RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hypertension is an established risk factor for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in elderly individuals. Nevertheless, the impact of different levels of blood pressure on the progression of MCI remains uncertain. This study aims to investigate the non-linear relationship between blood pressure and MCI in the elderly and detect the critical blood pressure threshold, thus, improving blood pressure management for individuals at high risk of MCI. METHODS: Data was obtained from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) cohort. We chose normal cognitive elderly individuals who entered the cohort in 2014 for a 5-year follow-up to observe the progression of MCI. Subsequently, we utilized the Cox regression model to identify risk factors for MCI and conducted a Cox-based restricted cubic spline regression (RCS) model to examine the non-linear relationship between systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) with MCI, determining the critical blood pressure threshold for MCI progression. RESULTS: In the elderly population, female (HR = 1.489, 95% CI: 1.017-2.180), lacking of exercise in the past (HR = 1.714, 95% CI: 1.108-2.653), preferring animal fats (HR = 2.340, 95% CI: 1.348-4.061), increased age (HR = 1.061, 95% CI: 1.038-1.084), increased SBP (HR = 1.036, 95% CI: 1.024-1.048), and increased DBP (HR = 1.056, 95% CI: 1.031-1.081) were associated with MCI progression. After adjusting factors such as gender, exercise, preferred types of fats, and age, both SBP (P non-linear < 0.001) and DBP (P non-linear < 0.001) in elderly individuals exhibited a non-linear association with MCI. The risk of MCI rose when SBP exceeded 135 mmHg and DBP was in the range of 80-88 mmHg. However, when DBP exceeded 88 mmHg, there was a declining trend in MCI progression, although the HR remained above 1. The identified critical blood pressure management threshold for MCI was 135/80 mmHg. CONCLUSION: In this study, we discovered that risk factors affecting the progression of MCI in elderly individuals comprise gender (female), preferring to use animal fat, lack of exercise in the past, increased age, increased SBP, and increased DBP. Additionally, a non-linear relationship between blood pressure levels and MCI progression was confirmed, with the critical blood pressure management threshold for MCI onset falling within the prehypertensive range.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) can undergo inadequate osteogenesis or excessive adipogenesis as they age due to changes in the bone microenvironment, ultimately resulting in decreased bone density and elevated risk of fractures in senile osteoporosis. This study aims to investigate the effects of osteocyte senescence on the bone microenvironment and its influence on BMSCs during aging. RESULTS: Primary osteocytes were isolated from 2-month-old and 16-month-old mice to obtain young osteocyte-derived extracellular vesicles (YO-EVs) and senescent osteocyte-derived EVs (SO-EVs), respectively. YO-EVs were found to significantly increase alkaline phosphatase activity, mineralization deposition, and the expression of osteogenesis-related genes in BMSCs, while SO-EVs promoted BMSC adipogenesis. Neither YO-EVs nor SO-EVs exerted an effect on the osteoclastogenesis of primary macrophages/monocytes. Our constructed transgenic mice, designed to trace osteocyte-derived EV distribution, revealed abundant osteocyte-derived EVs embedded in the bone matrix. Moreover, mature osteoclasts were found to release osteocyte-derived EVs from bone slices, playing a pivotal role in regulating the functions of the surrounding culture medium. Following intravenous injection into young and elderly mouse models, YO-EVs demonstrated a significant enhancement of bone mass and biomechanical strength compared to SO-EVs. Immunostaining of bone sections revealed that YO-EV treatment augmented the number of osteoblasts on the bone surface, while SO-EV treatment promoted adipocyte formation in the bone marrow. Proteomics analysis of YO-EVs and SO-EVs showed that tropomyosin-1 (TPM1) was enriched in YO-EVs, which increased the matrix stiffness of BMSCs, consequently promoting osteogenesis. Specifically, the siRNA-mediated depletion of Tpm1 eliminated pro-osteogenic activity of YO-EVs both in vitro and in vivo. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggested that YO-EVs played a crucial role in maintaining the balance between bone resorption and formation, and their pro-osteogenic activity declining with aging. Therefore, YO-EVs and the delivered TPM1 hold potential as therapeutic targets for senile osteoporosis.

