RESUMO

Because of the half-filled t_{2g}-electron configuration, the BO_{6} octahedral distortion in a 3d^{3} perovskite system is usually very limited. In this Letter, a perovskitelike oxide Hg_{0.75}Pb_{0.25}MnO_{3} (HPMO) with a 3d^{3} Mn^{4+} state was synthesized by using high pressure and high temperature methods. This compound exhibits an unusually large octahedral distortion enhanced by approximately 2 orders of magnitude compared with that observed in other 3d^{3} perovskite systems like RCr^{3+}O_{3} (R=rare earth). Essentially different from centrosymmetric HgMnO_{3} and PbMnO_{3}, the A-site doped HPMO presents a polar crystal structure with the space group Ama2 and a substantial spontaneous electric polarization (26.5 µC/cm^{2} in theory) arising from the off-center displacements of A- and B-site ions. More interestingly, a prominent net photocurrent and switchable photovoltaic effect with a sustainable photoresponse were observed in the current polycrystalline HPMO. This Letter provides an exceptional d^{3} material system which shows unusually large octahedral distortion and displacement-type ferroelectricity violating the "d^{0}-ness" rule.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate surgical strategies and the corresponding benefits for patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma(pCCA). Methods: A total of 81 patients with pCCA who underwent radical excision in the Department of Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery of Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital between January 2014 and December 2021 were retrospectively collected. The cohort consisted of 50 male and 31 female patients, with an age of (62.5±11.5)years(range:26 to 83 years).Seventy-five cases were diagnosed with jaundice,60 of whom received preoperative biliary drainage, while 20 patients received portal vein embolization.Their serum bilirubin level within one week before the operation(M(IQR)) was 44.3 (41.9) µmol/L(range:8.0 to 344.2 µmol/L).Preoperative imaging examinations were performed to evaluate the Bismuth-Corlette type of pCCA,showing 3,6,21,27,and 24 cases of Bismuth-Corlette type Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲa,Ⅲb,and Ⅳ,respectively. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS),and the secondary outcomes were relapse-free survival (RFS),90-day postoperative morbidity and 90-day postoperative mortality.OS and RFS were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared by the Log-rank test.Significant prognostic factors were determined using univariate and multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression analyses. Results: In the cohort of 81 pCCA patients,67 cases(82.7%) underwent major hepatectomy while 3 cases received major hepatectomy combined with pancreaticoduodenectomy.Thirty-four patients underwent hepatectomy combined with vascular resection and reconstruction(18 cases of portal vein resection and reconstruction alone;9 cases of hepatic artery resection and reconstruction alone;7 cases of combination of portal vein and hepatic artery resection and reconstruction).Margin negative(R0 excision) were achieved in 53.1%(43/81) of these patients. The operation duration was (627±136)minutes(range:565 to 940 minutes),and the intraoperative blood loss was 400(455)ml(range:200 to 2 800 ml).The 90-day postoperative mortality was 3.7%(3/81).Grade 3-4 postoperative morbidity was 23.4% (19/81) according to the Clavien-Dindo classification of surgical complications.Up to the last follow-up at September 2022,the follow-up time was 34.0(24.2)months (range:0.4 to 103.6 months).Three patients who died within 90 days after surgery were excluded from the survival analysis. The median OS was 36.10 months (95%CI:18.23 to 42.97 months) and the 1-,3-and 5-year OS rates were 85.3%,46.8% and 27.3%,respectively.The median OS of 41 patients with negative margins was 47.83 months(95%CI:36.90 to 58.80 months) and that of 37 patients with positive margins was 20.47 months(95%CI:10.52 to 30.58 months). The median RFS of 70 patients with R0 and R1 resection was 24.50 months(95%CI:12.15 to 31.85 months)and the 1-,3-and 5-year RFS rates were 65.2%,45.7% and 29.9%,respectively.The median RFS of 41 patients with R0 resection was 38.57 months(95%CI:21.50 to 55.63 months) and that of 29 patients with R1 resection was 10.83 months(95%CI:2.82 to 19.86 months). Conclusions: The primary therapy for pCCA is radical surgical resection.A precise preoperative evaluation and sufficient preparation can reduce postoperative morbidity.Surgical treatment can achieve a better survival outcome by increasing the radical resection rate.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the expression of Macrophage migration-inhibitory factors (MIF) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues and its interaction with ERK1/2 signaling pathway, so as to establish a theoretical basis for further studying the molecular mechanism of MIF promoting HCC. Methods: From February 2020 to August 2021, 52 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues based on hepatitis B cirrhosis (HBV-LC) and 52 cases of adjacent tissues in Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital and 940th Hospital of Joint Logistic Support Force of PLA were collected as the experimental group, including 39 males and 13 females, aged 35-65 years. And 20 cases of normal liver tissue were selected as the control group. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of MIF, ERK1/2 and p-ERK1/2 proteins in liver tissues of the two groups, and in situ hybridization was used to detect the expression of ERK1/2 nucleic acid in liver tissues of the two groups.HepG2 HCC cells and L-02 normal hepatocytes were co-cultured with different concentrations of rMIF, the expression and phosphorylation levels of ERK1/2 and JNK1 proteins in the two kinds of liver cells were detected by Western-blot, and the expression levels of ERK1/2 nucleic acids in the two kinds of liver cells were detected by RT-PCR. One-way ANOVA was used for measurement data and χ2 test was used for counting data. Results: The expressions of MIF, ERK1/2, p-ERK1/2 and ERK1/2 mRNA were significantly increased in HCC and para-cancer tissues (the expression of MIF in HCC group was 78.8%, and that in adjacent group was 75.0%; ERK1/2 80.8% in HCC group and ERK1/2 71.8% in paracancerous group. The expression of p-ERK1/2 75.0 % in HCC group and 46.2% in paracancerous group were respectively detected. ERK1/2 mRNA was expressed in HCC group 76.9%, ERK1/2 mRNA expression in paracancerous group 78.8%), and the differences were statistically significant compared with normal liver tissues (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between HCC and para-cancer tissues (P>0.05). The expressions of ERK1/2, p-ERK1/2 and ERK1/2 mRNA in HepG2 HCC cells were significantly increased with the increase of rMIF concentration, and the increase was most obvious when rMIF concentration was 200 ng/ml, and the difference was statistically significant compared with L-02 normal hepatocytes (P<0.05). Conclusion: MIF, ERK1/2 and p-ERK1/2 are highly expressed in HCC tissues and HepG2 HCC cells, suggesting that MIF promotes the occurrence and development of hepatocellular carcinoma through ERK1/2 signaling pathway.

