Early detection and intervention in individuals in the pre-clinical stage of dementia are crucial. This study aimed to examine whether there are significant differences in (1) word retrieval, (2) subjective communication ability, (3) intervention satisfaction through the 'Fill-in-the-blanks in editorial and newspaper articles' training in patients with subjective cognitive decline and mild cognitive impairment corresponding to the pre-clinical stage of dementia. Ninety-nine patients (50 in the intervention group and 49 in the control group) aged 50-84 years were administered pre- and post-test after 6 weeks of intervention (30 sessions). Regarding word retrieval, there were significant intervention effects on confrontation naming, semantic fluency, and phonemic fluency. The majority of participants in the intervention group were highly satisfied with the training. In terms of intervention satisfaction, the majority of the participants in the intervention group showed high satisfaction with all the questions. This result confirmed the improvement of word retrieval ability through mass communication content-based 'Fill-in-the-blanks' training, and ultimately helps to provide a clinical basis for applying this intervention to prevent dementia.

Introduction: Beta-amyloid (Aß) deposition, a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease (AD), begins before dementia and is an important factor in mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Aß deposition is a recognized risk factor for various cognitive impairments and has been reported to affect motor performance as well. This study aimed to identify the linguistic, visuospatial, and kinematic characteristics evident in the writing performance of patients with cognitive impairment (CI) who exhibit Aß deposition. Methods: A total of 31 patients diagnosed with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) with Aß deposition, 26 patients with Alzheimer's-type dementia, and 33 healthy control (HC) participants without deposition were administered tasks involving dictation of 60 regular words, irregular words, and non-words consisting of 1-4 syllables. Responses from all participants were collected and analyzed through digitized writing tests and analysis tools. Results: In terms of linguistic aspects, as cognitive decline progressed, performance in the dictation of irregular words decreased, with errors observed in substituting the target grapheme with other graphemes. The aMCI group frequently exhibited corrective aspects involving letter rewriting during the task. In terms of visuospatial aspects, the AD group displayed more errors in grapheme combination compared to the HC group. Lastly, in the kinematic aspects, both the aMCI group and the AD group exhibited slower writing speeds compared to the HC group. Discussion: The findings suggest that individuals in the CI group exhibited lower performance in word dictation tasks than those in the HC group, and these results possibly indicate complex cognitive-language-motor deficits resulting from temporal-parietal lobe damage, particularly affecting spelling processing. These results provide valuable clinical insights into understanding linguistic-visuospatial-kinematic aspects that contribute to the early diagnosis of CI with Aß deposition.

Hydrangea serrata is a plant grown in Korea and Japan with a particular natural compound, hydrangenol. H. serrata has been researched for its anti-fungal properties, and ability to attenuate allergies and promote muscle growth. Its ability to reduce skin dryness is poorly understood. For that reason, we investigated whether H. serrata hot water extracts (Hs-WE) can moisturize keratinocytes. In clinical studies (Approval Code: GIRB-21929-NY and approval Date: 5 October 2021), skin wrinkles and skin moisturizing levels were improved in subjects applying 0.5% Hs-WE compared to the placebo group. We confirmed the components of Hs-WE from the LC/MS-MS analysis. Hs-WE and hydrangenol did not show cytotoxicity in HaCaT cells at all concentrations. Cell growth was also promoted by Hs-WE (5-20 µg/mL) and hydrangenol (15-60 µM) in a wound healing assay. Skin moisturizing factors were upregulated by the presence of Hs-WE or hydrangenol, and the hyaluronidases (HYAL) were inhibited at the mRNA level. Meanwhile, COL1A1 was increased by the presence of Hs-WE or hydrangenol. MAPK, AP-1, and Akt/PI3k signaling proteins, which are associated with cell proliferation and moisturizing factors, were increased by the administration of Hs-WE and hydrangenol. Has-1, 2, and 3 levels were enhanced via JNK when using the inhibitors of MAPK proteins and Hs-WE and hydrangenol, respectively. Taken together, Hs-WE could be used as cosmeceutical materials for improving skin conditions.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder associated with cognitive decline. Despite worldwide efforts to find a cure, no proper treatment has been developed yet, and the only effective countermeasure is to prevent the disease progression by early diagnosis. The reason why new drug candidates fail to show therapeutic effects in clinical studies may be due to misunderstanding the cause of AD. Regarding the cause of AD, the most widely known is the amyloid cascade hypothesis, in which the deposition of amyloid beta and hyperphosphorylated tau is the cause. However, many new hypotheses were suggested. Among them, based on preclinical and clinical evidence supporting a connection between AD and diabetes, insulin resistance has been pointed out as an important factor in the development of AD. Therefore, by reviewing the pathophysiological background of brain metabolic insufficiency and insulin insufficiency leading to AD pathology, we will discuss how can insulin resistance cause AD.

