OBJECTIVE: Rotator cuff calcific tendinitis (RCCT) is a benign but incapacitating condition and in some patients it is the cause of chronic debilitating pain and functional disability. We aimed to reveal the short-term effects of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on clinical and sonographic parameters in patients with symptomatic RCCT. METHOD: This prospective randomized controlled study analyzed 76 painful shoulders of 68 patients aged 18-75 years, with over 3 months of shoulder pain and where RCCT was confirmed sonographically. Patients in the LLLT group (received 5 LLLT sessions per week and home exercises for 5 days/week for 3 weeks) and the control group (received home exercises, 5 days/week for 3 weeks) were assessed clinically and sonographically just before and after treatment, recording pain intensity, range of motion (ROM), shoulder functional status, location (supraspinatus/infraspinatus, subscapularis), number and degree of calcification. Degree of calcification was determined with ultrasound and classified by the Bianchi-Martinoli classification. The LLLT was applied to the calcified areas marked under ultrasound guidance. RESULTS: Both groups showed statistically significant improvements in ROM, pain intensity, shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI) pain/disability/total, and degree of calcification after treatment. No significant change was achieved for calcification in the control group. Considering the change values, improvements in abduction, extension, pain intensity, SPADI pain/disability/total, calcification number, and calcification degree parameters were found to be statistically significantly better in the LLLT group than in the control group. CONCLUSION: Adding LLLT to the home program in treatment of symptomatic RCCT outperformed the home program alone, reducing the number and severity of calcifications, improving pain and disability.

Androgenetic alopecia, the most common cause of hair loss affecting both men and women, is typically treated using pharmaceutical options, such as minoxidil and finasteride. While these medications work for many individuals, they are not suitable options for all. To date, the only non-pharmaceutical option that the United States Food and Drug Administration has cleared as a treatment for androgenetic alopecia is low-level laser therapy (LLLT). Numerous clinical trials utilizing LLLT devices of various types are available. However, a myriad of other physical treatments for this form of hair loss have been reported in the literature. This review evaluated the effectiveness of microneedling, pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy, low-level laser therapy (LLLT), fractional laser therapy, and nonablative laser therapy for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (AGA). It also explores the potential of multimodal treatments combining these physical therapies. The majority of evidence in the literature supports LLLT as a physical therapy for androgenetic alopecia. However, other physical treatments, such as nonablative laser treatments, and multimodal approaches, such as PEMF-LLLT, seem to have the potential to be equally or more promising and merit further exploration.

To study the efficacy of low-level laser therapy in the management of temporomandibular joint arthralgia. Design Interventional study (pre-post study), Setting Meenakshi Medical College And Hospital, Research Institute. Subjects 50 patients with temporomandibular joint arthralgia were evaluated for pain, mouth opening and clicking sound while mouth opening before and after treatment. Method Patients are subjected to undergo low-level laser therapy with Infrared and red rays with a therapeutic dosage ranging from 8 J/cm2 to 15 J/cm2 up to 3-5 sessions for a month each session lasts for 15-20 min. The patients are to be followed up regularly after 1, 3, 6 and 8 months in the study.The study measured the range of mouth opening in patients before and after undergoing low-level laser therapy. Before treatment, the range of mouth opening was from 2.78 to 3.97 cm, with a mean value of 2.78 cm and a standard deviation of 0.22. After treatment, the range of mouth opening was from 2.78 to 3.97 cm, with a mean value of 3.97 cm and a standard deviation of 0.24. The study also measured the VAS score for pain, with a mean and standard deviation of 7.9 ± 0.73 before treatment and 0.88 ± 0.718 after treatment. There was a significant difference between the pretreatment and post-treatment VAS scores, with a P-value of 0.05. Low-level laser therapy is an effective non invasive treatment modality for temporomandibular joint arthralgia. The patients who underwent this procedure had symptomatic relief and no remissions were observed.

