RESUMO

The early monitoring and inactivation of bacteria are of crucial importance in preventing the further spread of foodborne pathogens. Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), a prototypical foodborne pathogen, is widely present in the natural environment and has the capability to trigger a range of diseases at low concentrations. In this work, we designed Fe3O4@SiO2-Au core-shell-satellite nanocomposites (NCs) modified with aptamer for efficient capture, high-sensitivity surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection, and photothermal therapy (PTT) against S. aureus. Fe3O4@SiO2-Au NCs with tunable Au nanocrystal nanogaps were prepared. By combining the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method and experimental results, we studied the electric field distribution of Fe3O4@SiO2-Au under different Au nanogaps and ultimately obtained the optimal SERS substrate FSA-60. The modification of aptamer on the surfaces of FSA-60 could be used for the specific capture and selective detection of S. aureus, achieving a detection limit of as low as 50 cfu/mL. Furthermore, Apt-FSA-60 possessed excellent photothermal properties, demonstrating the strong photothermal killing ability against S. aureus. Therefore, Apt-FSA-60 is a promising high-sensitivity SERS substrate and efficient photothermal agent and is expected to be widely applied and promoted in future disease prevention and treatment.

RESUMO

The present work investigates the structural and luminescence behaviour of Dy3+-Sm3+ co-doped glass ceramics obtained through heat treatment of precursor glasses. The growth of SiO2 polycrystalline particles and evolution of these crystallites in the glass domain are witnessed via XRD and FESEM study. The presence of network vibrational bands, hydroxyl groups and the increased quantity of bridging oxygens (BOs) in glass ceramics are analysed through FTIR spectroscopy study. The absorption study (UV-Visible-NIR) showed the possible electronic transitions of Dy3+ and Sm3+ ions. The red shift in the absorption band edges and the lower bandgap values are obtained as a result of improved heat treatment in glass ceramics. Emission studies show the enhanced luminescence intensity of glass ceramics under 350 and 402 nm excitations. Decay measurement of glass ceramics showed the improved lifetimes of Dy3+ and Sm3+ ions to have appeared in microseconds (×10-6 s). The colour characteristics of glass ceramics analysed using CIE colour chromaticity diagram and correlated colour temperature (CCT) values suggest the neutral to cool white light emissions. Therefore, prepared glass ceramics with SiO2 polycrystalline phase are considered to be suitable materials in cool white LEDs applications.

RESUMO

Cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr3) perovskite nanocrystals are becoming a popular alternative to chalcogenide quantum dots because of their bright green fluorescence and high color purity. However, owing to the poor stability caused by their highly ionic nature and the dynamic binding of long-chain capping ligands, their practical applications are limited. Although (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) is a frequently used insulating material for wrapping CsPbBr3nanocrystals, it often causes surface etching. To address this issue, we introduced oleic acid into the anti-solvent toluene to inhibit the etching effect of APTES using a modified room-temperature ligand-assisted reprecipitation process. We utilized in situ time-dependent photoluminescence measurements to study the formation kinetics of CsPbBr3nanocrystals and determine the optimal ligands ratio. This innovative approach enables precise control over CsPbBr3@SiO2nanoparticles synthesis, yielding uniformly shaped nanocrystals with a silica shell, a consistent size around 10.17 ± 1.6 nm, and enhanced photoluminescence quantum yields ranging from 90% and 100%. The photoluminescence lifetimes of our CsPbBr3@SiO2nanoparticles were significantly prolonged owing to a reduction in non-radiative recombination. This boosts their stability in thermal and polar solvent environments, making them superior candidates for use in photonic devices.

