RESUMO

Recognition and judgment of X-ray computed tomography (CT) images play a crucial role in medical diagnosis and disease prevention. However, the storage and calculation of the X-ray imaging system applied in the traditional CT diagnosis is separate, and the pathological judgment is based on doctors' experience, which will affect the timeliness and accuracy of decision-making. In this paper, a simple-structured reservoir computing network (RC) is proposed based on Ga2O3 X-ray optical synaptic devices to recognize medical skeletal CT images with high accuracy. Through oxygen vacancy engineering, Ga2O3 X-ray optical synaptic devices with adjustable photocurrent gain and a persistent photoconductivity effect were obtained. By using the Ga2O3 X-ray optical synaptic device as a reservoir, we constructed an RC network for medical skeletal CT diagnosis and verified its image recognition capability using the MNIST data set with an accuracy of 78.08%. In the elbow skeletal CT image recognition task, the recognition rate is as high as 100%. This work constructs a simple-structured RC network for X-ray image recognition, which is of great significance in applications in medical fields.

RESUMO

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was introduced into the study of palate growth and development to explain the mechanisms by which mouth breathing affects palate descent from an aerodynamic perspective. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) data were used to reconstruct a 3-dimensional model during natural mouth breathing of a volunteer. The model was imported into CFX 19.0 for numerical simulation of nasal breathing, mouth-nasal breathing, and mouth breathing. The pressure in the oronasal cavity was analyzed, and the pressure difference between the oral and nasal surfaces of hard palate under different breathing patterns was calculated. CFD can be used to simulate the stress on the oral and nasal surfaces of the palate under different breathing patterns. The pressure differences and resultant force between the oral and nasal surfaces of the hard palate during nasal inspiration, nasal expiration, mouth-nasal inspiration, mouth-nasal expiration, mouth inspiration, and mouth expiration were 0 Pa, 4 Pa (upward), 9 Pa (upward), 3 Pa (downward), 474 Pa (upward), 263 Pa (downward), respectively, and 87.99 N (upward), 88.03 N (upward), 88.01 N (upward), 88.01 N (upward), 88.05 N (upward), 87.94 N (upward), respectively. Therefore, CFD can be used to investigate the growth and development of the palate. When the volunteer opened his mouth, the pressure difference between the oral and nasal surfaces of the hard palate was about 88 N upward regardless of whether there was airflow in the mouth. The reversal of the direction of the force on the hard palate may be one of the factors affecting its descent of it.

RESUMO

Detection and recognition of latent fingerprints play crucial roles in identification and security. However, the separation of sensor, memory, and processor in conventional ex-situ fingerprint recognition system seriously deteriorates the latency of decision-making and inevitably increases the overall computing power. In this work, a photoelectronic reservoir computing (RC) system, consisting of DUV photo-synapses and nonvolatile memristor array, is developed to detect and recognize the latent fingerprint with in-sensor and parallel in-memory computing. Through the Ga-rich design, we achieve amorphous GaOx (a-GaOx) photo-synapses with an enhanced persistent photoconductivity (PPC) effect. The PPC effect, which induces nonlinearly tunable conductivity, renders the a-GaOx photo-synapses an ideal deep ultraviolet (DUV) photoelectronic reservoir, thus mapping the complex input vector into a dimensionality-reduced output vector. Connecting the reservoirs and a memristor array, we further construct an in-sensor RC system for latent fingerprint identification. The system maintains over 90% recognition accuracy for latent fingerprint within 15% stochastic noise level via the proposed dual-feature strategy. This work provides a subversive prototype system of DUV in-sensor RC for highly efficient recognition of latent fingerprints.

