RESUMO

Frequency conversion of dissipative solitons associated with the generation of broadband optical frequency combs having a tooth spacing of hundreds of giga-hertz is a topical challenge holding the key to practical applications in precision spectroscopy and data processing. The work in this direction is underpinned by fundamental problems in nonlinear and quantum optics. Here, we present the dissipative two-colour bright-bright and dark-dark solitons in a quasi-phase-matched microresonator pumped for the second-harmonic generation in the near-infrared spectral range. We also found the breather states associated with the pulse front motion and collisions. The soliton regime is found to be typical in slightly phase-mismatched resonators, while the phase-matched ones reveal broader but incoherent spectra and higher-order harmonic generation. Soliton and breather effects reported here exist for the negative tilt of the resonance line, which is possible only via the dominant contribution of second-order nonlinearity.

Meteorin-like (Metrnl) is a novel secreted protein with various biological activities. In this study, we investigated whether and how Metrnl regulated skin wound healing in mice. Global Metrnl gene knockout mice (Metrnl-/-) and endothelial cell-specific Metrnl gene knockout mice (EC-Metrnl-/-) were generated. Eight-mm-diameter full-thickness excisional wound was made on the dorsum of each mouse. The skin wounds were photographed and analyzed. In C57BL/6 mice, we observed that Metrnl expression levels were markedly increased in skin wound tissues. We found that both global and endothelial cell-specific Metrnl gene knockout significantly retarded mouse skin wound healing, and endothelial Metrnl was the key factor affecting wound healing and angiogenesis. The proliferation, migration and tube formation ability of primary human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were inhibited by Metrnl knockdown, but significantly promoted by addition of recombinant Metrnl (10 ng/mL). Metrnl knockdown abolished the proliferation of endothelial cells stimulated by recombinant VEGFA (10 ng/mL) but not by recombinant bFGF (10 ng/mL). We further revealed that Metrnl deficiency impaired VEGFA downstream AKT/eNOS activation in vitro and in vivo. The damaged angiogenetic activity in Metrnl knockdown HUVECs was partly rescued by addition of AKT activator SC79 (10 µM). In conclusion, Metrnl deficiency retards skin wound healing in mice, which is related to impaired endothelial Metrnl-mediated angiogenesis. Metrnl deficiency impairs angiogenesis by inhibiting AKT/eNOS signaling pathway.

OBJECTIVES: To study the effects of age on the olfactory function recovery of chronic rhinosinusitis patients after endoscopic sinus surgery and related risk factors. METHODS: A total of 176 chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) patients enrolled from February 2017 to October 2019 were divided into child, youth, middle-aged, and elderly groups. Their baseline data, T&T olfactory test score, visual analogue scale (VAS) olfactory score, sinus computed tomography (CT) Lund-Mackay score, and Lund-Kennedy score were compared. Based on postoperative olfactory function, they were divided into good and poor improvement groups. RESULTS: Complication with nasal polyps, allergic rhinitis history, and sinus surgery history had significant differences among patients of different ages (P < .05). Three months after surgery, T&T olfactory, VAS olfactory, Lund-Mackay, and Lund-Kennedy scores all rose with increasing age, with significant differences between any 2 groups (P < .05). The improvement of postoperative olfactory function became poorer with aging (P < .05). T&T and VAS olfactory scores had significant positive correlations with Lund-Mackay and Lund-Kennedy scores (P < .001). Age, preoperative Lund-Mackay and Lund-Kennedy scores, complication with nasal polyps, allergic rhinitis history, sinus surgery history, and postoperative complications were risk factors for the poor improvement of postoperative olfactory function. Doctor-directed treatment was a protective factor for good improvement. CONCLUSIONS: The improvement of olfactory function of CRS patients after endoscopic sinus surgery declines with aging. Age, preoperative Lund-Mackay and Lund-Kennedy scores, complication with nasal polyps, allergic rhinitis history, sinus surgery history, and postoperative complications are risk factors for the poor improvement of postoperative olfactory function. Doctor-directed treatment is a protective factor for good improvement.

Actinidia arguta Sieb.Zucc. is a fruit that is rich in flavonoids. Nevertheless, details of flavonoid formation and the potential mechanism behind flavonoid biosynthesis have not previously been reported. In order to explore the biosynthetic regulation mechanism of flavonoids in A. arguta Sieb.Zucc., we conducted a combination of extensive targeted metabolite analysis and analyzed transcriptomes to determine the flavonoids present and the genes bound up with flavonoid biosynthesis in the two main cultivated varieties of A. arguta Sieb.Zucc. in Northern China. The maturity period is from August to September. A total of 118 flavonoids were found in fruits. Among them, 39 flavonoids were accumulated at significant levels after fruit ripening. Transcriptome analysis indicated that most flavonoid biosynthesis structural genes and certain regulatory genes exhibited differential expression between the two varieties. Correlation analysis of transcriptome and metabolite profiles showed that the ways of expression of 21 differentially expressed genes related to structure and regulation between the 2 varieties were more highly correlated with 7 flavonoids after fruit ripening. These results contribute to the development of A. arguta Sieb.Zucc. as a food and drug homologous functional food.

Previous studies reported that Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) causes cell damage through its metabolite aflatoxin B1-8, 9-epoxide (AFBO), which is catalyzed by CYP450 enzymes. AFBO can be detoxified by glutathione S transferase (GST). Ferulic acid (FA) is known for its antioxidant capacity and intestinal protective function. However, the mechanism of AFB1 causing duodenal injury and the role of FA in AFB1-induced intestinal damage remains unclear. In this study, rats were exposed to AFB1 and treated with FA for 30 days. The results showed that I) FA alleviated the histopathological changes of duodenum and the ultrastructural changes of tight junctions between duodenal epithelial cells induced by AFB1. II) FA reduced the content of AFB1-ALB adduct in blood. III) The low expression of tight junction proteins (Claudin-1 and ZO-1) and the high expression of ROCK1 and ROCK2 induced by AFB1 were significantly reversed by FA. IV) The high expression of CYP2A6 and CYP3A4 were significantly down-regulated by FA, and the activity of GST was promoted by FA. V) The binding affinity of FA to CYP2A6 is very similar to the binding affinity of AFB1 to CYP2A6, which meaning that there is a competitive relationship between FA and AFB1 when conjugating to CYP2A6. These results suggested that FA proved effective in alleviating AFB1-induced duodenal barrier damage via up-regulating tight junction proteins, down-regulating ROCK, competing CYP450 enzyme, and activating GST in duodenal epithelial cells of rats.

Photonic platforms with χ(2) nonlinearity offer new degrees of freedom for Kerr frequency comb development. Here, we demonstrate Kerr soliton generation at 1550 nm with phase-matched quadratic coupling to the 775 nm harmonic band in a single AlN microring and thus the formation of dual-band mode-locked combs. In the strong quadratic coupling regime where the χ(2) phase-matching window overlaps the pump mode, the pump-to-harmonic-comb conversion efficiency is optimized. However, the strong quadratic coupling also drastically modifies the Kerr comb generation dynamics and decreases the probability of soliton generation. By engineering the χ(2) phase-matching wavelength, we are able to achieve a balance between high conversion efficiency and high soliton formation rate under the available pump power and microring quality factors. Our numerical simulations confirm the experimental observations. These findings provide guidance on tailoring single-cavity dual-band coherent comb sources.