BACKGROUND: Low-level Laser Therapy (LLLT) has demonstrated its potential in promoting fiber matrix maturation, collagen synthesis, and fibroblast proliferation, contributing to tissue regeneration. Our study aimed to investigate the impact of LLLT on collagen type I synthesis, cell proliferation, and viability in human ligament fibroblasts derived from the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). METHODS: Tissue samples were obtained from individuals undergoing arthroscopic ACL reconstruction surgery. Primary human fibroblasts were isolated, and immunohistochemical assays confirmed their characteristics. LLLT at 850 nm was administered in three groups: Low dose (1.0 J/cm²), High dose (5.0 J/cm²), and Control (0.0 J/cm²). Cell viability was calculated using a membrane integrity assay, proliferation was determined by automated counting, and collagen type I concentration in cell culture was measured using an immunoassay. RESULTS: Fibroblasts showed decreased viability after low and high doses of LLLT, increased proliferation at the low dose, and increased collagen synthesis at the high dose on day 10 for both sexes after treatment. CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated that LLLT may improve the early ligament healing process by increasing cell proliferation at the low dose and enhancing collagen type I synthesis at the high dose in human ligament fibroblasts.

Introduction: Diabetes is a highly prevalent disease worldwide. Despite routine treatments, there is no effective treatment approach for patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). A new approach to reduce complications and control DFU is low-level laser therapy (LLLT). In the present study, we evaluated the therapeutic effects of LLLT on the symptoms of DFU patients. Methods: Sixty diabetic patients with DFU were included in this randomized clinical trial and were randomly allocated into two groups of laser (n=30) and control (n=30) with signed written consent. The LLLT group underwent visible and infra-red laser therapy and conventional medical treatment, while the control group received only conventional medical treatment. The total laser irradiation sessions of the patients were 20 sessions, (three sessions a week) and each session lasted for 30 minutes over the entire surface of the wound. The power density per session for each laser was calculated to be 35.65 mW/cm2 with an energy density of 64.17 J/cm2. Results: The mean area of ulcers in the LLLT group reduced significantly (P<0.001) from 441.7±365.5 mm2 before LLLT to 163.9±213.9 mm2 from the baseline up to the last session of LLLT, indicating a 62.99% reduction in mean ulcer area. In the control group, the mean ulcer area did not change significantly. Wagner's classification of the patients in the LLLT group reduced to lower grades significantly (P<0.01), while the classification moved towards higher grades in the control group (P<0.08). Conclusion: In this study, we showed the effectiveness of LLLT in the reduction of the surface and depth of DFUs. The results documented that patients experienced significant improvements in the healing of their foot ulcers after laser therapy. It is recommended that the LLLT be considered as a non-invasive method for the treatment of DFU patients.

Introduction: Numerous strategies have been investigated for addressing recurrent implantation failure (RIF) and enhancing endometrial receptivity, yet agreement on the optimal intervention remains elusive. Our investigation endeavors to assess the effect of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on pregnancy outcomes in individuals who have undergone a minimum of three unsuccessful embryo transfer cycles (ET). Methods: In our randomized single-blinded clinical trial, we enrolled thirty females with a medical history of RIF who were eligible for frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET). Through a random allocation sequence, the participants were divided into two groups. The LLLT was performed one cycle before blastocyst transfer in 15 cases using a New Age BIOLASER device (New Age Co., Italy) with a 900-milliwatt power output and an 850-nm wavelength. The irradiation sessions were conducted transabdominal on the hypogastric area. The considered outcomes were biochemical pregnancy, identified by a positive blood pregnancy test, and clinical pregnancy, confirmed through visualization of the gestational sac using ultrasonography. Results: The mean age of the subjects was 34.17 years, and they had undergone three to seven previous embryo transfers. There was no significant difference in basic characteristics between the group undergoing laser treatment and the control group. However, the laser-treated group exhibited elevated rates of both biochemical and clinical pregnancies compared to the control group (46.7% vs. 33.3%; P==0.710 and 33.3% vs. 20.0%; P=0.682 respectively). Conclusion: To our knowledge, this study represents the first single-blinded randomized clinical trial to assess the effectiveness of LLLT pretreatment in individuals with RIF. The findings propose that LLLT may potentially enhance biochemical and clinical pregnancy rates among RIF patients.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the current evidence comparing low level to high level laser therapy to reveal any superiorities in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. METHODS: Five databases were searched till September 2022 to obtain relevant RCTs comparing high intensity and low-level laser therapies in the management of musculoskeletal disorders. Two authors assessed the methodological quality of the included studies using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database scale and meta-analysis was conducted for studies that showed homogeneity. RESULTS: Twelve articles were included in this systematic review with a total population of 704 participants across various musculoskeletal pathologies including tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic non-specific low back pain, knee arthritis, plantar fasciitis, and subacromial impingement. There were no statistical differences between the two interventions in pain, electrophysiological parameters, level of disability, quality of life, postural sway or pressure algometer, however, Low level laser therapy showed superiority in increasing grip strength compared to high intensity laser therapy while results were significant in favour of high intensity laser therapy regarding long head of biceps diameter and cross sectional area, supraspinatus thickness and echogenicity and acromio-humeral distance. CONCLUSION: The current literature suggests no superiority of both types of laser therapy in musculoskeletal disorders, however, more RCTs with larger sample size are required to reach a definitive conclusion regarding the superiority of either form of laser therapy in musculoskeletal disorders.

