RESUMO

Upregulated expression of nucleolar GTPase nucleostemin (NS) has been associated with increased cellular proliferation potential and tumor malignancy during cancer development. Recent reports attribute the growth regulatory effects of NS protein to its role in facilitating ribosome production. However, the oncogenic potential of NS remains unclear, as imbalanced levels of NS have been reported to exert growth inhibitory effect by modulating p53 tumor-suppressor activity. It also remains in questions if aberrant NS levels might have a p53-independent role in regulation of cell proliferation and growth. In this study, we performed affinity purification and mass spectrometry analysis to explore protein-protein interactions influencing NS growth regulatory properties independently of p53 tumor suppressor. We identified the alternative reading frame (ARF) protein as a key protein associating with NS and further verified the interaction through in vitro and in vivo assays. We demonstrated that NS is able to regulate cell cycle progression by regulating the stability of the ARF tumor suppressor. Furthermore, overexpression of NS suppressed ARF polyubiquitination by its E3 ligase Ubiquitin Ligase for ARF and elongated its half-life, whereas knockdown of NS led to the decrease of ARF levels. Also, we found that NS can enhance NPM stabilization of ARF. Thus, we propose that in the absence of p53, ARF can be stabilized by NS and nucleophosmin to serve as an alternative tumor-suppressor surveillance, preventing potential cellular transformation resulting from the growth-inducing effects of NS overexpression.

RESUMO

The debate on the relationship between corporate or industrial environmental performance (EP) and financial performance (FP) has yet to be resolved, and studies need to examine the possible moderating effects on the EP-FP link. We argue that industrial EP has a positive effect on FP and that industrial munificence and resource slack can moderate the EP-FP link. Using a dataset from Chinese industrial firms, we examine the direct effect of industrial EP on FP and the indirect effects of industrial munificence and resource slack on the EP-FP link. Our results show that improving corporate or industrial-level EP significantly influences FP and that slack resources play a significant role on the EP-FP link. However, we found no significant moderating effect of industrial munificence on the link.

RESUMO

Based on a content analysis of 533 Chinese listed companies, this study examines how corporate environmental performance affects not only the level of detail of a company's environmental disclosures, but also what information is disclosed. The results show that (1) both poor and good performers have more disclosure than the median (i.e., "mixed") performers, which provides empirical evidence to support a nonlinear relationship between corporate environmental performance and environmental disclosure; (2) poor performers disclose more soft information on environmental performance than good performers, and good performers disclose more solid information; and (3) although poor performers increase disclosure after being exposed as environmental violators, they avoid disclosing negative environmental information, such as the violation and the associated penalties. This study provides additional evidence for a nonlinear relationship between environmental performance and disclosure in emerging markets, and suggests environmental disclosure may not be a valid signal to differentiate good performers from poor performers in contemporary China.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To establish a quantitative method for the determination of kaerophyllin in Chinese medicine Bupleurum smithii ver. parvifolium. METHOD: Kaerophyllin was determined by HPLC, the mobile phase consisted of methanol-water(70:30), the flow rate was 1 ml.min-1, the eluate was monitored with UV detector at 328 nm. RESULT: The average recovery was 97.1% with RSD = 2.15 (n = 5). CONCLUSION: The result was precise and stable. This method was sensitive and its repeatability was excellent. This method may serve determination of kaerophyllin in B. smithii var. parvifolium.

RESUMO

HA layer is sintered onto the surface of zirconia ceramic material. These column-like composite implants and titanium implants were inserted into the femurs of the dogs. The speciments were taken at the third month after operation, and the shear strengths between the implants and bone were measured. The undecalcified bone section containing the composite ceramic implant were cut for light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and elemental analyses of C,P and Zr.Mechanical testing results revealed that the attachment strength of HA-coated zirconia samples is more stronger,as companied with the titanium samples.Histologic evaluations of the undecalcified specimens showed that extremely close juxlaposition of bone to HA-coated zirconia ceramic implants was seen.
