RESUMO

Metabolic dysfunction associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a common cause of liver disease in children and adolescents. The relationship between insulin resistance (IR) and MAFLD in children with short stature remains largely unknown. The present study was to investigate the relationship between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels in children with short stature. A total of 1754 children with short stature were enrolled. Anthropometric, biochemical and hormonal indexes were collected through physical measurement examinations and laboratory tests. A nonlinear association was found between the TyG index and ALT. The inflection point of the curve was at a TyG index of 8.24. In multivariate piecewise linear regression, only when the TyG index was greater than 8.24 was there a significant positive association between the TyG index and ALT (ß 5.75, 95% CI 3.30, 8.19; P < 0.001). However, when the TyG index was less than 8.24, there was no significant association between the TyG index and ALT (ß -0.57, 95% CI -1.84, 0.71; P = 0.382). This study demonstrated a nonlinear relationship between TyG index and ALT in children with short stature. This finding suggests that a high TyG index is associated with elevated ALT in children with short stature.

BACKGROUND: It remains unclear whether the association between dyslipidemia status and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index with myocardial damage varies in the context of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study aimed to determine the differential effects of dyslipidemia status and TyG index on left ventricular (LV) global function and myocardial microcirculation in patients with T2DM using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. METHODS: A total of 226 T2DM patients and 72 controls who underwent CMR examination were included. The T2DM group was further categorized into subgroups based on the presence or absence of dyslipidemia (referred to as T2DM (DysL+) and T2DM (DysL-)) or whether the TyG index exceeded 9.06. CMR-derived LV perfusion parameters, remodeling index, and global function index (GFI) were assessed and compared among groups. A multivariable linear regression model was employed to evaluate the effects of various variables on LV myocardial microcirculation, remodeling index, and GFI. RESULTS: The LV GFI sequentially decreased in controls, T2DM (DysL-), and T2DM (DysL+) groups (p < 0.001), and was lower (p = 0.003) in T2DM with higher TyG index group than in lower TyG index group. The LV remodeling index was higher in higher TyG index group than in lower TyG index group (p = 0.002), but there was no significant difference in whether the subgroup was accompanied by dyslipidemia. Multivariable analysis revealed that the TyG index, but not dyslipidemia status, was independently associated with LV remodeling index (ß coefficient[95% confidence interval], 0.152[0.025, 0.268], p = 0.007) and LV GFI (- 0.159[- 0.281, - 0.032], p = 0.014). For LV myocardial microcirculation, perfusion index, upslope, and max signal intensity sequentially decreased in controls, T2DM (DysL-), and T2DM (DysL+) groups (all p < 0.001). Dyslipidemia status independently correlated with perfusion index (- 0.147[- 0.272, - 0.024], p = 0.02) and upslope (- 0.200[- 0.320, 0.083], p = 0.001), while TyG index was independently correlated with time to maximum signal intensity (0.141[0.019, 0.257], p = 0.023). CONCLUSIONS: Both dyslipidemia status and higher TyG index were associated with further deterioration of LV global function and myocardial microvascular function in the context of T2DM. The effects of dyslipidemia and a higher TyG index appear to be differential, which indicates that not only the amount of blood lipids and glucose but also the quality of blood lipids are therapeutic targets for preventing further myocardial damage.

Insulin resistance (IR) is the major mechanism in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Early identification of IR is of great significance for preventing the onset of T2DM and delaying the progression of the disease. Previous studies have shown that triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index can be used as an effective surrogate marker for IR. There is a significant correlation between TyG index and T2DM and its common complications. In addition, the predictive efficacy of TyG index is better than that of other IR surrogate indicators. TyG index may not only become an important marker to identify people at high risk of T2DM and its complications, but is also expected to become a strong predictor of the prognosis of these diseases. However, there are still some challenges in the widespread application of TyG index in clinical practice. In the future, more high-quality studies are needed to clarify the assessment methods of TyG index for the prognosis of T2DM and its complications. Further investigations of the relationship between TyG index and T2DM and its complications will be expected to provide new ideas and methods for the prevention and treatment of T2DM and its complications.

