This study assesses the status of outcome measures in the randomized controlled trial(RCT) involving the kidney-tonif-ying and blood-activating method for treating knee osteoarthritis(KOA), aiming to establish a theoretical foundation for the development of a core set of outcome measures in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) treatment of KOA. The relevant articles were retrieved from CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed, EMbase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science, in addition to ClinicalTrials.gov and the China Clinical Trial Registration Center, with the time interval from inception to August 2023. The RCT of treating KOA with the kidney-tonifying and blood-activating method was included. Two assessors independently conducted literature screening, data collection, and qualitative analysis to compile the outcome measure results. A total of 350 RCTs were included, involving 165 outcome measures with the total frequency of 1 462. These outcome measures were categorized into six domains: symptom and sign measures(23) with the frequency of 718(49.1%), TCM symptom and syndrome measures(3) with the frequency of 53(3.6%), physical examination measures(130) with the frequency of 506(34.6%), quality of life measures(4) with the frequency of 20(1.3%), long-term efficacy measures(2) with the frequency of 6(0.4%), and safety measures(3) with the frequency of 159(10.9%). Additionally, 53 studies used TCM syndrome and symptom scores as indicators of efficacy, employing eight distinct measurement tools. The RCTs involving the kidney-tonifying and blood-activating method for treating KOA had a variety of problems, such as unclear prio-ritization of outcome measures, diversity in measurement tools, absence of standardized assessment criteria for specific measures, and non-standardized usage. These problems affected the research quality and reliability. Hence, it is advisable to draw upon international expertise, improve research design, and merge TCM efficacy characteristics with clinical research to establish a core set of KOA outcome measures aligned with TCM principles.

In current work, the effect of freezing (F), ultrasound (U), and freeze- ultrasound (FU) pretreatment on infrared combined with hot air impingement drying kinetics, cell ultrastructure, enzyme activity, and physicochemical properties of strawberry slices were explored. Results showed that FU pretreatment enhanced cell membrane permeability via forming micropores, altered water status by transforming bound water into free water and thus promoted moisture diffusivity and decreased drying time by 50% compared to the control group. FU pretreatment also extensively decreased pectin methylesterase enzyme activity and maintained quality. The contents of total phenols, anthocyanins, vitamin C, antioxidant activity, and a* value of dried strawberries pretreated by FU were extensively increased compared to the control group. U and FU pretreatments were beneficial for retaining aromatic components and organic sulfides according to e-nose analyses. The findings indicate that FU is a promising pretreatment technique as it enhances drying process and quality of strawberry slices.

Aim: We aim to access the effect of pericardiectomy for constrictive pericarditis with or without cardiopulmonary bypass. Methods: This was a review of pericardiectomy for constrictive pericarditis. Results: Cardiopulmonary bypass is actually an important maneuver to attain complete relief of the constriction. The short additional time of cardiopulmonary bypass during the procedure has very little effect on the risk of morbidity of the main operation. Conclusion: Incomplete pericardiectomy perhaps was the cause of postoperative remnant constriction and high diastolic filling pressure leading to multiorgan failure. Complete pericardiectomy (removal of phrenic-to-phrenic and the postero-lateral and inferior wall pericardial thickening) using cardiopulmonary bypass should be the routine for total relief of the constriction of the heart.

Aim To discover the potential active compounds and possible mechanisms in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) treatment with Zhi-Huang-Zhi-Tong powder (ZHZTP) by using network pharmacology and in vitro study. Methods The active ingredient targets and disease targets of Zhihuang Zhitong Powder were searched and screened by database; they intersected to get a common target; and the "drug-component-target" relationship network diagram was constructed for GO and KEGG enrichment analysis of the overlapping genes; then the core components were docked with the core targets. Finally, based on the inflammation model of HUVECs in vitro, the efficacy and mechanism of Zhihuang Zhitong powder were verified by MTT method, plate scratch test and Western blot. Results Active compounds involved in RA treatment were screened in the present study, and the top two were ursolic acid and emodin, all playing crucial roles in RA treatment with ZHZTP. Additionally, the key target was AKTA, TNF and IL-6. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis revealed that ZHZTP regulated BP, MF and CC, and also focused on regulating AKTA, TNF and IL-6 signaling pathway. Molecular docking showed that interactions between key active compounds and key targets were stable. In vitro ZHZTP significantly inhibited cell viability and migration of TNF-a-stimulated HUVECs, and the involved mechanism may be associated with PI3K/AKT/m-TOR signaling. Conclusions The present study reveals that the potential active compounds of ZHZTP are ursolic acid and emodin, and moreover, the involved mechanisms of ZHZTP for RA treatment are associated with PI3 K/AKT/m-TOR signaling.