RESUMO

The intensively intermittent use of antibiotics promotes the rapid evolution of tolerance, which may lead to resistance acquisition in the following evolutionary trajectory. In addition to directly exporting antibiotics as an instant resistance strategy, efflux pumps are overexpressed in tolerant strains. To investigate how efflux pumps participate in resistance development from tolerance to resistance, we performed in vitro evolutional experiments against the antibiotic ciprofloxacin in norA efflux pump mutants of Staphylococcus aureus. These experiments demonstrated that overexpression of norA rapidly facilitated the development of ciprofloxacin resistance from tolerance to resistance through elevated spontaneous mutations. The generated resistance mutations were further fixed in the population by increasing survival ability. The observed Ser80Phe and Glu84Lys mutations in the topoisomerase IV ParC (GrlA in S. aureus) may be responsible for tolerant strains to develop resistance to ciprofloxacin since it has been reported that such mutations disrupt the water-metal ion bridge between quinolones and ParC. MepA and Sav1866 are related to the same antibiotic (ciprofloxacin) susceptibility as NorA, and they also contributed to resistance development against ciprofloxacin. MgrA positively regulated NorA expression and the development of ciprofloxacin resistance. Importantly, blocking the evolutionary pathway by coadministering ciprofloxacin with the efflux pump inhibitor reserpine effectively delayed the resistance acquisition in an in vitro experiment. This study illustrated the role of efflux pumps in the evolutionary trajectory from tolerance to resistance. The delayed resistance development caused by the efflux pump inhibitor illuminates a possible strategy for postponing the resistance acquisition from tolerance to resistance by disrupting efflux pumps.

