RESUMO

Intercultural competence has become one of the important goals of foreign language education. The potential and value of foreign language education on students' intercultural competence (IC) has been widely recognized by academia. Currently, most of the research on intercultural foreign language teachers in China focuses on university teachers, with little attention paid to primary school EFL teachers. However, the cultivation of IC is a staged and continuous process which cannot be achieved in one stroke. Therefore, it is necessary to include primary school EFL teachers in the study of IC cultivation. This paper presents data on Chinese primary school EFL teachers' beliefs about incorporating IC into foreign language teaching. Specifically, their understanding of culture, IC, and intercultural teaching practices are investigated through interviews. The interview transcriptions were analyzed using thematic analysis. The research found: 1. Chinese primary school EFL teachers generally hold an essentialist view of culture; 2. Teachers emphasize the attitudinal dimension of IC; however, they also exhibit a tendency to oversimplify IC or perceive it as a higher-order skill than language proficiency, hence deeming it unsuitable for cultivation at the primary school level; 3. Most cultural teaching practices are teacher-centered, focusing on background knowledge-style introduction. In general, teachers' intercultural teaching practices align with their cultural outlook. At last, the study explores two suggestions for promoting intercultural foreign language teaching: 1. Supporting primary school EFL teachers in updating their language and culture concepts system; 2. Encouraging teachers to reflect on their daily teaching practices as a major opportunity to promote the development of intercultural foreign language teaching.

RESUMO

Background: The exosome is a critical component of the intercellular communication., playing a vital role in regulating cell function. These small vesicles contain proteins, mRNAs, miRNAs, and lncRNAs, surrounded by lipid bilayer substances. Most cells in the human body can produce exosomes, released into various body fluids such as urine, blood, and cerebrospinal fluid. Bladder cancer is the most common tumor in the urinary system, with high recurrence and metastasis rates. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for improving patient outcomes. Methods: This study employed the PubMed search engine to retrieve publicly accessible data pertaining to urinary exosomes. Results: We summarize the origins and intricate biological characteristics of urinary exosomes, the introduction of research methodologies used in basic experiments to isolate and analyze these exosomes, the discussion of their applications and progress in the diagnosis and treatment of bladder cancer, and the exploration of the current limitations associated with using urinary exosomes as molecular biomarkers for diagnosing bladder cancer. Conclusion: Exosomes isolated from urine may be used as molecular biomarkers for early detection of bladder cancer.

RESUMO

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play crucial biological functions in various tumors, including bladder cancer (BCa). However, the roles and underlying molecular mechanisms of circRNAs in the malignant proliferation of BCa are yet unknown. CircKDM1A was observed to be downregulated in BCa tissues and cells. Knockdown of circKDM1A promoted the proliferation of BCa cells and bladder xenograft growth, while the overexpression of circKDM1A exerts the opposite effect. The dual-luciferase reporter assay revealed that circKDM1A was directly bound to miR-889-3p, acting as its molecular sponge to downregulate CPEB3. In turn, the CPEB3 was bound to the CPE signal in p53 mRNA 3'UTR to stabilize its expression. Thus, circKDM1A-mediated CPEB3 downregulation inhibits the stability of p53 mRNA and promotes BCa malignant progression. In conclusion, circKDM1A functions as a tumor suppressor in the malignant proliferation of BCa via the miR-889-3p/CPEB3/p53 axis. CircKDM1A may be a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target of BCa.

RESUMO

Hydrogel microcarrier-based drug delivery systems are of great value in the combination therapy of tumors. Current research directions concentrate on the development of more economic, convenient, and effective combined therapeutic platforms. Herein, we developed novel adhesive composite microparticles (MPPMD) with combined chemo- and photothermal therapy ability via microfluidic electrospray technology for local hepatocellular carcinoma treatment. These composite microparticles consisted of doxorubicin (DOX)-loaded and polydopamine-wrapped mesoporous silicon and alginate. Benefiting from such a strategy of hierarchical structure drug loading, DOX could be gradually released from the system, effectively avoiding the direct toxicity of chemotherapeutics to the body. Additionally, the designed microparticles could not only effectively treat tumors by releasing the chemotherapy drug DOX but also show excellent photothermal properties under the irradiation of near-infrared light, achieving combined chemo- and photothermal treatment effects. Based on these advantages, the MPPMD could remarkably eliminate tumor cells in vitro and enormously restrict tumor development in vivo. These results illustrate that such composite microparticles are ideal combination treatment platforms, possessing promising expectations for cancer therapy.

