RESUMO

2D magnetic materials hold substantial promise in information storage and neuromorphic device applications. However, achieving a 2D material with high Curie temperature (TC), environmental stability, and multi-level magnetic states remains a challenge. This is particularly relevant for spintronic devices, which require multi-level resistance states to enhance memory density and fulfil low power consumption and multi-functionality. Here, the synthesis of 2D non-layered triangular and hexagonal magnetite (Fe3O4) nanosheets are proposed with high TC and environmental stability, and demonstrate that the ultrathin triangular nanosheets show broad antiphase boundaries (bAPBs) and sharp antiphase boundaries (sAPBs), which induce multiple spin precession modes and multi-level resistance. Conversely, the hexagonal nanosheets display slip bands with sAPBs associated with pinning effects, resulting in magnetic-field-driven spin texture reversal reminiscent of "0" and "1" switching signals. In support of the micromagnetic simulation, direct explanation is offer to the variation in multi-level resistance under a microwave field, which is ascribed to the multi-spin texture magnetization structure and the randomly distributed APBs within the material. These novel 2D magnetite nanosheets with unique spin textures and spin dynamics provide an exciting platform for constructing real multi-level storage devices catering to emerging information storage and neuromorphic computing requirements.

RESUMO

Conjugated coordination polymers (c-CPs) are unique organic-inorganic hybrid semiconductors with intrinsically high electrical conductivity and excellent charge carrier mobility. However, it remains a challenge in tailoring electronic structures, due to the lack of clear guidelines. Here, we develop a strategy wherein controlling the redox state of hydroquinone/benzoquinone (HQ/BQ) ligands allows for the modulation of the electronic structure of c-CPs while maintaining the structural topology. The redox-state control is achieved by reacting the ligand TTHQ (TTHQ=1,2,4,5-tetrathiolhydroquinone) with silver acetate and silver nitrate, yielding Ag4TTHQ and Ag4TTBQ (TTBQ=1,2,4,5-tetrathiolbenzoquinone), respectively. In spite of sharing the same topology consisting of a two-dimensional Ag-S network and HQ/BQ layer, they exhibit different band gaps (1.5 eV for Ag4TTHQ and 0.5 eV for Ag4TTBQ) and conductivities (0.4 S/cm for Ag4TTHQ and 10 S/cm for Ag4TTBQ). DFT calculations reveal that these differences arise from the ligand oxidation state inhibiting energy band formation near the Fermi level in Ag4TTHQ. Consequently, Ag4TTHQ displays a high Seebeck coefficient of 330 µV/K and a power factor of 10 µW/m ⋅ K2, surpassing Ag4TTBQ and the other reported silver-based c-CPs. Furthermore, terahertz spectroscopy demonstrates high charge mobilities exceeding 130 cm2/V ⋅ s in both Ag4TTHQ and Ag4TTBQ.

RESUMO

The layered, air-stable van der Waals antiferromagnetic compound CrSBr exhibits pronounced coupling among its optical, electronic, and magnetic properties. As an example, exciton dynamics can be significantly influenced by lattice vibrations through exciton-phonon coupling. Using low-temperature photoluminescence spectroscopy, we demonstrate the effective coupling between excitons and phonons in nanometer-thick CrSBr. By careful analysis, we identify that the satellite peaks predominantly arise from the interaction between the exciton and an optical phonon with a frequency of 118 cm-1 (∼14.6 meV) due to the out-of-plane vibration of Br atoms. Power-dependent and temperature-dependent photoluminescence measurements support exciton-phonon coupling and indicate a coupling between magnetic and optical properties, suggesting the possibility of carrier localization in the material. The presence of strong coupling between the exciton and the lattice may have important implications for the design of light-matter interactions in magnetic semiconductors and provide insights into the exciton dynamics in CrSBr. This highlights the potential for exploiting exciton-phonon coupling to control the optical properties of layered antiferromagnetic materials.

