RESUMO

Tuojiang River Basin is a first-class tributary of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River-which is the longest river in China. As phytoplankton are sensitive indicators of trophic changes in water bodies, characterizing phytoplankton communities and their growth influencing factors in polluted urban rivers can provide new ideas for pollution control. Here, we used direct microscopic count and environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding methods to investigate phytoplankton community structure in Tuojiang River Basin (Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China). The association between phytoplankton community structure and water environmental factors was evaluated by Mantel analysis. Additional environmental monitoring data were used to pinpoint major factors that influenced phytoplankton growth based on structural equation modeling. At the phylum level, the dominant phytoplankton taxa identified by the conventional microscopic method mainly belonged to Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, and Cyanophyta, in contrast with Chlorophyta, Dinophyceae, and Bacillariophyta identified by eDNA metabarcoding. In α-diversity analysis, eDNA metabarcoding detected greater species diversity and achieved higher precision than the microscopic method. Phytoplankton growth was largely limited by phosphorus based on the nitrogen-to-phosphorus ratios > 16:1 in all water samples. Redundancy analysis and structural equation modeling also confirmed that the nitrogen-to-phosphorus ratio was the principal factor influencing phytoplankton growth. The results could be useful for implementing comprehensive management of the river basin environment. It is recommended to control the discharge of point- and surface-source pollutants and the concentration of dissolved oxygen in areas with excessive nutrients (e.g., Jianyang-Ziyang). Algae monitoring techniques and removal strategies should be improved in 201 Hospital, Hongrihe Bridge and Colmar Town areas.

BACKGROUND: The relationship between abnormalities of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and elbow symptoms in baseball players remains unclear. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: This study aimed to compare findings of the UCL on microscopic MRI between asymptomatic and symptomatic elbows in baseball players. We hypothesized that the MRI grade of UCL injuries would exhibit no correlation with medial elbow symptoms in baseball players. STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS: The study participants were skeletally mature baseball players who underwent high-resolution microscopic MRI of the medial elbow including for medical checkups. Elbows with previous surgical treatment or traumatic UCL injuries were excluded. The patients were divided into symptomatic and asymptomatic groups. The UCL appearance on microscopic MRI was categorized into 4 grades and compared between the groups. Abnormal findings in the medial elbow including bony fragments at the medial epicondyle, osteophytes or bony fragments in the sublime tubercle, and bone marrow edema (BME) in the sublime tubercle were also evaluated. RESULTS: A total of 426 baseball players (426 elbows) with a mean age of 20 years (range, 14-41 years) were included. The asymptomatic and symptomatic groups included 158 and 268 elbows, respectively. In the asymptomatic group, based on MRI grading of the UCL, 46 (29%) elbows were rated as grade I, 64 (41%) as grade II, 40 (25%) as grade III, and 8 (5%) as grade IV. In the symptomatic group, 75 (28%) elbows were rated as grade I, 118 (44%) as grade II, 61 (23%) as grade III, and 14 (5%) as grade IV. There was no significant difference in the MRI grades between the groups (P = .9). BME in the sublime tubercle was more frequently seen in the symptomatic group than in the asymptomatic group (P < .001). CONCLUSION: There was no difference in MRI grades of the UCL between symptomatic and asymptomatic elbows in baseball players; approximately 30% of elbows demonstrated high-grade UCL injuries in both groups. BME in the sublime tubercle was more frequently seen in symptomatic elbows than in asymptomatic elbows. BME in the sublime tubercle was a better indicator of symptoms than was MRI grading of the UCL.