RESUMO

PMMA/PEG and PMMA/PEG doped with SiO2, TiO2, and Al2O3 were fabricated using the solution-casting technique. The composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), which revealed that the amorphous nature of PMMA/PEG blend doped with Al2O3 was hindered by the crystalline nature of those doped with SiO2 and TiO2. The absorption of PMMA/PEG blend doped with Al2O3 is higher, band gap energies were decreased from 4.90 eV for PMMA/PEG blend to 4.03 eV, 3.09 eV, and 2.09 eV for SiO2, TiO2, and Al2O3 doped PMMA/PEG blend, respectively. The dielectric constant, ε' has a high value (2 × 104) for samples PMMA/PEG and SiO2/PMMA/PEG. While dielectric loss ε ″ -values decreased to < 100 for TiO2/PMMA/PEG and Al2O3/PMMA/PEG. Further, the fabricated composite SiO2/PMMA/PEG led to improvement the optical and dielectric properties compared with PMMA/PEG for optoelectronic such as manufacturing of optical fiber cables application. The results show TiO2/PMMA/PEG and Al2O3/PMMA/PEG are multifunctional can be used as low-permittivity nanodielectric and substrates to design the next generation of flexible electronic devices.

RESUMO

Silicon monoxide (SiO) has attracted considerable interest as anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, their poor initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) and conductivity limit large-scale applications. Prelithiation and carbon-coating are common and effective strategies in industry for enhancing the electrochemical performance of SiO. However, the involved heat-treatment processes inevitably lead to coarsening of active silicon phases, posing a significant challenge in industrial applications. Herein, the differences in microstructures and electrochemical performances between prelithiated SiO with a pre-coated carbon layer (SiO@C@PLi) and SiO subjected to carbon-coating after prelithiation (SiO@PLi@C) are investigated. A preliminary carbon layer on the surface of SiO before prelithiation is found that can suppress active Si phase coarsening effectively and regulate the post-prelithiation phase content. The strategic optimization of the sequence where prelithiation and carbon-coating processes of SiO exert a critical influence on its regulation of microstructure and electrochemical performances. As a result, SiO@C@PLi exhibits a higher ICE of 88.0%, better cycling performance and lower electrode expansion than SiO@PLi@C. The pouch-type full-cell tests demonstrate that SiO@C@PLi/Graphite||NCM811 delivers a superior capacity retention of 91% after 500 cycles. This work provides invaluable insights into industrial productions of SiO anodes through optimizing the microstructure of SiO in prelithiation and carbon-coating processes.

RESUMO

Background: Inhibiting ROS overproduction is considered a very effective strategy for the treatment of peripheral nerve injuries, and Se has a remarkable antioxidant effect; however, since the difference between the effective concentration of Se and the toxic dose is not large, we synthesized a nanomaterial that can release Se slowly so that it can be used more effectively. Methods: Se@SiO2 NPs were synthesized using a mixture of Cu2-x Se nanocrystals, and the mechanism of action of Se@SiO2 NPs was initially explored by performing sequencing, immunofluorescence staining and Western blotting of cellular experiments. The mechanism of action of Se@SiO2 NPs was further determined by performing behavioral assays after animal experiments and by sampling the material for histological staining, immunofluorescence staining, and ELISA. The effects, mechanisms and biocompatibility of Se@SiO2 NPs for peripheral nerve regeneration were determined. Results: Porous Se@SiO2 was successfully synthesized, had good particle properties, and could release Se slowly. CCK-8 experiments revealed that the optimal experimental doses were 100 µM H2O2 and 200 µg/mL Se@SiO2, and RNA-seq revealed that porous Se@SiO2 was associated with cell proliferation, apoptosis, and the PI3K/AKT pathway. WB showed that porous Se@SiO2 could increase the expression of cell proliferation antigens (PCNA and S100) and antiapoptotic proteins (Bcl-2), decrease the expression of proapoptotic proteins (Bax), and increase the expression of antioxidative stress proteins (Nrf2, HO-1, and SOD2). EdU cell proliferation and ROS fluorescence assays showed that porous Se@SiO2 promoted cell proliferation and reduced ROS levels. The therapeutic effect of LY294002 (a PI3K/AKT pathway inhibitor) was decreased significantly and its effect was lost when it was added simultaneously with porous Se@SiO2. Animal experiments revealed that the regenerated nerve fiber density, myelin thickness, axon area, gastrocnemius muscle wet-to-weight ratio, myofiber area, sciatic nerve function index (SFI), CMAP, apoptotic cell ratio, and levels of antioxidative stress proteins and anti-inflammatory factors were increased following the administration of porous Se@SiO2. The levels of oxidative stress proteins and anti-inflammatory factors were significantly greater in the Se@SiO2 group than in the PNI group, and the effect of LY294002 was decreased significantly and was lost when it was added simultaneously with porous Se@SiO2. Conclusion: Se@SiO2 NPs are promising, economical and effective Se-releasing nanomaterials that can effectively reduce ROS production, inhibit apoptosis and promote cell proliferation after nerve injury via the PI3K/AKT pathway, ultimately accelerating nerve regeneration. These findings could be used to design new, promising drugs for the treatment of peripheral nerve injury.

