Objectives: To study the impact of coronavirus disease-2019 on Expanded Programme on Immunisation in a rural setting. METHODS: The descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in five union councils of District Dir Lower, in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Data was collected from March to August 2020, which was a period of lockdowns in the wake of the coronavirus disease-2019, and then from March to August 2021. The sample comprised children aged <2 years. Data was analysed using SPSS 25. RESULTS: Of the 330 children, 210(63.6%) were boys, and 120(36.4%) were girls, and all 330(100%) were located in rural areas. First-phase data showed that the maximum coverage rate of immunisation was 258(78.2%) noted in OPV1(Oral Polio Vaccine) Penta1(Pentavalent vaccine), PCV10-1 (Pneumococcal pneumonia) and Rota 1(Rota Vaccine), and the least vaccination rate was 68.2% for Measle-1. In the second phase, 23% incline was noted in Measles-2 vaccination, followed by 16.3% in OPV2, Penta 2, PCV10-2 and Rota 2, 16% in Measles-1, 14% in OPV-3, Penta-3, PCV10-3, Rota-3 and IPV, 11.5% in OPV-1, Penta-1, PCV10-1, and Rota-1, and 10.6% in OPV-0 and BCG-0. CONCLUSIONS: Immunisation programme was affected by lockdowns during the active phase of the coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic.

Purpose: Analyzing Kawasaki disease epidemiology during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in South Korea using 2012-2020 National Health Insurance Service data. Methods: The incidence of Kawasaki disease for 2012-2020 was investigated to identify changes in incidence after the start of the pandemic. National Health Insurance Service data from the Republic of Korea were used. Kawasaki disease was defined based on the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, the Tenth Revision diagnostic code (M30.3), and the intravenous immunoglobulin prescription code. Prescription history was collected for the following medications: intravenous immunoglobulin, aspirin, corticosteroids, tumor necrosis factor-α antagonist, clopidogrel, and anticoagulation drugs. Results: The Kawasaki disease incidence per 100,000 individuals younger than 5 years was 238.9, 230.0, and 141.2 in 2018, 2019, and 2020, respectively. Regarding the incidence from 2012 to 2020, it was the highest in 2018 and decreased to 141.2 (p < 0.001) in 2020, after the start of the pandemic. In 2020, 28.3% of all patients with KD were infants, a percentage significantly higher than that of the previous year (p < 0.001). There was biphasic seasonality in the monthly Kawasaki disease incidence. The Kawasaki disease incidence was the highest in winter followed by that in early summer. Conclusion: After the start of the pandemic, the Kawasaki disease incidence decreased, and the percentage of patients with Kawasaki disease aged <1 year increased. These findings provide support for the hypothesis suggesting an infectious trigger in Kawasaki disease.

Motivation: Under contemporary market conditions in China, the stock index has been volatile and highly reflect trends in the coronavirus pandemic, but rare scientific research has been conducted to model the possible nonlinear relations between the two indicators. Added, on the advent that covid-related news in one time period impacts the stock market in another period, time delay can be an equally good predictor of the stock index but rarely investigated. Objectives: To contribute to filling the gaps identified in existing research, this study models relationship between the stock market index and coronavirus pandemic by leveraging volatility in the stock market and covid data through time delay and best degree in a polynomial environment. The resultant optimal time delay and best degree model is used to derive a high-accuracy prediction of stock market index. Novelty: In line with the possible relations, the novelty of this study is that it proposes, validates and implements polynomial regression with time delay to model nonlinear relationship between the stock index and covid. Methods: This study utilizes high-frequency data from January 2020 to the first week of July 2022 to model the nonlinear relationship between the stock index, new covid cases and time delay under polynomial regression environment. Findings: The empirical results show that time delay and new covid cases, when modelled in a polynomial environment with optimal degree and delay, do present better representation of the nonlinear relationship such predictors have with stock index for China. Relative to results from the polynomial regression without delay, the empirical evidence from the model with delay show that an optimal time delay of 17 weeks makes it possible to predict the stock index at high accuracy and record improvements of 16-fold or higher. The representative delay model is used to project for up to 17 weeks for future trends in the stock index. Implication: The implication of the findings herein is that the prowess of the time delay polynomial regression is heavily dependent on instability in covid-related time trends and that researchers and decision-makers should consider modeling to cover for the unsteadiness in coronavirus cases to achieve better results.

