RESUMO

Herpes zoster (HZ), a common disease in older adults, affects their quality of life. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the blog posts of HZ-related information on social media platforms to analyze the attitudes and behaviors of residents toward the dissemination of health information. This research used content analysis to focus on Weibo, a representative social media in China, to analyze the content of 1866 blog posts related to herpes zoster (HZ) and herpes zoster vaccine (HZV). According to the consistency test by Cohen's Kappa, four themes were identified: (a) sources, (b) tones, (c) epidemiological information, and (d) extended parallel process model elements. The findings showed that most information on Weibo came from non-professionals, with a neutral tone, and showed the invisible pain of HZ and the effectiveness of HZV through the two largest aspects of prevention and aged protection in epidemiological information. However, current blog posts treat the older adult as invisible individuals, failing to acknowledge them as recipients of the information. Additionally, the cost of the vaccine acts as an invisible economic barrier, contributing to the dissemination of incorrect information about folk remedies. This impacts the older adult's acceptance of health information related to HZV. Thus, the way to share health information with the older adult needs to be improved in the future, and attention should be paid to the transmission of incorrect information to improve their vaccination rates and awareness of health management.

RESUMO

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic disease. The prevalence of SSc ranges from 7 to 700 cases per million worldwide. Due to multiple organ involvement and constant inflammatory state, this group of patients presents an increased risk of infectious diseases. This paper aimed to gather the up-to-date evidence on vaccination strategies for patients with SSc and to be a useful tool for the prevention and management of infectious diseases. The authors conducted a scoping review in which each paragraph presents data on a specific vaccine's safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy. The work deals with the following topics: SARS-CoV-2, seasonal influenza, S. pneumoniae, HAV, HBV, HZV, N. meningitidis, H. influenzae, HPV, and diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis.

RESUMO

The World Health Organization (WHO), the United States (US) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC), and the immunization guidelines of many countries issue vaccination recommendations for adults and the elderly. However, the uptake of vaccination in these groups is generally low due to several reasons. The present study aimed to identify strategies implemented in Italy in unconventional settings to promote vaccination against influenza, pneumococcal, and herpes zoster virus (HZV) infections among these subjects, i.e., the at-risk adult population and the elderly. We conducted a literature review and a survey of experts. The literature search yielded seven strategies; all of these concerned influenza vaccination, while three also addressed pneumococcal and HZV vaccination. The survey of experts identified 15 strategies; 10 regarded influenza vaccination, while four regarded pneumococcal vaccination and one regarded HZV vaccination. Most of the strategies were implemented in hospital clinics and rest homes. Regarding influenza and pneumococcal vaccinations, the target population mainly comprised at-risk adults, while the elderly represented the main target population for HZV vaccination. Our results show that, in Italy, there are initiatives aimed at promoting vaccination in unconventional settings, but further efforts are required to assess their effectiveness and to further extend them.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The contract covering family doctor-centred health care (HzV) in Baden-Wuerttemberg supports and remunerates the deployment of specially trained health care assistants (VERAHs). It is as yet unknown to what extent VERAHs are actually deployed in HzV, what the focus of their work is, what changes and shifts in responsibility have resulted in the practice team, and whether they have relieved the burden on family doctors. METHOD: A full survey of all VERAHs in HzV practices in Baden-Wuerttemberg was conducted using a questionnaire (response rate over 32 %, N = 294). The questions aimed to gather information on how often and where VERAHs were deployed and on observed changes in their fields of responsibility. The family doctors employing VERAHs also received a questionnaire containing questions related to the changes observed, and additional questions on the delegation of responsibilities to VERAHs. RESULTS: To an increasing extent, VERAHs take on responsibilities that directly involve the patient, such as home visits agreed on with the doctor, vaccination and drug management, wound management and case management. Thus they take on tasks traditionally reserved for doctors. Both family doctors and VERAHs said that patient health care has improved and that the use of VERAHs helps doctors save time. CONCLUSIONS: The deployment of VERAHs in family doctor-centred health care leads to the redistribution of responsibilities in the practice and thus relieves physician burden. Chronically ill patients benefit from continuous care and an additional contact person. Health care assistants benefit from new career options.