RESUMO

The deterministic creation and modification of domain walls in ferroelectric films have attracted broad interest due to their unprecedented potential as the active element in non-volatile memory, logic computation and energy-harvesting technologies. However, the correlation between charged and antiphase states, and their hybridization into a single domain wall still remain elusive. Here we demonstrate the facile fabrication of antiphase boundaries in BiFeO3 thin films using a He-ion implantation process. Cross-sectional electron microscopy, spectroscopy and piezoresponse force measurement reveal the creation of a continuous in-plane charged antiphase boundaries around the implanted depth and a variety of atomic bonding configurations at the antiphase interface, showing the atomically sharp 180° polarization reversal across the boundary. Therefore, this work not only inspires a domain-wall fabrication strategy using He-ion implantation, which is compatible with the wafer-scale patterning, but also provides atomic-scale structural insights for its future utilization in domain-wall nanoelectronics.

RESUMO

Layered magnetic materials are becoming a major platform for future spin-based applications. Particularly, the air-stable van der Waals compound CrSBr is attracting considerable interest due to its prominent magneto-transport and magneto-optical properties. In this work, we observe a transition from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic behavior in CrSBr crystals exposed to high-energy, non-magnetic ions. Already at moderate fluences, ion irradiation induces a remanent magnetization with hysteresis adapting to the easy-axis anisotropy of the pristine magnetic order up to a critical temperature of 110 K. Structure analysis of the irradiated crystals in conjunction with density functional theory calculations suggests that the displacement of constituent atoms due to collisions with ions and the formation of interstitials favors ferromagnetic order between the layers.

RESUMO

Electrochemical proton storage plays an essential role in designing next-generation high-rate energy storage devices, e.g., aqueous batteries. Two-dimensional conjugated covalent organic frameworks (2D c-COFs) are promising electrode materials, but their competitive proton and metal-ion insertion mechanisms remain elusive, and proton storage in COFs is rarely explored. Here, we report a perinone-based poly(benzimidazobenzophenanthroline) (BBL)-ladder-type 2D c-COF for fast proton storage in both a mild aqueous Zn-ion electrolyte and strong acid. We unveil that the discharged C-O- groups exhibit largely reduced basicity due to the considerable π-delocalization in perinone, thus affording the 2D c-COF a unique affinity for protons with fast kinetics. As a consequence, the 2D c-COF electrode presents an outstanding rate capability of up to 200 A g-1 (over 2500 C), surpassing the state-of-the-art conjugated polymers, COFs, and metal-organic frameworks. Our work reports the first example of pure proton storage among COFs and highlights the great potential of BBL-ladder-type 2D conjugated polymers in future energy devices.

RESUMO

Photonic integrated circuits require photodetectors that operate at room temperature with sensitivity at telecom wavelengths and are suitable for integration with planar complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. Silicon hyperdoped with deep-level impurities is a promising material for silicon infrared detectors because of its strong room-temperature photoresponse in the short-wavelength infrared region caused by the creation of an impurity band within the silicon band gap. In this work, we present the first experimental demonstration of lateral Te-hyperdoped Si PIN photodetectors operating at room temperature in the optical telecom bands. We provide a detailed description of the fabrication process, working principle, and performance of the photodiodes, including their key figure of merits. Our results are promising for the integration of active and passive photonic elements on a single Si chip, leveraging the advantages of planar CMOS technology.