OBJECTIVES: The incidence of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) associated vasculitis (AAV) shows disparate results due to variable classification criteria and heterogeneous-population series. We aimed to estimate the incidence of AAV in a well-defined population with standardized classification criteria. METHODS: Population-based study of AAV patients diagnosed from January 2000 to December 2023 in Cantabria, Northern Spain. Patients were classified according to ACR/EULAR 2022 into granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), or unclassified vasculitis if the criteria were not met. Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) patients were not included. The annual incidence rates were estimated by cases over 1,000 000 (106) (95% CI) including overall AVV, type of AAV, sex, and year of diagnosis. A literature review was also performed. RESULTS: We included 152 (80/72 men; mean age; 70.6 ± 13.18 years) patients. They were classified as MPA (67; 44%), GPA (64; 42.2%), and unclassified vasculitis (21; 13.8%). Annual incidence was 13.4 (10-16.8)/106 [male 14.5 (10.5-18.5); female 12.1 (8.7-15.6)]. The Annual incidence of MPA was 5.9 (4-7.8)/106 and GPA 5.6 (3.9-7.3)/106. The mean Annual incidence increased from 6.1 (4.5-7.7)/106-16.5 (5.6-27.4)/106 in the last three years, particularly, in GPA from 2.3 (0.3-4.9)/106-8.2 (2-14.5)/106. The prevalence of AAV was 184.7 (181-188)/106. CONCLUSION: During a 20-year period we found that the incidence of AAV (GPA and MPA) in Northern Spain is higher than Southern Spain, but lower than Northern European countries. An increase in the incidence was observed in the last years.

Soft tissue concerns are critical to the long-term success of dental implants, influencing both function and appearance. This review looks at soft tissue integration with dental implants from both microscopic and macroscopic viewpoints. It investigates the biological mechanisms, therapeutic management, and factors that influence soft tissue health around implants. By exploring these issues, the review hopes to provide a full understanding of the importance of soft tissue considerations in dental implantology.

Microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) is a rare autoimmune disease characterized by the inflammation and necrosis of small vessels, primarily affecting kidneys and lungs. It is classified as an antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) due to the presence of ANCA. MPA can manifest as diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) and rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis. In contrast, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an inflammatory disease that mainly targets the synovial joints. The coexistence of these two conditions presents significant diagnostic challenges, highlighting the need for further research and understanding. We report a case of a 58-year-old male with a past medical history of RA, chronic bronchitis, tobacco use, and recent Legionella pneumonia who presented with acute dyspnea. The patient was intubated for acute hypoxemic respiratory failure. Laboratory workup revealed anemia, hyponatremia, and acute kidney injury. Urinalysis showed hematuria and proteinuria. A CT scan of the chest exhibited bilateral extensive patchy infiltrates. He was transfused with one packed red blood cell (PRBC) unit. Hemoglobin decreased below 6 g/dL after transfusion. A bronchoscopy revealed erythema throughout the tracheobronchial tree, and blood on bronchial alveolar lavage suggested DAH. High-dose steroids were started. Subsequent laboratory results were positive for rheumatoid factor (RF), perinuclear ANCA (p-ANCA), anti-myeloperoxidase (anti-MPO), and antinuclear antibody (ANA). The kidney biopsy demonstrated focal crescentic necrotizing glomerulonephritis pauci-immune type, confirming MPA. RA pathogenesis involves immune dysregulation and activation of various cells, leading to the release of cytokines. Antibodies such as RF and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) can be detected up to 10 years before the clinical manifestation of RA. Recent studies have revealed a predominance of MPA in AAV while coexisting with RA. The underlying mechanism of its occurrence remains unclear. Our patient had recurrent respiratory symptoms and renal dysfunction before hospitalization. MPA-RA overlap syndrome is potentially treatable and clinicians should maintain a high index of suspicion when encountering patients with preexisting RA. Timely initiation of immunosuppressive therapy at early stages is essential to prevent renal and pulmonary complications. ANCA serology should be assessed in these cases.

