RESUMO

Primordial odontogenic tumor (POT) is a benign mixed odontogenic tumor comprised of a loose connective tissue with a similar morphology with dental papilla and exhibiting in its periphery the presence of a columnar epithelium. POT occurs in young patients and typically is associated with an unerupted tooth, with the mandible being the main anatomic site of occurrence. The present manuscript is aimed at describing a new case of POT and reviewing the main biologic findings related to this odontogenic tumor.

RESUMO

Paracoccidioidomycosis is a fungal infection initially described in Brazil in 1908 by Adolfo Lutz. Manifestation of this disease depends on numerous factors, such as microorganism virulence, hormonal profile, genetic predisposition, nutrition, and immune system. It is characterized classically by cutaneous lesions, lymphadenopathy, and pulmonary involvement. It presents male predilection, which can be explained by the protective effect of female hormones. Classic presentation within oral cavity is a superficial ulcer characterized by hemorrhagic dots of moriform aspect. Treatment should be established individually and closely monitored. This manuscript aims at reporting five cases of this pathology.

RESUMO

Chondrosarcoma is a malignant cartilaginous tumor that rarely occurs in the maxillofacial bones. A 44-year-old woman complained about swelling and mild pain during mastication in the right parasymphysis region. Clinical and radiographic examinations revealed characteristics of osteosarcoma. A microscopic examination revealed an abundant proliferation of malignant neoplastic cartilage cells of varying sizes arranged as immature tissue and the absence of an osteoid matrix. This article presents a case of chondrosarcoma of the jaw and discusses the differences between osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma.

RESUMO

According to the World Health Organization, hemangiomas are benign vasoformative neoplasms or developmental conditions of endothelial origin. The body region is the most commonly affected part of the mandible, and only 4 cases of condylar tumors have been reported in the literature to date. The differential diagnosis between high and low flow vascular lesions is crucial for successful treatment, decreasing the occurrence of serious intraoperative hemorrhage. The clinical, radiographic, and pathological features of an intraosseous vascular lesion in the mandibular condyle in a 22-year-old male are presented, and the differential diagnostic aspects between hemangioma, vascular malformation, and high or low flow lesions are discussed.

RESUMO

Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common soft-tissue sarcoma of the head and neck region in children and adolescents. Oral cavity involvement is relatively uncommon, with tongue, soft palate, hard palate, and buccal mucosa being the sites of predilection. This report presents a rare case of intraosseous oral rhabdomyosarcoma arising in the mandibular bone of a 6-year-old child. Clinical, radiologic, and histopathologic features and possible pathogenesis are discussed.
