RESUMO

The effectiveness of tumor treatment using reactive oxygen species as the primary therapeutic medium is hindered by limitations of tumor microenvironment (TME), such as intrinsic hypoxia in photodynamic therapy (PDT) and overproduction of reducing glutathione (GSH) in chemodynamic therapy (CDT). Herein, we fabricate metal-polyphenol self-assembled nanodots (Fe@BDP NDs) guided by second near-infrared (NIR-II) fluorescence imaging. The Fe@BDP NDs are designed for synergistic combination of type-I PDT and CDT-amplified ferroptosis. In a mildly acidic TME, Fe@BDP NDs demonstrate great Fenton activity, leading to the generation of highly toxic hydroxyl radicals from overproduced hydrogen peroxide in tumor cells. Furthermore, Fe@BDP NDs show favorable efficacy in type-I PDT, even in tolerating tumor hypoxia, generating active superoxide anion upon exposure to 808 nm laser irradiation. The significant efficiency in reactive oxygen species (ROS) products results in the oxidation of sensitive polyunsaturated fatty acids, accelerating lethal lipid peroxidation (LPO) bioprocess. Additionally, Fe@BDP NDs illustrate an outstanding capability for GSH depletion, causing the inactivation of glutathione peroxidase 4 and further promoting lethal LPO. The synergistic type-I photodynamic and chemodynamic cytotoxicity effectively trigger irreversible ferroptosis by disrupting the intracellular redox homeostasis. Moreover, Fe@BDP NDs demonstrate charming NIR-II fluorescence imaging capability and effectively accumulated at the tumor site, visualizing the distribution of Fe@BDP NDs and the treatment process. The chemo/photo-dynamic-amplified ferroptotic efficacy of Fe@BDP NDs was evidenced both in vitro and in vivo. This study presents a compelling approach to intensify ferroptosis via visualized CDT and PDT. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: In this study, we detailed the fabrication of metal-polyphenol self-assembled nanodots (Fe@BDP NDs) guided by second near-infrared (NIR-II) fluorescence imaging, aiming to intensify ferroptosis via the synergistic combination of type-I PDT and CDT. In a mildly acidic TME, Fe@BDP NDs exhibited significant Fenton activity, resulting in the generation of highly toxic •OH from overproduced H2O2 in tumor cells. Fe@BDP NDs possessed a remarkable capability for GSH depletion, resulting in the inactivation of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) and further accelerating lethal LPO. This study presented a compelling approach to intensify ferroptosis via visualized CDT and PDT.

