OBJECTIVE: Normal quality of life is an ultimate target in the therapeutic approach to Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), encompassing Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) in the context of which regular physical activity (PA) is often a chimeric parameter that is not standardised in terms of quality/quantity. The study aimed to profile a sample of IBD patients about the relationship between PA-partner status and social network support. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A post-hoc analysis of the "BE-FIT-IBD" study was set up by stratifying the data of PA with that of partner status and the support that the patient's social network (i.e., relatives, friends) provided in inciting the patient to practice regular PA. RESULTS: In the 219 patients included, there was a greater tendency for patients with stable partners to view the risk of reactivation/worsening of IBD as a barrier to conducting regular PA (p < 0.0001). Single patients considered PA more as a protective factor (p=0.045). Patients without a PA-supporting social network retained IBD-related treatment as a PA barrier (p=0.016) and PA as a risk for IBD complications (p=0.01), with less confidence that PA could improve the course of IBD (p < 0.001). Rectal syndrome was an IBD-related barrier more represented in patients with PA-deterring social network (p < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: These factors are potential targets for recovering the IBD patient's adherence to regular PA.

Breast cancer has a high incidence rate and a negative impact on women's lives. The practice of physical activity (PA) has shown strong evidence in controlling the side effects associated with the disease and its treatment. However, having an active lifestyle is influenced by socio-health inequities. The objective was to analyze the categories related to the meanings and perceived experiences with PA in breast cancer survivors (BCS). Protocol https://osf.io/7fwbs/. Articles describing the meanings of PA in BCS published after 2010 were included. Fourteen articles were analyzed using line-by-line coding. The emerging categories were: 1)PA as a strategy to re-signify and empower the body. 2)Cancer means a change in PA trajectories. 3)PA is a tool for a healthy and functional body in everyday life.

INTRODUCTION: Physical activity acts as an adjuvant in the treatment of numerous diseases and in the promotion of healthy aging. Increasing longevity entails an increase in the demand for professionals who prescribe physical activity, specifically physiotherapists and physical-activity educators. OBJECTIVES: The main objective of this study was to explore the perceptions of a group of third- and fourth-year Physiotherapy students (n=9) and Sport Sciences students (n=5), and experts who work with older adults (n=3) about their knowledge of the older adult population and healthy aging. The secondary objectives were to: (a) explore what knowledge future professionals need about physical activity programming and about physical activity programs aimed at maintaining and improving health among older adults; (b) explore what would be the best methodology to acquire such knowledge; and (c) explore whether a relationship is perceived between knowledge about the older adult population and motivation to work with this population group. METHODS: Two discussion groups with students and three interviews with experts were conducted. Discussion groups and interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed through a reflexive thematic analysis, following the steps described by Braun and Clarke (2021). RESULTS: Three themes were identified from the discussion groups: (1) conception and ideas about older adults, (2) skills and knowledge perceived as important, and (3) proposals for motivational intervention addressed to the older population. Four themes were identified from the interviews with experts: (1) characteristics of the future professional, (2) physical activity programs for older people: the recipe for success, (3) the role of enjoyment as key to success, and (4) barriers/obstacles along the path. CONCLUSION: Students of both degrees and experts believe that more practical training opportunities are needed, to enable students to interact with the older population and get to know their needs, motivations, and barriers, to increase physical activity levels in this population group.

INTRODUCTION: Physical activity (PA) is associated with positive health outcomes such as prevention of chronic diseases, psychological well-being and improved work performance. Medical residents are subjected to sleep deprivation, extended work schedule and high burnout prevalence. These conditions may lead to the neglect of personal health and the restriction of time dedicated to PA. The objective of the present study was to analyze the time dedicated to PA of medical residents, comparing women vs men residents and surgical vs clinical residents. METHODS: It is a cross-sectional study performed in a Spanish third-level university hospital. All medical residents from our institution were invited to voluntarily participate in the study answering a web-based questionnaire on June 2022. Data regarding demographics, residency and PA practice was recorded. RESULTS: The response rate was 20.73% (114/550). The 32.5% of the residents considered themselves to be physically inactive and mean time dedicated to PA in a regular week was 3.62 ±â€¯2.22 h. Men residents dedicated more time to PA than women residents (4.23 ±â€¯2.42 h vs 3.14 ±â€¯1.95 h, p = 0.012) and surgical residents dedicated more time than clinical residents (4.33 ±â€¯2.36 h vs 3.23 ±â€¯2.05 h, p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: One third of the medical residents consider themself physically inactive. Women and clinical residents practice PA less time than men and surgical residents. Efforts should be made to encourage PA among residents, especially in women and non-surgeons.

En la actualidad, existe una tendencia progresiva al envejecimiento de la población. El propósito de esta investigación consistió exponer una estrategia educativa para los estudiantes del 5.º nivel de Gerontología que contribuya a la promoción de la actividad física en el adulto mayor. La investigación se enmarcó en una metodología mixta y un diseño descriptivo de corte transversal. Se emplearon métodos científicos que en el orden teórico se encuentran análisis-síntesis, inductivo-deductivo y el sistémico estructural, y como métodos empíricos la revisión documental, la observación, la encuesta y entrevistas, las cuales fueron aplicadas a una muestra de 38 sujetos y revelan la importancia de la actividad física como estrategia que permite alcanzar un envejecimiento activo y con calidad de vida en la tercera edad. Según estos resultados, la aplicación de una estrategia educativa estructurada en tres etapas y dos fases contribuye a la autogestión del aprendizaje de los estudiantes, donde el contexto profesional se convierte en un auténtico espacio de formación.