RESUMO

Objective: To examine the effective and safe outcomes of drug-coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty for the treatment of femoropopliteal long lesions in mid-term and long-term follow-up. Methods: The clinical data of 114 patients with symptomatic (Rutherford 2 to 6) femoropopliteal long lesions who underwent angioplasty with DCB between June 2016 and May 2021 at Department of Vascular Surgery,Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 75 males and 39 females were enrolled, aged (71.9±8.4)years (range: 49 to 89 years). Among 138 lesions in 114 patients, there were 111 de nove lesions (80.4%, 111/138). Total occlusions were recanalized in 116 limbs (84.1%, 116/138). The lesion length was (280.9±78.7)mm (range: 150 to 520 mm). DCB angioplasty combined with debulking devices was used in 59 lesions (42.8%, 59/138).The bail-out stent implantation was performed in 27 limbs (19.6%, 27/138). The Kaplan-Meier method was used to evaluate cumulative primary patency rate, freedom from the clinically driven target lesion revascularization (CD-TLR) rate and accumulate survival rate. Univariate and multivariate analyses with Cox proportional hazards models were performed to determine the significant prognostic factors for primary patency. Results: DCB angioplasty was completed in 114 patients. The technical success rate was 98.2%(112/114). The mean follow-up time was 18 months (range: 3 to 54 months). The results showed that primary patency rates at 12, 24 and 36 months postoperatively were 87.5%, 75.2% and 55.1%, respectively. Freedom from CD-TLR rate at 12, 24 and 36 months postoperatively were 92.4%, 81.8% and 68.7%, respectively. Accumulate survival rate at 12, 24 and 36 months postoperatively were 96.2%, 94.0% and 80.2%. Multivariate Cox's regression analyses showed that chronic limb-threatening ischemia(CLTI) (HR=2.629, 95%CI:1.519 to 4.547, P<0.01) and hyperlipidemia (HR=2.228, 95%CI: 1.004 to 4.948, P=0.026) were independent prognosis factors for primary patency in DCB treatment of femoropopliteal long lesions. Conclusions: DCB provided favorable outcomes for the treatment of femoropopliteal long lesions. CLTI and hyperlipidemia are independent prognosis factors for restenosis after DCB angioplasty.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: There is considerable evidence for relationship between gut microbiota and osteoarthritis (OA), but no studies have investigated their causal relationship. METHOD: This study utilized large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) summary statistics to evaluate the causal association between gut microbiota and OA risk. Specifically, two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach was used to identify the causal microbial taxa for OA. Comprehensively sensitive analyses were performed to validate the robustness of results and novel multivariable MR analyses were further conducted to ensure the independence of causal association. Reverse-direction MR analyses were performed to rule out the possibility of reverse associations. Finally, enrichment analyses were used to investigate the biofunction. RESULTS: After correction, three microbial taxa were identified to be causally associated with diverse joint OA (PFDR < 0.100), namely Methanobacteriaceae family for knee OA (PFDR = 0.043) and any OA (PFDR = 0.028), Desulfovibrionales order for knee OA (PFDR = 0.045) and Ruminiclostridium5 genus for knee OA (PFDR = 0.063). In addition, we also identified five suggestive microbial taxa that were significant with three different methods under the nominal significance (P < 0.05). Sensitive analysis excluded the influence of heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy and multivariable MR analysis ruled out the possibility of horizontal pleiotropy of BMI. GO enrichment analysis illustrates the protective mechanism of the identified taxa against OA. CONCLUSIONS: This study found that several microbial taxa were causally associated with diverse joint OA. The results enhanced our understanding of gut microbiota in the pathology of OA.

