RESUMO

Pancreatic cancer is a prevalent malignant tumor with rising medication resistance and mortality. Due to a dearth of specific and trustworthy biomarkers and therapeutic targets, pancreatic cancer early detection and treatment are still not at their best. Exosomal LncRNAs have been found to be plentiful and persistent within exosomes, and they are capable of functioning whether the exosomes are traveling to close or distant cells. Furthermore, increasing evidence suggests that exosomal LncRNA, identified as an oncogene or tumor suppressor-control the growth, metastasis, and susceptibility of pancreatic cancer to chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Promising prospects for both antitumor targets and diagnostic biomarkers are exosomal LncRNAs. The primary features of exosomal LncRNAs, their biological roles in the onset and progression of pancreatic cancer, and their potential as therapeutic targets and diagnostic molecular markers are outlined in this review.

RESUMO

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is currently the third most common malignancy world-wide, with an increasing mortality rate and treatment resistance. Due to the lack of effective biomarkers and therapeutic targets, the early diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer re-main suboptimal. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a novel class of non-coding RNAs with co-valent closed-loop structures that are well stabilized and conserved and are involved in multi-ple pathological conditions in humans. CircRNAs have been identified to be enriched and sta-ble in exosomes. In addition, there is growing proof that exosomal circRNAs that have been identified as oncogenes or tumor suppressors regulate CRC growth, migration, and sensitivity to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Exosomal circRNAs represent promising candidates as di-agnostic biomarkers and anti-tumor targets. In this article, we explore recent studies on exo-somal circRNAs in CRC and describe their biological functions in colorectal cancer develop-ment, illustrating their potential as biomarkers and targeted therapeutic capabilities.

RESUMO

Objective: To create a novel chitosan antibacterial hemostatic sponge (NCAHS) and to evaluate its material and biological properties. Methods: Chitosan, a polysaccharide, was used as the sponge substrate and different proportions of sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP), glycerol, and phenol sulfonyl ethylamine were added to prepare the sponges through the freeze-drying method. The whole-blood coagulation index (BCI) was used as the screening criterion to determine the optimal concentrations of chitosan and the other additives and the hemostatic sponges were prepared accordingly. Zein/calcium carbonate (Zein/CaCO3) composite microspheres loaded with ciprofloxacin hydrochloride were prepared and added to the hemostatic sponges to obtain NCAHS. Scanning electron microscope was used to observe the microscopic morphology and porosity of the NCAHS. The water absorption rate, in vitro antibacterial susceptibility rate against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli), in vitro coagulation performance, and hemocompatibility of NCAHS were examined. The coagulation performance of NCAHS was evaluated by using rabbit liver injury and rabbit auricular artery hemorrhageear models and commercial hemostatic sponge (CHS) was used as a control. The in vivo biocompatibility, including such aspects as cytotoxicity, skin irritation in animals, and acute in vivo toxicity, of the NCAHS extracts was examined by using as a reference the national standards for biological evaluation of medical devices. Results: The NCAHS prepared with 1.5% chitosan (W/V), 0.01% STPP (W/V), 0% glycerol (V/V), 0.15% phenol-sulfonyl-ethylamine (V/V), Zein and CaCO3 at the mixing ratio of 5∶1 (W/W), Zein at the final mass concentration of 2.5 g/L, and ethanol at the final concentration of 17.5% (V/V) were fine and homogeneous, possessing a honeycomb-like porous structure with a pore size of about 200 µm. The NCAHS thus prepared had the lowest BCI value. The water absorption ([2362.16±201.15] % vs. [1102.56±91.79]%) and in vitro coagulation performance (31.338% vs. 1.591%) of NCAHS were significantly better than those of CHS (P<0.01). Tests with the in vivo auricular artery hemorrhage model ([36.00±13.42] s vs. [80.00±17.32] s) and rabbit liver bleeding model ([30.00±0] s vs. [70.00±17.32] s) showed that the hemostasis time of NCAHS was significantly shorter than that of CHS (P<0.01). NCAHS had significant inhibitory ability against S. aureus and E. coli. In addition, NCAHS showed good in vitro and in vivo biocompatibility. Conclusion: NCAHS is a composite sponge that shows excellent antimicrobial properties, hemostatic effect, and biocompatibility. Therefore, its extensive application in clinical settings is warranted.

RESUMO

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by progressive and irreversible airflow obstruction with abnormal lung function. Because its pathogenesis involves multiple aspects of oxidative stress, immunity and inflammation, apoptosis, airway and lung repair and destruction, the clinical approach to COPD treatment is not further updated. Therefore, it is crucial to discover a new means of COPD diagnosis and treatment. COPD etiology is associated with complex interactions between environmental and genetic determinants. Numerous genes are involved in the pathogenic process of this illness in research samples exposed to hazardous environmental conditions. Among them, Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to be involved in the molecular mechanisms of COPD development induced by different environmental exposures and genetic susceptibility encounters, and some potential lncRNA biomarkers have been identified as early diagnostic, disease course determination, and therapeutic targets for COPD. In this review, we summarize the expression profiles of the reported lncRNAs that have been reported in COPD studies related to environmental risk factors such as smoking and air pollution exposure and provided an overview of the roles of those lncRNAs in the pathogenesis of the disease.

RESUMO

The design of the light environment plays a critical role in the interaction between people and visual objects in space. Adjusting the space's light environment to regulate emotional experience is more practical for the observers under lighting conditions. Although lighting plays a vital role in spatial design, the effects of colored lights on individuals' emotional experiences are still unclear. This study combined physiological signal (galvanic skin response (GSR) and electrocardiography (ECG)) measurements and subjective assessments to detect the changes in the mood states of observers under four sets of lighting conditions (green, blue, red, and yellow). At the same time, two sets of abstract and realistic images were designed to discuss the relationship between light and visual objects and their influence on individuals' impressions. The results showed that different light colors significantly affected mood, with red light having the most substantial emotional arousal, then blue and green. In addition, GSR and ECG measurements were significantly correlated with impressions evaluation results of interest, comprehension, imagination, and feelings in subjective evaluation. Therefore, this study explores the feasibility of combining the measurement of GSR and ECG signals with subjective evaluations as an experimental method of light, mood, and impressions, which provided empirical evidence for regulating individuals' emotional experiences.
