RESUMO

Glioblastoma is the most common cancer in the brain, resistant to conventional therapy and prone to recurrence. Therefore, it is crucial to explore novel therapeutics strategies for the treatment and prognosis of GBM. In this study, through analyzing online datasets, we elucidated the expression and prognostic value of POLR2J and its co-expressed genes in GBM patients. Functional experiments, including assays for cell apoptosis and cell migration, were used to explore the effects of POLR2J and vorinostat on the proliferation and migration of GBM cells. The highest overexpression of POLR2J, among all cancer types, was observed in GBM. Furthermore, high expression of POLR2J or its co-expressed genes predicted a poor outcome in GBM patients. DNA replication pathways were significantly enriched in the GBM clinical samples with high POLR2J expression, and POLR2J suppression inhibited proliferation and triggered cell cycle G1/S phase arrest in GBM cells. Moreover, POLR2J silencing activated the unfolded protein response (UPR) and significantly enhanced the anti-GBM activity of vorinostat by suppressing cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis. Additionally, POLR2J could interact with STAT3 to promote the metastatic potential of GBM cells. Our study identifies POLR2J as a novel oncogene in GBM progression and provides a promising strategy for the chemotherapeutic treatment of GBM.

Refraction is a basic beam bending effect at two media's interface. While traditional studies focus on stationary boundaries, moving boundaries or potentials could enable new laws of refractions. Meanwhile, media's discretization plays a pivotal role in refraction owing to Galilean invariance breaking principle in discrete-wave mechanics, making refraction highly moving-speed dependent. Here, by harnessing a synthetic temporal lattice in a fiber-loop circuit, we observe discrete time refraction by a moving gauge-potential barrier. We unveil the selection rules for the potential moving speed, which can only take an integer v = 1 or fractional v = 1/q (odd q) value to guarantee a well-defined refraction. We observe reflectionless/reflective refractions for v = 1 and v = 1/3 speeds, transparent potentials with vanishing refraction/reflection, refraction of dynamic moving potential and refraction for relativistic Zitterbewegung effect. Our findings may feature applications in versatile time control and measurement for optical communications and signal processing.

Driver fatigue represents a significant peril to global traffic safety, necessitating the advancement of potent fatigue monitoring methodologies to bolster road safety. This research introduces a conditional generative adversarial network with a classification head that integrates convolutional and attention mechanisms (CA-ACGAN) designed for the precise identification of fatigue driving states through the analysis of electroencephalography (EEG) signals. First, this study constructed a 4D feature data model capable of mirroring drivers' fatigue state, meticulously analyzing the EEG signals' frequency, spatial, and temporal dimensions. Following this, we present the CA-ACGAN framework, a novel integration of attention schemes, the bottleneck residual block, and the Transformer element. This integration was designed to refine the processing of EEG signals significantly. In utilizing a conditional generative adversarial network equipped with a classification header, the framework aims to distinguish fatigue states effectively. Moreover, it addresses the scarcity of authentic data through the generation of superior-quality synthetic data. Empirical outcomes illustrate that the CA-ACGAN model surpasses various extant methods in the fatigue detection endeavor on the SEED-VIG public dataset. Moreover, juxtaposed with leading-edge GAN models, our model exhibits an efficacy in in producing high-quality data that is clearly superior. This investigation confirms the CA-ACGAN model's utility in fatigue driving identification and suggests fresh perspectives for deep learning applications in time series data generation and processing.

