Background: An acute abdomen is a medical emergency that requires early diagnosis and treatment. In pregnancy, this process is significantly more challenging, and radiological findings are sometimes unclear due to the enlarged uterus displacing other structures. Moreover, endometriosis-related complications are rare, and the disease is often undiagnosed. Case presentation: We report a case of acute perforation of the cecum and appendix during pregnancy (35 weeks of gestation) caused by a previously unknown, deep infiltrating endometriosis with focal ulceration of the affected bowel wall, which sonographically seemed to be acute appendicitis. Conclusion: Despite the relatively low risk, clinicians should be aware of possible endometriosis-associated complications in pregnancy with potentially life-threatening events, even in previously unknown endometriosis. Further studies should evaluate intestinal complications during pregnancy in relation to previous treatment of intestinal endometriosis (conservative vs. surgical).

BACKGROUND: Machine learning (ML) models can yield faster and more accurate medical diagnoses; however, developing ML models is limited by a lack of high-quality labeled training data. Crowdsourced labeling is a potential solution but can be constrained by concerns about label quality. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine whether a gamified crowdsourcing platform with continuous performance assessment, user feedback, and performance-based incentives could produce expert-quality labels on medical imaging data. METHODS: In this diagnostic comparison study, 2384 lung ultrasound clips were retrospectively collected from 203 emergency department patients. A total of 6 lung ultrasound experts classified 393 of these clips as having no B-lines, one or more discrete B-lines, or confluent B-lines to create 2 sets of reference standard data sets (195 training clips and 198 test clips). Sets were respectively used to (1) train users on a gamified crowdsourcing platform and (2) compare the concordance of the resulting crowd labels to the concordance of individual experts to reference standards. Crowd opinions were sourced from DiagnosUs (Centaur Labs) iOS app users over 8 days, filtered based on past performance, aggregated using majority rule, and analyzed for label concordance compared with a hold-out test set of expert-labeled clips. The primary outcome was comparing the labeling concordance of collated crowd opinions to trained experts in classifying B-lines on lung ultrasound clips. RESULTS: Our clinical data set included patients with a mean age of 60.0 (SD 19.0) years; 105 (51.7%) patients were female and 114 (56.1%) patients were White. Over the 195 training clips, the expert-consensus label distribution was 114 (58%) no B-lines, 56 (29%) discrete B-lines, and 25 (13%) confluent B-lines. Over the 198 test clips, expert-consensus label distribution was 138 (70%) no B-lines, 36 (18%) discrete B-lines, and 24 (12%) confluent B-lines. In total, 99,238 opinions were collected from 426 unique users. On a test set of 198 clips, the mean labeling concordance of individual experts relative to the reference standard was 85.0% (SE 2.0), compared with 87.9% crowdsourced label concordance (P=.15). When individual experts' opinions were compared with reference standard labels created by majority vote excluding their own opinion, crowd concordance was higher than the mean concordance of individual experts to reference standards (87.4% vs 80.8%, SE 1.6 for expert concordance; P<.001). Clips with discrete B-lines had the most disagreement from both the crowd consensus and individual experts with the expert consensus. Using randomly sampled subsets of crowd opinions, 7 quality-filtered opinions were sufficient to achieve near the maximum crowd concordance. CONCLUSIONS: Crowdsourced labels for B-line classification on lung ultrasound clips via a gamified approach achieved expert-level accuracy. This suggests a strategic role for gamified crowdsourcing in efficiently generating labeled image data sets for training ML systems.

BACKGROUND: Aortic dissection (AD) is a vascular emergency with time-dependent mortality. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and AD risk score (ADRS) have been proposed as diagnostic tools to risk stratify patients and reduce time to diagnosis. STUDY OBJECTIVE: We evaluate POCUS findings and ADRS in a retrospective cohort of patients with known type A AD. The objective of this study is to describe the prevalence of POCUS findings and ADRS in this population. METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study of patients with acute type A AD as confirmed on computed tomography scan over a 12-year period from 2008 to 2020, with a subgroup analysis of patients who received POCUS in the emergency department. ADRS was calculated and POCUS findings were reviewed. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the distribution of POCUS findings. RESULTS: Ninety-one patients met inclusion criteria. POCUS was performed in 41 but only 35 had images of adequate quality for inclusion. Of the POCUS images available, 30/35 (86%) patients had a POCUS finding consistent with dissection and 5/35 (14%) had no findings on POCUS. Twelve percent (11/91) of patients had ADRS = 0. Two patients with ADRS = 0 received POCUS, and one patient had no findings on POCUS. CONCLUSION: Although POCUS provides rapid information in the diagnosis of type A AD, 14% of patients with images available for review had no findings on POCUS. Of the whole cohort, 12% had an ADRS = 0. Further studies are needed to identify an optimal diagnostic pathway for this catastrophic disease.