RESUMO

In recent years, TiO2-based catalysts have received extensive attention from researchers for their excellent oxidative desulfurization (ODS) performances. In this paper, a series of mesoporous TiO2/SiO2 catalysts with different TiO2 loadings are prepared, using an incipient wetness impregnation method with agricultural waste rice husk as both the silicon source and mesoporous template and tetrabutyl titanate as the titanium source. The effect of different TiO2 loadings on the ODS performance of the samples is investigated, and the appropriate TiO2 loading is 2.5%. Compared with pure TiO2, the 2.5%TiO2/SiO2 sample exhibits high catalytic activity for oxidative desulfurization. This is, on the one hand, due to the high specific surface area and mesopore volume of the 2.5%TiO2/SiO2 sample. On the other hand, it is due to the uniform dispersion of TiO2 grains with an average diameter of 6.1 nm on the surface of the mesoporous SiO2 carrier, which greatly increases the active sites of the 2.5%TiO2/SiO2 sample, thus improving the catalytic activity of the sample. The recycling performances of the 2.5%TiO2/SiO2 sample are further investigated. The results show that, after fifteen cycles, the 2.5%TiO2/SiO2 sample still maintains high conversions of dibenzothiophene (99.8%) and 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene (99.7%) without deactivation. In addition, the 2.5%TiO2/SiO2 sample treated with TBHP aqueous solution is characterized by the technique of UV-Vis, and the Ti-peroxo (Ti-OOtBu) species, the active intermediate for the ODS of bulky organic sulfides, is successfully captured. Finally, a possible reaction mechanism for the ODS process over the 2.5%TiO2/SiO2 sample is proposed.

RESUMO

We report the results of synthesis of zinc selenide (ZnSe) nanocrystals into SiO2/Si track templates formed by irradiation with 200 MeV Xe ions up to a fluence of 107 ions/cm2. Zinc selenide nanocrystals were obtained by chemical deposition from the alkaline aqueous solution. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy, and electrical measurements were used for characterization of synthesized ZnSe/SiO2nanoporous/Si nanocomposites. XRD data for as-deposited precipitates revealed the formation of ZnSe nanocrystals with cubic crystal structure, spatial syngony F-43m (216). According to non-empirical calculations using GGA-PBE and HSE06 functionals, ZnSe crystal is a direct-zone crystal with a minimum bandgap width of 2.36 eV and anisotropic electronic distribution. It was found that a thermal treatment of synthesized nanocomposites at 800 °C results in an increase in ZnSe nanocrystallites size as well as an increase in emission intensity of created precipitates in a broad UV-VIS spectra range. However, vacuum conditions of annealing still do not completely prevent the oxidation of zinc selenide, and a formation of hexagonal ZnO phase is registered in the annealed samples. The current-voltage characteristics of the synthesized nanocomposites proved to have n-type conductivity, as well as increased conductivity after annealing.

RESUMO

Mixing involves blending raw rubber or masticated rubber with additives using a rubber mixer, which is the most critical process in rubber production. The internal mixer, as the most important mixing equipment, experiences rotor wear during prolonged operation, affecting the gap between the mixer rotor and the chamber wall. This wear reduces mixing effectiveness, weakens filler dispersion, and ultimately impacts rubber performance. In recent years, as research on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and nanomaterials has deepened, their broad application prospects have become increasingly apparent. The objective of the present study is to understand and quantify rotor wear in rubber blends during the mixing process as influenced by multi-walled carbon nanotubes. This study found that with the increase in MWCNT content, the proportion of abrasive wear rises, while the proportion of corrosive wear decreases, leading to reduced overall wear. Compared to rubber without MWCNTs, the Payne effect decreased by 6.78%, 9.57%, 13.03%, 20.48%, and 26.06% with the addition of 1 phr, 3 phr, 5 phr, 7 phr, and 9 phr of MWCNTs, respectively. The friction coefficients between the rubber and metal increased by 6.31%, 8.57%, 25.43%, 39.31%, and 47.61%, while the metal wear rate decreased by 9.08%, 10.73%, 13.41%, 17.46%, and 25%. Conversely, the friction coefficients were reduced by 19.39%, 22.42%, 33.94%, 66.06%, and 76.36%.