Atualmente, há uma tendência progressiva de envelhecimento da população. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi apresentar uma estratégia educacional para estudantes do 5º nível de Gerontologia que contribua para a promoção da atividade física em idosos. A pesquisa foi enquadrada em uma metodologia mista e um desenho descritivo transversal. Foram utilizados os métodos científicos teórico, indutivo-dedutivo e sistêmico-estrutural, e os métodos empíricos foram revisão documental, observação, inquérito e entrevistas, que foram aplicados a uma amostra de 38 sujeitos e revelam a importância da atividade física como estratégia para alcançar o envelhecimento ativo e a qualidade de vida dos idosos. De acordo com esses resultados, a aplicação de uma estratégia educacional estruturada em três etapas e duas fases contribui para o autogerenciamento da aprendizagem dos alunos, em que o contexto profissional se torna um autêntico espaço de treinamento.


Currently, there is a progressive trend towards population aging. The purpose of this research was to present an educational strategy for students of the 5th level of Gerontology that contributes to the promotion of physical activity in older adults. The research was framed in a mixed methodology and a cross-sectional descriptive design. Scientific methods were used that in the theoretical order include analysis-synthesis, inductive-deductive and structural systemic and as empirical methods documentary review, observation, survey and interviews, applied to a sample of 38 subjects. The study revealed the importance of physical activity as a strategy that allows achieving active aging with quality of life. According to these results, the application of an educational strategy, structured in three stages and two phases, contributes to the self-management of student learning, where the professional context becomes an authentic training space.

Existe evidencia que demuestra los beneficios de la práctica de actividad física (AF)/ejercicio para la madre después del parto. Sin embargo, este periodo posparto (PP) es, a menudo, una oportunidad perdida en el curso de la vida de las mujeres, para comenzar o reanudar la práctica de ejercicio físico, y obtener los grandes beneficios que esto les puede reportar. El objetivo de este artículo fue analizar los beneficios del ejercicio durante el PP; la prescripción de AF; las recomendaciones sobre el momento de reanudar su práctica; las barreras y facilitadores; el ejercicio físico realizado durante la lactancia materna; así como su papel en las enfermedades y molestias más frecuentes en este periodo, teniendo siempre presente que la labor del médico de atención primaria resulta fundamental para motivar y alentar a las mujeres para que lo practiquen después del parto. There is evidence that demonstrates the benefits of practicing physical activity/exercise for the mother after childbirth. However, this postpartum period (PP) is often a missed opportunity in a lifetime for women to start or resume physical exercise and get the great benefits that it can bring them. The objective of this article was to analyze the benefits of physical exercise during PP; the prescription of physical exercise; recommendations on when to resume your practice; barriers and facilitators; physical exercise during breastfeeding; as well as its role in the most frequent illnesses and discomforts in this period, always keeping in mind that the work of the primary care doctor is essential to motivate and encourage women to perform physical exercise in the PP. Introduction: risk factors associated with obesity such as poor dietary quality, low physical activity (PA), screen time (ST), and poor sleep duration (SD) were affected during confinement resulting from the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Objective: the aim of our study was to evaluate the association between PA, ST and SD with the consumption of non-recommended food groups (N-RFG) in children during the COVID-19 pandemic, using data from ENSARS-CoV-2 Girls and Boys. Methods: data were gathered through a self-administered electronic survey carried out in four regions of Mexico during September and October 2020. Dietary patterns were established using k-means cluster analysis. Linear regression models were used to study the effect of food consumption patterns and PA on hours of ST per week. Results: in all, 2,405 children aged 2 to 11 were studied. Three food group consumption patterns were identified. Group 1 or “high consumption of added sugars group” and Group 2 or “high consumption of N-RFG group” children reported more hours of ST than those in Group 3 or “low consumption of N-RFG group” (p < 0.001 and p < 0.001, respectively). Group 2 reported more hours per week of ST but also more days of PA vs Group 3. Conclusion: confronted by the pandemic, it is essential to redouble efforts to reverse the harmful effects of lifestyles during the COVID-19 pandemic to improve the health of Mexican children in the years to come.(AU)


Introducción: los factores de riesgo asociados a la obesidad, como la pobre calidad de la dieta, la baja actividad física (AF), el tiempo frente a pantallas (TP) y la corta duración del sueño (DS), se vieron afectados durante el confinamiento resultado de la pandemia por SARS-CoV-2. Objetivo: el objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la asociación entre AF, TP y DS y el consumo de grupos de alimentos no recomendados (GANR) en niños durante la pandemia por COVID-19, utilizando datos de la ENSARS-CoV-2 Niñas y Niños.Métodos: la información fue recolectada por medio de una encuesta electrónica autoadministrada durante septiembre y octubre de 2020 en las 4 regiones de México. Para establecer patrones de consumo de alimentos se utilizó un análisis de conglomerados por el método de las medias k. Se utilizaron modelos de regresión lineal para estudiar los efectos de los patrones de consumo de alimentos sobre AF y TP. Resultados: la muestra fue de 2,405 niños de 2 a 11 años de edad. Se identifi caron 3 grupos de patrones de consumo de alimentos. El grupo 1 o de “alto consumo de azúcares añadidos” y el grupo 2 o de “alto consumo de GANR” reportaron un mayor número de horas a la semana frente a una pantalla en comparación con el grupo 3 o de “bajo consumo de GANR” (p < 0,001 y p < 0,001, respectivamente). El grupo 2 reportó menos horas a la semana de TP pero también más días de AF con respecto al grupo 3.Conclusión: se ha vuelto esencial duplicar los esfuerzos para revertir los efectos nocivos en los estilos de vida que se establecieron durante la pandemia para mejorar la salud de los niños mexicanos en los años subsecuentes.(AU)