Statistical modeling of epidemiological curves to capture the course of epidemic processes and to implement a signaling system for detecting significant changes in the process is a challenging task, especially when the process is affected by political measures. As previous monitoring approaches are subject to various problems, we develop a practical and flexible tool that is well suited for monitoring epidemic processes under political measures. This tool enables monitoring across different epochs using a single statistical model that constantly adapts to the underlying process, and therefore allows both retrospective and on-line monitoring of epidemic processes. It is able to detect essential shifts and to identify anomaly conditions in the epidemic process, and it provides decision-makers a reliable method for rapidly learning from trends in the epidemiological curves. Moreover, it is a tool to evaluate the effectivity of political measures and to detect the transition from pandemic to endemic. This research is based on a comprehensive COVID-19 study on infection rates under political measures in line with the reporting of the Robert Koch Institute covering the entire period of the pandemic in Germany.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a significant disruption in the social lives and mental health of people across the world. This study aims to asses the effect of using internet search volume data. We categorize the widely searched keywords on the internet in several categories, which are relevant in analyzing the public mental health status. Corresponding to each category of keywords, we conduct an appropriate statistical analysis to identify significant changes in the search pattern during the course of the pandemic. Binary segmentation method of changepoint detection, along with the combination of ARMA-GARCH models are utilized in this analysis. It helps us detect how people's behavior changed in phases and whether the severity of the pandemic brought forth those shifts in behaviors. Interestingly, we find that rather than the severity of the outbreak, the long duration of the pandemic has affected the public health status more. The phases, however, align well with the so-called COVID-19 waves and are consistent for different aspects of social and mental health. We further observe that the results are typically similar for different states as well.

Over the course of three and a half years, the global toll of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has claimed the lives of millions of individuals. Scientific breakthroughs, exemplified by mRNA vaccines, have emerged as crucial tools in saving numerous lives and fortifying our defenses against future pandemics. However, the battle against the virus has been complicated by the dissemination of misleading political and ethical information, resulting in avoidable fatalities. Recognizing this phenomenon, the term 'infodemics' has been coined to denote the proliferation of false or misleading information that hinders effective social responses. Given the historical prevalence of infodemics surrounding vaccinations, this discussion delves into the ongoing ethical and legal deliberations concerning vaccination mandates, an indispensable health intervention in the face of pandemics. Governments bear the responsibility of safeguarding their citizens, acknowledging the social requirements imposed by the collective well-being. The protection of both citizens and healthcare workers becomes paramount, considering the potential risks of infection and mortality associated with individuals refusing vaccination. Historically, governments have played a pivotal role in eradicating pandemics through the implementation of vaccine mandates. However, the contemporary landscape is marked by the infusion of political and misleading misinformation, presenting new challenges. Governments are now confronted with an ethical duty to ensure that citizens possess the necessary information to make informed decisions and safeguard their well-being. While grappling with the realization that extraordinary circumstances demand extraordinary responses, the lessons from past pandemics underscore the imperative of prioritizing public health, especially in the context of the high numbers of casualties worldwide. This discourse explores the ethical and legal dimensions surrounding vaccine mandates, with particular emphasis on their relevance to healthcare workers.

Protective face masks were one of the central measures to counteract viral transmission in the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior research indicates that face masks impact various aspects of social cognition, such as emotion recognition and social evaluation. Whether protective masks also influence social avoidance behavior is less clear. Our project assessed direct and indirect measures of social avoidance tendencies towards masked and unmasked faces in two experiments with 311 participants during the first half of 2021. Two interventions were used in half of the participants from each sample (Experiment 1: protective face masks; Experiment 2: a disease prime video) to decrease or increase the salience of the immediate contagion threat. In the direct social avoidance measure, which asked for the deliberate decision to approach or avoid a person in a hypothetical social encounter, participants showed an increased willingness to approach masked as opposed to unmasked faces across experiments. This effect was further related to interindividual differences in pandemic threat perception in both samples. In the indirect measure, which assessed automatic social approach and avoidance tendencies, we neither observed an approach advantage towards masked faces nor an avoidance advantage for unmasked faces. Thus, while the absence of protective face masks may have led to increased deliberate social avoidance during the pandemic, no such effect was observed on automatic regulation of behavior, thus indicating the relative robustness of this latter behavior against changes in superordinate social norms.

