INTRODUCTION: Pigmented fungiform papillae of the tongue is a benign condition frequent in dark skin patients. It usually appears in the second or third decade of life, and it has been reported as autosomal dominant inheritance pattern. The diagnosis is clinical, but dermoscopy could be helpful: a classical rose petal pattern is observed. The pathogenesis is unknown, and no treatments are effective. CASE REPORT: We report a case of a 15-year-old girl with a pigmented fungiform papillae and a compatible dermatoscopy pattern. CONCLUSIONS: Knowing the existence of this entity and its characteristic dermoscopy, avoids additional invasive medical test. We have to know this entity because it is a variant of normality.


INTRODUCCIÓN: La pigmentación de las papilas fungiformes linguales es una condición benigna y relativamente frecuente en pacientes con piel oscura. Suele aparecer en la segunda o tercera décadas de la vida y se han descrito casos de herencia autosómica dominante. El diagnóstico es clínico, pero la dermatoscopia es de gran ayuda: presenta un patrón clásico en pétalos de rosa. La patogénesis se desconoce y no hay tratamientos efectivos. CASO CLÍNICO: Reportamos el caso de una niña de 15 años con pigmentación de las papilas fungiformes y con patrón dermatoscópico compatible. CONCLUSIONES: Conocer la existencia de esta afección y su característica dermatoscopia evita realizar pruebas invasivas adicionales, ya que se trata una variante de la normalidad.

Introducción y objetivos: Nuestro objetivo fue investigar si el síndrome de Sjögren (SS) tenía hallazgos distintivos en la microscopia confocal de la lengua de una manera no invasiva. Materiales y métodos: Este estudio retrospectivo de casos y controles evaluó los hallazgos de la microscopia confocal de córnea y lengua de los ojos derechos de 25 pacientes con ojo seco con deficiencia acuosa y 12 voluntarios sanos sin hallazgos de ojo seco. Hubo un total de 14 pacientes diagnosticados con ojo seco asociado a SS (SSDE), mientras que 11 casos fueron evaluados como ojo seco no Sjögren (NSDE). Resultados: Se observó una diferencia significativa en el recuento de células dendríticas a nivel del nervio subbasal corneal entre los grupos SSDE y NSDE (p=0,018). En el grupo SSDE, las imágenes de microscopia confocal de células inflamatorias dendritiformes hiperreflectantes en la mucosa de la lengua estaban a favor de la inflamación. Sin embargo, estos hallazgos no se encontraron en pacientes con NSDE o en controles. Conclusiones: Este estudio mostró que la microscopia confocal proporcionó una evaluación no invasiva de las células inflamatorias en la lengua de los pacientes con SS.(AU)

SUMMARY: The geese's tongue filiform papillae are particularly long, and exhibit the same morphology of a tooth, evoking the lingual teeth of several fishes. In adult animals, they contain numerous mechanical Herbst's corpuscles but no taste buds. In the embryo, they appear since stage 38 and acquire their definitive shape between stages 38 and 42. They express several proteins associated with mammalian tooth development (BMP4, β-catenin, SHH, PITX2, PAX9), also known to be linked to parrot's pseudoteeth and goose's denticulations development. Neurofilaments are early present in the papillae primordia, and appear particularly numerous in adult papillae. Our results suggest that these papillae constitute a mechanical organ with a « tooth shape » derived from ancestral odontodes, whose development is controlled by numerous genes involved in classical odontogenesis.


Las papilas filiformes de la lengua de los gansos son particularmente largas y exhiben la morfología de un diente, evocando los dientes linguales presentes en varios peces. En los animales adultos, contienen numerosos corpúsculos de Herbst mecánicos, aunque una ausencia de papilas gustativas. En el embrión, aparecen a partir del estadio 38 y adquieren su forma definitiva entre los estadios 38 y 42. Expresan varias proteínas asociadas al desarrollo dentario de los mamíferos (BMP4, β-catenina, SHH, PITX2, PAX9), también conocidas por estar asociadas al desarrollo de pseudodientes en el loro y denticulaciones en el ganso. Los neurofilamentos están presentes tempranamente en los primordios de las papilas y aparecen particularmente numerosos en las papilas adultas. Nuestros resultados sugieren que estas papilas constituyen un órgano mecánico con «forma de diente» derivado de odontoides ancestrales, cuyo desarrollo está controlado por numerosos genes implicados en la odontogénesis clásica.