RESUMO

Although numerous polymer-based composites exhibit excellent dielectric permittivity, their dielectric performance in various applications is severely hampered by high dielectric loss induced by interfacial space charging and a leakage current. Herein, we demonstrate that embedding molten salt etched MXene into a poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene-chlorofluoroethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE-CFE))/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) hybrid matrix induces strong interfacial interactions, forming a close-packed inner polymer layer and leading to significantly suppressed dielectric loss and markedly increased dielectric permittivity over a broad frequency range. The intensive molecular interaction caused by the dense electronegative functional terminations (-O and -Cl) in MXene results in restricted polymer chain movement and dense molecular arrangement, which reduce the transportation of the mobile charge carriers. Consequently, compared to the neat polymer, the dielectric constant of the composite with 2.8 wt % MXene filler increases from ∼52 to ∼180 and the dielectric loss remains at the same value (∼0.06) at 1 kHz. We demonstrate that the dielectric loss suppression is largely due to the formation of close-packed interfaces between the MXene and the polymer matrix.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Premature infants often require oxygen supplementation, which can elicit bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and lead to mitochondrial dysfunction. Mitochondria play important roles in lung development, in both normal metabolism and apoptosis. Enhancing our comprehension of the underlying mechanisms in BPD development can facilitate the effective treatments. METHODS: Plasma samples from BPD and non-BPD infants were collected at 36 weeks post-menstrual age and used for metabolomic analysis. Based on hyperoxia-induced animal and cell models, changes in mitophagy and apoptosis were evaluated following treatment with itaconic acid (ITA). Finally, the mechanism of action of ITA in lung development was comprehensively demonstrated through rescue strategies and administration of corresponding inhibitors. RESULTS: An imbalance in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle significantly affected lung development, with ITA serving as a significant metabolic marker for the outcomes of lung development. ITA improved the morphological changes in BPD rats, promoted SP-C expression, and inhibited the degree of alveolar type II epithelial cells (AEC II) apoptosis. Mechanistically, ITA mainly promotes the nuclear translocation of transcription factor EB (TFEB) to facilitate dysfunctional mitochondrial clearance and reduces apoptosis in AEC II cells by regulating autophagic flux. CONCLUSION: The metabolic imbalance in the TCA cycle is closely related to lung development. ITA can improve lung development by regulating autophagic flux and promote the nuclear translocation of TFEB, implying its potential therapeutic utility in the treatment of BPD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a common complication of premature birth, exerts considerable impact on the respiratory health of infants. This study aimed to identify the role of plasma metabolites in predicting respiratory outcomes in BPD-afflicted infants. METHODS: This was a case-control study including 15 BPD premature infants and 15 gestational age and birth weight matched no-BPD preterm infants. Plasma samples, obtained at 36 weeks postmenstrual age (PMA), were subjected to a comprehensive analysis of over 300 metabolites using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The respiratory outcomes of the infants were collected with the first 2 years of corrected postnatal age. RESULTS: The analysis revealed a significant upregulation of urea and downregulation of nine metabolites in BPD infants, including oxalacetic acid, cis-aconitic acid, itaconic acid, betaine, L-asparagine, L-alanine, picolinic acid, inositol, and purine (p < 0.05). These metabolites primarily pertained to the citrate cycle (TCA cycle), glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism, and alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism. Furthermore, seven metabolites demonstrated substantial predictive capacity for respiratory readmissions within the first two years of corrected postnatal age, achieving an area under curve (AUC) exceeding or equal to 0.8. These included chenodeoxycholic acid, dehydrolithocholic acid, glucaric acid, D-glucuronic acid, gamma-glutamylvaline, mevalonic acid, and 3-ureidopropionic acid. CONCLUSIONS: This study identified ten distinct plasma metabolites at 36 weeks PMA that differentiate BPD infants from their non-BPD counterparts, implicating three major metabolic pathways. Additionally, seven metabolites showed strong predictive value for heightened risk of respiratory readmission within two years, underscoring their potential utility in clinical prognostication and management strategies for BPD.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) layered materials demonstrate prominent advantage in regulating lithium plating/stripping behavior by confining lithium diffusion/plating within interlayer gaps. However, achieving effective interlayer confined lithium diffusion/plating without compromising the stability of bulk-structural and the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) remains a considerable challenge. This paper presents an electrochemical scissor and lithium zipper-driven protocol for realizing interlayer confined lithium plating with pretty-low strain and volume change. In this protocol, lithium serves as a "zipper" to reunite the adjacent MXene back to MAX-like phase to markedly enhance the structural stability, and a lithium halide-rich SEI is formed by electrochemically removing the terminals of halogenated MXenes to maintain the stability and rapid lithium ions diffusion of SEI. When the Ti3 C2 I2 serves as the host for lithium plating, the average coulomb efficiency exceeds 97.0 % after 320 lithium plating/stripping cycles in conventional ester electrolyte. Furthermore, a full cell comprising of LiNi0.8 Mn0.1 Co0.1 O2 and Ti3 C2 I2 @Li exhibits a capacity retention rate of 73.4 % after 200 cycles even under high cathode mass-loading (20 mg cm-2 ) and a low negative/positive capacity ratio of 1.4. Our findings advance the understanding of interlayer confined lithium plating in 2D layered materials and provide a new direction in regulating lithium and other metal plating/stripping behaviors.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of children with perianal fistulizing Crohn's disease (pfCD). METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the children, aged 6-17 years, who were diagnosed with Crohn's disease (CD) from April 2015 to April 2023. According to the presence or absence of perianal fistulizing lesions, they were divided into two groups: pfCD (n=60) and non-pfCD (n=82). The two groups were compared in terms of clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis. RESULTS: The incidence of pfCD was 42.3% (60/142). The proportion of males in the pfCD group was higher than that in the non-pfCD group. Compared with the non-pfCD group, the pfCD group had a significantly higher proportion of children with involvement of the colon and small intestine or those with upper gastrointestinal lesions (P<0.05). Compared with the non-pfCD group, the pfCD group had a significantly higher rate of use of infliximab during both induction and maintenance treatment (P<0.05). In the pfCD group, the children with complex anal fistula accounted for 62% (37/60), among whom the children receiving non-cutting suspended line drainage accounted for 62% (23/37), which was significantly higher than the proportion among the children with simple anal fistula patients (4%, 1/23) (P<0.05). There were no significant differences between the two groups in mucosal healing rate and clinical remission rate at week 54 of treatment (P>0.05). The pfCD group achieved a fistula healing rate of 57% (34/60) at week 54, and the children with simple anal fistula had a significantly higher rate than those with complex anal fistula (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: There is a high incidence rate of pfCD in children with CD, and among the children with pfCD, there is a high proportion of children with the use of biological agents. There is a high proportion of children receiving non-cutting suspended line drainage among the children with complex anal fistula. The occurrence of pfCD should be closely monitored during the follow-up in children with CD.