RESUMO

Silicon dioxide (SiO2) from rice husk can be extracted and be used as support for Ni-based catalysts. The impregnation method (IM) is usually used for preparing Ni/SiO2 catalysts, but its catalytic activity in CO2 hydrogenation to CH4 remains unsatisfactory. In this work, we explored alternative preparation methods, using ammonia evaporation method (AEM) and hydrothermal method (HM) to prepare the catalysts. The results showed that the catalysts prepared by AEM and HM were significantly superior to that prepared by IM. Notably, the catalyst synthesized by AEM from sustainable silica exhibited the best performance, achieving 81.69% CO2 conversion and over 99% methane selectivity at low reaction temperature of 300 °C. The characterization techniques indicate that the Ni/SiO2-AEM catalyst can form nickel phyllosilicate with lamellar structure, leading to better Ni dispersion and higher specific surface area. Furthermore, the results of in-situ DRIFTS have revealed the potential catalytic mechanism over Ni/SiO2 catalysts, indicating that it involves pathways with both the CO* and HCOO* as the key intermediates.

RESUMO

Significant efforts have been dedicated to creating recyclable and efficient methods for treating waste dyes, including rhodamine B (RhB). Nevertheless, challenges such as complex operational techniques, high costs, energy consumption, and inefficacy in dye removal persist. Here, the synthesis and application of TiO2/Fe3O4/SiO2 for photocatalytic degradation of RhB dye pollutants have been explored. This research was initiated with magnetite (Fe3O4) synthesis using the coprecipitation method, followed by silica (SiO2) extraction from rice husk waste using the sol-gel process, and a hydrothermal method for synthesizing titanium dioxide (TiO2) and TiO2/Fe3O4/SiO2 nanocomposite. The crystalline structure of TiO2/Fe3O4/SiO2 was obtained with Fe3O4 as the core, while TiO2 and SiO2 as the shell. The particle size analysis showed the nanosize of TiO2/Fe3O4/SiO2 (1.04 ± 0.46 nm). TiO2/Fe3O4/SiO2 nanocomposite boasts a high surface area of 48.025 m2/g, 2.2 times higher than unmodified TiO2. This nanocomposite also displayed paramagnetic properties with a saturation magnetization of 9.117 emu/g, facilitating easy separation in photocatalytic applications. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2/Fe3O4/SiO2 exhibited effectively degraded RhB, achieving a degradation rate of 53.58% and an excellent rate constant of 0.7303 min-1. The RhB photodegradation in this study requires a moderate irradiation time (60 min), uses only a tiny amount of photocatalyst (100 mg), and does not need additional chemicals. Moreover, this study has another advantage of utilizing rice husk as a silica source, offering an eco-friendly and sustainable approach.

RESUMO

A fixed Nd3+ and varied Yb3+ ion concentration were incorporated in a Zinc-Silicate (SZNYX) composite solution using ex-situ sol-gel solution to fabricate a novel thin film (TF) on Si (100)-substrate. The upconversion luminescence (UCL) spectra of the thin films were measured under 980 nm laser excitation, with the most optimized result for Yb3+ ion concentration of 1.5 mol%. Additionally, a 2-D photoluminescence (PL) confocal mapping of the SZNY15-TF material confirmed uniform PL distribution throughout the space under the same excitation wavelength. Structural characterization via XRD revealed the tetragonal Zn2SiO4 nano-crystalline nature of the film at three distinct annealing temperatures. Morphological characterization using the Field-emission scanning electron Microscope (FESEM) coupled with energy dispersion spectrometer (EDS) affirmed the nanoflower structure and the purity of doping purity in the samples, respectively. These findings collectively confirm the promising UCL properties of the SZNYX-TF samples, suggesting potential applications in photonic.