RESUMO

Background: We aimed to explore the differences in plasma biomarker levels between patients with familial cerebral cavernous malformations (FCCM) and their healthy first-degree relatives (FDRs) and between FCCM patients with and without severe chronic disease aggressiveness (CDA). Methods: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning and genetic testing was performed in patients with multiple CCMs and their FDRs. Sixty-seven plasma biomarkers were tested using a customised multiplex bead immunoassay kit. Univariate and multivariate unconditional logistic regression analyses were conducted to determine the associations between plasma factors and the risk of developing FCCM and severe CDA. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were generated for each independent risk factor. Results: Plasma factors of 37 patients with FCCM and 37 FDRs were examined. Low CD31 (P < 0.001) and BDNF levels (P = 0.013) were independent risk factors for FCCM. The best model was achieved by combining the results of CD31 and BDNF (AUC = 0.845, sensitivity 0.838, specificity 0.784, cutoff score - 4.295) to distinguish patients with FCCM from healthy FDRs. Low serpin E1/PAI-1 (P = 0.011) and high ROBO4 levels (P = 0.013) were independent risk factors for severe CDA in patients with FCCM. The best model was achieved by combining the results of E1/PAI-1 and ROBO4 levels (AUC = 0.913, sensitivity 1.000, specificity 0.760, cutoff score - 0.525) to identify patients with FCCM and severe CDA. Conclusions: The plasma concentrations of CD31 and BDNF seem to be lower in patients with FCCM than in their healthy FDRs. Low serpin E1/PAI-1 and high ROBO4 concentrations may be correlated with high lesion burden and risk of recurrent bleeding.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Kinesiophobia after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) may lead to decreased compliance with rehabilitation exercises. Effective interventions are essential to overcome kinesiophobia after PCI. The aim of this trial is to investigate the clinical effects of an intervention based on the fear-avoidance model (FAM) on kinesiophobia in post-PCI patients. METHODS: Eighty participants will be recruited in the Department of Cardiology in Hebei Provincial People's Hospital. And they will be randomly allocated to the test group and undergo a 5-day step-to-step intervention. The primary outcome will be the scores of a scale on kinesiophobia. Secondary outcome measures included self-efficacy for exercise, psychogenic anxiety, and the occurrence of cardiovascular adverse events. Primary and secondary outcome data will be collected at baseline (t0), on the day of discharge (t1), and one month after discharge (t2). DISCUSSION: The effectiveness of an intervention based on the FAM to increase exercise self-efficacy and decrease kinesiophobia in post-PCI patients will be demonstrated. The findings of this study will facilitate post-PCI patients to participate in cardiac rehabilitation. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ChiCTR2200065649 Effect of an intervention based on the fear-avoidance model on exercise fear in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention. RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Burnout is common among medical personnel in China and may be related to excessive and persistent work-related stressors by different specialties. The aims of this study were to assess the prevalence of burnout, work overload and work-life imbalance according to different specialties and to explore the effect of specialty, work overload and work-life imbalance on burnout among medical personnel. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study. SETTING: This study was conducted in 1 tertiary general public hospital, 2 secondary general hospitals and 10 community health service stations in Liaoning, China. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 3299 medical personnel participated in the study. METHODS: We used the 15-item Chinese version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory General Survey (MBI-GS) to measure burnout. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to explore the association between medical specialty, work overload, work-life imbalance and burnout. RESULTS: 3299 medical personnel were included in this study. The prevalence of burnout, severe burnout, work overload and work-life imbalance were 88.7%, 13.6%, 23.4% and 23.2%, respectively. Compared with medical personnel in internal medicine, working in obstetrics and gynaecology (OR=0.61, 95% CI 0.38, 0.99) and management (OR=0.45, 95% CI 0.28, 0.72) was significantly associated with burnout, and working in ICU (Intensive Care Unit)(OR=2.48, 95% CI 1.07, 5.73), surgery (OR=1.66, 95% CI 1.18, 2.35) and paediatrics (OR=0.24, 95% CI 0.07, 0.81) was significantly associated with severe burnout. Work overload and work-life imbalance were associated with higher ORs for burnout (OR=1.64, 95% CI 1.16, 2.32; OR=2.79, 95% CI 1.84, 4.24) and severe burnout (OR=4.33, 95% CI 3.43, 5.46; OR=3.35, 95% CI 2.64, 4.24). CONCLUSIONS: Burnout, work overload and work-life imbalance were prevalent among Chinese medical personnel but varied considerably by clinical specialty. Burnout may be reduced by decreasing work overload and promoting work-life balance across different specialties.

