RESUMO

The detection of volatile amines is necessary due to the serious toxicity hazards they pose to human skin, respiratory systems, and nervous systems. However, traditional amines detection methods require bulky equipment, high costs, and complex measurements. Herein, we report a new simple, rapid, convenient, and visual method for the detection of volatile amines based on the gas-solid reactions of tetrachloro-p-benzoquinone (TCBQ) and volatile amines. The gas-solid reactions of TCBQ with a variety of volatile amines showed a visually distinct color in a time-dependent manner. Moreover, TCBQ can be easily fabricated into simple and flexible rapid test strips for detecting and distinguishing n-propylamine from other volatile amines, including ethylamine, n-butyamine, n-pentamine, n-butyamine and dimethylamine, in less than 3 s without any equipment assistance.

Glucocorticoid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (GIONFH) is the main complication secondary to long-term or excessive use of glucocorticoids (GCs). Taxifolin (TAX) is a natural antioxidant with various pharmacological effects, such as antioxidative stress and antiapoptotic properties. The purpose of this study was to explore whether TAX could regulate oxidative stress and apoptosis in GIONFH by activating the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway. We conducted qRT-PCR, Western blotting, TUNEL assays, flow cytometry, and other experiments in vitro. Microcomputed tomography analysis, hematoxylin-eosin staining, and immunohistochemical staining were performed to determine the therapeutic effect of TAX in vivo. TAX mitigated the overexpression of ROS and NOX gene expression induced by DEX, effectively reducing oxidative stress. Additionally, TAX could alleviate DEX-induced osteoblast apoptosis, as evidenced by qRT-PCR, Western blotting, and other experimental techniques. Our in vivo studies further demonstrated that TAX mitigates the progression of GIONFH in rats by combating oxidative stress and apoptosis. Mechanistic exploration revealed that TAX thwarts the progression of GIONFH through the activation of the Nrf2 pathway. Overall, our research herein reports that TAX-mediated Nrf2 activation ameliorates oxidative stress and apoptosis for the treatment of GIONFH.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate postoperative patient satisfaction at mid- to long-term follow-up after proximal fibular osteotomy and to identify risk factors for patient dissatisfaction. METHODS: This was a retrospective cross-sectional study that included 252 knees from 160 osteoarthritis (OA) patients who underwent proximal fibular osteotomy with a follow-up of four to eight years. Patients were categorized into a satisfied group (satisfaction score ≥ 20) or a dissatisfied group (satisfaction score < 20) based on the New Knee Society Score (New KSS). Patient demographics, preoperative pain visual analogue scale (VAS) score, preoperative Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score, Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) grade, preoperative hip-knee-ankle (HKA) angle, and preoperative medial proximal tibial angle (MPTA) were compared between the two groups. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to identify risk factors for patient dissatisfaction. RESULTS: Of the 203 knees, 130 (64.0%) were satisfied with their results. Multiple logistic regression analysis demonstrated that severe medial OA (K-L grade = IV) was an independent risk factor for patient dissatisfaction after proximal fibular osteotomy (OR 8.334, 95% CI 3.815-18.206, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Our study confirmed that proximal fibular osteotomy was a simple and effective treatment for medial OA patients, and majority of our patients obtained a higher satisfaction rate within mid- to long-term follow-up after surgery. Severe medial OA, however, was an independent risk factor for dissatisfaction.

