BACKGROUND: In this study, we present the unique case of a patient with knee osteoarthritis (OA) of the medial compartment and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) deficiency who underwent simultaneous medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) and PCL reconstruction. CASE PRESENTATION: A 49-year-old male patient presented with a 1-year history of pain and instability in the left knee. The patient had previously experienced a trauma-related injury to the PCL of the left knee that was left untreated. Imaging and physical examination confirmed the presence of left medial knee OA along with PCL rupture. To address these issues, the patient underwent UKA combined with PCL reconstruction. The patient's Lysholm score was 47 before surgery and 81 three months after surgery, the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score was 29 before surgery and 18 three months after surgery, and the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) subjective score was 56.3 before surgery and 74.7 three months after surgery. Six months after surgery, the patient's gait returned to normal, and he was able to jog. CONCLUSION: This case report presents the first instance of UKA combined with PCL reconstruction and introduces a novel treatment approach for patients suffering from medial knee OA and ligament injury.

OBJECTIVES: Despite the use of multimodal analgesia, patients undergoing knee arthroplasty still encounter residual moderate pain. The addition of betamethasone to local anesthetic has been shown to improve postoperative pain. However, it remains uncertain whether the positive effects of perineural or intravenous administration of betamethasone on analgesia outcomes lead to better early mobility and postoperative recovery. METHODS: Between June 2022 and February 2023, a total of 159 patients who were undergoing knee arthroplasty were included in this study. These patients were allocated randomly into three groups: (i) the NS group, received ropivacaine 0.375% and intravenous 3mL 0.9% normal saline; (ii) the PNB group, received ropivacaine 0.375% plus perineural betamethasone (12mg) 3mL and intravenous 3mL 0.9% normal saline; and (iii) the IVB group, received ropivacaine 0.375% and intravenous betamethasone (12mg) 3mL. RESULTS: Both perineural and intravenous administration of betamethasone led to improved median (IQR) numeric rating scale (NRS) scores on the 6-meter walk test, with a score of 1.0 (1.0-2.0) for both groups, compared with 2.0 (1.0-2.0) for the NS group (p = 0.003). Compared to the NS group, both the PNB and IVB groups showed significant reductions in NRS scores at 24 and 36 h after surgery, along with a significant increase in ROM at 24, 36, and 48 h post-operation. Additionally, it exhibited lower levels of cytokine IL-1ß and TNF-α in fluid samples, as well as lower level of HS-CRP in blood samples in the PNB and IVB groups compared to the NS group. CONCLUSION: The administration of perineural and intravenous betamethasone demonstrated an enhanced analgesic effect following knee arthroplasty. Furthermore, it was associated with reduced levels of IL-1ß, TNF-α, and HS-CRP, as well as enhanced knee ROM, which is conducive to early ambulation and postoperative rehabilitation after knee arthroplasty.

Limiting global warming to 2 °C requires urgent action on land-based mitigation. This study evaluates the biogeochemical and biogeophysical implications of two alternative land-based mitigation scenarios that aim to achieve the same radiative forcing. One scenario is primarily driven by bioenergy expansion (SSP226Lu-BIOCROP), while the other involves re/afforestation (SSP126Lu-REFOREST). We find that overall, SSP126Lu-REFOREST is a more efficient strategy for removing CO2 from the atmosphere by 2100, resulting in a net carbon sink of 242 ~ 483 PgC with smaller uncertainties compared to SSP226Lu-BIOCROP, which exhibits a wider range of -78 ~ 621 PgC. However, SSP126Lu-REFOREST leads to a relatively warmer planetary climate than SSP226Lu-BIOCROP, and this relative warming can be intensified in certain re/afforested regions where local climates are not favorable for tree growth. Despite the cooling effect on a global scale, SSP226Lu-BIOCROP reshuffles regional warming hotspots, amplifying summer temperatures in vulnerable tropical regions such as Central Africa and Southeast Asia. Our findings highlight the need for strategic land use planning to identify suitable regions for re/afforestation and bioenergy expansion, thereby improving the likelihood of achieving the intended climate mitigation outcomes.

