RESUMO

Multi-boron-embedded multiple resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) emitters show promise for achieving both high color-purity emission and high exciton utilization efficiency. However, their development is often impeded by a limited synthetic scope and excessive molecular weights, which challenge material acquisition and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) fabrication by vacuum deposition. Herein, we put forward a B‒N covalent bond-involved π-extension strategy via post-functionalization of MR frameworks, leading to the generation of high-order B/N-based motifs. The structurally and electronically extended π-system not only enhances molecular rigidity to narrow emission linewidth but also promotes reverse intersystem crossing to mitigate efficiency roll-off. As illustrated examples, ultra-narrowband sky-blue emitters (full-width at half-maximum as small as 8 nm in n-hexane) have been developed with multi-dimensional improvement in photophysical properties compared to their precursor emitters, which enables narrowband OLEDs with external quantum efficiencies (EQEmax) of up to 42.6%, in company with alleviated efficiency decline at high brightness, representing the best efficiency reported for single-host OLEDs. The success of these emitters highlights the effectiveness of our molecular design strategy for advanced MR-TADF emitters and confirms their extensive potential in high-performance optoelectronic devices.

RESUMO

Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters featuring through-space charge transfer (TSCT) can be excellent candidates for piezochromic luminescent (PCL) materials due to their structural dynamics. Spatial donor-acceptor (D-A) stacking arrangements enable the modulation of inter- and intramolecular D-A interactions, as well as spatial charge transfer states, under varying pressure conditions. Herein, we demonstrate an effective approach toward dynamic reversible full-color PCL materials with TSCT-TADF characteristics. Their single crystals exhibit a full-color-gamut PCL process spanning a range of 170 nm. Moreover, the TSCT-TADF-PCL emitters display a unity photoluminescence quantum yield, and show promising application in X-ray scintillator imaging.

RESUMO

The synergistic integration of a fine-tuned chiral donor with a hybrid long/short-range charge-transfer mechanism offers an accessible pathway to construct highly efficient circularly polarized emitters. Consequently, a notable dissymmetry factor of 1.6 × 10-3, concomitantly with a record-setting maximum external quantum efficiency of 37.4%, is synchronously realized within a single embodiment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Post-stroke depression (PSD) has major implications for rehabilitation, motor recovery, activities of daily living, social and interpersonal functioning, and mortality. In view of the side effects of antidepressants, aromatherapy, a widely used non-pharmacological therapy, has received growing attention in recent years for its benefits of reduced complications, accessibility, and effectiveness. This study was designed to assess the effects of inhalation aromatherapy with lavender essential oil on depression and sleep quality in patients with PSD. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty patients with PSD were enrolled and randomized into experimental and placebo groups. Experimental-group patients inhaled microencapsulated lavender essential oil every night at bedtime over a period of 4 weeks. A nonwoven bag containing 2.3 g of microcapsules with about 1.5 g of lavender essential oil was placed on or under the patient's pillow, depending on the patient's scent sensitivity. Placebo-group patients used the empty nonwoven bags for the same period as the experimental group. The 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17), the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were used to measure outcomes. RESULTS: The HAMD-17 score, SDS score, and PSQI score showed statistically significant differences between both groups before and after intervention (P ≤ 0.01). The improvement in the experimental group was more marked than in the placebo group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Lavender essential oil inhalation aromatherapy may help reduce depression and improve sleep quality in patients with PSD.

RESUMO

Helicenes exhibit substantial potential as circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) active molecules. However, their application in circularly polarized organic light-emitting diodes (CP-OLEDs) is typically hindered by the challenge of integrating both high color purity and efficient triplet-harvesting capability, particularly in the blue spectral region. Herein, a series of hetero[6]helicene-based emitters that is strategically engineered through the helical extension of a deep-blue double-boron-based multiple resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) motif, is introduced. Importantly, the helical extension does not cause apparent structural deformation or perturb frontier molecular orbitals; thus, preserving the deep-blue emission and MR-TADF characteristics of the parent molecule. This approach also leads to reduced reorganization energy, resulting in emitters with narrower linewidth and higher photoluminescence quantum yield. Further, the helical motif enhances the racemization barrier and leads to improved CPL performance with luminescence dissymmetry factor values up to 1.5 × 10-3 . Exploiting these merits, devices incorporating the chiral dopants demonstrate deep-blue emission within the Broadcast Service Television 2020 color-gamut range, record external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) up to 29.3%, and have distinctive circularly polarized electroluminescence (CPEL) signals. Overall, the authors' findings underscore the helical extension as a promising strategy for designing narrowband chiroptical materials and advancing high-definition displays.