BACKGROUND: The correlation between smoking and alcohol consumption and the development of Dupuytren's disease (DD) has been acknowledged. However, the definitive causal relationship between these two factors and DD remains elusive. In order to establish a causal connection, we employed the two-sample Mendelian randomization method to evaluate the relationship between smoking and alcohol consumption and DD. METHODS: Based on publicly available genome-wide association studies (GWAS), two-sample univariate MR analyses were performed to assess the causal effects of drinks per week, cigarettes per day, smoking initiation, age of initiation, and smoking cessation on DD. We used inverse variance weighted (IVW) to generate the primary results for the MR analysis. Furthermore, we performed sensitivity MR analyses based on various methods to assess the robustness of estimations. Bidirectional MR analyses were used to study the interaction between smoking and alcohol consumption. Multivariate MR analyses were used to obtain independent causal effects of smoking or drinking on DD. RESULTS: Our two-sample MR, which was predominately based on IVW, revealed a causal relationship between drinks per week and DD (OR = 2.948, 95%CI: 1.746-4.975, P = 5.16E-05). In addition, there is no causal association between cigarettes per day, smoking initiation, age of initiation, smoking cessation and DD. Similar conclusions were reached by other MR methods. The results of the bidirectional MR analyses showed that the causal relationships between age of initiation and drinks per week were robust and significant. Multivariate MR results indicated that the causal effect of alcohol consumption on DD was independent of smoking. CONCLUSION: Our Mendelian Randomization study indicated that there is a causality between drinking alcohol and DD, but no such causality was found between smoking and DD. This is the first study to prove that drinking alcohol could cause DD. This could help people who are trying to prevent DD from happening in the first place.

BACKGROUND: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a widely prevalent degenerative disease marked by extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation, inflammation, and apoptosis. Taxifolin (TAX) is a natural antioxidant possessing various pharmacological benefits, such as combating inflammation, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and serves as a potential chemopreventive agent by regulating genes through an antioxidant response element (ARE)-dependent mechanism. Currently, no studies have investigated the therapeutic impact and precise mechanism of TAX on OA. PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to examine the potential role and mechanism of TAX in reshaping the cartilage microenvironment, thereby offering a stronger theoretical foundation for pharmacologically activating the Nrf2 pathway to manage OA. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: The pharmacological effects of TAX were examined in chondrocytes through in vitro studies and in a destabilization of the medial meniscus (DMM) rat model for in vivo analysis. RESULTS: TAX suppresses IL-1ß triggered secretion of inflammatory agents, chondrocyte apoptosis, and ECM degradation, contributing to the remodeling of the cartilage microenvironment. In vivo experiment results demonstrated that TAX counteracted cartilage degeneration induced by DMM in rats. Mechanistic investigations revealed that TAX hinders OA development by reducing NF-κB activation and ROS production through the activation of the Nrf2/HO-1 axis. CONCLUSION: TAX reshapes the articular cartilage microenvironment by suppressing inflammation, mitigating apoptosis, and decreasing ECM degradation through the activation of the Nrf2 pathway. As a result, pharmacological activation of the Nrf2 pathway by TAX holds potential clinical significance in remodeling the joint microenvironment for OA treatment.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is an age-related chronic degenerative disease with complex pathophysiological mechanisms. Accumulating evidence indicates that nod-like receptor pyrin domain 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome-mediated pyroptosis of chondrocytes plays a crucial role in the OA progression. Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 4 (TRPV4), described as a calcium-permeable cation channel, isassociated with proinflammatory factors and pyroptosis. In this study, we studied the potential functions of TRPV4 in chondrocyte pyroptosis and cartilage degradation. We found that lipopolysaccharides(LPS)-induced mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) accumulation aggravated chondrocyte pyroptosis and cartilage degeneration. TRPV4 induces dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) mitochondrial translocation through the Ca2+-calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) signaling pathway, which subsequently caused the mitochondrial dysfunction (e.g., mPTP over opening; Δψm depolarization; ATP production decreased; mtROS accumulation), pyroptosis and extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation through hexokinase 2 (HK2) dissociation from mitochondrial membrane. Moreover, TRPV4 inhibition reversed Drp1-involved chondrocyte pyroptosis and cartilage degeneration in the anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) mouse model. Our findings revealed the internal mechanisms underlying TRPV4 regulation in chondrocytes and its intrinsic therapeutic efficacy for OA.

