Scientific advances have facilitated the dissemination of knowledge, and the latest discoveries can be easily found on the Internet. This has produced the migration of journals from print to digital; however, this process is not always done properly since there are journals, and consequently their publications, which are not currently found in academic search engines due to the inappropriate use of software or otherwise to a misconfiguration of those that have been implemented. In this line, the recommendation is to use Open Journal System, a software designed for scientific publication; on the other hand, several journals use content manager systems such as WordPress because of its easy implementation and customization even when they present editorial constrains. The following is a method for the correct indexing of journals created in WordPress in the Google Scholar search engine.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work was to analyze the metadata of the SARS-CoV-2 sequences obtained from samples collected in Mexico from 2020 to 2022. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Metadata of SARS-CoV-2 sequences from samples collected in Mexico up to 31 December 2022 was retrieved from GISAID and manually cured for interpretation. RESULTS: As of December 2022, Mexican health authorities and the scientific community have sequenced up to 81,983 SARS-CoV-2 viral genomes deposited in GISAID, representing 1.1% of confirmed cases. The number of sequences obtained per state corresponded to the gross domestic product (GDP) of each state for the first (Mexico City) and the last (Tlaxcala). Approximately 25% of the sequences were obtained from CoViGen-Mex, an interdisciplinary initiative of health and scientific institutions to collect and sequence samples nationwide. The metadata showed a clear dominance of sequences retrieved by women. A similar variant distribution over time was found in Mexico and overseas, with the Omicron variant predominating. Finally, the age group with the highest representation in the sequences was adults aged 21 to 50 years, accounting for more than 50% of the total. CONCLUSIONS: Mexico presents diverse sociodemographic and economic characteristics. The COVID-19 pandemic has been and continues to be a challenge for collaboration across the country and around the world.

RESUMO

Plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPB) have been used as integrative inputs to minimize the use of chemical fertilizers. However, a holistic comprehension about PGPB-plant-microbiome interactions is still incipient. Furthermore, the interaction among PGPB and the holobiont (host-microbiome association) represent a new frontier to plant breeding programs. We aimed to characterize maize bulk soil and rhizosphere microbiomes in irradiated soil (IS) and a native soil (NS) microbial community gradient (dilution-to-extinction) with Azospirillum brasilense Ab-V5, a PGPB commercial inoculant. Our hypothesis was that plant growth promotion efficiency is a result of PGPB niche occupation and persistence according to the holobiont conditions. The effects of Ab-V5 and NS microbial communities were evaluated in microcosms by a combined approach of microbiomics (species-specific qPCR, 16S rRNA metataxonomics and metagenomics) and plant phenomics (conventional and high-throughput methods). Our results revealed a weak maize growth promoting effect of Ab-V5 inoculation in undiluted NS, contrasting the positive effects of NS dilutions 10-3, 10-6, 10-9 and IS with Ab-V5. Alpha diversity in NS + Ab-V5 soil samples was higher than in all other treatments in a time course of 25 days after sowing (DAS). At 15 DAS, alpha diversity indexes were different between NS and IS, but similar in all NS dilutions in rhizospheric samples. These differences were not persistent at 25 DAS, demonstrating a stabilization process in the rhizobiomes. In NS 10-3 +Ab-V5 and NS 10-6 Ab-V5, Ab-V5 persisted in the maize rhizosphere until 15 DAS in higher abundances compared to NS. In NS + Ab-V5, abundance of six taxa were positively correlated with response to (a)biotic stresses in plant-soil interface. Genes involved in bacterial metabolism of riboses and amino acids, and cresol degradation were abundant on NS 10-3 + Ab-V5, indicating that these pathways can contribute to plant growth promotion and might be a result of Ab-V5 performance as a microbial recruiter of beneficial functions to the plant. Our results demonstrated the effects of holobiont on Ab-V5 performance. The meta-omics integration supported by plant phenomics opens new perspectives to better understanding of inoculants-holobiont interaction and for developing better strategies for optimization in the use of microbial products.