BACKGROUND: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) can reduce viral load in individuals infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); however, some HIV-infected individuals still cannot achieve optimal immune recovery even after ART. Hence, we described the profile of peripheral immune cells and explored the association with disease progression in patients infected with HIV-1. METHODS: Mass cytometry analysis was used to characterize the circulating immune cells of 20 treatment-naïve (TNs), 20 immunological non-responders (INRs), 20 immunological responders (IRs), and 10 healthy controls (HCs). Correlation analysis was conducted between cell subpopulation percentages and indicators including HIV-1 cell-associated (CA)-RNA, DNA, CD4+ T cell count, and CD4/CD8 ratio. RESULTS: Global activation, immunosenescence, and exhaustion phenotypes were observed in myeloid cells and T cells from individuals with HIV-1 infection. We also found that specific subsets or clusters of myeloid, CD4+ T, and CD8+ T cells were significantly lost or increased in TN individuals, which could be partially restored after receiving ART. The percentages of several subpopulations correlated with HIV-1 CA-RNA, DNA, CD4+ T cell count, and CD4/CD8 ratio, suggesting that changes in immune cell composition were associated with therapeutic efficacy. CONCLUSION: These data provide a complete profile of immune cell subpopulations or clusters that are associated with disease progression during chronic HIV-1 infection, which will improve understanding regarding the mechanism of incomplete immune recovery in INRs.

Clinical studies had found that hydrogen/oxygen mixed inhalation was beneficial to ameliorate the respiratory symptoms in the adjuvant treatment of patients with COVID-19. We aimed to explore the efficacy of hydrogen/oxygen therapy in favoring the recovery of Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant infection. There were 64 patients who randomly assigned to receive hydrogen/oxygen inhalation (32 patients) and oxygen inhalation (32 patients). The average shedding duration of Omicron in hydrogen/oxygen group was shorter than oxygen group. The trend of cumulative negative conversion rate of Omicron increased gradually after the third day. The IL-6 levels in hydrogen/oxygen group decreased by 22.8% compared with the baseline. After hydrogen/oxygen mixed gas inhalation, the lymphocyte count increased to 61.1% of the baseline on the 3rd day in the hydrogen/oxygen group. More patients in the hydrogen/oxygen group had resolution of pulmonary lesions. Our study showed the beneficial trends of molecular hydrogen in treating patients with COVID-19, which may offer a prospective solution to adjuvant therapy for COVID-19 Patients.

BACKGROUND: We investigated the effect of subclinical hyperthyroidism and subclinical hypothyroidism on cognitive function in rats and the role of autophagy in this process. METHODS: Forty Wistar rats were randomized into normal control (NC), hyperthyroidism (Hyper), hypothyroidism (Hypo), subclinical hyperthyroidism (sHyper), and subclinical hypothyroidism (sHypo) groups. Cognitive function (spatial learning and memory) was tested by the Morris water maze test. Hippocampal histopathology was analyzed by H&E staining, and expression levels of caspase-3 in hippocampal CA1 neurons were measured. In addition, immunoblot analysis was performed to detect hippocampal autophagy-related proteins. RESULTS: Escape latency from day 1 to day 4 was significantly longer in the Hypo, Hyper, and sHyper groups than in the NC group (P < 0.01). In addition, the number of rats crossing the virtual platform was significantly lower in the Hypo, Hyper, and sHyper groups than in the NC group (P < 0.01). Compared with the NC group, all four groups had significantly lower residence time in the target quadrant (P < 0.05). Beclin-1 and LC3-II protein expression in hippocampal tissues was significantly higher in the Hyper and sHyper groups than in the NC group (P < 0.01). Beclin-1 and LC3-II protein expression in hippocampal tissues did not significantly differ between the sHypo group and NC group (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Subclinical thyroid dysfunction in rats might lead to cognitive impairment. Subclinical hyperthyroidism might be associated with excessive activation of autophagy and hippocampal neuron damage and necrosis.