RESUMO

Background: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have demonstrated that combining Chinese herbal injections (CHIs) with oxaliplatin plus tegafur (SOX) chemotherapy regimens improves clinical effectiveness and reduces adverse reactions in patients with advanced gastric cancer (AGC). These RCTs highlight the potential applications of CHIs and their impact on AGC patient prognosis. However, there is insufficient comparative evidence on the clinical effectiveness and safety of different CHIs when combined with SOX. Therefore, we performed a network meta-analysis to rank the clinical effectiveness and safety of different CHIs when combined with SOX chemotherapy regimens. This study aimed to provide evidence for selecting appropriate CHIs in the treatment of patients with AGC. Methods: We searched eight databases from their inception until March 2023. Surface Under the Cumulative Ranking Curve (SUCRA) probability values were used to rank the treatment measures, and the Confidence in Network Meta-Analysis (CINeMA) software assessed the grading of evidence. Results: A total of 51 RCTs involving 3,703 AGC patients were identified. Huachansu injections + SOX demonstrated the highest clinical effectiveness (SUCRA: 78.17%), significantly reducing the incidence of leukopenia (93.35%), thrombocytopenia (80.19%), and nausea and vomiting (95.15%). Shenfu injections + SOX improved Karnofsky's Performance Status (75.59%) and showed a significant reduction in peripheral neurotoxicity incidence (88.26%). Aidi injections + SOX were most effective in reducing the incidence of liver function damage (75.16%). According to CINeMA, most confidence rating results were classified as "low". Conclusion: The combination of CHIs and SOX shows promising effects in the treatment of AGC compared to SOX alone. Huachansu and Shenfu injections offer the greatest overall advantage among the CHIs, while Aidi injections are optimal for reducing the incidence of liver damage. However, further rigorous RCTs with larger sample sizes and additional pharmacological studies are necessary to reinforce these findings.