We aimed to determine the efficacy of the various available oral, topical, and procedural treatment options for hair loss in individuals with androgenic alopecia. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, a systematic review of the National Library of Medicine was performed. Overall, 141 unique studies met our inclusion criteria. We demonstrate that many over the counter (e.g. topical minoxidil, supplements, low-level light treatment), prescription (e.g. oral minoxidil, finasteride, dutasteride), and procedural (e.g. platelet-rich plasma, fractionated lasers, hair transplantation) treatments successfully promote hair growth, highlighting the superiority of a multifaceted and individualized approach to management.

AIM: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of photobiomodulation therapy (PBM) in enhancing bone integration with dental implants. METHOD: PubMed, ScienceDirect, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Google Scholar were searched. Studies assessing PBM effectiveness with defined intervention/control groups were included, while those lacking specified laser types, involving severe maxillofacial defects or surgery, and not reporting outcomes related to dental implant osseointegration post-PBM therapy were excluded. The studies' risk of bias was assessed using Robvis for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and ROBINS-I for non-RCTs. The meta-analysis was conducted utilizing a random-effects model at a significance level of 0.01. RESULTS: The study reviewed 26 papers involving 571 patients undergoing dental implant procedures with PBM/Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) or placebo/control. Implant stability quotients (ISQ) analysis showed a non-significant difference (p = 0.06, mean difference: 1.02, 95 % CI: 0.28 to 1.75, I2=28 %), while the Periotest method indicated significant improvement in stability (p < 0.01, mean difference: -0.51, 95 % CI: -0.78 to -0.24, I2=71 %). PBM resulted in a significant bone density increase (p < 0.01, mean difference: 26, 95 % CI: 6.93 to 45.06, I2=91 %), but marginal bone loss showed no significant difference (p = 0.11, mean difference: 0.00, 95 % CI: -0.06 to 0.05, I2=45 %). Implant survival rate did not significantly differ (p = 0.73, mean difference: 1.56, 95 % CI: 0.38 to 6.46, I2=0 %). Most studies raised concerns regarding randomization. CONCLUSION: PBM could improve implant stability, as assessed with Periotest, and increase bone density, enhancing osseointegration. However, implant stability assessed with ISQ, marginal bone loss, and implant survival rate were comparable between the study groups.

Background: Oral graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is characterized by mucosal lesions, salivary gland dysfunction etc., accompanied by pain and oral dysfunction. The efficacy of photobiomodulation (PBM) in managing pain and inflammation has been demonstrated. PBM has been applied in oral GVHD and is regarded as a potent adjunctive therapy. Objective: To review the application of PBM for oral GVHD and summarize its biological mechanisms and recommended parameters. Materials and Methods: The article provides an overview of the therapeutic effects of PBM in oral GVHD cases. It analyzes the biological mechanisms from different aspects and explores the potential prospects of PBM, and appropriate parameters and frequency for GVHD are recommended. Conclusions: The efficacy of PBM in oral GVHD has been demonstrated through symptom alleviation and function improvement. It is recommended as an adjuvant therapy for oral GVHD. However, further research is required to explore optimal devices, parameters, and potential complications associated with using PBM in oral GVHD.

The effect of simultaneous application of tert-butyl hydroperoxide (tBHP) and polychromatic near-infrared (NIR) radiation on bovine blood was examined to determine whether NIR light decreases the susceptibility of red blood cells (RBCs) to oxidative stress. The study assessed various exposure methods, wavelength ranges, and optical filtering types. Continuous NIR exposure revealed a biphasic response in cell-free hemoglobin changes, with antioxidative effects observed at low fluences and detrimental effects at higher fluences. Optimal exposure duration was identified between 60 s and 15 min. Protective effects were also tested across wavelengths in the range of 750-1100 nm, with all of them reducing hemolysis, notably at 750 nm, 875 nm, and 900 nm. Comparing broadband NIR and far-red light (750 nm) showed no significant difference in hemolysis reduction. Pulse-dosed NIR irradiation allowed safe increases in radiation dose, effectively limiting hemolysis at higher doses where continuous exposure was harmful. These findings highlight NIR photobiomodulation's potential in protecting RBCs from oxidative stress and will be helpful in the effective design of novel medical therapeutic devices.

