RESUMO

Fringe projection profilometry is a widely used technique for 3D measurement due to its high accuracy and speed. However, the accuracy significantly decreases when measuring complex texture objects, especially in the junction of different colors. This paper analyzes the causes of errors resulting from complex textures and proposes a height compensation method to revise the error by employing a dual-projector structure. Moreover, the dual-projector is capable of acquiring a pair of errors with opposite signs, which can be utilized to calculate the accurate 3D information after determining the ratio of this pair of errors. Experiments provide significant improvement in measuring complex texture objects, demonstrating the proposed method's ability.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The prognostic impact of left atrial appendage (LAA) patency, including those with and without visible peri-device leak (PDL), post-LAA closure in patients with atrial fibrillation, remains elusive. METHODS: Patients with atrial fibrillation implanted with the WATCHMAN 2.5 device were prospectively enrolled. The device surveillance by cardiac computed tomography angiography was performed at 3 months post-procedure. Adverse events, including stroke/transient ischemic attack (TIA), major bleeding, cardiovascular death, all-cause death, and the combined major adverse events (MAEs), were compared between patients with complete closure and LAA patency. RESULTS: Among 519 patients with cardiac computed tomography angiography surveillance at 3 months post-LAA closure, 271 (52.2%) showed complete closure, and LAA patency was detected in 248 (47.8%) patients, including 196 (37.8%) with visible PDL and 52 (10.0%) without visible PDL. During a median of 1193 (787-1543) days follow-up, the presence of LAA patency was associated with increased risks of stroke/TIA (adjusted hazard ratio for baseline differences, 3.22 [95% CI, 1.17-8.83]; P=0.023) and MAEs (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.12 [95% CI, 1.06-1.17]; P=0.003). Specifically, LAA patency with visible PDL was associated with increased risks of stroke/TIA (hazard ratio, 3.66 [95% CI, 1.29-10.42]; P=0.015) and MAEs (hazard ratio, 3.71 [95% CI, 1.71-8.07]; P=0.001), although LAA patency without visible PDL showed higher risks of MAEs (hazard ratio, 3.59 [95% CI, 1.28-10.09]; P=0.015). Incidences of stroke/TIA (2.8% versus 3.0% versus 6.7% versus 22.2%; P=0.010), cardiovascular death (0.9% versus 0% versus 1.7% versus 11.1%; P=0.005), and MAEs (4.6% versus 9.0% versus 11.7% versus 22.2%; P=0.017) increased with larger PDL (0, >0 to ≤3, >3 to ≤5, or >5 mm). Older age and discontinuing antiplatelet therapy at 6 months were independent predictors of stroke/TIA and MAEs in patients with LAA patency. CONCLUSIONS: LAA patency detected by cardiac computed tomography angiography at 3 months post-LAA closure is associated with unfavorable prognosis in patients with atrial fibrillation implanted with WATCHMAN 2.5 device. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The residual device patency (RDP) after left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) with the LACbes device has not been specifically explored in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. This study aims to explore the incidence, impact and predictors of RDP detected by cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) post LAAC. METHODS: AF patients implanted with the LACbes device were prospectively enrolled. CCTA device surveillance was performed at 3 months post-procedure. Major adverse events (MAEs), including stroke/transient ischemic attack, major bleeding and all-cause death, were evaluated. RESULTS: Among 141 patients with CCTA surveillance, 56 (39.7%) showed no visible leak and 85 (60.3%) showed RDP. During the median follow-up of 443 [232, 706] days, the presence of RDP was not associated with an increased risk of MAEs (adjusted hazard ratio [HR]: 4.07, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.49-34.24, p = 0.196), while peri-device leak (PDL) at the lobe was associated with heightened risks of MAEs (adjusted HR: 6.85, 95% CI: 1.62-28.89, p = 0.009). In patients with PDL at the lobe, antiplatelet after 6 months (HR: 0.20, 95% CI: 0.05-0.91, p = 0.038) was independent protective predictor of MAEs. Besides, current smoking (odds ratio [OR]: 7.52, 95% CI: 2.68-21.08, p < 0.001) and maximum diameter of LAA orifice (OR: 1.16, 95% CI: 1.00-1.34, p = 0.048) were independent predictors of PDL at the lobe. CONCLUSIONS: Presence of PDL at the device lobe detected by CCTA at 3-month post LAAC with LACbes is associated with unfavorable prognosis in AF patients. RESUMO