The historical control database of a multinational laboratory services provider was queried for all histopathologic findings in New Zealand White rabbits which were used as control animals during a ten-year period (2011-2020). The query included all evaluated tissues, with or without microscopic findings, in studies conducted for safety testing for regulatory approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Agency (FDA) or the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. A second query included studies conducted in the United Kingdom for control rabbits used in studies compliant with the Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and/or the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which provide regulatory oversight in the United Kingdom and European Union, respectively. Infiltrates of inflammatory (mixed or mononuclear) cells were commonly noted in various organs including heart, digestive tract, muscle, thyroid, kidney, urinary bladder, eyelid, ocular structures, harderian gland, lacrimal gland, and lung. Mineralization was noted in aorta, kidney, urinary bladder, and ovary. Also noted were degeneration/necrosis in the myocardium, and intramuscular injection sites of the skin, degeneration/regeneration of muscle and diaphragm, ectopic tissue in the pancreas and thyroid, basophilic foci in salivary gland, increased/decreased vacuolation in adrenal gland, increased/decreased lymphocytic cellularity of lymph nodes, intrasinusoidal erythrocytes in lymph nodes, thymic atrophy, increased adipocytes in bone marrow, inflammatory cell foci in the liver and gall bladder, lacrimal gland atrophy, renal tubule basophilia, degeneration/regeneration, and dilatation; oviduct cyst; in the testis, degeneration/atrophy, cellular debris, dilatation, decreased sperm and segmental hypoplasia of seminiferous tubules; and squamous metaplasia of the testis and seminal vesicle.

Pathological images are considered the gold standard for clinical diagnosis and cancer grading. Automatic segmentation of pathological images is a fundamental and crucial step in constructing powerful computer-aided diagnostic systems. Medical microscopic hyperspectral pathological images can provide additional spectral information, further distinguishing different chemical components of biological tissues, offering new insights for accurate segmentation of pathological images. However, hyperspectral pathological images have higher resolution and larger area, and their annotation requires more time and clinical experience. The lack of precise annotations limits the progress of research in pathological image segmentation. In this paper, we propose a novel semi-supervised segmentation method for microscopic hyperspectral pathological images based on multi-consistency learning (MCL-Net), which combines consistency regularization methods with pseudo-labeling techniques. The MCL-Net architecture employs a shared encoder and multiple independent decoders. We introduce a Soft-Hard pseudo-label generation strategy in MCL-Net to generate pseudo-labels that are closer to real labels for pathological images. Furthermore, we propose a multi-consistency learning strategy, treating pseudo-labels generated by the Soft-Hard process as real labels, by promoting consistency between predictions of different decoders, enabling the model to learn more sample features. Extensive experiments in this paper demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, providing new insights for the segmentation of microscopic hyperspectral tissue pathology images.

BACKGROUND: Microscopic colitis (MC) is an inflammatory disorder of the colon. To date, the relationship between inflammatory eye diseases and MC is unclear. OBJECTIVE: To assess whether inflammatory eye disease (iridocyclitis and episcleritis) is a risk factor for MC. METHODS: We conducted a nationwide matched case control study in Sweden leveraging the ESPRESSO-study (a Swedish database containing data on all biopsies from the gastrointestinal tract from 1965 to 2017). In total, we identified 14,338 patients with biopsy-verified MC (diagnosed from 1981 to 2017). Patients with MC were matched (by age, sex, county and year of birth) with 68,753 controls from the general population and the occurrence of preceding inflammatory eye diseases (defined as diagnosis of episcleritis or iridocyclitis) in the two groups was compared. Multivariable adjusted odds ratios (aORs) were calculated using conditional logistic regression conditioned on the matching variables. RESULTS: A majority of patients with MC were women (71.9%) and the median age at MC diagnosis was 63.3 years (interquartile range (IQR) = 50.7-72.6). Some 225 (1.6%) MC patients had an earlier record of inflammatory eye disease compared with 614 (0.9%) in controls. These figures corresponded to an aOR of 1.77 (95% CI = 1.52-2.07) for inflammatory eye diseases in patients with MC. Compared to siblings, the aOR for previous inflammatory eye diseases in MC was 1.52 (95% CI = 1.17-1.98) and patients treated with budesonide, as a proxy for clinically significant disease, had a somewhat higher aOR for previous inflammatory eye diseases. CONCLUSION: Inflammatory eye diseases are more common in patients subsequently being diagnosed with MC. Our findings highlight that these conditions may have shared causes and inflammatory pathways and are of clinical interest to gastroenterologists, ophthalmologists and general practitioners.