RESUMO

Quasi-2D (q2D) conjugated polymers (CPs) are polymers that consist of linear CP chains assembled through non-covalent interactions to form a layered structure. In this work, the synthesis of a novel crystalline q2D polypyrrole (q2DPPy) film at the air/H2 SO4 (95%) interface is reported. The unique interfacial environment facilitates chain extension, prevents disorder, and results in a crystalline, layered assembly of protonated quinoidal chains with a fully extended conformation in its crystalline domains. This unique structure features highly delocalized π-electron systems within the extended chains, which is responsible for the low effective mass and narrow electronic bandgap. Thus, the temperature-dependent charge-transport properties of q2DPPy are investigated using the van der Pauw (vdP) method and terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). The vdP method reveals that the q2DPPy film exhibits a semiconducting behavior with a thermally activated hopping mechanism in long-range transport between the electrodes. Conversely, THz-TDS reveals a band-like transport, indicating intrinsic charge transport up to a record short-range high THz mobility of ≈107.1 cm2 V-1 s-1 .

RESUMO

B20-CoSi is a newly discovered Weyl semimetal that crystallizes into a noncentrosymmetric crystal structure. However, the investigation of B20-CoSi has so far been focused on bulk materials, whereas the growth of thin films on technology-relevant substrates is a prerequisite for most practical applications. In this study, we have used millisecond-range flash-lamp annealing, a nonequilibrium solid-state reaction, to grow B20-CoSi thin films. By optimizing the annealing parameters, we were able to obtain thin films with a pure B20-CoSi phase. The magnetic and transport measurements indicate the appearance of the charge density wave and chiral anomaly. Our work presents a promising method for preparing thin films of most binary B20 transition-metal silicides, which are candidates for topological Weyl semimetals.

RESUMO

Hybrid waveguides consisting of two-dimensional layered materials pad on the surface of optical waveguides suffer from a nonuniform and loose contact between the two-dimensional material and the waveguide, which can reduce the efficiency of the pulsed laser. Here, we present high-performance passively Q-switched pulsed lasers in three distinct structures of monolayer graphene-Nd:YAG hybrid waveguides irradiated by energetic ions. The ion irradiation enables the monolayer graphene a tight contact and strong coupling with the waveguide. As a result, Q-switched pulsed lasers with narrow pulse width and high repetition rate are obtained in three designed hybrid waveguides. The narrowest pulse width is 43.6 ns, provided by the ion-irradiated Y-branch hybrid waveguide. This study paves the way toward developing on-chip laser sources based on hybrid waveguides by using ion irradiation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The motor symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) are commonly preceded by gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms. The enteric nervous system (ENS) has also been reported to exhibit neuropathological characteristics of PD. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the relationship between the incidence of parkinsonism and alteration in gut microbiota and pathogens. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Studies in different languages that evaluate the relationship between gut microorganisms and PD were included into this meta-analysis. The outcomes of these studies were analyzed using a random effects model; it was also used to calculate the mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) in order to quantify the impact of different rehabilitation techniques on clinical parameters. Dichotomous and continuous models were used for the analysis of extracted data. RESULTS: A total of 28 studies were included in our analysis. The analysis of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth showed a significant correlation with Parkinson's subjects compared with controls (p < 0.001). In addition, the presence of Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection was significantly related to the Parkinson's group (p < 0.001). On the other hand, there was a significantly higher abundance level of Bifidobacteriaceae (p = 0.008), Verrucomicrobiaceae (p < 0.001) and Christensenellaceae (p = 0.003) in Parkinson's subjects. In contrast, a significantly lower abundance levels in Parkinson's subjects were found in Faecalibacterium (p = 0.03), Lachnospiraceae (p = 0.005) and Prevotellaceae (p = 0.005). No significant difference was related to Ruminococcaceae. CONCLUSION: Parkinson's subjects showed a higher degree of alteration of gut microbiota and pathogens compared with normal human subjects. Future multicenter randomized trials are needed.