Background: The early detection of clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) through the integration of multidimensional parameters presents a promising avenue for improving survival outcomes for this fatal disease. This study aimed to assess the contribution of prostate transition zone (TZ) to predictive models based on the prostate health index (PHI), with the goal of enhancing early detection of csPCa in the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) gray zone. Methods: In this observational cross-sectional study, a total of 177 PSA gray zone patients (total prostate-specific antigen [tPSA] level ranging from 4.0 to 10.0 ng/mL) were recruited and received PHI detections from August 2020 to March 2022. Prostatic morphologies especially the TZ morphological parameters were measured by transrectal ultrasound (TRUS). Results: Univariable logistic regression indicated prostatic morphological parameters including total prostate volume (PV) indexes and transitional zone volume indexes were all associated with csPCa (P < .05), while the multivariable analysis demonstrated that C-reactive protein (CRP), PHI, PHI density (PHID), and PHI transition zone density (PHI-TZD) were the 4 independent risk factors. The receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis suggested that integrated predictive models (PHID, PHI-TZD) yield area under the curves (AUCs) of 0.9135 and 0.9105 in csPCa prediction, which shows a relatively satisfactory predictive capability compared with other predictors. Moreover, the PHI-TZD outperformed PHID by avoiding 30 patients' unnecessary biopsies while maintaining 74.36% specificity at a sensitivity of 90%. Decision-curve analysis (DCA) confirmed the comparable performance of the multivariable full-risk prediction models, without the inclusion of the net benefit, thereby highlighting the superior diagnostic efficacy of PHID and PHI-TZD in comparison with other diagnostic models, in both univariable and multivariable models. Conclusion: Our data confirmed the value of prostate TZ morphological parameters and suggested a significant advantage for the TZ-adjusted PHI predictive model (PHI-TZD) compared with PHI and PHID in the early detection of gray zone csPCa under specific conditions.

The intestinal epithelial barrier plays an important role during human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease progression. However, the extent to which the intestinal epithelial barrier is damaged in immunological non-responders (INRs) and immunological responders (IRs) is largely unknown. In this study, we investigated and compared the levels of intestinal gland damage and related molecules, including the tight junction protein claudin-1, apoptosis marker caspase-3, HIV DNA, CD4+ T cell count, and inflammation marker tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) among the IRs (n = 10), INRs (n = 8), and healthy controls (HCs, n = 7). Intestinal damage was not completely restored in both INRs and IRs and was more serious in INRs than that in IRs. Moreover, intestinal damage was positively correlated with HIV DNA levels and negatively correlated with CD4+ T cell counts. These results provide insight into understanding the characteristics of intestinal epithelial barrier damage between IRs and INRs.

Although the expression of ASPP family members in multiple tumors has been studied, especially in various cell lines of breast cancer (BC), but the expressions pattern of ASPP family members in invasive BC tissues are not clear. We studied the expression and expression pattern of ASPPs family member in BCs, the relationship between ASPP family members and clinic-pathologic features of BCs was also analyzed. The results showed that the expression of ASPP1, ASPP2 and iASPP was observed on AE1/AE3+ tumor cells, and not on infiltrated lymphocytes and capillaries. The relationship between ASPP1 expression and pTNM stage has statistical difference (p<0.01). The relationship between expression of ASPP2 and SBR grade has statistical difference (p<0.05). The relationship between expression of iASPP and clinic-pathologic feature of patients has no statistical difference (p>0.05). The patients with positive expression of ASPP1 and the patients with negative expression of ASPP1 have statistical difference in 3-year survival rate and 5-year survival rate (χ2 = 4.49, P = 0.03; χ2 = 3.79, P = 0.048). Overall, our work demonstrated that the expression of ASPP1/2 contributes to predict the prognosis of patients with BC.

