RESUMO

Respiratory papillomatosis was studied clinically and morphologically in 35 children with immunohistochemical detection of human papilloma virus. More frequent detection of viral antigen in the superficial layers of the epithelium in children with frequent recurrences was observed. Correlation between clinical efficiency of prospidine and immunohistochemical findings was noted. Suggestion on the indirect link between viral damage and intranuclear inclusions (although viral antigen in these inclusion was not observed) was made.

RESUMO

The article presents a brief review of the literature on the problem of nosocomial sinusitis (NS) and the experience with 264 patients with craniocerebral trauma in whom NS etiology and pathogenesis were established basing on the findings of microbiological, morphological and immunological studies. Gram-negative opportunistic microflora appeared to be an underlying cause in etiology of NS. Regional microcirculatory disorders due to a severe craniocerebral trauma as well as suppression of nonspecific resistance and immunity contributed most of all to pathogenesis of the disease. Combination of unfavourable etiological and pathogenetic factors in patients with a craniocerebral trauma led to development of NS.

RESUMO

A new separation medium, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-g-poly(ethyleneoxide) (PNI-PAM-g-PEO) solution, used for double-stranded (ds) DNA separation by capillary electrophoresis (CE) is presented. This type of grafted copolymer has a good self-coating ability for quartz capillary tubing and a slightly temperature-dependent viscosity-adjustable property, making it easier to use. One bp resolution was achieved within 12.5 min by using 8% w/v PNIPAM-gPEO in 1 x TBE (Tris-borate-ethylenediaminetetraaceticacid) buffer with an effective column length of 10 cm and an applied electric field strength of 200 V/cm. The PNIPAM-g-PEO solutions had a high sieving ability for relatively small sized DNAs with the relative standard derivation for the first 10 runs being less than 0.9% by using the same polymer solution. With 8% w/v PNIPAM-g-PEO solution in a 1.5 cm column and 2400 V as the running voltage, phiX174/HaeIII digest could be clearly separated within 24 s.

RESUMO

A clinicomorphological examination of the respiratory organs has been conducted in 25 adults and 30 children who died after abdominal surgery. The authors compared the findings of light and immunofluorescent microscopy with laboratory and clinical evidence. Acute respiratory infections revealed in the examinees appeared of different etiology, many of them proved to be mixed. Viral and Mycoplasma infections were most prevalent and severe. Bacterial pneumonias occurred rarely, were clinically inapparent, often arose preoperatively. Weak aspiration indicated the absence of a direct relation between respiratory infections and disorders of bronchial drainage due to surgery performed.

RESUMO

The organs were morphologically studied in 21 children at the age of 4 days to 12 who died of or were operated for "prune belly" syndrome. Muscle hypoplasia and muscle aplasia in 2 cases in the anterior abdominal wall were found. Dysplastic processes with chronic pyelonephritis and ureteritis were observed in the kidneys and ureters. The relation of kidney and ureter dysplasia with intrauterine cytomegaly was suspected in 4 cases.

RESUMO

A classification of congenital malformations of the larynx was developed on the basis of 61 observations. All the malformations were subdivided into organ (20 cases) and tissue (41 cases) defects. Organ congenital malformations of the larynx included: dysgenesis of the cartilage stroma, dystopia, and vascular lesions. Tissue congenital malformations of the larynx included: dysplasia, hypoplasia, and dyschronia. The most severe form of organ malformations was dysgenesis of the cricoid cartilage that required surgical intervention in all cases. The most frequent form of tissue malformations was dysplasia (24 cases) of connective, cystic (polypous), or mixed type. Every form of congenital malformations of the larynx are described, and their specific features and prognosis are discussed.

RESUMO

As many as 20 patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) were examined for the efficacy of oxygen pressure chamber therapy (OPCT) combined with drugs. Optimal modes of OPCT were elaborated. The treatment consisted of 10-15 daily sessions with the partial oxygen pressure 0.25 MPa and the exposition 50-60 minutes. The treatment with compressed oxygen arrested or decreased heart pain, improved sleep. OPCT ameliorated the ECG readings, raised exercise tolerance, and made lipid metabolism return to normal. Satisfactory long-term results have also been obtained.

RESUMO

The analysis of morphological, clinical and bacteriological data on 31 deceased children with pneumococcal meningoencephalitis is presented. The lesions observed at early and late stages of the disease are characterized in detail and the tendency of pneumococcal meningoencephalitis to a chronic course in the presence of the viable pathogen is shown. The majority of pneumococcal meningoencephalitides were proved to develop primarily, and in their pathogenesis significant role is played by the lesions of hematoencephalic barrier caused by respiratory viruses. High lethality and frequency of severe residual changes in the children with pneumococcal meningoencephalitis are due to early lesions of choroid plexuses and brain matter. In the experiment on 18 rabbits with their suboccipital challenge with 3 different pneumococcal strains, the influence of the biological properties of the pathogen on the clinical and morphological features of the illness is shown.

RESUMO

Respiratory organs of 35 patients older than 60 years, taken at random: dying after the operation with pneumonia, were studied. Pneumonia was of a various etiology, including respiratory mycoplasmosis in 13 patients. The latter was induced by Myc. pneumoniae, this being proved by immunofluorescent and serological examination. Small-focal lesions including characteristic changes of alveolocytes and bronchocytes were found in the lungs. Clinico-anatomical comparison allowed the conclusion that respiratory mycoplasmosis developed not infrequently before the operation.