RESUMO

Layered van der Waals crystals exhibit unique properties making them attractive for applications in nanoelectronics, optoelectronics, and sensing. The integration of two-dimensional materials with complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology requires controllable n- and p-type doping. In this work, we demonstrate the fabrication of vertical p-n heterojunctions made of p-type tin monoselenide (SnSe) and n-type tin diselenide (SnSe2). The p-n heterojunction is created in a single flake by the NH3-plasma-assisted phase transformation from SnSe2 to SnSe. We show that the transformation rate and crystal quality strongly depend on plasma parameters like plasma power, temperature, partial pressure, NH3 flow, and duration of plasma treatment. With optimal plasma parameters, the full transformation of SnSe2 flakes into SnSe is achieved within a few seconds. The crystal quality and the topography of the fabricated SnSe-SnSe2 heterostructures are investigated using micro-Raman spectroscopy and cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy. The formation of a p-n junction is verified by current-voltage measurements.

RESUMO

In this Letter, we report a tailored 532/1064-nm demultiplexer based on a multimode interference (MMI) coupler with an efficiency of 100%. The device structure is designed according to the self-imaging principle, and the propagation and the wavelength division performance are simulated by the beam propagation method. The demultiplexer is fabricated in a y-cut LiNbO3 crystal by femtosecond laser direct writing (FLDW) combined with the ion implantation technique. The end-face coupling system is used to measure the near field intensity distribution, and the spectra collected from the output ports are obtained by spectrometers. The simulated and the experimental results indicate that the customized demultiplexer in the LiNbO3 crystal presents excellent wavelength division performance operating at 532 nm and 1064 nm. This work demonstrates the application potential of FLDW technology for developing miniaturized photonic components and provides a new strategy for fabricating high-efficiency integrated wavelength division devices on an optical monocrystalline platform.

RESUMO

Electrically conductive coordination polymers and metal-organic frameworks are attractive emerging electroactive materials for (opto-)electronics. However, developing semiconducting coordination polymers with high charge carrier mobility for devices remains a major challenge, urgently requiring the rational design of ligands and topological networks with desired electronic structures. Herein, we demonstrate a strategy for synthesizing high-mobility semiconducting conjugated coordination polymers (c-CPs) utilizing novel conjugated ligands with D2h symmetry, namely, "4 + 2" phenyl ligands. Compared with the conventional phenyl ligands with C6h symmetry, the reduced symmetry of the "4 + 2" ligands leads to anisotropic coordination in the formation of c-CPs. Consequently, we successfully achieve a single-crystalline three-dimensional (3D) c-CP Cu4DHTTB (DHTTB = 2,5-dihydroxy-1,3,4,6-tetrathiolbenzene), containing orthogonal ribbon-like π-d conjugated chains rather than 2D conjugated layers. DFT calculation suggests that the resulting Cu4DHTTB exhibits a small band gap (∼0.2 eV), strongly dispersive energy bands near the Fermi level with a low electron-hole reduced effective mass (∼0.2m0*). Furthermore, the four-probe method reveals a semiconducting behavior with a decent conductivity of 0.2 S/cm. Thermopower measurement suggests that it is a p-type semiconductor. Ultrafast terahertz photoconductivity measurements confirm Cu4DHTTB's semiconducting nature and demonstrate the Drude-type transport with high charge carrier mobilities up to 88 ± 15 cm2 V-1 s-1, outperforming the conductive 3D coordination polymers reported till date. This molecular design strategy for constructing high-mobility semiconducting c-CPs lays the foundation for achieving high-performance c-CP-based (opto-)electronics.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional conjugated metal-organic frameworks (2D c-MOFs) have attracted increasing interests for (opto)-electronics and spintronics. They generally consist of van der Waals stacked layers and exhibit layer-depended electronic properties. While considerable efforts have been made to regulate the charge transport within a layer, precise control of electronic coupling between layers has not yet been achieved. Herein, we report a strategy to precisely tune interlayer charge transport in 2D c-MOFs via side-chain induced control of the layer spacing. We design hexaiminotriindole ligands allowing programmed functionalization with tailored alkyl chains (HATI_CX, X = 1,3,4; X refers to the carbon numbers of the alkyl chains) for the synthesis of semiconducting Ni3(HATI_CX)2. The layer spacing of these MOFs can be precisely varied from 3.40 to 3.70 Å, leading to widened band gap, suppressed carrier mobilities, and significant improvement of the Seebeck coefficient. With this demonstration, we further achieve a record-high thermoelectric power factor of 68 ± 3 nW m-1 K-2 in Ni3(HATI_C3)2, superior to the reported holes-dominated MOFs.