RESUMO

Supramolecular polymers based on chiral macrocycles have attracted increasing attention in the field of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) owing to their unique properties. However, the construction of macrocyclic supramolecular polymers with highly efficient CPL properties in aggregate states still remains challenging. Herein, w e constructed a class of macrocycle-based coordination polymers by combining the planar chiral properties of pillar[5]arene with the excellent fluorescence properties of aggregation-induced emission luminogens. The formation of polymers enhances both the fluorescence and chiral properties, resulting in chiral supramolecular polymers with remarkable CPL properties. Increasing the aggregation degree of the polymers can further improve their CPL properties, as evidenced by a 21-fold increase in the dissymmetry factor and an over 25-fold increase in the fluorescence quantum yield in the aggregate state compared to the solution state. Such a synergistic effect of polymerization- and aggregation-enhanced CPL can be explained by the restriction of intramolecular motions and aggregation-induced conformation confinement. This work provides a promising method for developing highly efficient CPL supramolecular polymers.

RESUMO

Pure polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) consisting solely of carbon-hydrogen or carbon-carbon bonds offer great potential for constructing durable and cost-effective emitters in organic electroluminescence devices. However, achieving versatile fluorescence characteristics in pure PAHs remains a considerable challenge, particularly without the inclusion of heteroatoms. Herein, an efficient approach is presented that involves incorporating non-six-membered rings into classical pyrene isomerides, enabling simultaneous achievement of full-color emission, delayed fluorescence, and anti-Kasha emission. Theoretical calculations reveal that the intensity and distribution of aromaticity/anti-aromaticity in both ground and excited states play a crucial role in determining the excited levels and fluorescence yields. Transient fluorescence measurements confirm the existence of thermally activated delayed fluorescence in pure PAHs. By utilizing these PAHs as emitting layers, electroluminescent spectra covering the entire visible region along with a maximum external quantum efficiency of 9.1% can be achieved, leading to the most exceptional results among non-doped pure hydrocarbon-based devices.

RESUMO

The Manasi region is located in an arid and semi-arid region with fragile ecology and scarce resources. The land use change prediction is important for the management and optimization of land resources. We utilized Sankey diagram, dynamic degree of land use, and landscape indices to explore the temporal and spatial variation of land use and integrated the LSTM and MLP algorithms to predict land use prediction. The MLP-LSTM prediction model retains the spatiotemporal information of land use data to the greatest extent and extracts the spatiotemporal variation characteristics of each grid through a training set. Results showed that (1) from 1990 to 2020, cropland, tree cover, water bodies, and urban areas in the Manasi region increased by 855.3465 km2, 271.7136 km2, 40.0104 km2, and 109.2483 km2, respectively, whereas grassland and bare land decreased by 677.7243 km2 and 598.5945 km2, respectively; (2) Kappa coefficients reflect the accuracy of the mode's predictions in terms of quantity. The Kappa coefficients of the land use data predicted by the MLP-LSTM, MLP-ANN, LR, and CA-Markov models were calculated to be 95.58%, 93.36%, 89.48%, and 85.35%, respectively. It can be found that the MLP-LSTM and MLP-ANN models obtain higher accuracy in most levels, while the CA-Markov model has the lowest accuracy. (3) The landscape indices can reflect the spatial configuration characteristics of landscape (land use types), and evaluating the prediction results of land use models using landscape indices can reflect the prediction accuracy of the models in terms of spatial features. The results indicate that the model predicted by MLP-LSTM model conforms to the development trend of land use from 1990 to 2020 in terms of spatial features. This gives a basis for the study of the Manasi region to formulate relevant land use development and rationally allocate land resources.