Intermediate-term preservation of sperm assists the reproductive management of fish spermatozoa; however, no information is available on sperm of the spotted halibut, Verasper variegatus. We aimed to identify the optimum diluents, temperatures, dilution ratios, antibiotics, and antioxidants for sperm motility and cell viability. The diluents evaluated were marine fish Ringer's solution (MFRS), Stein's solution, 300 mM sucrose, and 300 mM glucose (diluted 1:1 [sperm: diluent], 1:2, 1:4, and 1:10 and stored at 0, 2, 4, and 6 °C). Neomycin and gentamycin (100, 200, 400, and 800 mg/L) and antioxidants (Mito-TEMPO [0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, and 200 µM], reduced glutathione [0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mM], and trehalose [0, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 mM]) were assessed in terms of sperm preservation. The most effective condition for cold storage of spotted halibut sperm was Stein's solution at a dilution ratio of 1:4 at 2 °C, with a combination of neomycin 800 mg/L and 250 mM trehalose that showed spermatozoa motility of > 43% after 60 days. These storage conditions will be valuable for spotted halibut hatcheries.

The skin is the main barrier between the body and the environment, protecting it from external oxidative stress induced by ultraviolet rays. It also prevents the entrance of infectious agents such as viruses, external antigens, allergens, and bacteria into our bodies. An overreaction to these agents causes severe skin diseases, including atopic dermatitis, pruritus, psoriasis, skin cancer, and vitiligo. Members of the flavonoid family include apigenin, quercetin, luteolin, and kaempferol. Of these, apigenin has been used as a dietary supplement due to its various biological activities and has been shown to reduce skin inflammation by downregulating various inflammatory markers and molecular targets. In this review, we deal with current knowledge about inflammatory reactions in the skin and the molecular mechanisms by which apigenin reduces skin inflammation.

The roughscale sole, Clidoderma asperrimum is categorized as an endangered species. Sperm freezing is essential for preserving gametes. This study examined the CPA concentration, diluent, dilution ratio, and thawing temperature to design a sperm cryopreservation protocol for roughscale sole. The variables examined included sperm motility and kinematics, cell survival, fertilization, and DNA fragmentation. Sperm motility parameters were assessed via computer-assisted sperm analysis using a CEROS II instrument. Cell survival rate and DNA damage were assessed using the Cell Counting Kit-8 and single-cell gel electrophoresis assay, respectively. Sperm preservation was tested using several CPAs, including ethylene glycol, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), glycerol, propylene glycol, and methanol. The diluents tested were 300 mM sucrose, 300 mM glucose, Stein's solution, Ringer's solution, and Hank's solution. The optimal conditions for sperm cryopreservation were 10% DMSO + Stein's solution. After thawing, sperm motility was highest with a 1:1 dilution ratio (sperm to CPA + diluent), at 69.20 ± 0.32%; thawing at 10 °C was optimal for post-thaw motility (72.03 ± 0.95%). The highest fertilization rate (40.00 ± 1.22%) was obtained using DMSO. The fresh sperm had the lowest tail DNA, followed by 10% DMSO + Stein's solution. The developed cryopreservation methods can be used in roughscale sole hatcheries.

Patients with right hemisphere damage (RHD) occasionally complain of difficulties in conversation. A conversation is a type of communication between the speaker and listener, and several elements are required for a conversation to take place. However, it is unclear which of those elements affect communication in patients with RHD. Therefore, we prospectively enrolled 11 patients with right hemispheric damage due to acute cerebral infarction, within 1 week of onset. To evaluate patients' conversational abilities, we used a structured conversation task, namely, the "Hallym Conversation and Pragmatics Protocol". The topics of conversation were "family", "leisure", and "other/friends". The conversation characteristics were classified according to three indices: the "conversational participation index", "topic manipulation index", and "conversational breakdown index". Patients with RHD were compared with 11 age-, sex-, and years of education-matched healthy adults. The most common site of damage in the patients with RHD was the periventricular white matter. There was no significant difference in performance between the two groups according to the conversation participation index and in the discontinuance rate assessed with the conversational breakdown index. However, patients with RHD showed a lower topic maintenance rate and higher topic initiation and topic switching rates, according to the topic manipulation index. Therefore, we explored the characteristics of impaired conversation abilities in patients with RHD by assessing their ability to converse and manage topics during structured conversations, and found difficulties with pragmatics and communication discourse in these patients.