Background: the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted people’s behaviors and mental health around the world. Aim: to verify the mediating role of physical activity (PA) level in the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and anxiety and depression symptoms in adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: this is a cross-sectional study with Brazilian adults aged ≥ 18 years (N = 2000, 59.6 % women) selected by the nonprobabilistic snowball method through digital means of communication (WhatsApp®, Telegram®, Facebook®, Twitter®, e-mails). Linear regression models were fitted for PA level mediation analyses in the relationship between BMI and anxiety/depression symptoms. Results: significant differences were found between the active/not overweight group and the other three groups (active/overweight, insufficiently active/not overweight and insufficiently active/overweight [p < 0.001]) for anxiety/depression after adjusting for age, sex, chronic diseases, alcohol consumption, and smoking. When testing the mediating role of daily PA in the association between BMI and anxiety/depression symptoms, BMI was negatively associated with daily PA in the first regression equation (p < 0.001); in the second, BMI was positively related to anxiety/depression symptoms (p < 0.001); and in the third, daily PA showed an inverse relationship with anxiety/depression symptoms (p < 0.001), and although BMI remained negatively associated with anxiety/depression symptoms, these associations maintained their statistical significance. Conclusions: the results suggest that the effect of BMI on anxiety and depression was partially mediated by daily PA.(AU)


Introducción: la pandemia de covid-19 ha afectado el comportamiento y la salud mental de las personas en todo el mundo. Objetivo: verificar la mediación del nivel de actividad física (af) en la relación entre el índice de masa corporal (imc) y los síntomas de ansiedad y depresión en adultos durante la pandemia covid-19. Métodos: estudio transversal, con adultos brasileños con edad ≥ 18 años (n = 2.000, 59,6 % mujeres), seleccionados por el método no probabilístico de bola de nieve, a través de medios de comunicación digitales (whatsapp®, telegram®, facebook®, twitter®, correos electrónicos).se ajustaron modelos de regresión lineal para los análisis de la mediación del nivel de actividad física en la relación entre el imc y los síntomas de ansiedad/depresión. Resultados: se encontraron diferencias significativas entre el grupo activo/sin exceso de peso y los otros tres grupos (activo/con exceso de peso, insuficientemente activo/sin exceso de peso e insuficientemente activo/con exceso de peso [p < 0,001]) para ansiedad/depresión después de ajustar por edad, sexo, enfermedades, consumo de alcohol y tabaquismo. al probar el papel mediador de la af diaria en la asociación entre el imc y los síntomas de ansiedad/depresión, en la primera ecuación de regresión, el imc se asoció negativamente con la af diaria (p < 0,001); en la segunda, el imc se relacionó positivamente con los síntomas de ansiedad/depresión (p < 0,001); y en la tercera, la af diaria mostró una relación inversa con los síntomas de ansiedad/depresión (p < 0,001), y aunque el imc mantuvo una asociación negativa con dichos síntomas, estas asociaciones conservaron su significación estadística. Conclusiones: los resultados sugieren que el efecto del imc sobre la ansiedad y la depresión estuvo parcialmente mediado por la actividad física diaria.

Background and objectives: a deterioration of health habits has been found in various studies caused by stressful situations such as mandatory and maintained confinement over time. This study aims to analyze the health habits of the Spanish adult population during confinement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the possible impact on their body weight. Method: two thousand eight hundred and thirty-four volunteer subjects participated in the study (69.3 % women). They completed an on-line questionnaire that evaluated their health habits, as well as various sociodemographic variables. Results: the results show a statistically significant link between the subjects’ body mass index (BMI) and the change in their weight during lockdown (2: 79.303; p: < 0.001). Besides, a statisti-cally significant relationship between the different health habits under analysis was also found, being moderate with respect to the link between eating habits and physical activity (Cramer’s V: .226). A statistically significant relationship was also found between the participants’ weight and the different health habits during lockdown. The effect size of the associations was moderate in relation to the participants’ eating habits (Cramer’s V: .409) and physical activity (Cramer’s V: .292). Conclusions: it is suggested the development of prevention programs for long lockdown periods associated with high levels of stress so as to promote a healthy diet, as well as exercise using new technologies and a proper rest, especially in overweight or obese subjects.(AU)


Antecedentes y objetivos: varios estudios han constatado cómo los hábitos relacionados con la salud pueden verse afectados ante situaciones estresantes, como un confi namiento forzoso y mantenido en el tiempo. El presente estudio tiene como objetivo examinar el impacto que el confinamiento debido a la pandemia por COVID-19 tuvo sobre los hábitos de salud de la población española adulta, así como sobre su peso corporal. Método: en el estudio participaron 2.834 voluntarios (69,3 % mujeres), los cuales cumplimentaron un cuestionario on-line que evaluó sus hábitos de salud, así como diversas variables sociodemográficas. Resultados: los resultados muestran una relación estadísticamente significativa entre el índice de masa corporal (IMC) de los sujetos y el cambio en su peso corporal durante el confinamiento (χ2 : 79,303; p: < 0,001). Una alta proporción de sujetos con sobrepeso (47 %) y obesidad (50,6 %) informaron de un aumento en su peso que podría deberse a un incremento en la ingesta de ali-mentos como resultado de la ansiedad experimentada, cambios en los horarios de las comidas, una disminución del tiempo dedicado al ejercicio físico y un empeoramiento de la cantidad y la calidad del sueño. Asimismo, se encontró una relación estadísticamente significativa entre los diferentes hábitos de salud objeto de estudio, siendo esta moderada entre los hábitos alimentarios y la actividad física (V de Cramer: 0,226). También se encontró una relación estadísticamente significativa entre el peso de los participantes y sus diferentes hábitos de salud durante el confinamiento, siendo esta moderada en relación con los hábitos de alimentación de los participantes (V de Cramer: 0,409) y su actividad física (V de Cramer: 0,292). Conclusiones: se sugiere elaborar planes de prevención para confinamientos prolongados asociados a altos niveles de estrés, dirigidos especialmente a personas con sobrepeso y obesidad, los cuales promuevan una alimentación saludable junto...(AU)