Background: Some studies had reported that patients with viral hepatitis are at increased risk of reduced bone mineral density and even osteoporosis. However, the interaction between reduced bone mineral density (BMD) and viral hepatitis remains inconclusive. Therefore, our study collected hepatitis test results and bone mineral density from respondents in the NHANES database. The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is an association between hepatitis and a decrease in bone mineral density. Methods: The respondents with both hepatitis- and BMD-related indicators from the NHANES database in the United States from 2005-2010, 2013-2014, to 2017-2020 were collected for this study. BMD were compared between respondents who were positive and negative for respondents related to hepatitis B and C. BMD was measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry of the femur and lumbar spine. Finally, multiple regression analysis was performed between hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis C RNA (HCV-RNA) and BMD in the respondents. Results: A total of 15,642 respondents were included in the hepatitis B surface antigen-related survey. Of these, 1,217 respondents were positive for hepatitis B surface antigen. A total of 5111 hepatitis C RNA-related responders were included. Hepatitis C RNA-positive had 268 respondents. According to the results of the multiple regression analysis, the femoral BMD was significantly lower in HBsAg (+) respondents compared to HBsAg (-) respondents: -0.018 (-0.026, -0.009) (P < 0.01). Moreover, spinal BMD was significantly lower in HBsAg (+) respondents compared to HBsAg (-) respondents: -0.020 (-0.030, -0.010) (P < 0.01). According to the results of multiple regression analysis for hepatitis C RNA, HCV-RNA (+) respondents had significantly lower BMD compared to HCV-RNA (-) respondents: -0.043 (-0.059, -0.026) (P < 0.01). Conclusion: During the analysis of respondents in the NHANES database in the United States, positive tests for hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis C RNA were found to be associated with a reduction in BMD. Positive serology for these hepatitis indicators may increase the risk of reduced BMD. Of course, this conclusion still needs to be further confirmed by more large clinical trials.

OBJECTIVE: To identify different key genes and pathways between males and females by studying differentially expressed genes (DEGs). METHODS: The gene expression data of GSE123568 were downloaded from GEO database, including osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) samples from 3 females and 7 males, and DEGs between different gender were identified with R software. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed to further analyze the interactions between overlapping DEGs, and finally, GO, KEGG and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) were conducted for enrichment analysis. RESULTS: 131 DEGs were identified between ONFH females and ONFH males, including 76 up-regulated genes and 55 down-regulated genes. And 10 hub genes were identified in PPI network, including SLC4A1, GYPA, CXCL8, IFIT1, GBP5, IFI44, IFI44L, IFIT3, KEL and AHSP. Functional enrichment analysis revealed that these genes were mainly enriched in cGMP-PKG signaling pathway, Fatty acid degradation, Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, Systemic lupus erythematosus, Hematopoietic cell lineage and NO-cGMP-PKG signaling. CONCLUSIONS: NO-cGMP-PKG signaling may play an important role in the occurrence and development of ONFH. SLC4A1, GYPA, CXCL8, GBP5 and AHSP may be key genes associated with gender difference in the progression of ONFH, which may be ideal targets or prognostic markers for the treatment of ONFH.

PURPOSE: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is a surgical rehabilitation protocol of increasing interest to clinicians in recent years, with the aim of faster and better recovery of patients after surgery. Our main focus in this review is to analyze the effectiveness of ERAS rehabilitation protocols in orthopedic surgery. By comparing the post-operative recovery of patients receiving the ERAS rehabilitation program with that of patients receiving the conventional rehabilitation program, we observed whether the patients who have received the ERAS rehabilitation program could recover better and faster, thereby achieving the aim of a shorter hospital stay and reducing the incidence of complications. METHODS: We conducted the literature searches in PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane Reviews, EMBASE and other databases on clinical studies related to orthopedic surgery regarding the effectiveness of rehabilitation using ERAS rehabilitation protocols compared with conventional rehabilitation protocols. A systematic review was performed in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items of Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) statement. If there was variability in the rehabilitation data of the patients between the two subgroups, it was considered that there was a difference in the rehabilitation effect of the ERAS rehabilitation protocol and the conventional rehabilitation protocol on the patients. CONCLUSION: The application of ERAS rehabilitation protocols can shorten patients' hospital stay and reduce their expenses. In addition, patients with ERAS rehabilitation protocols will have fewer postoperative complications, while patients will have less postoperative pain than those with conventional rehabilitation, facilitating better postoperative recovery.

