RESUMO

As a remote and non-contact stimulus, light offers the potential for manipulating the polarization of ferroelectric materials without physical contact. However, in current research, the non-contact write-read (erase) process lacks direct observation through the stable current as output signal. To address this limitation, we investigated the photoinduced polarization switching capabilities of the cyanide-bridged compound [Fe2Co] using visible light, leading to the achievement of rewritable polarization. By subjecting [Fe2Co] crystals to alternating irradiation with 785 nm and 532 nm light, the polarization changes exhibited a distinct square wave pattern, confirming the reliability of the writing and erasing processes. Initialization involved exposing specific crystal units to 532 nm light for storing "1" or "0" information, while reading was accomplished by scanning the units with 785 nm light, resulting in brief current pulses for "1" states and no current signal for "0" states. This research unveils new possibilities for optical storage systems, paving the way for efficient and rewritable data storage and retrieval technologies, such as the next-generation memories.

RESUMO

Objective To evaluate the value of SOX1 and PAX1 gene methylation detection in the secondary triage of high-grade cervical lesions. Methods Exfoliated cervical cells were collected from 122 patients tested positive for human papilloma virus (HPV) and subjected to thin-prep cytologic test (TCT) and SOX1/PAX1 gene methylation tests. Results The HPV test combined with TCT showed the sensitivity of 95.24% and the specificity of 23.75% for detecting cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) grade 2 and above (CIN2+).After the addition of the SOX1/PAX1 gene methylation detection in secondary triage, the sensitivity for detecting CIN2+ was 83.33%,which had no statistically significant difference from the sensitivity of TCT combined with HPV test (P=0.078).However,the specificity reached 77.50%,which was significantly higher than that of HPV test combined with TCT (P<0.001).The SOX1/PAX1 gene methylation level in the CIN2+ group was higher than those in the normal cervical tissue and the CIN1 group(P<0.001).The cut-off values of SOX1 and PAX1 gene methylation for CIN2+ detection were -11.81 and -11.98,respectively.Conclusion Adding the detection of SOX1/PAX1 gene methylation in secondary triage significantly improves the efficiency and accuracy of CIN2+ detection.

RESUMO

Introduction: Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED) is a genetic disorder that influences structures of ectodermal origin, such as teeth, hair, and sweat glands. Compared with autosomal recessive and dominant modes of inheritance, the X-linked HED (XLHED) characterized by Hypodontia/Oligodontia teeth, Absent/sparse hair, Anhidrosis/hypohidrosis, and characteristic facial features, is the most frequent and its primary cause is the mutation of ectodysplasin A (EDA) gene. This research aimed to expound the clinical and molecular features of a Chinese male with XLHED and to summarize and compare several previous findings. Methods: Genomic DNA was obtained from the peripheral blood of the proband and his family members, then Sanger sequencing was used to perform a mutational analysis of EDA. Real-time quantitative PCR and Western blotting were used to detect EDA expression. The transcriptional activity of NF-κB was detected using a luciferase assay. Results: The probandwith XLHED was identified a novel EDA mutation, c.1119G>C(p.M373I), that affected the molecular analysis of transmembrane protein exon8 mutations, inherited from the mother. He showed a severe multiple-tooth loss, with over 20 permanent teeth missing and sparse hair and eyebrows, dry, thin, and itching skin. Furthermore, his sweating function was abnormal to a certain extent. Discussion: The functional study showed that this novel mutant led to a significant decrease in the EDA expression level and transcriptional activity of NF-κB. Our findings extend the range of EDA mutations in XLHED patients, which provides the basis and idea for further exploring the pathogenesis of XLHED.

