RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a diabetic complication. LncRNAs are reported to participate in the pathophysiology of DN. Here, the function and mechanism of lncRNA small nucleolar RNA host gene 14 (SNHG14) in DN were explored. METHODS: Streptozotocin (STZ)-induced DN mouse models and high glucose (HG)-treated human mesangial cells (MCs) were used to detect SNHG14 expression. SNHG14 silencing plasmids were applied to examine the function of SNHG14 on proliferation and fibrosis in HG-treated MCs. Potential targets of SNHG14 were predicted using bioinformatics tools and verified by luciferase reporter, RNA pulldown, and northern blotting assays. The functional role of SNHG14 in DN in vivo was detected by injection with adenoviral vector carrying sh-SNHG14 into DN mice. Serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, blood glucose, 24-h proteinuria, relative kidney weight, and renal pathological changes were examined in DN mice. RESULTS: SNHG14 expression was elevated in the kidneys of DN mice and HG-treated MCs. SNHG14 silencing inhibited proliferation and fibrosis of HG-stimulated MCs. SNHG14 bound to miR-30e-5p to upregulate SOX4 expression. In rescue assays, SOX4 elevation diminished the effects of SNHG14 silencing in HG-treated MCs, and SOX4 silencing reversed the effects of SNHG14 overexpression. In in vivo studies, SNHG14 downregulation significantly ameliorated renal injuries and renal interstitial fibrosis in DN mice. CONCLUSIONS: SNHG14 silencing attenuates kidney injury in DN mice and reduces proliferation and fibrotic phenotype of HG-stimulated MCs via the miR-30e-5p/SOX4 axis.

RESUMO

Quantum imaging has non-negligible advantages in terms of sensitivity, signal-to-noise ratio, and novel imaging schemes. Based on metasurfaces, the information density and stability of the quantum imaging system can be further improved. Here we experimentally demonstrate that two patterns, simultaneously and independently superimposed on a high-efficiency dielectric metasurface, can be remotely switched via polarization-entangled photon pairs. Furthermore, using the time-correlated property of entangled photon pairs, the information carried by quantum light can be remarkably discriminated from background noise. This work confirms that the phase manipulation of quantum light with metasurfaces has a huge potential in the field of quantum imaging, quantum state tomography, and also promises real-world quantum metasurface devices.

RESUMO

The three primary colour model, i.e., red, green, and blue model, based on the colour perception of the human eye, has been widely used in colour imaging. The most common approach for obtaining colour information is to use a Bayer colour filter, which filters colour light with four pixels of an imaging sensor to form an effective colour pixel. However, its energy utilization efficiency and colour collection efficiency are limited to a low level due to the three-channel filtering nature. Here, by employing an inverse-design method, we demonstrate a pixel-level metasurface-based Bayer-type colour router that presents peak colour collection efficiencies of 58%, 59%, and 49% for red, green and blue light, and an average energy utilization efficiency as high as 84% over the visible region (400 nm-700 nm), which is twice as high as that of a commercial Bayer colour filter. Furthermore, by using a 200 µm × 200 µm metasurface-based colour router sample working with a monochromatic imaging sensor, colour imaging is further realized, obtaining an image intensity twice that achieved by a commercial Bayer colour filter. Our work innovates the mechanism of high-efficiency spectrum information acquisition, which is expected to have promising applications in the development of next-generation imaging systems.

RESUMO

Ideal imaging, which is constantly pursued, requires the collection of all kinds of optical information of the objects in view, such as three-dimensional spatial information (3D) including the planar distribution and depth, and the colors, i.e., spectral information (1D). Although three-dimensional spatial imaging and spectral imaging have individually evolved rapidly, their straightforward combination is a cumbersome system, severely hindering the practical applications of four-dimensional (4D) imaging. Here, we demonstrate the ultra-compact spectral light-field imaging (SLIM) by using a transversely dispersive metalens array and a monochrome imaging sensor. With only one snapshot, the SLIM presents advanced imaging with a 4 nm spectral resolution and near-diffraction-limit spatial resolution. Consequently, visually indistinguishable objects and materials can be discriminated through SLIM, which promotes significant progress towards ideal plenoptic imaging.

RESUMO

Metasurfaces are 2D metamaterials composed of subwavelength nanoantennas according to specific design. They have been utilized to precisely manipulate various parameters of light fields, such as phase, polarization, amplitude, etc., showing promising functionalities. Among all meta-devices, the metalens can be considered as the most basic and important application, given its significant advantage in integration and miniaturization compared with traditional lenses. However, the resonant dispersion of each nanoantenna in a metalens and the intrinsic chromatic dispersion of planar devices and optical materials result in a large chromatic aberration in metalenses that severely reduces the quality of their focusing and imaging. Consequently, how to effectively suppress or manipulate the chromatic aberration of metalenses has attracted worldwide attention in the last few years, leading to variety of excellent achievements promoting the development of this field. Herein, recent progress in chromatic dispersion control based on metalenses is reviewed.

RESUMO

A polarization-insensitive and angle-independent graphene absorber (GA) with periodically patterned grating is demonstrated. A periodic nanocavity composed of multilayer subwavelength grating and metal substrate supports a strongly localized mode inside the cavity, where the mode helps to absorb more electromagnetic waves. The proposed GA exhibits polarization-insensitive behavior and maintains the high absorption above 90% within a wide range of incident angle (more than 80°). We attribute the high absorption to the excitation of the cavity mode resonance and magnetic resonance for the transverse electric and transverse magnetic polarizations, respectively. The proposed GA has potential applications in the design of various devices, such as optical modulators or tunable absorption filters because of its remarkable angle-insensitive absorption performance.
