Background: The changes in consumers' eating habits are one of the most important factors affecting the consumption of selected foods. The most important factors for bakery products consumers are freshness, taste, price, durability, composition, and country of origin. Objective: The aim of this study was to monitor changes in selected anthropometric characteristics in women from the general population in Slovakia, after 6 weeks of bakery products consumption. Material and Methods: The study was conducted on healthy adult women from the general population (n=78), who were divided into four subgroups ("gluten" group, "gluten-free" group, "whole-grain" group and "control" group). The intervention dose consisted of a different combination of several types of bakery products (bread, pastries, soft pastries) within the individual weeks of consumption, while the intervention lasted 6 weeks, women consumed 150-200 grams per day. Anthropometric characteristics were measured by body composition analyser InBody 720 (Biospace Co. Ltd., Seoul, Republic of Korea), which works on the principle of bioelectrical impedance analysis. We also used the Lookin´Body 3.0 software to process the results. The collected data from these measurements were evaluated statistically and graphically in Microsoft Office Excel 2010 (Los Angeles, CA, USA). The levels of statistical significance were set at P<0.05 (*); P<0.01 (**); P<0.001 (***). Differences among subgroups of probands were tested with Pared Student t-test. Results: The amount of fat mass (FM) in the participants changed along a similar curve as their body weight. After the 6-week intervention, there was a slight decrease in FM with statistical significance (P<0.01). In the third measurement, i.e., two months after the intervention, there was an increase in the amount of FM, but without statistical significance. Fat free mass (FFM) values in women increased very slightly after 6 weeks of consumption and remained approximately at the same level two months after the intervention (without statistical significance). We noted the most significant changes in the visceral fat area (VFA) parameter, which had a steadily increasing tendency. Changes in VFA values were statistically significant after the 6-week intervention (P<0.01) and also after two months of the intervention (P<0.05). Conclusions: Changes in body composition in women were noted already after 6 weeks of bakery products consumption, especially in the FM, FFM, VFA and partially BMI parameters, but no changes were recorded in the WHR parameters during the entire duration of the study. One of the most significant results is the finding that there was an increase in VFA when consuming all types of bakery products (gluten, gluten-free and whole grain).

BACKGROUND: Patients with steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease (aGvHD) not tolerating/responding to ruxolitinib (RR-aGvHD) have a dismal prognosis. METHODS: We retrospectively assessed real-world outcomes of RR-aGvHD treated with the random-donor allogeneic MSC preparation MSC-FFM, available via Hospital Exemption in Germany. MSC-FFM is provided as frozen cell dispersion for administration as i.v. infusion immediately after thawing, at a recommended dose of 1-2 million MSCs/kg body weight in 4 once-weekly doses. 156 patients, 33 thereof children, received MSC-FFM; 5% had Grade II, 40% had Grade III, and 54% had Grade IV aGvHD. Median (range) number of prior therapies was 4 (1-10) in adults and 7 (2-11) in children. RESULTS: The safety profile of MSC-FFM was consistent with previous reports for MSC therapies in general and MSC-FFM specifically. The overall response rate at Day 28 was 46% (95% confidence interval [CI] 36-55%) in adults and 64% (45-80%) in children; most responses were durable. Probability of overall survival at 6, 12 and 24 months was 47% (38-56%), 35% (27-44%) and 30% (22-39%) for adults, and 59% (40-74%), 42% (24-58%) and 35% (19-53%) for children, respectively (whole cohort: median OS 5.8 months). CONCLUSION: A recent real-world analysis of outcomes for 64 adult RR-aGvHD patients not treated with MSCs reports survival of 20%, 16% and 10% beyond 6, 12 and 24 months, respectively (median 28 days). Our data thus suggest effectiveness of MSC-FFM in RR-aGvHD.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Changes in body composition may affect colorectal cancer (CRC) patient's risk of cancer recurrence, secondary cancer, and other chronic diseases. The suggested interventions for changes in body composition such as low muscle mass or high fat mass, are diet and physical activity. Nevertheless, there is limited evidence of how dietary intervention alone can impact body composition. This study aimed to investigate the effect of a 6 and 12 month dietary intervention with a focus on healthy eating according to Norwegian food-based dietary guidelines on weight and body composition in patients with CRC stage I-III, post-surgery. METHODS: This study included participants from the randomized controlled trial CRC-NORDIET study 2-9 months after surgery. The intervention group received an intensive dietary intervention, while the control group underwent similar measurements, but no dietary intervention. Body composition was measured with Lunar iDXA, and the results were analyzed using linear mixed models. RESULTS: A total of 383 participants were included, 192 in the intervention group and 191 in the control group. After 6 months, the intervention group showed a 0.7 kg lower mean weight gain (p = 0.020) and 0.6 kg lower fat mass gain (p = 0.019) than the control group, but no difference at 12 months. Moreover, the fat mass increase was 0.5 percentage points lower at 6 months (p = 0.012), and 0.7 percentage points lower at 12 months (p = 0.011) in the intervention group compared to the controls. At 6 months, the intervention group had 63 g lower gain of visceral adipose tissue compared to the control group (p = 0.031). No differences were seen for fat-free mass or subcutaneous adipose tissue at any time point. The intervention group showed a lower increase in the ratio between fat mass and fat-free mass at both 6 months (p = 0.025) and 12 months (p = 0.021). CONCLUSION: The dietary intervention reduced the increases in total weight and fat masses, without changing fat-free mass. Although the individual changes are small, the dietary intervention may have resulted in an overall more favourable body composition profile. These findings suggest that dietary intervention may be part of a treatment strategy for prevention of weight and fat mass gain in CRC survivors.