Sugarcane is the most important sugar crop and one of the leading energy-producing crops in the world. Ratoon stunting disease (RSD), caused by the bacterium Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli, poses a huge threat to ratoon crops, causing a significant yield loss in sugarcane. Breeding resistant varieties is considered the most effective and fundamental approach to control RSD in sugarcane. The exploration of resistance genes forms the foundation for breeding resistant varieties through molecular technology. The pglA gene is a pathogenicity gene in L. xyli subsp. xyli, encoding an endopolygalacturonase. In this study, the pglA gene from L. xyli subsp. xyli and related microorganisms was analyzed. Then, a non-toxic, non-autoactivating pglA bait was successfully expressed in yeast cells. Simultaneously the yeast two-hybrid library was generated using RNA from the L. xyli subsp. xyli-infected sugarcane. Screening the library with the pglA bait uncovered proteins that interacted with pglA, primarily associated with ABA pathways and the plant immune system, suggesting that sugarcane employs these pathways to respond to L. xyli subsp. xyli, triggering pathogenicity or resistance. The expression of genes encoding these proteins was also investigated in L. xyli subsp. xyli-infected sugarcane, suggesting multiple layers of regulatory mechanisms in the interaction between sugarcane and L. xyli subsp. xyli. This work promotes the understanding of plant-pathogen interaction and provides target proteins/genes for molecular breeding to improve sugarcane resistance to L. xyli subsp. xyli.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to investigate the correlation between lower limb alignment and patient outcomes after lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (LUKA). METHODS: In this retrospective study, the information of 51 patients who underwent lateral UKA was collected after an average of 27months of follow-up (13 to 60 months). Evaluation indicators include the AKS and WOMAC score. The Kellgren-Lawrence grade is used to evaluate the severity of osteoarthritis, while the hip-knee-ankle (HKA) angle is utilized to measure the valgus angle of lower limb alignment. RESULT: Patients with postoperative valgus (≥ 3°) alignment had the best outcomes, while those with varus (≤-3°) alignment had the worst outcomes (p < 0.001). Furthermore, it was noted that patients with preoperative mild valgus (≤ 4°) alignment had worse postoperative outcomes than those with severe valgus (≥ 7°) alignment (p < 0.05). The study also revealed a positive correlation between postoperative valgus and WOMAC scores (p < 0.001), whereas a negative correlation was observed between the change in valgus angle and WOMAC scores (p = 0.005). CONCLUSION: During follow-ups, we found that lower limb alignment seems to be an independent predictor of postoperative outcomes. It is recommended that more than 3° of valgus alignment should be maintained after LUKA. Surgeons performing lateral UKA should be cautious of overcorrecting alignment, particularly in patients with preoperative mild valgus alignment.

The inherent zero-band gap nature of graphene and its fast photocarrier recombination rate result in poor optical gain and responsivity when graphene is used as the light absorption medium in photodetectors. Here, semiconducting graphene nanoribbons with a direct bandgap of 1.8 eV are synthesized and employed to construct a vertical heterojunction photodetector. At a bias voltage of -5 V, the photodetector exhibits a responsivity of 1052 A/W, outperforming previous graphene-based heterojunction photodetectors by several orders of magnitude. The achieved detectivity of 3.13 × 1013 Jones and response time of 310 µs are also among the best values for graphene-based heterojunction photodetectors reported until date. Furthermore, even under zero bias, the photodetector demonstrates a high responsivity and detectivity of 1.04 A/W and 2.45 × 1012 Jones, respectively. The work shows a great potential of graphene nanoribbon-based photodetection technology.

Background: Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP), attributable to Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP), represents a predominant form of community-acquired pneumonia in pediatric populations, thereby posing a significant threat to pediatric health. Given the burgeoning volume of research literature associated with pediatric MPP in recent years, it becomes imperative to undertake a bibliometric analysis aimed at delineating the current research landscape and emerging trends, thereby furnishing a framework for subsequent investigations. Methods: A comprehensive literature search targeting pediatric MPP was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection. After the removal of duplicate entries through Endnote software, the remaining articles were subject to scientometric analysis via Citespace software, VOSviewer software and R language, focusing on variables such as publication volume, contributing nations, institutions and authors, references and keywords. Results: A total of 1,729 articles pertinent to pediatric MPP were included in the analysis. China and the United States emerged as the nations with the highest publication output. Italian scholar Susanna Esposito and Japanese scholar Kazunobu Ouchi were the most influential authors in the domain of pediatric MPP. Highly-cited articles primarily focused on the epidemiological investigation of pediatric MPP, the clinical characteristics and treatment of macrolide-resistant MPP, and biomarkers for refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (RMPP). From the corpus of 1,729 articles, 636 keywords were extracted and categorized into ten clusters: Cluster #0 centered on molecular-level typing of macrolide-resistant strains; Cluster #1 focused on lower respiratory tract co-infections; Clusters #2 and #6 emphasized other respiratory ailments caused by MP; Cluster #3 involved biomarkers and treatment of RMPP; Clusters #4 and #9 pertained to extrapulmonary complications of MPP, Clusters #5 and #7 addressed etiological diagnosis of MPP, and Cluster #8 explored pathogenic mechanisms. Conclusions: The past few years have witnessed extensive attention directed towards pediatric MPP. Research in pediatric MPP principally revolves around diagnostic techniques for MP, macrolide resistance, complications of MPP, treatment and diagnosis of RMPP, and elucidation of pathogenic mechanisms. The present study provides pediatric clinicians and researchers with the research status and focal points in this field, thereby guiding the orientation of future research endeavors.