RESUMO

Background: No studies in China have assessed the guideline-concordance level of the first-course of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) diagnosis and treatment and its relationship with survival. This study comprehensively assesses the current status of guideline-concordant diagnosis (GCD) and guideline-concordant treatment (GCT) of NSCLC in China and explores its impact on survival. Methods: First course diagnosis and treatment data for NSCLC patients in Liaoning, China in 2017 and 2018 (n=1828) were used and classified by whether they underwent GCD and GCT according to Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) guidelines. Pearson's chi-squared test was used to determine unadjusted associations between categorical variables of interest. Logistic models were constructed to identify variables associated with GCD and GCT. Kaplan-Meier analysis and log-rank tests were used to estimate and compare 3-year survival rates. Multivariate Cox proportional risk models were constructed to assess the risk of cancer mortality associated with guideline-concordant diagnosis and treatment. Results: Of the 1828 patients we studied, 48.1% underwent GCD, and 70.1% underwent GCT. The proportions of patients who underwent both GCD and GCT, GCD alone, GCT alone and neither GCD nor GCT were 36.7%, 11.4%, 33.5% and 18.4%, respectively. Patients in advanced stage and non-oncology hospitals were significantly less likely to undergo GCD and GCT. Compared with those who underwent neither GCD nor GCT, patients who underwent both GCD and GCT, GCD alone and GCT alone had 35.2%, 26.7% and 35.7% higher 3-year survival rates; the adjusted lung cancer mortality risk significantly decreased by 29% (adjusted hazard ratio[aHR], 0.71; 95% CI, 0.53-0.95), 29% (aHR, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.50-1.00) and 32% (aHR, 0.68; 95% CI, 0.51-0.90). Conclusion: The 3-year risk of death is expected to be reduced by 29% if patients with NSCLC undergo both GCD and GCT. There is a need to establish an oncology diagnosis and treatment data management platform in China to monitor, evaluate, and promote the use of clinical practice guidelines in healthcare settings.

RESUMO

Environmental accumulation of nano- and microplastics pose serious risks to human health. Polystyrene (PS) is a polymer commonly used in the production of plastics. However, PS can adsorb cadmium (Cd), thereby influencing bioavailability and toxicity in vivo. Moreover, PS and Cd can accumulate in the mammalian kidney. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to assess the effects of combined exposure to PS and Cd in the kidney. Kidney damage was evaluated in male mice gavaged with PS (diameter, 100 nm and/or 1 µm) and Cd for 25 days. The results showed that PS at 100 nm caused more severe oxidative damage and cell apoptosis than PS at 1 µm. Combined exposure to PS at both 100 nm and 1 µm caused more severe kidney damage than the single administration groups. The extent of kidney toxicity caused by Cd differed with the combination of PS particles at 100 nm vs. 1 µm. The degree of damage to kidney function, pathological changes, and cell apoptosis induced by Cd+100 nm PS+1µm PS was the most severe. An increase in the Bax/Bcl2 ratio and overexpression of p53 and caspase-3 revealed that renal cell apoptosis might be induced via the mitochondrial pathway. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that the size of PS particles dictates the combined effects of PS and Cd in kidney tissues. Kidney damage caused by the combination of different sizes of PS particle and Cd is more complicated under actual environmental conditions.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the prevalence of familial cerebral cavernous malformations (FCCMs) in first-degree relatives (FDRs) using familial screening, to describe the distribution of initial symptoms, lesion count on cranial MRI and pathogenic gene in patients. METHODS: Patients with multiple CCMs who enrolled from the Treatments and Outcomes of Untreated Cerebral Cavernous Malformations in China database were considered as probands and FDRs were recruited. Cranial MRI was performed to screen the CCMs lesions, and whole-exome sequencing was performed to identify CCM mutations. MRI and genetic screening were combined to diagnose FCCM in FDRs, and the results were presented as prevalence and 95% CIs. The Kaplan-Meier (KM) method was used to calculate the cumulative incidence of FCCM. RESULTS: 33 (76.74%) of the 43 families (110 FDRs) were identified as FCCM (85 FDRs). Receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed three lesions on T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) were the strong indicator for distinguishing probands with FCCM (sensitivity, 87.10%; specificity, 87.50%). Of the 85 FDRs, 31 were diagnosed with FCCM, resulting in a prevalence of 36.5% (26.2%-46.7%). In families with FCCMs, the mutation rates for CCM1, CCM2 and CCM3 were 45.45%, 21.21% and 9.09%, respectively. Furthermore, 53.13% of patients were asymptomatic, 17.19% were intracranial haemorrhage and 9.38% were epilepsy. The mean age of symptom onset analysed by KM was 46.67 (40.56-52.78) years. CONCLUSION: Based on MRI and genetic analysis, the prevalence of CCMs in the FDRs of families with FCCMs in China was 36.5%. Genetic counselling and MRI screening are recommended for FDRs in patients with more than three CCM lesions on T2WI.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Few studies have assessed the burden of mental disorders among children and adolescents considering the impact of co-morbidities and suicide on disability adjusted life years (DALYs). METHODS: This was a multicenter cross-sectional study. Our survey data in Liaoning Province (LN) were used to estimate the burden of six mental disorders, supplemented with data from other investigative studies conducted in China to assess four other disorders. DALYs were derived from the sum of years lived with a disability (YLDs) adjusted for co-morbidities, and the years of life lost (YLLs) adjusted for suicide. The changes in DALYs, YLDs, and YLLs were compared with and without adjustment for co-morbidities and suicide. RESULTS: The DALYs rate of mental disorders among children and adolescents in LN decreased from 1579.6/105 to 1391.4/105, after adjusting for both co-morbidities and suicide (-11.9%). The DALYs rate for major depression, anxiety disorder, and conduct disorder (-80.8/105, -75.0/105 and -30.2/105, respectively) were the top three contributors to the DALYs reduction (-188.2/105). The YLDs decreased from 72724.8 to 62478.5 after co-morbidity adjustment (-17.8%), mainly due to the reduction by major depression (-35.3%) and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder [ADHD] (-34.2%). The YLLs increased from 130 to 1697.8 after adjusting for suicides (+ 56.9% of all suicide YLLs), mainly due to the contribution of major depression (+ 32.4%) and anxiety disorder (+ 10.4%). Compared to GBD 2010, the estimated DALY rate for mental disorders in LN was to be about 80%, with the proportion of DALYs and DALY rates explained by major depressive disorder accounted for only approximately one-third (14.6% vs. 41.9% and 202.6 vs. 759.9, respectively). But the proportion and absolute level of DALY rates explained by anxiety disorders were approximately 2-fold higher (39.7% vs. 19.6% and 552.2 vs. 323.3, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The DALYs of mental disorders among Chinese children and adolescents were approximately 80% of the global level, with anxiety disorders imposing about 2 times the global level. Co-morbidity and suicide must be adjusted when calculating DALYs.

