RESUMO

Herein, we report the syntheses and electronic structures of crystalline dianionic as well as neutral diboron-centered classical diradicaloids as boron analogues of classical Thiele, Chichibabin, and Müller (this only for dianionic diradicaloids!) hydrocarbons. These are based on borane radical anion and NHC-stabilized boryl radical spin carriers, respectively. All these dianionic diboron-centered diradicaloids exhibit triplet population at room temperature regardless of the π-conjugated spacer: p-phenylene, p,p'-biphenylene, or p,p″-terphenylene. In the case of neutral diboron-centered diradicaloids, the employed π-conjugated spacer plays a crucial role for the triplet population at room temperature: EPR inactive for p-phenylene vs EPR active for p,p'-biphenylene. The findings emphasize the importance of the spin carriers for the resulting ground-state: borane radical anion vs NHC-stabilized boryl radical along with the pivotal role of the π-conjugated spacer as spin-coupler between two spins. Notably, 100 years (a century) after the first report by Krause of the triphenyl borane radical-anion, being isoelectronic to the triphenylmethyl radical, we convey borane radical anion-based diradicaloids. Furthermore, while donor-stabilized boryl radicals were introduced in the 1980s by Giles and Roberts, said concept is herewith being extended to NHC-stabilized boryl radical-based diradicaloids.

RESUMO

The biofilm formation is still prevalent mechanism of developing the drug resistance in the Pseudomonas aeruginosa, gram-negative bacteria, known for its major role in nosocomial, ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), lung infections and catheter-associated urinary tract infections. As best of our knowledge, current study first time reports the most potent inhibitors of LasR, a transcriptional activator of biofilm and virulence regulating genes in, Pseudomonas aeruginosa LasR, utilizing newly functionalized imidazoles (5a-d), synthesized via 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition using click approach. The synthesized ligands were characterized through Mass Spectrometry and 1H NMR. The binding potency and mode of biding of ligands. Quantum Mechanical(QM) methods were utilized to investigate the electronic basis, HOMO/LUMO and dipole moment of the geometry of the ligands for their binding potency. Dynamics cross correlation matrix (DCCMs) and protein surface analysis were further utilized to explore the structural dynamics of the protein. Free energy of binding of ligands and protein were further estimated using Molecular Mechanical Energies with the Poisson-Boltzmann surface area (MMPBSA) method. Molecular Docking studies revealed significant negative binding energies (5a - 10.33, 5b -10.09, 5c - 10.11, and 5d -8.33 KJ/mol). HOMO/LUMO and potential energy surface map estimation showed the ligands(5a) with lower energy gaps and larger dipole moments had relatively larger binding potency. The significant change in the structural dynamics of LasR protein due to complex formation with newlyfunctionalized imidazoles ligands. Hydrogen bond surface analysis followed by MMPBSA calculations of free energy of binding further complemented the Molecular docking revelations showing the specifically ligand (5a) having the relatively higher energy of binding(-65.22kj/mol).Communicated by Ramaswamy H. RESUMO

We report the first examples of intramolecular phosphine-stabilized tetra-coordinated germanium(iv) di-cationic compounds: [LiPr2Ge][CF3SO3]23iPr and [LPh2Ge][CF3SO3]23Ph (LiPr = 6-(diisopropylphosphanyl)-1,2-dihydroacenaphthylene-5-ide; LPh = 6-(diphenylphosphanyl)-1,2-dihydroacenaphthylene-5-ide). The step wise synthetic strategy involves the isolation of neutral and mono-cationic Ge(iv) precursors: [LiPr2GeCl][X] (X = GeCl31iPr, OTf 2iPr), [LPh2GeCl2] 1Ph and [LPh2GeCl][OTf] 2Ph. Both 3iPr and 3Ph exhibit constrained spiro-geometry. DFT studies reveal the dispersion of di-cationic charges over P-Ge-P sites. Anion or Lewis base binding occurs at the Ge site resulting in relaxed distorted trigonal bipyramidal/tetrahedral geometry. 3iPr and 3Ph activate the Si-H bond initially at the P-site. The hydride ultimately migrates to the Ge-site rapidly giving [LPh2GeH][CF3SO3] 3PhH, while sluggishly forming [LiPr2GeH][CF3SO3] 3iPrH. Compounds 3iPr and 3Ph were tested as catalysts for the hydrosilylation of aromatic aldehydes. While catalytic hydrosilylation proceeded via the initial Et3Si-H bond activation in the case of 3iPr, compound 3Ph as a catalyst showed a masked Frustrated Lewis Pair (FLP) type reactivity in the catalytic cycle.