The emergence of additive manufacturing technologies has brought about a significant transformation in several industries. Among these technologies, Fused Deposition Modeling/Fused Filament Fabrication (FDM/FFF) 3D printing has gained prominence as a rapid prototyping and small-scale production technique. The potential of FDM/FFF for applications that require improved mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties has been restricted due to the limited range of materials that are suitable for this process. This study explores the integration of various reinforcements, including carbon fibers, glass fibers, and nanoparticles, into the polymer matrix of FDM/FFF filaments. The utilization of advanced materials for reinforcing the filaments has led to the enhancement in mechanical strength, stiffness, and toughness of the 3D-printed parts in comparison to their pure polymer counterparts. Furthermore, the incorporation of fillers facilitates improved thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and flame retardancy, thereby broadening the scope of potential applications for FDM/FFF 3D-printed components. Additionally, the article underscores the difficulties linked with the utilization of filled filaments in FDM/FFF 3D printing, including but not limited to filament extrusion stability, nozzle clogging, and interfacial adhesion between the reinforcement and matrix. Ultimately, a variety of pragmatic implementations are showcased, wherein filled filaments have exhibited noteworthy benefits in comparison to standard FDM/FFF raw materials. The aforementioned applications encompass a wide range of industries, such as aerospace, automotive, medical, electronics, and tooling. The article explores the possibility of future progress and the incorporation of innovative reinforcement materials. It presents a plan for the ongoing growth and application of advanced composite materials in FDM/FFF 3D printing.

OBJECTIVE: This study examined whether phenotypic correlations between psychopathological dimensions and personality traits of different hierarchical levels originate from common genetic and environmental sources of variance. METHOD: Participants were 386 monozygotic and 204 dizygotic twins. The Psychiatric Diagnostic Screening Questionnaire (PDSQ) was applied along with the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R). The results of the CFA confirmed the hypothesis of the internalizing and externalizing dimensions underlying PDSQ scales. RESULTS: The results indicated a significantly greater role of genetic compared to environmental factors in the relationship between internalizing psychopathology and personality traits. Facets of neuroticism showed positive genetic links with internalizing disorders, while negative genetic links were shown for all facets of extraversion except excitement-seeking, competence, self-discipline, achievement striving, actions, and trust. Lower-order personality traits were shown to be associated with internalizing disorders more intensively than the broader domains to which they belong, both at the phenotypic and genetic levels. CONCLUSIONS: High neuroticism, together with several facets from the domain of extraversion and conscientiousness seems to represent an increased genetic susceptibility to the disorders from the internalizing spectrum. Results also suggest that specific environmental factors which are not shared with personality traits contribute to the internalizing symptoms.

