RESUMO

This paper presents a groundbreaking Ku-band 20W RF front-end power amplifier (PA), designed to address numerous challenges encountered by satellite communication systems, including those pertaining to stability, linearity, cost, and size. The manuscript commences with an exhaustive discussion of system design and operational principles, emphasizing the intricacies of low-noise amplification, and incorporating key considerations such as noise factors, stability analysis, gain, and gain flatness. Subsequently, an in-depth study is conducted on various components of the RF chain, including the pre-amplification module, driver-amplification module, and final-stage amplification module. The holistic design extends to the inclusion of the display and control unit, featuring the power-control module, monitoring module, and overall layout design of the PA. It is meticulously tailored to meet the specific demands of satellite communication. Following this, a thorough exploration of electromagnetic simulation and measurement results ensues, providing validation for the precision and reliability of the proposed design. Finally, the feasibility of that design is substantiated through systematic system design, prototype production, and exhaustive experimental testing. It is noteworthy that, in the space-simulation environmental test, emphasis is placed on the excellent performance of the Star Ku-band PA within the 13.75GHz to 14.5GHz frequency range. Detailed power scan measurements reveal a P1dB of 43dBm, maintaining output power flatness < ± 0.5dBm across the entire frequency and temperature spectrum. Third-order intermodulation scan measurements indicate a third-order intermodulation of ≤ -23dBc. Detailed results of power monitoring demonstrate a range from +18dBm to +54dBm. Scans of spurious suppression and harmonic suppression, meanwhile, show that the PA evinces spurious suppression ≤ -65dBc and harmonic suppression ≤ -60dBc. Rigorous phase-scan measurements exhibit a phase-shift adjustment range of 0° to 360°, with a step of 5.625°, and a phase-shift accuracy of 0.5dB. Detailed data from gain-scan measurements show a gain-adjustment range of 0dB to 30dB, with a gain flatness of ± 0.5dB. Attenuation error is ≤ 1%. These test parameters perfectly align with the practical application requirements of the technical specifications. When compared to existing Ku-band PAs, our design reflects a deeper consideration of specific requirements in satellite communication, ensuring its outstanding performance and uniqueness. This PA features good stability, high linearity, low cost, and compact modularity, ensuring continuous and stable power output. These features position the proposed system as a leader within the market. Successful orbital deployment not only validates its operational stability; it also makes a significant contribution to the advancement of China's satellite PA technology, generating positive socio-economic benefits.

For monitoring the extent of eutrophication in water, phosphorus (P) was detected by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). A plasma amplification method was proposed and the filtered aerosol was guided to interact with the collinear laser in conjunction with a nebulizer, cyclonic spray chamber, and quartz tube. With this method, the length of the plasma was amplified from 5.27∼8.73 to 17.58 mm. Moreover, the limit of detection (LoD) values of P in water improved from 6.13∼17.75 to 3.60 ppm. Furthermore, the average relative error (REAV) values reduced from 10.23∼23.84 to 6.17%. The root mean square error of cross-validation (RMSECV) values decreased from 16.68∼64.29 to 3.24 ppm. This demonstrated that plasma amplification LIBS could improve the quantitative analysis performance of LIBS detection of trace phosphorus in water.

Optical fiber sensors are used for partial discharge detection in many applications due their advantage of strong anti-electromagnetic interference capability. Multi-point distributed partial discharge detection and location are important for electrical equipment. In this paper, a distributed partial discharge location and detection scheme based on optical fiber Rayleigh backscattering light interference is experimentally demonstrated. At the same time, the location and extraction algorithm is used to demodulate the partial discharge signal; furthermore, the high-pass filter is used to reduce the system low-frequency noise and environment noise. It is clear that the proposed system can detect a partial discharge signal generated by metal needle sensitivity, and the detectable frequency range is 0-2.5 kHz. We carried out 10 locating tests for two sensing units, the experimental results show that the maximum location error is 1.0 m, and the maximum standard deviation is 0.3795. At same time, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of sensing unit 1 and sensing unit 2 are greatly improved after demodulation, which are 39.7 and 38.8, respectively. This provides a new method for a multipoint-distributed optical fiber sensor used for detecting and locating a long-distance electrical equipment partial discharge signal.

Based on the Snyder-Mitchell linear model and the cross-spectral density (CSD) function, the analytical propagation formula of twisted Gaussian Schell-model (TGSM) beams in strongly nonlocal nonlinear medium (SNNM) is derived. Then the propagation characteristics of TGSM beam are studied. It is found that the soliton radius is jointly determined by the initial power, coherence length, and twist factor; the degree of spatial coherence is adjusted by changing the twist factor without affecting the soliton intensity. In the case of non-soliton properties, there is a threshold of coherence length which makes partially coherent beams have the same evolution law as completely coherent beams. Furthermore, increasing the twist factor, decreasing the coherence length and initial power can improve the beam quality of the beam propagating in SNNM.