BACKGROUND: Trichlorophenols (TCPs) are metabolites of several organochlorine chemicals, including chlorobenzene, hexachlorocyclohexane, and chlorophenoxy acid, present in air, surface water, soil, and sediment. Many studies have shown that endocrine disruptors (EDs)may contribute to decreased bone mass and the increased risk of osteoporosis. However, the relationship between TCP and bone mineral density (BMD) has not been studied yet. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study by using data from the 2005-2010 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). TCP levels were measured in urine samples from 3385 participants and bone mineral density was obtained by dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) lumbar spine and femur scanning. Multiple regression analysis, stratified analysis, curve fitting analysis, and trend tests were used to assess the relationship between TCP and BMD. RESULT: After adjusting for confounding factors, the results of multiple regression analysis only showed that ln-2,4,5-TCP was negatively associated with BMD of lumbar spine. In stratified analyses, Male, Menstruating Female and Menopausal Female were divided into three groups for analysis. The results showed that ln-2,4,5-TCP and ln-2,4,6-TCP were not statistically associated with BMD in total femur, femoral neck, femoral tuberosity, intertrochanteric femur and lumbar spine, which was also confirmed by curve fitting analyses and trend tests. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that 2,4,5-TCP and 2,4,6-TCP in urine samples were not significantly associated with BMD in the US population. Therefore, 2,4,5-TCP and 2,4,6-TCP may not be detrimental to BMD.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a joint disease that is characterized by articular cartilage degeneration and destruction. Stevioside (SVS) is a diterpenoid glycoside extracted from Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni with some specific effects against inflammatory and apoptotic, whereas it is still unclear what function SVS has in osteoarthritis. This study focuses on the anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptosis functions of SVS on chondrocytes induced by interleukin (IL)-1beta, and the role of SVS in an osteoarthritis model for mice. We can detect the production of inflammatory factors such as nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), the Griess reaction, and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). On the basis of Western blot, we have observed the protein expressions of cartilage matrix metabolism, inflammatory factors, and apoptosis of chondrocytes. Simultaneously, the pharmacological effects of SVS in mice were evaluated by hematoxylin and eosin (HE), toluidine blue, Safranin O, and immunohistochemical staining. The results show that SVS slows extracellular matrix degradation and chondrocyte apoptosis. In addition, SVS mediates its cellular effect by inhibiting the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathways. Meanwhile, molecular docking studies revealed that SVS has excellent binding capabilities to p65, extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), p38, and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK). The study suggests that SVS can be developed as a potential osteoarthritis treatment.