Nutrition plays an important role in improving sports performance. The present study aimed at nutritional assessment and examined the relationship between athletic performance and body composition in soccer referees at different levels. The study participants were 120 male soccer referees. 5, 10 and 30 metres (m) sprint tests to measure speed and cooper test for physical fitness were applied in the referees. Participants were divided into two groups as city and class soccer referee. The anthropometric measurements, excluding fat mass (FM) (%), were higher in class referees. Fat mass (%) differences (14⋅1 ± 4⋅28 v. 12⋅3 ± 4⋅41) were statistically significant (P < 0⋅05). Daily energy and nutrient intakes were similar. The inadequacy percentages of energy, vitamin A and calcium were the highest (29⋅2, 30⋅0 and 34⋅2 %, respectively). It was found that a negative significant correlation between FM% and cooper test score (P < 0⋅01; r = -0⋅35), a positive significant correlation between FM% and 5, 10 and 30 m sprint test scores (P < 0⋅01, r = 0⋅38; P < 0⋅01, r = 0⋅38 and P < 0⋅01, r = 0⋅48, respectively). Similarly, there was a negative significant correlation between waist circumference (WC) and cooper test score (P < 0⋅01; r = -0⋅31), a positive significant correlation between WC and 5, 10 and 30 m sprint test scores (P < 0⋅01, r = 0⋅33; P < 0⋅01, r = 0⋅40; P < 0⋅01, r = 0⋅33, respectively). Nutritional recommendations for soccer referees should be made specific to the individual, considering body composition, training intensity and match frequency by a dietician.

In today's world, non-nutritive sweeteners (NNSs) are recognized as substitutes for sugar or other high-calorie sweeteners, and their consumption is increasing dramatically. However, there is ongoing debate regarding the impact of NNSs on anthropometric indices. To fill this gap in knowledge, the current GRADE-assessed systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted to evaluate the effects of artificial- and stevia-based sweeteners consumption on anthropometric indices and serum leptin level which is known as an appetite-regulating hormone. A comprehensive search was conducted on the Scopus, PubMed, and Embase databases up to November 2022 to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effects of NNSs on anthropometric indices and serum leptin levels. Data extraction from qualified studies was performed independently by two researchers. A random- or fixed-effects model was used to estimate weighted mean differences (WMDs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for anthropometric indices such as body weight (BW), body mass index (BMI), fat mass (FM), fat-free mass (FFM), waist circumference (WC) and serum leptin level. Heterogeneity between studies was assessed using Cochran's Q test and quantified using the I2 statistic. From a pool of 3212 studies initially identified, 20 studies with a total sample size of 2158 subjects were included in the analysis. Results of the pooled analysis showed that NNSs consumption had a significant reducing effect on BW (WMD: -1.02, 95% CI: -1.57, -0.46 Kg), FM (WMD: -1.09, 95% CI: -1.90, -0.29), and FFM (WMD: -0.83, 95% CI: -1.42, -0.23), but did not have any significant effect on BMI (WMD: -0.16, 95% CI: -0.35, 0.02), WC (WMD: -1.03, 95% CI: -2.77, 0.72), or serum leptin level (WMD: -2.17, 95% CI: -4.98, 0.65). The findings of this study indicate that the consumption of artificial- and stevia-based sweeteners may lead to a reduction in body weight, fat mass, and free fat mass.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to investigate whether patients with bipolar disorder (BD) in remission differ in personality traits compared with a healthy control group. METHODS: A sample of patients with BD (n = 44) was compared with an individually matched control group (n = 44) using the Danish version of the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO PI-R). Paired t-tests were used to analyze differences between the two groups and multiple regression models to evaluate predictors of NEO scores in the patient group. RESULTS: Patients with BD reported significantly higher scores on both Neuroticism and Openness to Experience and lower scores on Conscientiousness. No differences were found on Extraversion and Agreeableness. The effect size for Neuroticism and its facets had a range from 0.77 to 1.45 SD.Statistically significant group differences were seen on 15 of 30 lower-level traits within all five high-order dimensions. There were large effect sizes for Trust (0.77) and Self-discipline (0.85), while the other statistically significant group differences were smaller with effect sizes in the range from 0.43 to 0.74 SD.However, patients with BD showed a profile with high-order dimensions and lower-level traits within one standard deviation from the mean score except for the lower-level trait Depression. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that patients with BD differ from healthy control persons with respect to higher levels of Neuroticism, Openness to Experience and lower scores on Agreeableness and on Conscientiousness, but prospective studies are needed to evaluate the implications of this finding.