RESUMO

Doxorubicin (DOX) is an effective anticancer agent, but its clinical utility is constrained by dose-dependent cardiotoxicity, partly due to cardiomyocyte ferroptosis. However, the progress of developing cardioprotective medications to counteract ferroptosis has encountered obstacles. Protosappanin A (PrA), an anti-inflammatory compound derived from hematoxylin, shows potential against DOX-induced cardiomyopathy (DIC). Here, it is reported that PrA alleviates myocardial damage and dysfunction by reducing DOX-induced ferroptosis and maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis. Subsequently, the molecular target of PrA through proteome microarray, molecular docking, and dynamics simulation is identified. Mechanistically, PrA physically binds with ferroptosis-related proteins acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (ACSL4) and ferritin heavy chain 1 (FTH1), ultimately inhibiting ACSL4 phosphorylation and subsequent phospholipid peroxidation, while also preventing FTH1 autophagic degradation and subsequent release of ferrous ions (Fe2+) release. Given the critical role of ferroptosis in the pathogenesis of ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury, this further investigation posits that PrA can confer a protective effect against IR-induced cardiac damage by inhibiting ferroptosis. Overall, a novel pharmacological inhibitor is unveiled that targets ferroptosis and uncover a dual-regulated mechanism for cardiomyocyte ferroptosis in DIC, highlighting additional therapeutic options for chemodrug-induced cardiotoxicity and ferroptosis-triggered disorders.

RESUMO

This article summarizes and discusses the collaborative effects of acupuncture and medication in treatment, including four aspects, named "acupuncture synergizing the effects of medication", "medication advancing the effects of acupuncture", "coordination of acupuncture and medication", and "antagonism of acupuncture and medication". Regarding "acupuncture synergizing the effects of medication", the actions of acupuncture are predominant, which affects the absorption and metabolism of drugs in the body, increases drug concentration in blood, enhances the targeting effect of drugs, guides meridian tropism, alleviates the drug dose and adverse reactions, avoids the first pass effect and accelerates the drug bioavailability. As for "medication advancing the effects of acupuncture", the synergistic effect of acupuncture is obtained by medication, besides, the medication itself may supplement the drug property to the needles during acupuncture pretreatment so as to increase the therapeutic effect. In terms of "coordination of acupuncture and medication", and "antagonism of acupuncture and medication", there are the underlying co-effects of acupuncture and medication in the body, and the action targets may be same or different between them, thus, it needs to be further explored.

RESUMO

Human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) may have noncanonical functions in transcriptional regulation and metabolic reprogramming in cancer cells, but it is a challenging target. We thus developed small-molecule ligands targeting hTERT promoter G-quadruplex DNA structures (hTERT G4) to downregulate hTERT expression. Ligand 5 showed high affinity toward hTERT G4 (Kd = 1.1 µM) and potent activity against triple-negative breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231, IC50 = 1 µM). In cell-based assays, 5 not only exerts markedly inhibitory activity on classical telomere functions including decreased telomerase activity, shortened telomere length, and cellular senescence but also induces DNA damage, acute cellular senescence, and apoptosis. This study reveals that hTERT G4-targeting ligand may cause mitochondrial dysfunction, disrupt iron metabolism and activate ferroptosis in cancer cells. The in vivo antitumor efficacy of 5 was also evaluated in an MDA-MB-231 xenograft mouse model and approximately 78.7% tumor weight reduction was achieved. No observable toxicity against the major organs was observed.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to summarise the clinical features and management strategies concerning auditory canal duplication anomalies in children with congenital first branchial cleft anomalies (CFBCAs), and to provide guidance for precise treatment. METHODS: We retrospectively analysed 84 children with CFBCAs who had complete data, diagnosed between December 2018 and February 2024. RESULTS: All the lesions identified were located around the external auditory canal or near the mandibular angle, manifested as pinhead-sized perforations in 10 cases, painless masses in 18 cases, recurrent swelling and pain with purulent discharge in 52 cases, and otorrhea in 4 cases. Otoscopy examinations revealed external auditory canal swelling in seven children, fistulas within the auditory canal in four children, and a myringa web in three children. Fifty-six children had a preoperative history of infection. Using Work's classification system, Work I and II in 70 (87.5%) and 14 (12.5%) children, respectively. Intraoperatively, 80 (95.2%) children had auditory canal duplication anomalies at the base of the lesion, closely associated with the cartilage of the inferior wall of external auditory canal(EAC), We then classified auditory canal duplication anomalies into three types: Type A (duplication anomalies of epithelial tissue structure between the skin of the EAC and the cartilage of the inferior wall, n = 16 children), Type B (duplication anomalies of the epithelial and/or skin tissue structure, sharing a wall with the cartilage of the inferior wall, n = 40), and Type C (duplication anomalies of the skin and cartilage tissue structure, connected to the cartilage of the inferior wall of EAC, n = 24). Sixty-eight children had lesions superficial to the facial nerve, 12 had lesions deep to the facial nerve, and four had lesions between branches. There were two cases of transient postoperative facial paralysis, three cases of CFBCA recurrence, and two cases of transient auditory canal stenosis. CONCLUSION: Auditory canal duplication anomalies are an important feature of first branchial cleft anomalies in children. Precise staging and accurate identification of the base of the lesion facilitate complete removal, thereby increasing the cure rate.