La hemorragia producida por lesión de la arteria lingual en la base de la lengua por cirugías o por tumores es infrecuente. La mayor frecuencia en la indicación de abordajes transorales para tratar diferentes patologías que afectan la orofaringe requiere que el equipo quirúrgico tenga experiencia en el manejo de esta complicación. La ligadura de la arteria lingual en el cuello es una técnica quirúrgica muy eficaz para solucionar la hemorragia, pero es importante conocer las posibles variantes anatómicas que puede tener la arteria en su trayecto cervical. Debido a su baja incidencia se propone como objetivo describir dos casos clínicos de pacientes que tuvieron hemorragias graves por lesión de la arteria lingual en la base de la lengua, producidas por daño quirúrgico y por erosión por tumor. The bleeding caused by injury to the lingual artery at the base of the tongue due to surgery or tumors is infrequent. The increased frequency in the indication of transoral approaches to treat different pathologies affecting the oropharynx requires the surgical team to have experience in managing this complication. Ligation of the lingual artery in the neck is a very effective surgical technique to solve the bleeding; however, it is essential to be aware of the possible anatomical variants the artery may have in its cervical trajectory. Due to its low incidence, we propose to describe two clinical cases of patients who had severe bleeding due to a lesion of the lingual artery at the base of the tongue, produced by surgical damage and erosion due to a tumor. Resumen El estudio se cuestiona sobre un abordaje fructífero en el estudio de los efectos de la modalidad lingüística (de señas versus oral) en la organización de la memoria semántica. Para responder la pregunta de investigación, un aspecto central es definir criterios y procedimientos capaces de distinguir entre los factores transportados por la modalidad lingüística de los que le son propios. Entre los primeros, se encuentran la edad de exposición a la lengua natural y su distribución funcional, etaria o geográfica. Entre los aspectos propios de la modalidad se incluyen la iconicidad y el grado de concreción/abstracción de las piezas léxicas. Se sugiere centrarse en el uso de dicho gradiente para evocar dominios conceptuales. Si lo concreto/abstracto es un continuo, entonces hay que preguntarse qué forma de organización es predominante en el léxico mental de las poblaciones señantes u oyentes y qué factores modulan el perfil de esa organización.


Abstract The efforts to understand the relationship of the meaning of a lexical piece to the object to which it refers, the relationship between the lexical pieces and the concepts, and the understanding of the meanings shared between two speakers who use the same lexical pieces have all constituted major problems for the semantic memory models. According to contemporary literature, perceptual-motor, linguistic, and social information have different weights in the formation of concepts, whether concrete or abstract, stored in the aforementioned memory. Regardless of the models developed so far, it is interesting to note that semantic knowledge is represented by various ways of relating the concepts and the types of relationships between them. In this context, studies in sign languages and comparative studies between spoken and sign languages are scarce. Thus, little is known about the effect of linguistic modality on the semantic networks. After all, the theory on semantic networks and norms for the production of features has been grounded on theories of language and its processing adjusted to spoken languages. As the incorporation of the sign language and the Deaf population has shown in other psycholinguistic and linguistic topics, the importance of including these languages and populations, and comparatives with spoken languages, might increase the explanatory power of the theory to account for the universal and contextual aspects of language and its processing. In this effort, there is a latent risk: the linguistic modality can be only a vehicle for more well-known or studied cross-modal variables (e. g., age of acquisition, functional distribution of language, size of the available lexicon, etc.). If it is considered that languages are not stored together, but similar processes can occur in them, it is essential to find out what may be a singular feature of each modality (spoken versus sign) that might ground differentiated processes. Considering the high iconicity of the sign languages and the possibility of a high concreteness of the lexical pieces in the sign language as distinctive features -not collapsible into well-known variables such as the aforementioned-, this article suggests a careful approach to avoid the aforementioned risk in the study of the effects of the linguistic modality (sign versus oral) in the organization of semantic memory. Since perceptual-motor and social information are the main sources of iconicity, a balanced instrument is necessary in the evocation of perceptual-motor, social, and linguistic information. Repeated free word association tasks seem like an appropriate paradigm for a suggested approach. The reasons for this are that, by not censoring the types of response, then free association tasks allow capturing all kinds of concepts (concrete or abstract), all kinds of semantic relationships/organization (paradigmatic versus thematic) and all kinds of processes (comparison versus interaction). This type of task therefore makes it possible to collect meanings related to linguistic information and non-linguistic experience because affective and experiential information is accessible by doing the task in different repetitions. The approach and the tool are exemplified by an ongoing comparative study between Deaf signing and hearing populations. The partial findings of this study also serve to focus on the expected effects of the difference in iconicity and the level of concreteness/abstractness of the lexical pieces of each linguistic modality; namely, the differences between an abstract and a concrete conceptualization of the conceptual domains. Taxonomic and introspective labels might appear as indicative of paradigmatic relationships, of a taxonomic organization, and of underlying comparison processes. On the other hand, the situational and entity labels, indicative of syntagmatic relationships, of a thematic organization and of underlying interaction processes, might suggest a predominantly concrete organization.