RESUMO

Drug delivery systems based on hydrogel microcarriers have shown enormous achievements in tumor treatment. Current research direction mainly concentrated on the improvement of the structure and function of the microcarriers to effectively deliver drugs for enhanced cancer treatment with decreased general toxicity. Herein, we put forward novel hierarchical mesoporous silicon nanoparticles (MSNs) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) composite microparticles (MPMSNs@DOX/FU) delivering doxorubicin (DOX) and 5-fluorouracil (FU) for effective tumor therapy with good safety. The DOX and FU could be efficiently loaded in the MSNs, which were further encapsulated into methacrylate BSA (BSAMA) microparticles by applying a microfluidic technique. When transported to the tumor area, DOX and FU will be persistently released from the MPMSNs@DOX/FU and kept locally to lessen general toxicity. Based on these advantages, MPMSNs@DOX/FU could observably kill liver cancer cells in vitro, and evidently suppress the tumor development of liver cancer nude mice model in vivo. These results suggest that such hierarchical hydrogel microparticles are perfect candidates for liver cancer treatment, holding promising expectations for impactful cancer therapy.

RESUMO

The journey of cancer development is a multifaceted and staged process. The array of treatments available for cancer varies significantly, dictated by the disease's type and stage. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), prevalent across various cancer types and stages, play a pivotal role in tumor genesis, progression, metastasis, and drug resistance. The strategy of concurrently targeting cancer cells and CAFs holds great promise in cancer therapy. In this review, we focus intently on CAFs, delving into their critical role in cancer's progression. We begin by exploring the origins, classification, and surface markers of CAFs. Following this, we emphasize the key cytokines and signaling pathways involved in the interplay between cancer cells and CAFs and their influence on the tumor immune microenvironment. Additionally, we examine current therapeutic approaches targeting CAFs. This article underscores the multifarious roles of CAFs within the tumor microenvironment and their potential applications in cancer treatment, highlighting their importance as key targets in overcoming drug resistance and enhancing the efficacy of tumor therapies.

RESUMO

Against the backdrop of globalization, interpreting, a translation communicative activity in a verbal way, plays an increasingly important role in international communications and exchanges. In response to this world pattern, the Chinese government attaches great importance to the interpreting industry. However, due to the national condition of uneven regional development, the English interpreting level across China is also unbalanced. Confronting this circumstance, previous research only stagnates at the level of recognizing the problem, but very few studies have attempted to solve the problem. Thus, the current study aims to figure out the regional interpreting level in mainland China by establishing and utilizing an innovative indicator system based on statistics and geography technologies. Based on the literature review and empirical questionnaire survey from different stakeholders, the study proposes an indicator system containing 3 first-level factors and 7 second-level factors to measure regional English interpreting levels. The weight of each indicator and scoring method is laid down based on factor analysis and interval marking. In addition, putting the innovative indicator system into practice, a total of 38 groups of regional data are collected to rank the regional interpreting level across China. Integrating with GIS and statistical techniques, the result visually shows that the English interpreting level across China is uneven at present: higher in the southern and eastern parts of China compared to that of northern and western China, which is unfriendly to sustainable development in the future. Facing this reality, a following-up analysis has been made for offering explanations of the results and suggestions for regional interpreting sustainable development.

RESUMO

In this study, we prepared and tested a carbon-modified, Fe-loaded bismuth oxychloride (Fe-BiOCl/CS) photocatalyst for photocatalytic degradation of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). Structural analyses revealed a (110) facet-dominated sheet-type BiOCl crystal structure with uniformly distributed Fe and confirmed carbon modification of the photocatalyst. The presence of d-glucose facilitated the growth control of BiOCl particles and enhanced the adsorption of PFOS via added hydrophobic interaction. Adsorption kinetic and equilibrium tests showed rapid uptake rates of PFOS and high adsorption capacity with a Langmuir Qmax of 1.51 mg/g. When used for directly treating PFOS in solution, Fe-BiOCl/CS was able to mineralize or defluorinate 83% of PFOS (C0 = 100 µgL-1) under UV (254 nm, intensity = 21 mW cm-2) in 4 h; and when tested in a two-step mode, i.e., batch adsorption and subsequent photodegradation, Fe-BiOCl/CS mineralized 65.34% of PFOS that was pre-concentrated in the solid phase under otherwise identical conditions; while the total degradation percentages of PFOS were 83.48% and 80.50%, respectively, for the two experimental modes. The photoactivated electrons and/or hydrated electrons and superoxide radicals primarily initiated the desulfonation of PFOS followed by decarboxylation and defluorination, through a stepwise chain-subsiding mechanism. The elevated photocatalytic activity can be attributed to the effective separation of e-/h+ pairs facilitated by the (110) interlayer electrostatic field, Fe doping, and the presence of oxygen vacancies. This work reveals the potential of carbon-modified and Fe-co-catalyzed BiOCl for concentrating and degrading PFOS and possibly other persistent organic pollutants.