RESUMO

Carotid atherosclerosis-related stenosis, marked by atherosclerotic plaque formation in the carotid artery, significantly increases ischemic stroke risk. Its prevalence varies across ethnic groups, reflecting racial disparities. Epidemiological studies have highlighted different susceptibilities to carotid stenosis among racial groups. Native Americans and Whites show greater vulnerability, indicating genetic and environmental influences. The impact of carotid stenosis is more severe in Hispanic and Black populations, with a higher incidence of related brain injuries, underscoring the need for targeted interventions. Comparative imaging studies between Chinese and White individuals reveal unique patterns of carotid stenosis, enhancing understanding of its pathophysiology and management across ethnicities. This review also categorizes risk factors, distinguishing those with racial disparity (such as genetic loci, sleep apnea, and emotional factors, socioeconomic status) from those without. In summary, racial disparities affect carotid stenosis, leading to varying susceptibilities and outcomes among ethnic groups. Recognizing these differences is essential for developing effective prevention, diagnosis, and management strategies. Addressing these disparities is critical to reducing ischemic stroke's burden across populations. Continued research and targeted interventions are crucial to improve outcomes for individuals at risk of carotid stenosis and its complications.

RESUMO

This study aims to investigate the role and mechanism of Gusong Qianggu Decoction(GSQG) in attenuating bone loss in ovariectomized mice by targeting the endoplasmic reticulum stress(ERS)-induced apoptosis of osteocytes. After the modeling of osteoporosis in mice with bilateral ovary removal(OVX), 60 mice were randomized by the random number method into six groups: sham, model, low-, medium-, and high-dose GSQG(GSQG-L, GSQG-M, and GSQG-H, respectively), and estradiol(E_2), with 10 mice in each group. The mice in each group were administrated with corresponding drugs by gavage one month after surgery and the administration lasted for 3 months. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was employed to determine the serum levels of osteocalcin(OCN), procollagen type Ⅰ N-terminal propeptide(PINP), carboxy-terminal cross-linked telopeptide of type Ⅰ collagen(CTX),and anti-tartarte acid phosphatase 5b(TRAcP-5b). Micro-CT was employed to observe the changes in bone microstructure of the distal femur. Hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining was employed to observe the morphology of the bone tissue. RT-qPCR was conducted to determine the m RNA levels of tibial stem osteogenesis-associated genes [type Ⅰ collagen(Col-Ⅰ), alkaline phosphatase(ALP), Runtrelated transcription factor-2(Runx2), bone sialoprotein(BSP), and OCN] and bone-breaking related genes [tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP), nuclear factor-activated T cell 1(NFATc1), and cathepsin K(CATK)]. TUNEL staining and immunohistochemistry were employed to detect the apoptosis of osteoblasts. Western blot was employed to measure the expression of ERS-related proteins glucose-regulated protein 78( Grp78), protein kinase RNA-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase( PERK), phosphorylated