Este estudio analiza la sensibilidad de los cuestionarios CDI breves para medir el efecto del grado de exposición a la lengua en el tamaño del léxico de niños bilingües en euskera o lengua vasca. Además, compara la capacidad predictiva de tres factores asociados a la cantidad de exposición a la lengua: el input relativo, el perfil lingüístico de los padres y la lengua de comunicación interparental. Los datos de 2.098 niños bilingües (8-49 meses) obtenidos con las versiones breves del CDI vasco (CDI-1vb, CDI-2vb y CDI-3 v) evidenciaron: a) la sensibilidad de los tres instrumentos para medir el efecto del grado de exposición en el léxico expresivo infantil; b) un efecto muy similar de los tres factores analizados, y c) un aumento gradual del tamaño del efecto, con la edad, que evoluciona desde la ausencia de efecto durante el primer año (8 a 15 meses), a un efecto pequeño durante el año siguiente (16-29 meses), para convertirse en grande entre los dos años y medio y los cuatro años (30-49 meses). Los resultados apuntan al perfil lingüístico de los padres y a la lengua de comunicación interparental como indicadores tan apropiados como el input, o incluso más, para medir la cantidad de exposición a la lengua de niños en edad preescolar, por lo que se recomienda la inclusión de estos dos factores en la evaluación del desarrollo léxico temprano bilingüe, muy especialmente, en el caso de lenguas minoritarias.(AU)


The current study analyses short Basque CDI questionnaires’ accuracy to measure the effect of the amount of exposure to the language on bilingual children's vocabulary size. Additionally, it compares the predictive ability of three variables related to the amount of exposure: relative input, language of parental communication and parents’ linguistic profile. Data of 2098 children (8–49 months) obtained with the short versions of the Basque CDI (CDI-1vb, CDI-2vb and CDI-3v) revealed (a) these three instruments’ sensibility to measure the effect of language exposure on children's expressive vocabulary, (b) a very similar effect size for the three variables, and (c) an increase in effect size with age: no effect at the age of 8–15 months, small at 16–29 months and large at the age of 30–49 months. Data suggests that parents’ linguistic profile and language of inter-parental communication are indicators equally suitable of preschool children's exposure to the language, or even more so, than input, and leads the authors to claim the inclusion of those factors in the assessment of young children's lexical development, especially in minority languages.(AU)

Executive functions are established as vital in learning, as well as in the development of psycholinguistic skills crucial to learning a second language. The present study analyzes relationships between variables linked to executive functioning and to academic achievement in English as a foreign language (EFL). The participants were 519 primary school students between the ages of 10 and 12. The results show a tendency to greater sustained and selective attention and consequently better attention control and concentration on task when academic achievement in English was higher. Our discriminant analysis verifies that sustained and selective attention, attention deficit, and concentration on task explain and predict group membership in EFL achievement groups (low, medium, and high achievement). It is important to plan activities to develop executive functioning, alongside the regular curriculum content, in order to improve learning and acquisition of psycholinguistic skills, the foundation for bilingualism or second-language learning.(AU)


Se constata la importancia de las funciones ejecutivas en el aprendizaje, así como en el desarrollo de habilidades psicolingüísticas cruciales para aprender un segundo idioma. En este estudio se analizan las relaciones entre variables vinculadas al funcionamiento ejecutiv y al rendimiento académico en lengua inglesa. Participaron 519 estudiantes de primaria de edades comprendidas entre 10 y 12 años. Los resultados evidencian la tendencia a una mayor atención sostenida y selectiva y en consecuencia un mejor control atencional y de concentración en la tarea cuando es mayor el rendimiento académico en lengua inglesa; el análisis discriminante efectuado verifica el carácter explicativo y predictivo de la atención sostenida y selectiva, el déficit atencional y la concentración en la tarea en la pertenencia de cada estudiante a los grupos (bajo, medio y alto) de rendimiento en dicha asignatura. Se constata la importancia de programar actuaciones para el desarrollo del funcionamiento ejecutivo en paralelo a las propiamente curriculares, para mejorar el aprendizaje y la adquisición de habilidades psicolingüísticas, base del bilingüismo o del aprendizaje de un segundo idioma.(AU)

Lobular capillary hemangioma or pyogenic granuloma is a benign non-neoplastic lesion that is mainly presented as a tissue growth in response to irritation or trauma. It is located on the skin or on the mucous membrane, with the oral mucosa being the most frequent, with the gingiva standing out, but also appearing in other places such as the lips, buccal mucosa, palate and tongue, the latter being a very unusual location. This is a report of the case of a pediatric patient who underwent a surgical procedure of frenotomy, and who subsequently presented a lesion due to trauma possibly as a consequence of local anes-thesia, which forced an excisional biopsy, the histopathological diagnosis being capillary lobular hemangioma or pyogenic granuloma. Likewise, a literature review of this type of pathology is presented, with emphasis on its location in the tongue.