RESUMO

Gallium oxide (Ga2 O3 ), with an ultrawide bandgap, is currently regarded as one of the most promising materials for solar-blind photodetectors (SBPDs), which are greatly demanded in harsh environment, such as space exploration and flame prewarning. However, realization of high-performance SBPDs with high tolerance toward harsh environments based on low-cost Ga2 O3 material faces great challenges. Here, defect and doping (DD) engineering towards amorphous GaOX (a-GaOX ) has been proposed to obtain ultrasensitive SBPDs for harsh condition application. Serious oxygen deficiency and doping compensation of the engineered a-GaOX film ensure the high response currents and low dark currents, respectively. Annealing item in nitrogen of DD engineering also incurs the recrystallization of material, formation of nanopores by oxygen escape, and suppression of sub-bandgap defect states. As a result, the tailored GaOX SBPD based on DD engineering not only harvests a record-high responsivity rejection ratio (R254 nm /R365 nm ) of 1.8 × 107 , 102 times higher detectivity, and 2 × 102 times faster decay speed than the control device, but also keeps a high responsivity, high photo-to-dark current ratio, and sharp imaging capability even at high temperature (280 °C) or high bias (100 V). The proposed DD engineering provides an effective strategy towards highly harsh-environment-resistant GaOX SBPDs.

RESUMO

The growing demand for scalable solar-blind image sensors with remarkable photosensitive properties has stimulated the research on more advanced solar-blind photodetector (SBPD) arrays. In this work, the authors demonstrate ultrahigh-performance metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) SBPDs based on amorphous (a-) Ga2 O3 via a post-annealing process. The post-annealed MSM a-Ga2 O3 SBPDs exhibit superhigh sensitivity of 733 A/W and high response speed of 18 ms, giving a high gain-bandwidth product over 104 at 5 V. The SBPDs also show ultrahigh photo-to-dark current ratio of 3.9 × 107 . Additionally, the PDs demonstrate super-high specific detectivity of 3.9 × 1016 Jones owing to the extremely low noise down to 3.5 fW Hz-1/2 , suggesting high signal-to-noise ratio. Underlying mechanism for such superior photoelectric properties is revealed by Kelvin probe force microscopy and first principles calculation. Furthermore, for the first time, a large-scale, high-uniformity 32 × 32 image sensor array based on the post-annealed a-Ga2 O3 SBPDs is fabricated. Clear image of target object with high contrast can be obtained thanks to the high sensitivity and uniformity of the array. These results demonstrate the feasibility and practicality of the Ga2 O3 PDs for applications in solar-blind imaging, environmental monitoring, artificial intelligence and machine vision.

RESUMO

Dry eye (DE) is a highly prevalent ocular surface disease which affects the quality of life and results in low working efficiency. Frequent instillation is required due to low bioavailability of conventional eye drops. The aim of this study is to develop a novel formulation of tacrolimus (TAC), routinely prescribed for DE, by combination of the microcrystal technology and layer-by-layer assembly. First, nonspherical tacrolimus microcrystals (TAC MCs) are synthesized by antisolvent-induced precipitation. These TAC MCs are modified by alternate deposition of poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) subsequently to obtain CMC-coated TAC MCs (TAC-(PAH/CMC)3 ). The resultant formulations are evaluated in vivo in a mouse DE model induced by an intelligently controlled environmental system. Compared with commercially available TAC eye drops and the TAC MCs counterpart, TAC-(PAH/CMC)3 exhibits superior therapeutic performance with reduced drug instillation frequency, which is attributed to the nonspherical geometry of MCs, the lubricant, mucoadhesive effect of CMC, and the anti-inflammatory function of TAC. Therefore, TAC-(PAH/CMC)3 represents a better option for the management of DE.

RESUMO

Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) production and usage might lead to a large discharge of ZnO NPs into the natural environment, raising concerns of pollution and ecological security. The effects of ZnO NPs on waste activated sludge hydrolytic acidification and microbial communities were studied in semi-continuous fermentation systems. The fermentation performance of eight ZnO NPs concentrations including ZnO NPs normal [0.01, 0.1, 1 and 10 mg/g mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS)] and ZnO NPs shock (10, 1000, 1000 and 10,000 mg/g MLSS) were discussed, and their biodegradability was also analyzed. The experimental results showed that proteins, polysaccharides and short-chain fatty acids were enhanced by ZnO NPs, particularly by ZnO NPs shock. Low ZnO NPs concentrations inhibited coenzyme 420 (F420) and dehydrogenase activities but enhanced α-glucosidase and protease activities. Illumina MiSeq sequencing revealed that ZnO NPs addition enriched Azospira, Ottowia and Hyphomicrobium but not Anaerolineaceae.

