RESUMO

The results of rehabilitation in 93 cases of complicated cervical vertebrae trauma are presented. The patients were divided into three groups depending on the remoteness of the trauma and the degree of actual neurological deficit. The necessary amount and stages of rehabilitation therapy are defined for each group. Electrophysiological monitoring (EMG, RVG) in the course of treatment and successive follow-up are strongly suggested.

RESUMO

Examination of 25 patients with trauma to the spinal column and cord revealed vasomotor disorders in the upper extremities. These disorders were shown to develop according to a definite pattern and depend on the duration of the injury and the severity of neurological disorders. According to the clinical findings the vascular disturbances were divided into 2 groups: spasmodic and spasmodic-atonic with pathognomonic signs. The importance of vasomotor disturbances in the diagnosis of complicated fractures of the vertebral column is outlined. The severity of the attendant vascular disorders should be taken into account in treating this group of patients.

RESUMO

A patient with impaired cerebrospinal circulation at the thoracic level was observed. Disorders of salt metabolism resulted into the development of calcinosis of the cerebrospinal meninges which in turn brought about its compression whose nature, prior to surgery, was believed to be neoplastic. Compression of the spinal cord, irrespective of its origin, calls for the use of objective methods of study and surgical intervention.