RESUMO

An increasing number of cases have reported that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can lead to immune system dysregulation and induce autoimmune diseases, but the mechanism is unclear. We treated a patient who presented with an unknown fever after infection with the novel coronavirus, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in 2023. After excluding the possibility of infection, malignancy, and other connective tissue diseases, we considered the diagnosis of IgG4-related disease in consideration of the patient's pathology and clinical findings. In this article, we summarize our diagnostic experience and summarize the case reports of IgG4-related diseases associated with SARS-CoV-2 infections since the COVID-19 pandemic.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Although the accreditation approach is widely used to ensure the quality of medical education in many countries, there is scant empirical evidence on whether and how it improves actual medical school performance. We focused on conditions in China, which introduced an accreditation system during the 2010s. Specifically, we examined the relationship between first-round accreditation and actual performance based on the results of medical licensing examinations. Referring to organisation theory, we hypothesised that the impacts of accreditation would depend on existing performance gaps. METHOD: In 2022, we analysed panel data from 105 Chinese medical schools during accreditation (2012 to 2021) and pass rates on medical licensing examinations (2011 to 2019), as matched into 834 school-year records in a window of years before and after accreditation. We employed fixed-effects regression models with a comparison group to exclude factors that may have confounded the impacts of accreditation time. We also demonstrated the heterogeneous effects of accreditation by tier and performance gap of medical schools. RESULTS: The conservative estimates showed a substantial cumulative improvement (over 15 percentage points) in pass rates during the years before accreditation, with no clear trend indicating performance drops in the years after accreditation. Lower-tiered medical schools gained greater benefits from accreditation. Medical schools with a larger prior performance gap achieved a greater percentage point increase in pass rates with the passage of time in pre-accreditation years. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first empirical study to investigate whether accreditation has bridged performance gaps among medical schools. The results support the value of accreditation in China, a country that recently established the system, and might work as a substitute for missing information on early accreditation history in countries with long-established accreditation systems. We encourage more studies in countries that have recently introduced accreditation systems.

RESUMO

Endothelial cells (ECs) and bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) play crucial roles in supporting hematopoiesis and hematopoietic regeneration. However, whether ECs are a source of BMSCs remains unclear. Here, we evaluate the contribution of endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition to BMSC generation in postnatal mice. Single-cell RNA sequencing identifies ECs expressing BMSC markers Prrx1 and Lepr; however, this could not be validated using Prrx1-Cre and Lepr-Cre transgenic mice. Additionally, only a minority of BMSCs are marked by EC lineage tracing models using Cdh5-rtTA-tetO-Cre or Tek-CreERT2. Moreover, Cdh5+ BMSCs and Tek+ BMSCs show distinct spatial distributions and characteristic mesenchymal markers, suggestive of their origination from different progenitors rather than CDH5+ TEK+ ECs. Furthermore, myeloablation induced by 5-fluorouracil treatment does not increase Cdh5+ BMSCs. Our findings indicate that ECs hardly convert to BMSCs during homeostasis and myeloablation-induced hematopoietic regeneration, highlighting the importance of using appropriate genetic models and conducting careful data interpretation in studies concerning endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition.