RESUMO

Cuproptosis is a newly discovered form of programmed cell death significantly depending on the transport efficacy of copper (Cu) ionophores. However, existing Cu ionophores, primarily small molecules with a short blood half-life, face challenges in transporting enough amounts of Cu ions into tumor cells. This work describes the construction of carrier-free nanoparticles (Ce6@Cu NPs), which self-assembled by the coordination of Cu2+ with the sonosensitizer chlorin e6 (Ce6), facilitating sonodynamic-triggered combination of cuproptosis and ferroptosis. Ce6@Cu NPs internalized by U87MG cells induce a sonodynamic effect and glutathione (GSH) depletion capability, promoting lipid peroxidation and eventually inducing ferroptosis. Furthermore, Cu+ concentration in tumor cells significantly increases as Cu2+ reacts with reductive GSH, resulting in the downregulation of ferredoxin-1 and lipoyl synthase. This induces the oligomerization of lipoylated dihydrolipoamide S-acetyltransferase, causing proteotoxic stress and irreversible cuproptosis. Ce6@Cu NPs possess a satisfactory ability to penetrate the blood-brain barrier, resulting in significant accumulation in orthotopic U87MG-Luc glioblastoma. The sonodynamic-triggered combination of ferroptosis and cuproptosis in the tumor by Ce6@Cu NPs is evidenced both in vitro and in vivo with minimal side effects. This work represents a promising tumor therapeutic strategy combining ferroptosis and cuproptosis, potentially inspiring further research in developing logical and effective cancer therapies based on cuproptosis.