PERK(p-PERK),eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 alpha(eIF2α), phosphorylated e IF2α(p-eIF2α), inositol-requiring enzyme 1 alpha(IRE1α), phosphorylated IRE1α(p-IRE1α), and activating transcription factor 6(ATF6) in the proximal tibial bone tissue. The results showed that GSQG significantly recovered the levels of OCN, PINP, TRAc P-5b, and CTX in the serum of ovariectomized mice, and Micro-CT showed that GSQG improved the bone microstructure of distal femur in a dose-dependent manner. Compared with the model group, GSQG widened and increased the bone trabeculae, restored the reticular structure with neat arrangement and enlarged interstitial gaps, and reduced the number of TUNEL-positive cells(P<0. 05, P<0. 01). Furthermore, GSQG down-regulated the expression levels of cysteine aspartate protease-3( caspase-3) and factor Bcl-2-associated X protein( Bax)(P< 0. 05,P<0. 01) and up-regulated the expression level of Bcl-2(P<0. 05, P<0. 01). The GSQG groups showed up-regulated m RNA levels of Col-Ⅰ, ALP, Runx2, BSP, and OCN(P< 0. 01) and down-regulated m RNA levels of TRAP, NFATc1, and CATK(P< 0. 05,P<0. 01). In addition, GSQG, especially GSQG-H, down-regulated the protein levels of Grp78, p-PERK, p-eIF2, p-IRE1α, and ATF6(P< 0. 05, P< 0. 01). In conclusion, GSQG can inhibit the apoptosis of osteocytes by inhibiting the Grp78/PERK/e IF2α/IRE1α/ATF6 signaling pathway in the proximal tibia tissue, thus reducing bone loss in ovariectomized mice.

RESUMO

The development of high-filled 3D printing resin necessitates a bonding protocol for dental indirect restorations to achieve optimal bond strength after cementation. This study evaluates shear bond strengths of high-filler 3D printed materials for permanent restorations with various surface treatments. Rodin Sculpture 1.0 (50% lithium disilicate fillers) and 2.0 Ceramic Nanohybrid (>60% zirconia and lithium disilicate fillers) were tested, with Aelite All-Purpose Body composite resin as control. Samples were prepared, post-cured, and sandblasted with alumina (25 µm). Surface roughness was analyzed using an optical profilometer. Two bonding protocols were compared. First, groups were treated with lithium disilicate silane (Porcelain Primer) or zirconia primer (Z-Prime Plus) or left untreated without a bonding agent. Beam-shaped resin cement (DuoLink Universal) specimens were bonded and stored in a 37 °C water bath. Second, additional sets of materials were coated with a bonding agent (All-Bond Universal), either followed by silane application or left untreated. These sets were then similarly stored alongside resin cement specimens. Shear bond tests were performed after 24 h. SEM images were taken after debonding. One-Way ANOVA and post hoc Duncan were performed for the statistical analysis. Rodin 1.0 exhibited increased adhesive failure with silane or zirconia primer coating, but significantly improved bond strengths with bonding agent application. Rodin 2.0 showed consistent bond strengths regardless of bonding agent application, but cohesive failure rates increased with bonding agent and filler coating. In all groups, except for Rodin 1.0 without bonding agent, silane coating increased cohesive failure rate. In conclusion, optimal shear bond strength for high-filler 3D printing materials can be achieved with silane coating and bonding agent application.