RESUMO

Salinity (NaCl) was used in waste activated sludge (WAS) anaerobic fermentation system which had been presented to greatly enhance the extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) production including protein and polysaccharide and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Salinity enhanced soluble protein and polysaccharide (SB-EPS) release which was 4.04 times (protein) and 1.83 times (polysaccharide) compared to 0 g/L NaCl level. More important, salinity restrained the coenzyme 420 activity (F420), but increased the hydrolase activity. Abundant hydrolysis of substrate and highly active hydrolase led to abundant SCFA production. Pearson correlation coefficient showed that the protein became the main reaction substrate for SCFA generation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to explore the influence factors of hospitalization costs of treating colorectal cancer in China. And the study provides new estimates on hospitalization costs and length of hospital stay for patients with colorectal cancer in China. METHODS: Data for inpatient hospitalization associated with colorectal cancer were obtained from a 3-tier hospital in Guangdong Province and were analyzed post hoc. We conducted descriptive statistical methods, Wilcoxon rank-sum tests (for 2 groups) and the Kruskal-Wallis test (for more than 2 groups) to analyze the hospitalization costs of treating colorectal cancer. RESULTS: The analysis included 8021 patients (female: 40.54%; mean age; 61.80 ±â€Š13.28 years; male: 59.46%; mean age: 61.80 ±â€Š13.28 years). The overall mean length of hospital stay was 11.35 days. Over the 5 years, the mean length of hospital stay showed a small decrease from 12.22 days in 2012 to 10.69 days in 2016, while per-day costs showed a trend of increase between 2012 and 2015 (increase from < 1190.94 to < 1382.50). The mean length of hospital stay was statistically significant difference was found for sexes (P = .039) and insurance status (P < .001). The mean hospitalization costs were < 16,279.58. Mean hospitalization costs were different among the UEBMI, the URBMI and the Unspecified (< 17,114.58, < 15,555.05, and < 17,735.30, respectively; P < .001). CONCLUSION: The study showed that hospitalization costs increase were associated with a small decreasing length of hospital stay and increasing per-day hospitalization costs. Moreover, the proportion of the hospitalization costs reimbursed by insurances increased. For inpatients with UEBMI, it possibly lead to over treatment and the medical expense rise which result in medical resources waste and significant society costs. The rising hospitalization costs may lead to a remarkably increased financial burden in the future in China.

RESUMO

It has been reported that the impaired cytotoxicity of natural killer (NK) cells and abnormal cytokines that are changed by the interaction between ectopic endometrial cells and immune cells is indispensable for the initiation and development of endometriosis (EMS). However, the mechanism of NK cells dysfunction in EMS remains largely unclear. Here, we found that NK cells in peritoneal fluid from women with EMS highly expressed indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO). Furthermore, IDO+NK cells possessed lower NKp46 and NKG2D but higher IL-10 than that of IDO-NK. Co-culture with endometrial stromal cells (nESCs) from healthy control or ectopic ESCs (eESCs) from women with EMS led to a significant increase in the IDO level in NK cells from peripheral blood, particularly eESCs, and an anti-TGF-ß neutralizing antibody suppressed these effects in vitro. NK cells co-cultured with ESC more preferentially inhibited the viability of nESCs than eESCs did, and pretreating with 1-methyl-tryptophan (1-MT), an IDO inhibitor, reversed the inhibitory effect of NK cells on eESC viability. These data suggest that ESCs induce IDO+NK cells differentiation partly by TGF-ß, and that IDO further restricts the cytotoxicity of NK cells in response to eESCs, which provides a potential therapeutic strategy for EMS patients, particularly those with a high number of impaired cytotoxic IDO+NK cells.