Introducción y objetivo: En los cuidados paliativos, las afecciones de la boca son muy frecuentes e interfieren con la calidad de vida del paciente. La boca es un lugar que aún merece poca atención por parte de los profesionales de la salud. El objetivo del presente estudio es caracterizar los trastornos bucales en pacientes de cuidados paliativos, investigar estrategias farmacológicas y no farmacológicas y analizar su eficacia. Material y métodos: Estudio exploratorio, observacional y correlacional sobre trastornos bucales en pacientes hospitalizados en un servicio de cuidados paliativos en Portugal, entre el 6 de noviembre de 2019 y el 31 de julio de 2020. El instrumento de recolección de datos incluyó un cuestionario y consulta del expediente clínico de los enfermos. Resultados: En este estudio (n = 46), el grupo de edad más representativo fue el de 71-90 años (56,52 %). La mayoría presentaba enfermedad oncológica (84,78 %) y estaban polimedicados. De estos, el 95,65 % presentaba dentición incompleta, y el 41,30 % asumía que rara vez realizaba cuidados de higiene bucal. La xerostomía fue reportada por el 89,13 % de la muestra, se observó candidiasis bucal en el 76,09 %, lengua saburral en el 23,91 % y mucositis bucal en el 10,87 %. Los pacientes con patología oncológica están más predispuestos a las alteraciones bucales (p = 0,047) en comparación con los pacientes no oncológicos. Los pacientes con hábitos de higiene bucal frecuentes tienen menos trastornos bucales (rS = –0,54; p = 0,028). Hubo una mejora considerable en la lengua saburral con el aumento en la frecuencia del cuidado de la higiene bucal (p = 0,004). Conclusiones: La implementación de estrategias farmacológicas y no farmacológicas desempeña un papel central en el bienestar y calidad de vida de la persona. Es fundamental que los profesionales de la salud conozcan las afecciones bucales y sus síntomas, lo cual es fundamental para la promoción de su bienestar. (AU)


Introduction and objectives: In palliative care, there are many mouth disorders that arise, interfering with the patient’s quality of life. The mouth is a place that still deserves little attention by health professionals. The present study aimed to characterize mouth disorders in palliative care patients; to identify the etiology of mouth disorders; to investigate pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies, and to analyse its efficacy. Materials and methods: an exploratory, observational and correlational study on the mouth disorders of patients hospitalized in a palliative care service in Portugal between November 6, 2019 and July 31, 2020. The data collection instrument included a questionnaire and the consultation of the patient’s clinical file. Results: In this study (n = 46), the most representative age group was from 71 to 90 years (56.52 %). Most of them had oncological disease (84.78 %) and were polymedicated. Of these, 95.65 % had incomplete dentition and 41.30 % rarely performed oral hygiene care. Xerostomia was reported by 89.13 % of the sample; oral candidiasis was found in 76.09 %; tongue coating in 23.91 %, and oral mucositis in 10.87 %. Patients with oncological pathology were more predisposed to mouth disorders (p = 0.047) when compared to non-cancer patients. Patients with frequent oral hygiene habits had fewer mouth disorders (rS = –0.54; p = 0.028). There was considerable improvement in tongue coating with increased frequency of oral hygiene care (p = 0.004). Conclusions: The implementation of pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies plays a central role in patient comfort and quality of life. It is essential that health professionals are aware of mouth conditions and their symptoms, this being essential for the promotion of well-being. (AU)

RESUMO Objetivo: identificar estudos na literatura científica sobre a comunicação dos profissionais de saúde entre pessoas com deficiência auditiva na prestação do cuidado. Método: revisão integrativa realizada em fevereiro/2021, em 14 bases de dados e busca manual, sem recorte temporal, nos idiomas português, inglês, espanhol, através dos descritores Pessoas com Deficiência Auditiva e Profissionais de Saúde e suas variações, sem delimitação de contexto. A análise dos resultados deu-se pela organização em grupos temáticos conforme sua frequência. Resultados: 16 estudos foram selecionados, destacando-se os resultados: uso da escrita e mímica como principais estratégias de comunicação; falta de qualificação dos profissionais para uma comunicação efetiva, sendo o uso de LIBRAS a forma menos utilizada; e, sentimento de insegurança, bloqueio, incapacidade que profissionais vivenciam na comunicação com pessoas com deficiência auditiva. Conclusão: é necessário investir na qualificação dos profissionais de saúde em LIBRAS tornando a comunicação mais eficaz, contribuindo para a melhoria da prática assistencial.


ABSTRACT Objective: to identify studies in the scientific literature on the communication between health professionals and hearing impaired people during care provision. Method: an integrative review carried out in February 2021 in 14 databases and with manual search, without time frame, in Portuguese, English, Spanish and through the Hearing Impaired People and Health Professionals descriptors and their variations, without context delimitation. The results were analyzed by organizing them into thematic groups according to their frequency. Results: a total of 16 studies were selected, with the following results standing out: use of writing and mimicry as main communication strategies; non-qualification of the professionals for effective communication, with the use of LIBRAS as the least used means; and feelings of insecurity, blockage and disability experienced by the professionals in communicating with hearing impaired people. Conclusion: it is necessary to invest in health professionals' qualification in LIBRAS, making communication more effective and contributing to improvements in the care practice.


RESUMEN Objetivo: identificar estudios en la literatura científica sobre la comunicación entre los profesionales de la salud y las personas con deficiencia auditiva en la prestación de cuidados. Método: revisión integradora realizada en febrero de 2021, en 14 bases de datos y búsqueda manual, sin recorte temporal, en portugués, inglés y español, a través de los descriptores Personas con discapacidad auditiva y Profesionales de la Salud y sus variantes, sin delimitación de contexto. El análisis de los resultados se realizó organizándolos en grupos temáticos en función de la frecuencia. Resultados: Se seleccionaron 16 estudios, se destacaron los resultados: uso de la escritura y la mímica como principales estrategias de comunicación; falta de cualificación de los profesionales para lograr una comunicación efectiva, el LIBRAS es la forma menos utilizada; y, sentimiento de inseguridad, bloqueo, incapacidad que experimentan los profesionales en la comunicación con personas con deficiencia auditiva. Conclusión: es necesario invertir en la capacitación de los profesionales de la salud en LIBRAS para que haya una comunicación más efectiva que contribuya a mejorar la práctica asistencial.

