RESUMO

This study was carried out to explore articular capsule repair in first artificial hip replacement (AHR) via anterolateral approach and its influence on postoperative dislocation. A total of 292 patients who received AHR via anterolateral approach and had the articular capsule repaired in People’s Hospital of Zhengzhou (Henan, China) from February 2008 to February 2014 were selected and divided into total hip replacement (THR) group (group A1) and artificial femoral head replacement (AFHR) group (group A2). Five hundred and five cases in the control group treated using the same approach but receiving no articular capsule repair were divided into THR group (group B1) and AFHR group (group B2). Condition of postoperative dislocation was compared between the two groups. All cases were followed up for 6 months to 5 years (average: 3.75 years); it was noted that the difference in average age, gender, disease constitution and follow-up time in the two groups was not significant (P>0.05). Moreover, groups A1 and B1 were found with 1 case of early hip joint dislocation (0.73%) and 13 cases of hip joint dislocation (5.24%) respectively post-operatively, and the comparison between the two groups was statistically significant (P less than 0.05). One case of hip joint dislocation (0.65%) was found in group A2 and 5 cases (1.95%) in group B2 in early post operation and the difference between two groups had no statistical significance (P>0.05). Neither the repair group nor the control group developed late-onset dislocation after the operation. Thus, we can state that articular capsule repair is feasible during the first AHR via anterolateral approach, which decreases the occurrence of early hip joint dislocation after operation and proves that repairing articular capsule during AFHR via anterolateral approach is unnecessary.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the expression of osteopontin (OPN), p2lras, and CD44V6 in breast cancer tissues, and to analyze the relationships between their expression and a patient's clinicopathological characteristics and five-year survival rate. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Streptavidin-peroxidase immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of OPN, p2lras, and CD44V6 in tissue samples from 96 breast cancer patients, and the multivariate Cox proportional hazards model (mCOX-PHM) was used to analyze the factors that affect prognosis. RESULTS: Among the 96 breast cancer patients studied, positive staining for OPN, CD44V6, and p21ras was observed in 54.2%, 58.3%, and 43.8% of samples, respectively. The expression of OPN and CD44V6 were positively correlated (r = 0.58), and the expression of OPN and p21ras were also positively correlated (r = 0.25). Coexpression OPN, CD44V6, and p21ras was negatively correlated with a patient's five-year survival rate (p < 0.05). Kaplan-Meier analysis indicated that a patient without OPN, CD44V6, or p21ras expression had an improved survival (p < 0.05). Results from the mCOX-PHM analysis indicated that CD44V6 expression, the degree of tumor differentiation, and lymph node metastasis were all independent factors that indicate prognosis. The combined detection of OPN, CD44V6, and p21ras could contribute to a more accurate assessment of the biological behavior of breast cancers, and could help to indicate the prognosis of breast cancer patients.

RESUMO

This study investigated the antitumour and chemosensitizing effects of celecoxib in the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer. A total of 90 patients were randomly divided into two groups: group CF was treated with a combination of celecoxib and the folinic acid-fluorouracil-oxaliplatin (FOLFOX4) regimen; and group F was treated with the FOLFOX4 regimen alone. Immunohisto chemical analysis of tumour tissues for cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) protein was performed. With regard to short-term efficacy, the response and disease control rates were significantly greater in group CF than group F. A log-rank test showed that the 3-year survival rate was significantly greater in group CF than group F. It was concluded that the addition of celecoxib to the FOLFOX4 regimen increased the short-term efficacy and the 3-year survival rate, and improved the quality of life of patients with advanced colorectal cancer. The antitumour and chemo sensitizing effects of celecoxib appeared to be independent of COX-2.

RESUMO

Eighty five neoplastic tissues of respiratory system in Chinese adult patients were searched for HPV by multiple PCR and in situ hybridization. In 13 of the specimens examined, HPV DNA was identified (15.3%), including 6 of 36 cases of pharyngolaryngeal neoplasms (16.6%) and 7 of 49 cases of lung squamous cell carcinomas (14.2%). Among the 13 cases tumor specimen, most of them were positive for HPV6/11 types and a few were double positive for HPV 6/11 and 16 types. Many tumor cells positive for HPV DNA on in situ hybridization were morphologically similar to those koilocytes in genital condylomas. HPV infection in 85 neoplasms was characterized by the fact that the same genotypes of HPV were detected in upper and lower respiratory tract and that the dominant virus types detected were HPV 6/11 types. The detection rate of HPV was a little higher in the upper than that in the lower respiratory tract and the HPV DNA positive tumors had similar histological appearance. The results suggest that HPV infection in the neoplasms of the upper and the lower airways is related to each other with similar mode of transmission.

RESUMO

Paraffin embedded archival tissue from 7/49 carcinomas of the lung which were positive for HPV DNA examined by multiple PCR were again searched for HPV DNA by in situ hybridization technique. Five cases were found positive for HPV DNA by in situ hybridization, of which three cases were positive for HPV 11, One was positive for HPV 16 and the other was positive for both HPV 11 and 16. The hybridization signal was mainly located in the nuclei of the koilocytotic tumor cells. These results suggest that HPV infection may have some role in the development of squamous cell carcinoma of the lung.

RESUMO

49 cases of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues of squamous cell carcinomas of the lung were searched for the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA by multiple polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Totally seven cases were positive for HPV DNA (14.2%), Among them four cases were positive for HPV6/11, one case was positive for HPV16 and two other cases were double positive for HPV6/11 and 16. These results suggest that HPV infection might play some role in development of squamous cell carcinomas of the lung.