RESUMO

Bis(alpha-iminopyridine) L has been employed as the redox non-innocent Schiff-base ligand to coordinate with cationic antimony(III) and bismuth(III) centers. Mono- and di- cationic compounds: [LSbCl2 ][CF3 SO3 ] 1, [LBiCl2 ][CF3 SO3 ] 2, [LSbCl2 ]2 [Sb2 Cl8 ] 3, [LBiCl2 ]2 [Bi2 Cl8 ] 4, [LSbCl][CF3 SO3 ]2 5, [LBiCl][CF3 SO3 ]2 6 have been isolated and characterized using single crystal X-ray crystallography in the solid-state and solution-state NMR studies. These compounds have been prepared from PnCl3 (Pn=Sb, Bi) and chloride abstracting agent such as Me3 SiCF3 SO3 or AgCF3 SO3 in the presence of L. The Bi tri-cationic species forms heteroleptic compound 7, being coordinated by two types of Schiff-base donors L and L'. The latter has been in situ generated by the cleavage of one of the two imines present in L.

RESUMO

A recent article by Pan and Frenking challenges our assignment of the oxidation state of low valent group 2 compounds. With this reply, we show that our assignment of Be(+2) and Mg(+2) oxidation states in Be(cAACDip)2 and Mg(cAACDip)2 is fully consistent with our data. Some of the arguments exposed by Pan and Frenking were based on visual inspection of our figures, rather than a thorough numerical analysis. We discuss with numerical proof that some of the statements made by the authors concerning our reported data are erroneous. In addition, we provide further evidence that the criterion of the lowest orbital interaction energy in the energy decomposition analysis (EDA) method is unsuitable as a general tool to assess the valence state of the fragments. Other indicators based on natural orbitals for chemical valence (NOCV) deliver a more reliable bonding picture. We also emphasize the importance of using stable wavefunctions for any kind of analysis, including EDA.

RESUMO

Herein we report the development of a new methodology for the synthesis of various quinodimethane derivatives under two-electron oxidation of bis-N-heterocyclic olefins linked by different π-conjugated aromatic spacers. In case of para- and ortho-phenylene bridge, we obtained air and moisture stable diimidazolium para- and ortho-quinodimethane derivatives. Analogues of the para-phenylene spacer such as tetrafluoro-p-phenylene and p-anthracene also led to the corresponding air and moisture stable quinodimethane derivatives. This emphasizes the influence of imidazolium substituents which facilitate the air and moisture stability of the quinodimethane derivatives. Differences were observed for the electron transfer processes: two one-electron vs one two-electron redox transitions between bis-N-heterocyclic olefins and diimidazolium-quinodimethanes depending on the employed π-conjugated aromatic spacer. The formation of the π-conjugated radical-cations, transient redox intermediates between bis-N-heterocyclic olefins and diimidazolium-quinodimethanes, was addressed by an EPR investigation.

RESUMO

Herein, a new type of carbodicarbene (CDC) comprising two different classes of carbenes is reported; NHC and CAAC as donor substituents and compare the molecular structure and coordination to Au(I)Cl to those of NHC-only and CAAC-only analogues. The conjugate acids of these three CDCs exhibit notable redox properties. Their reactions with [NO][SbF6 ] were investigated. The reduction of the conjugate acid of CAAC-only based CDC with KC8 results in the formation of hydrogen abstracted/eliminated products, which proceed through a neutral radical intermediate, detected by EPR spectroscopy. In contrast, the reduction of conjugate acids of NHC-only and NHC/CAAC based CDCs led to intermolecular reductive (reversible) carbon-carbon sigma bond formation. The resulting relatively elongated carbon-carbon sigma bonds were found to be readily oxidized. They were, thus, demonstrated to be potent reducing agents, underlining their potential utility as organic electron donors and n-dopants in organic semiconductor molecules.