RESUMO

Focal fibrous hyperplasia (FFH) is a pathology characterized by tissue enlargement as a result of increasing the number of inflammatory cells which receive chronic mechanical stimuli of low intensity that may affect gums, lip, palate, jugal mucosa and tongue.The aim of this article is to report a case of FFH on the lateral border on both sides of the tongue associated with the use of the Hyrax appliance in a hebiatric patient, whose chief complaint was chewing discomfort. This case was diagnosed clinically and by histopathology analysis and treated by surgical excision as well as the removal of Hyrax appliances. Follow-up care provided the recovery of the patient's quality of life.


La hiperplasia fibrosa focal (HFF) es una patología caracterizada por el aumento de tamaño de los tejidos como consecuencia del aumento del número de células inflamatorias que reciben estímulos mecánicos crónicos de baja intensidad que pueden afectar a encías, labio, paladar, mucosa yugal y lengua. El objetivo de este artículo es reportar un caso de FFH en el borde lateral a ambos lados de la lengua asociado al uso del aparato Hyrax en un paciente hebiátrico, cuyo principal motivo de consulta era la molestia masticatoria. Este caso fue diagnosticado clínicamente y por análisis histopatológico y tratado mediante escisión quirúrgica así como la retirada de los aparatos de Hyrax. La atención de seguimiento permitió la recuperación de la calidad de vida del paciente

Human languages can express an infinite number of thoughts despite having a finite set of words and rules. This is due, in part, to recursive structures, which allow us to embed one instance of a rule inside another. We investigated the origins of recursion by studying the development of Nicaraguan Sign Language (LSN), which emerged in the last 40 years and is not derived from any existing language. Before this, deaf individuals in Nicaragua lacked access to language models and each individual created their own gestural system, called homesign. We tested four groups: homesigners, who represent the point of origin, and the first three generations of LSN signers, who represent consecutive stages in the language's development. We used a task that was designed to elicit sentences with relative clauses, a device that allows for the recursive embedding of sentences inside of sentences (e.g., [the girl [who was drawing] removed the picture]). Signers in all three LSN cohorts consistently produced utterances that appeared to have embedded predicates (girl draw remove picture) which served the function of a relative clause (picking out the correct member of a set, based on previously mentioned information). Furthermore, in these utterances, the first verb was shorter than the second and shorter than the same verb in parallel unembedded structures. In contrast, homesigners produced similar utterances in embedded and unembedded contexts. They did not reintroduce previously mentioned information or produce reduced verb forms in the embedded context. These results demonstrate that syntactic embedding that is potentially recursive can emerge very early in a language. These embedded predicates, however, may not be widespread, or systematically marked, in homesign systems. This raises the possibility that the emergence of recursive linguistic structure is a consequence of interaction within a language community. These findings pave the way for future work which investigates the syntactic form of these embedded predicates and explores whether multiple levels of embedding are possible.

RESUMEN Objetivo Obtener evidencias de confiabilidad de la prueba para evaluar la percepción de los contrastes mínimos en Lengua de Señas Chilena (LSCh). Método Participaron 10 niños y adolescentes Sordos con edades entre los 7 y 14 años, que fueron evaluados con la prueba de percepción de los contrastes mínimos en LSCh. En un primer momento se les aplicó la prueba, y entre 11 y 14 días después se les reaplicó nuevamente (confiabilidad test - retest). Para analizar los datos, fue realizada la correlación Rho de Spearman. Durante la primera aplicación se solicitó autorización a los padres de los niños y adolescentes para grabar las respuestas de los participantes para que otro evaluador pudiese repuntuar los protocolos, con el fin de obtener la confiabilidad interevaluador. Para el análisis de los datos se utilizó el cálculo estadístico first-order agreement coefficient (AC1) de Gwet. Resultados En la confiabilidad test - retest se obtuvo una correlación fuerte y significativa (Rho= 0,741; p=0,014). En la confiabilidad interevaluador, los valores de concordancia obtenidos varían entre 0,962 a 1 (p<0,001), indicando que la prueba presenta concordancia casi perfecta. Conclusión La prueba de percepción de pares de mínimos en LSCh presenta confiabilidad test - retest e interevaluador satisfactoria.


ABSTRACT Purpose Obtain evidence of the test reliability to evaluate the perception of minimum contrasts in Chilean Sign Language (LSCh). Methods Ten deaf children and adolescents aged between 7 and 14 years participated in this study. They were evaluated with the test of perception of minimal contrasts in LSCh. The test was reapplied 11 and 14 days after the first application (test-retest reliability). Spearman's Rho correlation was performed. During the first application, authorization was requested from the parents of the children and adolescents to record the responses of the participants so that another evaluator could re-score the protocols, in order to obtain inter-rater reliability. First-order agreement coefficient (AC1) Gwet's was used for data analysis. Results Test-retest obtained a strong and significant correlation (Rho= 0.741; p=0.014). The concordance values obtained inter-rater vary between 0.962 and 1 (p<0.001), indicating that the test presents almost perfect concordance. Conclusion The minimum pairs perception test in LSCh presents satisfactory test-retest and inter-rater reliability.