Background: Glycogen storage disease type Ib (GSD Ib) is an autosomal recessively inherited deficiency of the glucose-6-phosphate translocase (G6PT). Clinical features include a combination of a metabolic phenotype (fasting hypoglycemia, lactic acidosis, hepatomegaly) and a hematologic phenotype with neutropenia and neutrophil dysfunction. Dietary treatment involves provision of starches such as uncooked cornstarch (UCCS) and Glycosade® to provide prolonged enteral supply of glucose. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is the treatment of choice for neutropenia. Because long-term stimulation of hematopoiesis with G-CSF causes serious complications such as splenomegaly, hypersplenism, and osteopenia; hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has been considered in some patients with GSD Ib to correct neutropenia and avoid G-CSF related adverse effects. Whether HSCT also has an effect on the metabolic phenotype and utilization of carbohydrate sources has not been determined. Objective: Our objective was to measure the utilization of starch in a patient with GSD Ib before and after HSCT using the minimally invasive 13C-glucose breath test (13C-GBT). Design: A case of GSD Ib (18y; female) underwent 13C-GBT four times: UCCS (pre-HSCT), UCCS (3, 5 months post-HSCT) and Glycosade® (6 months post-HSCT) with a dose of 80 g administered via nasogastric tube after a 4 h fast according to our patient's fasting tolerance. Breath samples were collected at baseline and every 30 min for 240 min. Rate of CO2 production was measured at 120 min using indirect calorimetry. Finger-prick blood glucose was measured using a glucometer hourly to test hypoglycemia (glucose <4 mmol/L). Biochemical and clinical data were obtained from the medical records as a post-hoc chart review. Results: UCCS utilization was significantly higher in GSD Ib pre-HSCT, which reduced and stabilized 5 months post-HSCT. UCCS and Glycosade® utilizations were low and not different at 5 and 6 months post-HSCT. Blood glucose concentrations were not significantly different at any time point. Conclusions: Findings show that HSCT stabilized UCCS utilization, as reflected by lower and stable glucose oxidation. The results also illustrate the application of 13C-GBT to examine glucose metabolism in response to various carbohydrate sources after other treatment modalities like HSCT in GSD Ib.

OBJECTIVES: The present study aimed to develop and cross-validate a futsal-specific bioelectrical equation for estimating fat-free mass (FFM) in male players. METHODS: A total of 66 futsal players (age 23.3 ± 5.4 years) from the Major Portuguese Futsal League "LIGA PLACARD" and from the 2nd and 3rd National Futsal Leagues were included in this cross-sectional, observational study. The participants underwent a foot-to-hand bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) at 50 kHz and completed a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan for reference body composition data. The sport-specific model was developed by stepwise multiple regression using bioelectrical raw parameters [resistance (R) and reactance (Xc)] as independent variables. Validation was performed using the PRESS approach, least squares regression, concordance correlation coefficient (CCC) and Bland-Altman analyses. RESULTS: A BIA-based model was developed for FFM [FFM (kg) = -8.865 + 0.437 * Body Mass (kg) + 0.186 * Xc + 0.415 * stature (cm)2/R (R2 = 0.89, standard error of estimation = 2.38 kg)]. Results showed a substantial strength of agreement (CCC = 0.953), an r2 of 0.88 with a standard error of estimation equal to 2.31 kg, no mean bias (0.04 kg, p>0.05), low limits of agreement (ranged from -4.5 to 4.6 kg), and no trend (r = -0.170, p = 0.172). CONCLUSIONS: The present equation is the first to allow for a valid, accurate, and sport-specific assessment of FFM in male futsal players.

