RESUMO

Thermally evaporated molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) doped C60 films, which could change n type features of pristine C60 to form a p type mixed C60 layer, are investigated by x-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. It is found that C60 HOMO progressively shifts closer to the Fermi level after increased MoO3 doping concentration, and final onset of C60 HOMO is pinned at binding energy of 0.20 eV, indicating the formation of p type C60 films. It is proposed that in charge transfer induced p type C60 formation, due to large electron affinity of MoO3 (6.37 eV), electrons from HOMO of C60 could easily transfer to MoO3 to form cations and therefore increase hole concentration, which could gradually push C60 HOMO to the Fermi level and finally form p type C60 films. Moreover, clear different types of C60 species have been confirmed from UPS spectra in highly doped films.

RESUMO

Core-shell structured Fe3O4@Bi2WO6 composite microspheres (Fe3O4 microspheres as core and Bi2WO6 nanoplates as shell) have been fabricated in a facile and cost effective reflux way. Such fabricated Fe3O4@Bi2WO6 composites show good visible-light driven photocatalytic performance on degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) from solution in presence of H2O2. More importantly, they can be easily harvested from aqueous system for recycle with small loss of their photocatalytic activity upon applying an external magnet. However, this combination of Bi2WO6 photocatalytic activity and Fe3O4 magnetic property endows such composite with a bright perspective in low cost waste water treatment by taking full advantage of solar energy.

We explore topological phase transition, which involves the energy spectra of field-induced spin-density-wave (FISDW) states in quasi-one dimensional (Q1D) organic conductors, using an extended Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model. We show that, in presence of half magnetic-flux FISDW state, the system exhibits topologically nontrivial phases, which can be characterized by a nonzero Chern number. The nontrivial evolution of the bulk bands with chemical potential in a topological phase transition is discussed. We show that the system can have a similar phase diagram which is discussed in the Haldane's model. We suggest that the topological feature should be tested experimentally in this organic system. These studies enrich the theoretical research on topologically nontrivial phases in the Q1D lattice system as compared to the Haldane topological phase appearing in the two-dimensional lattices.

BACKGROUND: The current methods used for diagnosing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are unsatisfactory. Here, we assessed the serum levels of secreted frizzled related protein 4 (sFRP-4) for diagnosing HCC in patients infected with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). METHODS: In 272 patients with CHB enrolled, 142 were patients with HCC. Thirty-three healthy subjects were recruited as healthy controls. The CHB patients were assigned to a test group or a validation group based on the time of enrollment. Human antibody arrays were used to screen 15 patients (8 CHB-related HCC patients, 7 CHB patients) for serum markers. Four markers and one candidate marker were assessed in the test group and validation group, respectively. RESULTS: Human antibody assays indicated that the serum levels of sFRP-4 in HCC patients were significantly higher than those in CHB patients (P<0.05). Additionally, serum sFRP-4 levels were significantly higher in the HCC patients than those in the non-HCC patients in both test group (79.7 vs 41.3 ng/mL; P<0.001) and validation group (89.0 vs 39.0 ng/mL; P<0.001). Areas under the Receiver Operating Characteristic curves (AUCs) for alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and sFRP-4 were similar in both test group and validation group. In the test group, the combination of sFRP-4 (a sensitivity of 94.4%, a specificity of 60.5% at 46.4 ng/mL) and AFP (a sensitivity of 75.0%, a specificity of 87.2% at 11.3 ng/mL) showed better performance for diagnosing HCC (a sensitivity of 79.2% and a specificity of 95.3%). The AUC for combined sFRP-4 and AFP increased to 0.941 (95% CI: 0.908-0.975), and similar results were seen in the validation group. CONCLUSION: sFRP-4 is a candidate serum marker for diagnosing HCC in CHB patients, and the combination of sFRP-4 with AFP may improve the diagnostic accuracy of HCC.