RESUMO

Waste activated sludge with low organic content (WAS-LOC) always led to the failure of anaerobic fermentation. A potentially practical technology based on SO4-, i.e. Potassium Monopersulfate (PMS) was used into WAS-LOC anaerobic fermentation system and had been presented to greatly improve both the intracellular and extracellular constituents, which improved the biological enzyme activity and produced a mass of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Results showed that the maximal SCFAs production was 716.72 mg chemical oxygen demand (COD)/L (0.08 mg PMS/mg SS), which increased to 43.70 times comparing to that of 0.00 mg PMS/mg SS level (16.40 mgCOD/L). The activities of biological enzymes increased 1.42 times for protease, 4.38 times for α-glucosidase, 2.1 times for alkaline phosphatase, 1.70 times for acidic phosphatase and 1.37 times for dehydrogenase respectively comparing to natural fermentation system, but the coenzyme 420 was restrained prominently. PMS positively enriched the abundance of microbial community responsible for WAS-LOC hydrolysis and SCFAs production.

RESUMO

Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain 1 (NOD1) is the most prominent of all NOD-like receptors, which in the mammalian innate immune system, serve as intracellular receptors for pathogens and endogenous molecules during tissue injury. From rabbit kidney cells, we cloned rabbit NOD1 (rNOD1) and identified an N-terminal caspase activation and recruitment domain, a central NACHT domain, and C-terminal leucine-rich repeat domains. rNOD1 was expressed in all tested tissues; infection with Escherichia coli induced significantly higher expression in the spleen, liver, and kidney compared to other tissues. The overexpression of rNOD1 induced the expression of proinflammatory cytokines Il1b, Il6, Il8, Ifn-γ, and Tnf and defensins, including Defb124, Defb125, Defb128, Defb135, and Np5 via activation of the nuclear factor (NF)-κB pathway. Overexpression of rNOD1 inhibited the growth of E. coli, whereas knockdown of rNOD1 or inhibition of the NF-κB pathway promoted the growth of E. coli. rNOD1 colocalized with LC3, upregulated autophagy pathway protein LC3-II, and increased autolysosome formation in RK-13 cells infected with E. coli. In summary, our results explain the primary signaling pathway and antibacterial ability of rNOD1, as well as the induction of autophagy that it mediates. Such findings suggest that NOD1 could contribute to therapeutic strategies such as targets of new vaccine adjuvants or drugs.

RESUMO

Endometriosis (EMS) is associated with an abnormal immune response to endometrial cells, which can facilitate the implantation and proliferation of ectopic endometrial tissues. It has been reported that human endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) express interleukin (IL)15. The aim of our study was to elucidate whether or not IL15 regulates the cross talk between ESCs and natural killer (NK) cells in the endometriotic milieu and, if so, how this regulation occurs. The ESC behaviors in vitro were verified by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), Annexin/PI, and Matrigel invasion assays, respectively. To imitate the local immune microenvironment, the co-culture system between ESCs and NK cells was constructed. The effect of IL15 on NK cells in the co-culture unit was investigated by flow cytometry (FCM). In this study, we found that ectopic endometrium from patients with EMS highly expressed IL15. Rapamycin, an autophagy inducer, decreased the level of IL15 receptors (i.e. IL15Rα and IL2Rß). IL15 inhibits apoptosis and promotes the invasiveness, viability, and proliferation of ESCs. Meanwhile, a co-culture with ESCs led to a decrease in CD16 on NK cells. In the co-culture system, IL15 treatment downregulated the levels of Granzyme B and IFN-γ in CD16(+)NK cells, NKG2D in CD56(dim)CD16(-)NK cells, and NKP44 in CD56(bright)CD16(-)NK cells. On the one hand, these results indicated that IL15 derived from ESCs directly stimulates the growth and invasion of ESCs. On the other hand, IL15 may help the immune escape of ESCs by suppressing the cytotoxic activity of NK cells in the ectopic milieu, thereby facilitating the progression of EMS.