The evidence of brain-gut interconnections in Alzheimer's disease (AD) opens novel avenues for the treatment of a pathology for which no definitive treatment exists. Gut microbiota and bacterial translocation may produce peripheral inflammation and immune modulation, contributing to brain amyloidosis, neurodegeneration, and cognitive deficits in AD. The gut microbiota can be used as a potential therapeutic target in AD. In particular, photobiomodulation (PBM) can affect the interaction between the microbiota and the immune system, providing a potential explanation for its restorative properties in AD-associated dysbiosis. PBM is a safe, non-invasive, non-ionizing, and non-thermal therapy that uses red or near-infrared light to stimulate the cytochrome c oxidase (CCO, complex IV), the terminal enzyme of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, resulting in adenosine triphosphate synthesis. The association of the direct application of PBM to the head with an abscopal and a systemic treatment through simultaneous application to the abdomen provides an innovative therapeutic approach to AD by targeting various components of this highly complex pathology. As a hypothesis, PBM might have a significant role in the therapeutic options available for the treatment of AD.

BACKGROUND: Skin aging and photoaging is a process that may appear at a relatively early age, causing an aesthetic problem. Common signs of skin aging include wrinkles, dyspigmentation, and decreased elasticity. AIM: Aim of this article is to study the effectiveness and safety of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) for skin rejuvenation. METHODS: Thirty Syrian female patients aged 25-50 participated in this study and were diagnosed with moderate to severe melasma and wrinkles. The patients were divided into two groups and received LLLT with a wavelength of 660 nm emitting a continuous wave. The power density and dose used were 15.6 mW/cm2, and 3 J/cm2 respectively, and the laser effective area was 32 cm2. The evaluation was done before, during, and after 12 treatment sessions, based on photographs, in addition to the modified Melasma Area Severity Index (MASI), Pinch test, and Fitzpatrick's classification of facial wrinkling at baseline. RESULTS: Comparing before, and after treatment, and between the two groups, revealed a significant improvement in skin rejuvenation, with a statistical significance (p < 0.05). Additional outcome measures included assessments of patient satisfaction scores, and no adverse effects or re-pigmentation were reported. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that LLLT may be a useful and safe therapeutic option in treating melasma, skin elasticity, and wrinkle improvement, which we advised to be integrated into treatment, and follow-up programs in cosmetics and dermatology.

OBJECTIVE: To prove the effectiveness of the low-intensity laser radiation application in the treatment of wounds of different origin. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The clinical study involved 110 persons, divided into 55 subjects in both the study and control groups. The patients of the study group were exposed to the long-wave short-pulse neodymium laser immediately and within 35 days after interventions with a skin incision using it, in a way that wound treated with laser received low-level laser therapy. The control group patients' wounds were treated with standard methods by the means of topical drugs corresponding to the clinical manifestations of the wound process in each particular case. The study was carried out in the hospital of the department of maxillofacial and plastic surgery of the dental complex of the «Russian University of Medicine¼ from 2019 to 2022, and further conservative treatment was conducted in the department of dermatology and cosmetology of the University Hospital of the Medical Graduate School (Institute) of the RSSU. All wounds were classified into three groups for the convenience of systematization and formation of a generalized treatment protocol for postoperative surgical wounds. RESULTS: The objectivity and optimality of the chosen by us actions were confirmed in the conducted work. The formed scars were visually assessed on the POSAS scale at the end of the treatment by patients and 4 independent doctors, as well as each scar was visually assessed by four independent doctors and patients. At the end of the study we formed and proposed an algorithm for the treatment of surgical wounds of various origins. The parameters of the Aerolase Neo Light Pod neodymium laser for the treatment of patients with different types of skin wounds were clinically determined. Experimentally proven properties of the Aerolase Neo Light Pod neodymium laser on accelerating the healing process of surgical wounds through photobiomodulation mechanism support their regeneration with the formation of negligible normotrophic scars, as well as reduce the length of patients' treatment in surgical hospitals, as compared to patients receiving standard external drugs.