RESUMO

Three long alkyl chain-bearing dibenzotriazole ionic liquids (BTA-R-BTA, R = 8, 12, and 16) were synthesized with high yield (>98%) through a simple and eco-friendly process. Their anticorrosion performance for Q235 carbon steel in 6 M hydrochloride acid was comprehensively evaluated by weight loss tests, electrochemical methods (potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy), and surface analysis techniques. As the length of the alkyl chain increased, the maximum corrosion inhibition efficiency enhanced from 55.02% (for BTA-8-BTA at 1.2 mM) to 97.10% (for BTA-12-BTA at 0.3 mM) and 98.84% (for BTA-16-BTA at 0.3 mM). Density functional theory calculation indicated that the alkyl chain length had little influence on the inhibitors' electronic structures, while molecular dynamics simulations revealed that the thickness, surface coverage, and compactness of adsorption films formed at the metal-electrolyte interface increased with the elongated alkyl chain. Corrosion inhibition efficiency is strongly correlated with the structures of the adsorption film.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Nasal and paranasal sinus abnormalities may be related to nasolacrimal duct obstructive disease but are strongly debated. Data of acute disease stage are lacking. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine if there are correlations between radiologic signs of sinus inflammation and acute dacryocystitis (AD). METHODS: This cross-sectional controlled study was conducted at Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China from February 2021 to November 2023. Forty-four consecutive patients with AD and 50 consecutive patients with orbital tumors (the control group), who completed preoperative computed tomography scans, were enrolled to evaluate the extent of their inflammatory sinonasal disease by the modified Lund-Mackay score system. RESULTS: The inflammation signs of the paranasal sinuses (total mean sinus scores, 95% CI [0.00, 2.00]; P < 0.001), namely the anterior ethmoid sinus(95% CI [0.00, 1.00]; P < 0.001), the posterior ethmoid sinus(95% CI [0.00, 0.00]; P = 0.003), the frontal sinus (95% CI [0.00, 0.00]; P = 0.02), and the ostiomeatal complex (P < 0.001) were more extensive in patients with AD when compared with the controls. The disease course was negatively correlated with the anterior ethmoid (P = 0.03) and frontal scores (P = 0.01). The symptom of eyelid swelling was positively correlated with the anterior ethmoid (P = 0.03), ostiomeatal complex (P = 0.004), and total sinus scores (P = 0.005). CONCLUSION: Inflammatory sinus disease was found to be more frequent in patients with AD, which was gradually alleviated with the prolongation of the disease course. The mutual spread of inflammation particularly in the acute course may play an important role in lacrimal duct obstructive disease.

RESUMO

Bacterial resilience within biofilms, rendering them up to 1000 times more resistant to antibiotic drugs, poses a formidable challenge. This study introduces a targeted biofilm eradication strategy, termed "target-penetration-killing-eradication", implemented through magnetic micro-robotic technology. Specifically, we present the development of a magnetic-guided nano-antibacterial platform designed for alternating magnetic field (AMF) controlled vancomycin release in the eradication of Staphylococcus aureus biofilms. To address the issue of premature vancomycin release in physiological conditions, we employed a temperature-sensitive linking agent, 4,4'-azobis(4-cyano valeric acid), facilitating the conjugation of vancomycin onto Fe3O4/CS nanocomposites, resulting in the novel construct Fe3O4@CS-ACVA-VH. The release mechanism adheres to first-order kinetics and Fickian diffusion, with each 10-min AMF treatment releasing approximately 8.4 ± 1.1% of vancomycin. The potency of vancomycin in the release solution was similar to that of the original drug (MIC: 7.4 ± 3.5 vs. 5.6 µg/mL). Fe3O4@CS-ACVA-VH exhibited sustained antibacterial efficacy, inhibiting bacterial growth for four consecutive days and preventing the formation of bacterial biofilms on its surface. Contact-inhibition bacterial activity of Fe3O4@CS-ACVA-VH against S. aureus was 0.046875 mg/mL. Conceptually validating our approach, we emphasize Fe3O4@CS-ACVA-VH's exceptional ability to penetrate S. aureus biofilms under static magnetic field attraction. Furthermore, the nano-platform offers the unique advantage of on-demand vancomycin release through alternating magnetic field stimulation, effectively clearing a larger biofilm area. This multifunctional nano-platform demonstrates magnetic-guided biofilm penetration followed by controlled vancomycin release, presenting a promising strategy for enhanced biofilm eradication.