Previous observational researches have discovered a connection between circulating concentrations of micronutrients and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, the results may be influenced by confounding factors and reverse causation. This study aims to explore the causal relationship between circulating concentrations of micronutrients and ADHD using Mendelian randomization (MR). In a two-sample MR context, we used summary data from the major European genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for these illnesses to assess the genetically anticipated effects of circulating concentrations of micronutrients on ADHD risk. In order to achieve this, we took single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from the GWAS that were highly related with concentrations of nine micronutrients. The corresponding data for ADHD were extracted from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium. Inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method was used as the main MR analysis, and the reliability of the study's conclusions was assessed using sensitivity analyses. Our MR analyses showed that the copper level may be associated with a reduced risk of ADHD. However, the significance of the research results is weak. There were no clear relationships between other micronutrients and ADHD. Our sensitivity studies confirmed the findings of the primary IVW MR analyses. According to this study, there may be some association between copper level and ADHD, but the significance of the research results is weak, and it is recommended that copper level should be used as a long-term monitoring indicator for further research. The results provide a new idea for the further study of ADHD, and provide guidance for the prevention and treatment of ADHD.

Sugarcane, a major sugar and energy crop worldwide faces an increasing demand for higher yields. Identifying yield-related markers and candidate genes is valuable for breeding high-yield varieties using molecular techniques. In this work, seven yield-related traits were evaluated in a diversity panel of 159 genotypes, derived from Tripidium arundinaceum, Saccharum spontaneum, and modern sugarcane genotypes. All traits exhibited significant genetic variance with high heritability and high correlations. Genetic diversity analysis reveals a genomic decay of 23 kb and an average single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) number of 25,429 per genotype. These 159 genotypes were divided into 4 subgroups. Genome-wide association analysis identified 47 SNPs associated with brix, spanning 36 quantitative trait loci (QTLs), and 138 SNPs for other traits across 104 QTLs, covering all 32 chromosomes. Interestingly, 12 stable QTLs associated with yield-related traits were identified, which contained 35 candidate genes. This work provides markers and candidate genes for marker-assisted breeding to improve sugarcane yields.

Fluoride (F-) stress is one of the major environmental pollutant, affecting plant growth, development and production, globally. Acquisition of eco-friendly F- stress reliever seems to be the major concern these days. Consequently, application of engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) has been increasing to improve agri-economy. However, the impact of silicon nanoparticles (Si NPs) on mitigation of F- stress has not been investigated yet. Thus, the present study was conducted to compare their protective roles against F- stress by improving diurnal photosynthetic efficiency of sugarcane plant leaves. An ability of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum cv. GT44) plants to ameliorate F- toxicity assessed through soil culture medium. After an adaptive growth phase, 45 days old plants select to examine F- mitigative efficacy of silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs: 0, 100, 300 and 500 ppm) on sugarcane plants, irrigated by F- contaminated water (0, 100, 200 and 500 ppm). Our results strongly favour that SiNPs enhanced diurnally leaf photosynthetic gas exchange viz., photosynthesis (∼1.0-29%), stomatal conductance (∼3.0-90%), and transpiration rate (∼0.5-43%), significantly, as revealed by increments in photochemical chlorophyll fluorescence efficiency of PS II linked with performance index and photosynthetic pigments during F- stress. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first investigation to explore the impact of SiNPs improving and/or maintaining the diurnal photosynthetic responses in sugarcane plants in response to F- stress. It may also precisely unlayer action of molecular mechanism(s) mediated by SiNPs, found essential for mitigation of F--toxicity to explore nano-phytoremediation approach for crop improvement and agri-economy as well.