Introducción: En el contexto actual epidemiológico y nutricional urge el conocimiento acerca de los hábitos alimentarios, estilos de vida y condición nutricional de jóvenes universitarios.Objetivo: Identificar composición corporal, hábitos alimentarios y actividad física en universitarios.Materiales y Métodos: Estudio observacional - transversal (n=118). Las variables fueron: Edad, Sexo, Peso, Talla, IMC, Masa grasa corporal, Masa muscular esquelética, Grasa visceral, Circunferencia de cintura, hábitos alimentarios y de actividad física. Se usó balanza digital OMRON de impedancia bioeléctrica. El consumo de alimentos fuente de grasa, fruta, vegetales y fibra se obtuvo con el Cuestionario de tamizaje de Block. Se usó el International Physical Activity Questionnaire IPAQ corta, que evalúa la actividad física.Resultados: La masa muscular esquelética es mayor en varones (38%) que en mujeres (25%). Caso contrario se observó en el contenido de grasa corporal, en mujeres 37% y 24% en varones. Se encontró diferencia en el porcentaje de grasa corporal, mujeres (37%) y varones (24%). Todas estas diferencias son estadísticamente significativas (p-valor < 0.05). En hábitos alimentarios se evidenció que el 19% presentó dieta alta y muy alta en grasa y en cuanto al consumo de frutas, vegetales y fibra, se evidenció que menos del 1% presentó consumo normal. Respecto a actividad física, el 46% indicó realizar actividad física alta, 52% moderada y el 2.5% actividad baja. No se encontró diferencias estadísticamente significativas en cuanto a las variables de estudio según rangos de edad (< 19 años vs >=19 años).Conclusiones: La composición corporal permitió cuantificar las reservas corporales del organismo de los estudiantes, el porcentaje de estos componentes corporales fue variable y depende del sexo. Un bajo porcentaje de estudiantes presentaron adecuados consumos de frutas, vegetales y fibra, los hombres tienen un mayor nivel de actividad física.(AU)


Introduction: In the current epidemiological and nutri-tional context, knowledge about the eating habits, lifestyles,and nutritional conditions of young university students is ur-gently needed.Objective: To identify body composition, eating habits,and physical activity in university students. Materials and Methods: Observational-cross-sectionalstudy. The population consisted of university students between16 and 25 years of age (n = 118). The variables studied were:age, sex, weight, height, BMI, body fat mass, skeletal musclemass, visceral fat, waist circumference, dietary habits, andphysical activity. Body composition was measured by anthro-pometry and bioelectrical impedance. Food consumption wasobtained with the Block Screening Questionnaire. The shortInternational Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was usedto assess physical activity. Chi-Square and T-Student tests wereused as hypothesis contrasts. To determine associations be-tween variables, a p-value <0.05 was considered statisticallysignificant.Results: Skeletal muscle mass was higher in males (38%)than in females (25%), while body fat was higher in females(37%) than in males (24%). These differences were statisti-cally significant. Regarding dietary habits, 19% had a diet highand very high in fat, and less than 1% had normal consump-tion of fruits, vegetables, and fiber. Regarding physical activity,46% indicated high physical activity, 52% moderate, and2.5% low activity. It was observed that men had more highphysical activity than women; however, women had moremoderate and low physical activity than men (p = 0.0299). Nostatistically significant differences were found for the studyvariables according to age ranges.Conclusions: Body composition was variable and sex-de-pendent. A minimum percentage of university students hadadequate intakes of fruits, vegetables, and fiber. Men had ahigher level of physical activity than women.(AU)

RESUMO

Introduction: We developed the intervention Programa Vida Ativa Melhorando a Saúde (VAMOS 3.0). This behavior change program aims to motivate people towards an active and healthy lifestyle. Objective: describe the development process of VAMOS 3.0 in print and online formats. Methods: A methodological study of content analysis, structure, implementation, and evaluation were carried out to develop a new version of VAMOS 3.0. Results: The new version had changes in content (short, direct, and affirmative sentences, images, color palette), structure (increased number of sections, time of application), and implementation (duration, form of participation, monitoring). In addition to the printed format, an online program was created containing the same characteristics to expand the reach. Final considerations: VAMOS 3.0 is suitable for public health in Brazil and has promising strategies for application in basic health units, as well as in other types of institutions such as schools, government offices, gyms, public or private companies.


Introducción: Desarrollamos la intervención Programa Vida Ativa Melhorando a Saúde (VAMOS 3.0). Este programa de cambio de comportamiento tiene como objetivo motivar a las personas hacia un estilo de vida activo y saludable. Objetivo: describir el proceso de desarrollo de VAMOS 3.0 en formato impreso y en línea. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio metodológico de análisis de contenido, estructura, implementación y evaluación para desarrollar una nueva versión de VAMOS 3.0. Resultados: La nueva versión tuvo cambios en contenido (oraciones cortas, directas y afirmativas, imágenes, paleta de colores), estructura (mayor número de secciones, tiempo de aplicación) e implementación (duración, forma de participación, seguimiento). Además del formato impreso, se creó un programa online con las mismas características para ampliar el alcance. Consideraciones finales: VAMOS 3.0 es adecuado para la salud pública en Brasil y tiene estrategias prometedoras para su aplicación en unidades básicas de salud, así como en otro tipo de instituciones como escuelas, oficinas gubernamentales, gimnasios, empresaspúblicas o privadas.


Introdução: Desenvolvemos a intervenção Programa Vida Ativa Melhorando a Saúde (VAMOS 3.0). Este programa de mudança de comportamento visa motivar as pessoas para um estilo de vida ativo e saudável. Objetivo: Descrever o processo de desenvolvimento do VAMOS 3.0 nos formatos impresso e online. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo metodológico de análise de conteúdo, estrutura, implementação e avaliação para desenvolver uma nova versão do VAMOS 3.0. Resultados: A nova alteração teve no conteúdo (frases curtas, diretas e afirmativas, imagens, paleta de cores), estrutura (aumento do número de versões, tempo de aplicação) e implementação (duração, forma de participação, acompanhamento). Além do formato impresso, foi criado um programa online contendo as mesmas características para ampliar o alcance. Considerações finais: O VAMOS 3.0 é adequado para a saúde pública no Brasil e possui estratégias promissoras para aplicação em unidades básicas de saúde, bem como em outros tipos de instituições como escolas, repartições públicas, academias, empresas públicas ou privadas.