Background: High-grade bladder cancer (HGBC) has a higher malignant potential, recurrence and progression rate compared to low-grade phenotype. Its early symptoms are often vague, making non-invasive diagnosis using urinary biomarkers a promising approach. Methods: The gene expression data from urine samples of patients with HGBC was extracted from the GSE68020 dataset. The clinical information and gene expression data in tumor tissues of HGBC patients were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Multivariate Cox analysis was used to predict the optimal risk model. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis was performed via the Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes (STRING) database and visualized using Cytoscape. Overall survival (OS) was evaluated in the Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) online platform. Competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network was also visualized using Cytoscape. The expression levels of specific genes were assessed through quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Moreover, co-expressed genes and potential biological functions related to specific genes were explored based on the Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia (CCLE) database. Results: A total of 560 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified when comparing the urine sediment samples from HGBC patients with the benign ones. Using these urinary DEGs and the clinical information of HGBC patients, we developed an optimal risk model consisting of eight genes to predict the patient outcome. By integrating the node degree values in the PPI network with the expression changes in both urine and tissue samples, eighteen hub genes were selected out. Among them, DKC1 and SNRPG had the most prominent comprehensive values, and EFTUD2, LOR and EBNA1BP2 were relevant to a worse OS in bladder cancer patients. The ceRNA network of hub genes indicated that DKC1 may be directly regulated by miR-150 in HGBC. The upregulation of both SNRPG and DKC1 were detected in HGBC cells, which were also observed in various tumor tissues and malignant cell lines, displaying high correlations with other hub genes. Conclusions: Our study may provide theoretical basis for the development of effective non-invasive detection and treatment strategies, and further research is necessary to explore the clinical applications of these findings.

Micro(nano)plastics widely detected in aquatic environments have caused serious threat to water quality security. However, as a potential important source of micro(nano)plastics in surface water during the COVID-19 pandemic, the ecological risks of face mask waste to aquatic environments remain poorly understood. Herein, we comprehensively characterized the micro(nano)plastics and organic compounds released from four daily used face masks in aqueous environments and further evaluated their potential impacts on aquatic ecosystem safety by quantitative genotoxicity assay. Results from spectroscopy and high-resolution mass spectrum showed that plastic microfibers/particles (∼11%-83%) and leachable organic compounds (∼15%-87%) were dominantly emitted pollutants, which were significantly higher than nanoplastics (< ∼5%) based on mass of carbon. Additionally, a toxicogenomics approach using green fluorescence protein-fused whole-cell array revealed that membrane stress was the primary response upon the exposure to micro(nano)plastics, whereas the emitted organic chemicals were mainly responsible for DNA damage involving most of the DNA repair pathways (e.g., base/nucleotide excision repair, mismatch repair, double-strand break repair), implying their severe threat to membrane structure and DNA replication of microorganisms. Therefore, the persistent release of discarded face masks derived pollutants might exacerbate water quality and even adversely affect aquatic microbial functions. These findings would contribute to unraveling the potential effects of face mask waste on aquatic ecosystem security and highlight the necessity for more developed management regulations in face mask disposal.

Studies assessing the gut mucosal immune balance in HIV-infected patients using intestinal samples are scarce. In this study, we used intestinal mucosal specimens from the ileocecal region of seven immunological nonresponders (INRs), nine immunological responders (IRs), and six HIV-negative controls. We investigated T helper 17 (Th17) and T regulatory (Treg) cell counts and their ratio, zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (I-FABP), tumor necrosis factor-α, CD4+ T cell counts, HIV DNA, and cell-associated HIV RNA. The results showed that INRs had lower Th17 and higher Treg cell counts than IR, resulting in a significant difference in the Th17/Treg ratio between IRs and INRs. In addition, INRs had lower ZO-1 and higher I-FABP levels than IRs. The Th17/Treg ratio was positively associated with ZO-1 and negatively associated with I-FABP levels. There was a positive correlation between Th17/Treg ratio and CD4+ T cell counts and a negative correlation between the Th17/Treg ratio and HIV DNA in the intestine. Our study suggests that the imbalance of Th17/Treg in the intestine is a characteristic of incomplete immune reconstitution to antiretroviral therapy and is associated with intestinal damage.