RESUMO

Most multi-resonance (MR) induced thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters generally exhibit strong aggregation and relatively worse solubility due to their rigid and planar molecule structures, which is highly undesirable for solution-processible devices. Herein, a simple but feasible approach for solution-processible small-molecule MR-TADF emitters is developed by incorporating two MR-TADF units onto carbazole bridge bearing long alkyl chains. The obtained emitters demonstrate supreme film-forming capability and narrowband emissions with full-width at half-maximums (FWHMs) of 22 nm. The resulting solution-processed narrowband electroluminescent devices achieve maximum external quantum efficiency of 27.1 %, which represents the highest efficiency among the solution-processed OLEDs based on MR-TADF emitters. This simple approach reveals great potential of developing solution-processible emitters for rigid and planar molecular structures.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Food allergy affects up to 10% of the pediatric population. Despite ongoing efforts, treatment options remain limited. Novel models of food allergy are needed to study response patterns downstream of IgE-crosslinking and evaluate drugs modifying acute events. Here, we report a novel human ex vivo model that displays acute, allergen-specific, IgE-mediated smooth muscle contractions using precision cut intestinal slices (PCIS). METHODS: PCIS were generated using gut tissue samples from children who underwent clinically indicated surgery. Viability and metabolic activity were assessed from 0 to 24 h. Distribution of relevant cell subsets was confirmed using single nucleus RNA sequencing. PCIS were passively sensitized using plasma from peanut allergic donors or peanut-sensitized non-allergic donors, and exposed to various stimuli including serotonin, histamine, FcɛRI-crosslinker, and food allergens. Smooth muscle contractions and mediator release functioned as readouts. A novel program designed to measure contractions was developed to quantify responses. The ability to demonstrate the impact of antihistamines and immunomodulation from peanut oral immunotherapy (OIT) was assessed. RESULTS: PCIS viability was maintained for 24 h. Cellular distribution confirmed the presence of key cell subsets including mast cells. The video analysis tool reliably quantified responses to different stimulatory conditions. Smooth muscle contractions were allergen-specific and reflected the clinical phenotype of the plasma donor. Tryptase measurement confirmed IgE-dependent mast cell-derived mediator release. Antihistamines suppressed histamine-induced contraction and plasma from successful peanut OIT suppressed peanut-specific PCIS contraction. CONCLUSION: PCIS represent a novel human tissue-based model to study acute, IgE-mediated food allergy and pharmaceutical impacts on allergic responses in the gut.

RESUMO

Multiresonance thermal activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) materials with an efficient spin-flip transition between singlet and triplet excited states remain demanding. Herein, we report an MR-TADF compound (BN-Se) simultaneously possessing efficient (reverse) intersystem crossing (ISC/RISC), fast radiative decay, close-to-unity quantum yield, and narrowband emission by embedding a single selenium atom into a common 4,4'-diazaborin framework. Benefitting from the high RISC efficiency accelerated by the heavy-atom effect, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on BN-Se manifest excellent performance with an external quantum efficiency of up to 32.6% and an ultralow efficiency roll-off of 1.3% at 1000 cd m-2. Furthermore, the high ISC efficiency and small inherent energy loss also render BN-Se a superior photosensitizer to realize the first example of visible (λex > 450 nm)-to-UV (λem < 350 nm) triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion, with a high efficiency (21.4%) and an extremely low threshold intensity (1.3 mW cm-2). This work not only aids in designing advanced pure organic molecules with fast exciton dynamics but also highlights the value of MR-TADF compounds beyond OLED applications.