RESUMO

On a planet experiencing constant human population growth, it is necessary to explore the anthropogenic effects on the genetic diversity of species, and specifically invasive species. Using an analysis that integrates comparative phylogeography, urban landscape genetics, macrogenetics and a systematic review, we explore the worldwide genetic diversity of the human commensal and anthropogenic species Rattus rattus and Rattus norvegicus. Based on metadata obtained considering 35 selected studies related to observed heterozygosity, measured by nuclear molecular markers (microsatellites, Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms-SNPs-, restrictition site-associated DNA sequencing -RAD-Seq-), socioeconomic and mobility anthropogenic factors were used as predictors of genetic diversity of R. rattus and R. norvegicus, using the Gini index, principal component analysis and Random Forest Regression as analysis methodology. Population density was on average the best predictor of genetic diversity in the Rattus species analyzed, indicating that the species respond in a particular way to the characteristics present in urban environments because of a combination of life history characteristics and human-mediated migration and colonization processes. To create better management and control strategies for these rodents and their associated diseases, it is necessary to fill the existing information gap in urban landscape genetics studies with more metadata repositories, with emphasis on tropical and subtropical regions of the world.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Primary health care builds the backbone of an effective healthcare system and can improve population health, reduce cost growth, and lessen inequality. We offer a machine-readable and open-access dataset on primary health care coverage in Brazil from 1998 to 2020. This dataset is interoperable with epidemiological data from two major studies and reusable by the research community worldwide for other purposes, such as monitoring progress toward universal health coverage and studying the association between primary health care and health outcomes. DATA DESCRIPTION: The dataset gathers official and public information from the "e-Gestor AB" platform of the Ministry of Health of Brazil and restricted data obtained by the Brazilian Access to Information Law. It includes 1,509,870 observations and 35 attributes aggregated by months/years and policy-relevant geographic units (country, macroregions, states, municipalities, and capitals) on primary health care team count and their absolute and relative population coverage estimates, information on the More Doctors Program implementation and physician counts, and spatial, demographic, and socioeconomic characteristics. We automated all data processing and curation in the free and open software R. The codes can be audited, replicated, and reused to produce alternative analyses.

RESUMO

Open Educational Resources (OER) can be adapted and combined to create new resources that better meet the specific needs of different kinds of users and scenarios. In this sense, OER strongly contributes to generating and sharing educational knowledge. Due to the possibility of creating a new OER through the revision and remix activities, the original OER and the transformation process should be adequately identified. This way, the user of the OER has enough information about the history of the resource and, thus, can use it with confidence and security. In this context, determining data provenance, which describes the history of a data from its origin to its current state, becomes very relevant. For OER, there are examples of metadata standards and digital repositories that help to obtain the data provenance. However, the information collected is insufficient to identify the entire history of the provenance of OER. This article proposes a Provenance Model for OER called the ProvOER Model, which allows the documentation and identification of the provenance of OER. For this purpose, a minimum set of metadata was defined that reflects the OER intrinsic properties and the activities that created a new OER. The experiments showed that the ProvOER Model produced a suitable representation of the provenance of OER. In addition, the ProvOER Model allowed identifying the original OER used in a revise or remix activity and the continuous stretch used to create a new resource.