RESUMO

Key neuronal functions have been successfully replicated in various hardware systems. Noticeable examples are neuronal networks constructed from memristors, which emulate complex electrochemical biological dynamics such as the efficacy and plasticity of a neuron. Neurons are highly active cells, communicating with chemical and electrical stimuli, but also emit light. These so-called biophotons are suspected to be a complementary vehicle to transport information across the brain. Here, we show that a memristor also releases photons during its operation akin to the production of neuronal light. Critical attributes of biophotons, such as self-generation, stochasticity, spectral coverage, sparsity, and correlation with the neuron's electrical activity, are replicated by our solid-state approach. Importantly, our time-resolved analysis of the correlated current transport and photon activity shows that emission takes place within a nanometer-sized active area and relies on electrically induced single-to-few active electroluminescent centers excited with moderate voltage (<3 V). Our findings further extend the emulating capability of a memristor to encompass neuronal optical activity and allow to construct memristive atomic-scale devices capable of handling simultaneously electrons and photons as information carriers.

RESUMO

The disruptions caused by ice crystal formation during the cryopreservation of cells and tissues can cause cell and tissue damage. Thus, preventing such damage during cryopreservation is an important but challenging goal. Here, a hibernating/awakening nanomotor with magnesium/palladium covering one side of a silica platform (Mg@Pd@SiO2) is proposed. This nanomotor is used in the cultivation of live NCM460 cells to demonstrate a new method to actively limit ice crystal formation and enable highly efficient cryopreservation. Cooling Mg@Pd@SiO2 in solution releases Mg2+/H2 and promotes the adsorption of H2 at multiple Pd binding sites on the cell surface to inhibit ice crystal formation and cell/tissue damage; additionally, the Pd adsorbs and stores H2 to form a hibernating nanomotor. During laser-mediated heating, the hibernating nanomotor is activated (awakened) and releases H2, which further suppresses recrystallization and decreases cell/tissue damage. These hibernating/awakening nanomotors have great potential for promoting highly efficient cryopreservation by inhibiting ice crystal formation.

RESUMO

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the role and mechanism of ferroptosis in SiO 2-induced cardiac injury using a mouse model. Methods: Male C57BL/6 mice were intratracheally instilled with SiO 2 to create a silicosis model. Ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1) and deferoxamine (DFO) were used to suppress ferroptosis. Serum biomarkers, oxidative stress markers, histopathology, iron content, and the expression of ferroptosis-related proteins were assessed. Results: SiO 2 altered serum cardiac injury biomarkers, oxidative stress, iron accumulation, and ferroptosis markers in myocardial tissue. Fer-1 and DFO reduced lipid peroxidation and iron overload, and alleviated SiO 2-induced mitochondrial damage and myocardial injury. SiO 2 inhibited Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and its downstream antioxidant genes, while Fer-1 more potently reactivated Nrf2 compared to DFO. Conclusion: Iron overload-induced ferroptosis contributes to SiO 2-induced cardiac injury. Targeting ferroptosis by reducing iron accumulation or inhibiting lipid peroxidation protects against SiO 2 cardiotoxicity, potentially via modulation of the Nrf2 pathway.

RESUMO

Porous silicon dioxide (SiO2)/poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVdF), SiO2/PVdF, and fibrous composite membranes were prepared by electrospinning a blend solution of a SiO2 sol-gel/PVdF. The nanofibers of the SiO2/PVdF (3/7 wt. ratio) blend comprised skin and nanofibrillar structures which were obtained from the SiO2 component. The thickness of the SiO2 skin layer comprising a thin skin layer could be readily tuned depending on the weight proportions of SiO2 and PVdF. The composite membrane exhibited a low thermal shrinkage of ~3% for 2 h at 200 °C. In the prototype cell comprising the composite membrane, the alternating current impedance increased rapidly at ~225 °C, and the open-circuit voltage steeply decreased at ~170 °C, almost becoming 0 V at ~180 °C. After being exposed at temperatures of >270 °C, its three-dimensional network structure was maintained without the closure of the pore structure by a melt-down of the membrane.