Hepatic portal venous gas (HPVG) indicates an abnormal gas buildup within the portal venous system, associated with severe medical conditions. Causes include heightened intraluminal pressure, bowel wall disruption, bowel necrosis, and pathogenic bacteria. Previously considered indicative of extensive bowel necrosis requiring surgery, HPVG is now recognized in non-surgical conditions, posing diagnostic challenges. Doppler-coupled sonography, particularly sensitive for HPVG detection, serves as a valuable initial screening tool. This article synthesizes findings from ultrasound methods for assessing portal venous gas reported in the literature and introduces a new approach using Color M-mode ultrasound.

Up to 50% of patients admitted for heart failure (HF) have congestion at discharge despite diagnostic and therapeutic advances. Both persistent congestion and diuretic resistance are associated with worse prognosis. The combination of hypertonic saline and loop diuretic has shown promising results in different studies. However, it has not yet achieved a standardized use, partly because of the great heterogeneity in the concentration of sodium chloride, the dose of diuretic or the amount of sodium in the diet. Classically, the movement of water from the intracellular space due to an increase in extracellular osmolarity has been postulated as the main mechanism involved. However, chloride deficit is postulated as the main up-regulator of plasma volume changes, and its correction may be the main mechanism involved. This "chloride centric" approach to heart failure opens the door to therapeutic strategies that would include diuretics to correct hypochloremia, as well as sodium free chloride supplementation.

INTRODUCTION: The emergence of handheld ultrasound devices capable of connecting to cell phones or tablets heralds a significant advancement in medical technology, particularly within the field of obstetrics. These devices offer the promise of immediate bedside ultrasound examinations, potentially revolutionizing patient care by enabling fetal assessments in diverse settings. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This prospective study aimed to validate the reliability of non-piezo, chip-based handheld ultrasound devices in clinical obstetric practice. Conducted in a university hospital obstetric ward, the study included 100 pregnant women between 17 and 41 weeks of gestation. Participants underwent ultrasound examinations using both conventional and portable point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) devices to compare the accuracy in estimating fetal weight and other parameters, such as cardiac activity, fetal presentation, placental location, and amniotic fluid volume. The reliability and agreement between the devices were assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients, Bland-Altman plots, and Pearson correlation coefficients. RESULTS: The results show a near-perfect agreement (0.98) and correlation (r = 0.98, p < 0.001) for estimated fetal weight and most biometry measurements between the two types of ultrasound devices, with slight deviations in head circumference and amniotic fluid index measurements. Subgroup analysis revealed variations in agreement and correlation rates with higher BMI and advanced gestational age, indicating areas for further refinement. CONCLUSIONS: These findings affirm the high reliability of handheld ultrasound devices for basic obstetric ultrasound evaluations, supporting their integration into daily clinical practice. This technology improves the flexibility and immediacy of prenatal care, although further research is needed to optimize its application across patient populations and treatment settings.

