RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To describe and discuss the work of a Pharmacy Department for the health-care portal www.viatusalud.com. METHODS: Using a web portal, a Pharmacy Department develops and updates a vademecum on drugs, and answers enquiries by end-users. RESULTS: On December 31, 2002 more than 750 records on drugs were available, and 3030 enquiries had been answered. CONCLUSIONS: With this drug information and online enquiry service, our Pharmacy Department helps meet the demand of health-care information posed by the community and by patients previously seen at Clínica Universitaria. In addition, it allows areas of improvement to be detected in the information to be offered to patients fron a Pharmacy Department, and represents a tertiary source of information for health-care professionals.

RESUMO

Mesenteric panniculitis is a rare disease affecting adipose tissue of the mesentery that may result in the development of large masses in the abdomen. Diffuse chronic or intermittent abdominal pain is the most frequent symptom. It usually follows a benign course though surgery is sometime needed. We describe a patient with recurrent abdominal pain who was diagnosed of mesenteric panniculitis. An abdominal CT scan oriented to the diagnosis and an open laparotomy and biopsy was needed for a definitive diagnosis. A brief review of the literature is added.

RESUMO

The Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) is a disorder of he cholinergic neurotransmition at the presinaptic terminal of the neuromuscular junction. Clinically it is characterized by muscular weakness, hyporeflexia and autonomic dysfunction. In this entity thet presence of antibodies against calcium channels impair acetylcholine release. Whe used cyclosporin-A in a patient with LEMS and this resulted in a complete clinical and neurophysiological recovery after four months of therapy.

RESUMO

Obliterant Bronchiolitis is an anatomo-clinical entity known years ago. It is recognized as a evolutive form of different processes, including Extrinsic Allergic Alveolitis, Pneumonitis due to gas inhalation, viral processes and Rheumatoid Lung. It has been recently identified as a disease with specific characteristics in the context of interstitial idiopathic pneumonia with bronchiolar involvement and a distinctive anatomo-pathological character. From the clinical and radiological point of view it requires a broad differential diagnosis, which is confirmed definitively in the anatomopathological exam obtained through minithoracotomy. Therapeutic response to corticosteroids is good even thought it shows a trend to relapse when they are decreased or stopped. We discuss the cases of three patients who were studied recently, showing their clinical, radiological and anatomopathological features together with the therapeutic response, which is positive, in different periods of the evolution course.