RESUMO

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness and safety of lower doses of mifepristone combined with misoprostol for the termination of ultra-early pregnancy. A total of 2500 women with ultra-early pregnancy (amenorrhea ≤ 35 days) were randomly divided into 5 groups with gradually decreased dose of oral mifepristone from 150 to 50 mg followed by 200 µg of oral misoprostol 24 hours later. The primary end point was complete abortion without surgical intervention. Secondary end points were vaginal bleeding, return of menses, and side effects. Rates of complete abortion were high in all groups. Moreover, the lower doses of mifepristone led to shorter vaginal bleeding period, the return of menses on the expected date, and fewer side effects. Lower doses of mifepristone combined with 200 µg of misoprostol are as effective and safe as higher doses of this combination for the termination of ultra-early pregnancy with lower possibility of vaginal bleeding and side effects.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the protective effects of danshen (Salvia Miltiorrhiza) on vascular endothelial cells in hypertension patients in the gestation period. METHODS: The umbilical vein endothelial cells pre-incubated with Danshen solution at different concentrations (0, 100, 200, and 300 mg/L) were randomly divided into 3 groups, i.e., the blank control group (8 cases), the normal control group (14 cases, cultured in the serum from 14 normal pregnant women), and the observation group (14 cases, cultured in the serum from 14 pregnant women with severe pre-eclampsia). The levels of nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) in each culture supernatant were detected respectively. RESULTS: The ET-1 level was higher in 300 mg/L Danshen solution group than in 0 mg/L and 100 mg/L Danshen solution groups (P <0.05). The NO level was lower in the observation group than in the blank control group and the normal control group (P <0. 05). The NO level was higher in 200 mg/L Danshen solution group than in 0 mg/L Danshen solution group (P <0.05). The NO level was higher in 300 mg/L Danshen solution group than in 0 mg/L, 100 mg/L, and 200 mg/L Danshen solution groups (P <0.05). CONCLUSION: Danshen could increase the secretion of NO from in vitro umbilical vein endothelial cells cultured in the serum from patients with pre-eclampsia, and reduce the secretion of ET-1.

RESUMO

Interleukin (IL)-29 is a relatively newly discovered cytokine, which has been shown to be actively involved in the pathogenesis of allergic inflammation. However, little is known of the effects of IL-29 on protease activated receptor (PAR) expression and potential mechanisms of cytokine production in mast cells. In the present study, we examined potential influence of IL-29 on PAR expression and cytokine production in P815 and bone marrow derived mast cells (BMMCs) by using flow cytometry analysis, quantitative real time PCR, and ELISA techniques. The results showed that IL-29 downregulated the expression of PAR-1 by up to 56.2%, but had little influence on the expression of PAR-2, PAR-3 and PAR-4. IL-29 also induced downregulation of expression of PAR-1 mRNA. However, when mast cells were pre-incubated with IL-29, thrombin-, trypsin- and tryptase-induced expression of PAR-2, PAR-3 and PAR-4 was upregulated, respectively. IL-29 provoked approximately up to 1.9-fold increase in IL-4 release when mast cells was challenged with IL-29. Administration of IL-29 blocking antibody, AG490 or LY294002 abolished IL-29-induced IL-4 release from P815 cells. It was found that IL-29 diminished trypsin- and tryptase-induced IL-4 release from P815 cells following 16 h incubation. In conclusion, IL-29 can regulate expression of PARs and tryptase- and trypsin-induced IL-4 production in mast cells, through which participates in the mast cell related inflammation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of finger-assisted laparoscopic myomectomy for multiple myomas. STUDY DESIGN: A total of 565 patients with symptomatic myomas underwent finger-assisted laparoscopic myomectomy between January 2006 and March 2011 to remove multiple myomas at our center. Laparoscopic myomectomy technique was modified, and involved the insertion of two fingers into the vagina to elevate the uterus, while one or two fingers of the other hand were inserted into the abdomen through a suprapubic 15-mm trocar port for palpation of small myomas, which did not distort the uterine contour. RESULTS: The mean (SD; range) patient age was 38.26 years (5.84; 25-48 years). The diameter of the largest myoma in each case was 6.13 cm (1.21; 4-15 cm). The total number of myomas enucleated in the initial enucleation was 2228. There were 597 additional myomas enucleated with finger-assisted guidance. The mean diameter of the additionally enucleated myomas was 1.1 cm (range, 0.2-2.5 cm), which was significantly smaller than those of the initially enucleated myomas (p=0.002). The mean operative time was 97.1 min (30.2; 35-180 min). The decrease in postoperative hemoglobin concentration was 1.6g/dL (0.7; 0.4-3.2g/dL). During the operation, no patients required a blood transfusion. Six patients developed postoperative fever. There was no occurrence of bowel or urinary tract injury. The mean postoperative hospital stay was 3.2 days (0.9; 2-6 d). All procedures were successfully completed without the need for laparotomy. CONCLUSIONS: Finger-assisted laparoscopic myomectomy is a feasible and safe approach in the surgical treatment of multiple myomas.