BACKGROUND: Interim crowns are utilized for restoring implants during and after the process of osseointegration. However, studies on adaptation and fracture strength of implant-supported interim crowns are rare. AIM OF THE STUDY: The aim of this in vitro study is evaluating marginal fit and fracture resistance of conventional, subtractive, and additive methods of fabricating implant-supported interim crowns. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An implant was placed in an epoxy resin model with a missing first molar. A scan body was attached, and scanned with an intraoral scanner (IOS), the STL file was used to fabricate eighteen master models with standardized implant digital analogue spaces. The digital analogues and their corresponding abutments were attached to the master models and scanned with the IOS, the STL files were used to fabricate eighteen crowns using three different techniques (n = 6): conventional (CR); from Autopolymerizing composite resin, subtractive (SM); milled from PMMA resin blanks, and additive (AM); from 3D printed resin material. The crowns were fitted and cemented on their corresponding abutments and subjected to cyclic loading and thermocycling. The marginal fit was evaluated using a stereomicroscope. The crowns were then loaded until fractured in a universal testing machine. The Shapiro-Wilk and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests revealed that data of Marginal gap was non-parametric. Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the Dunn test was used (α = 0.05). While data of Fracture resistance test was parametric. ANOVA (F-test) was used followed by the Tukey test (α = 0.05). RESULTS: For marginal gap, a significant difference was shown between the study groups (P = .001) according to Kruskal-Wallis test. Groups SM and AM had significantly lower marginal gap values compared to group CR (P = .003). No significant difference was found between groups SM and AM (P = .994). For fracture resistance, One-way ANOVA revealed a significant difference in fracture resistance between study groups (P < .001). Group SM had significantly higher fracture strength followed by group AM and group CR (P = .001). CONCLUSIONS: Group SM and AM showed better marginal adaptation than group CR. Group SM showed superior fracture resistance compared to other groups. All study groups showed acceptable marginal gap and fracture resistance.

RESUMO

Various conditions under the umbrella term of vasculitis have been well documented in the literature. These have been classified into small, medium, and large vessel vasculitis. In addition, vasculitis has been categorized into radiation-induced, systemic, and paraneoplastic. Of these, paraneoplastic vasculitis accounts for 2-5% of all cases of vasculitides and is less well documented. We present a case of a female patient with a history of breast cancer presenting with an upper gastrointestinal tract (GI) bleed, which subsequently revealed an underlying diagnosis of systemic vasculitis, possibly paraneoplastic. This case highlights the importance of imaging for revealing underlying vasculitis as an etiology of GI bleed.

The report of the biopsy diagnosis of the granular cell tumor with rare localization in the breast is given. Currently, the tumor is considered a neoplasm of neuroectodermal origin. Differential diagnostic criteria for the tumor are positive expression in cytoplasm of protein S-100, absence of expression of epithelial antigens, histiocytic antigens, oncoproteins, estrogens and progesterone receptors, PAS-positive reaction of intracellular granules. With ultrasound examination and mammography, a tumor always initially assessed as cancer or calcification.

As an unconventional reservoir sedimentary rock, shale contains a series of layers and various microstructures that lead to complex mechanical properties, such as the anisotropy of stiffness and strength. This study is directed towards the anisotropy caused by the microstructures of the shale, employing the 2D particle flow code (PFC2D) to explore stiffness, strength, failure mode, and micro-crack evolution. More realistic microstructures and the calibration of microscopic parameters of the shale are reasonably considered through the computed tomography (CT) images and mineral analysis. The corresponding numerical simulation results are fully compared with the experimental results. In what follows, the sensitivity analysis is conducted on the key microscopic parameters and microstructure characteristics in numerical samples with laminated characteristics. The results show that the influence of microscopic parameters of the parallel bonding model on macroscopic parameters is related to the layering angle and the face type, and the microstructures and initial cracks of numerical samples can considerably affect the macroscopic mechanical behaviors of the laminated samples. Next, the effect of confining pressure on the mechanical properties of layered shale is also discussed based on the numerical results. These findings highlight the potential of this approach for applications in micro-scaled models and calibration of microscopic parameters to probe mechanical behaviors of the laminated rock.