RESUMO

Osteoporosis (OP) is a common disease among older adults. The promotion of osteoblast differentiation plays a crucial role in alleviating OP symptoms. Extracellular matrix protein 1 (ECM1) has been reported to be closely associated with osteogenic differentiation. In this study, we constructed U2OS cell lines with ECM1 knockdown and ECM1a overexpression based on knockdown, and identified the target miRNA (miR-1260b) by sequencing. Overexpression of miR-1260b promoted the osteogenic differentiation of U2OS and MG63 cells, as demonstrated by increased alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, matrix mineralization, and Runt-Related Transcription Factor 2 (RUNX2), Osteopontin (OPN), Collagen I (COL1A1), and Osteocalcin (OCN) protein expressions, whereas low expression of miR-1260b had the opposite effect. In addition, miR-1260b expression was decreased in OP patients than in non-OP patients. Next, we predicted the target gene of miRNA through TargetScan and miRDB and found that miR-1260b negatively regulated GDP dissociation inhibitor 1 (GDI1) by directly binding to its 3'-untranslated region. Subsequent experiments revealed that GDI1 overexpression decreased ALP activity and calcium deposit, reduced RUNX2, OPN, COL1A1, and OCN expression levels, and reversed the effects of miR-1260b on osteogenic differentiation. In conclusion, ECM1-related miR-1260b promotes osteogenic differentiation by targeting GDI1 in U2OS and MG63 cells. Thus, this study has significant implication for osteoporosis treatment.

RESUMO

Sequencing of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is a minimally invasive approach to reveal the genomic alterations of cancer; however, its comparison with sequencing of tumor tissue has not been well documented in real-world patients with aggressive-variant prostate cancer (AVPC). Concordance of genomic alterations was assessed between progressive tumor tissue and matched ctDNA by next-generation sequencing for 63 patients with AVPC. Associations of genomic alterations with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were investigated using Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses. A total of 161 somatic mutations (SMs) and 84 copy-number variants (CNVs) were detected in tumors, of which 97 were also found in ctDNA, giving concordance of 39.6% (97/245) across all SMs and CNVs, 49.7% for SMs only and 20.2% for CNVs only. Across all patients with AVPC, chemotherapy was associated with significantly longer median PFS (6 vs. 0.75 months, P = 0.001) and OS (11 vs. 8 months, P < 0.001) than next-generation hormonal therapy (NHT). Among types of chemotherapy, additional platinum-based chemotherapy was associated with significantly longer median PFS and OS than docetaxel only in patients with TP53, RB1, or PTEN alterations, and in those with ctDNA% ≥ 13.5%. The concordance analysis first provides evidence for combining the sequencing of ctDNA and tumor tissue in real-world patients with AVPC. Chemotherapy is associated with significantly better survival than NHT, and the benefit of additional platinum-based chemotherapy may depend on the presence of alterations in TP53, RB1, or PTEN and on a sufficiently high proportion of ctDNA in patients with AVPC. SIGNIFICANCE: AVPC is a highly malignant and heterogeneous disease. Sequencing of ctDNA is a minimally invasive approach to reveal genomic alterations. On the basis of the current real-world study, we found ctDNA does not fully recapitulate the landscape of genomic alterations from progressive tumor tissue in AVPC. We also revealed AVPC can benefit from chemotherapy, especially platinum-based regimens. TP53/RB1/PTEN alterations in ctDNA or tumor tissue could be biomarkers for platinum-based chemotherapy in this setting.