RESUMO

Evidence for the influence of chronic inflammation induced by microbial dysbiosis on aberrant DNA methylation supports a plausible connexion between disordered microbiota and precancerous lesions of gastric cancer (PLGC). Here, a comprehensive study including multi-omics data was performed to estimate the relationships amongst the gastric microbiome, inflammatory proteins and DNA methylation alterations and their roles in PLGC development. The results demonstrated that gastric dysbacteriosis increased the risk of PLGC and DNA methylation alterations in related tumour suppressor genes. Seven inflammatory biomarkers were identified for antrum and corpus tissues, respectively, amongst which the expression levels of several biomarkers were significantly correlated with the microbial dysbiosis index (MDI) and methylation status of specific tumour suppressor genes. Notably, mediation analysis revealed that microbial dysbiosis partially contributed to DNA methylation changes in the stomach via the inflammatory cytokines C-C motif chemokine 20 (CCL20) and tumour necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 9 (TNFRSF9). Overall, these results may provide new insights into the mechanisms that might link the gastric microbiome to PLGC. RESUMO

Microplastics (MPs) are ubiquitous in the environment. However, it is unclear whether MPs are present in mammalian lungs through inhalation, and if so, could be possibly found in fetal tissues. In this study, we aim to determine the presence and characteristics of particles in domestic and fetal pig lung tissue in the natural environment. Specimens from the lungs of domestic pigs (n = 10) and fetal pigs that already died in matrix during vaginal birth from the non-contaminated area (n = 10) were obtained from farmers' nearby sludge treatment plant. These specimens were compressed between two glass microscope slides, which were examined under polarized light microscopy. In addition, Agilent 8700 LDIR Chemical imaging system (LDIR) was used to determine the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of MPs. According to the polarized light microscope survey of domestic pig lungs, we observed an average of 12 particles/g, which was more than the 6 particles/g observed in fetal pig lungs, which ranged in size from 115.14 µm to 1370.43 µm. All the observed MP particles were fiber in shape. LDIR indicated an average of 180 particles/g of domestic pig lungs, ranging in size from 20.34 µm to 916.36 µm, which was twice as many MPs observed in fetal pig lungs. Furthermore, the compositions of MPs were different between them. LDIR indicated that polyamide (PA) was the most common polymer identified in domestic pig lungs (46.11%), while polycarbonate (PC) was the most common polymer in fetal pig lungs (32.99%). These findings confirmed the presence of MPs in the lung tissue of both domestic and fetal pigs in the natural environment, but the main characteristics differed. This fact indicated the increasing risk of MPs to human respiratory tract is increasing. Further research should be conducted to entirely estimate the specific exposure level on humans and offspring.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to determine the presence of microplastics (MPs) in the upper respiratory tract of indoor and outdoor workers, to assess the type and the extent of contamination. Sputum and nasal lavage fluid were collected, and plastic particles were quantitatively analyzed by polarizing microscopy and a laser direct infrared chemical imaging system. The polarized light microscopy results showed that suspicious MPs were found in the nasal lavage and sputum of both couriers and office staff, and the abundance of MPs in the nasal lavage of office staff was significantly higher than in couriers (P < 0.0001). The chemical imaging results showed that polycarbonate (24.2%) and polyvinylchloride (PVC) (23.0%) were the predominant plastic materials in the sputum of couriers, while polyamide (PA) (25.3%) and polyethylene (22.9%) were dominant in the nasal lavage fluid. The sputum and nasal lavage fluid of office staff were both dominated by PVC (39.1% and 41.1%, respectively) and PA (24.8% and 31.6%, respectively). Therefore, this study revealed that microplastic pollution was found in the respiratory tract of both indoor and outdoor workers, but the distribution of MP particles differed between the two populations.