BACKGROUND: Callerya atropurpurea is a traditional plant in a tropical zone discovered to have anti-inflammatory functions. PURPOSE: we want to investigate the mechanism related to anti-inflammation of C. atropurpurea ethanol extract (Ca-EE) both in vitro and in vivo. STUDY DESIGN: Murine macrophage cells and mouse models for gastritis and septic shock were conducted to evaluate the abilities of Ca-EE in anti-inflammation. METHODS: Ca-EE was tested by HPLC and LC-MS/MS. NO outcome was checked by Griess reagent test. Cell viabilities were evaluated using MTT assay. Inflammatory cytokines were determined via RT-PCR and ELISA. The mechanism of Ca-EE in anti-inflammation was investigated by luciferase reporter gene assay and immunoblot in transcription level and protein level respectively. Gastric injury and septic shock administrated with Ca-EE were studied by H&E, PCR, and immunoblot. RESULTS: Ca-EE significantly decreased LPS-induced NO production, but hardly stimulated the expression of NO itself. It not only showed no cytotoxicity, but also protected cells from LPS damage. Moreover, Ca-EE decreased TLR4 expression, altered MyD88 recruitment and TRAF6, and suppressed the phospho-Src/PI3K/AKT. Ca-EE inhibited downstream signaling P38, JNK and NF-κB. Finally, Ca-EE alleviated HCl/EtOH-induced gastritis and LPS/poly (I:C)-induced septic shock through the previously mentioned signaling cascades. CONCLUSION: Ca-EE exhibited an integrated and promising mechanism against TLR4-related inflammation, which shows potential for treating gastritis, septic shock, and other inflammatory diseases.

There is a growing demand for hair loss treatments with minimal side effects and recurrence potential. Connarus semidecandrus Jack has been used as a folk medicine for fever in tropical regions, but its anti-alopecia effects remain unclear. In this study, the anti-androgenic alopecia effect of an ethanol extract of Connarus semidecandrus Jack (Cs-EE) was demonstrated in a testosterone-induced androgenic alopecia (AGA) model, in terms of the hair-skin ratio, hair type frequency, and hair thickness. The area of restored hair growth and thickened hair population after Cs-EE treatment showed the hair-growth-promoting effect of Cs-EE. Histological data support the possibility that Cs-EE could reduce hair loss and upregulate hair proliferation in mouse skin by shifting hair follicles from the catagen phase to the anagen phase. Western blotting indicated that Cs-EE reduced the expression of the androgenic receptor. Cs-EE treatment also inhibited programmed cell death by upregulating Bcl-2 expression at the mRNA and protein levels. The anti-alopecia effect of Cs-EE was confirmed by in vitro experiments showing that Cs-EE had suppressive effects on 5-α reductase activity and lymph node carcinoma of the prostate proliferation, and a proliferative effect on human hair-follicle dermal papilla (HDP) cells. Apoptotic pathways in HDP cells were downregulated by Cs-EE treatment. Thus, Cs-EE could be a potential treatment for AGA.

Although many anticancer drugs have been developed for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) treatment, there are no obvious therapies. Moreover, the combination of epidermal growth factor receptor- (EGFR-) targeted therapeutics and classical chemotherapeutic drugs has been assessed in clinical trials for TNBC treatment, but those are not yet approved. Our serial studies for newly developed herbal medicine named SH003 provide evidence of its broad effectiveness in various cancers, especially on TNBC. The current study demonstrates a synergic effect of combinatorial treatment of SH003 and docetaxel (DTX) by targeting EGFR activation. The combinatorial treatment reduced the viability of both BT-20 and MDA-MB-231 TNBC cells, displaying the synergism. The combination of SH003 and DTX also caused the synergistic effect on apoptosis. Mechanistically, the cotreatment of SH003 and DTX inhibited phosphorylation of EGFR and AKT in both BT-20 and MDA-MB-231 cells. Moreover, our xenograft mouse tumor growth assays showed the inhibitory effect of the combinatorial treatment with no effect on body weight. Our immunohistochemistry confirmed its inhibition of EGFR phosphorylation in vivo. Collectively, combinatorial treatment of SH003 and DTX has a synergistic anticancer effect at a relatively low concentration by targeting EGFR in TNBC, indicating safety and efficacy of SH003 as adjuvant combination therapy with docetaxel. Thus, it is worth testing the combinatorial effect in clinics for treating TNBC.