RESUMO

Saccharum spontaneum L. is one of the most important germplasm resources for modern sugarcane breeding. Exploring the cold tolerance of S. spontaneum clones with different ploidy levels and screening for cold-tolerant material can be helpful in parent selection for breeding cold-tolerant sugarcane. Morphological indices, leaf ultrastructure and physiological indices were used to evaluate the cold tolerance of 36 S. spontaneum clones with different ploidy levels (2n = 40, 48, 54, 60, 64, 78, 80, 88, 92 and 96). The morphological indices of S. spontaneum clones with different ploidy levels were positively correlated with ploidy. Under low-temperature stress, the chloroplast and mitochondrial structures of the clones with high ploidy were more severely damaged than were those of clones with low ploidy. A comprehensive evaluation of the physiological indices showed that the 36 S. spontaneum clones could be divided into four categories: strongly cold tolerant, cold tolerant, moderately cold tolerant and cold sensitive. Correlation analysis of the morphological indices and cold tolerance revealed a significant negative correlation between cold tolerance and ploidy. On the basis of the morphological and physiological indices, optimal stepwise regression equations that can be used for the selection of cold-tolerant S. spontaneum resources were established. The S. spontaneum clones with low ploidy are more cold tolerant than those with high ploidy. Clones 12-37, 13-10 and 12-23 are strongly cold-tolerant germplasm resources, which suggests these germplasm sources have high potential for use in breeding cold-tolerant sugarcane.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Prostate volume (PV) and its change rate are important for the progression of prostate disease, but studies on their estimates are inconsistent. OBJECTIVES: To investigate whether age, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), and other specific characteristics are associated with PV and its change rate. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A community-based cohort study was conducted in a rural area of China among male residents aged 40-80 years. PV was estimated at baseline and at 4 years of follow-up by trans-abdominal ultrasound. Annual PV change rate (PVCR) was calculated as change in volume divided by time interval. Baseline characteristics, including age, serum PSA, and hormones, were evaluated. And their relationships with PV or PVCR were assessed with Pearson correlation and multivariate linear regression analyses. RESULTS: Totally, 462 participants completed the follow-up with baseline PV (PV0 ) of 15.6 ± 5.5 ml. PV0 was highly correlated with age and PSA in pairwise correlations (Pearson r = 0.35 and 0.34, respectively, p < 0.01). Multivariate linear regression showed similar associations that PV0 tended to increase with age and PSA. The average PVCR was 0.7 ± 1.8 ml/year. In pairwise correlations, PVCR was inversely correlated with PV0 and positively correlated with PSA, while it was not significantly related to baseline age. Linear regression of PVCR on age and PSA in groups classified by PV0 quartile showed that age was not a significant estimator of PVCR, whereas PSA was. In each PV0 group, PVCR tended to increase with PSA. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: PV was positively associated with age and PSA, and it tended to grow faster in men with smaller baseline PV and higher PSA. PSA can be a valuable parameter for estimating both the size and the growth speed of prostate. Although age is associated with prostate enlargement, it does not appear to be related to the longitudinal change rate of PV.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The previous work has shown that Berberine and Hesperidin have beneficial effects on cardiovascular diseases. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Berberine and Hesperidin on inflammatory cytokine secretion, proliferation, differentiation, and collagen synthesis of cardiac fibroblasts stimulated by the transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1), and the potential of these drugs to regulate the Notch1 signaling pathway. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Neonatal rat primary cardiac fibroblasts were stimulated with 5 ng/mL TGF-ß1 as model (TGF) group. In the Berberine (TGF+B) group cells were given TGF-ß1, along with 1.25/2.5/5/10 mg/L Berberine, while the Hesperidin (TGF+H) group was treated with TGF-ß1 and 12.5/25/50/100 µmmol/L Hesperidin. Cellular proliferation, differentiation, and collagen synthesis were evaluated. The role of the Notch1 signaling pathway in the protective effects of Berberine and Hesperidin was analyzed by using γ-secretase inhibitor (DAPT) to block the Notch1 pathway. RESULTS: 5/10 mg/L Berberine intervention could noticeably decrease both TGF-ß1 and IL-1ß levels, 25/50/100 µmol/L Hesperidin could reduce IL-1ß secretion from TGF-ß1 stimulated cardiac fibroblasts. Both Berberine and Hesperidin decreased the expression of α-SMA and cell viability in a concentration-dependent manner; however, the apoptosis of cardiac fibroblasts was not influenced. 10 mg/L Berberine or at least 50 µmol/L Hesperidin could noticeably decrease MMP-1 expression, and at least 5 mg/L Berberine or 100 µmol/L Hesperidin could markedly reduce MMP-9 expression. Using DAPT to block Notch1 signaling could reverse the protective effects of Berberine and Hesperidin. CONCLUSIONS: Berberine and Hesperidin can reduce the secretion of inflammatory cytokines, differentiation, and proliferation, and increase the collagen synthesis of cardiac fibroblasts stimulated by TGF-ß1 via the Notch1 signaling pathway.

