Background: Hermetia illucens L. have gained popularity in recent years as an environmentally friendly response to both the present and potential future food/feed crisis. The larvae of H. illucens L., or black soldier fly larvae (BSFL), is an alternative solution to tackle the issue of organic waste bioconversion. However, understanding the environmental loads associated with biowaste bioconversion using BSFL to produce dried BSFL is a pivotal point to keep the environment sustainable. This study reported a life cycle assessment (LCA) of the biowaste bioconversion process of BSFL and determined the environment impact analysis to make recommendations for modifications to lessen environmental consequences. Methods: The methodology used is life cycle assessment (LCA), which includes: (a) system boundary determination (gate-to-gate), starting from biowaste production, biowaste bioconversion, prepupae and BSFL frass production. The system boundary of the dried BSFL production is designed for both the processing and production of one cycle of BSFL; (b) life cycle inventory activities carried out at PT Biomagg Sinergi Internasional, Depok, West Java, Indonesia; (c) conducting life cycle impact assessment on five environmental impact categories namely global warming potential (GWP), acidification (AC), terrestrial eutrophication (TE), fossil fuel depletion (FFE), eco-toxicity (ET); and (d) interpretation of the assessment result. The LCA is conducted using openLCA 1.11 software and TRACI 2.1 impact assessment method. Results: The impact values of GWP, AC, TE, FFE, and ET, per 100 kg of BSFL dried production was 6.687 kg CO 2 eq; 0.029 kg SO 2-eq; 0.092 kg N-eq; 16.732 MJ surplus; 121.231 CTUe. Production of prepupa had the highest hotspots in these emissions, followed dried BSFL production. Conclusions: Efforts to reduce environmental impacts that can be done are by implementing an integrated rearing system using substrate from a single type of known substrate for BSFL and using alternative drying methods for BSFL dried production.

BACKGROUND: Cross-sectional area (CSA) measurement of the ulnar nerve in the adult population by using ultrasonography (US) at elbow extension and flexion has previously been reported, but not much evidence showed a significant difference between elbow extension and flexion position. PURPOSE: To compare the ulnar nerve CSA between elbow extension and flexion position. METHODS: A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted by involving 36 healthy adults with normally functioning ulnar nerve proven by Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) or Electroneurography. The ulnar nerve CSA was measured on each elbow by using US at the level of the medial epicondyle, 2 cm distal and 2 cm proximal from the medial epicondyle. RESULTS: The average ulnar nerve CSA at the medial epicondyle, 2 cm distal and proximal to the medial epicondyle at elbow extension respectively were 5.95 ±â€¯0.74 mm2, 6.27 ±â€¯0.92 mm2, and 5.92 ±â€¯0.73 mm2. At elbow flexion, the average ulnar nerve CSA at the positions was 5.70 ±â€¯0.83 mm2, 5.23 ±â€¯0.87 mm2, dan 5.73 ±â€¯0.71 mm2 respectively. The CSA of the ulnar nerve at elbow extension was significantly larger compared to the flexion position in the three areas observed in this study (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The CSA of the ulnar nerve at elbow extension position was larger compared to the flexion position. Elbow position should be considered in measuring CSA of the ulnar nerve.

We surveyed Bornean white-bearded gibbon, Hylobates albibarbis, population densities in lowland and hill dipterocarp forests within the Sari Bumi Kusama and Suka Jaya Makmur logging concessions. These surveys were conducted from 20 to 30 March 2018 in Sari Bumi Kusuma areas and 14 to 24 April 2018 in Suka Jaya Makmur. We used a fixed-point count method to detect and plot morning song bouts of gibbon groups at systematically placed listening posts. At each location in Sari Bumi Kusuma and Suka Jaya Makmur, 18 listening posts were established, and 2 observers noted and plotted gibbon morning great calls. Gibbon group density was higher at Suka Jaya Makmur than at Sari Bumi Kusuma; we estimated that there were 2.29 groups per square kilometre in the former area and 1.86 groups/km2 in the latter. Since Bornean white-bearded gibbons are strictly protected by the Government of Indonesia and listed as an Endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), we need better management practices to protect the populations of this species within production forests (outside protected areas).