Introduction: Cancer rates are rising in low- and middle-income countries. While point-of-care ultrasound is now available globally and could serve to mitigate against this rise, its use in diagnosing cancers is inconsistent in lower-resourced healthcare contexts. This proof-of-concept study investigates the feasibility of an ultrasound training concept in a low-resource setting. It evaluates whether this educational concept led to improved knowledge and application of ultrasound diagnostics, cancer screening and staging and patient care. Material and methods: The curriculum was developed through expert exchange and is based on the World Health Organisation's Manual of Diagnostic Ultrasound. It consisted of two didactic components: an on-site training phase across 5 days for a total of 24 hours, and a digital follow-up phase involving the meeting of a bi-weekly tumor board online. The learning objectives of the on-site training were normal imaging and recognition of common pathologies of the abdominal organs, vessels, lymph nodes, female breasts and lungs. The virtual tumour boards met to discuss cases and ultrasound findings, thus aiding continuing professional development after the training sessions had concluded. The face-to-face course component was accompanied by tests given before and after training as well as an evaluation sheet (Likert-scale with 1 = 'completely/very good' and 7 'not at all/very poor'). Results: Of 20 participants from a rural hospital in Tanzania, a total of 16 were included in the analysis (clinical officers n = 6; medical officers n = 10). A significant increase in knowledge (p < 0.01) was measured both in the subjective self-assessment and in the theoretical competence tests. In multivariate linear regression, the status 'medical officers yes' (ß = 5.4; p = 0.04) had a significant influence on theory test results at T2. During the 24 virtual tumour board meetings, 28 cases were discussed and a continuous improvement in image acquisition quality was observed. Conclusion: The ultrasound education concept comes with a sustainable increase in clinical competence and improved oncological ultrasound screening locally. There is potential for the transfer of the concept to other locations, which can be explored in the future.

We present here a case of multidisciplinary management of a 20-year-old pregnant woman who presented with sudden paraplegia attributed to a large paraspinal tumor. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed compressive dorsal myelopathy due to an extramedullary tumor. Given the urgency of her symptoms and pregnancy status, a multidisciplinary team decided to proceed with surgery while avoiding radiation exposure (eg, O/C-arm). Intraoperative point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) was utilized for tumor localization and surgical guidance, facilitating successful gross total excision with minimal risk to the fetus. Postoperative recovery was uneventful, with improvement in muscle strength and preservation of the pregnancy. Beyond tumor localization, POCUS offers additional benefits in assessing maternal hemodynamics and detecting potential complications. This case highlights the utility of POCUS as a radiation-free theranostic imaging modality in pregnant patients with spinal tumors, enhancing safety in surgery and optimizing outcomes for both mother and fetus.

Background Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) skills are very useful in the management of acute patients. It is unknown how highly valued they are at the consultant level. The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of POCUS skills being listed as essential or desirable in consultant job advertisements for acute medicine (AM), intensive care medicine (ICM), and emergency medicine (EM) in the United Kingdom (UK). Methods We investigated the frequency with which POCUS skills are listed in person specification of consultant jobs advertised in the UK in three acute specialties (AM, ICM, and EM). Data were collected prospectively between May and June 2022 from the NHS Jobs website. Results A total of 286 jobs were identified, and 11 jobs (3.85%) listed POCUS skills as either essential or desirable. In AM consultant jobs, only two (1.83%) categorized POCUS as desirable or essential compared to five (11.6%) in ICM and four (3%) in EM. Conclusion POCUS skills are mentioned in the person specification in a minority of consultant job advertisements in acute specialties and currently do not seem to be widely viewed as essential or desirable for consultant practice in these specialties. It may be due to not many consultants are currently trained for this new skill, which in turn has led to the scarcity of the skill set demanded by the employing trusts in the UK.

Patients with chief complaints of musculoskeletal pain comprise a significant portion of emergency department (ED) visits. Identifying and utilizing methods to expedite diagnosis in these cases may help reduce ED crowding, improve outcomes, and increase patient satisfaction. We present a case in which a 52-year-old man presented to the ED with complaints of unilateral right knee pain, swelling, and stiffness. An initial plain film X-ray showed a large suprapatellar effusion over the patient's arthritic right knee. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) was used by an ED physician to facilitate a suprapatellar arthrocentesis. The patient tolerated the procedure well, remarking that he had no pain during or after its completion. POCUS can increase the accuracy, efficacy, and speed of procedures for which physicians have traditionally used landmarks or formal radiology consultations. While POCUS can prove helpful, barriers to its widespread implementation still remain. However, these barriers can be addressed with relative ease.