RESUMO

The bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common congenital cardiovascular malformation. Patients with BAV are at higher risk of other congenital cardiovascular malformations and valvular dysfunction, including aortic stenosis/regurgitation and infective endocarditis. BAV may also be related to aortic wall abnormalities such as aortic dilatation, aneurysm, and dissection. The morphology of the BAV varies with the presence and position of the raphe and is associated with the type of valvular dysfunction and aortopathy. Therefore, accurate diagnosis and effective treatment at an early stage are essential to prevent complications in patients with BAV. This pictorial essay highlights the characteristics of BAV and its related congenital cardiovascular malformations, valvular dysfunction, aortopathy, and other rare cardiac complications using multimodal imaging.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Approximately 10 years ago, China introduced an education plan to improve the overall quality of medical education and to better serve the population's health needs. Many medical schools were then recognised and financed by China's Ministry of Education to develop and operationalise new pilot programmes (PPs) aligned with this plan. These ran in parallel with the traditional programmes (TPs). One way to achieve the plan's first aim, improving the quality of medical education, is to select academically stronger candidates. We, thus, examined and compared who were selected into PPs and TPs. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. SETTING: Data were collected from 123 medical schools across China via the 2021 China Medical Student Survey. PARTICIPANTS: Participants were undergraduate clinical medicine students across all year groups. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES: Medical school selection was via the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE). Medical students' NCEE performance and their sociodemographics were used as the primary and secondary outcome measures. Mann-Whitney or χ2 tests were used to compare the means between educational programmes (PPs vs TPs) and various selection outcomes. Multilevel mixed-effects regressions were employed to account for school idiosyncratic selection results. RESULTS: Of the 204 817 respondents, 194 163 (94.8%) were in a TP and 10 654 (5.2%) a PP. PP respondents (median=75.2, IQR=69.5-78.8) had significantly higher NCEE scores than their TP counterparts (median=73.9, IQR=68.5-78.7). Holding constant their NCEE score, PP respondents were significantly more likely to come from urban areas, not be first-generation college students, and have parents with higher occupational status and income. CONCLUSIONS: Assuming quality can be indicated by prior academic achievement at the point of selection, PPs achieved this mission. However, doing so limited medical students' diversity. This may be unhelpful in achieving the Education Plan's goal to better serve China's health needs.

RESUMO

Background: Chinese medicine belly button application (CMBBA) has been used to treat childhood diarrhea (CD) in several randomized controlled trials (RCTs), but its effectiveness and combination strategy still need to be clarified. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness, safety, and the optimal combination strategy of CMBBA in treating CD. Methods: Up until January 2023, we searched for studies that met our inclusion criteria in six databases, including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Chinese SinoMed, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang. Heterogeneity was quantified using I2 statistics. A methodological evaluation was performed using the Cochrane Risk Bias Tool 2.0. The Confidence in Network Meta-Analysis online software was employed to evaluate evidence grading. A minimally contextualized framework was used to provide a comprehensive conclusion for the network meta-analysis. This study protocol was registered with PROSPERO. Results: We analyzed data from 33 RCTs that included 4,490 children with diarrhea. In terms of clinical effectiveness, CMBBA plus montmorillonite powder plus anti-infectives may be the most effective treatment option for children with diarrhea and concurrent infection according to a minimally contextualized framework. Either exclusive use of CMBBA or CMBBA in combination with modern medicine was beneficial in reducing the time to diarrhea disappearance (MD = -1.33 days, 95% CI: -1.59 to -1.08, Z = -10.103, p < 0.001) compared to modern medicine exclusively, and the difference was statistically significant. The combined usage of CMBBA could shorten the recovery time of dehydration by an average of 0.74 days (MD = -0.74 days, 95% CI: -1.10 to -0.37, Z = -3.931.103, p < 0.001). While some studies have reported mild allergic reactions and mild abdominal pain after CMBBA use, these symptoms can be cured in a relatively short period of time. Conclusions: The combination of CMBBA, montmorillonite powder, and anti-infectives may provide superior clinical effectiveness for children with diarrhea and concurrent infection. To treat CD, CMBBA can be used effectively and safely. However, the findings must be interpreted with cautiously due to the limited number of clinical trials and the low quality of the studies. In addition, the choice of treatment plan should also be based on the specific conditions of each patient. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Good quality of care for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) depends on high-standard management and facility in the IBD center. Yet, there are no clear measures or criteria for evaluating pediatric IBD (PIBD) center in China. The aim of this study was to develop a comprehensive set of quality indicators (QIs) for evaluating PIBD center in China. METHODS: A modified Delphi consensus-based approach was used to identify a set of QIs of structure, process, and outcomes for defining the criteria. The process included an exhaustive search using complementary approaches to identify potential QIs, and two web-based voting rounds to select the QIs defining the criteria for PIBD center. RESULTS: A total of 101 QIs (35 structures, 48 processes and 18 outcomes) were included in this consensus. Structure QIs focused on the composition of multidisciplinary team, facilities and services that PIBD center should provide. Process QIs highlight core requirements in diagnosing, evaluating, treating PIBD, and disease follow-up. Outcome QIs mainly included criteria evaluating effectiveness of various interventions in PIBD centers. CONCLUSION: The present Delphi consensus developed a set of main QIs that may be useful for managing a PIBD center. Video Abstract.