Left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) proved to be noninferior to oral anticoagulation (OAC) in nonablated patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of LAAC with those of OAC therapy in patients after AF ablation. This study included patients who underwent catheter ablation (CA) of AF between January 2016 and December 2020. The cohort was divided into CA + LAAC and CA + OAC, where propensity score matching was used to select controls, and each group contained 682 subjects. The enrolled patients' mean age was 70.34 ± 8.32 years, and 47.3% were female; their CHA2DS2-VASc score was 3.48 ± 1.17. Baseline characteristics were similar between groups. After a 3-year mean follow-up, the incidence of thromboembolic events was 1.25 and 1.10 and that of major bleeding events was 0.65 and 1.72 per 100 patient-years in the CA + LAAC, and CA + OAC groups, respectively. The rate of thromboembolisms and major adverse cardiovascular events was similar between the 2 groups (hazard ratio [HR] 1.162, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.665 to 2.030, p = 0.598, HR 0.711, 95% CI 0.502 to 1.005, p = 0.053); however, that of major bleeding and all-cause death was significantly reduced with LAAC (HR 0.401, 95% CI 0.216 to 0.746, p = 0.004, HR 0.528, 95% CI 0.281 to 0.989, p = 0.046). There was no significant difference in periprocedural complications (p >0.05) and the rate of AF recurrence (OAC vs LAAC: 39.44% vs 40.62%, p = 0.658). LAAC is a reasonable and safer alternative to OAC therapy in high-risk patients after AF ablation.

RESUMO

This study evaluated the dewatering of excess sludge and the removal of extracellular antibiotic-resistant genes (eARGs) from the treated filtrate by thermal-alkaline pretreatment (TAP) and thermal/persulfate (PS). The optimization of TAP and thermal/PS was investigated during excess sludge dewatering and removal of eARGs via response surface methodology (RSM). The results demonstrated that TAP could effectively decrease the water content of excess sludge (41%) at optimum operating conditions (such as temperature: 88 °C, operation time: 90 min, pH: 11.2). However, the increase in eARGs abundance in TAP-treated filtrate is probably due to the dissolved effluent of the intracellular matter during dewatering. Therefore, TAP-treated filtrate was subjected to thermal/PS, and the removal of eARGs after TAP was explored. The desirability function was used to optimize two kinds of removal efficiencies of eARGs, simultaneously. The optimal pH, persulfate concentration, and reaction temperature were 10.2, 0.039 M, and 75.12 °C, respectively. 6.28 log·copies/mL of tetA and 6.57 log·copies/mL of sulI were removed under the above-mentioned conditions. The process provided efficient dewatering of excess sludge and elimination of eARGs from the filtrate.

RESUMO

Antibiotics have strong antibacterial activity, even trace antibiotics can greatly inhibit the pollutant degradation efficiency. In order to effectively improve the pollutant degradation efficiency, it was hence of great significance to explore sulfapyridine (SPY) degradation and the mechanism of antibacterial activity. This study selected SPY as the research object, of which the trend of SPY concentration through hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), potassium peroxydisulfate (PDS) and sodium percarbonate (SPC) and resultant antibacterial activity at pre-oxidation was examined. The combined antibacterial activity (CAA) of SPY and its transformation products (TPs) was further analyzed. The SPY degradation efficiency reached more than 90 %. However, the degradation efficiency of antibacterial activity was between 40-60 %, and the mixture's antibacterial activity was difficult to be removed. The antibacterial activity of TP3, TP6 and TP7 was higher than that of SPY. TP1, and TP8 and TP10 were more prone to synergistic reaction with other TPs. The antibacterial activity of binary mixture gradually changed from synergism to antagonism as binary mixture concentration increased. The results provided a theoretical basis for the efficient degradation of antibacterial activity of the SPY mixture solution.