Background: Previous researches have demonstrated a connection between psychiatric disorders and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), but the cause-and-effect relationship is still unclear. To that goal, the mendelian randomization (MR) method was used to study the causal link between psychiatric disorders and CVDs. Methods: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) data were collected for four CVDs, including coronary artery disease (n = 547,261), atrial fibrillation (n = 537,409), heart failure (n = 977,323) and ischemic stroke (n = 440,328). Summary data for four psychiatric disorders, including bipolar disorder (n = 51,710), major depressive disorder (n = 480,359), schizophrenia (n = 127,906) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (n = 55,374), came from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium (PGC). All participants were European. The IVW method was mainly used, and the reliability of the results was increased using sensitivity analyses such as MR-Egger, Cochrane's Q test, MR-PRESSO and leave-one-out. Results: MR revealed that the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder was linked to an increased risk of atrial fibrillation (OR, 1.085; 95% CI, 1.021-1.153; P = 0.008), heart failure (OR, 1.117; 95% CI, 1.044-1.195; P = 0.001), and ischemic stroke (OR, 1.146; 95% CI, 1.052-1.248; P = 0.002). The schizophrenia was linked to an increased risk of heart failure (OR, 1.035; 95% CI, 1.006-1.066; P = 0.017), but was found to be suggestively inverse associated with coronary artery disease (OR, 0.969; 95% CI, 0.941-0.997; P = 0.03). The major depressive disorder was associated with higher odds of coronary artery disease (OR, 1.109; 95% CI, 1.018-1.208; P = 0.018), while the bipolar disorder was linked to a reduced incidence of coronary artery disease (OR, 0.894; 95% CI, 0.831-0.961; P = 0.002) and heart failure (OR, 0.889; 95% CI, 0.829-0.955; P = 0.001). There were no clear relationships between other psychiatric disorders and CVDs. Conclusion: The results provide genetic proof of a possible causal relationship between psychiatric disorders and CVDs. These results imply that psychiatric disorders may be the cause of some CVDs, and that some abnormal mental states may increase or reduce the likelihood of CVDs, providing guidance for the CVDs prevention.

Background: No standard maintenance treatment has been obtained to prolong the response duration of soft tissue sarcoma (STS) after first-line chemotherapy. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anlotinib as a maintenance treatment after chemotherapy in STS. Methods: In this multicentre, open-label, single-arm phase 2 trial, patients with advanced STS who achieved partial response or stable disease after first-line anthracycline-based chemotherapy were enrolled between April 2019 and January 2022. All patients received anlotinib as a maintenance treatment. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) of anlotinib maintenance treatment. Other endpoints included overall survival (OS), objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR) and safety. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03890068. Findings: At the data cut-off date (August 8, 2022), 49 patients were enrolled, including 17 with liposarcoma (35%) and 15 with leiomyosarcoma (31%). After a median follow-up of 17.1 months (IQR 9.0-27.2), the median PFS from the beginning of maintenance treatment was 9.1 months (95% CI 5.7-12.5), and the median OS was not reached, and the 1-year OS rate for anlotinib maintenance treatment was 98.0%. The best ORR and DCR were 16% (8/49, 95% CI 7-30) and 94% (46/49, 95% CI 83-99), respectively. Most of the treatment-related adverse events were grade 1-2. Of the grade 3-4 adverse events, the most common were hypertension (10%) and hand-foot syndrome reaction (6%). Interpretation: Postchemotherapy maintenance treatment with anlotinib exhibits promising efficacy and tolerable toxicity in patients with advanced STS. The resonant tunneling diode (RTD) is one of the very few room-temperature-operating quantum devices to date that is able to exhibit negative differential resistance. However, the reported key figure of merit, the current peak-to-valley ratio (PVR), of graphene RTDs has been up to only 3.9 at room temperature thus far. This remains very puzzling, given the atomically flat interfaces of the 2D materials. By varying the active area and perimeter of RTDs based on a graphene/hexagonal boron nitride/graphene heterostructure, we discovered that the edge doping can play a dominant role in determining the resonant tunneling, and a large area-to-perimeter ratio is necessary to obtain a high PVR. The understanding enables establishing a novel design rule and results in a PVR of 14.9, which is at least a factor of 3.8 higher than previously reported graphene RTDs. Furthermore, a theory is developed allowing extraction of the edge doping depth for the first time.