Current human health risk assessments of soil arsenic (As) contamination rarely consider bioaccessibility (IVBA), which may overestimate the health risks of soil As. The IVBA of As (As-IVBA) may differ among various soil types. This investigation of As-IVBA focused As from geological origin in a typical subtropical soil, lateritic red soil, and its risk control values. The study used the SBRC gastric phase in vitro digestion method and As speciation sequential extraction based upon phosphorus speciation extraction method. Two construction land sites (CH and HD sites) in the Pearl River Delta region were surveyed. The results revealed a high content of residual As (including scorodite, mansfieldite, orpiment, realgar, and aluminum arsenite) in the lateritic red soils at both sites (CH: 84.9%, HD: 91.7%). The content of adsorbed aluminum arsenate (CH: 3.24%, HD: 0.228%), adsorbed ferrum arsenate (CH: 8.55%, HD: 5.01%), and calcium arsenate (CH: 7.33%, HD: 3.01%) were found to be low. The bioaccessible As content was significantly positively correlated with the As content in adsorbed aluminum arsenate, adsorbed ferrum arsenate, and calcium arsenate. A small portion of these sequential extractable As speciation could be absorbed by the human body (CH: 14.9%, HD: 3.16%), posing a certain health risk. Adsorbed aluminum arsenate had the highest IVBA, followed by calcium arsenate, and adsorbed ferrum arsenate had the lowest IVBA. The aforementioned speciation characteristics of As from geological origin in lateritic red soil contributed to its lower IVBA compared to other soils. The oxidation state of As did not significantly affect As-IVBA. Based on As-IVBA, the carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks of soil As in the CH and HD sites decreased greatly in human health risk assessment. The results suggest that As-IVBA in lateritic red soil should be considered when assessing human health risks on construction land.

Although sulfur cycling in acid mine drainage (AMD)-contaminated rice paddy soils is critical to understanding and mitigating the environmental consequences of AMD, potential sources and transformations of organosulfur compounds in such soils are poorly understood. We used sulfur K-edge X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy to quantify organosulfur compounds in paddy soils from five AMD-contaminated sites and one AMD-uncontaminated reference site near the Dabaoshan sulfide mining area in South China. We also determined the sulfur stable isotope compositions of water-soluble sulfate (δ34SWS), adsorbed sulfate (δ34SAS), fulvic acid sulfur (δ34SFAS), and humic acid sulfur (δ34SHAS) in these samples. Organosulfate was the dominant functional group in humic acid sulfur (HAS) in both AMD-contaminated (46%) and AMD-uncontaminated paddy soils (42%). Thiol/organic monosulfide contributed a significantly lower proportion of HAS in AMD-contaminated paddy soils (8%) compared to that in AMD-uncontaminated paddy soils (21%). Within contaminated soils, the concentration of thiol/organic monosulfide was positively correlated with cation exchange capacity (CEC), moisture content (MC), and total Fe (TFe). δ34SFAS ranged from -6.3 to 2.7‰, similar to δ34SWS (-6.9 to 8.9‰), indicating that fulvic acid sulfur (FAS) was mainly derived from biogenic S-bearing organic compounds produced by assimilatory sulfate reduction. δ34SHAS (-11.0 to -1.6‰) were more negative compared to δ34SWS, indicating that dissimilatory sulfate reduction and abiotic sulfurization of organic matter were the main processes in the formation of HAS.

BACKGROUND: The alveolar epithelial type II cell (AT2) and its senescence play a pivotal role in alveolar damage and pulmonary fibrosis. Cell circadian rhythm is strongly associated with cell senescence. Differentiated embryonic chondrocyte expressed gene 1 (DEC1) is a very important circadian clock gene. However, the role of DEC1 in AT2 senescence and pulmonary fibrosis was still unclear. RESULTS: In this study, a circadian disruption model of light intervention was used. It was found that circadian disruption exacerbated pulmonary fibrosis in mice. To understand the underlying mechanism, DEC1 levels were investigated. Results showed that DEC1 levels increased in lung tissues of IPF patients and in bleomycin-induced mouse fibrotic lungs. In vitro study revealed that bleomycin and TGF-ß1 increased the expressions of DEC1, collagen-I, and fibronectin in AT2 cells. Inhibition of DEC1 mitigated bleomycin-induced fibrotic changes in vitro and in vivo. After that, cell senescence was observed in bleomycin-treated AT2 cells and mouse models, but these were prevented by DEC1 inhibition. At last, p21 was confirmed having circadian rhythm followed DEC1 in normal conditions. But bleomycin disrupted the circadian rhythm and increased DEC1 which promoted p21 expression, increased p21 mediated AT2 senescence and pulmonary fibrosis. CONCLUSIONS: Taken together, circadian clock protein DEC1 mediated pulmonary fibrosis via p21 and cell senescence in alveolar epithelial type II cells.