BACKGROUND: Arterial hypertension is a systemic condition that affects about 35% of the world population. The drugs that are used for its control can produce hyposalivation. This work evaluated the effect of photobiomodulation on salivary flow rate, salivary pH, total protein concentration, and calcium concentration in individuals using antihypertensive medications. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 41 subjects were randomly allocated in one of two groups: control (placebo) and photobiomodulation. The subjects had their salivary glands (20 sites) irradiated with a laser emitting at 808 nm, 4J/site once a week for 4 weeks and had their salivary flow measured before and after the whole treatment. RESULTS: The intragroup analysis (before and after treatment) shows a significant difference for both non-stimulated and stimulated salivary flow in the photobiomodulation group (p = 0.0007 and p = 0.0001, respectively). Comparing the placebo with the photobiomodulation group, significant differences were found for both non-stimulated (p = 0.0441) and stimulated salivary flow (p = 0.0441) after the treatment. No significant differences were found in pH, total protein concentration, calcium concentration. CONCLUSION: Despite the usage of drugs that influence the nervous system and typically result in a reduction of saliva production, photobiomodulation demonstrated a remarkable ability to enhance saliva production by a significant 75%.

Background/Objectives: Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is one of the most common oral mucosal lesions and a very debilitating lesion, especially in paediatric and adolescent patients. The current pharmacotherapy offers a pain relief but not without side effects, and therefore photobiomodulation (PBM) can be an alternative therapy. To the authors' best knowledge, no published study has explored the efficacy of λ 980 nm laser PBM in the management of all RAS subtypes in paediatric and adolescent patients, and therefore, this prospective observational clinical study was conducted to bridge this gap by evaluating λ 980 nm laser PBM efficacy in symptomatic RAS management in paediatric and adolescent patients. The objectives were to evaluate (1) pain intensity alleviation; (2) wound healing rate; (3) wound size closure; (4) a complete resolution; (5) evidence of recurrence; and (6) patients' treatment satisfaction. Methods: The study's variables were assessed at the following timepoints: T0: pre-treatment; T1: immediately after first PBM session; T2: 5 hours (h) post first PBM session (via telephone call); T3: immediately after second PBM session (three days post first PBM session); T4: three-day follow-up (after complete PBM treatments); T5: two-week follow-up; and T6: three-month follow-up. The following PBM dosimetry and treatment protocols were employed: λ 980 nm; 300 mW; 60 s; 18 J; CW; flattop beam profile of 1 cm2 spot size; 18 J/cm2; and twice-a-week irradiation (72 h interval). Results: At T1, significant immediate pain intensity relief was reported. 33.33% recorded "4" and 66.67% reported "5" on the quantitative numeric pain intensity scale (NPIS), and this continued to improve significantly (83.33%) at T2. All the subjects reported "0" on the NPIS at T3, T4, T5 and T6. There was a significant reduction in the lesion surface area (>50% complete healing) at T3 compared to T0. Complete healing (100%) with no evidence of scarring and lesion recurrence observed at T4, T5 and T6. Very good patients' satisfaction was reported at all timepoints. Conclusions: This is the first report demonstrating λ980 nm efficacy in all RAS subtype management in paediatric and adolescent patients with a 3-month follow-up, whereby its PBM dosimetry and treatment protocols were effective from scientific and practical standpoints, and hence multicentre RCTs with large data are warranted to validate its reproducibility and to enrich the knowledge of PBM application in all RAS subtypes.