Sugarcane is an important sugar and energy crop worldwide, requiring a large amount of nitrogen (N). However, excessive application of synthetic N fertilizer causes environmental pollution in farmland. Endophytic nitrogen-fixing bacteria (ENFB) provide N nutrition for plants through biological N fixation, thus reducing the need for chemical fertilizers. The present study investigated the effect of the N-fixing endophytic strain Enterobacter roggenkampii ED5 on phytohormone indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), N-metabolism enzyme activities, microbial community compositions, and N cycle genes in sugarcane rhizosphere soil at different N levels. Three levels of 15N-urea, such as low N (0 kg/ha), medium N (150 kg/ha), and high N (300 kg/ha), were applied. The results showed that, after inoculating strain ED5, the IAA content in sugarcane leaves was significantly increased by 68.82% under low N condition at the seedling stage (60 days). The nitrate reductase (NR) activity showed a downward trend. However, the glutamine synthase (GS) and NADH-glutamate dehydrogenase (NADH-GDH) activities were significantly enhanced compared to the control under the high N condition, and the GS and NR genes had the highest expression at 180 and 120 days, respectively, at the low N level. The total N content in the roots, stems, and leaves of sugarcane was higher than the control. The 15N atom % excess of sugarcane decreased significantly under medium N condition, indicating that the medium N level was conducive to N fixation in strain ED5. Metagenome analysis of sugarcane rhizosphere soil exhibited that the abundance of N-metabolizing microbial richness was increased under low and high N conditions after inoculation of strain ED5 at the genus level, while it was increased at the phylum level only under the low N condition. The LefSe (LDA > 2, p < 0.05) found that the N-metabolism-related differential microorganisms under the high N condition were higher than those under medium and low N conditions. It was also shown that the abundance of nifDHK genes was significantly increased after inoculation of ED5 at the medium N level, and other N cycle genes had high abundance at the high N level after inoculation of strain ED5. The results of this study provided a scientific reference for N fertilization in actual sugarcane production.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials possess unique properties primarily due to the quantum confinement effect, which highly depends on their thicknesses. Identifying the number of atomic layers in these materials is a crucial, yet challenging step. However, the commonly used optical reflection method offers only very low contrast. Here, we develop an approach that shows unprecedented sensitivity by analyzing the brightness of dark-field optical images. The brightness of the 2D material edges has a linear dependence on the number of atomic layers. The findings are modeled by Rayleigh scattering, and the results agree well with the experiments. The relative contrast of single-layer graphene can reach 70% under white-light incident conditions. Furthermore, different 2D materials were successfully tested. By adjusting the exposure conditions, we can identify the number of atomic layers ranging from 1 to over 100. Finally, this approach can be applied to various substrates, even transparent ones, making it highly versatile.

Type 2C protein phosphatases (PP2Cs) represent a major group of protein phosphatases in plants, some of which have already been confirmed to play important roles in diverse plant processes. In this study, analyses of the phylogenetics, gene structure, protein domain, chromosome localization, and collinearity, as well as an identification of the expression profile, protein-protein interaction, and subcellular location, were carried out on the PP2C family in wild sugarcane (Saccharum spontaneum). The results showed that 145 PP2C proteins were classified into 13 clades. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that SsPP2Cs are evolutionarily closer to those of sorghum, and the number of SsPP2Cs is the highest. There were 124 pairs of SsPP2C genes expanding via segmental duplications. Half of the SsPP2C proteins were predicted to be localized in the chloroplast (73), with the next most common predicted localizations being in the cytoplasm (37) and nucleus (17). Analysis of the promoter revealed that SsPP2Cs might be photosensitive, responsive to abiotic stresses, and hormone-stimulated. A total of 27 SsPP2Cs showed cold-stress-induced expressions, and SsPP2C27 (Sspon.01G0007840-2D) and SsPP2C64 (Sspon.03G0002800-3D) were the potential hubs involved in ABA signal transduction. Our study presents a comprehensive analysis of the SsPP2C gene family, which can play a vital role in the further study of phosphatases in wild sugarcane. The results suggest that the PP2C family is evolutionarily conserved, and that it functions in various developmental processes in wild sugarcane.