Objective: We explored the correlation between the presence of isocitrate dehydrogenase-1 (IDH1) mutations and the incidence of postoperative epilepsy in patients with glioblastoma, as well as assessed the efficacy of preemptive administration of antiepileptic medications in mitigating the occurrence of postoperative epilepsy. Methods: Fifty-three patients who received a postoperative pathological diagnosis of glioblastoma, were enrolled in this study. Tumor specimens were subjected to IDH1 gene analysis. The patient cohort was stratified based on their IDH1 mutation status and the administration of prophylactic antiepileptic drugs during the postoperative phase. We subsequently conducted a comparative analysis of postoperative epileptic complications within each patient subgroup. Results: In the cohort of 53 patients under study, the occurrence of epilepsy was observed in 10 out of 21 patients carrying IDH1 mutations, while 5 out of 32 patients with wild-type IDH1 also experienced epilepsy, revealing a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). Among the 27 patients who received prophylactic antiepileptic drugs, 6 of them developed epilepsy, whereas 9 out of 26 patients who did not receive prophylactic antiepileptic drugs exhibited concurrent epilepsy, with no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05). However, when performing a subgroup analysis, it was found that 3 out of 12 patients with IDH1 mutations who received prophylactic antiepileptic drugs experienced epilepsy, whereas 7 out of 9 patients who did not receive prophylactic antiepileptic drugs developed epilepsy, demonstrating a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). Furthermore, within the group of 15 patients with wild-type IDH1, 3 patients who received prophylactic antiepileptic drugs developed epilepsy, while 2 cases of epilepsy occurred among the 17 patients who did not receive prophylactic antiepileptic drugs, with no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05). Conclusion: In individuals with IDH1 mutant glioblastoma who have undergone surgical resection, the implementation of preventive antiepileptic therapy demonstrates a potential to diminish the occurrence of postoperative epilepsy.

Formation of granulation tissue is a fundamental phase in periodontal wound healing with subsequent maturation leading to regeneration or repair. However, persistently inflamed granulation tissue presents in osseous defects as a result of periodontitis and is routinely disrupted and discarded with non-surgical and surgical therapy to facilitate wound healing or improve chances of regeneration. Histological assessment suggests that granulation tissue from periodontitis-affected sites is effectively a chronic inflammatory tissue resulting from impaired wound healing due to persistence of bacterial dysbiotic bioflim. Nevertheless, the immunomodulatory potential and stem cell characteristics in granulation tissue have also raised speculation about the tissue's regenerative potential. This has led to the conception and recent implementation of surgical techniques which preserve granulation tissue with the intention of enhancing innate regenerative potential and improve clinical outcomes. As knowledge of fundamental cellular and molecular functions regulating periodontitis-affected granulation tissue is still scarce, this review aimed to provide a summary of current understanding of granulation tissue in the context of periodontal wound healing. This may provide new insights into clinical practice related to the management of granulation tissue and stimulate further investigation.

Micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) technology is an effective method to treat low-concentration heavy metal wastewater. However, the leakage of surfactants in the ultrafiltration (UF) process will inevitably cause secondary pollution. In this study, a biosurfactant of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) with conjugated double bonds was selected to bind its micelles by simple thermal crosslinking to obtain morphologically stable stearic acid (SA) nanoparticles. The pure SA nanoparticles were obtained by repeated dialysis. The stability of the SA nanoparticles was verified by comparing the particle size distribution and solubility of the materials before and after crosslinking at different pH levels. The effectiveness of SA nanoparticle-enhanced UF in removing heavy metals was verified by exploring the adsorption performance of SA nanoparticles. The dialysis device was used to simplify the UF device, wherein SA nanoparticles were assessed as adsorbents for the elimination of Cu2+, Pb2+, and Cd2+ ions from aqueous solutions under diverse process parameters, including pH, contact time, metal ion concentration, and coexisting ions. The findings indicate that the SA nanoparticles have no evidence of secondary contamination in UF and exhibit compatibility with a broad pH range and coexisting ions. The maximum adsorption capacities for Cu2+, Pb2+, and Cd2+ were determined to be 152.77, 403.56, and 271.46 mg/g, respectively.