Background: Recent studies have shown that the triglyceride glucose index (TyG) and cystatin C (CysC) are closely related to cardiovascular disease, but there is limited research on the prognosis of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The aim of this study was to explore the predictive value of the combination of the TyG index and CysC in predicting major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in ACS patients who underwent PCI. Methods: This retrospective study included 319 ACS patients who underwent PCI. The clinical endpoint was the occurrence of MACEs, including all-cause mortality, heart failure, non-fatal myocardial infarction, target vessel revascularization, and angina requiring hospitalization. Patients were classified into MACEs (65 cases) and non-MACEs (254 cases) groups. Univariate factor and multivariate analysis were used to identify predictors of MACEs. The receiver operating curve (ROC) of the prediction model of MACEs was determined. Additionally, the net reclassification improvement and integrated discrimination improvement indexes were calculated to further assess the additional predictive value of the risk factors for MACEs. Subgroup and interaction analysis between the TyG index combined with CysC and MACEs were conducted in various subgroups. Patients were stratified according to the optimal cutoff point value of the TyG index and the CysC determined by ROC curve analysis. The Kaplan-Meier analysis method was used to construct a survival curve 1 year after PCI. Results: During a median follow-up period of 14 months, 65 (20.38%) patients had experienced at least one primary endpoint event. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that the TyG index and CysC were independently associated with an increased risk of MACEs after PCI (OR, 2.513, 95% CI 1.451-4.351, P= 0.001; and OR, 4.741, 95% CI 1.344-16.731, P=0.016, respectively). The addition of the TyG index and CysC to the baseline risk model had the strongest incremental effect for predicting MACEs in terms of the C-statistic from 0.789 (95% CI 0.723-0.855, P<0.001) to 0.799 (95% CI 0.733-0.865, P<0.001). Furthermore, Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated that a TyG index greater than 9.325 and a CysC value greater than 1.065 mg/ml were significantly associated with an increased risk of MACEs (log-rank, all P < 0.01). Conclusion: The TyG index predicts MACEs after PCI in patients with ASC independent of known cardiovascular risk factors. Adjustment of the CysC by the TyG index further improves the predictive ability for MACEs in patients with ACS undergoing PCI. Thus, both of them are expected to become new prognostic indicators for MACEs in patients with ACS after PCI.

BACKGROUND: Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a dependable indicator of insulin resistance, has been identified as a valid marker regarding multiple cardiovascular diseases. Nevertheless, the correlation of TyG index with acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock (AMICS) remains uncertain. Our study aims for elucidating this relationship by comprehensively analyzing two large-scale cohorts. METHODS: Utilizing records from the eICU Collaborative Research Database and the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV, the link between TyG and the incidence and prognosis of AMICS was assessed multicentrally and retrospectively by logistic and correlation models, as well as restricted cubic spline (RCS). Propensity score matching (PSM), inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW), and overlap weighting (OW) were employed to balance the potential confounders. Subgroup analyses were performed according to potential modifiers. RESULTS: Overall, 5208 AMI patients, consisting of 375 developing CS were finally included. The TyG index exhibited an apparently higher level in AMI populations developing CS than in those who did not experienced CS [9.2 (8.8-9.7) vs. 9.0 (8.5-9.5)], with a moderate discrimination ability to recognize AMICS from the general AMI (AUC: 0.604). Logistic analyses showed that the TyG index was significantly correlated with in-hospital and ICU mortality. RCS analysis demonstrated a linear link between elevated TyG and increased risks regarding in-hospital and ICU mortality in the AMICS population. An increased mortality risk remains evident in PSM-, OW- and IPTW-adjusted populations with higher TyG index who have undergone CS. Correlation analyses demonstrated an apparent link between TyG index and APS score. Subgroup analyses presented a stable link between elevated TyG and mortality particularly in older age, females, those who are overweight or hypertensive, as well as those without diabetes. CONCLUSIONS: Elevated TyG index was related to the incidence of CS following AMI and higher mortality risks in the population with AMICS. Our findings pointed a previously undisclosed role of TyG index in regard to AMICS that still requires further validation.