BACKGROUND: Polygoni Cuspidati Rhizoma et Radix (PCRR), a well-known traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), inhibits inflammation associated with various human diseases. However, the anti-inflammatory effects of PCRR in acute lung injury (ALI) and the underlying mechanisms of action remain unclear. AIM: To determine the ingredients related to PCRR for treatment of ALI using multiple databases to obtain potential targets for fishing. METHODS: Recognized and candidate active compounds for PCRR were obtained from Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology, STITCH, and PubMed databases. Target ALI databases were built using the Therapeutic Target, DrugBank, DisGeNET, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man, and Genetic Association databases. Network pharmacology includes network construction, target prediction, topological feature analysis, and enrichment analysis. Bioinformatics resources from the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery were utilized for gene ontology biological process and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes network pathway enrichment analysis, and molecular docking techniques were adopted to verify the combination of major active ingredients and core targets. RESULTS: Thirteen bioactive compounds corresponding to the 433 PCRR targets were identified. In addition, 128 genes were closely associated with ALI, 60 of which overlapped with PCRR targets and were considered therapeutically relevant. Functional enrichment analysis suggested that PCRR exerted its pharmacological effects in ALI by modulating multiple pathways, including the cell cycle, cell apoptosis, drug metabolism, inflammation, and immune modulation. Molecular docking results revealed a strong associative relationship between the active ingredient and core target. CONCLUSION: PCRR alleviates ALI symptoms via molecular mechanisms predicted by network pharmacology. This study proposes a strategy to elucidate the mechanisms of TCM at the network pharmacology level.

Sugarcane is an important sugar and bioenergy source and a significant component of the economy in various countries in arid and semiarid. It requires more synthetic fertilizers and fungicides during growth and development. However, the excess use of synthetic fertilizers and fungicides causes environmental pollution and affects cane quality and productivity. Plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) indirectly or directly promote plant growth in various ways. In this study, 22 PGPB strains were isolated from the roots of the sugarcane variety GT42. After screening of plant growth-promoting (PGP) traits, it was found that the DJ06 strain had the most potent PGP activity, which was identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and green fluorescent protein (GFP) labeling technology confirmed that the DJ06 strain successfully colonized sugarcane tissues. The complete genome sequencing of the DJ06 strain was performed using Nanopore and Illumina sequencing platforms. The results showed that the DJ06 strain genome size was 64,90,034 bp with a G+C content of 66.34%, including 5,912 protein-coding genes (CDSs) and 12 rRNA genes. A series of genes related to plant growth promotion was observed, such as nitrogen fixation, ammonia assimilation, siderophore, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC), deaminase, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) production, auxin biosynthesis, phosphate metabolism, hydrolase, biocontrol, and tolerance to abiotic stresses. In addition, the effect of the DJ06 strain was also evaluated by inoculation in two sugarcane varieties GT11 and B8. The length of the plant was increased significantly by 32.43 and 12.66% and fresh weight by 89.87 and 135.71% in sugarcane GT11 and B8 at 60 days after inoculation. The photosynthetic leaf gas exchange also increased significantly compared with the control plants. The content of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) was enhanced and gibberellins (GA) and abscisic acid (ABA) were reduced in response to inoculation of the DJ06 strain as compared with control in two sugarcane varieties. The enzymatic activities of oxidative, nitrogen metabolism, and hydrolases were also changed dramatically in both sugarcane varieties with inoculation of the DJ06 strain. These findings provide better insights into the interactive action mechanisms of the P. aeruginosa DJ06 strain and sugarcane plant development.

OBJECTIVE: Bone cement releases a large amount of heat as it polymerizes. Skin burns caused by discarded bone cement are not well understood during arthroplasty. It is important to study the correlates and mechanisms of scalding and to accurately evaluate the severity of burns to guide treatment decisions. METHODS: Standardized burns were created in eight anesthetized rabbits using different thicknesses of bone cement. Bone cement was uniformly stirred to make thicknesses of 1 mm, 4 mm, 8 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, and 20 mm and a 20 × 40 mm cuboid. Bone cement samples were then placed on the back of a rabbit, and the temperature changes were recorded with an industrial digital thermometer. One hour later, the appearance of scalded skin was observed, and the rabbits were euthanized. The scalded parts were cut to make pathological sections and stained with HE, and the differences in the depth of the scalded skin caused by different thicknesses of bone cement were observed under a light microscope. RESULTS: Damage caused by 1 mm-, 4 mm-, 8 mm-, 12 mm-, 16 mm-, and 20 mm-thick bone cement samples mainly involved the epidermis, the papillary dermis, the reticular dermis layer, and the full thickness of the skin and the subcutaneous tissue. The maximum temperature of 1 mm, 4 mm, 8 mm, and 12 mm bone cementation had a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001), while there was no significant difference between 12 mm, 16 mm, and 20 mm samples (p = 0.856). The time to severe scalding with bone cement at temperatures above 70°C was significantly different between different thicknesses (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The heat released by different thicknesses of bone cement leads to different maximum temperatures and the duration of severe burns, resulting in different degrees of skin burns. Attention should be paid to discarded bone cement to prevent this potential complication in knee arthroplasty.