Annulus fibrosus (AF) defect is an important cause of disc re-herniation after discectomy. The self-regeneration ability of the AF is limited, and AF repair is always hindered by the inflammatory microenvironment after injury. Hydrogels represent one of the most promising materials for AF tissue engineering strategies. However, currently available commercial hydrogels cannot withstand the harsh mechanical load within intervertebral disc. In the present study, an innovative triple cross-linked oxidized hyaluronic acid (OHA)-dopamine (DA)- polyacrylamide (PAM) composite hydrogel, modified with collagen mimetic peptide (CMP) and supplied with transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-ß1) (OHA-DA-PAM/CMP/TGF-ß1 hydrogel) was developed for AF regeneration. The hydrogel exhibited robust mechanical strength, strong bioadhesion, and significant self-healing capabilities. Modified with collagen mimetic peptide, the hydrogel exhibited extracellular-matrix-mimicking properties and sustained the AF cell phenotype. The sustained release of TGF-ß1 from the hydrogel was pivotal in recruiting AF cells and promoting extracellular matrix production. Furthermore, the composite hydrogel attenuated LPS-induced inflammatory response and promote ECM synthesis in AF cells via suppressing NFκB/NLRP3 pathway. In vivo, the composite hydrogel successfully sealed AF defects and alleviated intervertebral disk degeneration in a rat tail AF defect model. Histological evaluation showed that the hydrogel integrated well with host tissue and facilitated AF repair. The strategy of recruiting endogenous cells and providing an extracellular-matrix-mimicking and anti-inflammatory microenvironment using the mechanically tough composite OHA-DA-PAM/CMP/TGF-ß1 hydrogel may be applicable for AF defect repair in the clinic. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: Annulus fibrosus (AF) repair is challenging due to its limited self-regenerative capacity and post-injury inflammation. In this study, a mechanically tough and highly bioadhesive triple cross-linked composite hydrogel, modified with collagen mimetic peptide (CMP) and supplemented with transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-ß1), was developed to facilitate AF regeneration. The sustained release of TGF-ß1 enhanced AF cell recruitment, while both TGF-ß1 and CMP could modulate the microenvironment to promote AF cell proliferation and ECM synthesis. In vivo, this composite hydrogel effectively promoted the AF repair and mitigated the intervertebral disc degeneration. This research indicates the clinical potential of the OHA-DA-PAM/CMP/TGF-ß1 composite hydrogel for repairing AF defects.

BACKGROUND: According to the literatures, triacanthine is isolated from the leaves of Gleditsia triacanthos L. and acts as an anti-hypertensive agent, also cardiotonic, antispasmodic and a respiratory analeptic. The 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is widely used to treat the patients of colorectal cancer (CRC), but the resistance to 5-FU treatment restricts the therapeutic efficacy of CRC patients. PURPOSE: This study aims to explore a novel therapeutics regimen overcoming CRC resistance to 5-FU. METHODS: The cell proliferation of CRC cells was determined by SRB and colony formation assay. Transwell and wound-healing assay were applied to explore the potential metastatic abilities of CRC cells. qRT-PCR and Western blot were performed to evaluate the level of indicated mRNAs and proteins respectively. Xenograft assay was used to explore the anti-CRC effect of triacanthine. RESULTS: Triacanthine statistically restrained CRC proliferation both in vitro and in vivo. Triacanthine induced cell cycle G1/G0 phase arrest in CRC cells. Meanwhile, triacanthine also inhibited the migrative and invasive abilities of CRC cells. A Venn diagram was generated showing that O-6-Methylguanine-DNA Methyltransferase (MGMT) might be a molecular target of triacanthine in treating CRC. Furthermore, triacanthine plus 5-FU significantly suppressed the cell proliferation of CRC cells compared with single agent treatment alone, and highly synergistic anti-cancer effects were scored when 5-FU was combined with triacanthine in CRC cells. In addition, triacanthine sensitized the anti-cancer activity of 5-FU via regulating Ribonucleotide Reductase Regulatory Subunit M2 (RRM2). MGMT or RRM2 might be novel biomarkers for evaluating the therapeutical efficiency of 5-FU in CRC patients. CONCLUSION: We firstly demonstrated triacanthine suppressed cell proliferation and metastasis abilities and found the novel molecular targets of triacanthine in CRC cells. This is the first study to evaluate the anti-cancer efficiency of triacanthine plus 5-FU. Our study has revealed triacanthine as a pertinent sensitizer to 5-FU, and provided novel strategies for predicting outcomes and reversing resistance of 5-FU therapy.