BACKGROUND: Concentrated growth factor (CGF) injection has proven effective in treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The primary mechanism of CGF in treating AGA is thought to be the CD34+ stem cells and platelets-associated growth factors being injected into the scalp. CGF efficacy in treating AGA may rely on the activation level of these stem cells and platelets. The 640 nm laser is a United States Food and Drug Administration approved AGA treatment that activates follicle stem cells. Therefore, we hypothesize that pretreating CGF with a 640 nm laser may further activate CD34+ stem cells and platelets, thereby improving the efficacy of CGF in treating AGA. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate whether 640 nm laser pretreated CGF (640CGF) has a greater effect in treating AGA than 640 nm laser non-pretreated CGF (N640CGF) and evaluate whether 640 nm laser pretreatment changed CD34+ cell percentage. METHODS: This study enrolled 10 patients (8 male, 2 female) with AGA aged 18-60 years who received CGF injections. The 640CGF group was pretreated with a 640 nm laser at an energy density of 4 J/cm2, with a 30 cm irradiation distance for 30 min. Half of the scalp was treated with 640CGF, whereas the other half was treated with N640CGF. The injection was prepared by a doctor who did not know which blood tube had been pretreated. The treatment efficacy was evaluated using a trichoscope 1 month after injection. RESULTS: All 10 (100%) patients participated in the follow-up visit, and a higher quantity of new hairs was observed on the side injected with 640CGF than N640CGF (p = 0.019). Additionally, fewer malnourished hairs were observed on the 640CGF pretreated side (p = 0.015). No serious adverse events were reported. CONCLUSIONS: A higher percentage of CD34+ stem cells and improved efficacy in AGA treatment could be observed with CGF prepared from 640 nm laser-pretreated blood.

Photobiomodulation (PBM), previously known as low-level laser light therapy, represents a non-invasive form of phototherapy that utilizes wavelengths in the red light (RL, 620-700 nm) portion of the visible light (VL, 400-700 nm) spectrum and the near-infrared (NIR, 700-1440 nm) spectrum. PBM is a promising and increasingly used therapy for the treatment of various dermatologic and non-dermatologic conditions. Photons from RL and NIR are absorbed by endogenous photoreceptors including mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase (COX). Activation of COX leads to the following changes: modulation of mitochondrial adenosine triphosphate (ATP), generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and alterations in intracellular calcium levels. The associated modulation of ATP, ROS and calcium levels promotes the activation of various signaling pathways (e.g., insulin-like growth factors, phosphoinositide 3-kinase pathways), which contribute to downstream effects on cellular proliferation, migration and differentiation. Effective PBM therapy is dependent on treatment parameters (e.g., fluence, treatment duration and output power). PBM is generally well-tolerated and safe with erythema being the most common and self-limiting adverse cutaneous effect.

The aim of the study was to investigate the impact of multiwave locked system (MLS M1) emitting synchronized laser radiation at 2 wavelength simultaneous (λ = 808 nm, λ = 905 nm) on the mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Human MSCs were exposed to MLS M1 system laser radiation with the power density 195-318 mW/cm2 and doses of energy 3-20 J, in continuous wave emission (CW) or pulsed emission (PE). After irradiation exposure in doses of energy 3 J, 10 J (CW, ƒ = 1000 Hz), and 20 J (ƒ = 2000 Hz), increased proliferation of MSCs was observed. Significant reduction of Fluo-4 Direct™ Ca2+ indicator fluorescence over controls after CW and PE with 3 J, 10 J, and 20 J was noticed. A decrease in fluorescence intensity after the application of radiation with a frequency of 2000 Hz in doses of 3 J, 10 J, and 20 J was observed. In contrary, an increase in DCF fluorescence intensity after irradiation with laser radiation of 3 J, 10 J, and 20 J (CW, ƒ = 1000 Hz and ƒ = 2000 Hz) was also shown. Laser irradiation at a dose of 20 J, emitted at 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz, and 3 J emitted at a frequency of 2000 Hz caused a statistically significant loss of MSC viability. The applied photobiomodulation therapy induced a strong pro-apoptotic effect dependent on the laser irradiation exposure time, while the application of a sufficiently high-energy dose and frequency with a sufficiently long exposure time significantly increased intracellular calcium ion concentration and free radical production by MSCs.

INTRODUCTION: Nowadays, a lot of body contouring devices and methods are introduced all over the world. The object of the present narrative review was to update and classify existing evidence on these methods and devices. METHODS: We searched databases including PubMed, Cochrane, and Google Scholar for 11 essential keywords, including cryolipolysis, high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), shock wave, low-level laser therapy (LLLT), radiofrequency (RF), capacitive resistive electrical transfer (TECAR), high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM), electromyostimulation (EMS), carboxytherapy, mesotherapy, and acupuncture and their abbreviations, in addition to obesity, overweight, cellulite, subcutaneous fat, and body contouring. RESULTS: Totally 193 references were used in 11 main topics. CONCLUSION: In order to help physicians with finding the best evidence in different methods, the data were summarised in 11 topics. Furthermore, FDA-approved devices, side effects and common protocols were described in each section.
