RESUMO

Small-scale and flexible acoustic probes are more desirable for exquisite objects like human bodies and complex-shaped components than conventional rigid ones. Herein, a thin-film flexible acoustic sensor (FA-TES) that can detect ultra-broadband acoustic signals in multiple applications is proposed. The device consists of two thin copper-coated polyvinyl chloride films, which are stimulated by acoustic waves and contact each other to generate the triboelectric signal. Interlocking nanocolumn arrays fabricated on the friction surfaces are regarded as a highly adaptive spacer enabling this device to respond to ultra-broadband acoustic signals (100 Hz-4 MHz) and enhance sensor sensitivity for film weak vibration. Benefiting from the characteristics of high shape adaptability and ultrawide response range, the FA-TES can precisely sense human physiological sounds and voice (≤10 kHz) for laryngeal health monitoring and interaction in real-time. Moreover, the FA-TES flexibly arranged on a 3D-printed vertebra model can effectively and accurately diagnose the inner defect by ultrasonic testing (≥1 MHz). It envisions that this work can provide new ideas for flexible acoustic sensor designs and optimize real-time acoustic detections of human bodies and complex components.

RESUMO

Recent advances in flexible pressure sensors have fueled increasing attention as promising technologies with which to realize human epidermal pulse wave monitoring for the early diagnosis and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. However, strict requirements of a single sensor on the arterial position make it difficult to meet the practical application scenarios. Herein, based on three single-electrode sensors with small area, a 3 × 1 flexible pressure sensor array was developed to enable measurement of epidermal pulse waves at different local positions of radial artery. The designed single sensor holds an area of 6 × 6 mm2, which mainly consists of frosted microstructured Ecoflex film and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) nanofibers. The Ecoflex film was formed by spinning Ecoflex solution onto a sandpaper surface. Micropatterned TPU nanofibers were prepared on a fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) film surface using the electrospinning method. The combination of frosted microstructure and nanofibers provides an increase in the contact separation of the tribopair, which is of great benefit for improving sensor performance. Due to this structure design, the single small-area sensor was characterized by pressure sensitivity of 0.14 V/kPa, a response time of 22 ms, a wide frequency band ranging from 1 to 23 Hz, and stability up to 7000 cycles. Given this output performance, the fabricated sensor can detect subtle physiological signals (e.g., respiration, ballistocardiogram, and heartbeat) and body movement. More importantly, the sensor can be utilized in capturing human epidermal pulse waves with rich details, and the consistency of each cycle in the same measurement is as high as 0.9987. The 3 × 1 flexible sensor array is employed to acquire pulse waves at different local positions of the radial artery. In addition, the time domain parameters including pulse wave transmission time (PTT) and pulse wave velocity (PWV) can be obtained successfully, which holds promising potential in pulse-based cardiovascular system status monitoring.

RESUMO

Canine enteric coronavirus (CCoV) is a pathogenic virus that infects dogs worldwide, causing enteric issues and causing harm to the dog industry and dogs. Although CCoV is not recognized as a highly lethal canine intestinal pathogen, it has been reported that CCoV is significantly associated with canine diarrhea in dogs. CCoV is a common health problem in dogs, attracting major concern from veterinarians and dog owners across China. In this study, we summarized the prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of CCoV in dogs in mainland China. The study revealed that the pooled prevalence of CCoV infection was 33%, and which associated with age, but not with sex, season and immunization status. In addition, the study also further suggested that CCoV-II was the predominant CCoV subtype in Chinese dogs. This study will provide valuable information for CCoV infections across China and other countries. Furthermore, this study also suggested that continuous surveillance and epidemiological studies of CCoV are necessary.