Protein degradation techniques, such as proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTACs) and lysosome-targeting chimeras (LYTACs), have emerged as promising therapeutic strategies for the treatment of diseases. However, the efficacy of current protein degradation methods still needs to be improved to address the complex mechanisms underlying diseases. Herein, a LYTAC Plus hydrogel engineered is proposed by nucleic acid self-assembly, which integrates a gene silencing motif into a LYTAC construct to enhance its therapeutic potential. As a proof-of-concept study, vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR)-binding peptides and mannose-6 phosphate (M6P) moieties into a self-assembled nucleic acid hydrogel are introduced, enabling its LYTAC capability. Small interference RNAs (siRNAs) is then employed that target the angiopoietin-2 (ANG-2) gene as cross-linkers for hydrogel formation, giving the final LYTAC Plus hydrogel gene silencing ability. With dual functionalities, the LYTAC Plus hydrogel demonstrated effectiveness in simultaneously reducing the levels of VEGFR-2 and ANG-2 both in vitro and in vivo, as well as in improving therapeutic outcomes in treating neovascular age-related macular degeneration in a mouse model. As a general material platform, the LYTAC Plus hydrogel may possess great potential for the treatment of various diseases and warrant further investigation.

High temperature is the most important environmental factor limiting potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) yield. The tuber yield has been used to evaluate the heat tolerance of some potato cultivars, but potato yield was closely correlated with the maturation period. Therefore, it is necessary to employ different parameters to comprehensively analyze and evaluate potato tolerance to heat stress. This study aimed to investigate physiologic changes during growth and development, and develop accurate heat tolerance evaluation methods of potato cultivars under heat stress. About 93 cultivars (including foreign elite lines, local landraces and cultivars) were screened using an in vitro tuber-inducing system (continuous darkness and 8% sucrose in the culture medium) under heat stress (30 °C) and normal (22 °C) conditions for 30 days. The tuber yield and number decreased significantly under heat stress compared to the control. A total of 42 cultivars were initially selected depending on tuber formation, after in vitro screening, further testing of selected cultivars was conducted in ex vitro conditions. The screened cultivars were further exposed to heat stress (35 °C/28 °C, day/night) for 60 days. Heat stress led to an increase in the plant height growth rate, fourth internode growth rate, and membrane damage, and due to heat-induced damage to chloroplasts, decrease in chlorophyll biosynthesis and photosynthetic efficiency. Three principal components were extracted by principal component analysis. Correlation and regression analysis showed that heat tolerance is positively correlated with the plant height growth rate, fourth internode growth rate, the content of chlorophyll b, photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, tuber number, and tuber yield, and negatively correlated with the cell membrane injury level. The nine traits are accurate and representative indicators for evaluating potato tolerance to heat stress and could determine a relatively high mean forecast accuracy of 100.0% for the comprehensive evaluation value. Through cluster analysis and screening, cultivar FA, D73, and C132 had the highest heat comprehensive evaluation value, which could be further selected as heat-resistant varieties. This study provides insights into the different physiological mechanisms and accurate evaluation methods of potato cultivars under heat stress, which could be valuable for further research and breeding.

PURPOSE: To explore the long-term course of patients with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), and to analyse potential factors affecting the recovery of meibomian gland (MG) dropout. METHODS: Seventy-nine MGD patients (79 eyes) aged 36.03±15.78 years old who underwent more than one year of follow-up were enrolled in this retrospective study. Corneal fluorescein staining (CFS), tear meniscus height (TMH), noninvasive breakup time (NIBUT), and noncontact meibography at baseline and last visit were collected and analysed. Then an automatic MG analyzer was used to measure the morphological and functional parameters of MGs, including their area ratio (AR), tortuosity index (TI), and signal index (SI). The patients whose AR increased by more than 5% were defined as MG improvement, and AR decreased by more than 5% was MG worsening. RESULTS: A total of 79 patients (79 eyes) were assessed with at least 1-year of follow-up. More than 1/3 of MGD patients (27 eyes, 34.2%) underwent MG improvement, and 30.4% of MGs became worsened. Age (P=0.002), gender (P<0.001), IPL treatment (P=0.013), the change of CFS (P=0.0015), and the recovery of SI (P=0.035) showed significant differences among different recovery groups. Age(P<0.001), female sex (P=0.003), ΔCFS (P<0.001), AR at baseline (P<0.001) were negative correlation with AR recovery, and the change of SI (P=0.003) and IPL treatment (P=0.003) had a positive correlation with it. Among them, age (P=0.038), the change of CFS (P=0.004), and AR at baseline (P=0.007) were confirmed as negatively correlated factors predicting the long-term change of the MG. CONCLUSION: Although the MGD treatment has continued for more than 1 year, only 34.2% of MGD patients were observed to undergo MG improvement. Younger patients and patients with better CFS recovery seem to have more opportunities to improve their MGs.