RESUMO

The fimbrin protein family contains a variety of proteins, among which Plastin1 (PLS1) is an important member. According to recent studies, variations in the coding region of the PLS1 gene are associated with the development of deafness. However, the molecular mechanism of deafness caused by PLS1 gene variants remains unknown. Whole-exome sequencing was performed on hearing-impaired family members and hearing family members to identify pathogenic variants, followed by Sanger sequencing. A minigene assay was conducted to investigate the effect of the variant on PLS1 mRNA splicing. The pathogenicity of the variant was further investigated in zebrafish. RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) was performed to analyze the dysregulation of downstream signaling pathways caused by knockdown of PLS1 expression. We identified a novel variant, PLS1 c.981+1G>A, in a large Chinese family with hearing loss and showed that the variant is responsible for the occurrence of hearing loss by inducing exon 8 skipping. The variant caused abnormal inner ear phenotypes, characterized by decreases in the mean otolith distance, anterior otolith diameter, posterior otolith diameter, cochlear diameter, and swimming speed and distance in zebrafish. Furthermore, silencing PLS1 expression significantly upregulated the expression of genes in the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, including Col6a3, Spp1, Itgb3 and hepatocyte growth factor (Hgf). PLS1 c.981+1G>A is a novel pathogenic variant causing hearing loss by inducing exon 8 skipping. Upregulation of the expression of genes in the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway plays an important role in the pathogenesis caused by variants in the PLS1 gene.

RESUMO

Passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) materials, that strongly reflect sunlight and emit thermal radiation to outer space, demonstrate great potential in energy-saving for sustainable development. Particularly, polymer-based PDRC materials, with advantages of easy-processing, low cost, and outstanding cooling performance, have attracted intense attention. However, just like other polymer devices (for example polymer solar cells) working under sunlight, the issue of durability related to mechanical and UV properties needs to be addressed for large-scale practical applications. Here, a spider-silk-inspired design of nanocomposite polymers with potassium titanate (K2 Ti6 O13 ) nanofiber dopants is proposed for enhancing the durability without compromising their cooling performance. The formed tough interface of nanofiber/polymer effectively disperses stress, enhancing the mechanical properties of the polymer matrix; while the K2 Ti6 O13 can absorb high-energy UV photons and transform them into less harmful heat, thereby improving the UV stabilities. Taking poly(ethylene oxide) radiative cooler as an example for demonstration, its Young's modulus and UV resistance increase by 7 and 12 times, respectively. Consequently, the solar reflectance of nanocomposite poly(ethylene oxide) is maintained as constant in a continuous aging test for 720 h under outdoor sunlight. The work provides a general strategy to simultaneously enhance both the mechanical stability and the UV durability of polymer-based PDRC materials toward large-scale applications.

RESUMO

Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are important sources of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in aquatic environments. Mobile genetic elements (MGEs) and microbial communities are key factors that affect the proliferation of ARGs. To reveal the effects of WWTPs effluent discharge on the ARGs and microbial community in a coastal area, the structure and distribution of ARGs, MGEs, and microbial community in Shangyu (SY) and Jiaxing (JX) effluent receiving areas (ERAs) and the offshore area of Hangzhou Bay (HB) were investigated via high-throughput quantitative PCR and 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing. The results showed that multidrug resistance genes were the most abundant ARGs across all the sampling sites. The diversity and abundance of ARGs and MGEs in the ERAs were much higher than those in the HB. Additionally, the diversities of the microbial community in the JX-ERA were higher than those in the SY-ERA and HB. PCoA showed that the distribution of ARGs, MGEs, and microbial communities in the ERAs and HB were significantly different, indicating that the long-term wastewater discharge could alter the distribution of ARGs, MGEs, and microbial communities in the coastal area. The co-occurrence pattern among ARGs, MGEs, and microbial communities revealed that 12 bacterial genera, such as Psychrobacter, Pseudomonas, Sulfitobacter, Pseudoalteromonas, and Bacillus, showed strong positive correlations with ARGs and MGEs. Most potential hosts carried multidrug and ß-lactamase resistance genes.

RESUMO

Radiative cooling and evaporative cooling with low carbon footprint are regarded as promising passive cooling strategies. However, the intrinsic limits of continuous water supply with complex systems for evaporative cooling, and restricted cooling power as well as the strict requirement of weather conditions for radiative cooling, hinder the scale of their practical applications. Here, we propose a tandem passive cooler composed of bilayer polymer that enables dual-functional passive cooling of radiation and evaporation. Specifically, the high reflectivity to sunlight and mid-infrared emissivity of this polymer film allows excellent radiative cooling performance, and its good atmospheric water harvesting property of underlayer ensures self-supply of water and high evaporative cooling power. Consequently, this tandem passive cooler overcomes the fundamental difficulties of radiative cooling and evaporative cooling and shows the applicability under various conditions of weather/climate. It is expected that this design can expand the practical application domain of passive cooling.

