RESUMO
The aim of this study was to explore the existence of a relationship between the rs189037 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of the ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) gene and cognitive impairment in the elderly (aged 60 years and above). In a cohort, 505 residents of Suinung City were consecutively recruited and their cognitive function was measured using a 30-point Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). The subjects were divided into cognitive impairment group and control group on the basis of MMSE scores. Presence of the rs189037 SNP variant was examined using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. The prevalence rates of cognitive impairment were 32.7% in the whole sample. The genotype frequencies of the rs189037 polymorphism were 33.5% (CC), 50.7% (CT), and 15.8% (TT); the C and T allele frequencies were 58.8 and 41.2%, respectively. No significant differences in the frequency distributions of the CC, CT and TT genotypes were observed between cognitively impaired and control groups. We found that the rs189037 SNP was not directly correlated with cognitive impairment among the elderly Chinese Han population.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the bracket placement with the preadjusted appliance for extraction cases. METHODS: Sixty finishing occlusions were chosen as Andrews stated at debonding. The placement of the incisor teeth bracket was in the middle of the clinical crown, and retention arch wire was straight wire without step bends. The measurement from the incisal or occlusal edges to the bracket center was the height of the placement of the bracket. In order to produce bracket placement chart, the values of measurements +0.5 mm and +1.0 mm were added for larger teeth, and -0.5 mm and -1.0 mm for smaller teeth. RESULTS: The placement in the second bicuspid and first molar was different between extraction cases and nonextraction cases. CONCLUSION: The bracket placement chart improves the accuracy of bracket placement with the preadjusted appliance for extraction cases.
RESUMO
This article takes the records of an experiment on the effects of using aspirin in different times. Two groups of patients were formed. The control group took the medicine by traditional routines, the experiment group had the medicine preventively according to the specialty of the alpha-IFN adverse reaction. The latter was proved to be much more affective. It was concluded that it was more effective to use aspirin before adverse reaction appear than after that.