RESUMO

Cadmium could induce cell apoptosis, probably related to the dysfunction of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. The human renal proximal tubule (HK-2) was used to explore the mechanism of mitochondrial respiratory chain dysfunction during apoptosis induced by cadmium chloride (CdCl2). Cell viability was evaluated by cell proliferation assay and different concentrations of 60, 80 and 100 µM were selected to evaluate the mitochondrial toxicity of CdCl2 respectively. Under the CdCl2 treatment for 24 h, the mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) of HK-2 cells increased and the superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was inhibited at the above three concentrations separately. Both ATP content and mitochondrial membrane potential decreased significantly at 100 µM concentration. The levels of procaspase-3 and Bcl-2 had fallen in a concentration-dependent manner and Bax was significantly increased at 60, 80 and 100 µM concentration compared with no CdCl2 treatment respectively, which activated the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) could partially resist CdCl2-induced cell apoptosis, while myxothiazol (Myx) promoted the process. Mitochondria relative alterations manifested as inhibition of complex III and V. In addition, both the quantity of mitochondrial coenzyme Q-binding protein CoQ10 homolog B (CoQ10B) and cytochrome c (Cyt c) had decreased significantly. Taken together, CdCl2 induced HK-2 apoptosis due to the mitochondrial respiratory chain dysfunction by reducing the CoQ10B level, offering a novel evaluating indicator for the environmental toxicity of CdCl2.

RESUMO

Feline coronavirus (FCoV) is a pathogenic virus commonly found in cats that causes a benign enteric illness and fatal systemic disease, feline infectious peritonitis. The development of serological diagnostic tools for FCoV is helpful for clinical diagnosis and epidemiological investigation. Therefore, this study aimed to develop an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (iELISA) to detect antibodies against FCoV using histidine-tagged recombinant spike protein. FCoV S protein (1127-1400 aa) was expressed and used as an antigen to establish an ELISA. Mice and rabbits immunized with the protein produced antibodies that were recognized and bound to the protein. The intra-assay coefficient of variation (CV) was 1.15-5.04% and the inter-assay CV was 4.28-15.13%, suggesting an acceptable repeatability. iELISA did not cross-react with antisera against other feline viruses. The receiver operating characteristic curve analysis revealed an 86.7% sensitivity and 93.3% specificity for iELISA. Serum samples (n = 107) were tested for anti-FCoV antibodies, and 70.09% of samples were positive for antibodies against FCoV. The iELISA developed in our study can be used to measure serum FCoV antibodies due to its acceptable repeatability, sensitivity, and specificity. Additionally, field sample analysis data demonstrated that FCoV is highly prevalent in cat populations in Fujian province, China.

RESUMO

Precisely detecting epidermal pulse waves with pressure sensors is crucial for pulse-based personalized health-monitoring technologies. However, developing a pressure sensor that simultaneously demonstrates high sensitivity and an ultrabroad pressure range and a convenient fabrication process for large-scale production is a considerable challenge. Herein, by utilizing a commercial conductive fabric (CF) and a silica gel film, we develop a high-performance pressure sensor (HPPS) for the monitoring of human physiological signals. Based on convenient turnover formwork technology, the silica gel film was fabricated by replicating the microstructure of the sandpaper surface. This microstructure and the plain weave structure on the CF surface together provide a sharp increase in the contact-separation area and structural compressibility, which are beneficial for the enhancement of output performance. Made of these two materials, the graded microstructured HPPS holds high sensitivity (4.5 mV/Pa), an ultrabroad pressure range (0-30 kPa), a wide working frequency bandwidth (up to 35 Hz), decent stability (>50,000 cycles), and a simple fabrication process that is suitable for large-scale production. Given these noticeable features, the developed HPPS not only succeeds in precisely detecting subtle pulse waves on various positions of different people but can also objectively capture changes in cardiovascular parameters caused by exercise training at different intensities in real time. These findings exhibit the enormous potential application of HPPS in tracking an individual's health status and comprehensively evaluating exercise intensity.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The canine morbillivirus, previously known as canine distemper virus (CDV), is a pathogen which infects dogs worldwide and causes fatal disease. CDV has a broad range of hosts and can infect at least six orders and more than 20 mammalian families. Domestic dogs are the main hosts of CDV and play a central role in the transmission of the virus. However, the prevalence of CDV infection in China remains unknown since there are only a few studies which systematically analysed the prevalence of CDV in domestic dogs in the country. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the frequency of CDV positivity and associated risk factors of CDV in Chinese domestic dogs. METHODS: We systematically searched for studies on the frequency of CDV in Chinese domestic dogs published in English and Chinese to conduct a meta-analysis using the random-effects model with a forest plot with a 95% confidence interval. RESULTS: The overall estimated frequency of CDV positivity in Chinese domestic dogs was 22%. In addition, our data show that sampling season, age, breed, and immunisation status are associated with CDV infection frequency. CONCLUSION: In a word, CDV is circulating in domestic dogs in China. Continued intervention strategies based on risk factors are necessary to reduce the frequency of CDV infection, especially in endemic regions.