RESUMO

The practical use of luminescent mononuclear gold(I) complexes as optoelectronic materials has been limited by their inferior stability. Herein we demonstrate a strategy to improve the stability of gold(I) complexes which display thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). A highly rigid and groove-like σ-donating aryl ligand has been used to form dual Au⋅⋅⋅H-C hydrogen bonds. The secondary metal-ligand interactions have been authenticated by single-crystal structure, NMR spectroscopy and theoretical simulations. The TADF AuI complex exhibits appealing emission properties (photoluminescence quantum yield=76 %; delayed fluorescence lifetime=1.2 µs) and much improved thermal and photo-stability. Vacuum-deposited organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) show promising electroluminescence with a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) over 23 % and negligible efficiency roll-off even at 10 000 cd m-2 . An estimated LT50 longer than 77 000 h with initial luminance of 100 cd m-2 reveals good operational stability. This work suggests a way for design of stable luminescent gold(I) complexes.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Post-stroke depression (PSD) has an important impact on rehabilitation, motor recovery, daily activities, social and interpersonal life, and mortality. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of auricular acupressure (AurPrs) on depression in PSD patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-six PSD patients were recruited and randomly assigned to the AurPrs group (receiving AurPrs treatment) or the sham group (receiving sham AurPrs treatment). The outcome was measured by the 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17), Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), and World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQOL-BREF). RESULTS: There was a statistically significant difference in HAMD-17 score, SDS score and WHOQOL-BREF score between both groups before and after treatment (P < 0.01). The improvement of the AurPrs group was more obvious than that of the sham group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: AurPrs could help to reduce depression levels and improve the quality of life in patients with PSD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is one of the most prevalent human cancers worldwide. The homeobox-B (HOXB) gene cluster has been reported to contribute to cancer development. Nevertheless, the expression status, clinical significance and biological role of HOXB genes in LUAD remain largely unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS: This study comprehensively investigated the transcriptional levels and prognostic values of the HOXB genes in LUAD based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Flow cytometry, CCK-8, and Transwell assays were used for detecting apoptosis, proliferation, and migration, respectively. We discovered that eight members of the HOXB cluster genes (HOXB2, HOXB3, HOXB4, HOXB6, HOXB7, HOXB8, HOXB9, and HOXB13) were dysregulated in LUAD tumor tissues. Increased expression of HOXB3, HOXB6, HOXB7, HOXB8, or HOXB9 was independently associated with unsatisfactory overall survival (OS) in LUAD patients. In addition, a high level of HOXB3 also predicted poor patient relapse-free survival (RFS), suggesting that HOXB3 may play a vital role in the progression of LUAD compared to other members of the HOXB cluster. Additionally, further analysis by TIMER and TISIDB algorithms revealed that HOXB3 was positively correlated with a panel of immune checkpoint molecules (ICMs), tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), and tumor immune regulators (TIRs). Gene enrichment analysis based on KEGG showed that HOXB3 was closely associated with multiple tumor-related biological processes and signaling pathways. Functionally, the in vitro experiments revealed that depletion of HOXB3 significantly alleviated the resistance of LUAD cells to apoptosis, and suppressed cell proliferation and migration. CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that HOXB3 may play an oncogenic role in LUAD and correlate with tumor immunity.

RESUMO

G protein-coupled protein receptor CXC chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) has been shown to be involved in the development of sepsis; however, it remains unclear whether CXCR4 participates in the septic myocardial injury. In our study, treatment with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) increased the expression of specificity protein 1 (SP1) and CXCR4 in H9c2 cells. Notably, a positive association between SP1 and CXCR4 expression was observed in LPS-treated H9c2 cells, and SP1 positively regulated CXCR4 expression in H9c2 cells. Moreover, silencing of SP1 or CXCR4 suppressed LPS-induced inflammation and cell apoptosis in H9c2 cells, as evidenced by the increase in cell viability and decrease in lactate dehydrogenase release, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α levels, and caspase-3 activity. Additionally, overexpression of CXCR4 abolished the protective effects of SP1 silencing on LPS-induced injury in H9c2 cells. SP1 was also shown to enhance the promoter activity of CXCR4 by directly binding with the binding motif site - 109/-100 in CXCR4 promoter. Besides, downregulation of SP1 or CXCR4 blocked LPS-induced activation of the NF-кB signaling in H9c2 cells. Furthermore, inhibition of NF-кB signaling by DHMEQ abolished LPS-induced myocardial inflammation and apoptosis. In conclusion, silencing of SP1 protected H9c2 cells against LPS-induced injury by binding to the promoter of CXCR4 and suppressing the NF-κB signaling pathway. Hence, our findings provide evidence that manipulation of SP1 or CXCR4 may be an effective approach to promote prevention or recovery of septic myocardial injury, and thereby, may serve as a potential therapeutic strategy for sepsis.

RESUMO

AIMS: This pilot study aimed to evaluate the effects of motor imagery training on lower limb motor function of stroke patients. BACKGROUND: Motor imagery training has played an important role in rehabilitation outcomes of stroke patients. METHODS: In this pilot randomized controlled trial 32 stroke patients were randomly divided into experimental and control groups from January to June 2017. Patients in both groups received conventional neuro-rehabilitation five times a week in 3-h segments for 6 weeks. Patients in the experimental group underwent an additional 20 min of motor imagery training. Measures were evaluated by motor function of the lower extremity, activities of daily living and balance ability. RESULTS: The outcomes significantly improved by motor imagery training were the Fugl-Meyer Assessment of the lower extremity, the Functional Independence Measure dealing with transfers and locomotion, and the Berg Balance Scale. CONCLUSION: Motor imagery training could be used as a complement to physical rehabilitation of stroke patients. Our findings may be helpful to develop nursing strategies aimed at improving functional ability of stroke patients and thus enhancing their quality of life.

