RESUMO

Ultra-weak bioluminescence, also known as ultra-weak photon emission (UPE), is one of the functional characteristics of biological organisms, characterized by specialized, low-energy level luminescence. Researchers have extensively studied UPE for decades, and the mechanisms by which UPE is generated and its properties have been extensively investigated. However, there has been a gradual shift in research focus on UPE in recent years toward exploring its application value. To better understand the application and trend of UPE in biology and medicine, we have conducted a review of relevant articles in recent years. Among the several topics covered in this review is UPE research in biology and medicine (including traditional Chinese medicine), primarily focused on UPE as a promising non-invasive tool for diagnosis and oxidative metabolism monitoring as well as a potential tool for traditional Chinese medicine research.

RESUMO

Objectives: In the first of a series of three articles by the present authors, diagnostic agreement between Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners was found to be low. This was the first time that TCM diagnoses had been evaluated with an open population of patients and this result is a cause of concern. In the second article, incorrect statistics were shown to have often been used to calculate chance-removed inter-rater agreement, and appropriate statistics such as Gwet's Agreement Coefficient 2 (AC2) was recommended for future studies. In this, the third article, a novel approach to recording TCM diagnostic patterns, the Traditional Chinese Medical Diagnostic Descriptor (TCMDD), is presented that allows chance-removed agreement calculation. An example of mapping TCM diagnostic patterns to the TCMDD format is given and diagnostic agreement is evaluated. Design, Settings, Subjects: The same 35 subjects used to report agreement in our first article were also diagnosed by additional practitioners using the TCMDD format during the same experimental sessions at the University of Technology, Sydney Clinic. TCM diagnoses from the first article were also mapped to the TCMDD format. Outcome measures: Linearly weighted simple agreement and the AC2 statistic were utilized and all results compared. Results: Linearly weighted simple agreement using the TCMDD and TCM mapped to TCMDD format averaged 0.80 ± 0.02 compared with 0.19 for TCM. TCMDD and TCM mapped to TCMDD chance-removed agreement, as calculated with AC2, ranged between 0.67 and 0.73 ± 0.03. Conclusions: The TCMDD allows the essence of diagnoses expressed by TCM practitioners to be appropriately compared. This was confirmed by the TCM mapped to TCMDD results. In both cases, simple agreement was significantly greater than that obtained with the TCM format. Chance-removed statistics and error estimates can be reliably calculated with the AC2 and the TCMDD in open populations.

RESUMO

ObjectiveBy reviewing TCM research projects in Nanjing municipal hospitals from 2006 to 2010 (eleventh five-year plan), this study aimed to recognize the existing problems, put forward corresponding solutions, and help Nanjing municipal hospitals improve scientific research level. Methods Through field investigations and interviews with experts, this study set 139 research projects from 2006 to 2010 in 10 municipal hospitals in Nanjing as study samples. ResultsDuring 2006-2010, current situations in TCM research projects of Nanjing municipal hospitals were as follows:the number of TCM research projects was small, the research level was low, and the fund was little. TCM research resources were unevenly distributed;the overall quality of TCM human resources were not high;talent structure was unreasonable;great differences existed among different types of hospitals.ConclusionsDuring the eleventh five-year plan period, there were significant differences between TCM research projects and WM research projects in Nanjing municipal hospitals, such as the differences in number, level, fund and project channel. The study proposed that TCM research materials should be rationally allocated, related mechanisms should be perfected, the industrial structure should be optimized, and the pace of training and introducing TCM research human resources should be quickened, with a purpose of making contributions to TCM development in Nanjing.

RESUMO

The research and quality control of traditional Chinese medicine has meaningful importance, because it has influence not only in the health and treatment of patients, but also in the solid growth and development of phar-maceuticals companies. In some cases, for the complex of TCM, the common QC method on single or multi-target compounds can't really and truly disclose the quality of the Chinese materia medica. Therefore, a lot of researchers do plenty of works to make clear the effectiveness basis, to improve the quality and realize the modernization of TCM. All of these works close together with modern analysis and separation technology. In this article, a novel analy-sis technology-UltraPerformance Convergence Chromatography (UPC2) based its characters and applications should be introduced. It should be a helpful technology for the TCM researchers to facilitate the study and QC works.

RESUMO

Emotional illness spread in every clinical system disease, contained very complex sub-illness. At present, though there were plenty of clinical reports on emotional illness, few reports were substantive. Therefore, this paper put forward to establish a standard emotional diagnosis system by inheriting the traditional four diagnostic methods and absorbing the diagnostic techniques of modern psychosomatic medicine;according to the specific circumstances of emotional illness, the individual simultaneous treatment or separate treatment of mind and physique was used to establish a standardized system for treating emotional illness

RESUMO

QOL(quality of life) is not only one of the most important parts among the four clinical therapeutic evaluations, but also the main measurement tool to evaluate the clinical therapeutic efficiency of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus(T2DM).Based on the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, specific QOL assessment scale of TCM for T2DM should be made to evaluate the therapeutic efficiency. The assessment scale is a necessary to study T2DM of TCM.As far as TCM treating T2DM is concerned,it can also provide evidence of clinical therapeutic evaluation.

RESUMO

"Framework" and "framework theory" were proposed several decade years ago, and has been widely used in multidisciplinary research. The main purpose of this paper is to identify the concept and connotation of "framework theory" and to discuss the key role of it in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) research, so as to improve integrality and logicality of the theoretic system of TCM. TCM, as a independent science, ought to have the theory and practical framework which can reflect its characteristic and developmental rule. In this paper, we started from the research thought of "framework", introduced the definition, connection and difference between "framework" and "framework theory", analyzed the conditions and methods of establishing a framework, and discussed the applications of "framework" in TCM research.