PURPOSE: With state-wide quarantine policies during the COVID-19 pandemic like those implemented in the state of Texas, intimate partner violence (IPV) shelter staff were forced to incorporate new safety measures to keep survivors and advocates safe. To understand the impact of these adaptations fully, authors interviewed shelter staff and residents to capture both of their experiences living and working in the same shelter during the height of the coronavirus pandemic (summer 2020) to understand how changes in policy and procedure in shelters impacted survivors and advocates. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A qualitative phenomenological design was utilized to collect and analyze data from 10 staff and 10 survivors to develop both a textual and a structural description of participant experiences living in an IPV shelter. RESULTS: The current study captured the survivors' and advocates' perspectives related to the 1) vacillating views of shelter social distancing and quarantine policies, 2) shelter occupancy and staffing unpredictability, 3) the broader challenges related to environmental stressors and 4) mobility challenges. DISCUSSION: Results of this study highlight factors related to interpersonal relationships within the shelter and structural factors of shelter which contributed to stress for participants. CONCLUSION: The coronavirus is continuing to present challenges for shelters. Implications can be drawn from provider and client experiences that can inform policies and procedures for future health crises, including the need to mitigate environmental stress and transportation challenges, as well as considerations for maintaining social support should social distancing be necessary in future epidemics.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic led to health care disruptions and declines in cancer diagnoses in the United States. However, the impact of the pandemic on cancer incidence rates by stage at diagnosis and race and ethnicity is unknown. This cross-sectional study calculated delay- and age-adjusted incidence rates, stratified by stage at diagnosis and race and ethnicity, and rate ratios (RRs) comparing changes in year-over-year incidence rates (eg, 2020 vs 2019) from 2016 to 2020 for 22 cancer types based on data obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results 22-registry database. From 2019 to 2020, the incidence of local-stage disease statistically significantly declined for 19 of the 22 cancer types, ranging from 4% (RR = 0.96; 95%CI, 0.93-0.98) for urinary bladder cancer to 18% for colorectal (RR = 0.82; 95%CI, 0.81-0.84) and laryngeal (RR = 0.82; 95%CI, 0.78-0.88) cancers, deviating from pre-COVID stable year-over-year changes. Incidence during the corresponding period also declined for 16 cancer types for regional-stage and six cancer types for distant-stage disease. By race and ethnicity, the decline in local-stage incidence for screening-detectable cancers was generally greater in historically marginalized populations. The decline in cancer incidence rates during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic occurred mainly for local- and regional-stage diseases across racial and ethnic groups. Whether these declines will lead to increases in advanced-stage disease and mortality rates remain to be investigated with additional data years. Nevertheless, the findings reinforce the importance of strengthening the return to preventive care campaigns and outreach for detecting cancers at early and more treatable stages.

The first year of the COVID-19 pandemic had a profound impact on everyday life in Australia despite relatively low infection rates. Lockdown restrictions were among the harshest in the world, while older adults were portrayed as especially vulnerable by politicians and the media. This study examines the perceptions and experiences of the pandemic and lockdowns among 31 older Australians. We investigated how participants perceived their own vulnerability, their attitudes towards lockdowns and protective behaviors, and how the pandemic affected everyday life. We found that participants were cautious about COVID-19 and vigilant observers of physical distancing. Despite approving of public health guidelines and lockdowns, participants raised concerns about weakening social ties and prolonged social isolation. Those living alone or lacking strong family ties were most likely to report increased loneliness. Most participants nonetheless regarded themselves as "fortunate": they perceived older age as affording them financial, emotional, and relational stability, which insulated them from the worst impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. In their views, financial independence and post-retirement lifestyles helped them adapt to isolation and the disruption of lockdowns.