RESUMO

The critical health risks caused by cadmium (Cd) via dietary exposure are commonly assessed by detecting Cd concentrations in foods. Differently, in this study, the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of Cd in major local harvests were introduced to assess the dietary exposure of local residents from a high-level environmental Cd region. The results indicated that certain Cd was released into the digestive juice after in vitro digestion with a bioaccessibility of 20-63% for rice and 3-32% for leafy vegetables, and the released portion was partially absorbed by Caco-2 cells with a bioavailability of 2-21% for rice and 0.2-13% for leafy vegetables. The results obtained from the toxicokinetic model revealed that the predicted urinary Cd values from the estimated daily intake (EDI) of Cd, which accounted for bioaccessibility and bioavailability, were consistent with the actual measured values, and the EDIs were considerably lower than the acceptable daily intake. This suggests that the bioaccessibility and bioavailability adjusted dietary Cd exposure should be more precise. The key issues addressed in our study implores that a potential health risk cannot be neglected in people with high consumption of rice from high-level zone.

RESUMO

The mitoepigenetic modifications may be closely related to cellular fate. Both the replicative and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced premature senescence models were used to detect the mitochondrial biological characteristics and the epigenetic factors during senescence of human embryonic lung fibroblasts. The mitochondrial quantity was decreased in two senescence stages, while the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number was increased significantly and the methyltransferases activity likewise. And the acute mtROS accumulation could launch premature senescence. Later, the persistent premature senescence owned the higher level of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and mitochondrial 5-methylcytosine (mt-5-mC), and the less level of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) than those of replicative senescence. The mtDNA methylation-related enzymes, binding protein and the mitochondrial transcription regulators presented the differentially expressed profiles in both senescent states. Interestingly, the hypermethylation in the CpG region of mitochondrial transcription factor B2 (TFB2M) contributed to its downregulation of mRNA level in replicative senescence. The alterations of the mitochondrial biological functions and mtDNA features would be novel candidate biomarkers involved in cellular senescence. The specific methylation status of mtDNA may also have a crosstalk with oxidative stress to the mitochondrial function, contributing to cellular senescence.