BACKGROUND: POCUS is valuable in primary care, yet outpatient-specific point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) curriculum integration into internal medicine (IM) residency is limited. We addressed this gap by developing a thyroid POCUS workshop for IM residents. AIM: Develop and implement an educational curriculum to integrate thyroid POCUS into an IM residency program and evaluate the impact on resident knowledge, perceived skills, and attitudes. SETTING: The study was conducted in a resident primary care clinic at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Residency Program in Internal Medicine at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. PARTICIPANTS: All 108 IM residents (PGY1-3) in one program participated in the study during their ambulatory clinic block. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Residents participated in a 1-hour workshop involving a didactic session and two breakout groups: one for hands-on practice and another for case-based discussions with image review. PROGRAM EVALUATION: Residents completed pre- and post-session surveys assessing knowledge, perceived skills, and attitudes toward thyroid POCUS. These data showed statistically significant increases in all assessed areas. DISCUSSION: Integrating thyroid POCUS into an IM residency curriculum significantly improved resident knowledge, attitudes, and perceived skills related to these exams. Residents valued this learning experience and expressed intentions to incorporate it into their future practice.

BACKGROUND: POCUS training courses are effective at improving knowledge and skills, but few studies have followed learners longitudinally post-course to understand facilitators, barriers, and changes in POCUS use in clinical practice. We conducted a prospective observational study of physicians who attended 11 standardized POCUS training courses between 2017 and 2019 in Japan. Physicians who attended a standardized POCUS course were surveyed about their current frequency of POCUS use of the heart, lung, abdomen, and lower extremity veins, and perceived barriers and facilitators to POCUS use in clinical practice. RESULTS: Data were analyzed from 112 completed surveys (response rate = 20%). A majority of responding physicians were faculty (77%) in internal medicine (69%) affiliated with community hospitals (55%). The mean delay between course attendance and survey response was 50.3 months. A significant increase in POCUS use from < 1 to ≥ 1 time per week was seen for all organ systems after 50 months post-course (p < 0.01). Approximately half of course participants reported an increase in the frequency of cardiac (61%), lung (53%), vascular (44%), and abdominal (50%) ultrasound use. General facilitators of POCUS use were easy access to ultrasound machines (63%), having a colleague with whom to learn POCUS (47%), and adequate departmental support (46%). General barriers included lack of opportunities for POCUS training (47%), poor access to ultrasound machines (38%), and limited time for POCUS training (33%). In the group with increased POCUS usage, specific facilitators reported were enhanced POCUS knowledge, improved image acquisition skills, and greater self-confidence in performing POCUS. Conversely, the group without increased POCUS usage reported lack of supervising physicians, low confidence, and insufficient training opportunities as specific barriers. CONCLUSIONS: Approximately half of physicians reported an increase in cardiac, lung, vascular, and abdominal POCUS use > 4 years after attending a POCUS training course. In addition to improving access to ultrasound machines and training opportunities, a supportive local clinical environment, including colleagues to share experiences in learning POCUS and local experts to supervise scanning, is important to foster ongoing POCUS practice and implementation into clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Immunoglobulin A vasculitis, historically known as Henoch-Schönlein purpura, is a rare form of autoimmune-induced vasculitis most common in children. This disease is characterized by a purpuric rash, arthritis, digestive tract complication, and renal inflammation (Hopkins). CASE REPORT: We present the case of a 78-year-old man in the emergency department with findings of weakness, abdominal pain, and bloody diarrhea for 3 days and a new-onset bilateral lower extremity rash. Diagnostic imaging and labs diagnosed this patient with immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) with associated acute kidney injury and abdominal mesenteric edema. Why Should an Emergency Physician be Aware of This? Recognition of IgAV by emergency physicians and assessment of multiple organ involvement is critical to expedite treatment and minimize complications. Particularly, physicians should consider and recognize the increased severity and different presentation of IgAV in adults in comparison with the more widely known manifestation in children.