The Covid-19 pandemic and related massive spread of home based work led to substantial changes in the conditions for combining work and childbearing. On the one hand, working from home helped parents to accommodate increased childcare needs during the pandemic. On the other hand, it led to acute experiences of blurred boundaries between work and family life during childcare and school closures. Therefore, the direction of the impact of working from home on fertility intentions during the pandemic is not unequivocal. In this paper, we investigate how working from home was related to change in fertility intentions of mothers and fathers during the pandemic and discuss the complex mechanisms behind these relationships. With the use of unique Familydemic Survey data from a representative sample of parents in Poland, we estimate multinomial logit regressions by gender and consider a set of potential moderators, including financial well-being, gender relations, and occupational characteristics. We find evidence for an overall negative relationship between home based work and fertility intentions for mothers, but we also uncover some positive moderating effects. In particular, we shed light on the unobvious moderating role of gendered division of unpaid labor from before the pandemic.

OBJECTIVE: To study the impact of reorganization of European hospitals during the most severe phase of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on standards of care and early outcomes in patients with periprosthetic fractures. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We reviewed available data collected from 14 hospitals in Northern Italy during the quarantine period between March 9 and May 4, 2020. The study included all patients admitted to emergency departments with periprosthetic fractures and scheduled for surgery within a 2-month period. Periprosthetic fractures were classified according to the Uniform Classification System (UCS). Distribution normality was tested using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Accordingly, data were described as non-parametric. Statistical analysis was performed using the Microsoft Excel v. 16.0. RESULTS: In total, 1390 patients admitted to the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology for emergency care throughout the follow-up period including 38 (2.7%) ones with periprosthetic fractures. There were 12 (31.5%) men and 26 (68.5%) women. Mean age was 81 years (range 70-96). Screening for SARS-CoV-2 by swab was performed in 23 out of 38 patients (60.5%) at admission. It was positive in 2 (5.3%) cases. Three out of thirty-eight patients (7.9%) were diagnosed with COVID-19 due to clinical signs. Of these, 2 patients were diagnosed with COVID-19 before surgery, 3 patients - after surgery. Although the study period coincided with quarantine, the number of admissions for periprosthetic fractures (3%) was similar to that in 2019 and accounted for 3% of the total number of visits to the traumatology and orthopedics departments. CONCLUSION: The study revealed no obvious changes in hospitalizations for periprosthetic fractures despite social restrictions during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. In emergency, hospitals were still able to provide standard care for patients with periprosthetic fractures despite significant amount of resources redirected for the pandemic.

Background and Purpose: Studies have shown that severe coronavirus pandemic 2019 infection could lead to white matter hyperintensities, but the relationship between asymptomatic/mild illness and moderate illness coronavirus pandemic 2019 and white matter hyperintensities remains largely unknown. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between asymptomatic/mild illness and moderate illness coronavirus pandemic 2019 and the risk of white matter hyperintensities. Methods: Hospitalized patients who were confirmed to have coronavirus pandemic 2019 for the first time were enrolled. Fazekas scores were used for assessment of the severity of white matter hyperintensities. We also rated the 90-day functional outcome after discharge. Results: Of the 157 enrolled patients, 124 (78.98%) coronavirus pandemic 2019 patients were classified as having asymptomatic or mild illness, and 33 (21.02%) were classified as having moderate illness. The results showed that the Fazekas scale scores at baseline (periventricular white matter hyperintensities, 1.31±1.16 vs 2.06±1.20; Deep white matter hyperintensities, 1.04±0.97 vs 1.73±1.13 P <0.01) and at follow-up (periventricular white matter hyperintensities, 1.38±1.21 vs 2.09±1.21; Deep white matter hyperintensities, 1.13±1.04 vs 1.79±1.14 P <0.01) were lower in patients with symptomatic or mild illness than in those with moderate illness. Moreover, no significant difference (7.26% vs 3.03%; P =0.377) was observed between the two divided groups in terms of white matter hyperintensities progression. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that moderate COVID-19 is related to severe white matter hyperintensities compared with asymptomatic/mild illness but not to the progression of white matter hyperintensities.