RESUMO

Low-valent group 2 (E = Be and Mg) stabilized compounds have been long synthetically pursued. Here we discuss the electronic structure of a series of Lewis base-stabilized Be and Mg compounds. Despite the accepted zero(0) oxidation state nature of the group 2 elements of some recent experimentally accomplished species, the analysis of multireference wavefunctions provides compelling evidence for a strong diradical character with an oxidation state of +2. Thus, we elaborate on the distinction between a description as a donor-acceptor interaction L(0) ⇆ E(0) ⇄ L(0) and the internally oxidized situation, better interpreted as a diradical L(-1) → E(+2) ← L(-1) species. The experimentally accomplished examples rely on the strengthened bonds by increasing the π-acidity of the ligand; avoiding this interaction could lead to an unprecedented low-oxidation state.

RESUMO

Herein we report secondary pyrrolidin-2-ols as a source of cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbenes (CAAC) for the synthesis of CAAC-CuI -complexes and cyclic thiones when reacted with CuI -salts and elemental sulfur, respectively, under reductive elimination of water from the carbon(IV)-center. This result demonstrates a convenient and facile access to CAAC-based CuI -salts, which are well known catalysts for different organic transformations. It further establishes secondary alcohols to be a viable source of carbenes-realizing after 185 years Dumas' dream who tried to prepare the parent carbene (CH2 ) by 1,1-dehydration of methanol. Addressed is also the reactivity of water towards CAACs, which proceeds through an oxidative addition of the O-H bond to the carbon(II)-center. This emphasizes the ability of carbon-compounds to mimic the reactivity of transition-metal complexes: reversible oxidative addition and reductive elimination of the O-H bond to/from the C(II)/C(IV)-centre.

RESUMO

Herein, we disclose cyclic(alkyl)(amino)carbenes (CAACs) to be one-electron reductants under the formation of a transient radical cation as indicated by EPR spectroscopy. The disclosed CAAC reducing reactivity was used to synthesize acyclic(amino)(aryl)carbene-based Thiele and Chichibabin hydrocarbons, a new class of Kekulé diradicaloids. The results demonstrate CAACs to be potent organic reductants. Notably, the acyclic(amino)(aryl)carbene-based Chichibabin's hydrocarbon shows an appreciable population of the triplet state at room temperature, as evidenced by both variable-temperature NMR and EPR spectroscopy.

RESUMO

Upon stabilization by 5,6-bis(diisopropylphosphino)acenaphthene to form compound 1, the fugitive antimony (I) cation exhibited nucleophilic behavior towards coinage metals. Compound 1 was strategically synthesized at room temperature from SbCl3 , the bis(phosphine), and trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate taken in a 1:2:3 ratio, whereby the bis(phosphine) plays the dual role of a reductant and a supporting ligand. The generation of 1 involves two-electron oxidation of the ligand to form a P-P bonded diphosphonium dication. Compound 1 was separated from this dication to give both products in pure form in moderate yields. Despite the overall positive charge, the SbI site in 1 was found to bind to metal centers, forming complexes with AuI , AgI and CuI . Compound 1 reduced CuII to CuI and formed a coordination complex with the resulting CuI species. The effects of the electron-rich bis(phosphine) and the constrained peri geometry in stabilizing and enhancing the nucleophilicity of 1 have been rationalized through computational studies.

RESUMO

Herein, we report the synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of α,α'-diamino-p-tetrafluoroquinodimethane, a p-tetrafluorophenylene-bridged monosubstituted carbene-based Thiele's hydrocarbon A. The compound exhibits a reversible two-step one-electron oxidation with a marginally stable radical cation state B. The in situ formation of the radical cation could be confirmed by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. Interestingly, α,α'-diamino-p-tetrafluoroquinodimethane fixates atmospheric oxygen to form a 16-membered peroxide-bridged macrocyclic compound C.