Se presenta un caso de hemangioma intramuscular con flebolitos de lengua en una mujer de 60 años. Clínicamente correspondía a una tumefacción de dos años de evolución, sin signos que sugirieran su origen vascular. Luego de su evaluación inicial se realizó biopsia excéresis de la lesión para su estudio histopatológico. En el estudio histológico se pudo observar una formación tisular redondeada y circunscripta constituida por tejido conjuntivo fibroso con abundantes capilares congestivos que desplazaban el tejido muscular, destacándose la presencia de trombos con calcificaciones dispuestas en capas concéntricas (flebolitos). En base a estos hallazgos morfológicos, el diagnóstico definitivo fue de hemangioma capilar intramuscular con flebolitos de lengua. Para confirmar la naturaleza neoplásica vascular de la lesión se realizó inmunomarcación con el anticuerpo GLUT1. Es de destacar, de acuerdo a la revisión bibliográfica realizada en PubMed, que esta entidad patológica es rara, particularmente en la lengua.

Clinicamente, correspondia a um inchaço com duração de dois anos, sem sinais que sugerissem sua origem vascular. Após sua avaliação inicial, foi realizada biópsia excisional da lesão para estudo histopatológico. No estudo histológico pôde-se observar uma formação tecidual arredondada e circunscrita constituída por tecido conjuntivo fibroso com abundantes capilares congestivos que deslocavam o tecido muscular, destacando a presença de trombos com calcificações dispostos em camadas concêntricas (flebólitos). Com base nesses achados morfológicos, o diagnóstico definitivo foi de hemangioma capilar intramuscular com flebólitos de língua. Para confirmar a natureza neoplásica vascular da lesão, foi realizada imunocoloração com o anticorpo GLUT1. Ressalta-se, de acordo com a revisão bibliográfica realizada no PubMed, que esta entidade patológica é rara, principalmente na língua.


Summary We present a case of intramuscular hemangioma with tongue phleboliths in a 60-year-old woman. Clinically it corresponded to a swelling of two years of evolution, without signs that suggested its vascular origin. After her initial evaluation, an excisional biopsy of the lesion was performed for histopathological study. In the histological study it was possible to observe a rounded and circumscribed tissue formation made up of fibrous connective tissue with abundant congestive capillaries that displaced the muscle tissue, highlighting the presence of thrombi with calcifications arranged in concentric layers (phleboliths). Based on these morphological findings, the definitive diagnosis was intramuscular capillary hemangioma with tongue phleboliths. To confirm the vascular neoplastic nature of the lesion, histochemical immunostaining was performed with the GLUT1 antibody. It is noteworthy, according to the bibliographic review carried out in PubMed, that this pathological entity is rare, particularly in the tongue.

A mãe é considerada coautora no desenvolvimento comunicativo de seu filho, inserindo-o na cultura da linguagem durante momentos de interação. O objetivo do presente estudo foi construir um roteiro que investigue a interação diádica, relacionando-a com o desenvolvimento da linguagem. Para a elaboração do roteiro, realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica selecionando artigos e documentos acadêmicos nacionais na íntegra, sem período específico de publicação. Foram selecionadas oito publicações utilizadas para a construção de perguntas relacionadas às situações e contextos comunicativos entre mães e filhos. Após construído, o instrumento foi analisado e teve a concordância de três juízes. O roteiro foi dividido em quatro partes: 1) identificação; 2) cuidados diários; 3) comunicação mãe-criança; e 4) interação e brincadeiras, com a opção de respostas na forma dissertativa e de múltipla escolha. Conclui-se que o roteiro elaborado pode ser um instrumento que auxilie na investigação a estimulação da linguagem entre a díade nos diferentes contextos de vida


Mother is considered coauthor in her child's communicative development, inserting him/her into the language culture during moments of interaction. The objective of the present study was to develop a script that investigates dyadic interaction, relating it to language development. For the elaboration of the script, bibliographic research was carried out, selecting articles and national academic documents in their entirety, without a specific period of publication. Eight publications were selected, used to address questions related to communicative situations and contexts between mothers and children. After construction, the instrument was analyzed and had the agreement of three judges. The script was divided into four parts: 1) identification; 2) Daily care; 3) Mother-child communication; 4) Interaction and play. There are options for answers in essays and multiple choice. It is concluded that the elaborate script can be an instrument that helps in the investigation of the stimulation of language between the dyad in different contexts of life