This study focuses on examining the role of leaders' Five-Factor Model (FFM) personality traits in their mentoring quality and mentees' job satisfaction. It has also examined how leaders' mentoring quality impacts mentees' job satisfaction, leading to their job performance at the workplace. The study used an explanatory research methodology to determine the cause-and-effect relationship between mentors' FFM personality characteristics, mentoring quality, and mentees' job satisfaction and job performance. The study was based on path-goal theory and the Big Five-Factor Model of personality characteristics, and a questionnaire was utilized to collect information on the model's constructs. Following the non-probability convenience sampling technique, the empirical data were collected from the academic and non-academic staff of public and private higher education institutions (HEIs) located within Pakistan on five-point Likert scale. The proposed hypotheses were tested by using PLS software. Four main conclusions were derived from this study. First, the leaders' openness to new experiences, agreeableness, and emotional stability substantially influenced the mentees' job satisfaction. Surprisingly, the leaders' conscientiousness and extraversion qualities did not affect the job satisfaction of the mentees. Second, the findings demonstrated that the openness to experience, conscientiousness, and extroversion has a considerable influence on leaders' mentoring quality, but agreeableness and emotional stability have a negligible impact. Third, the mentoring quality of the leader had a substantial effect on the job satisfaction and work performance of the mentees. Fourth, this study confirmed the belief that mentees' job satisfaction has a favorable influence on their job performance within the context of Pakistan's educational sector. The current study's findings provided valuable insights to the educational institutions about which personality traits they need to foster in their leaders, making them an excellent leader to enhance their mentees' job satisfaction and job performance within their organizational settings.

OBJECTIVES: The article presents the results of research on the Polish adaptation of the self-report questionnaires FFBI (Five Factor Borderline Inventory) and FFBI-SF (Five Factor Borderline Inventory - Short Form), which were developed to measure borderline personality traits. METHODS: The study, which consisted of two sessions, included a non-clinical sample of N = 527 adults (session 1: N = 527; Mage = 32.74 years; SDage = 10.12 years; 44% male; session 2: N = 315; Mage = 33.56 years; SDage = 10.71 years; 48.6% male). For convergent and divergent validity, Borderline Personality Disorder Checklist (BPD Checklist), Screening Instrument for Borderline Personality Disorder (SI-Bord), Borderline Personality Inventory (BPI) and Personality Inventory for ICD-11 (PiCD) were used. RESULTS: The results showed the Polish adaptations of the FFBI and FFBI-SF to be reliable and valid. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for FFBI/FFBI-SF scales scores ranged from 0.80/0.67 to 0.94/0.91 (Mα = 0.89/0.84). The twelve-factor structure of FFBI/FFBI-SF items was conformed. All FFBI/FFBI-SF traits are related to borderline facets measured by BPD Checklist, SI-Bord, BPI and pathological personality traits measured by PiCD in an expected way. CONCLUSIONS: Obtained data demonstrate satisfactory internal consistency, factorial validity, and convergent-discriminant validity of the Polish adaptations of FFBI and FFBI-SF in a non-clinical sample.

Background: Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is widely used to measure body composition but has not been adequately evaluated in infancy. Prior studies have largely been of poor quality, and few included healthy term-born offspring, so it is unclear if BIA can accurately predict body composition at this age. Aim: This study evaluated impedance technology to predict fat-free mass (FFM) among a large multi-ethnic cohort of infants from the United Kingdom, Singapore, and New Zealand at ages 6 weeks and 6 months (n = 292 and 212, respectively). Materials and methods: Using air displacement plethysmography (PEA POD) as the reference, two impedance approaches were evaluated: (1) empirical prediction equations; (2) Cole modeling and mixture theory prediction. Sex-specific equations were developed among ∼70% of the cohort. Equations were validated in the remaining ∼30% and in an independent University of Queensland cohort. Mixture theory estimates of FFM were validated using the entire cohort at both ages. Results: Sex-specific equations based on weight and length explained 75-81% of FFM variance at 6 weeks but only 48-57% at 6 months. At both ages, the margin of error for these equations was 5-6% of mean FFM, as assessed by the root mean squared errors (RMSE). The stepwise addition of clinically-relevant covariates (i.e., gestational age, birthweight SDS, subscapular skinfold thickness, abdominal circumference) improved model accuracy (i.e., lowered RMSE). However, improvements in model accuracy were not consistently observed when impedance parameters (as the impedance index) were incorporated instead of length. The bioimpedance equations had mean absolute percentage errors (MAPE) < 5% when validated. Limits of agreement analyses showed that biases were low (< 100 g) and limits of agreement were narrower for bioimpedance-based than anthropometry-based equations, with no clear benefit following the addition of clinically-relevant variables. Estimates of FFM from BIS mixture theory prediction were inaccurate (MAPE 11-12%). Conclusion: The addition of the impedance index improved the accuracy of empirical FFM predictions. However, improvements were modest, so the benefits of using bioimpedance in the field remain unclear and require further investigation. Mixture theory prediction of FFM from BIS is inaccurate in infancy and cannot be recommended.