RESUMO

The modulation of structural color through various methods has attracted considerable attention. Herein, a new modulation method for the structural colors in all-dielectric photonic crystals (PCs) using energetic ion beams is proposed. One type of periodic PC and two different defective PCs were experimentally investigated. Under carbon-ion irradiation, the color variation primarily originated from the blue shift of the optical spectra. The varying degrees of both the reflection and transmission structural colors mainly depended on the carbon-ion fluences. Such nanostructures are promising for tunable color filters and double-sided chromatic displays based on PCs.

RESUMO

High dielectric constant materials are of particular current interests as indispensable components in transistors, capacitors, etc. In this context, there are emerging trends to exploit defect engineering in dielectric ceramics for enhancing the performance. However, demonstrations of similar high dielectric performance in integration-compatible crystalline films are rare. Herein, such a breakthrough via the functionalization of donor-acceptor dipoles by compositional tuning in GaCu codoped ZnO films is reported. The dielectric constant reaches ~200 at 1 kHz and the optical transmittance in visible light reaches ~80%. Importantly, by analyzing the impedance spectroscopy data, prominent relaxation mechanisms in correlation with the dipole properties, enabling consistent explanations of the dielectric constant as a function of frequency are discriminated. The atomistic nature of the dipoles is revealed by the systematic X-ray spectroscopy analysis. Spectacularly, similar trends for the dielectric properties are observed, while synthesizing samples by pulsed laser deposition and ion implantation, indicating the general character of the phenomena.

RESUMO

B20-type MnSi is the prototype magnetic skyrmion material. Thin films of MnSi show a higher Curie temperature than their bulk counterpart. However, it is not yet clear what mechanism leads to the increase of the Curie temperature. In this work, we grow MnSi films on Si(100) and Si(111) substrates with a broad variation in their structures. By controlling the Mn thickness and annealing parameters, the pure MnSi phase of polycrystalline and textured nature as well as the mixed phase of MnSi and MnSi1.7 are obtained. Surprisingly, all these MnSi films show an increased Curie temperature of up to around 43 K. The Curie temperature is likely independent of the structural parameters within our accessibility including the film thickness above a threshold, strain, cell volume and the mixture with MnSi1.7. However, a pronounced phonon softening is observed for all samples, which can tentatively be attributed to slight Mn excess from stoichiometry, leading to the increased Curie temperature.

RESUMO

Highly sensitive short-wave infrared (SWIR) detectors, compatible with the silicon-based complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process, are regarded as the key enabling components in the miniaturized system for weak signal detection. To date, the high photogain devices are greatly limited by a large bias voltage, low-temperature refrigeration, narrow response band, and complex fabrication processes. Here, we demonstrate high photogain detectors working in the SWIR region at room temperature, which use graphene for charge transport and Te-hyperdoped silicon (Te-Si) for infrared absorption. The prolonged lifetime of carriers, combined with the built-in potential generated at the interface between the graphene and the Te-Si, leads to an ultrahigh photogain of 109 at room temperature (300 K) for 1.55 µm light. The gain can be improved to 1012, accompanied by a noise equivalent power (NEP) of 0.08 pW Hz-1/2 at 80 K. Moreover, the proposed device exhibits a NEP of 4.36 pW Hz-1/2 at 300 K at the wavelength of 2.7 µm, which is exceeding the working region of InGaAs detectors. This research shows that graphene can be used as an efficient platform for silicon-based SWIR detection and provides a strategy for the low-power, uncooled, high-gain infrared detectors compatible with the CMOS process.