BACKGROUND: Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) is an imaging technique performed bedside. To date, few published studies have reported the usefulness of multiorgan POCUS in Geriatrics. The objective of this study was to describe the utility of multiorgan POCUS in the care of older adults admitted to geriatric care settings. METHODOLOGY: Observational retrospective study of patients admitted to geriatric settings in Spain and UK. Multiorgan POCUS was performed when there was a specific clinical suspicion or unexplained torpid clinical course despite physical examination and complementary tests. A geriatrician with a certificate degree in comprehensive ultrasound and long-standing experience in POCUS carried out POCUS. All patients underwent multiorgan POCUS in a cephalo-caudal manner. RESULTS: Out of 368 patients admitted to geriatric units, 29% met the inclusion criteria. Average age was 85.9 years (SD ± 6.1). POCUS identified 235 clinically significant findings (2.2 per patient). Findings were classified as 37.9% confirmed diagnosis, 16.6% ruled out diagnosis, 14.9% unsuspected relevant diagnoses and 30.6% clinical follow-ups. POCUS findings led to changes in pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment in 66.3 and 69.2% respectively, resulted in completion or avoidance of invasive procedures in 17.8 and 15.9%, respectively, facilitating early referrals to other specialities in 14.9% and avoiding transfers in 25.2% of patients. CONCLUSION: Multiorgan POCUS is a tool that aids in the assessment and treatment of patients receiving care in geriatrics units. These results show the usefulness of POCUS in the management of older adults and suggest its inclusion in any curriculum of Geriatric Medicine speciality training.

BACKGROUND: Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) consists of a range of increasingly important imaging modalities across a variety of specialties. Despite a variety of accreditation pathways available in the UK, lung POCUS training remains difficult to deliver and accreditation rates remain suboptimal. We describe a multidisciplinary, multi-centre, and multi-pronged approach to lung POCUS education within a region. METHODS: A survey was conducted in a region. From these results, bottlenecks were identified for improvement. We utilised key stages in an established accreditation pathway, and the Action Learning process. Analysing participant feedback, consensus amongst the team, regional educational needs, and leveraging the expertise within the faculty, we implemented several solutions which were multidisciplinary, multi-centre, and multi-pronged. We also set up a database across several accreditation pathways to facilitate supervision and assessment of rotational trainees. RESULTS: Utilising the Action Learning process, we implemented several improvements at elements of the lung ultrasound accreditation pathways. An initial regional survey identified key barriers to accreditation: lack of courses (52%), lack of mentors (93%), and difficulty arranging directly supervised scans (73%). A multidisciplinary team of trainers was assembled. Regular courses were organised and altered based on feedback and anecdotal educational needs within the region. Courses were set up to also facilitate continuing professional development and exchange of knowledge and ideas amongst trainers. The barrier of supervision was removed through the organisation of regular supervision sessions, facilitating up to fifty scans per half day per trainer. We collected feedback from courses and optimised them. Remote mentoring platforms were utilised to encourage asynchronous supervision. A database of trainers was collated to facilitate triggered assessments. These approaches promoted a conducive environment and a commitment to learning. Repeat survey results support this. CONCLUSION: Lung ultrasound accreditation remains a complex educational training pathway. Utilising an education framework, recruiting a multidisciplinary team, ensuring a multi-pronged approach, and fostering a commitment to learning can improve accreditation success.

It is known that in African countries the health condition is problematic, both from a diagnostic and therapeutic point of view. Patients have to travel long distances to access medical care. Many cannot afford the cost of transportation to a medical facility. Ultrasound its into the scenario of healthcare imaging with limited resources, as an effective, economical, repeatable diagnostic tool, requiring low maintenance. Ultrasound tools in fact are relatively cheap and machines are easy to move, making them adapt to be taken to a rural setting where they are most needed. However ultrasound exams are not easy to perform and they need an adequate training. The spread of POCUS (point-of-care "focused" ultrasound) worldwide could be useful in Africa to identify high-risk patients. These cases selected in rural setting by POCUS can be referred to hospitals for further treatment. To deal with these situations it is necessary to form doctors and/or paramedical staff capable of guaranteeing a qualitatively adequate service. Therefore the need for basic training is greater in developing countries. Sharing successful educational strategies should advance the integration of ultrasound into the university medical school curricula. This will ensure that recently qualified doctors can practice their basic skills accurately and independently.