Growing demand for treatment options against acute lung injury (ALI) emphasizes studies on plant extracts harboring anti-inflammatory effects. According to GC-MS analysis, Angiopteris cochinchinensis de Vriese consists of various flavonoids with anti-inflammatory activities. Thus, in this study, the anti-inflammatory effects of an extract of Angiopteris cochinchinensis de Vriese (Ac-EE) were assessed using RAW264.6 murine macrophages and a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI model. Ac-EE reduced the nitric oxide production in murine macrophages increased by LPS induction. Moreover, protective effects of Ac-EE on lung tissue were demonstrated by shrinkage of edema and lung injury. Reduced neutrophil infiltration and formation of hyaline membranes were also detected in lung tissues after H&E staining. Semiquantitative RT-PCR, quantitative real-time PCR, and ELISA showed that Ac-EE inhibits the production of proinflammatory mediators, including iNOS and COX-2, and cytokines, such as TNF-α, IL-1ß, and IL-6. An Ac-EE-mediated anti-inflammatory response was derived from inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway, which was evaluated by luciferase reporter assay and Western blotting analysis. A cellular thermal shift assay revealed that the prime target of Ac-EE in alleviating inflammation was Src. With its direct binding with Src, Angiopteris cochinchinensis de Vriese significantly mitigates lung injury, showing possibilities of its potential as an effective botanical drug.

BN82002 is well-known as an inhibitor of the CDC25 phosphatase. However, it was recently reported that BN82002 also selectively suppressed AKT2 and reduced inflammatory responses in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated macrophage-like RAW264.7 cells. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the alleviating efficacy of BN82002 in sepsis in vivo. BN82002 (50 µM) suppressed the mRNA levels of cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1ß, and IL-6 in LPS-treated peritoneal macrophages without cytotoxicity. The septic in vivo mouse model was established on the basis of the endotoxin model using poly(I:C) (10 mg/kg) and LPS (54 mg/kg). In histological analysis, peritoneal injection of BN82002 (20 mg/kg) significantly reduced lung, kidney, and liver damage. Lung edema and serum alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), TNF-α, IL-1ß, and nitric oxide (NO) levels also were decreased by BN82002 (20 mg/kg). In addition, BN82002 (20 mg/kg) suppressed the mRNA levels of TNF-α in lung and liver tissues. Gene expression levels of IL-1ß and IL-6 were decreased in lung, kidney, and liver in the BN82002 (20 mg/kg) group. Furthermore, p-AKT2 and p-IκBα levels were reduced by BN82002 (20 mg/kg). Finally, all septic mice died 7 days after poly(I:C)/LPS-injection, whereas 4 mice in the BN82002 (20 mg/kg) group, survived strongly suggesting that BN82002 reduces sepsis mortality. In conclusion, we verified that pre-treatment with BN82002 protects against tissue damage and increases survival by inhibiting AKT2-NF-κB signaling in septic mice. These results suggest that BN82002 could be utilized in the treatment of sepsis.