Discarded face masks from the global COVID-19 pandemic have contributed significantly to plastic pollution in surface water, whereas their potential as a reservoir for aquatic pollutants is not well understood. Herein, we conducted a field experiment along a human-impacted urban river, investigating the variations of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), pathogens, and water-borne contaminants in commonly-used face masks. Results showed that high-biomass biofilms formed on face masks selectively enriched more ARGs than stone biofilm (0.08-0.22 vs 0.07-0.15 copies/16 S rRNA gene copies) from bulk water, which mainly due to unique microbial communities, enhanced horizontal gene transfer, and selective pressure of accumulated contaminants based on redundancy analysis and variation partitioning analysis. Several human opportunistic pathogens (e.g., Acinetobacter, Escherichia-Shigella, Bacillus, and Klebsiella), which are considered potential ARG carriers, were also greatly concentrated in face-mask biofilms, imposing a potential threat to aquatic ecological environment and human health. Moreover, wastewater treatment plant effluents, as an important source of pollutants to urban rivers, further aggravated the abundances of ARGs and opportunistic pathogens in face-mask biofilms. Our findings demonstrated that discarded face masks provide a hotspot for the proliferation and spread of ARGs and pathogens in urban water, highlighting the urgent requirement for implementing stricter regulations in face mask disposal.

Background: Detection of microvascular invasion (MVI) of kidney tumors is important for selecting the optimal therapeutic strategy. Currently, the prediction of MVI lacks an accurate imaging biomarker. This study evaluated the performance of three-dimensional (3D) magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) imaging in predicting microvascular invasion (MVI) of T1 stage clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC). Methods: In this prospective study, we conducted pre-surgical imaging with a clinical 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. Firstly, 83 consecutive patients were enrolled in this study. A 3D MRE stiffness map was generated and transferred to a post-processing workstation. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) was conducted to calculate the tumor enhancement ratio. The presence of MVI was evaluated by histopathological analysis and graded according to the risk stratification based upon the number and distribution. The mean stiffness and CT tumor enhancement ratio was calculated for tumors with or without MVI. The diagnostic performance [sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, area under the curve (AUC)] and independent predicting factors for MVI were investigated. Results: Finally, A total of 80 patients (aged 46.7±13.2 years) were enrolled, including 22 cases of tumors with MVI. The mean MRE stiffness of kidney parenchyma and kidney tumors was 4.8±0.2 and 4.5±0.7 kPa, respectively. There was significant difference in the mean MRE stiffness between tumors with MVI (5.4±0.6 kPa) and tumors without MVI (4.1±0.3 kPa) (P<0.05). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and the AUC for mean stiffness in the prediction of MVI were 100%, 75%, 63%, 96%, and 0.87 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.72, 0.94], respectively. The corresponding values for the CT tumor enhancement ratio were 90%, 80%, 63%, 96%, and 0.88 (95% CI: 0.71, 0.93), respectively. The odds ratio (OR) value for MRE tumor stiffness and CT kidney tumor enhancement ratio in the prediction of MVI was 2.9 (95% CI: 1.8, 3.7) and 1.2 (95% CI: 1.0, 1.7), respectively (P>0.05). Conclusions: 3D MRE imaging has promising diagnostic performance for predicting MVI in T1 stage ccRCC, which may improve the reliability of surgical strategy selection with T1 stage ccRCC.

In order to clarify the differences in the effects of vegetation restoration strategies on soil carbon sequestration and aggregate stability under different water-eroded environments, we collected experimental data from 91 papers and evaluated the response of soil organic carbon (SOC) stock and aggregate stability to vegetation restoration based on Meta-analysis. The results showed the following:① compared with cropland or bare land, forestland/grassland restoration was beneficial to increase SOC stock and improve aggregate stability, but the dominant functions of the two were different. The effect of forestland restoration on carbon sequestration was stronger than that of grassland reforestation, and the effect of grassland restoration on aggregate stability was stronger than that of forestland restoration. ② Multi-factor Meta-analysis showed that the factors that significantly affected SOC were restoration year, soil clay content, vegetation coverage, mean annual precipitation (MAP), mean annual temperature (MAT), and soil depth. The positive effect of vegetation restoration on SOC stock increased with the increase in vegetation coverage rate. Grassland restoration had a more significant effect on SOC stock when soil clay content was 20%-32%, it was more likely to promote the carbon sequestration effect of grassland when MAP>800 mm or MAT<15℃, and there was no significant change in SOC stock under different restoration years. However, the effect of forestland restoration on SOC stock was more significant when soil clay content was>32%. Climate conditions had no limited effect on SOC stock in forestland, and there was a positive effect between SOC stock under forestland restoration and restoration years. ③ Vegetation restoration had stronger significant positive effects on mean weight diameter (MWD) and mean geometric diameter (GMD) when the clay content was 20%-32%, and MWD and GMD increased with the increase in vegetation coverage. ④SOC stock growth could explain 25% and 24% of the variation in the effect value of MWD and GMD, respectively. These results indicated that the formation of SOC was the result of multiple factors, and soil aggregate stability was limited only by vegetation coverage and soil clay content. The increase in SOC stock could promote the improvement of water stability MWD and GMD. These results can clarify the carbon sequestration effect of different vegetation restoration measures in water-eroded environments and provide theoretical reference for the restoration and reconstruction of degraded ecosystems.