Surfactant replacement for respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is currently guided by oxygen (FiO2) requirement in preterm neonates. Lung ultrasound (LUS) has emerged as an important predictive tool; however, there is a paucity of evidence from developing countries. The objective of this study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy of the LUS score in comparison to standard criteria based on FiO2 requirement for prediction of surfactant requirement. In this prospective study, preterm neonates of < 34 weeks' gestation with RDS were included within 2 h of life. Surfactant was administered if the FiO2 requirement exceeded 30%. Baseline characteristics, respiratory parameters, and LUS clips were recorded soon after birth and compared between the surfactant and non-surfactant groups. LUS scoring was later performed by masked assessors which was not used in the management of neonates. Among 82 neonates (mean gestation 30.6 weeks and weight 1375 g) included in the study, 33 (40.2%) received surfactant. The surfactant group had a higher Silverman score, required higher FiO2 and mean airway pressure, and needed invasive ventilation more frequently. The mean (± SD) LUS score was significantly higher in the surfactant (9.4 ± 3.2) compared to the non-surfactant group (5.1 ± 2.1). The diagnostic accuracy of LUS scoring was determined by ROC curve analysis (AUC (95% CI): 0.83 (0.74-0.92), p < 0.01). A cutoff score of ≥ 8 for LUS was considered optimal for the prediction of surfactant requirement (sensitivity and specificity (95% CI) of 70% (51-84) and 80% (66-90), respectively).    Conclusion: Lung ultrasound is a valid diagnostic tool for the prediction of surfactant requirements in resource-limited settings. What is Known: • Lung ultrasound has a good diagnostic accuracy in predicting the need for surfactant administration in preterm neonates in developed countries, but its role in developing countries is unclear. What is New: • Lung ultrasound proved to be a valid diagnostic tool in predicting surfactant replacement therapy in resource-limited settings. • The diagnostic performance of lung ultrasound was better in neonates on non-invasive ventilation, compared to invasive ventilation.

Purpose: Muscle ultrasound has emerged as a promising method in the diagnostic work-up of sarcopenia. The objective of this scoping review was to explore the validity of muscle ultrasound against the latest sarcopenia definitions among older adults. Methods: We adhered to the PRISMA guidelines for scoping reviews. A systematic search of databases was performed by two independent reviewers. All articles comparing the performance of ultrasound to an internationally acknowledged sarcopenia definition among older adults (≥60 years) and published between 2019/01/01 (the year updated sarcopenia definitions were introduced) and 2023/11/15 were included. Data were extracted and collated by muscle and muscle parameters. Results: Out of 2290 articles screened, six studies comprising 24 validity tests among a total of 1619 older adults (mean age 74.1 years, 52.2% female) were included. The validity tests investigated the rectus femoris (n = 7), biceps brachii (n = 5), gastrocnemius medialis (n = 4), tibialis anterior (n = 4), soleus (n = 3), and rectus abdominis (n = 1). The parameter muscle thickness (MT) (n = 14) was most commonly measured. The latest European and Asian sarcopenia definitions (EWGSOP2, AWGS2) were applied as reference standards in four validity tests each. None of the studies used the Sarcopenia Definition and Outcome Consortium (SDOC) criteria. The highest area under the curve AUC (0.92, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.89-0.94) was found for the muscle thickness of the rectus femoris muscle. Due to substantial heterogeneity among the studies, pooling of data using a meta-analytic approach was not feasible. Conclusion: Limited number of studies have examined the validity of muscle ultrasound for diagnosing sarcopenia based on recent definitions among older adults. Thereby, muscle thickness of the rectus femoris showed promising results regarding validity. Further studies are needed to investigate the validity of key muscles and to validate muscle ultrasound among older hospitalized patients.

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) integration into neonatology offers transformative potential for diagnostics and treatment, enhancing immediacy and precision of clinical decision-making in this vulnerable patient population. This systematic review aims to synthesize evidence on POCUS applications, benefits, challenges, and educational strategies in neonatology. Literature search was conducted using SPIDER scheme keywords and MeSH terms related to POCUS and neonatology. Studies focusing on POCUS applications, its impact on clinical outcomes, and educational interventions for skill acquisition were included and analyzed using standardized tools, followed by a narrative synthesis of the findings. The search yielded 68 relevant publications, encompassing original research, reviews, and guidelines. POCUS applications varied across cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and abdominal assessments. Key benefits included a reduced need for invasive procedures and rapid bedside diagnosis. Challenges included steep learning curves for clinicians and the need for standardized training and guidelines. Educational strategies highlighted the effectiveness of simulation-based training in enhancing ultrasound proficiency among neonatal care providers. POCUS represents a significant advancement in neonatal medicine, offering benefits for patient care. Addressing identified challenges through comprehensive training programs and developing standardized guidelines is crucial for optimized use. Future research should focus on evaluating educational outcomes and long-term impacts of POCUS integration into neonatal care.