Background: More than half of cancer patients develop severe chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), resulting in low quality of life, negative effects on function, and challenges in treatment compliance. Most recent studies have shown that exercise therapy has a positive impact on reducing CIPN symptoms and can also improve quality of life, balance, and activity levels. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effect of exercise therapy on the efficacy of CIPN. Methods: Computerized search of Embase, Web of Science, CNKI, Wan Fang Data, VIP, CBM for RCTs on exercise therapy for CIPN from database creation to November 2022, without language restriction. The Cochrane Handbook 5.3 risk of bias assessment tool was used to evaluate the quality of the included studies. Then Revman 5.3 software was used to evaluate the quality of the included studies. The heterogeneity of the research results is tested by I2, continuous variables were presented as weighted mean difference or standard mean difference, and confidence intervals were set at 95%. Stata15.0 was utilized to conduct a meta-analysis. Results: A total of 15 RCTs with 1,124 patients were included. Meta-analysis showed that the test group was superior to the control group in terms of total symptom score (SMD: -0.62; 95% Cl: -0.99, -0.24), numbness, tingling, quality of life score (total score, physical, function), pain, balance, and neurotoxicity function assessment (FACT/GOG-NTX) questionnaire (p < 0.05). Limitations: The duration and frequency of treatment are different every week, which may have some impact on the results. Conclusion: Exercise therapy can be effective in treating CIPN by improving symptom score (total symptom score, numbness, tingling), quality of life score (total score, physical function), pain, balance, and FACT/GOG-NTX questionnaires. It still needs to be refined and validated by more high-quality, multicenter, large-sample RCTs in the future. To reduce pain after total hip replacement (THR), researchers are interested in drug-free interventions. However, there is still a lack of consensus on their prevention efficacy. We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the use of nonpharmaceutical interventions for postoperative pain management after THR. We searched the Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, PEDRO, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases for articles published between and 1991 and 2020. The main outcome measures were postoperative pain, opioid consumption, and quality of life (QoL). In total, 1,942 patients were studied. We found moderate evidence indicating postoperative pain relief measured by the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index Scale, with mean differences (MDs) of -0.28 (95% confidence interval [CI], -0.49 to -0.07; P=0.01; I2 =0%) within three months, -0.19 (95% CI, -0.40 to 0.02; P=0.07; I2 =0%) between 3-6 months, and -0.13 (95% CI, -0.35 to 0.08; P=0.21; I2 =0%) between 6-12 months. Additionally, we found that acupuncture therapy could reduce opioid analgesic consumption (MD, -0.98; 95% CI, -1.18 to -0.79; fentanyl [mg/h]; P<0.01; I2 =72.2%) and significantly improve pain relief with an MD of 0.90 (95% CI, 0.47 to 1.33; P<0.01; I2 =0%) measured using the visual analog scale. Electrotherapy slightly improved perceived pain with an MD of 0.22 (95% CI, -0.27 to 0.70; P=0.37; I2 =0%). Moreover, moderate evidence has shown that preoperative exercises improve QoL. This meta-analysis suggested that continuous passive motion did not improve pain or QoL. Postoperative exercise was associated with pain relief and improved QoL. Acupuncture therapy after THR has been shown to reduce opioid analgesic consumption.

The interaction between overlapping DEGs was further analyzed by establishing the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. Finally, GO and KEGG were used for enrichment analysis. RESULTS: 924 overlapping DEGs between postmenopausal women and men with osteoarthritis (OA) were identified, including 674 up-regulated genes and 249 down-regulated ones. And 10 hub genes were identified in the PPI network, including BMP4, KDM6A, JMJD1C, NFATC1, PRKX, SRF, ZFX, LAMTOR5, UFD1L and AMBN. The findings of the functional enrichment analysis suggested that these genes were predominantly expressed in MAPK signaling pathway as well as the Thyroid hormone signaling pathway, indicating that those two pathways may be involved in onset and disease progression of OA in postmenopausal patients. CONCLUSION: BMP4, KDM6A, JMJD1C, PRKX, ZFX and LAMTOR5 are expected to play crucial roles in disease development in postmenopausal patients and may be ideal targets or prognostic markers for the treatment of OA.

BACKGROUND: Revision surgery is the most common treatment for patients who develop infection after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Two types of spacers are often used in revision surgery: dynamic spacers and static spacers. The comparative efficacy of these two types of spacers on knee prosthesis infections is not well established. Therefore, we carried out a systematic evaluation and meta-analysis with the aim of comparing the difference in efficacy between dynamic and static spacers. METHODS: We conducted the literature search in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases. The articles searched were clinical study comparing the difference in efficacy between dynamic spacers and static spacers for the treatment of prosthetic infections occurring after total knee arthroplasty. RESULTS: We conducted a literature search and screening based on the principles of PICOS. Ultimately, 14 relevant clinical studies were included in our current study. We use infection control rate as the primary evaluation indicator. The KSS knee scores (KSSs), KSS functional scores, bone loss and range of motion (ROM) are secondary indicators of evaluation. Thirteen of these included studies reported the infection control rates, with no significant difference between dynamic and static shims (RR: 1.03; 95% Cl 0.98, 1.09; P = 0.179 > 0.05). The KSSs were reported in 10 articles (RR: 5.98; 95% CI 0.52, 11.43; P = 0.032 < 0.05). Six articles reported the KSS functional scores (RR: 13.90; 95% CI 4.95, 22.85; P = 0.02 < 0.05). Twelve articles reported the ROM (RR: 17.23. 95% CI 10.18, 24.27; P < 0.0001). Six articles reported the bone loss (RR: 2.04; 95% CI 1.11, 3.77; P = 0.022 < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Current evidence demonstrates that dynamic spacers are comparable to static spacers in controlling prosthetic joint infection. In terms of improving the functional prognosis of the knee joint, dynamic spacers are more effective than static spacers.