Griscelli syndrome (GS) type II is a rare hereditary disorder characterized by partial albinism, immunodeficiency, and the subsequent development of hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS). Herein, we present a case involving a four-month-old infant admitted to our facility due to a prolonged fever complicated by HPS. The diagnosis of GS type 2 was established based on a constellation of clinical and laboratory findings: consanguinity, familial history of early infectious fatalities, ocular-cutaneous hypopigmentation, characteristic silvery hair sheen, onset of HPS, and notably, the pathognomonic appearance upon microscopic examination of a hair sample. The absence of giant granules within nucleated cells helped exclude Chediak-Higashi syndrome.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to conduct a comparative analysis of audiological and postoperative clinical outcomes between the endoscopic and microscopic stapedotomy approaches. METHODS: This study employed a randomized, controlled design. Twenty-seven patients with bilateral otosclerosis underwent stapedotomy in both ears, with randomized allocation of the surgical technique (endoscopic vs. microscopic) for the first operated ear. Air-bone gap (ABG) and ABG gain were measured at least 12 months postoperatively. Postoperative outcomes including pain (Visual Analog Scale-VAS), dizziness, early-term (day 1) and late-term (6 months) dysgeusia were evaluated. The Glasgow Benefit Inventory (GBI) assessed health-related quality of life at one month postoperatively, and operative time was measured. RESULTS: This study compared endoscopic (n = 27 ears) and microscopic (n = 27 ears) stapedotomy for otosclerosis. Both groups achieved similar hearing improvement with no significant differences in pre-operative and post-operative bone/air conduction thresholds, ABG, and ABG gain (all p > 0.05). The endoscopic stapedotomy group demonstrated reduced postoperative pain (lower VAS scores, p < 0.001), lower early dysgeusia (3.7% vs. 33.3%, p = 0.005), shorter operative time (47.3 vs. 75.4 min, p < 0.001) and improved patient-reported outcomes (higher GBI score, p = 0.014) when compared to microscopic stapedotomy group. No significant differences were observed in postoperative dizziness or late-term dysgeusia between groups. CONCLUSION: This study found similar hearing improvement with both endoscopic and microscopic stapedotomy for otosclerosis. However, the endoscopic approach showed advantages in reduced postoperative pain, early dysgeusia, and operative time, with improved patient-reported quality of life. These findings suggest endoscopic stapedotomy as a valuable alternative to the conventional microscopic approach.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to explore ocular manifestations in ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV), focusing on granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), and microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) and to examine the associations with laboratory parameters and other systemic manifestations. METHODS: This retrospective study reviewed data from 533 AAV patients across two major Chinese medical centers from January 2016 to November 2023. Data including diagnosis, cranial manifestations of disease, ocular complications, and laboratory parameters were analyzed. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses assessed associations across disease manifestations. Machine learning models were also utilized to predict the risk of retinal/eye involvement in AAV patients. RESULTS: Among 533 patients (210 GPA, 217 MPA, 99 EGPA, and 7 unclassified AAV), ocular complications were observed in 20.64% of them, with a distribution of 36.67% in GPA, 7.37% in MPA, and 18.18% in EGPA. The most common ocular manifestations included scleritis and retro-orbital mass/dacryocystitis, which were notably prevalent in GPA patients. Retinal involvement was observed in 9.09% of EGPA cases. The machine learning models yielded that eosinophil percentage (EOS%), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), and CD4 + T cell/CD8 + T cell ratio (T4/T8) can predict retinal involvement. Furthermore, the white blood cell, EOS%, APTT, IgA, hsCRP, PR3-ANCA, and T4/T8 can predict eye involvement. CONCLUSION: Ocular manifestations are a prevalent complication across all forms of AAV. Predictive models developed through machine learning offer promising tools for early intervention and tailored patient care. This necessitates a multidisciplinary approach, integrating rheumatology and ophthalmology expertise for optimal patient outcomes.