RESUMO

The aim of the research was to investigate the expression of lncRNA EPB41L4A-AS2 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and evaluate its influence on the proliferation, invasion and apoptosis of NSCLC. A total of 56 NSCLC tissues and its corresponding adjacent tissues were collected. Quantitative Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was performed to evaluate the lncRNA EPB41L4A-AS2 expression level in tissues and cell lines. Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) protein level was determined by western blot assay. CCK8 assay, EdU assay, flow cytometry (FCM) and transwell assay were performed to access cell proliferation, apoptosis and invasion. EPB41L4A-AS2 expression was significantly downregulated in cancer tissues and cells compared with the adjacent tissues and normal cells (P<0.05). After cells were transfected with pcDNA3.1-EPB41L4A-AS2, cell viability and PCNA protein level was decreased, and cells were arrested in the G0/G1 phase with higher apoptosis rate. Transwell assay showed that over-expressed EPB41L4A-AS2 could reduce cells invasion ability. Expression of low levels of EPB41L4A-AS2 is associated with poor survival in NSCLC and the over-expression of lncRNA EPB41L4A-AS2 inhibits NSCLC cell proliferation, invasion and promote cell apoptosis.

RESUMO

Some studies assessed the association between lncRNA taurine-upregulated gene 1 (TUG1) and the survival in cancer. However, the results were inconclusive.  Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to determine this association. We used the following electronic databases to search for eligible literature: PubMed, Embase, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Wanfang. We used ORs and 95% CIs to measure the association between TUG1 and the survival of cancer. There was no significant association between TUG1 and OS of cancer (HR=1.26, 95% CI=0.97-1.64). In the subgroup analysis by cancer type, significant association could be find in osteosarcoma (HR=1.72, 95% CI=1.27-2.32) and digestive system's tumors (HR=1.66, 95% CI=1.04-2.66). In conclusion, this meta-analysis study indicated that TUG1 might associate with the OS of osteosarcoma and digestive system's tumors.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the distribution of human papillomavirus (HPV) in the diseased areas cut from HPV-positive cervical adenocarcinoma (ADC) detected by laser capture microdissection (LCM). METHODS: Paraffin-embedded specimens diagnosed as ADC between 2005 and 2010 were collected from 9 hospitals in 7 regions across China. HPV genotyping was conducted on paraffin sections using sandwich technique and LCM in order to identify HPV infection in the tumor tissues. HE and p16 immunohistochemistry staining were performed to make histological diagnosis. RESULTS: A total of 169 cervical adenocarcinoma cases were recruited, including 94 cases of mucinous adenocarcinoma (ADC-CX), 9 cases of adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC), 19 cases of minimal deviation adenocarcinoma (ADC-MIN), 14 cases of clear cell adenocarcinoma (ADC-CC), 8 cases of endometrioid adenocarcinoma (ADC-ENDO), 9 cases of serous adenocarcinoma (ADC-SER) and 16 cases of adenocarcinoma not otherwise specified (ADC-NOS). Fourteen types of high risk HPV were detected in the whole tissue section (WTS). HPV16 was the most common type, and the second was HPV18 and HPV52, respectively. Compared with WTS, the HPV-positive rate detected by LCM was lower. The HPV positive rates were significantly different among different subtypes of cervical adenocarcinoma (P<0.001). After LCM, the HPV positive rate was 50.8% and 66.7% in the single infection and multiple, infection groups respectively (P=0.14). The positive rates of p16 was significantly different among different subtypes of cervical adenocarcinoma (P<0.001). p16-positive rate was 73.9% in the HPV-positive samples after LCM, significantly higher than the 38.5% of negative samples (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Laser capture dissection technique can more precisely reflect the HPV distribution in cervical adenocarcinomas. The etiological association between HPV infection and cervical adenocarcinoma occurrence is not as close as that reported in the literature.