RESUMO

A photochemical system combining iron (hydr)oxides and oxalate (Ox) shows application prospects in wastewater treatment due to the abundance of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Nevertheless, it is a challenge to the investigate photochemical activity of iron (hydr)oxides/Ox systems with varying structural properties. Herein, the photochemical behaviors of Ox on goethite (Gt) surface from the view of structural dependent activity, containment degradation, and ROS generation were explored in detail. Results confirmed that bidentate mononuclear was formed on Gt surface after complexing Ox. Combined with density functional theory calculation and pH time evolution during aniline degradation, the photochemical activity of the Gt/Ox system fell in between that of ferrihydrite/Ox and hematite/Ox systems. After irradiating 120 min visible light, 96.5% aniline was degraded by 1.0 mM Ox and 0.2 g/L Gt. The amount of •OH in vis/Gt/Ox system could be up to 309.3 µM and its generation was closely associated with Fe(II) while slightly affected by the generated H2O2. Moreover, as revealed by high-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometric and Ecological Structure Activity Relationships software, the toxicity of the intermediates of aniline degradation in the vis/Gt/Ox system towards fish and green algae increased first but then declined accompanied by the generation of non-toxic ring-opening products at the end of reaction. According to the findings in the presented study, it could be concluded that vis/Gt/Ox is a promising approach to wiping out aniline wastewater.

RESUMO

Background: Upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) is a rare malignancy. The management of metastatic or unresectable UTUC is mainly based on evidence extrapolated from histologically homologous bladder cancer, including platinum-based chemotherapy and immune checkpoint inhibitor alone, whereas UTUC exhibits more invasiveness, worse prognosis, and comparatively inferior response to treatments. First-line immunochemotherapy regimens have been attempted in clinical trials for unselected naïve-treated cases, but their efficacies relative to standard chemo- or immuno-monotherapy still remain controversial. Here, we present a case of highly aggressive UTUC for whom comprehensive genetic and phenotypic signatures predicted sustained complete response to first-line immunochemotherapy. Case presentation: A 50-year-old man received retroperitoneoscopic nephroureterectomy and regional lymphadenectomy for high-risk locally advanced UTUC. Postoperatively, he developed rapid progression of residual unresectable metastatic lymph nodes. Pathologic analysis and next-generation sequencing classified the tumor as highly aggressive TP53/MDM2-mutated subtype with features more than expression of programmed death ligand-1, including ERBB2 mutations, luminal immune-infiltrated contexture, and non-mesenchymal state. Immunochemotherapy combining gemcitabine, carboplatin, and off-label programmed death-1 inhibitor sintilimab was initiated, and sintilimab monotherapy was maintained up to 1 year. Retroperitoneal lymphatic metastases gradually regressed to complete response. Blood-based analyses were performed longitudinally for serum tumor markers, inflammatory parameters, peripheral immune cells, and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) profiling. The ctDNA kinetics of tumor mutation burden and mean variant allele frequency accurately predicted postoperative progression and sustained response to the following immunochemotherapy, which were mirrored by dynamic changes in abundances of ctDNA mutations from UTUC-typical variant genes. The patient remained free of recurrence or metastasis as of this publishing, over 2 years after the initial surgical treatment. Conclusion: Immunochemotherapy may be a promising first-line option for advanced or metastatic UTUC selected with specific genomic or phenotypic signatures, and blood-based analyses incorporating ctDNA profiling provide precise longitudinal monitoring.

RESUMO

Follicular lymphoma (FL) is the most common indolent lymphoma originating from germinal center B cells. FL represents a clinically and biologically heterogeneous disease. Most patients have favorable outcomes, but a subset of patients experiences early progression or transformation and has a poor prognosis. Abnormalities in FL cells and tumor microenvironment have been revealed using multi-omics techniques, including genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic and proteomic analysis. Recurrent somatic gene aberrations mainly involve epigenetic modifiers, transcription factors, oncogenic pathways and microenvironment modulators. Single-cell transcriptomic analysis show marked inter- and intra-patient FL subclone heterogeneity. In addition, a comprehensive profile of microenvironmental components is provided, unveiling the crosstalk between tumor and microenvironment that induce FL progression and facilitate immune escape. Together, these studies provide insights into the mechanisms and biomarkers of high-risk FL populations, as well as the potential targeted and immunotherapy options. Future research should focus on integrating multi-omics aberrations to optimize therapeutic strategies in FL.