For neuroscientists, it is a challenge to keep track of the data and metadata generated in each investigation and accurately extract all the relevant information, a crucial fact to interpret results and a minimum requirement for researchers to build their investigations on previous findings. Keep as much information as possible from the start, even if it may seem irrelevant and record and store the data with its metadata clearly and concisely. A preliminary analysis of the specialized literature revealed an absence of detailed research on how to incorporate data and metadata management in clinical brain research, in terms of organizing data and metadata completely in digital repositories, collecting and inputting them taking into account their completeness. , and take advantage of such collection in the process of data analysis. This research aims to conceptually and technically characterize neuroscience data and metadata to facilitate the development of computer solutions for its management and processing. Different bibliographic sources were consulted, as well as databases and repositories such as: Pubmed, Scielo, Nature, Researchgate, among others. The analysis on the collection, organization, processing and storage of neuroscience data and metadata for each data acquisition technique (EEG, iEEG, MEG, PET), as well as its link to the brain imaging data structure (BIDS) allowed to obtain a general characterization of how to manage and process the information contained in them(AU)

Abstract This paper aims to identify practices and challenges related to metadata management in web archiving projects. An analysis of literature on metadata in web archives published since 2013 is carried out, with particular attention to identify studies on these practices in archives and libraries. These findings point to the need to provide further contextualization on the shaping of a web archive or collection, as well as the importance of building bridges between library and archival practices. In addition, to deepen on the importance of metadata in web archiving projects, the conformation and cataloging of the #RickyRenuncia Web Collection, which is part of the RickyRenuncia Project, a collaborative and voluntary initiative to document the protests that led to the resignation of the governor of Puerto Rico in July 2019, is presented as a case study. By way of conclusion, it argues about the need to learn more about web archiving practices in Latin America and the Caribbean, and about the possibility of establishing collaborative networks aimed at strengthening the preservation of web content in the region.

RESUMO

Multi-sensor fusion intends to boost the general reliability of a decision-making procedure or allow one sensor to compensate for others' shortcomings. This field has been so prominent that authors have proposed many different fusion approaches, or "architectures" as we call them when they are structurally different, so it is now challenging to prescribe which one is better for a specific collection of sensors and a particular application environment, other than by trial and error. We propose an approach capable of predicting the best fusion architecture (from predefined options) for a given dataset. This method involves the construction of a meta-dataset where statistical characteristics from the original dataset are extracted. One challenge is that each dataset has a different number of variables (columns). Previous work took the principal component analysis's first k components to make the meta-dataset columns coherent and trained machine learning classifiers to predict the best fusion architecture. In this paper, we take a new route to build the meta-dataset. We use the Sequential Forward Floating Selection algorithm and a T transform to reduce the features and match them to a given number, respectively. Our findings indicate that our proposed method could improve the accuracy in predicting the best sensor fusion architecture for multiple domains.

RESUMO

A main goal of Precision Medicine is that of incorporating and integrating the vast corpora on different databases about the molecular and environmental origins of disease, into analytic frameworks, allowing the development of individualized, context-dependent diagnostics, and therapeutic approaches. In this regard, artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches can be used to build analytical models of complex disease aimed at prediction of personalized health conditions and outcomes. Such models must handle the wide heterogeneity of individuals in both their genetic predisposition and their social and environmental determinants. Computational approaches to medicine need to be able to efficiently manage, visualize and integrate, large datasets combining structure, and unstructured formats. This needs to be done while constrained by different levels of confidentiality, ideally doing so within a unified analytical architecture. Efficient data integration and management is key to the successful application of computational intelligence approaches to medicine. A number of challenges arise in the design of successful designs to medical data analytics under currently demanding conditions of performance in personalized medicine, while also subject to time, computational power, and bioethical constraints. Here, we will review some of these constraints and discuss possible avenues to overcome current challenges.

RESUMO

Multi-sensor fusion refers to methods used for combining information coming from several sensors (in some cases, different ones) with the aim to make one sensor compensate for the weaknesses of others or to improve the overall accuracy or the reliability of a decision-making process. Indeed, this area has made progress, and the combined use of several sensors has been so successful that many authors proposed variants of fusion methods, to the point that it is now hard to tell which of them is the best for a given set of sensors and a given application context. To address the issue of choosing an adequate fusion method, we recently proposed a machine-learning data-driven approach able to predict the best merging strategy. This approach uses a meta-data set with the Statistical signatures extracted from data sets of a particular domain, from which we train a prediction model. However, the mentioned work is restricted to the recognition of human activities. In this paper, we propose to extend our previous work to other very different contexts, such as gas detection and grammatical face expression identification, in order to test its generality. The extensions of the method are presented in this paper. Our experimental results show that our extended model predicts the best fusion method well for a given data set, making us able to claim a broad generality for our sensor fusion method.