RESUMO

The tomato plant (Solanum lycopersicum Mill.) is sensitive to cold, and low field temperatures can result in shortened growth periods and decreased crop yield. Transcription of CRT/DRE-binding factor (CBF) is regulated by INDUCER of CBF EXPRESSION1 (ICE1). CBF activates many downstream genes that confer cold tolerance on plants. ICE1 has been used in genetic engineering to improve cold-resistance in several plant species. Here, ICE1 in a plant expression vector was used to transform a tissue-cultured rhubarb tomato variety using Agrobacterium tumefaciens. The transgenic and control plants were compared at 4°C for 0, 24, and 72 h. We measured leaf physiological indicators related to cold resistance, including malondialdehyde (MDA) and proline (Pro) contents, and peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) activities. At 72 h, the MDA content in transgenic plants was significantly lower than in control plants, indicating a lower membrane lipid injury. The Pro contents and the CAT and POD activities in the transgenic plants increased significantly compared with those of the control plants. For Pro, the increase continued over the prolonged stress exposure, while CAT and POD activities reached peak levels at 24 h. These results are consistent with the roles of Pro, CAT, and POD in defending the integrity of plant cells. Our study not only improves the cold resistance of tomato, but also provides the foundation for further research on the role of ICE1 as a transcription factor in plant cold resistance.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to examine the expression of macrophage migration-inhibitory factor (MIF) in duodenal ulcer epithelial cells and its relation to Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection, and to discuss the pathogenic roles of MIF expression and Hp infection in duodenal ulcer. MIF protein and mRNA expression was examined in samples from patients with duodenal ulcer with and without Hp infection (N = 40 each, experimental group), and in normal duodenal bulb mucosal tissue (N = 40, control group) using immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. Patients without Hp infection received routine treatment, and treatment was provided to the patients positive for Hp to eradicate Hp infection. Hp and MIF expression levels before treatment and after the ulcer had been cured were compared. The positive rates of MIF protein and mRNA in patients with Hp infection before treatment were 67.5 and 65%, respectively, and were 18.9 and 21.6% in the 37 patients from whom Hp was eliminated. These were statistically different both before and after treatment compared with controls (P < 0.05). In the patients without Hp infection, the positive rates of MIF protein and mRNA expression before (45 and 47.5%, respectively) and after (32.5 and 30%) treatment were not significantly different (P > 0.05). The results of this study suggested that MIF is related to the development of duodenal ulcer, and that the presence of Hp is closely related with the expression of MIF in the duodenal mucosa and the development of duodenal ulcer.

RESUMO

We investigated the effects of a modified Shoutaiwai recipe on integrin ß3 and leukemia-inhibitory factor (LIF) in the endometrium of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) mice during the implantation window. Seventy non-pregnant mice were randomly divided into 3 groups: a traditional medicine (TCM) treatment group (N = 30), an aspirin treatment (N = 30) group, and a control group (N = 10). After the model was successfully established, mice in the drug treatment groups and the control group were respectively treated with the modified Shoutaiwai recipe, aspirin, or 0.9% physiological saline. During the implantation window of mice, the middle segment of the mouse uterus was recovered, and integrin ß3 and LIF expressions in the endometrium were respectively detected using an immunohistological two-step method and reverse transcription-PCR. Expressions of integrin ß3 and LIF in the endometrium of mice in the TCM treatment group were significantly increased compared to aspirin-treated and control mice, and those of aspirin-treated mice were increased compared to the control group. Our modified Shoutaiwai recipe may improve the endometrial receptivity of COH mice by increasing the expression of integrin ß3 and LIF in the endometrium during the implantation window.

