RESUMO

Feature matching for 3D point clouds is a fundamental yet challenging problem in remote sensing and 3D computer vision. However, due to a number of nuisances, the initial feature correspondences generated by matching local keypoint descriptors may contain many outliers (incorrect correspondences). To remove outliers, this paper presents a robust method called progressive consistency voting (PCV). PCV aims at assigning a reliable confidence score to each correspondence such that reasonable correspondences can be achieved by simply finding top-scored ones. To compute the confidence score, we suggest fully utilizing the geometric consistency cue between correspondences and propose a voting-based scheme. In addition, we progressively mine convincing voters from the initial correspondence set and optimize the scoring result by considering top-scored correspondences at the last iteration. Experiments on several standard datasets verify that PCV outperforms five state-of-the-art methods under almost all tested conditions and is robust to noise, data decimation, clutter, occlusion, and data modality change. We also apply PCV to point cloud registration and show that it can significantly improve the registration performance.

RESUMO

Cardioprotective medication is the common treatment to relieve myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. However, limited by the low bioavailability of therapeutic drugs, the therapeutic outcome is barely satisfactory. Because the I/R injury can enhance the permeability of the vasculature and allow the extravasation of nanoparticles into the surrounding tissue, herein we formulate the cardiotonic drug olprinone (Olp) in cross-linked micelles as the nanomedicine to achieve myocardium-targeted delivery after systematic administration. As a result, the local concentration of Olp in the injured myocardium is raised by orders of magnitude with prolonged drug duration time. The treatment successfully preserves the pumping efficiency of the heart, alleviates ventricular remodeling, and thus stops the positive feedback loop for the deteriorated cardiac function. Consequently, the myocardium-targeted nanomedicine significantly salvages the heart from I/R injury before irreversible pathological changes take place.

RESUMO

Microbial trimethylamine (TMA)-lyase activity promotes the development of atherosclerosis by generating of TMA, the precursor of TMA N-oxide (TMAO). TMAO is well documented, but same can not be said of TMA-producing bacteria. This work aimed to identify TMA-producing genera in human intestinal microbiota. We retrieved the genomes of human-associated microorganisms from the Human Microbiome Project database comprising 1751 genomes, Unified Human Gastrointestinal Genome collection consisting 4644 gut prokaryotes, recapitulated 4930 species-level genome bins and public gut metagenomic data of 2134 individuals from 11 populations. By sequence searching, 216 TMA-lyase-containing species from 102 genera were found to contain the homologous sequences of cntA/B, yeaW/X, and/or cutC/D. We identified 13 strains from 5 genera with cntA sequences, and 30 strains from 14 genera with cutC showing detectable relative abundance in healthy individuals. Lachnoclostridium (p = 2.9e-05) and Clostridium (p = 5.8e-04), the two most abundant cutC-containing genera, were found to be much higher in atherosclerotic patients compared with healthy persons. Upon incubation with choline (substrate), L. saccharolyticum effectively transformed it to TMA at a rate higher than 98.7% while that for C. sporogenes was 63.8-67.5% as detected by liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. In vivo studies further showed that treatment of L. saccharolyticum and choline promoted a significant increase in TMAO level in the serum of ApoE-/- mice with obvious accumulation of aortic plaque in same. This study discloses the significance and efficiency of the gut bacterium L. saccharolyticum in transforming choline to TMA and consequently promoting the development of atherosclerosis.

RESUMO

The discrimination and quantification of the ingredients from natural medicines are a challenging issue due to their complicated and various structures. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown great promise in sensing applications. Here, we report a fluorescent sensor array for rapid identification of some natural compounds using a sensor array composed of four kinds of lanthanide (Eu3+ and Tb3+) fluorescent MOFs (Ln-MOFs), which have diversified fluorescent responses to 26 active/toxic compounds including 12 saponins, 7 flavonoids, 3 stilbenes, and 4 anthraquinones. The fluorescence of the Ln-MOFs after reaction with the compounds was summarized as datasets and processed by principle component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) methods. The corresponding responses of the 4 types of compounds are well separated on 2D/3D PCA score plots and HCA dendrograms. We have also tested typical blind samples by concentration-dependent PCA, and an accuracy of 100% was obtained. In addition, the response mechanisms of the Ln-MOFs to the compounds were also studied. Compared with traditional methods using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, the developed fluorescent sensor array provides a more efficient and economic strategy to discriminate various active/toxic ingredients in natural medicine.

RESUMO

Background: The role of surgery for stage II and III small cell lung cancer (SCLC) remains controversial. The use of prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) for resected SCLC was limited. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of surgery in patients with stage II and III SCLC, and evaluate the value of PCI on resected disease. Methods: A total of 269 consecutive patients with stage II-IIIA SCLC were retrospectively reviewed from January 2010 to December 2015. Of these, 116 patients received surgical resection, and 153 underwent non-surgical treatment. Resected patients were matched 1:1 with non-surgical patients (n=70 in each group). Results: The median follow-up was 30 months. The 1-, 3- and 5-year overall survival (OS) for matched patients were 80.0%, 44.3% and 31.7% in surgical group, and 80.0%, 24.3% and 20.0% in non-surgical group (P=0.009), respectively. Multivariate analysis in matched patients showed that surgery (HR=0.603, 95%CI: 0.404-0.900) and PCI (HR=0.637, 95%CI: 0.427-0.950) were independent prognostic factors for OS. In subgroup analysis, OS benefit related to surgery was marginal for stage II (P=0.09) and IIIA patients (P=0.061), but was significant for selected stage IIIA patients who received adjuvant chemo-radiation and PCI (P=0.01). PCI was associated with improved OS for non-surgical patients (P=0.036), and stage IIIA of surgical patients (P=0.047). Conclusions: These findings suggest a potential OS benefit of surgery in stages II and IIIA patients, particularly in selected stage IIIA patients who received adjuvant chemo-radiation and PCI. The use of PCI for surgical patients with stage IIIA was associated with improved OS.