RESUMO

Nano- and micro-plastic (NMP) pollution has emerged as a global issue; however, uptake in the blood is controversial. Also, there is no evidence that NMPs are excreted via urine. This study was designed to clarify the time course of NMPs absorption in blood and the excretion in urine. Male mice received a single administration of fluorescent polystyrene (PS) beads (100-nm and 3-µm) via tail vein injection, gavage, or pulmonary perfusion. Blood and urine samples were measured 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 h after exposure by confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was performed to corroborate the findings. Fluorescence particles were detected in both blood and urine from the 100-nm and 3-µm PS-treated groups after exposure. In the 3-µm PS treated group, particles with corresponding diameters were detected after intravenous injection and pulmonary perfusion, and particles with a diameter <3 µm were detected in blood samples after gavage. The fluorescent signal in urine was particularly weak and the size was <3 µm. Significant time course changes in fluorescence intensity were demonstrated in blood and urine (P < 0.05) after intravenous injection and pulmonary perfusion in the 100-nm PS-treated group. By contrast, significant changes were detected in the urine (P < 0.05), but not the blood, after gavage. TEM confirmed the presence of particles with corresponding diameters in blood samples; however, the excretion in urine was difficult to confirm for nano-plastics (NPs) and micro-plastics (MPs) because all particles with diameters of approximately 100 nm and 3 µm had irregular shapes and no clear boundaries. Our findings revealed that both NPs and MPs enter the blood circulation through digestive and respiratory pathways. Both 100-nm and 3-µm NMPs may be excreted through urine, but further evidence is needed. The physical and chemical properties of MPs may be impacted by digestive processes in vivo.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Helicobacter pylori infection is considered as the most important risk factor in the pathogenesis of gastric cancer. This study aims to evaluate the long-term effects of H pylori eradication treatment on the incidence and mortality of gastric cancer among a high-risk population. METHODS: This prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled trial was conducted in a high-risk area in southern China in July 1994. A total of 1630 asymptomatic, H pylori-infected individuals were randomly assigned to receive standard triple therapy for H pylori eradication (n = 817) or placebo (n = 813), and were followed up until December 2020. The primary outcome was incidence of gastric cancer. Total and cause-specific mortalities were the secondary outcomes. RESULTS: During 26.5 years of follow-up, 21 participants (2.57%) in the treatment arm and 35 (4.31%) in the placebo arm were diagnosed with gastric cancer. Participants receiving H pylori treatment had a lower incidence of gastric cancer compared with their placebo counterparts (hazard ratio [HR], 0.57; 95% CI, 0.33-0.98). More obvious risk reduction was observed among those without premalignant gastric lesions (HR, 0.37; 95% CI, 0.15-0.95) and those without dyspepsia symptoms at baseline (HR, 0.44; 95% CI, 0.21-0.94). Furthermore, compared with 32 cases of gastric cancer observed among 527 participants with persistent H pylori infection in the placebo group, only 16 were identified in 625 subjects with successful eradication in the treatment group (HR, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.26-0.83). However, there were no statistically significant differences for any mortality end points between the 2 groups. CONCLUSIONS: Eradication of H pylori might confer a long-term protection against gastric cancer in high-risk populations, especially for infected individuals without precancerous gastric lesions at baseline.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a critical treatment for patients with coronary heart disease after percutaneous coronary intervention. Unfortunately, participation and adherence of CR are unexpectedly poor. This study aims to test whether low-intensity or medium-intensity brisk walking is more helpful in improving early attendance, adherence and physical results. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This randomised controlled study will compare the effects of low-intensity and medium-intensity brisk walking to improve adherence and cardiopulmonary endurance. Participants will be randomly allocated to low-intensity or medium-intensity groups and will be followed-up for 8 weeks. Primary and secondary outcome data will be collected at baseline and at 2, 4 and 8 weeks. Primary outcomes measure changes in oxygen consumption (VO2) peak value (mL/kg/min), as well as adherence. Secondary outcomes include changes in body mass index, oxygen pulse, maximal metabolic equivalent, breathing reserve, vital capacity, ratio of forced expiratory volume in 1 s to forced vital capacity, Δoxygen consumption/Δwork rate (ΔVO2/ΔWR), minute ventilation/carbon dioxide production and self-efficacy. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Ethical approval and informed consent form have been obtained from the Ethics Committee of Hebei General Hospital (approval number: NA-2021-03). The study background and main objective, as well as potential benefits and risks, will be fully explained to the participants and their families. Findings from this study will be published on academic journals in Chinese or in English for widespread dissemination of the results TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: ChiCTR2100047568.