RESUMO

Improving the electrical conductivity is an important role in realizing high thermoelectric performance of solution-processable polymers. Herein, a simple and robust approach to boost the mobility and doping efficiency of a diketopyrrolopyrrole-based copolymer with the introduction of thermocleavable side chains (PDPPS-X, where X is the molar ratio of the thermocleavable side chains and alkyl chains) is first provided. Notably, the incorporated thermocleavable groups can be effectively removed after thermal treatment and therefore contribute to the crystalline domain formation via hydrogen-bonded networks, which is critical for conductivity enhancements. Grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS) patterns give a clear indication that the thermal treatment of PDPPS-5 can greatly improve the structural arrangement, resulting in a significantly enhanced hole mobility (5.4 times that of PDPPS-0 without thermocleavable chains). Compared to PDPPS-0, a larger Fermi level shift is observed after doping PDPPS-5 with FeCl3, reflecting a better doping efficiency. Consequently, remarkably improved conductivity and power factor are achieved by PDPPS-5 after doping with 0.03 M FeCl3 at room temperature, which are about 2.2 and 3.5 times higher than that of PDPPS-0 at the same testing condition, respectively. Moreover, PDPPS-5 achieved a maximum power factor of 57.5 µW m-1 K-2 at 404 K.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Peanut and tree nut allergies are the most important causes of anaphylaxis. Co-reactivity to more than one nut is frequent, and co-sensitization in the absence of clinical data is often obtained. Confirmatory oral food challenges (OFCs) are inconsistently performed. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the utility of the basophil activation test (BAT) in diagnosing peanut and tree nut allergies. METHODS: The Markers Of Nut Allergy Study (MONAS) prospectively enrolled patients aged 0.5-17 years with confirmed peanut and/or tree nut (almond, cashew, hazelnut, pistachio, walnut) allergy or sensitization from Canadian (n = 150) and Austrian (n = 50) tertiary pediatric centers. BAT using %CD63+ basophils (SSClow/CCR3pos) as outcome was performed with whole blood samples stimulated with allergen extracts of each nut (0.001-1000 ng/mL protein). BAT results were assessed against confirmed allergic status in a blinded fashion to develop a generalizable statistical model for comparison to extract and marker allergen-specific IgE. RESULTS: A mixed effect model integrating BAT results for 10 and 100 ng/mL of peanut and individual tree nut extracts was optimal. The area under the ROC curve (AUROC) was 0.98 for peanut, 0.97 for cashew, 0.92 for hazelnut, 0.95 for pistachio, and 0.97 for walnut. The BAT outperformed sIgE testing for peanut or hazelnut and was comparable for walnut (AUROC 0.95, 0.94, 0.92) in a sub-analysis in sensitized patients undergoing OFC. CONCLUSIONS: Basophil activation test can predict allergic clinical status to peanut and tree nuts in multi-nut-sensitized children and may reduce the need for high-risk OFCs in patients.

RESUMO

Manipulating orientation of organic emitters remains a formidable challenge in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Here, expansion of the acceptor plane of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters was demonstrated to selectively modulate emitting dipole orientation. Two proof-of-the-concept molecules, PXZPyPM and PXZTAZPM, were prepared by introducing a planar 2-phenylpyridine or 2,4,6-triphenyl-1,3,5-triazine substituent into a prototypical molecule (PXZPM) bearing a pyrimidine core and two phenoxazine donors. This design approach suppressed the influence of substituents on electronic structures and associated optoelectronic properties. Accordingly, PXZPyPM and PXZTAZPM preserved almost the same excited states and similar emission characteristics as PXZPM. The expanded acceptor plane of PXZPyPM and PXZTAZPM resulted in a 15 to 18% increase in horizontal ratios of emitting dipole orientation. PXZPyPM supported its green device exhibiting an external quantum efficiency of 33.9% and a power efficiency of 118.9 lumen per watt, competitive with the most efficient green TADF OLEDs reported so far.
