RESUMO

45 patients (50 eyes) with anterior endogenous uveitis of various ethiology were included into the study. Examination included traditional ophthalmologic evaluation, laboratory testing and Optical Coherent Tomography (Stratus OCT 3000 "Carl Zeiss Meditec"). Retinal foveola thickness was showed to be 194-350 microm in 38 eyes (76%) compared with control group (everage value 172+21 microm). The average central macular thickness in examined group was 222+26 microm, it is more than in control group by 50 microm (p < 0.05). These results allow us to suggest that the majority of patients with anterior eye inflammation have inflammatory changes in posterior segment.

RESUMO

Solid-phase enzyme immunoassay was used to study the serum levels of the antiendoxin IgA, IgM, IgG antibodies and total immunoglobulins of classes A, M, and G in 62 patients (122 eyes) with type 2 diabetes mellitus at different stages of diabetic retinopathy. Patients with diabetic retinopathy concurrent with type 2 diabetes mellitus were found to have a significant imbalance of antiendotoxin immunity. The highest level of anti-lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-IgA was detected in patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy that exhibited macular edema, single or multiple aneurysms, hemorrhages, portions of solid lipid exudate and preproliferative diabetic retinopathy, in addition to vascular changes. Much lower levels of anti-LPS-IgA were found in nonproliferative retinopathy in which only retinal vascular changes and in proliferative diabetic retinopathy were noted. The patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy complicated by neovascular glaucoma were ascertained to have the lowest levels of antiendotoxin antibodies of all the classes. As compared with the control group, the patients of all groups had the decreased levels of anti-LPS-IgM. The paper presents the results of a correlation analysis of the relationship of the parameters of antiendotoxin immunity to the levels of total immunoglobulins.

RESUMO

The contents of NO stable metabolites in tears, and blood serum of the patients with different stages of open-angle glaucoma have been studied. The increasing of NO stable metabolite contents was found in tears, aqueous humor and blood serum during glaucoma progression. The depletion of glaucoma pathogenesis oxidative link was found at the terminal stage of the disease. The results of our investigation are proposed to be used for glaucoma diagnostic.

RESUMO

The authors analyze the relationships between individual immune components at a cellular level and evaluate their significance in development of proliferative processes. Ocular tissues from diabetics who died from cardiovascular failure and stroke and from subjects who died from traumas (control) were examined by immunohistochemical methods. The results evidence increased counts of T lymphocytes and high expression of ICAM-1 in ocular tissues of diabetics, which suggests an important role of these factors in development of diabetic retinopathy.

RESUMO

Central retinal vein occlusion is one of the most frequently encountered vascular affections of the retina. In spite of this its management is still a matter of debate. Histopathological findings have prompted us to conduct a study in patients presenting with central retinal vein occlusion (n = 63). Exposure to plasmapheresis as treatment of the above condition (1 to 3 sessions) resulted in a significant retardation of erythrocyte aggregation, decrease in fibrinogen concentration, and in the hematocrit value, and a prolongation of activated thromboplastin time. The results obtained suggest that plasmapheresis can be recommended for use in the treatment of central retinal vein occlusion.

RESUMO

Scrapings off the inferior conjunctival plica were studied in 15 patients with Sjogren's disease and 15 ones with Sjogren's syndrome. The cytology of the conjunctiva in patients with Sjogren's disease or syndrome reliably differed from that in normal subjects. Irrespective of the form and stage of the underlying disease, changes in the conjunctival epithelium of patients with dry kerato-conjunctivitis reflected the processes of squamous-cell metaplasia with loss of goblet cells. Five variants of the cytologic picture of involved conjunctival epithelium are distinguished. The authors come to a conclusion about the efficacy of cytologic studies in a complex of examinations of patients with Sjogren's disease and syndrome.

RESUMO

A study of the eye-ground during the first three days after death revealed regular sequence of changes manifested in a characteristic dynamics of colour, level and relief of the visual nerve disk surface, clarity of its borders, state of arterial and venous vessels. It is suggested that evaluation of the dynamics of postmortal changes of the eye-ground may be used in determining the time of death.

RESUMO

Two cases are described with traumatic ruptures of the cornea (after athletic and occupational injuries along the keratotomic incisions in 4 years and 5 months, respectively, after radial keratotomy for medium-severe myopia. The authors emphasize that patients should be warned of not only possible immediate and late postoperative complications, but also of the risk of corneal rupture in contusions of the eyeball that may occur in the occupational or communal setting.

RESUMO

A comparative study of the visual functions dynamics has been conducted in 81 glaucomatous patients (105 eyes) with normalized intraocular tension, treated by hypotensive preparations of various mechanisms of action. The groups of the patients were maximum identical by their characteristics. The follow-up period was 2 years. It was found that visual functions remain stable in patients treated by beta-blockers and their combination with pilocarpine, while, in patients treated by pilocarpine and alpha-stimulators the results were worse. The less effective were anticholinesterase preparations and combinations of pilocarpine with adrenaline.