BACKGROUND: Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is considered to be one of the most challenging complications of joint replacement, which remains unpredictable. As a simple and emerging biomarker, calprotectin (CLP) has been considered to be useful in ruling out PJI in recent years. The purpose of this study was to investigate the accuracy and sensitivity of CLP in the diagnosis of PJI. METHODS: We searched and screened the publications from PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library from database establishment to June 2021. Subsequently, Stata version 16.0 software was used to combine the pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio (PLR), negative likelihood ratio (NLR), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), operating characteristic curve, and area under the curve (AUC). Heterogeneity across articles was evaluated by the I2 statistics. Finally, sources of heterogeneity were detected by subgroup analysis based on study design, detection method, sample size, and cutoff values. RESULTS: A total of 7 studies were included in our study, comprising 525 patients. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, PLR, and NLR of CLP for PJI diagnosis were 0.94(95% CI 0.87-0.98), 0.93(95% CI 0.87-0.96), 13.65(95% CI 6.89-27.08), and 0.06(95% CI 0.02-0.15), respectively, while the DOR and AUC were 222.33(95% CI 52.52-941.11) and 0.98 (95% CI 0.96-0.99), respectively. CONCLUSION: Synovial CLP is a reliable biomarker and can be used as a diagnostic criterion for PJI in the future. However, the uncertainty resulting from the poor study numbers and sample sizes limit our ability to definitely draw conclusions on the basis of our study.

BACKGROUND: As an uncommon but severe complication, medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) may be significantly under-recognized. We aimed to determine whether MCL injury influences postoperative outcomes of patients undergoing TKA. METHODS: Two independent reviewers searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE from their inception to July 1, 2021. The main outcomes were postoperative function, and secondary outcomes included the incidences of revision and complications. RESULTS: A total of 403 articles yielded 15 studies eligible for inclusion with 10 studies used for meta-analysis. This study found that there was a statistically significant difference in postoperative functional scores, range of motion (ROM), complications, and revision rates, with adverse outcomes occurring more commonly in patients with MCL injury. CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis highlights the complexity of MCL injury during TKA and shows the impact on postoperative function, joint mobility, complications, and revision. Surgeons need to prevent and put more emphasis on MCL injury during TKA.

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) occurs frequently in the elderly and causes pain, especially when they walk. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment is effective in releasing knee osteoarthritis. Jintiange (JTG) capsule is widely used in treating knee osteoarthritis, but its clinical effects such as pain relief are still unclear. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the clinical results systematically and negative effects of JTG capsule in patients with knee osteoarthritis. METHODS: A meta-analysis of clinical randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on JTG capsule treatment was carried out in KOA patients. The search time was from the establishment of the database to May 2021. The database included PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Web of Science database, Chinese Biomedical database (CBM), Chinese VIP information, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and WanFang database. The outcome indicators were extracted from the included literature and analyzed, and the risk of bias was assessed through Cochrane Handbook 5.0.1. RESULTS: Twenty-two articles analyzed in this study involved 1887 patients. JTG capsule used alone or used with other interventions affects total effective rate significantly (RR: 1.19; 95% Cl: 1.11, 1.29; P=0.045), VAS score (SMD: -0.74; 95% Cl: -0.90, -0.59; P ≤ 0.001), WOMAC score (SMD: -0.77; 95% Cl: -0.96, -0.59; P ≤ 0.001), and Lequesne score (SMD: -0.82; 95% Cl: -1.02, -0.61; P=0.010). CONCLUSION: Our current evidence indicated that JTG capsule may release the pain of KOA patients and improve their functional activity. However, considering the unsatisfactory quality of the included trials, more high-quality trials are needed to prove this issue.