Prasiola japonica is an edible alga, and the ethanol extract of P. japonica (Pj-EE) possesses various biological activities. Interestingly, in a recent study, we observed the potent anti-inflammatory activity of the chloroform fraction of Pj-EE (Pj-EE-CF). Thus, to extend the application of Pj-EE-CF, we further studied its effects on lung injury. To establish an experimental model of lung injury, we nasally administered urban particulate matter UPM 1648a (50 mg/kg) to mice. In addition, BEAS-2B cells were treated with 300 µg/mL of UPM 1648a for in vitro analysis. Intranasal administration of UPM 1648a increased lung injury score, macrophage infiltration, and upregulation of the inflammatory enzyme inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in lung tissues. On the other hand, oral administration of Pj-EE-CF (25, 50, and 100 mg/kg) alleviated these pathological features as assessed by lung wet/dry ratio, lung injury score, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) protein amount in the lung tissues up to 70%, 95%, and 99%, respectively. In addition, Pj-EE-CF down-regulated the release of inflammatory cytokines, interleukins (ILs), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and interferon (IFN)-γ elevated by UPM 1648a in the lung tissues and lung BALF up to 95%. According to Western blot and luciferase assay, Pj-EE-CF (100 mg/kg in vivo or 50 and 100 µg/mL in vitro) significantly reduced the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signal activated by UPM 1648a. Finally, UPM 1648a increased cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in BEAS-2B cells, while Pj-EE-CF reduced them. These results suggest that Pj-EE-CF alleviates UPM 1648a-induced lung damage via anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities and by suppressing NF-κB signaling. In conclusion, these observations imply that Pj-EE-CF could be a practical component of food supplements to mitigate air pollution-derived lung damage.

Linosorbs (Los) are cyclic peptides from flaxseed oil composed of the LO mixture (LOMIX). The activity of LO has been reported as being anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory. However, the study of skin protection has still not proceeded. In particular, there are poorly understood mechanisms of melanogenesis to LO. Therefore, we investigated the anti-melanogenesis effects of LOMIX and LO, and its activity was examined in mouse melanoma cell lines. The treatment of LOMIX (50 and 100 µg/mL) and LO (6.25-50 µM) suppressed melanin secretion and synthesis, which were 3-fold increased, in a dose-dependent manner, up to 95%. In particular, [1-9-NαC]-linusorb B3 (LO1) and [1-9-NαC]-linusorb B2 (LO2) treatment (12.5 and 25 µM) highly suppressed the synthesis of melanin in B16F10 cell lines up to 90%, without toxicity. LOMIX and LOs decreased the 2- or 3-fold increased mRNA levels, including the microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF), Tyrosinase, tyrosinase-related protein 1 (TYRP1), and tyrosinase-related protein 2 (TYRP2) at the highest concentration (25 µM). Moreover, the treatment of 25 µM LO1 and LO2 inhibited the expression of MITF and phosphorylation of upper regulatory proteins such as CREB and PKA. Taken together, these results suggested that LOMIX and its individual LO could inhibit melanin synthesis via downregulating the CREB-dependent signaling pathways, and it could be used for novel therapeutic materials in hyperpigmentation.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with the behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) exhibit various levels of abulia, disinhibition, impaired judgment, and decline in executive function. Empirical evidence has shown that individuals with bvFTD also often exhibit difficulty using honorific speech, which expresses respect to another party or addressee. OBJECTIVE: To analyze differences in the ability to use honorific speech among individuals with bvFTD, individuals with dementia of the Alzheimer type (AD dementia), and individuals with normal cognition (NC). METHOD: A total of 53 native Korean speakers (13 bvFTD, 20 AD dementia, and 20 NC) completed an experimental honorific speech task (HST) that involved both expressive and receptive tasks. We analyzed the number of correct responses and error patterns separately for an expressive task and for a receptive task. RESULTS: The bvFTD group had significantly fewer correct responses on the HST compared with the AD dementia and NC groups. The bvFTD group exhibited more misjudgment errors in identifying nonhonorific speech as honorific speech in the expressive task, and significantly longer response times in the receptive task, than the AD dementia and NC groups. Significant associations were identified between HST scores and cortical atrophy in the temporal and frontotemporal lobes. CONCLUSION: A decline in the ability to use honorific speech may be a diagnosable behavioral and psychiatric symptom for bvFTD in Korean-speaking individuals. This decline in individuals with bvFTD could be attributed to multiple factors, including social manners (politeness) and impaired social language use ability (pragmatics).

dnd is a germline-specific maternal RNA expressed in various vertebrate classes, which encodes an RNA-binding protein that is essential for PGC migration. The purpose of this study is fundamental research about starry flounder dnd gene for germ cell marker development. In this study, we cloned and analyzed the expression levels of Platichthys stellatus dead end (psdnd) in various tissues and embryonic stages. The psdnd gene was isolated from starry flounder ovaries, cloned into a pGEM-t vector, and sequenced. Full-length of psdnd cDNA was 1495 bp long, encoding 395 amino acids. psdnd expression levels were investigated by real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) in various tissues and embryo developmental stages. psdnd transcripts were detected in the testes and ovaries, but not in somatic tissues. Embryonic psdnd expression levels were higher during early embryo development stages than during late embryogenesis; psdnd expression was highest at the 1 cell stage, then gradually decreased throughout the subsequent developmental stages. The spatial expression pattern was analyzed by whole-mount in situ hybridization (WISH). The psdnd transcripts migration pattern was similar with zebrafish (Danio rerio). Our results suggest that psdnd may function as a germ cell-specific marker.