RESUMO

Polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT) is a functional imaging tool for measuring tissue birefringence characteristics. It has been proposed as a potentially non-invasive technique for evaluating skin burns. However, the PS-OCT modality usually suffers from high system complexity and relatively low tissue-specific contrast, which makes assessing the extent of burns in skin tissue difficult. In this study, we employ an all-fiber-based PS-OCT system with single-state input, which is simple and efficient for skin burn assessment. Multiple parameters, such as phase retardation (PR), degree of polarization uniformity (DOPU), and optical axis orientation, are obtained to extract birefringent features, which are sensitive to subtle changes in structural arrangement and tissue composition. Experiments on ex vivo porcine skins burned at different temperatures were conducted for skin burn investigation. The burned depths estimated by PR and DOPU increase linearly with the burn temperature to a certain extent, which is helpful in classifying skin burn degrees. We also propose an algorithm of image fusion based on principal component analysis (PCA) to enhance tissue contrast for the multi-parameter data of PS-OCT imaging. The results show that the enhanced images generated by the PCA-based image fusion method have higher tissue contrast, compared to the en-face polarization images by traditional mean value projection. The proposed approaches in this study make it possible to assess skin burn severity and distinguish between burned and normal tissues.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Whole-body vibration (WBV) is a commonly used physical exercise for disease prevention and rehabilitation. Recent studies indicated the beneficial mechanism of WBV may be associated with its anti-inflammatory potential, however, its regulatory roles on different inflammatory mediators remained controversial. The aim of this study was to perform a meta-analysis to re-confirm the effects of WBV exercise on various inflammatory factors. METHODS: The PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library databases were searched up to September 2023 to collect all articles comparing WBV with control (or post-pre trials). The effect size was expressed as the standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS: A total of 31 eligible studies were included, including 14 pre-clinical and 17 clinical studies. The meta-analysis of pre-clinical studies showed that compared with the control group, WBV exercise could significantly reduce the level of IL-6 (SMD: -1.03, 95% CI: -1.93, -0.13), TNF-α (SMD: -1.36, 95% CI: -2.54, -0.17) (for disease subgroup), IL-1ß (SMD: -2.20, 95% CI: -3.24, -1.15), IFN-γ (SMD: -1.91, 95% CI: -2.71, -1.12), IL-4 (SMD: -0.71, 95% CI: -1.39, -0.03) and IL-17 (SMD: -1.32, 95% CI: -2.05, -0.59) overall. Pooling of clinical studies revealed WBV exercise significantly reduced the level of TNF-α (WBV vs control: SMD: -1.11, 95% CI: -2.16, -0.06; post vs pre: SMD: -1.29, 95% CI: -1.91, -0.67), CRP (SMD: -3.59, 95% CI: -6.36, -0.82, P = 0.011) and enhanced the level of IL-10 (WBV vs control: SMD: 2.90, 95% CI: 1.10, 4.71; post vs pre: SMD: 1.75, 95% CI: 0.64, 2.87) and IL-6 (SMD: 0.91, 95% CI: 0.31, 1.52) (healthy subgroup). CONCLUSION: WBV may be an effective prevention and rehabilitation tool for inflammatory diseases.