RESUMO

Cultivating intercultural competence is a long-term and staged process requiring the efforts of all counterparts in the education field from primary school up to university. Currently, most research on intercultural education in China focuses on the tertiary education context, and little attention has been paid to elementary education as well as primary school EFL teachers. Against this background, this study intends to investigate Chinese primary school EFL teachers' preparedness for intercultural foreign language teaching (IFLT), its influencing factors, and the support teachers need to implement IFLT. A convergent mixed method was used in this study. Data was collected through questionnaires and interviews, SPSS and the thematic analysis method were used to analyze the data. Via both quantitative and qualitative methods, this empirical study found that: 1. Primary school EFL teachers are not well prepared for IFLT; 2. Textbooks, the current evaluation system, teachers' lack of literacy in intercultural competence, insufficient teacher training on intercultural competence, and teachers' lack of time and energy are five major factors that constrain the implementation of IFLT; 3. Support from school administration, the construction of intercultural-related materials and resources, and practice-oriented teacher training are the three main support teachers need. Based on these findings, the role of textbooks, experience abroad and general materials on culture in promoting IFLT were discussed. At last, implications and future research directions were proposed.

RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented a unique opportunity for the advancement of online education, as billions of students from 190 countries have been compelled to take classes remotely. The degree of satisfaction is considered one of the major factors in determining the quality of online educational programs. As a result, many empirical studies have been conducted on the level of satisfaction with online education over the last two decades. However, few studies have synthesized previous findings from similar research questions. Therefore, to reinforce statistical power, the study aimed to conduct a meta-analysis to examine satisfaction with online education among students, faculty, and parents before and after the COVID-19 outbreak. A total of 52 studies in English were screened from six academic electronic databases, yielding 57 effect sizes using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software. The results showed that the prevalence of satisfaction with online education among students, faculty, and parents before and after the COVID-19 outbreak was 59.5, 75.3, and 70.7%, respectively, with a significant difference between the satisfaction rates of students and those of their faculty and parents. Besides, we conducted a moderator analysis that found that (1) a significantly higher number of students in the pre-pandemic era in countries with developed digital infrastructure and emergency online learning environments were less satisfied with online education than their counterparts in the post-pandemic era, in countries with developing digital infrastructure, and in non-emergency online learning environments. Additionally, a significantly higher proportion of adult education learners reported being satisfied with online education compared to K-12 and university students. (2) The faculty in the non-emergency situation reported almost double the satisfaction rate of their counterparts in the emergency circumstance. With fewer satisfied remote learning students, efforts could be made by providing well-designed online lessons via faculty and strengthening digital infrastructure via governments to improve student satisfaction.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: FH-deficient renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a rare and exceptionally aggressive RCC subtype. There is currently limited understanding of the molecular alterations, pathogenesis, survival outcomes, and systemic therapy efficacy for this cancer. OBJECTIVE: To perform a retrospective multicenter analysis of molecular profiling and clinical outcomes for patients with FH-deficient RCC, with an emphasis on treatment response to first-line immune checkpoint inhibitor plus tyrosine kinase inhibitor (ICI/TKI) versus bevacizumab plus erlotinib (Bev/Erlo) combination therapy in patients with advanced disease. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: The study included 77 cases of FH-deficient RCC from 15 centers across China. OUTCOME MEASUREMENTS AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: Clinical characteristics, molecular correlates, 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography imaging, and treatment outcomes were analyzed. RESULTS AND LIMITATIONS: A total of 77 patients were identified, including 70 cases with a germline FH alteration (hereditary leiomyomatosis RCC syndrome [HLRCC]-associated RCC) and seven patients with somatic FH loss. Recurrent pathogenic alterations were found in NF2 (six/57, 11%), CDH1 (six/57, 11%), PIK3CA (six/57, 11%), and TP53 (five/57, 8.8%). Sixty-seven patients were evaluable for response to first-line systemic therapy with Bev/Erlo (n = 12), TKI monotherapy (n = 29), or ICI/TKI (n = 26). ICI/TKI combination therapy was associated with more favorable overall survival on systemic treatment (hazard ratio [HR] 0.19, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.04-0.90) and progression-free survival on first-line therapy (HR 0.22, 95% CI 0.07-0.71) compared to Bev/Erlo combination therapy. The main limitation is the retrospective study design. CONCLUSIONS: We described the genomic characteristics of FH-deficient RCC in an Asian population and observed a favorable response to ICI/TKI combinational therapy among patients with advanced disease. PATIENT SUMMARY: This real-world study provides evidence supporting the antitumour activity of combining molecular targeted therapy plus immunotherapy for kidney cancer deficient in fumarate hydratase. Further studies are needed to investigate the efficacy of this combination strategy in this rare cancer.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Scabies is a skin infection transmitted by close person-to-person contact. Crusted scabies is a more severe type which is more contagious. Delayed diagnosis of scabies could lead to an outbreak. METHODS: The outbreak occurred at a 435-bed academic medical center with 76 inpatient rehabilitation beds. The index patient was incarcerated and admitted to our hospital in February 2022. The patient developed crusted scabies after steroids treatment. RESULTS: The patient was treated with oral ivermectin (200 mcg/kg, maximum dose 15 mg) and topical permethrin 5%. All units were followed for 6 weeks since diagnosis of the index patient. A total of 46 healthcare workers (20 nurses and 26 physical therapists) were exposed. Twenty-nine presented symptoms and were treated with ivermectin and permethrin or only ivermectin. No physicians, other patients, or prison guards were affected. There was no secondary household transmission of those exposed healthcare workers. CONCLUSIONS: Scabies is highly contagious in high-risk patients. Early diagnosis and effective infection control are of vital importance.

