RESUMO

Benign lymphangioendothelioma (BL) is a rare, poorly identified, slow-growing benign vascular lesion characterized by asymptomatic, solitary, well-demarcated macules, or by mildly infiltrated plaque. We report a case of an atypical BL that arose as a tender, protuberant, flesh-colored mass with cyanotic vesicles, and then progressed to a persistent exudative wound after two incomplete excisions. The patient was also diagnosed with thoracic duct narrowing. Although the stenosis was removed by surgery, the right lower extremity ulceration and exudation did not improve. Thus, we performed a thorough excision and split-thickness skin graft transplant following vacuum sealing drainage, and eventually the patient had a favorable functional and cosmetic outcome. A biopsy revealed irregular, dilated vascular spaces lined with a single layer of flat endothelial cells extending from the superficial dermis to the subcutis that did not reach the striated muscles. Additionally, by reviewing the literature on BL, in this paper we summarize the diverse pathogenic, morphological, and immunohistochemical presentations for this rare disease, as well as the histopathological differential diagnosis of lymphangiomatosis, Kaposi's sarcoma, and angiosarcoma.

RESUMO

This study set out to determine the key metabolite changes underlying the pathophysiology of severe preeclampsia (PE) using metabolic analysis. We collected sera from 10 patients with severe PE and from 10 healthy pregnant women of the same trimester and analyzed them using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. A total of 3,138 differential metabolites were screened, resulting in the identification of 124 differential metabolites. Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes pathway analysis revealed that they were mainly enriched in the following metabolic pathways: central carbon metabolism in cancer; protein digestion and absorption; aminoacyl-transfer RNA biosynthesis; mineral absorption; alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism; and prostate cancer. After analysis of 124 differential metabolites, 2-hydroxybutyric acid was found to be the most critical differential metabolite, and its use allowed the differentiation of women with severe PE from healthy pregnant women. In summary, our analysis revealed that 2-hydroxybutyric acid is a potential key metabolite for distinguishing severe PE from healthy controls and is also a marker for the early diagnosis of severe PE, thus allowing early intervention.

RESUMO

Among gynecological cancers, cervical cancer is a common malignancy and remains the leading cause of cancer-related death for women. However, the exact molecular pathogenesis of cervical cancer is not known. Hence, understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying cervical cancer pathogenesis will aid in the development of effective treatment modalities. In this research, we attempted to discern candidate biomarkers for cervical cancer by using multiple bioinformatics approaches. First, we performed differential expression analysis based on cervical squamous cell carcinoma and endocervical adenocarcinoma data from The Cancer Genome Atlas database, then used differentially expressed genes for weighted gene co-expression network construction to find the most relevant gene module for cervical cancer. Next, the Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analyses were performed on the module genes, followed by using protein-protein interaction network analysis and Cytoscape to find the key gene. Finally, we validated the key gene by using multiple online sites and experimental methods. Through weighted gene co-expression network analysis, we found the turquoise module was the highest correlated module with cervical cancer diagnosis. The biological process of the module genes focused on cell proliferation, cell adhesion, and protein binding processes, while the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway of the module significantly enriched pathways related to cancer and cell circle. Among the module genes, SOX9 was identified as the hub gene, and its expression was associated with cervical cancer prognosis. We found the expression of SOX9 correlates with cancer-associated fibroblast immune infiltration in immune cells by Timer2.0. Furthermore, cancer-associated fibroblast infiltration is linked to cervical cancer patients' prognosis. Compared to those in normal adjacent, immunohistochemical and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) showed that the protein and mRNA expression of SOX9 in cervical cancer were higher. Therefore, the SOX9 gene acts as an oncogene in cervical cancer, interactive with immune infiltration of cancer-associated fibroblasts, thereby affecting the prognosis of patients with cervical cancer.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Mutations in genes associated with deafness differ between ethnic groups and regions in China. In this study, we investigated the genes associated with deafness in pregnant women to analyze the distribution of mutations leading to deafness in Zhuzhou, China. METHODS: A total of 10,684 pregnant women were enrolled in this study. DNA samples were collected to detect the 14 common mutations in deafness genes (at 108 sites). RESULTS: Prevalence of mutations in deafness genes in pregnant women with normal hearing in Zhuzhou was 4.92% (526/10,684). Among these 526 pregnant women with deafness gene mutations, the frequencies of mutated GJB2, GJB3, SLC26A4, and mtDNA 12S rRNA were 40.11, 7.22, 40.68, and 11.98%, respectively. The hotspots for mutations in the deafness genes were: c.235delC in GJB2 (31.18%), c.919-2A > G in SLC26A4 (18.44%), c.299_300delAT in GJB2 (5.70%), m.7444G > A in mtDNA 12S rRNA (5.70%), c.1229C > T in SLC26A4 (5.51%), m.1555A > G in mtDNA 12S rRNA (5.32%), accounting for 71.85%. Moreover, husbands of the 526 pregnant women who carried the deafness gene mutations were also included in the analysis to detect deafness gene mutations. Among the 526 husbands, 23 husbands carried mutations in deafness genes, accounting for 4.37%. The deafness gene mutations of the husbands and pregnant wives were not the same. In addition, the results of the neonatal follow-up hearing tests were all normal. CONCLUSION: Our study identified the prevalence of mutations in GJB2, SLC26A4, mtDNA 12S rRNA, and GJB3 genes in pregnant women from Zhuzhou, China.