We first introduce a class of a superimposed Hermite-Gaussian-correlated Schell model with a multiple off-axis vortices beam, with the side lobe of the beam carrying one to four vortex singularities at the source plane. Subsequently, the variation laws of this beam after being focused by a thin lens are studied theoretically to obtain the optimal beam parameters. The numerical simulation results show that the beam possesses a unique multiple vortex structure, phase structure, and orbital angular momentum. Its intensity resembles a spiral staircase rotating around the axes. The rotational symmetry property of the transverse energy flow along the z axis was broken by the vortices. The hot spot position can be adjusted flexibly by changing the off-axis distance of vortices. This study is of great significance for nondestructive capture and manipulation of multiple particles or cells.

A general form of twisted Hermite Gaussian Schell-model (THGSM) beams is introduced; analytical expressionsare obtained for cross-spectral density and M2-factor using the extended Huygens-Fresnel principle and Wigner function. The evolution of THGSM beams during propagation in non-Kolmogorov turbulence is shown numerically; the beams exhibit self-splitting and twist into two lobes. The intensity distribution evolves into a Gaussian shape and beam quality worsens with increasing distance; the intensity distribution and M2-factor are determined by the twist factor, beam orders, and other beam parameters. THGSM beams provide more degrees of freedom to regulate beam parameters, thereby enriching the types of partially coherent beams.

To improve the quantitative analysis accuracy of an aqueous solution using surface-enhanced laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (SENLIBS), the filter paper was used as a transmission medium by placing it onto the surface of a metallic substrate to make the microdroplet spreading more uniform in a fixed region of the substrate surface. The trace elements (Cu, Pb, Cd, and Cr) in an aqueous solution were detected successfully using this method. The results showed that the sample preparation repeatability of SENLIBS was noticeably improved with the aid of filter paper. Moreover, the limit of detection (LoD) values was similar to those without filter paper. Furthermore, the R2 values were improved from 0.6192~0.9321 to 0.9481~0.9766, the RMSECV values were decreased from 0.53~1.95 µg/mL to 0.33~1.06 µg/mL, and the average relative error (ARE) values were decreased from 8.96~22.31% to 4.28~14.37% with the aid of filter paper. This demonstrated that the use of filter paper could improve the quantitative analysis accuracy of SENLIBS by increasing the sample preparation repeatability.

We derive the probabilities of the signal OAM state and crosstalk OAM state for a Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beam propagating through Kolmogorov and Non-Kolmogorov turbulence, and derive the accurate analytical function of the probability for the received OAM state modulated by an arbitrary receiver aperture. The probability of the detected OAM state with a receiver aperture for different values of the radius is demonstrated numerically. Our numerical results show that the probability of the signal OAM state remains almost invariant when the radius of the receiver aperture varies. The probability of the crosstalk OAM state decreases with the decrease of the radius of the receiver aperture, thus it can be optimized by choosing a suitable value of the radius of the receiver aperture. Our results will be useful in free-space optical communications.

Our previous work demonstrated that berberine (BBR) increases insulin receptor (InsR) expression and improves glucose utility both in vitro and in animal models. Here, we study the InsR-up-regulating and glucose-lowering activities of BBR in humans. Our results showed that BBR increased InsR messenger RNA and protein expression in a variety of human cell lines, including CEM, HCT-116, SW1990, HT1080, 293T, and hepatitis B virus-transfected human liver cells. Accordingly, insulin-stimulated phosphorylations of InsR beta-subunit and Akt were increased after BBR treatment in cultured cells. In the clinical study, BBR significantly lowered fasting blood glucose (FBG), hemoglobin A(1c), triglyceride, and insulin levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The FBG- and hemoglobin A(1c)-lowering efficacies of BBR were similar to those of metformin and rosiglitazone. In the BBR-treated patients, the percentages of peripheral blood lymphocytes that express InsR were significantly elevated after therapy. Berberine also lowered FBG effectively in chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C patients with T2DM or impaired fasting glucose. Liver function was improved greatly in these patients by showing reduction of liver enzymes. Our results confirmed the activity of BBR on InsR in humans and its relationship with the glucose-lowering effect. Together with our previous report, we strongly suggest BBR as an ideal medicine for T2DM with a mechanism different from metformin and rosiglitazone.