RESUMO

Background: Radical cystectomy and urinary diversion (UD) are gold standards for non-metastatic muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Orthotopic neobladder (or Studer), ileal conduit (or Bricker) and cutaneous ureterostomy (CU) are mainstream UD types. Little is known about urinary microbiological changes after UD. Methods: In this study, urine samples were collected from healthy volunteers and patients with bladder cancer who had received aforementioned UD procedures. Microbiomes of samples were analyzed using 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing, and microbial diversities, distributions and functions were investigated and compared across groups. Results: Highest urine microbial richness and diversity were observed in healthy controls, followed by Studer patients, especially those without hydronephrosis or residual urine, α-diversity indices of whom were remarkably higher than those of Bricker and CU groups. Studer UD type was the only independent factor favoring urine microbial diversity. The urine microflora structure of the Studer group was most similar to that of the healthy individuals while that of the CU group was least similar. Studer patients and healthy volunteers shared many similar urine microbial functions, while Bricker and CU groups exhibited opposite characteristics. Conclusion: Our study first presented urinary microbial landscapes of UD patients and demonstrated the microbiological advantage of orthotopic neobladder. Microbiota might be a potential tool for optimization of UD management.

RESUMO

Semidwarfing genes have greatly increased wheat yields globally, yet the widely used gibberellin (GA)-insensitive genes Rht-B1b and Rht-D1b have disadvantages for seedling emergence. Use of the GA-sensitive semidwarfing gene Rht13 avoids this pleiotropic effect. Here, we show that Rht13 encodes a nucleotide-binding site/leucine-rich repeat (NB-LRR) gene. A point mutation in the semidwarf Rht-B13b allele autoactivates the NB-LRR gene and causes a height reduction comparable with Rht-B1b and Rht-D1b in diverse genetic backgrounds. The autoactive Rht-B13b allele leads to transcriptional up-regulation of pathogenesis-related genes including class III peroxidases associated with cell wall remodeling. Rht13 represents a new class of reduced height (Rht) gene, unlike other Rht genes, which encode components of the GA signaling or metabolic pathways. This discovery opens avenues to use autoactive NB-LRR genes as semidwarfing genes in a range of crop species, and to apply Rht13 in wheat breeding programs using a perfect genetic marker.

RESUMO

Porous magnesium oxysulfate (MOS) cement pastes were successfully fabricated by injecting presaturated bentonite into modified MOS cement paste. Their pore structure and hardened performance were investigated. The results indicated that the 20MgO-MgSO4·7H2O-18H2O system modified by citric acid (C6H8O7⋅H2O) and ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid was suitable to fabricate porous MOS cement paste. Bentonite slurry led to significant refinement of pores, generating nanosized pores in MOS cement pastes. When volume replacement of bentonite slurry in MOS cement paste rose between 0 and 60%, pore size corresponding to the peak in the pore size distribution curve of MOS cement-based materials decreased from 180.0 nm to 22.8 nm and then increased to 163.0 nm, and the porosity linearly increased from 21.1% to 58.1%. These small pores caused the successful preparation of porous MOS cement paste with dry bulk density of 760-1650 kg/m3, compressive strength of 7.8-69.8 MPa, and thermal conductivity of 0.25-0.85 W/(m·K).