RESUMO

Tilia endochrysea Handel-Mazzetti 1926, distributed in the southern margin of Chinese Subtropical Zone, is the only one species in genus Tilia has dehiscent fruit. The whole chloroplast genome of T. endochrysea was 162,838 bp with 36.46% GC content, including a large single-copy (LSC) region of 91,264 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 20,414 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) of 51,160 bp. The chloroplast genome encodes 130 genes, including 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The phylogenetic tree shows T. endochrysea was the basal taxon in Tilia and closely related to Craigia yunnanensis (Smith et Evans 1921).

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Rural areas are the weakest place for epidemic prevention and control, yet few studies have specifically conducted surveys in rural areas. The purpose of this study is to assess rural residents' knowledge of the COVID-19 and its prevention in China. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey study containing 1,426 samples was conducted in Fuqing, China to assess rural residents' knowledge of the COVID-19 and its prevention. Logistic regression was used to identify potential differences in participants' knowledge of COVID-19 and its prevention and control in different population subgroups. RESULTS: The mean and median of residents' knowledge of COVID-19 was 5.53 and 6 points, respectively. The mean and median of residents' knowledge related to self-protection against COVID-19 was 10.34 and 11 points, respectively. Older adults (AOR45-59 = 2.26, 95% CI 1.20 to 4.27; AOR60-69 = 3.13, 95% CI 1.63 to 5.98; AOR≥70 = 4.68, 95% CI 2.35 to 9.33) were more deficient in knowledge of COVID-19. Those who were better educated and with a higher average annual household income were less likely to be deficient in the knowledge of COVID-19 and knowledge of self-protection against COVID-19. Moreover, those who were single, divorced, or widowed (AOR = 1.67, 95% CI 1.13 to 2.46) were more deficient in the knowledge of self-protection against COVID-19. CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests that when facing a pandemic like COVID-19, the key is to inform the public to understand simple and effective self-protection measures. Therefore, we call on the governments to give priority to publicity and education on self-prevention measures for the targeted populations and regions. This is most evident among the vulnerable groups like those who were unmarried, elderly, and those with low education or low income. Similar suggestions may be of use in other countries as well.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Evidence on serum arsenic and oral cancer risk was limited. We aimed to evaluate the association between serum arsenic and the risk of oral cancer in a southeast China population. METHODS: Serum arsenic was determined for 325 oral cancer patients and 648 controls using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Logistic regression and restricted cubic spline were analysed the association between serum arsenic level and oral cancer risk, and crude and adjusted odds ratios (aOR) with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were calculated. Factors adjusted for included age, gender, BMI, smoking, drinking, education, residence, marital status and dietary factors. Stratification analysis was further performed according to drinking, smoking and dietary characteristics. RESULTS: Serum arsenic level was lower in the case group (P50  = 19.2µg/L, IQR = 11.6 ~ 26.4µg/L) than in the control group (P50  = 30.2 µg/L, IQR = 25.0 ~ 36.4 µg/L). An inverse but nonlinear association was observed between arsenic level and oral cancer risk by restricted cubic spline. These with moderate serum arsenic levels had a lower risk of oral cancer than those with low levels (OR = 0.11; 95%CI: 0.07-0.18), after adjusting for demographic and dietary intake factors. We also kept serum arsenic as a continuous variable in a regression model, where a similar inverse association between arsenic and oral cancer was observed, with OR = 0.86 (95%CI: 0.84-0.88). Stratification analysis revealed no significant multiplicative interactions between serum arsenic and smoking, drinking or dietary intake. CONCLUSION: Serum arsenic is inversely related to oral cancer risk. Relative to those with low levels of arsenic, people with moderate serum arsenic levels had a lower risk of oral cancer. If confirmed, serum arsenic level may be a useful predictive marker for oral cancer risk.