OBJECTIVES: In recent in vitro study, it was reported that osteostatin (OST) has an odontogenic effect and synergistic effect with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) in human dental pulp cells. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate whether OST has a synergistic effect with MTA on hard tissue formation in vivo. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-two maxillary molars of Spraque-Dawley rats were used in this study. An occlusal cavity was prepared and the exposed pulps were randomly divided into 3 groups: group 1 (control; ProRoot MTA), group 2 (OST 100 µM + ProRoot MTA), group 3 (OST 10 mM + ProRoot MTA). Exposed pulps were capped with each material and cavities were restored with resin modified glass ionomer. The animals were sacrificed after 4 weeks. All harvested teeth were scanned with micro-computed tomography (CT). The samples were prepared and hard tissue formation was evaluated histologically. For immunohistochemical analysis, the specimens were sectioned and incubated with primary antibodies against dentin sialoprotein (DSP). RESULTS: In the micro-CT analysis, it is revealed that OST with ProRoot MTA groups showed more mineralized bridge than the control (p < 0.05). In the H&E staining, it is showed that more quantity of the mineralized dentin bridge was formed in the OST with ProRoot MTA group compared to the control (p < 0.05). In all groups, DSP was expressed in newly formed reparative dentin area. CONCLUSIONS: OST can be a supplementary pulp capping material when used with MTA to make synergistic effect in hard tissue formation.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Adhesion G protein-coupled receptors (aGPCRs) have a crucial role in cancer. However, the role of ADGRF4, one of aGPCRs, in cancer has yet to be revealed. Therefore, we investigated its role in lung cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. MATERIALS AND METHODS: ADGRF4 gene expression pattern in lung cancer were analyzed by in silico analyses. RNA sequencing was conducted to investigate gene expression pattern altered by ADGRF4 knockdown. Lung cancer cell lines were subjected to cell migration and invasion assays. RESULTS: In silico analysis data indicated a major role of ADGRF4 in lung cancer. RNA sequencing data showed that ADGRF4 gene silencing in lung cancer cells altered global expression pattern. ADGRF4 gene silencing reduced lung cancer cell invasiveness. Furthermore, PPP2C gene expression was most significantly down-regulated by ADGRF4 gene silencing. PPP2C overexpression rescued cell invasiveness inhibited by ADGRF4 gene silencing, and PPP2C gene silencing blocked lung cancer cell invasiveness. CONCLUSION: ADGRF4 regulates lung cancer cell invasiveness via PPP2C.

In older adults with subjective memory complaints (SMCs), featuring a decline in memory but not exhibiting problems during medical examinations and objective memory tests, the weak links between nodes evident in the word retrieval process can be a primary factor for predicting mild cognitive impairment and dementia. This study examined the frequency of the "Tip-of-the-Tongue" (ToT) phenomenon according to age and subjective memory complaints of older adults, and identified differences in the resolution method using sequential cues. A celebrity naming task was performed on older adults (aged 50 to 79) with SMCs (n = 30) and without SMCs (n = 30), comparing the frequency of the ToT phenomenon and in resolution methods. We found that, even if our subjects with SMCs obtained normal results in the objective neuropsychology test, they experienced a significantly higher frequency of the ToT phenomenon than those without SMCs. In addition, subjects with SMCs showed a significantly lower rate of resolution, both spontaneous and following a syllabic cue, compared to those without SMCs. SMCs can be a very early marker of degenerative diseases causing cognitive dysfunction, and thus the selection of appropriate tools for early detection of SMCs is important. The proper naming task may sensitively detect subclinical symptoms of SMCs in subjects who are not classified as patients with cognitive impairments on general neuropsychological test. In addition, this task can identify weak connections between semantic and phonological nodes due to changes in the neural region of older adults with SMCs.