RESUMO

This study aimed to determine the relationship between changes in the serum levels of macrophage migratory inhibitory factor (MIF), interleukin (IL) 17, and IL-10 during chronic hepatitis B treatment via Baraclude(®) (Bristol-Meyers Squibb). Thirty-six patients with chronic hepatitis B and 24 healthy individuals were selected as the experimental and control groups, respectively, and the serum levels of MIF, IL-17, and IL-10 were measured during the period in which the experimental group was treated with oral Baraclude(®); meanwhile, the alanine aminotransferase (ALT), hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA, and HBV marker (M) levels were measured in the experimental group. In the experimental group, the ALT and HBV-DNA levels began to exhibit obvious decreases in week 4, and the MIF and IL-17 levels exhibited obvious increases in week 4 followed by gradual decreases; however, the IL-10 level exhibited an obvious decrease in week 12 and then increased gradually. These changes were significant when compared with the control group (P < 0.05). In conclusion, Baraclude(®) treatment not only actively suppressed HBV but also indirectly balanced the MIF, IL-17, and IL-10 levels and reduced the liver inflammatory response.

RESUMO

ICE1 genes play a very important role in plants in cold conditions. To improve the cold resistance of tomato, the ICE1 gene of Arabidopsis thaliana was used to construct the plant expression vector p3301-ICE1, and was overexpressed in tomato through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Five strains of resistant plants were obtained. PCR and half-quantitative results showed that the ICE1 gene was transferred to tomato; three strains tested positive. After low-temperature stress treatment, praline content and peroxide and catalase activities in the transgenic tomato plants were higher compared with non-transgenic controls, while malondialdehyde content was clearly lower.

RESUMO

Recently, A2B3 type strong spin orbital coupling compounds such as Bi2Te3, Bi2Se3 and Sb2Te3 were theoretically predicated to be topological insulators and demonstrated through experimental efforts. The counterpart compound Sb2Se3 on the other hand was found to be topological trivial, but further theoretical studies indicated that the pressure might induce Sb2Se3 into a topological nontrivial state. Here, we report on the discovery of superconductivity in Sb2Se3 single crystal induced via pressure. Our experiments indicated that Sb2Se3 became superconductive at high pressures above 10 GPa proceeded by a pressure induced insulator to metal like transition at ~3 GPa which should be related to the topological quantum transition. The superconducting transition temperature (TC) increased to around 8.0 K with pressure up to 40 GPa while it keeps ambient structure. High pressure Raman revealed that new modes appeared around 10 GPa and 20 GPa, respectively, which correspond to occurrence of superconductivity and to the change of TC slop as the function of high pressure in conjunction with the evolutions of structural parameters at high pressures.

RESUMO

Owing to ethnicity of the population, those best confirmed polymorphisms in the TLR (toll-like receptor)4 and NOD2 genes with significantly prognostic impact on allogeneic hematopoietic SCT (allo-HSCT) seem to be more applicable to Europeans and are nonpolymorphic in the Asian population. The influence of innate immunity gene polymorphisms on the outcomes of allo-HSCT in those populations has been questioned. We evaluated the influence of 10 candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the TLR1, TLR2, TLR3, TLR8 and TLR9 genes on the outcomes of allo-HSCT in a Chinese population including 138 pairs of patients and unrelated donors and a second cohort of 102 pairs of patients and HLA-identical sibling donors. We found that two tagSNPs in the TLR9 gene in the donor side, +1174 A/G (rs352139) and +1635 C/T (rs352140), influenced the risk of acute GVHD (aGVHD) and CMV reactivation. Furthermore, the presence of the susceptible haplotype (A-C) in donor may be an informative predicator of worse OS at 5 years compared with those with the G-C and G-T haplotypes (58% vs 82.9%, P=0.024). Our data suggested an unrecognized association between donor TLR9 tagSNPs and the risk of HSCT-related complications in a population without polymorphisms in the TLR4 and NOD2 genes.