RESUMO

Microbial communities are responsible for biological treatment of many industrial wastewater, but our knowledge of their diversity, assembly patterns, and function is still poor. Here, we analyzed the bacterial communities of wastewater and activated sludge samples taken from 11 full-scale industrial wastewater treatment plants (IWWTPs) characterized by the same process design but different wastewater types and WWTP compartments. We found significantly different diversity and compositions of bacterial assemblages among distinct wastewater types and IWWTPs compartments. IWWTPs bacterial communities exhibited a clear species abundance distribution. The dispersal-driven process was weak in shaping IWWTP communities. Meanwhile, environmental and operating conditions were important factors in regulating the structure of the activated sludge community and pollutants removal, indicating that bacterial community was largely driven by deterministic mechanisms. The core microbial community in IWWTPs was different from that in municipal wastewater treatment plants (MWWTPs), and many taxa (e.g. the genus Citreitalea) rarely were detected before, indicating IWWTPs harbored unique core bacterial communities. Furthermore, we found that bacterial community compositions were strongly linked to activated sludge function. These findings are important to both microbial ecologists and environmental engineers, who may optimize the operation strategies jointly for maintaining biodiversity, which in turn may promote a more stable performance of the IWWTP. Overall, our study enhances the mechanistic understanding of the IWWTP microbial community diversity, assembly patterns, and function, and provides important implications for microbial ecology and wastewater treatment processes.

RESUMO

This study aimed to explore the effect of Gegen Qinlian Decoction(GQD) on the methylation and mRNA expression level of stearoyl CoA desaturase(SCD) gene in the adipose tissue of rats with insulin resistance(IR) induced by high-fat diet as well as the correlations between methylation and physiological and biochemical indicators. The animals were divided into seven groups, namely, blank control(C) group, IR model group, low-(1.65 g·kg~(-1)), medium-(4.95 g·kg~(-1)), and high(14.85 g·kg~(-1))-dose GQD(GQDL, GQDM, and GQDH) groups, rosiglitazone(RGN, 5 mg·kg~(-1)) group, and simvastatin(SVT, 10 mg·kg~(-1)) group. The rat epididymal adipose tissue was collected for detecting all the cytosine methylation levels in two fragments of Scd1 gene by bisulfite sequencing PCR(BSP). Scd1-1 was located in CG shores and Scd1-2 in CG islands, including the transcriptional start site(TSS). The Scd1 mRNA level was determined by quantitative real-time PCR(q-PCR). Spearman correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlations between amplified fragment C methylation and physiological and biochemical indicators. The results showed that GQDM remarkably reversed the elevated CG7 methylation in the TSS upstream region of Scd1-2 triggered by high-fat diet. GQDL significantly reversed the lowered total CG methylation in the downstream region of Scd1-2 induced by the high-fat diet. GQD did not significantly improve the decreased Scd1 mRNA expression caused by high-fat diet. Changes in methylation of the total CG, CG5 and CT11 of Scd1-1 in CG shores exhibited significant negative correlations with the serum triglyceride(TG) but positive correlation with the Scd1 mRNA level. The methylation of several C sites in the TSS upstream region of Scd1-2 was positively correlated with physiological and biochemical parameters. The methylation of several CG sites in the TSS downstream region of Scd1-2 was negatively associated with physiological and biochemical parameters. Besides, the methylation of several CH sites in the downstream fragment was positively correlated with physiological and biochemical parameters. All these have demonstrated that GQD may exert the therapeutic effect by regulating the methylation of CG7 in the TSS upstream region and total CG site in the TSS downstream region of Scd1 gene. The methylation of total CG, CG5 and CT11 sites in CG shores of Scd1 gene may be important targets for regulating Scd1 mRNA level and affecting serum TG.

RESUMO

Complete separation of water and solute is the ultimate goal of water treatment, for maximized resource recycling. However, commercialized approaches such as evaporative crystallizers consume a large amount of electricity with a significant carbon footprint, leading to calls for alternative energy-efficient and eco-friendly strategies. Here, inspired by schooling fish, we demonstrate a collective system self-assembled by expanded polystyrene (EPS)-core/graphene oxide (GO)-shell particles, which enables autonomous, efficient and complete water-solute separation powered by sunlight. By taking advantage of surface tension, these tailored particles school together naturally and are bonded as a system to function collectively and coordinatively, to nucleate, grow and output salt crystals continuously and automatically out of even saturated brine, to complete water-solute separation. Solar-vapor conversion efficiency over 90% and salt production rate as high as 0.39 kg m-2 h-1 are achieved under 1-sun illumination for this system. It reduces the carbon footprint of ∼50 kg for treating 1-ton saturated brine compared with the commercialized approaches.