RESUMO

We report the reactivity of isolable Au(i)-hydride stabilized by an NHC-coordinated diphosphene towards substrates containing C-C and N-N multiple bonds (NHC = N-heterocyclcic carbene). Reactions with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate and azobenzene lead to a trans-addition of the Au(i)-H across the C-C triple bond and the N-N double bond, respectively. In contrast, the reaction with ethyl diazoacetate affords a gold(i)-hydrazonide as the 1,1-addition product to the terminal nitrogen atom. With phenyl acetylene, the corresponding Au(i)-alkynyl complex is obtained under the elimination of dihydrogen. Strikingly, diphosphene-containing Au(i)-hydride is more reactive - affording different products in some cases - than a related NHC-stabilized Au(i)-hydride without the mediating diphosphene moiety.

RESUMO

Herein, we report the rational design, synthesis, and characterization of α,α'-diamino-substituted-p-quinodimethanes, which are a group of partially substituted p-quinodimethanes. These exhibit two reversible one-electron redox steps and electrochromism in the ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared regions. We were able to isolate the crystalline compounds of all three oxidation states: neutral, radical cation, and dication. The obtained results not only create the bridge between p-quinodimethane and α,α,α',α'-tetrasubstituted-p-quinodimethane, but also demonstrate the straightforward modular approach for the synthesis of π-conjugated open-shell compounds.

RESUMO

Main group analogues of cyclobutane-1,3-diyls are fascinating due to their unique reactivity and electronic properties. So far only heteronuclear examples have been isolated. Here we report the isolation and characterization of all-silicon 1,3-cyclobutanediyls as stable closed-shell singlet species from the reversible reactions of cyclotrisilene c-Si3 Tip4 (Tip=2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl) with the N-heterocyclic silylenes c-[(CR2 CH2 )(NtBu)2 ]Si: (R=H or methyl) with saturated backbones. At elevated temperatures, tetrasilacyclobutenes are obtained from these equilibrium mixtures. The corresponding reaction with the unsaturated N-heterocyclic silylene c-(CH)2 (NtBu)2 Si: proceeds directly to the corresponding tetrasilacyclobutene without detection of the assumed 1,3-cyclobutanediyl intermediate.

RESUMO

Diphosphene TerMesP = PTerMes (1; TerMes = 2,6-Mes2C6H3; Mes = 2,4,6-Me3C6H2) and NHCMe42 (NHCMe4 = 1,3,4,5-tetramethylimidazol-2-ylidene) exist in an equilibrium mixture with the NHCMe4 -coordinated diphosphene 3. While uncoordinated 1 is inert to hydrolysis, the NHC adduct 3 readily undergoes hydrolysis to afford a phosphino-substituted phosphine oxide with the liberation of NHCMe4 . On this basis, conditions suitable for the catalytic use of NHCMe4 were identified. Similarly, while the hydrogenation of free diphosphene 1 with H3N·BH3 is very slow, 3 reacts instantaneously with H3N·BH3 at room temperature to afford a dihydrodiphosphane.

RESUMO

NHC-stabilized 2-hydrophosphasilenes are obtained from 1,2-dihydro-2-chlorophosphasilanes as Si(iv) precursors by a NHC-assisted 1,2-elimination of HCl. The NHC-exchange of these compounds is demonstrated as a proof of donor acceptor bonding between NHC and the silicon centre of the "Si[double bond, length as m-dash]P" moiety. We have also explored the possibility of similar exchanges in NHC-stabilized Si2 and P2 compounds. Theoretical DFT calculations were performed to address the nature of Si-P bonding in the NHC-stabilized 2-hydrophosphasilenes.

RESUMO

An isolable NHC-coordinated disilenyl germylene R2Si═SiR-GePh·NHCiPr2Me2 (5b: R = 2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl, NHCiPr2Me2 = 1,3-diisopropyl-4,5-dimethylimidazol-2-ylidene) is obtained from the reaction of the α-chloro silyl functionalized heavier vinylidene analogue R2(Cl)Si-RSi═Ge·NHCiPr2Me2 with phenyllithium. The disilenyl germylene 5b isomerizes at 40 °C to the NHC-adduct of the corresponding heavier cyclopropylidene analogue 6b. Both 5b and 6b display near perfect regiodiscrimination in their reactions with phenylacetylene and xylyl isocyanide, affording in the case of each reagent two different regioisomers of NHC-coordinated cyclic germylenes. DFT calculations reveal that the Si═Si bond accounts for the high reactivity of 5b even at low temperature while in the case of cyclic 6b the low-valent germanium center requires a considerable thermal activation.