During the coronavirus pandemic, evidence is growing that the severity, susceptibility and host immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection can be highly variable. Several influencing factors have been discussed. Here, we investigated the humoral immune response against SARS-CoV-2 spike, S1, S2, the RBD, nucleocapsid moieties and S1 of seasonal coronaviruses: hCoV-229E, hCoV-HKU1, hCoV-NL63 and hCoV-OC43, as well as MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV, in a cohort of 512 individuals. A bead-based multiplex assay allowed simultaneous testing for all the above antigens and the identification of different antibody patterns. Then, we correlated these patterns with 11 HLA loci. Regarding the seasonal coronaviruses, we found a moderate negative correlation between antibody levels against hCoV-229E, hCoV-HKU1 and hCoV-NL63 and the SARS-CoV-2 antigens. This could be an indication of the original immunological imprinting. High and low antibody response patterns were distinguishable, demonstrating the individuality of the humoral response towards the virus. An immunogenetical factor associated with a high antibody response (formation of ≥4 different antibodies) was the presence of HLA A*26:01, C*02:02 and DPB1*04:01 alleles, whereas the HLA alleles DRB3*01:01, DPB1*03:01 and DB1*10:01 were enriched in low responders. A better understanding of this variable immune response could enable more individualized protective measures.

Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic has posed numerous challenges in accessing adequate healthcare services, particularly for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). On the other hand, telerehabilitation has emerged as a promising solution to address healthcare needs. Since there was no study during the pandemic, we started this study with the aim of assessing the efficacy of telerehabilitation for individuals with SCI during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods This is a prospective double-blind, randomized, controlled trial conducted in a tertiary rehabilitation care center hospital. Thirty participants with traumatic spinal cord injuries (age 18 years or more, either gender) were equally randomized to the telerehabilitation or control group (1:1). Biweekly telerehabilitation sessions (each session: 30 minutes) were provided. Participants in the control group were advised to continue standard usual care as advised previously during outpatient or inpatient rehabilitation. The Spinal Cord Independence Measure (SCIM III) (primary outcome measure) and Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS) (secondary outcome measure) were evaluated at baseline, four weeks, and eight weeks. Results The mean age of the intervention group was 28.2±6.9 years, and the mean age of the control group was 26.3±7.7 years. The self-care (P = 0.03) and mobility domains (P=0.01) of the SCIM III in the intervention group compared to the control group, as determined through a between-group analysis, showed statistically significant differences. CAS also showed improvement in the intervention group compared to the control group. Within-group analysis showed a mean difference of 6.3 points in the intervention group compared to the control group (1.3 points). Conclusion Telerehabilitation intervention is safe, feasible, and effective in improving self-care and mobility domains in persons with spinal cord injuries during the pandemic. It is also effective in reducing the anxiety related to the coronavirus in this population. Further research with a larger sample size and a longer duration is needed to evaluate long-term effectiveness during such crises.

INTRODUCTION: The conventional processes of drug discovery are too expensive, time-consuming and the success rate is limited. Searching for alternatives that have evident safety and potential efficacy could save money, time and improve the current therapeutic regimen outcomes. METHOD: Clinical phytotherapy implies the use of extracts of natural origin for prophylaxis, treatment, or management of human disorders. In this work, the potential role of common Fig (Ficus carica) in the management of COVID-19 infections has been explored. The antiviral effects of Cyanidin-3-rhamnoglucoside which is abundant in common Figs have been illustrated on COVID-19 targets. The immunomodulatory effect and the ability to ameliorate the cytokine storm associated with coronavirus infections have also been highlighted. This work involves various computational studies to investigate the potential roles of common figs in the management of COVID-19 viral infections. RESULTS: Two molecular docking studies of all active ingredients in common Figs were conducted starting with MOE to provide initial insights, followed by Autodock Vina for further confirmation of the results of the top five compounds with the best docking score. CONCLUSION: Finally, Molecular dynamic simulation alongside MMPBSA calculations were conducted using GROMACS to endorse and validate the entire work.

