RESUMO

Epidemiological investigation of two randomized groups of men born in 1916-1935 (3908 men in Moscow, 3907 in Leningrad) has shown that in both populations there is a direct relationship between the arterial pressure (AP) and the level of total cholesterol (CS), triglycerides (TG) and cholesterol lipoproteids of high density (CS-LPHD) in blood plasma. A strong correlation between the level of the systolic arterial pressure (SAP) and age has been established. Age variations of the lipid levels were insignificant. The total CS, TG, SAP levels and the diastolic AP increase with the growth of the relative body weight, while the CS-LPHD level decreases. In the group engaged in manual labour the total CS and TG levels are simultaneously lowered and those of CS-LPHD and SAP elevated. There is a direct relationship between the level of CS-LPHD, AP and alcohol intake. Smoking somewhat lowers the level of CS-LPHD and AP. The direct relationship between AP and the level of CS-LPHD remains after complex analysis including all the factors studied.

RESUMO

A representative random sampling of men aged 30-49 was examined. There was found a statistically significant correlation between basal insulinemia and blood serum levels of total cholesterole, high density lipoprotein cholesterole and triglycerides. No precise data were obtained on the correlation of the fasting basal insulin level in blood, and glycemia as well as insulinemia and glycemia during the glucose tolerance test with the blood pressure level.

RESUMO

It is shown that phenotypic correlation of atherogenic index (AI)-[(total cholesterol--HDL-cholesterol)/HDL-cholesterol] with liability to IHD equals to 0.47. Based on AI values, the discrimination of individuals into the groups with IHD and without it could be obtained with the error of 29%. Intrapair correlations in the groups of twins and offspring-parent are as follows: rmz = 0.669 (125 pairs), rdz = 0.342 (228 pairs), rop = 0.466 (65 pairs). Partition of AI total phenotypic variance based on correlations among relatives by the least square method allowed to obtain the following estimates: Ga = 68.5%, Ew = 31.5%. Based on the monogenic model, inheritance of "hyper-AI" phenotype (AI higher than the 90% threshold of normal distribution) corresponds to the quasidominant mode with the parameters: p = 12.8% (frequency of the "hyper-AI" allele), II2 = 78.8% (penetrance of homozygotes for the tested allele), II1 = 39.4% (penetrance of heterozygotes) provided that penetrance of opposite homozygotes II0 = 0.

RESUMO

Spin probe, a stearic acid derivative, was used to study the structural features of different lipoproteins (LP) from plasma of subjects with different plasma level of high density LP (HDLP). Access of spin probe located in the internal nonpolar regions of HDLP for the reducer, ascorbic acid, was higher in hyperalphalipoproteinemia than in mean values of HDLP cholesterol concentration. An analogous effect was seen in subjects with LP of very low density. Possible causes of such differences as well as their role in biochemical reactions that proceed with LP participation are discussed.

RESUMO

In epidemiological studies of cardiovascular diseases, in order to determine excessive body weight and its significance in the spread and development of ischemic heart disease among different populations it is necessary to use the best index characterizing the height-weight relationships and meeting such requirements as independence of growth and high correlation with weight. Analysis showed that the index weight/height2 may be used to determine excessive weight in 40--59-year-old males living in one of the Moscow districts. A 30.0 kg/m2 or higher value of this index is evidence of excessive increase in body mass.

RESUMO

The examination of 1073 males ranging in age from 40 to 59 living in Moscow and Leningrad, and of 146 patients with ischemic heart disease showed a decrease in the alpha-lipoprotein cholesterol level and an increase in the cholesterol content of atherogenic fractions (beta- and pre-beta-lipoproteins) in individuals with ischemic heart disease in the absence of hyperlipoproteinemia (HLP). In combination of ischemic heart disease with hyperlipoproteinemia these changes are pronounced to a larger degree. From the analysis of the results of the studies it is suggested that the coefficient (see article) is determined to reveal disorders in lipoprotein metabolism particularly in the absence of hyperlipoproteinemia. This coefficient is significantly higher in individuals with ischemic heart disease and no hyperlipoproteinemia than in healthy males of the same age group; its value is highest in ischemic disease with hyperlipoproteinemia.

RESUMO

From the blood plasma of 34 patients with ischemic heart disease and hyperlipoproteinemia and without it and in 10 practically healthy persons prostaglandins E, A and F2alpha were isolated and the proportion of each one of them was determined by the radioimmunological method. Changes in the quantitative composition of the blood plasma prostaglandins in patients with ischemic heart disease and hyperlipoproteinemia were disclosed, these changes suggesting the participation of the substances in question in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.
