RESUMO

To better understand the correlation between molecular structure and optical properties such as aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and mechanochromic luminescence (MCL) emission, two new pyrene-based derivatives with substitutions at the 4- and 5-positions (1HH) and at the 4-, 5-, 9-, and 10-positions (2HH) were designed and synthesized. Cyano groups were introduced at the periphery of the synthesized compounds (1HCN, 1OCN, 1BCN, 2HCN, 2OCN, and 2BCN) to investigate the influence of these groups on the emission properties of the pyrene derivatives both in solution and in the solid state. The fluorescence emission performance of these compounds in water/acetone mixtures was simultaneously studied, revealing outstanding aggregation-induced emission properties. The typical shift in emission maxima to higher values was attributed to J-aggregate formation in the aggregate state. Careful investigation of the crystal structures demonstrated abundant and intense intermolecular interactions, such as C-H…π and C-H…N hydrogen bonds, contributing to the remarkable mechanochromic luminescence performance of these compounds. The MCL properties of all the compounds were investigated using powder X-ray diffraction, and the remarkable mechanochromic properties were attributed to J-aggregate phenomena in the solid state. These results provide valuable insights into the structure-property relationship of organic MCL materials, guiding the design of efficient organic MCL materials.

This paper presents a resource-saving system to extract a few important features of electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. In addition, real-time classifiers are proposed as well to classify different types of arrhythmias via these features. The proposed feature extraction system is based on two delta-sigma modulators adopting 250 Hz sampling rate and three wave detection algorithms to analyze outputs of the modulators. It extracts essential details of each heartbeat, and the details are encoded into 68 bits data that is only 1.48% of the other comparable methods. To evaluate our classification, we use a novel patient-specific training protocol in conjunction with the MIT-BIH database and the recommendation of the AAMI to train the classifiers. The classifiers are random forests that are designed to recognize two major types of arrhythmias. They are supraventricular ectopic beats (SVEB) and ventricular ectopic beats (VEB). The performance of the arrhythmia classification reaches to the F1 scores of 81.05% for SVEB and 97.07% for VEB, which are also comparable to the state-of-the-art methods. The method provides a reliable and accurate approach to analyze ECG signals. Additionally, it also possesses time-efficient, low-complexity, and low-memory-usage advantages. Benefiting from these advantages, the method can be applied to practical ECG applications, especially wearable healthcare devices and implanted medical devices, for wave detection and arrhythmia classification.

To understand the structure-function relationships of a truncated Bacillus sp. strain TS-23 alpha-amylase, each of His-137, His-191, His-239, His-269, His-305, His-323, His-361, His-436, and His-475 was replaced with leucine. The molecular masses of the purified wild-type and mutant enzymes were approximately 54 kDa. The specific activity of His323Leu and His436Leu was decreased by more than 52%, while His239Leu, His305Leu, and His475Leu showed activity similar to that of the wild-type enzyme. As compared with the wild-type enzyme, His323Leu and His436Leu exhibited a 62% decrease in the value of k(cat)/ K(m). Alterations in His-191, His-239, His-305, and His-475 did not cause a significant change in the K(m) or k(cat) values. At 70 degrees C, a decreased half-life was observed in His436Leu. These results indicate that His-137, His-269, and His-361 of Bacillus sp. strain TS-23 alpha-amylase are important for proper catalytic activity and that His-436 may contribute to the thermostability of the enzyme.