The COVID-19 pandemic raised questions and concerns about the possibility of the virus being transmitted through food, as the virus was found in sewage, shrimps and packages of frozen food. During the first wave of COVID-19, concerns about the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 through food arose. As the number of cases began to increase rapidly, so did the availability of information regarding the virus and ways to prevent infection. A significant portion of this information was disseminated by the media and the general public. Identifying and understanding the main doubts and concerns about food hygiene and safety raised by the Portuguese population during the first wave of COVID-19 is important in order to understand whether these issues have influenced their practices and what lessons can be learnt for food safety and hygiene education. The aims of this work were (1) to understand the doubts and concerns of the Portuguese population regarding food safety and hygiene during the first wave of COVID-19, and how these issues were clarified, (2) to analyze the population's opinion on food/hygiene myths and truths related to the transmission and prevention of the infection, and (3) to understand how the first wave of COVID-19 may have influenced the population's practices linked to food handling and consumption. The main doubts of the respondents were related to food handling (41.6%) and the possibility of transmission of COVID-19 through food (17%). Television was the main source of information used to clarify these doubts (32.9%), followed by a guideline issued by the Directorate-General of Health (30.7%). However, most respondents (50.9%) said that they had only found answers to some of their questions. Most respondents reported washing and disinfecting hands before (85% and 63.4%, respectively) and after (73.8% and 57.3%, respectively) the handling and organization of food purchases. Most respondents did not believe the myths about COVID-19 and food safety, but this depended on their level of education. Some practices may have changed as a result of the pandemic, particularly with regard to washing and disinfecting hands and food, as well as kitchen hygiene.

Emergency department (ED) visits for conditions unrelated to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic decreased during the early pandemic, raising concerns about critically ill patients forgoing care and increasing their risk of adverse outcomes. It is unclear if Hispanic and Black adults, who have a high prevalence of chronic conditions, sought medical assistance for acute emergencies during this time. This study used 2018-2020 ED visit data from the largest safety net hospital in Los Angeles County to estimate ED visit differences for cardiac emergencies, diabetic complications, and strokes, during the first societal lockdown among Black and Hispanic patients using time series analyses. Emergency department visits were lower than the expected levels during the first societal lockdown. However, after the lockdown ended, Black patients experienced a rebound in ED visits while visits for Hispanics remained depressed. Future research could identify barriers Hispanics experienced that contributed to prolonged ED avoidance.

The COVID-19 pandemic led governments around the world to impose unprecedented restrictions on economic activity. Were these restrictions equally justified in poorer countries with fewer demographic risk factors and less ability to weather economic shocks? We develop and estimate a fully specified model of the macroeconomy with epidemiological dynamics, incorporating subsistence constraints in consumption and allowing preferences over "lives versus livelihoods" to vary with income. Poorer countries' demography pushes them unambiguously toward laxer policies. But because both infected and susceptible agents near the subsistence constraint will remain economically active in the face of infection risk and even to some extent under government containment policies, optimal policy in poorer countries pushes in the opposite direction. Moreover, for reasonable income-elasticities of the value of a statistical life, the model can fully rationalize equally strict or stricter policies in poorer countries.

Introduction Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile) colonizes the large intestine, rendering healthy individuals asymptomatic carriers of the disease. In certain instances, C. difficile infection (CDI) occurs. Antibiotic use remains the leading risk factor for CDI. During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, multiple risk and protective factors for and against CDI were identified, and as such multiple studies tried to analyze the pandemic's overall effect on CDI incidence rates, with contradictory results. Our study's aim is to further characterize the CDI incidence rates trends, but for a longer period of 22 months in the pandemic. Methods We included only adult (>18 years) patients, diagnosed with CDI during their hospitalization for the following period: January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2021. Incidence was calculated as cases per 10,000 patient days. The period identified as the COVID-19 pandemic period was the following: March 1, 2020, to December 31, 2021. All analyses were performed by an expert statistician using Minitab software (Minitab Inc., State College, Pennsylvania, United States). Results The mean CDI incidence rate per 10,000 patient-days was 6.86 +/-2.1. The 95% confidence interval for the CDI incidence rate prior to the pandemic was found at 5.67 +/-0.35 while the interval during the pandemic was calculated at 8.06 +/- 0.41 per 10,000 patient days. Those results reveal a statistically significant increase in CDI incidence rates during the COVID-19 era. Conclusion Multiple risk and protective factors for and against hospital-acquired infections (including CDI) have been identified during the unprecedented COVID-19 healthcare crisis. In the literature, there is high controversy regarding the trends of CDI incidence during the pandemic. The current study analyzed an almost two-year period into the pandemic, identifying an increase in CDI rates when compared to the pre-pandemic era.