BACKGROUND: Fat mass to fat-free mass ratio (FM/FFM) assesses the combined effect of the balance between fat mass and fat-free mass. AIMS: to evaluate the associations beetween FM/FFM and clinical outcomes in asthma and to compare clinical characteristics between individuals with higher and lower FM/FFM. METHODS: 128 participants with asthma underwent anthropometric, spirometry and bioelectrical impedance assessments. Physical activity in daily life (PADL) was assessed by the Actigraph for 7 days. Daily dose of inhaled medication, steps of pharmacological treatment, Asthma Control Questionnaire, Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale were also assessed. Participants were classified into two groups according to the 50th percentile of reference values for FM/FFM. RESULTS: Individuals with higher FM/FFM (n=75) used higher daily doses of inhaled corticosteroids, had worse lung function and fewer steps/day when compared to those with lower FM/FFM (n=53) (P≤0.021). Associations were found between absolute values of FM/FFM with lung function (FEV1 and FVC [liters]): R2=0.207 and 0.364;P<0.0001), and between the categories of lower or higher FM/FFM with steps of medication treatment (Cramer's V=0.218;P=0.016) and level of PADL (Cramer's V=0.236;P=0.009). The highest FM/FFM was a determining factor of physical inactivity (OR: 3.21;95%CI:1.17-8.78) and highest steps of pharmacological treatment (OR: 8.89;95%CI:1.23-64.08). CONCLUSION: Higher FM/FFM is significantly associated with worse clinical characteristics in individuals with asthma, such as higher doses of inhaled corticosteroids, worse lung function and fewer steps/day. Moreover, higher FM/FFM is a determining factor of physical inactivity and the highest steps of pharmacological treatment for asthma.

As a part of user experience, user emotion has rarely been studied in mobile libraries. Specifically, with the proposed emotional model in combination with the Pleasure-Arousal-Dominance (PAD) Emotion Model and the Five Factor Model (FFM), we evaluate user emotions on the mobile library's three IS features (i.e., user interface, interaction quality, and service environment). An experience procedure with three tasks has been designed to collect data. 50 participants were enrolled, and they were asked to fill in questionnaires right after the experience. The correlations among the PAD emotions were examined. Specifically, users have a low perception of pleasure (P), high perception of arousal (A), and low perception of dominance (D). However, these three emotional states were not always significantly correlated with each other. This study extends mobile library research by focusing on users' emotional experience. Specifically, the detailed PAD emotions have been examined. This study provides a new approach for application developers and managers to evaluate the user experience of an application.

Background & aims: This study was planned to evaluate triceps skinfold thickness (TSFT), mid-arm muscle circumference (MAMC) and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) for assessing body composition using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) (reference) and to predict fat mass (FM) and fat-free mass (FFM) in patients with cirrhosis. Methods: FM and FFM were assessed by using DEXA and BIA. Skin-fold calliper was used for measuring TSFT, and MAMC was calculated. Bland-Altman plot was used to determine agreement and linear regression analysis for obtaining equations to predict FM and FFM. Results: Patients with cirrhosis (n = 302, 241 male, age 43.7 ± 12.0 years) were included. Bland-Altman plot showed very good agreement between BIA and DEXA for the estimation of FM and FFM. Majority of patients were within the limit of agreement: FM (98%) and FFM (96.4%). BIA shows a positive correlation with DEXA:FM (r = 0.73, P ≤ 0.001) and FFM (r = 0.86, P ≤ 0.001). DEXA (FM and FFM) shows a positive correlation with TSFT (r = 0.69, P ≤ 0.01) and MAMC (r = 0.61, P ≤ 0.01). The mean difference between the observed and predicted value of FM and FFM by BIA in the developmental set was 0.01 and 0.05, respectively; whereas in the validation set, it was -0.13 and 0.86, respectively. The mean difference between the observed and predicted value of TSFT and MAMC in the developmental set was 0.43 and 0.07; whereas, in the validation set, it was 0.16 and 0.48, respectively. Conclusion: Anthropometry (TSFT and MAMC) and BIA are simple and easy to use and can be a substitute of DEXA for FM and FFM assessment in routine clinical settings in patients with cirrhosis.