West Nile virus (WNV), an arthropod-borne flavivirus, can cause severe symptoms, including encephalitis, and death, posing a threat to public health and the economy. However, there is still no approved treatment or vaccine available for humans. Here, we developed a novel vaccine platform based on a classical insect-specific flavivirus (cISF) YN15-283-02, which was derived from Culicoides. The cISF-WNV chimera was constructed by replacing prME structural genes of the infectious YN15-283-02 cDNA clone with those of WNV and successfully rescued in Aedes albopictus cells. cISF-WNV was nonreplicable in vertebrate cells and nonpathogenic in type I interferon receptor (IFNAR)-deficient mice. A single-dose immunization of cISF-WNV elicited considerable Th1-biased antibody responses in C57BL/6 mice, which was sufficient to offer complete protection against lethal WNV challenge with no symptoms. Our studies demonstrated the potential of the insect-specific cISF-WNV as a prophylactic vaccine candidate to prevent infection with WNV.

In order to build a global community of health for all, it is necessary to deeply understand the influencing factors of cross-cultural communication between medical professionals and patients. Factors such as different health beliefs, cultural values and communication mediators influence cross-cultural communication between medical professionals and patients, and then affect the medical satisfaction and treatment compliance. Medical education should adopt the learning concept of constructivism, advocate maintaining a humble cultural attitude, incorporate more patient perspectives and adopt cross-cultural teaching mode to improve the cross-cultural communication competence of medical students and medical staff, so as to establish a relationship based on communication and understanding.

Despite global vaccination efforts, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) continues to evolve and spread globally. Currently, the development of affordable vaccine against Omicron variant of concern (VOC) is necessary. Here, we assessed the safety and immunogenicity of a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine consisting of a live Newcastle disease virus vector expressing the spike (S) protein of Omicron BA.1 administrated intranasally (IN) or intramuscularly (IM) in Golden Syrian hamster model. Immunogenicity studies showed that the prime-boost regimen elicited high antibody titers and the modified S antigen (Sm-F) could induce robust antibody response in low dosage immunization through IN route. Sera of the immunized hamsters provided effective cross-neutralizing activity against different Omicron variants, the prototype and delta strains of SARS-CoV-2. Moreover, the vaccine could provide complete immunoprotection in hamsters against the Omicron BA.1 challenge by either intranasal or intramuscular immunization. Overall, our study provides an alternative nasal vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variants.

New classes arise frequently in our ever-changing world, e.g., emerging topics in social media and new types of products in e-commerce. A model should recognize new classes and meanwhile maintain discriminability over old classes. Under severe circumstances, only limited novel instances are available to incrementally update the model. The task of recognizing few-shot new classes without forgetting old classes is called few-shot class-incremental learning (FSCIL). In this work, we propose a new paradigm for FSCIL based on meta-learning by LearnIng Multi-phase Incremental Tasks (Limit), which synthesizes fake FSCIL tasks from the base dataset. The data format of fake tasks is consistent with the 'real' incremental tasks, and we can build a generalizable feature space for the unseen tasks through meta-learning. Besides, Limit also constructs a calibration module based on transformer, which calibrates the old class classifiers and new class prototypes into the same scale and fills in the semantic gap. The calibration module also adaptively contextualizes the instance-specific embedding with a set-to-set function. Limit efficiently adapts to new classes and meanwhile resists forgetting over old classes. Experiments on three benchmark datasets (CIFAR100, miniImageNet, and CUB200) and large-scale dataset, i.e., ImageNet ILSVRC2012 validate that Limit achieves state-of-the-art performance.