Introducción. Establecer un estilo de vida activo y saludable es uno de los objetivos más importantes y desafiantes de la rehabilitación cardíaca. Comprender el comportamiento de los patrones de actividad física (AF) en adultos que han sufrido un evento coronario y que han participado en un programa de Rehabilitación Cardíaca (RC) es necesario para evaluar su impacto y proponer estrategias oportunas en esta área. Objetivo. Evaluar el cumplimiento de la recomendación global de AF 1 año después de ingresar a un programa de RC para enfermedad arterial coronaria. Métodos. Se aplicó el Cuestionario Internacional de Actividad Física a adultos con enfermedad coronaria tratada a los 6 y 12 meses de su ingreso a un programa de Rehabilitación Cardíaca en 6 hospitales de Chile, entre mayo de 2019 y febrero de 2020 en el contexto del estudio aleatorizado. Se realizó un ensayo clínico multicéntrico de no inferioridad (Hybrid Cardiac Rehabilitation Trial, HYCARET). Resultados. 117 participantes (74 hombres, edad 59,34 ±9,52 años, 83,4±27,2% de adherencia a la RC) físicamente activos al final de un programa de RC fueron evaluados a los 6 y 12 meses desde el ingreso para determinar su adherencia a la AF. La tasa de seguimiento fue del 94,01% a los 6 meses (6m) y del 78,63% a los 12 meses (12m). El 90% de los participantes seguían físicamente activos a los 6 meses y el 92,39% seguían activos a los 12 meses después del evento coronario. Un 5,98% fueron clasificados como inactivos a los 6 m pero estaban físicamente activos al año. En contraste, sólo el 0,85% se volvió inactivo a los 6 meses y permaneció inactivo hasta 1 año, mientras que el 4,27% se reportó como activo a los 6 meses, pero terminó estando inactivo al año. La AF relacionada con las tareas del hogar es responsable del 40% y más del gasto calórico total de los adultos después de un evento coronario en todo momento. El gasto calórico relacionado con actividades recreativas y transporte disminuyó a los 6 y 12 meses, mientras que el gasto calórico asociado con el trabajo y las actividades domésticas aumentó a los 6 y 12 meses después de completar un programa de RC. Conclusión. Los adultos que completan un programa de RC continúan activos 6 y 12 meses después de un evento coronario. Sin embargo, las actividades que generan mayor gasto calórico varían con el tiempo. Este hallazgo resalta la importancia de fomentar la actividad física como parte del tiempo de ocio y recreación en los adultos, ya que se sabe que su beneficio es mayor.


Background. Establishing a healthy, active lifestyle is one of the most important and challenging goals of cardiac rehabilitation. Understanding the behavior of physical activity (PA) patterns in adults who have suffered a coronary event and who have participated in a Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) program is necessary to evaluate its impact and propose timely strategies in this area. Objetive. To evaluate compliance with the global PA recommendation 1 year after entering a CR program for coronary artery disease. Methods. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire was applied to adults with coronary heart disease treated 6 and 12 months after admission to a Cardiac Rehabilitation program in 6 hospitals in Chile, between May 2019 and February 2020 in the context of the randomized study. A multicenter non-inferiority clinical trial (Hybrid Cardiac Rehabilitation Trial, HYCARET) was conducted. Results. 117 participants (74 men, age 59.34 ± 9.52 years, 83.4 ± 27.2% adherence to CR) physically active at the end of a CR program were evaluated at 6 and 12 months from entry. to determine their adherence to PA. The follow-up rate was 94.01% at 6 months (6m) and 78.63% at 12 months (12m). 90% of participants were still physically active at 6 months and 92.39% were still active at 12 months after the coronary event. 5.98% were classified as inactive at 6 m but were physically active at one year. In contrast, only 0.85% became inactive at 6 months and remained inactive for up to 1 year, while 4.27% reported themselves as active at 6 months but ended up being inactive at one year. Housework-related PA is responsible for 40% and more of adults' total caloric expenditure after a coronary event at all times. Caloric expenditure related to recreational activities and transportation decreased at 6 and 12 months, while caloric expenditure associated with work and home activities increased at 6 and 12 months after completing a CR program. Conclusion. Adults who complete a CR program remain active 6 and 12 months after a coronary event. However, the activities that generate the greatest caloric expenditure vary over time. This finding highlights the importance of promoting physical activity as part of leisure and recreation time in adults, since it is known that its benefit is greater.

La enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC) es una enfermedad que cursa con manifestaciones multisistémicas y agudizaciones, y que conlleva una importante carga de morbilidad, mortalidad y costes sanitarios. Distintas medidas terapéuticas y de prevención juegan un papel importante en mejorar el pronóstico y la salud respiratoria de estos pacientes. Realizar actividad física de forma generalizada, llevar a cabo unos hábitos dietéticos y nutricionales adecuados, abandonar el consumo de tabaco y alcanzar un estado de inmunización óptimo son varias de las acciones de salud recomendadas. Estas también enlentecerán el proceso de envejecimiento. Además, se recomienda realizar políticas de salud pública para reducir la contaminación del aire y el cambio climático. Por último, debemos prestar especial atención a las características del sueño de estos pacientes y llevar a cabo un abordaje terapéutico que incluya una mejor calidad del sueño. (AU)


Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease with multisystemic manifestations and exacerbations that lead to a significant burden of morbidity, mortality, and health care costs. Various therapeutic and preventive measures play an important role in improving the prognosis and respiratory health of the patients. General physical activity, proper dietary and nutritional habits, smoking cessation, and achieving an optimal immunization status are some of the recommended health actions. They also slow down the aging process. In addition, public health policies are recommended to reduce air pollution and climate change. Finally, we should pay special attention to the sleep characteristics of these patients and carry out a therapeutic approach that includes better sleep quality. (AU)

Antecedentes y objetivo: El sedentarismo es un factor predictivo para numerosas enfermedades. El objetivo de este estudio fue valorar la evolución de la prevalencia de sedentarismo en la población española adulta entre los años 1987-2020. Métodos: Las fuentes de datos fueron las Encuestas Nacionales y Europeas de Salud. La prevalencia de sedentarismo se valoró en 3 escenarios (actividad principal, tiempo libre y todos los escenarios). Se estimaron prevalencias de sedentarismo global, por sexo y grupo de edad. En todos los escenarios la prevalencia también se estimó por comunidad autónoma. La tendencia de las prevalencias se analizó con los porcentajes de cambio anual (PCA) obtenidos a través de modelos joinpoint. Resultados: La prevalencia de sedentarismo en la actividad principal varió entre el 31,2% en 1987 y el 38,4% en 2020 (PCA: 0,7 [0,5 a 1,0]), siendo mayor en los varones que en las mujeres, y más elevada en los más jóvenes y en los más mayores. La prevalencia de sedentarismo en el tiempo libre varió entre el 55,1% en 1993 y el 36,4% en 2020 (PCA: −1,4 [−1,9 a −0,9]), siendo siempre superior en las mujeres, más alta en los mayores de 64 años y menor en los de 16-24 años. Cantabria y Canarias fueron las comunidades autónomas con la prevalencia de sedentarismo más baja en todos los escenarios. Conclusiones: La prevalencia de sedentarismo en la actividad principal está aumentando en España, mientras que durante el tiempo libre está descendiendo. Es importante aplicar medidas de prevención y promoción de la salud dirigidas a disminuir el sedentarismo en la población.(AU)


Background and objective: Sedentary behavior is a predictive factor for numerous diseases. The objective of this study was to assess the evolution of the prevalence of sedentary behavior in the Spanish adult population between 1987 and 2020. Methods: The data sources were the National and European Health Surveys. The prevalence of sedentary behavior was assessed in three scenarios (main activity, leisure time and all scenarios). Prevalence of sedentary behavior was estimated overall, by sex and age group. In all scenarios, prevalence was also estimated by Autonomous Community. The prevalence trend was analyzed with the annual percent change (APC) obtained through joinpoint models. Results: The prevalence of sedentary in the main activity ranged from 31.2% in 1987 to 38.4% in 2020 [PCA: 0.7 (0.5-1.0)], being higher in men than in women and higher in younger and older people. The prevalence of sedentary in the leisure time varied between 55.1% in 1993 and 36.4% in 2020 [PCA: −1.4 (−1.9 to −0.9)], being always higher in women, higher in those over 64 years of age and lower in those aged 16–24 years. Cantabria and the Canary Islands were the Autonomous Communities with the lowest prevalence of sedentary behavior in all scenarios. Conclusions: The prevalence of sedentary behavior in the main activity is increasing in Spain, whereas during leisure time it is decreasing. It is important to implement prevention and health promotion measures aimed at reducing sedentary behavior in the population.(AU)

Fundamentos: La pandemia causada por el virus SARS-CoV-2 ha provocado un aumento en los niveles de estrés en la población, el cual se relaciona con cambios en los hábitos alimentarios. El objetivo fue determinar la relación entre el nivel de estrés y los hábitos alimentarios en adultos chilenos durante la pandemia por la COVID-19, en el año 2021. Métodos: estudio observacional descriptivo y transversal. Se aplicó una encuesta autoadministrada que abordó características sociodemográficas, hábitos alimentarios, y la Escala de Estrés Percibido (EPP-10-C) adaptada para el contexto de esta emergencia sanitaria. Resultados: participaron 382 adultos con una edad promedio de 35,02 ± 13,08 años, que en su mayoría mostraron un bajo nivel de estrés, no cumplían con el consumo semanal de pescados, legumbres y lácteos de acuerdo con las Guías Alimentarias Chilenas, con una elevada frecuencia de consumo de alimentos azucarados, fritos, ricos en grasas y de comida rápida y que no realizaban ejercicio físico o la hacían de manera ocasional. Se encontró una mayor frecuencia de consumo de snacks dulces y/o salados entre comidas y de comidas rápidas, y de sedentarismo entre los adultos con alto nivel de estrés, respecto a los que mostraron bajo nivel de estrés. Conclusiones: la mayoría de los chilenos evaluados mostraron un elevado consumo de alimentos no saludables, acompañado de una baja realización de ejercicio físico. Surge la necesidad de implementar políticas que promuevan cambios en el estilo de vida, durante situaciones de confinamiento como la pandemia de COVID-19. (AU)


Background: The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has led to heightened stress levels in the population, correlating with changes in dietary habits. The objective was to determine the relationship between stress levels and dietary habits among Chilean adults in 2021. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional observational study was conducted. A self-administered survey addressing sociodemographic characteristics, dietary habits, and the adapted Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10-C) for the context of this health emergency was employed. Results: A total of 382 adults, with an average age of 35.02 ± 13.08 years, participated. The majority exhibited low stress levels but failed to meet the weekly consumption recommendations for fish, legumes, and dairy according to the Chilean Dietary Guidelines. High frequencies of consumption of sugary, fried, and fatty foods, as well as fast food, were reported. Additionally, a significant portion did not engage in regular physical exercise. Participants with high stress levels demonstrated a higher frequency of consuming sweet and/or salty snacks between meals, fast food, and a sedentary lifestyle compared to those with low stress levels. Conclusions: The majority of evaluated Chileans exhibited elevated consumption of unhealthy foods coupled with low levels of physical exercise. This underscores the imperative need for implementing policies promoting lifestyle changes, especially during situations of confinement such as the COVID-19 pandemic. (AU)

The use of smart devices such as mobile phones (smartphones) or smart watches (smartwatch) to promote physical activity and well-being has increased in recent years among patients and professionals in primary care. This change is driven by the access of patients and professionals to a large catalog of health applications, which can complement the provision of services and promote the empowerment of patients in their own health and lifestyles. These applications are beginning to be integrated with areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and data storage in the cloud, among other emerging technological systems, offering a new complementary approach to clinical practice known so far. Despite the great potential, there are numerous limitations and major challenges for its full implementation in clinical practice.