Abstract Computing, and information and communication technology development has preponderantly transformed the growth and access to information, as well as the ways of conceiving and performing search and retrieval of information on Internet in accordance with the new context. This process has ceased to be unidirectional and the user has become a participative entity in dynamics of the process introducing a cognitive model and surpassing traditional one. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze theoretical-methodological assumptions around the representation of the need for information as an element that defines the result of a search strategy. In order to do this, it delves into the analysis of different approaches present in the user-machine interaction during search and retrieval of information. In this sense, the contributions of other disciplines that contribute to finding solutions to optimize the retrieval of information on the Internet are recognized. With this effort, the use of metadata is proposed to achieve better communication and interpretation by the Information Retrieval Systems of the different points of view of a given user.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Since prehistory to present times and despite a rough combat against it, malaria remains a concern for human beings. While evolutions of science and technology through times allowed for some infectious diseases eradication in the 20th century, malaria resists. OBJECTIVES: This review aims at assessing how Internet and web technologies are used in fighting malaria. Precisely, how do malaria fighting actors profit from these developments, how do they deal with ensuing phenomena, such as the increase of data volume, and did these technologies bring new opportunities for fighting malaria? METHODS: Eleven web platforms linked to spatio-temporal malaria information are reviewed, focusing on data, metadata, web services and categories of users. RESULTS: Though the web platforms are highly heterogeneous the review reveals that the latest advances in web technologies are underused. Information are rarely updated dynamically, metadata catalogues are absent, web services are more and more used, but rarely standardized, and websites are mainly dedicated to scientific communities, essentially researchers. CONCLUSION: Improvement of systems interoperability, through standardization, is an opportunity to be seized in order to allow real time information exchange and online multisource data analysis. To facilitate multidisciplinary/multiscale studies, the web of linked data and the semantic web innovations can be used in order to formalize the different view points of actors involved in the combat against malaria. By doing so, new malaria fighting strategies could take place, to tackle the bottlenecks listed in the United Nation Millennium Development Goals reports, but also specific issues highlighted by the World Health Organization such as malaria elimination in international borders.

RESUMO

Background: Opportunities to use data and information to address challenges in international agricultural research and development are expanding rapidly. The use of agricultural trial and evaluation data has enormous potential to improve crops and management practices. However, for a number of reasons, this potential has yet to be realized. This paper reports on the experience of the AgTrials initiative, an effort to build an online database of agricultural trials applying principles of interoperability and open access. Methods: Our analysis evaluates what worked and what did not work in the development of the AgTrials information resource. We analyzed data on our users and their interaction with the platform. We also surveyed our users to gauge their perceptions of the utility of the online database. Results: The study revealed barriers to participation and impediments to interaction, opportunities for improving agricultural knowledge management and a large potential for the use of trial and evaluation data.  Conclusions: Technical and logistical mechanisms for developing interoperable online databases are well advanced.  More effort will be needed to advance organizational and institutional work for these types of databases to realize their potential.

RESUMO

Images function as sources of data and influence our thinking about fieldwork, representation, and intersubjectivity. In this article, I show how both the ethnographic relationships and the working method of photography lead to a more nuanced understanding of a healing event. I systematically analyze 33 photographs made over a 15-minute period during the preparation and application of a poultice (topical cure) in a rural Andean home. The images chronicle the event, revealing my initial reaction and the decisions I made when tripping the shutter. By unpacking the relationship between ethnographer and subject, I reveal the constant negotiation of positions, assumptions, and expectations that make up intersubjectivity.