La madre es considerada coautora en el desarrollo comunicativo de su hijo, insertándolo en la cultura del lenguaje en los momentos de interacción. El objetivo del presente estudio fue construir un guión que investigue la interacción diádica, relacionándola con el desarrollo del lenguaje. Para la elaboración del guión se realizó una investigación ibliográfica, seleccionando artículos y documentos académicos nacionales en su totalidad, sin un período específico de publicación. Se seleccionaron ocho publicaciones, utilizadas para la construcción de preguntas relacionadas con situaciones y contextos comunicativos entre madres e hijos. Después de la construcción, el instrumento fue analizado y contócon la conformidad de tres jueces. El guión se dividió en cuatro partes: 1) identificación; 2) Cuidado diario; 3) comunicación madrehijo; y 4) Interacción y juegos, con opción de respuestas en ensayo y opción múltiple. Se concluye que el guión elaborado puede ser un instrumento que ayude en la investigación de la estimulación del lenguaje entre la díada en diferentes contextos de vida

Las lesiones de la cavidad oral corresponden a un hallazgo frecuente y muchas veces difíciles de diagnosticar. Su correcto reconocimiento podría ser clave en detectar patologías que podrían cambiar el pronóstico del paciente. El objetivo de esta revisión es describir una clasificación de las lesiones de la cavidad oral que permita ayudar al diagnóstico en la práctica clínica. Para esto, se detallan y se describen las lesiones, orientando al diagnóstico y a la necesidad de biopsiar. Para simplificar la orientación diagnóstica, las lesiones se clasifican en 2 grandes grupos: tumorales y no tumorales. Las lesiones no tumorales se subdividen en lesiones de la mucosa oral y lesiones de la lengua.


Lesions of the oral cavity are frequent and often difficult to diagnose. However, correct recognition could change the patient's prognosis. This review aims to describe a classification of oral mucosa lesions, to help the diagnosis in clinical practice. The lesions are described for this, guiding the diagnosis and the need for biopsy. To simplify the diagnostic orientation, the lesions are classified into two groups: tumor and non-tumor lesions. Non-tumor lesions are subdivided into lesions of the oral mucosa and lesions of the tongue.

Resumo Processos formativos para fortalecer a segurança alimentar e nutricional (SAN) como política são demandas da Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa (CPLP). Objetivamos descrever e analisar práticas educativas desenvolvidas pelos docentes, visando refletir e propor ajustes para aprimorar o processo formativo a distância em SAN no contexto da CPLP. O curso foi composto por alunos do Brasil; Cabo Verde; Moçambique e São Tomé e Príncipe. A pesquisa é aplicada, teve abordagem qualitativa e natureza descritiva e explicativa, empregando videoaulas como materiais de estudo, principalmente, com base na Análise Textual Discursiva. A proposta indica que cursos de mesma natureza requerem da gestão educacional formação docente; reconhecimento do conhecimento dos discentes; inserção de dialogia nas videoaulas; oferecimento de atividades locais capazes de gerar compreensão da realidade; criação de sequência para elaboração do Trabalho de Conclusão (TCC); e desenvolvimento do TCC visando à transformação da realidade. Resumen Procesos formativos para fortalecer la Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional (SAN) como política son demandas de la Comunidad de los Países de Lengua Portuguesa (CPLP). El objetivo es describir y analizar prácticas educativas desarrolladas por los docentes, con el objetivo de reflexionar y proponer ajustes para el perfeccionamiento del proceso formativo a distancia en SAN en el contexto de la CPLP (Brasil, Cabo Verde, Mozambique y Santo Tomé y Príncipe). Se realizó la investigación, con abordaje cualitativo y naturaleza descriptiva y explicativa, empleando videoclases como material de estudio, principalmente con base en el Análisis Textual Discursivo. La propuesta indica que cursos de la misma naturaleza demandan de la gestión educativa: formación docente, reconocimiento del conocimiento de los discentes, inserción de dilogía en las videoclases, ofrecimiento de actividades locales capaces de generar comprensión de la realidad, creación de secuencia para elaboración del Trabajo de Conclusión (TCC) y desarrollo del TCC con el objetivo de transformación de la realidad. Abstract Formative processes to strengthen Food Security and Nutrition (FSN) are demanded by the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP). Our objective was to describe and analyze the educational practices developed by teachers, aiming to reflect and propose adjustments to improve the distance formative process in FSN in the CPLP context (Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe). This is applied research, with a qualitative approach and a descriptive and explanatory nature, using video classes as study material, mainly based on Discursive Textual Analysis. The proposal indicates that courses of the same nature require: teacher education; recognition of students' knowledge; insertion of dialogue in the video lessons; offering local activities capable of generating an understanding of the reality; creation of a sequence for the elaboration of the undergraduate thesis (UT); and writing UTs aimed at transforming reality. ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of an educational video on deaf people's knowledge and skills about cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Method: A randomized trial, carried out at three schools with 113 deaf people (control group = 57 and intervention group = 56). After the pre-test, the control group was exposed to the lecture, while the intervention group was exposed to the video. The post-test occurred immediately after the intervention and was repeated after 15 days. A validated instrument was used, with 11 questions, presented in video/Libras (to enable understanding by deaf people) and in written/printed form (to record the answers). Results: In the analysis of knowledge, the median of correct answers in the pre-test was similar between the groups (p = 0.635), while the intervention group had a higher accuracy in the immediate post-test (p = 0.035) and after 15 days (p = 0.026). In the skill analysis, the median of correct answers in the pre-test was higher in the control group (p = 0.031). There was no difference in the immediate post-test (p = 0.770), and there was a higher accuracy in the intervention group in the post-test after 15 days (p = 0.014). Conclusion: The video proved to be effective in increasing deaf people's knowledge and skills about cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials: RBR-5npmgj.