RESUMO

Silver-zinc-nickel spinel ferrite was prepared by the co-precipitation procedure with the precise composition Ag0.1Zn0.4Ni0.5Fe2O4 for bolstering pollutant removal effectiveness while upholding magnetic properties and then coated with a mesoporous silica layer. The surface characteristics and composition of Ag0.1Zn0.4Ni0.5Fe2O4@mSiO2 were confirmed using EDX, FT-IR, VSM, XRD, TEM, SEM, and BET methods. The surface modification of Ag-Zn-Ni ferrite with a silica layer improves the texture properties, where the specific surface area and average pore size of the spinel ferrite rose to 180 m2/g and 3.15 nm, respectively. The prepared spinel ferrite@mSiO2 has been utilized as an efficient adsorbent for eliminating methyl green (MG) and indigo carmine (IC) as models of cationic and anionic dyes from wastewater, respectively. Studying pH, Pzc, adsorbent dosage, dye concentration, and temperature showed that efficient removal of MG was carried out in alkaline media (pH = 12), while the acid medium (pH = 2) was effective for IC removal. Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetics were found to be good fits for the adsorption data. Both dyes were adsorbed in a spontaneous, endothermic process. A possible mechanism for dye removal has been proposed. The adsorbent was effectively recovered and reused.

RESUMO

This study employed multifractal analysis to investigate the changes in surface morphology of SiO2 anti-reflective coatings prepared on KDP substrates using the sol-gel method, under various conditions of ultraviolet (UV) irradiance. The coatings were successfully fabricated, and the chemical structure of the SiO2 sol was comprehensively characterized using Solid-State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (SSNMR) technology. Under low UV irradiance (4 J/cm2), repeated experiments revealed a crack-induced mechanism of surface fatigue damage. Utilizing Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), the study discovered the induction effect of initial crack defects in UV-damaged coatings and established a damage model. Furthermore, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) was used to acquire images of the coatings' surface morphology at different damage levels, which were analyzed using the multifractal spectrum f(α). This analysis confirmed the multifractal nature of the coatings both before and after damage. This study identified significant effects of UV irradiation on the width of the multifractal spectrum and Δf, indicating that the SiO2 anti-reflective coatings exhibit multifractal characteristics under various damage states. The coatings displayed a pattern of decreasing and then increasing singularity spectrum width, height distribution unevenness, and surface roughness with increasing damage. This study demonstrates that multifractal analysis is an effective tool for describing the complexity of the surface morphology of sol-gel-derived anti-reflective coatings for the first time and for validating their multifractal properties across different stages of UV damage. HIGHLIGHTS: Damage dynamic process of KDP crystal sol-gel coating was described by SEM&AFM; The crack propagation mechanism of sol-gel coating under UV radiation is proposed; The damage evolution of sol-gel coating was described by multifractal analysis.

RESUMO

In this study, to address the defects of sodium alginate (SA), such as its susceptibility to disintegration, silica was coated on the outer layer of sodium alginate hydrogel beads in order to improve its swelling and slow-release properties. Tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) was used as the hydrolyzed precursor, and the solution of silica precursor was prepared by sol-gel reaction under acidic conditions. Then SA-silica hydrogel beads prepared by ionic crosslinking method were immersed into the SiO2 precursor solution to prepare SA-silica hydrogel beads. The chemical structure and morphology of the hydrogel beads were characterized by XRD, FTIR, and SEM, and the results showed that the surface of SA-silica beads was successfully encapsulated with the outer layer of SiO2, and the surface was smooth and dense. The swelling experiments showed that the swelling performance effectively decreased with the increase of TEOS molar concentration, and the maximum swelling ratio of the hydrogel beads decreased from 41.07 to 14.3, and the time to reach the maximum swelling ratio was prolonged from 4 h to 8 h. The sustained-release experiments showed that the SA-silica hydrogel beads possessed a good pH sensitivity, and the time of sustained-release was significantly prolonged in vitro. Hemolysis and cytotoxicity experiments showed that the SA-silica hydrogel beads were biocompatible when the TEOS molar concentration was lower than 0.375 M. The SA-silica-2 hydrogel beads had good biocompatibility, swelling properties, and slow-release properties at the same time.