RESUMO

Trichloroethylene (TCE), an important volatile organic solvent, causes a series of toxic damage to human. Conventional genetic mechanisms cannot fully explain its toxicity and carcinogenicity, indicative of the possible involvement of epigenetic mechanisms. Our study was intended to investigate the epigenetic toxicity and underlying mechanisms of TCE. Data showed that 0.3 mM TCE treatment for 24 h increased the growth of L-02 cells transiently. In contrast, subacute exposure to TCE inhibited cell growth and induced the genomic DNA hypomethylation and histone hyperacetylation. Further studies have revealed the TCE-induced DNA hypomethylation in the promoter regions of tumor-related genes, N-Ras, c-Jun, c-Myc, c-Fos and IGF-II, promoting their protein levels in a time-dependent manner. These results reveal there is a negative relationship existing between DNA hypomethylation and protein expression in tumor-related gene after TCE exposure under specific epigenetic microenvironment, serving as early biomarkers for TCE-associated diseases.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Canine parvovirus 2 (CPV-2) is a pathogenic virus that infects dogs, causing a highly infectious disease. Monitoring CPV-2 spread is an important part of prevention; however, the prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of CPV-2 have not been systematically evaluated and analyzed in mainland China. Therefore, a systematic review and meta-analysis were performed to assess prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of CPV-2 in domestic dogs in mainland China. METHODS: In this study, Chinese and English literature on CPV-2 epidemiology published between January 2006 and December 2019 was evaluated. Regarding meta-analysis, the random-effect model was employed by forest plot with 95% of confidence interval. The number of CPV-2 infections was identified and the pooled prevalence of infection, as well as the epidemiological characteristics, was calculated using meta-analysis. RESULTS: A total of 39 studies (data from 137,844 dogs) met the evaluation criteria and were used in our study. The pooled prevalence of CPV-2 infection in mainland China was 36%. CPV-2 infection were associated with age, breed, sampling season and immunization status, but not with gender, publication time and diagnostic methods. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicated that CPV-2 is prevalent among dogs in China. It is therefore necessary to carry out continuous surveillance and epidemiological studies of CPV-2. In addition, accordingly, effective measures should be taken to prevent the transmission and spread of CPV-2 among the Chinese dog population.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To survey the residents for their understanding of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related knowledge, attitude and practices (KAP) in two hard hit provinces of China to facilitate the governmental decisions on strategies against the disease. METHODS: We invited the participants from Hubei and Henan Provinces of China for an internetbased survey starting from 12:00 on February 21, 2020 to 12:00 on February 23. The survey included the general conditions, KAP of COVID-19, psychological status and living conditions of the residents. RESULTS: The effective response rate of the questionnaire was 98.9%. The mean (P25, P75) age of the participants was 19 (16, 40) years, and 54.3% of them were students. Social media were the most important source of information concerning the pandemic of the respondents. The respondents had a high awareness of person-to-person transmission of the virus through the respiratory tract or droplets but showed a relatively low level of awareness of the population susceptible to COVID-19 and its specific symptoms. The results of multivariate analysis showed that women, undergraduate students (including college students) and higher degree holders had better knowledge of COVID-19 (P < 0.05); the proportion of respondents who expressed to have different levels of psychological stressed such as worry, anxiety and panic reached 77.2%; 16.7% of the responders considered psychological interventions necessary for their psychological conditions; 63.6% of the respondents confessed a bias against the people returning from Hubei and Henan provinces, while 22.4% worried that they might be biased because of their residence in Hubei and Henan. The rate of personal protective equipment shortage was as high as 69.4%; the rates of the responders who would "covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing", "properly use masks in accordance with regulations", "maintain proper hand hygiene ", "avoid gatherings with relatives and friends" and "refrain from going to public places" were 92.4%, 95.9%, 93.5%, 88.8% and 93.1%, respectively. Women and groups with good knowledge of the disease reported better protective behaviors against the diseases (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The residents in Hubei and Henan Provinces have generally good KAP related to COVID-19, and the online platforms plays a positive role to in circulating epidemic-related information. It is essential to further increase the supply of the protective materials and pay more attention to the mental health of the residents during the pandemic, and psychological counseling and psychological protection should be provided if necessary.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study was aimed to investigate the epidemiological characteristic of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) in Haidian District, Beijing from 2005 to 2018 and to provide suggestions for controlling tuberculosis (TB) development. METHODS: Epidemiological data about TB were obtained by the Infectious Disease Reporting System at different levels of medical institutions in Haidian District of Beijing from 2005 to 2018. The epidemiological methods combined with χ2 test were used to analyze the distribution of TB in population, time, region and TB diagnosis. RESULTS: In total, 14,449 cases of TB patients were reported in Haidian District from 2005 to 2018 and the average annual morbidity was 31.67/10,000. Of the total cases, housework and unemployed people (20.73%; 2996/14,449) accounted for the highest proportion of occupational distribution, followed by students, accounting for 17.18% (2482/14,449). 2433 patients with the age of 65 years and over accounting for 16.83% (2433/14,449); Laboratory confirmed diagnosis of TB was 26.60% and the diagnostic delays accounted for 54.96%. CONCLUSIONS: From 2005 to 2018, TB incidence was falling gradually in Haidian District. However, particular attention should be paid to the elderly and student groups, and the policy publicity and education should be strengthened to reduce the diagnosis delay of TB.