RESUMO

Fringe projection profilometry (FPP) is one of the most widely used 3D reconstruction techniques. A higher-resolution fringe pattern produces a more detailed and accurate 3D point cloud, which is critical for 3D sensing. However, there is no effective way to achieve FPP super-resolution except by using greater hardware. Therefore, this Letter proposes a dual-dense block super-resolution network (DdBSRN) to extend the fringe resolution and reconstruct a high-definition 3D shape. Especially, a novel dual-dense block structure is designed and embedded into a multi-path structure to fully utilize the local layers and fuse multiple discrete sinusoidal signals. Furthermore, a fully functional DdBSRN can be obtained even when training with a smaller data sample. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed DdBSRN method is stable and robust, and that it outperforms standard interpolation methods in terms of accuracy and 3D details.

RESUMO

Antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) are highly concerning emerging polltants. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are considered to be one of the most important anthropogenic sources of antibiotics and ARGs in the environment. Six WWTPs of a city were selected to investigate the antibiotics and ARGs in the influents and effluents, respectively. In total, 73 kinds antibiotics belonging to 7 classes were detected in WWTPs. The total concentration of those antibiotics ranged between 490.2-2288.6 ng·L-1, and ofloxacin, maprofloxacin, and roxithromycin were the most frequently detected antibiotics in the influents. A dramtic difference was observed in the antibiotic removal efficiency among the WWTPs, and the total antibiotic concentration in the effluents ranged between 260.2-1464.3 ng·L-1. Macrolides and quinolones are the main classes in the effluents, and the antibiotic concentration in the effluents was higher than that in the influents. Ten kinds of ARGs were detected in the WWTPs. Among these, sul Ⅰ was the most widely prevalent with an absolute abundance of 2.4×105-5.4×106 copies·mL-1. No significant difference in ARG abundance was observed between industrial wastewater and domesic wastewater. Furthermore, the correlation between ARG abundance and antibiotic concentrations weakened after treatment in the WWTPs.

RESUMO

Lymphoma is a systemic malignancy, originating from the lymphatic system, which accounts for 3 to 4% of all tumors. There are two major subtypes of lymphoma, namely, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL). Elucidation of the pathogenesis of these two lymphoma types is crucial for the identification of potential therapeutic targets. Compared with the corresponding knowledge of other diseases, the understanding of the regulatory networks involved in DLBCL and HL is relatively deficient. To address this, we comprehensively analyzed the mRNAs, lncRNAs, and miRNAs that were differentially expressed between normal and tumor samples of DLBCL and HL. In addition, functional enrichment analysis of the differentially expressed mRNAs was performed. We constructed two specific ceRNA networks of DLBCL and HL. The pathways enriched by dysregulated mRNAs in DLBCL and HL were mainly involved in immune responses, transcription process, and metabolism process. The ceRNA network analysis revealed that 45 ceRNAs were shared between the two ceRNA networks, including five pivotal lncRNAs (MALAT1, CTBP1-AS, THUMPD3-AS, PSMA3-AS1, and NUTM2A-AS1). In addition, we proposed a DLBCL survival risk model based on a DLBCL-specific network constructed by Lasso regression analysis. The model, which is based on eight mRNAs, exhibited excellent performance in regard to predicting outcomes in DLBCL patients, with a p value of 0.0017 and AUC of 0.9783. In summary, although the molecular mechanisms underlying tumorigenesis in DLBCL and HL were quite different, the same pivotal lncRNAs acted as key regulators. Our findings identify novel potential prognostic and therapeutic targets for DLBCL and HL.

RESUMO

Therapeutic antibodies are one of the most important parts of the pharmaceutical industry. They are widely used in treating various diseases such as autoimmune diseases, cancer, inflammation, and infectious diseases. Their development process however is often brought to a standstill or takes a longer time and is then more expensive due to their hydrophobicity problems. Hydrophobic interactions can cause problems on half-life, drug administration, and immunogenicity at all stages of antibody drug development. Some of the most widely accepted and used technologies for determining the hydrophobic interactions of antibodies include standup monolayer adsorption chromatography (SMAC), salt-gradient affinity-capture self-interaction nanoparticle spectroscopy (SGAC-SINS), and hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC). However, to measure SMAC, SGAC-SINS, and HIC for hundreds of antibody drug candidates is time-consuming and costly. To save time and money, a predictor called SSH is developed. Based on the antibody's sequence only, it can predict the hydrophobic interactions of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs).