RESUMEN Objetivo: Analizar la efectividad de un video educativo sobre el conocimiento y la habilidad de las personas sordas acerca de la reanimación cardiopulmonar. Método: Ensayo aleatorizado, realizado en tres escuelas con 113 personas sordas (grupo control = 57 y grupo intervención = 56). Después de la prueba previa, el grupo de control fue expuesto a la conferencia, mientras que el grupo de intervención fue expuesto al video. La posprueba se realizó inmediatamente después de la intervención, y se repitió a los 15 días. Se utilizó un instrumento validado, con 11 preguntas presentadas en video/Libras (para que los sordos comprendan) y en forma escrita/impresa (para registrar las respuestas). Resultados: En el análisis de conocimientos, la mediana de aciertos en la preprueba fue similar entre los grupos (p = 0,635), mientras que el grupo intervención tuvo mayor acierto en la posprueba inmediato (p = 0,035) y después 15 días (p = 0,026). En el análisis de habilidades, la mediana de aciertos en la preprueba fue mayor en el grupo control (p = 0,031). No hubo diferencia en la posprueba inmediato (p = 0,770), y el grupo intervención tuvo más éxito en la posprueba a los 15 días (p = 0,014). Conclusión: El video demostró ser efectivo para aumentar el conocimiento y las habilidades de las personas sordas sobre la reanimación cardiopulmonar. Método: Ensaio randomizado, realizado em três escolas com 113 surdos (grupo controle = 57 e grupo intervenção = 56). Após o pré-teste, o grupo controle foi exposto à aula expositiva, enquanto o grupo intervenção foi exposto ao vídeo. O pós-teste ocorreu imediatamente depois da intervenção, e foi repetido após 15 dias. Foi utilizado instrumento validado, com 11 questões apresentadas em vídeo/libras (para viabilizar compreensão dos surdos) e de forma escrita/impressa (para registro das respostas). Resultados: Na análise do conhecimento, a mediana dos acertos do pré-teste foi semelhante entre os grupos (p = 0,635), enquanto houve maior acerto do grupo intervenção no pós-teste imediato (p = 0,035) e após 15 dias (p = 0,026). Na análise da habilidade, a mediana dos acertos do pré-teste foi maior no grupo controle (p = 0,031). Não houve diferença no pós-teste imediato (p = 0,770), e houve maior acerto do grupo intervenção no pós-teste após 15 dias (p = 0,014). Background: Using a foreign language can influence emotion modulation, but whether different psychotherapy processes would be affected by a foreign language is still unclear. The current study explored the foreign language effect on the extinction of fear. Method: During the conditioning phase, part of the neutral stimuli presented to the participants were associated with a threat, while they performed a countdown task in their native language. In the extinction phase, participants performed the same task either in their native/foreign language and were informed that the threat would no longer appear. We collected self-reports of fear, and pupil dilation and electrodermal activity as physiological measures of arousal. Results: Extinction was successful, indicated by greater self-reported fear and pupil dilation during the threat condition compared to neutral in the conditioning phase, but no significant differences during extinction. Although the foreign language group presented higher arousal, fear extinction occurred regardless of the linguistic context. Conclusions: Fear extinction via verbal instructions is equally effective in a foreign and a native language context. These results indicate that evidence should be continue to be gathered on the role of foreign languages using basic paradigms with clinical applications.(AU)


Antecedentes: Usar un idioma extranjero puede influir la modulación de las emociones, pero no está claro si su uso podría influir diferentes procesos psicoterapéuticos. Este estudio explora el efecto de la lengua extranjera en la extinción del miedo. Método: Durante el condicionamiento, parte de los estímulos presentados se asociaron a amenaza, mientras los participantes realizaban una tarea de cuenta regresiva en un contexto de lengua nativa. En la fase de extinción, se realizó la misma tarea en su lengua nativa/extranjera, y se informó de que ya no habría amenaza. Se recogieron autoinformes de miedo, así como dilatación de pupila y actividad electrodérmica como medidas fisiológicas de excitación. Resultados: La extinción fue satisfactoria, como muestran una mayor dilatación pupilar y los autoinformes de miedo al comparar las condiciones de amenaza y neutral en la fase de condicionamiento, y no encontrar diferencias significativas durante la extinción. Aunque el grupo de lengua extranjera presentó una mayor excitación, la extinción del miedo ocurre independientemente del contexto lingüístico. Conclusiones: La extinción del miedo mediante instrucciones verbales es igualmente eficaz en contexto de lengua extranjera y nativa. Estos resultados invitan a seguir reuniendo pruebas sobre el papel de las lenguas extranjeras mediante paradigmas con aplicaciones clínicas.(AU)