RESUMO

To explore the characteristics of hematologic indicators and related risk factors of lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (LDVT) in patients with cerebral infarction. METHODS: This study retrospectively analyzed data from 174 patients with cerebral infarction admitted to The Rehabilitation Department of Shanghai Fifth Rehabilitation Hospital and Shanghai First People's Hospital from June 2022 to June 2023. Based on the results of lower limb venous color Doppler ultrasound examinations, patients were divided into two groups: the LDVT group (35 cases) and the non-LDVT group (139 cases). We compared the clinical data and hematologic indicators (D-dimer value, fibrinogen, white blood cells, platelets, uric acid, creatinine, etc.) of the two groups to identify the risk factors of cerebral infarction complicated with LDVT. RESULTS: Statistical analysis revealed that the D-dimer values of the LDVT group were significantly (P<0.05) higher than those of the non-LDVT group. The uric acid value of the LDVT group was significantly lower than that of the non-LDVT group, with statistical significance (P<0.05). The Brunnstrom staging in the LDVT group was significantly different from that in the non-LDVT group (P<0.05). Meanwhile, binary logistic regression analysis showed that LDVT complicated with cerebral infarction was associated with D-dimer level [OR=1.302, 95% CI (1.077, 1.575)], uric acid level [OR=0.995, 95% CI (0.990, 1.000)], and Brunnstrom staging [OR=3.005, 95% CI (1.312, 6.880)]. CONCLUSION: D-dimer value, uric acid value, and Brunnstrom stage I to II are closely related to the occurrence of LDVT in patients with cerebral infarction. High D-dimer value, low uric acid value, and Brunnstrom stage I to II are independent risk factors for LDVT in cerebral infarction. Early assessment of D-dimer value, uric acid value, and Brunnstrom stage of cerebral infarction should be considered in clinical practice.

RESUMO

The construction and operation of the construction and demolition waste (C&DW) landfills often encounter significant opposition from nearby residents, which is called the "not in my backyard" (NIMBY) effect. However, little is known about the formation mechanism of the NIMBY effect in C&DW landfilling, so this research was conducted for this purpose. First, the influencing factors leading to the NIMBY effect were determined based on a literature review and questionnaire survey. Then, the interrelationship and influencing path of critical factors were revealed using expert interviews and Interpretative Structural Modelling. The results shown that 12 factors from four levels (including residents, society, government, and enterprises) caused the NIMBY effect in C&DW landfilling. These factors formed a complex network comprising 18 influencing paths. Notably, policy and responding measures as pivotal bottom-level factors that trigger the NIMBY effect by indirectly impacting residents' rights awareness and shaping public perception towards C&DW landfill operation enterprises through directly affecting personal interest, cognitive bias, distrust, disposal technology, management level, opinion leader, and other intermediate factors, ultimately triggering the NIMBY effect. Moreover, strategies for mitigating or resolving the NIMBY effect were proposed, such as protecting personal reasonable interests, understanding the potential risks of C&DW landfills rationally, reporting the C&DW landfills from an objective perspective, improving policies and promoting public participation, and enhancing supervision of the C&DW landfills. The study added new knowledge to the current public's NIMBY effect in C&DW landfilling. Meanwhile, it also provided a reference for formulating C&DW landfilling policies and selecting landfill sites.

RESUMO

Lubricating hydrogel coatings on inert rubber and plastic surfaces significantly reduce friction and wear, thus enhancing material durability and lifespan. However, achieving optimal hydration lubrication typically requires a porous polymer network, which unfortunately reduces their mechanical strength and limits their applicability where robust durability and wear-resistance are essential. In the research, a hydrogel coating with remarkable wear resistance and surface stability is developed by forming a semi-interpenetrating polymer network with polymer substrate at the interface. By employing a good solvent swelling method, monomers, and photoinitiators are embedded within the substrates' subsurface, followed by in situ polymerization under ultraviolet light, creating a robust semi-interpenetrating and entangled network structure. This approach, offering a thicker energy-dissipating layer, outperforms traditional surface modifications in wear resistance while preserving anti-fatigue, hydrophilicity, oleophobicity, and other properties. Adaptable to various rubber and plastic substrates by using suitable solvents, this method provides an efficient solution for creating durable, lubricating surfaces, broadening the potential applications in multiple industries.