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to analyze the relationship between serum globulin levels and immune restoration and HIV reservoir size during long-term antiretroviral therapy (ART). METHODS: We enrolled 13 patients living with HIV who had been receiving ART for 5 years. We measured levels of serum globulin, cell-associated (CA) HIV DNA and RNA, and p24 antibody at 0, 1, 3, and 5 years of ART. CD38 and human leukocyte antigen - DR isotype (HLA-DR) were used as activation markers for T-cell activation. Serum concentrations of the inflammatory cytokines interferon gamma-inducible protein (IP)-10 and soluble CD163 (sCD163) were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. We analyzed the relationship between serum globulin levels, HIV reservoir size, immune restoration, T-cell immune activation, and inflammatory levels during long-term ART. RESULTS: Our data showed that serum globulin levels in people living with HIV were higher than in healthy controls and significantly decreased during the first year of ART. Serum globulin levels during long-term ART were positively correlated with CA HIV DNA, CA HIV RNA, p24 antibody levels, and CD8+ T-cell counts and negatively correlated with CD4+ T-cell counts and CD4/CD8 ratios. Moreover, serum globulin levels were positively correlated with CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell activation and the concentrations of inflammatory biomarkers IP-10 and sCD163 during long-term ART. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that serum globulin levels may be associated with HIV reservoir size and immune restoration during long-term ART.

BACKGROUND@#Due to its high water content and biomimetic properties simulating extracellular matrix (ECM), hydrogels have been used as preferred cell culture and delivery systems. Similarly, cell-loaded hydrogels can be easily injected into target areas in a minimally invasive manner, minimizing surgical trauma, adapting to irregular shaped defects, and benefiting patients. In this study, we systematically reviewed multiple studies on hydrogel-based bone defect research and briefly summarized the progress of injectable and cell-loaded hydrogels in bone defect repair. @*METHODS@#A systematic search was conducted in the PubMed and Web of Science databases using selected search terms. @*RESULTS@#Initially, 185 articles were retrieved from the databases. After full-text screening based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, 26 articles were included in this systematic review. Data collected from each study included culture model, seed cell type and origin, cell concentration, scaffold material, scaffold shape, experimental animal and site, bioactive agents, and binding method. This injectable and cell-loaded hydrogel shows certain feasibility in bone tissue engineering applications. @*CONCLUSION@#Injectable and cell-loaded hydrogels have been widely applied in bone tissue engineering research. The future direction of bone tissue engineering for bone defect treatment involves the use of new hydrogel materials and biochemical stimulation.

Ferroptosis is a non-apoptotic regulatory form of cell death that has sparked significant interest and research in cancer treatment and certain small chemical inducers have been used in the clinic. These inducers's weak water solubility, poor targeting, rapid metabolism; and other undesirable characteristics; however, for therapeutic approaches that combine immunotherapy and ferroptosis, challenges such as medication delivery, the complexity of the tumor microenvironment, and immunosuppression remain. The targeted, low toxicity, and efficient distribution benefits of nanotechnology have considerably enhanced the therapeutic efficacy of combining immunotherapy with ferroptosis. This paper describes the distinct mechanism of ferroptosis in tumor therapy and immunotherapy, as well as the application and benefits of nanotechnology in the combination of tumor immunotherapy and ferroptosis.