RESUMO

The dynamical properties of adsorption media confined in micropores play an important role in the adsorptive separation of fluids. However, a problem is that it is difficult to directly use approaches based on experimental measurements. Molecular simulation has been an effective tool for investigating the diffusion of fluids on the microscale in recent years. In this work, the diffusion properties of methane in quartz were mainly investigated from a microscale viewpoint using MD (molecular dynamics) methods, and this paper primarily discusses the influence of parameters such as pressure, temperature, pore size and water content on the diffusion and thermodynamic parameters of methane in slit-like quartz pores. The results demonstrate that the transport ability of quartz pores decreases with an increase in pressure in pores of a fixed size at a certain temperature and increases with an increase in pore size or temperature at a fixed pressure, which is related to changes in the interaction between methane molecules and quartz. In the pressure range used in the simulation, the average isosteric heat of adsorption of methane increases with an increase in pressure and is in the range of 6.52-10.794 kJ mol-1. Therefore, the gas adsorption behavior is classed as physical adsorption because the heat of adsorption is significantly lower than the minimum heat of gas adsorption for chemisorption. The increase in the total adsorption entropy is caused by an increase in temperature due to an increase in internal energy, which brings about a reduction in the interactions between gas molecules and walls of quartz. However, with an increase in pore size the total adsorption entropy increases, for which an explanation may be that in pores of a larger size methane molecules are adsorbed at higher-energy sites and generate a higher isosteric heat, which causes a reduction in interactions between the adsorbate and adsorbent. Regarding the influence of different water contents on the diffusion of methane, it was demonstrated that with an increase in moisture the mobility of methane molecules initially increases and then decreases, which is related to the distance between gas molecules.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To assess the associations between occupational exposure to biocides and pesticides and risk of thyroid cancer. METHODS: Using data from a population-based case-control study involving 462 incident thyroid cancer cases and 498 controls in Connecticut collected in 2010-2011, we examined the association with occupational exposure to biocides and pesticides through a job-exposure matrix. We used unconditional logistic regression models to estimate OR and 95% CI, adjusting for potential confounders. RESULTS: Individuals who were occupationally ever exposed to biocides had an increased risk of thyroid cancer (OR=1.65, 95% CI 1.16 to 2.35), and the highest risk was observed for the high cumulative probability of exposure (OR=2.18, 95% CI 1.28 to 3.73). The observed associations were similar when we restricted to papillary thyroid cancer and well-differentiated thyroid cancer. Stronger associations were observed for thyroid microcarcinomas (tumour size ≤1 cm). No significant association was observed for occupational exposure to pesticides. CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides the first evidence linking occupational exposure to biocides and risk of thyroid cancer. The results warrant further investigation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To establish the norm of occupational stress on the professionals in Chengdu and Chongqing area. METHODS: According to the "Occupation Sorting Canon in the People's Republic of China", the professionals of the above-mentioned area were sorted out and randomly stratified. The normative data were derived from a sample of 2 064 participants. The modified Occupation Stress Inventory Revised Edition (OSI-R) was used to test the targets' occupational stress level (including stressors, strain and coping resources). RESULTS: (1) In these professionals, the sex ratio was about 1:1, average age (36.4 +/- 9.4) years, average length of service (15.9 +/- 10.0) years, 63.07% people were college educated and over 80% married. (2) Descriptive statistics for OSI-R scale scores for the total normative sample, for gender samples and for occupational group samples were modulated. (3) The gender norm showed that there were heavier role overload and stronger occupational strains in males than those in females (P < 0.01). The score of personal resources in the males was not different from that in females (P > 0.05). (4) In terms of different occupations, the scores of occupational role and personal strain among various groups indicated significant differences (P < 0.01). The score of personal resources did not manifest difference (P > 0.05). (5) The major factors influencing OSI-R were sex, occupation and length of service. CONCLUSION: The norm established can basically represent the occupational stress on professionals in Chengdu and Chongqing area.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To establish the scale of the norm of occupational stress on the professionals and put it into practice. METHODS: T scores were linear transformations of raw scores, derived to have a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10. The scale standard of the norm was formulated in line with the principle of normal distribution. RESULTS: (1) For the occupational role questionnaire (ORQ) and personal strain questionnaire (PSQ) scales, high scores suggested significant levels of occupational stress and psychological strain, respectively. T scores >/= 70 indicated a strong probability of maladaptive stress, debilitating strain, or both. T scores in 60 approximately 69 suggested mild levels of maladaptive stress and strain, and in 40 approximately 59 were within one standard deviation of the mean and should be interpreted as being within normal range. T scores < 40 indicated a relative absence of occupational stress or psychological strain. For the personal resources questionnaire (PRQ) scales, high scores indicated highly developed coping resources. T scores < 30 indicated a significant lack of coping resources. T scores in 30 approximately 39 suggested mild deficits in coping skills, and in 40 approximately 59 indicated average coping resources, where as higher scores (i.e., >/= 60) indicated increasingly strong coping resources. (2) This study provided raw score to T-score conversion tables for each OSI-R scale for the total normative sample as well as for gender, and several occupational groups, including professional engineer, professional health care, economic business, financial business, law, education and news. OSI-R profile forms for total normative samples, gender and occupation were also offered according to the conversion tables. CONCLUSION: The norm of occupational stress can be used as screening tool, organizational/occupational assessment, guide to occupational choice and intervention measures.