RESUMO

Early, efficient and sensitive detection of serum markers in cervical cancer is very important for the treatment and prognosis to cervical cancer patients. In this paper, a SERS platform based on surface enhanced Raman scattering technology was proposed to quantitatively detect superoxide dismutase in serum of cervical cancer patients. Au-Ag nanoboxs array was made by oil-water interface self-assembly method as the trapping substrate. The single-layer Au-AgNBs array was verified by SERS for possessing excellent uniformity, selectivity and reproducibility. 4-aminothiophenol (4-ATP) was used as Raman signal molecule, it will be oxidized to dithiol azobenzene under the surface catalytic reaction with the condition of PH = 9 and laser irradiation. The quantitative detection of SOD could be achieved by calculating the change of characteristic peak ratio. When the concentration was from 10 U mL-1-160 U mL-1, the concentration of SOD could be accurately and quantitatively detected in human serum. The whole test was completed within 20 min and the limit of quantitation was 10 U mL-1. In addition, serum samples from the cervical cancer, the cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and healthy people were tested by the platform and the results were consistent with those of ELISA. The platform has great potential as a tool for early clinical screening of cervical cancer in the future.

RESUMO

Background: Tongue images (the colour, size and shape of the tongue and the colour, thickness and moisture content of the tongue coating), reflecting the health state of the whole body according to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), have been widely used in China for thousands of years. Herein, we investigated the value of tongue images and the tongue coating microbiome in the diagnosis of gastric cancer (GC). Methods: From May 2020 to January 2021, we simultaneously collected tongue images and tongue coating samples from 328 patients with GC (all newly diagnosed with GC) and 304 non-gastric cancer (NGC) participants in China, and 16 S rDNA was used to characterize the microbiome of the tongue coating samples. Then, artificial intelligence (AI) deep learning models were established to evaluate the value of tongue images and the tongue coating microbiome in the diagnosis of GC. Considering that tongue imaging is more convenient and economical as a diagnostic tool, we further conducted a prospective multicentre clinical study from May 2020 to March 2022 in China and recruited 937 patients with GC and 1911 participants with NGC from 10 centres across China to further evaluate the role of tongue images in the diagnosis of GC. Moreover, we verified this approach in another independent external validation cohort that included 294 patients with GC and 521 participants with NGC from 7 centres. This study is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT01090362. Findings: For the first time, we found that both tongue images and the tongue coating microbiome can be used as tools for the diagnosis of GC, and the area under the curve (AUC) value of the tongue image-based diagnostic model was 0.89. The AUC values of the tongue coating microbiome-based model reached 0.94 using genus data and 0.95 using species data. The results of the prospective multicentre clinical study showed that the AUC values of the three tongue image-based models for GCs reached 0.88-0.92 in the internal verification and 0.83-0.88 in the independent external verification, which were significantly superior to the combination of eight blood biomarkers. Interpretation: Our results suggest that tongue images can be used as a stable method for GC diagnosis and are significantly superior to conventional blood biomarkers. The three kinds of tongue image-based AI deep learning diagnostic models that we developed can be used to adequately distinguish patients with GC from participants with NGC, even early GC and precancerous lesions, such as atrophic gastritis (AG). RESUMO

The modern technology for acetylene production is inevitably accompanied by the contamination of carbon dioxide and moisture impurities. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), with rational configurations of fluorine as the hydrogen-bonding acceptor (HBA), exhibit excellent affinities to capture acetylene from the gas mixtures. Currently, most research studies feature anionic fluorine groups as structural pillars (e.g., SiF6 2-, TiF6 2-, NbOF5 2-), whereas in situ insertion of fluorine into metal clusters is rather challenging. Herein, we report a unique fluorine-bridged Fe-MOF, i.e., DNL-9(Fe), which is assembled by mixed-valence FeIIFeIII clusters and renewable organic ligands. The fluorine species in the coordination-saturated structure offer superior C2H2-favored adsorption sites facilitated by hydrogen bonding, with a lower C2H2 adsorption enthalpy than other reported HBA-MOFs, demonstrated by static/dynamic adsorption tests and theoretical calculations. Importantly, DNL-9(Fe) shows exceptional hydrochemical stability under aqueous, acidic, and basic conditions, and its intriguing performance for C2H2/CO2 separation was even maintained at a high relative humidity of 90%.