RESUMO

Interleukin (IL)-6 is a multifunctional cytokine which has been showed to induce up-regulated expression of Fc epsilon RI receptor and histamine production in mast cells. However, little is known of its effects on Th2 cytokine secretion and protease activated receptor (PAR) expression in mast cells. In the present study, we examined potential influence of IL-6 on IL-13, IL-4 and IL-10 release from P815 cells and PAR expression on P815 cells by using flow cytometry analysis, quantitative real-time PCR, ELISA and cellular activation of signaling ELISA (CASE) techniques. The results showed that IL-6 induced up to 1.8-fold increase in IL-13, but not IL-4 or IL-10 release from P815 cells, and FSLLRY-NH(2) did not affect IL-6 induced IL-13 release. Tryptase elicited 2.0-fold increase in IL-13 release from P815 cells, which can be inhibited by IL-6. IL-6 elicited the up-regulated expression of PAR-1, PAR-2, PAR-3 and PAR-4 mRNAs, but had little effects on expression of PAR proteins. U0126, PD98059 and LY204002 abolished IL-6 induced IL-13 release when they were preincubated with P815 cells, indicating ERK and Akt cell signaling pathways may be involved in the event. In conclusion, IL-6 can stimulate IL-13 release from mast cells through an ERK and Akt cell signaling pathway dependent, but PAR independent mechanism.

RESUMO

GM-CSF has been showed to be able to induce up-regulated receptor and cytokine expression in mast cells in inflammatory conditions. However, little is known of its effects on protease activated receptor (PAR) expression and Th2 cytokine secretion from mast cells. In the present study, we examined potential influence of GM-CSF on mast cell PAR expression and IL-4 and IL-10 release by using flow cytometry analysis, quantitative real time PCR, ELISA and cellular activation of signaling ELISA (CASE) techniques. The results showed that GM-CSF induced up to 3.0-fold increase in IL-4 release from P815 cells, and FSLLRY-NH(2) and trans-cinnamoyl (tc)-YPGKF-NH(2) did not affect GM-CSF induced IL-4 release. GM-CSF reduced tryptase and trypsin induced IL-4 release by up to approximately 55.8% and 70.3%, respectively. GM-CSF elicited the upregulated expression of PAR-1, PAR-2, PAR-3 and PAR-4 mRNAs, but enhanced only PAR-4 protein expression in P815 cells. U0126, PD98059 and LY204002 almost completely abolished GM-CSF induced IL-4 release when they were preincubated with P815 cells for 30 min, indicating ERK and Akt cell signaling pathways may be involved in the event. In conclusion, GM-CSF can stimulate IL-4 release from mast cells through an ERK and Akt cell signaling pathway dependent, but PAR independent mechanism. GM-CSF may serve as a regulator for IL-4 production in mast cells and through which participates in the mast cell related inflammation.

RESUMO

AIM: To evaluate the long-term effects of gonadotropinreleasing hormone (GnRH)-based vaccine on levels of GnRH antibody and testosterone, and vaccine-induced immunocastration on sexual behavior of male rats. METHODS: The rats were treated with GnRH-PE40 intraperitoneally every other day for 12 wk. GnRH antibody and testosterone level in rat blood were determined by ELISA and radioimmunoassay, respectively. Morphological changes in testes and sexual behavior of rats were evaluated. RESULTS: GnRH-PE40 induced a high production in GnRH antibody, decreased the serum testosterone level, testis atrophy and sexual function in rats. CONCLUSION: Intraperitoneal administration of GnRHPE40 produces structural and functional castration of male rat reproductive system by inducing anti-GnRH antibody.