Background: Glycogen storage disease type Ia (GSD Ia) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by deficiency of glucose-6-phosphatase (G6Pase), resulting in fasting hypoglycemia. Dietary treatment with provision of uncooked cornstarch (UCCS) or a novel modified cornstarch (Glycosade®) is available to treat hypoglycemia, yet choice of carbohydrate to achieve a desirable glycemic control is debated.13C-glucose breath test (13C-GBT) can be used to examine glucose metabolism from different carbohydrate sources via 13CO2 in breath. Objectives: Our objectives were: 1) establishing the use of a minimally invasive 13C-GBT to examine in vivo glucose metabolism in healthy adults, and 2) using 13C-GBT to measure utilization of the standard UCCS vs. Glycosade® in GSD Ia and healthy controls. Design: Experiment 1- Ten healthy adults (6F: 4 M, 22-33y) underwent 13C-GBT protocol twice as a proof-of-principle, once with oral isotope dose (glucose 75 g + [U-13C6] d-glucose 75 mg) and once without isotope (only glucose 75 g) to test sensitivity of natural 13C-enrichment. Breath samples were collected at baseline and every 20 min for 240 min. Rate of CO2 production was measured at 120 min using indirect calorimetry. Finger-prick blood glucose was measured using a glucometer hourly to test hypoglycemia (glucose <4 mmol/L). Experiment 2- Three GSD Ia (12y, 13y, and 28y) and six healthy controls (2F: 4 M, 10-32y) underwent 13C-GBT protocol twice: with UCCS or Glycosade® (based on their current prescribed dose 42-100 g) after ~4 h fast based on our GSD Ia patients with fasting tolerance. Results: Findings 1- Maximum 13C-enrichments occurred at 200 min without and with [U-13C6] d-glucose in all healthy adults, suggesting natural enrichment is sensitive for the 13C-GBT. Findings 2- Glycosade® utilization was lower than UCCS utilization in 12y and 13y GSD Ia, but was similar in the 28y GSD Ia. Conclusions: 13C-GBT is a novel minimally invasive functional test to examine glucose metabolism in GSD Ia, and test new products like Glycosade®, which has the potential to improve nutritional management and individualized carbohydrate supply in GSD.

BACKGROUND: Empathy plays the key role in the doctor - patient relationship. The research of empathy determinants plays an important role in formulating practical guidelines for the education of medical students. The aim of this study was to analyse personality characteristics of empathy profiles among students of medicine, with consideration of chief personality factors and their subdimensions according to the FFM model. METHODS: During workshops in Clinical Psychological Skills, 153 students (M = 57, F = 96; mean age 23 years) analysed their psychological functioning styles by examining their personality profiles and empathy indicators. Empathic Sensitiveness Scale (ESS) and Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R) were applied for this purpose. The analyses of empathy indicators were presented by means of cluster analysis. Variance analysis with post hoc Tukey-b test was performed for differences between clusters and to differentiate between personality factors and their components in empathy clusters. This study was approved by the Jagiellonian University Bioethics Committee (approval number: 1072.6120.175.2018 date: 28.06.2018). RESULTS: The first cluster included students who presented high empathetic concern for others, understood their perspective and needs characterised by medium level of Neuroticism, high levels of other dimensions The second group included students who could understand others very well, yet with lower tendency to react emotionally to suffering, characterised by medium level of Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, high Conscientiousness and low Agreeableness. The third cluster included students who react strongly to painful and unpleasant reactions of others, characterised by high Neuroticism and Agreeableness, low Extraversion. CONCLUSIONS: Each empathy profile is manifested in relations with patients in a specific way. Medical education in empathy holds great potential to reduce anxiety, stress, and burnout associated with the medical profession. Discussion of individual results with students, gives an opportunity to talk about how their empathy and personality characteristics may influence their everyday medical practice.