This study examines diatom assemblages in the Matsu Archipelago, an area influenced by Minjiang River runoff. It focuses on harmful algal blooms (HABs) that occurred between August 2021 and July 2022. Utilizing 18S rRNA metabarcoding and microscopic analysis, we observed a significant diatom bloom during early summer runoff, peaking at 5 × 105 cells L-1. The research reveals dynamic community changes during the runoff season, with dominant genera including Pseudo-nitzschia, Chaetoceros, and Skeletonema. Skeletonema cell density correlated with NO3 levels, Chaetoceros had a slight PO4 affinity, and Pseudo-nitzschia showed a negative correlation with Skeletonema. Pseudo-nitzschia, which prefers high light and pH conditions, had notably high concentrations in the flood season and in the autumn. In both, it was dominated by potential toxin-producing species - P. multistriata and P. pungens during the flooding, and P. cuspidate in the autumn. These findings highlight the intricate relationship between diatom dynamics and environmental factors, providing essential insights for managing HABs, especially Pseudo-nitzschia species, amidst environmental changes.

Aspergillus fungi constitute a pivotal element within ecosystems, serving as both contributors of biologically active compounds and harboring the potential to cause various diseases across living organisms. The organism's proteolytic enzyme complex, termed the degradome, acts as an intermediary in its dynamic interaction with the surrounding environment. Using techniques such as genome and transcriptome sequencing, alongside protein prediction methodologies, we identified putative extracellular peptidases within Aspergillus ochraceus VKM-F4104D. Following manual annotation procedures, a total of 11 aspartic, 2 cysteine, 2 glutamic, 21 serine, 1 threonine, and 21 metallopeptidases were attributed to the extracellular degradome of A. ochraceus VKM-F4104D. Among them are enzymes with promising applications in biotechnology, potential targets and agents for antifungal therapy, and microbial antagonism factors. Thus, additional functionalities of the extracellular degradome, extending beyond mere protein substrate digestion for nutritional purposes, were demonstrated.

Candida albicans is often implicated in nosocomial infections with fatal consequences. Its virulence is contributed to hydrolytic enzymes and biofilm formation. Previous research focused on studying these virulence factors individually. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the impact of biofilm formation on the hydrolytic activity using an adapted low-cost method. Eleven strains of C. albicans were used. The biofilms were formed on pre-treated silicone discs using 24-well plates and then deposited on the appropriate agar to test each enzyme, while the planktonic cells were conventionally seeded. Biofilms were analysed using Raman spectroscopy, fluorescent and scanning electron microscopy. The adapted method provided an evaluation of hydrolytic enzymes activity in C. albicans biofilm and showed that sessile cells had a higher phospholipase and proteinase activities compared with planktonic cells. These findings were supported by spectroscopic and microscopic analyses, which provided valuable insights into the virulence mechanisms of C. albicans during biofilm formation.

The genetic variety and habitats of Camptophora species, generally known as black yeast, have not been clarified. In this study, we re-evaluated Camptophora based on morphological observations and phylogenetic analyses. Because prior investigations on Camptophora only included a few strains/specimens, 24 Camptophora-related strains were newly obtained from 13 leaf samples of various plant species to redefine the genetic and species concepts of Camptophora. Their molecular phylogenetic relationships were examined using small subunit nuclear ribosomal DNA (nSSU, 18S rDNA), the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rDNA operon, the large subunit nuclear ribosomal DNA (LSU, 28S rDNA), ß-tubulin, the second largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (rpb2), and mitochondrial small subunit DNA (mtSSU). Single- and multi-locus analyses using nSSU-ITS-LSU-rpb2-mtSSU revealed a robust phylogenetic relationship among Camptophora species within Chaetothyriaceae. Camptophora species could be distinguished from other chaetothyriaceous genera by their snake-shaped conidia with microcyclic conidiation and loosely interwoven mycelial masses. Based on the results of phylogenetic analyses, two undescribed lineages were recognized, and Ca. schimae was excluded from the genus. ITS sequence comparison with environmental DNA sequences revealed that the distribution of the genus is restricted to the Asia-Pacific region. Camptophora has been isolated or detected from abrupt sources, and this was attributed to its microcycle. The mechanisms driving genetic diversity within species are discussed with respect to their phyllosphere habitats.

This case demonstrates the utility of intestinal ultrasound in inflammatory bowel diseases outside of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. We describe the utility of intestinal ultrasound in monitoring disease activity and treatment response in a patient with microscopic colitis.