This study analyzed physical activity patterns, sedentary behaviors and exposure to screens in students from four school units in Rio de Janeiro. The objective was to provide insights for the development of health promotion strategies through physical activities and sports (AFES). Using the IPAQ questionnaire, data were collected from 1668 students, with an average age of approximately 13.8 years from all grades of primary and secondary education. Statistical tests were used for analysis. The results indicated that students walked, on average, more than 10 minutes per day on 4 days (male) and 3 days (female), with 75 minutes (male) and 69 minutes (female) of daily walking, respectively. The average of moderate activities was 91 minutes per day, while vigorous activities totaled, on average, 126 minutes (male) and 71 minutes (female). Significant sex differences were observed in daily walking, moderate and vigorous activities, and weekly inactivity time. Variations were also identified between school units, indicating differences in the application of AFES. The positive and significant correlation between the total number of days and the time of vigorous activities (ρ = 0.65; p ≤ 0.05) highlights the importance of different strategies. With regard to inactivity and exposure to screens, the average time during the week was 574 minutes, while on weekends it was 510 minutes. These results contribute to direct health promotion policies, emphasizing the need for personalized approaches for students in Rio de Janeiro.


Este estudio analizó patrones de actividad física, conductas sedentarias y exposición a pantallas en estudiantes de cuatro unidades escolares de Río de Janeiro. El objetivo fue proporcionar conocimientos para el desarrollo de estrategias de promoción de la salud a través de actividades físicas y deportivas (AFES). Utilizando el cuestionario IPAQ, se recogieron datos de 1668 estudiantes, con una edad promedio de aproximadamente 13,8 años, de todos los grados de educación primaria y secundaria. Se utilizaron pruebas estadísticas para el análisis. Los resultados indicaron que los estudiantes caminaron, en promedio, más de 10 minutos por día durante 4 días (hombres) y 3 días (mujeres), con 75 minutos (hombres) y 69 minutos (mujeres) de caminata diaria, respectivamente. El promedio de actividades moderadas fue de 91 minutos por día, mientras que las actividades vigorosas sumaron, en promedio, 126 minutos (hombres) y 71 minutos (mujeres). Se observaron diferencias de sexo significativas en la caminata diaria, las actividades moderadas y vigorosas y el tiempo de inactividad semanal. INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to describe the cardiovascular risk profile of working young adults from Spain and its association with lifestyle. METHODS: Participants (18-30 years) were recruited from a nationwide cohort of economically active adults insured by a large occupational risk prevention company, with data obtained from routine medical assessments. The participants were categorized as having an "unhealthy" cardiovascular risk profile based on the presence of prediabetes/diabetes, prehypertension/hypertension, or hypercholesterolemia, or a "healthy" profile if these conditions were completely absent. The association with lifestyle factors (weight, physical activity, sleeping characteristics, alcohol consumption, smoking) was assessed. RESULTS: A total of 78 421 young adults (27±2 years, 36% female) were evaluated at baseline. The "unhealthy" cardiovascular risk profile was prevalent (18%) and inversely associated (OR, 0.64; 95%CI, 0.57-0.80) with an optimal lifestyle (normal weight, regular physical activity, no drinking/smoking, and good sleep). The latter condition was found in only 3.5% of the participants. On the other hand, prospective analyses in 44 776 participants (median follow-up=2 [range 2-5] years) showed that 2.0% transitioned from a "healthy" to an "unhealthy" profile. Being physically active (OR, 0.95; 95%CI, 0.81-0.99) and having a normal weight (OR, 0.61; 95%CI, 0.51-0.70) were associated with a lower likelihood of this transition. No consistent associations were found for other lifestyle factors. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors is high in economically active young Spanish adults. An unhealthy cardiovascular risk profile is inversely associated with an optimal lifestyle, but the latter is highly infrequent in this population.

Objetivo: Este estudio se realizó para evaluar las elecciones alimentarias de los trabajadores de la salud según la imagen corporal, la ortorexia saludable y el estado de actividad física.Métodos: Este estudio se realizó mediante la técnica de entrevista cara a cara con 137 personal de salud que aceptaron voluntariamente participar en el estudio en un hospital privado en Ankara entre diciembre de 2022 y febrero de 2023. Información sobre el estado de salud y nutrición, medidas antropométricas (altura (cm), peso corporal (kg)) Cuestionario de forma corporal (BSQ-34), Escala de ortorexia de Teruel (TOS), Cuestionario de selección de alimentos (FCQ), Internacional Se administró el Cuestionario de actividad física (IPAQ).Resultados: Participaron en el estudio un total de 137 personas, 69,3% mujeres y 30,7% hombres. Se encontró una diferencia significativa entre hombres y mujeres en términos de estado de ánimo, condición física y factores de control del peso corporal en la selección de alimentos (p<0,05). El factor de control del estado emocional y del peso corporal afecta positivamente a la ortorexia nerviosa, mientras que el factor de atracción sensorial afecta negativamente a la ortorexia nerviosa (p<0,05 ß=0,260, ß=0,291, ß= -0,426). No hubo diferencia significativa en cuanto a los factores considerados en la selección de alimentos según el estado de actividad física de los trabajadores de la salud (p<0,05).Conclusión: Se observó que la insatisfacción con la imagen corporal de las mujeres fue mayor que la de los hombres. El promedio de los factores de control del estado de ánimo, el estado físico y el peso corporal a los que las mujeres prestan atención en la selección de alimentos tienen un efecto mayor que los hombres. Se consideró que las actividades físicas de los trabajadores de la salud eran insuficientes.(AU)