RESUMO

Cadmium, which is extensively distributed in the environment, accumulates in organisms through the trophic chain. Although cadmium can cause bone injury, its role in osteogenesis of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) remains unclear. The present study investigated the effect of cadmium chloride (CdCl2) on osteogenesis of hBMSCs and the underlying mechanism. CdCl2 dose-dependently reduced the viability of hBMSCs. Concentrations of CdCl2 (2.5 and 5.0 µM) increased miR-143-3p levels; decreased levels of adenosine diphosphate-ribosylation factor-like protein 6 (ARL6); inhibited Wnt family member 3A (Wnt3a), ß-catenin, lymphoid enhancer factor (LEF1), and T-cell factor 1 (TCF1); and suppressed osteogenesis of hBMSCs. Inhibition of miR-143-3p or overexpression of ARL6 with lentivirus blocked these CdCl2-induced changes. Luciferase reporter assays confirmed that miR-143-3p binds to the 3'-UTR regions of ARL6 mRNA. Reduced-expression of miR-143-3p enhanced the CdCl2-induced suppression of the osteogenesis of hBMSCs and inhibition of the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway, effects that were reversed by down-regulated expression of ARL6. Thus, miR-143-3p targets ARL6 to down-regulate the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway, which is involved in the suppression of osteogenic differentiation of hBMSCs. The results provide new directions for clinical treatment of bone diseases resulting from cadmium toxicity.

RESUMO

Wearable textile electronics are highly desirable for realizing personalized health management. However, most reported textile electronics can either periodically target a single physiological signal or miss the explicit details of the signals, leading to a partial health assessment. Furthermore, textiles with excellent property and comfort still remain a challenge. Here, we report a triboelectric all-textile sensor array with high pressure sensitivity and comfort. It exhibits the pressure sensitivity (7.84 mV Pa-1), fast response time (20 ms), stability (>100,000 cycles), wide working frequency bandwidth (up to 20 Hz), and machine washability (>40 washes). The fabricated TATSAs were stitched into different parts of clothes to monitor the arterial pulse waves and respiratory signals simultaneously. We further developed a health monitoring system for long-term and noninvasive assessment of cardiovascular disease and sleep apnea syndrome, which exhibits great advancement for quantitative analysis of some chronic diseases.

RESUMO

The fingertip-pulse waveform carries abundant information regarding human physiological condition that is fundamental for directly extracting physiological parameters. Making the surfaces of ordinary objects that are often in contact with fingertips, such as tables and computers, capable of perceiving dynamic epidermal pulse signals has great significance for accurately assessing health conditions without restrictions on time and place. Here, we demonstrate the materials and design of a nanohemispherical pressure sensor that can be attached to ubiquitous objects' surfaces to monitor fingertip pulse. The portable sensor achieved an ultrasensitivity of 49.8 mV/Pa, a prominent response time of less than 6 ms, and long-term durability of more than 4 months. As demonstrated, the sensor is utilized to measure subtle fingertip-pulse waves and extract characteristic points of the waveform on the surface of keyboards, mobile phones, and human skin. Given the superior performance of the sensor, a real-time, wireless arteriosclerosis monitoring system is developed. By analyzing the characteristic parameters of the pulse waveforms measured from 54 volunteer participants, the antidiastole of arteriosclerosis could be instructively diagnosed. The sensor proposed in this work is expected to be a competitive alternative to current complicated medical equipment and to be extensively applied in wireless cardiovascular monitoring systems.

RESUMO

Integrating solar thermal energy into the conventional Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) has been proved to be an efficient way to use solar energy and improve the generation efficiency of CCPP. In this paper, the energy, exergy, and economic (3E) methods were applied to the models of the Integrated Solar Combined Cycle System (ISCCS). The performances of the proposed system were not only assessed by energy and exergy efficiency, as well as exergy destruction, but also through varied thermodynamic parameters such as DNI and Ta. Besides, to better understand the real potentials for improving the components, exergy destruction was split into endogenous/exogenous and avoidable/unavoidable parts. Results indicate that the combustion chamber of the gas turbine has the largest endogenous and unavoidable exergy destruction values of 202.23 MW and 197.63 MW, and the values of the parabolic trough solar collector are 51.77 MW and 50.01 MW. For the overall power plant, the exogenous and avoidable exergy destruction rates resulted in 17.61% and 17.78%, respectively. In addition, the proposed system can save a fuel cost of 1.86 $/MW·h per year accompanied by reducing CO2 emissions of about 88.40 kg/MW·h, further highlighting the great potential of ISCCS.