Objective: This study was conducted to change the nutri-tional choices of healthcare professionals according to bodyimage, healthy orthorexia and physical activity.Methods: This study was conducted in a private hospitalbetween December 2022 and February 2023 with 95 femaleand 42 male healthcare professionals who agreed to partici-pate in the research. A face-to-face survey form was used forhealthcare workers and general information, information onhealth and nutritional status, anthropometric measurements(height (cm), body weight ((kg)), Body Shape Questionnaire(BSQ-34), Teruel Orthorexia Scale (TOS) were collected, FoodChoice Questionnaire (FCQ), International Physical ActivityQuestionnaire (IPAQ). Results: The average BMI of healthcare workers is withinthe normal range (24.8±4.43kg/m2). There was a significantdifference between genders in terms of body shape dissatis-faction, and it was found that women were more likely thanmen (p<0.05). While the average BSQ-34 score of obese pe-ople is highest, the average decreases as the BMI level dec-reases. There is a significant relationship between gender andBMI in those who do not have body shape dissatisfaction andthose who have mild dissatisfaction (p<0.05). There is a sig-nificant difference between genders in terms of mood, fitnessand body weight control factors in food selection, and theaverage for women is higher than for men (p<0.05). As bodyshape dissatisfaction increases, the average mood factor infood selection increases. Age positively affects healthy ortho-rexia (p<0.05, ß=0.269). RESUMO

This study, a Doctorate Research excerpt, aimed to map the effects of an on-line pedagogical intervention guided on physical activity (PA) self-regulatory strategies during the pandemic at a public school. This is qualitative Research, of the pedagogical intervention type using an educational tool. 35 high school students (14 to 17 years old) were interviewed in 8 on-line focus groups. The software IRaMuTeQ was employed to interpret data. The results were organized in six classes: "Diary as in incentive to PA", "Strategies to increase motivation", "Choices and PA sociostructural factors", "How preferences and social support influences PA", "Goals and self-assessment reflections", "PA monitoring". Previously inactive, insufficiently active students (who identified themselves with the educational tool´s character) felt more confident to engage in PA (positive effect) using strategies taught in the intervention (PA diary). Previously physically active students rated the intervention effects as neutral, but praised critical debates on social inequalities and PA. During the intervention, some students employed simple self-regulatory strategies (graded goals), while others did not employ any due to not being something intuitive, lack of motivation, forgetting. This pedagogical intervention seems to be effective to teach the conceptual interfaces between PA, psychology, and society.


En este estudio, que forma parte de una investigación de Doctorado, nos propusimos mapear los efectos de una intervención pedagógica en línea anclada en estrategias autorreguladoras de actividad física (AF) durante la pandemia en un instituto público. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa, del tipo intervención pedagógica con ayuda de recurso didáctico. Se realizaron 8 entrevistas semiestructuradas en grupo en línea con 35 alumnos (14 a 17 años) de la enseñanza secundaria. Se utilizó el software IRaMuTeQ para interpretar los datos. Los resultados se organizaron en seis clases: "Diario como estímulo para AF", "Estrategias para aumentar la motivación", "Elecciones y factores socioestructurales para AF", "Influencia del gusto y del incentivo para AF", "Reflexiones sobre metas y autoevaluación", "Monitoreo de la AF". Alumnos anteriormente inactivos o poco activos (identificados con el personaje del recurso didáctico) se sintieron más seguros para practicar AF (efecto positivo) con estrategias enseñadas en la intervención (diario de AF). Los estudiantes físicamente activos atribuyeron un efecto neutro a la intervención, pero valoraron las reflexiones críticas sobre las desigualdades sociales y la AF. Algunos estudiantes emplearon estrategias sencillas de autorregulación (metas graduales) de forma más consistente durante la intervención, mientras que otros no las emplearon porque: no eran intuitivas; les faltó motivación; se olvidaron de hacerlo. La intervención pedagógica parece ser eficaz para la enseñanza conceptual de las interfaces entre AF, psicología y sociedad.


Neste estudo, recorte de uma pesquisa de Doutorado, objetivou-se mapear os efeitos de uma intervenção pedagógica on-line ancorada em estratégias autorregulatórias de atividade física (AF) durante a pandemia em um colégio público. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, do tipo intervenção pedagógica com auxílio de recurso didático. Foram realizadas 8 entrevistas semiestruturadas em grupo on-line com 35 estudantes (14 a 17 anos) do Ensino Médio. Utilizou-se o software IRaMuTeQ para interpretar os dados. Os resultados foram organizados em seis classes: "Diário como estímulo para AF", "Estratégias para aumentar a motivação", "Escolhas e fatores socioestruturais para AF", "Influência do gosto e do incentivo para AF", "Reflexões sobre metas e autoavaliação", "Monitoramento da AF". Estudantes previamente inativos ou pouco ativos (identificados com o personagem do recurso didático) sentiram-se mais confiantes para praticar AF (efeito positivo) com estratégias ensinadas na intervenção (diário de AF). Estudantes ativos fisicamente atribuíram efeito neutro à intervenção, mas valorizaram as reflexões críticas sobre as desigualdades sociais e a AF. Alguns estudantes empregaram estratégias autorregulatórias simples (metas graduais) mais consistentemente durante a intervenção, enquanto outros não as empregaram por: não ser algo intuitivo; falta de motivação; esquecimento. A intervenção pedagógica parece ser eficaz para o ensino conceitual das interfaces entre AF, psicologia e sociedade.