Aim: Although the interplay of insulin resistance (IR) and low muscle mass is increasingly recognized, it remains unknown whether the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, as an indicator of IR, is associated with low muscle mass in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Our study aimed to investigate the association between TyG index and low muscle mass in hospitalized T2D patients. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 2687 hospitalized participants with T2D. The TyG index was calculated by fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and triglyceride levels. The outcome variables were defined as appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI) and low muscle mass. To explore the relationship between TyG index and low muscle mass, we conducted the multivariate linear regression, multivariate logistic regression, and subgroup analysis. Results: In the fully adjusted multivariate linear regression, there was a negative correlation between TyG index (ß=-0.10, 95% CI: -0.14, -0.06) and ASMI. TyG index (OR = 1.34, 95% CI: 1.08, 1.65) had a more significant association with low muscle mass compared to FPG (OR = 1.05, 95% CI: 1.01, 1.09) and glycated hemoglobin A1c (OR = 1.07, 95% CI: 0.99, 1.15). The statistical significance of the trend persisted among the TyG index quartile groups. Subgroup analysis revealed stronger positive associations between TyG index and low muscle mass in females, individuals aged 60 years or older, those with a body mass index of 28kg/m2 or higher, and HbA1c levels of 6.5% or higher, as well as those with hypertension and dyslipidemia. Conclusion: A higher TyG index level is positively associated with a higher risk of low muscle mass, suggesting that TyG index could be a potential biomarker of low muscle mass in hospitalized T2D patients.

Introduction: The objective of the present study is to assess the impact of the triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) on the prognosis and explore the correlation between the TyG index and all-cause mortality in femoral neck fracture patients. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we analyzed the TyG index in the follow-up of femoral neck fracture patients who underwent partial hip prosthesis. The formula of ln [fasting triglycerides (mg/dL) x fasting blood glucose concentration (mg/dL)/2] was used in the calculation of the TyG index. The patients were separated into three categories based on the TyG index. Results: It was found that there was a significant correlation between prolonged hospital stay and elevated admission and postoperative TyG index (P = 0.011, P < 0.001, respectively). The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis curves revealed a higher risk of 30-day, 90-day and overall mortality in patients with higher postoperative TyG index levels, categorized by postoperative TyG tertiles (log-rank P < 0.001, P < 0.001 and P = 0.001, respectively). In the multivariate Cox proportional hazard models, higher postoperative TyG index was a significant risk factor for mortality (P = 0.01). The receiver operating characteristic analysis indicated that a postoperative TyG index of 9.01 and above was critical for 30-day mortality (69% sensitivity, 82% specificity and 0.78 area under curve; P < 0.001). Conclusions: In our study demonstrate that the TyG index may be useful in identifying individuals at high risk of mortality in patients with femoral neck fractures.

Introduction: Approximately 25 % of diabetic patients develop diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), significantly increasing morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Effective control and prevention are crucial. Objective: This study aims to identify easily measurable parameters for predicting DFU risk by assessing the correlation between Phase Angle (PA) and the Triglyceride-Glucose (TyG) index with DFU risk. Materials and methods: A comparative case-control study was conducted at the General Hospital of Elche from March to June 2023 with 70 participants (33 with diabetes, 37 without). Cases had diabetes for over five years and a diabetic foot risk grade of 0, 1, or 2 (IWGDF 2019). Exclusion criteria included inability to walk, prior use of orthoses, and severe complications like edema or wounds. Predictive variables were PA, TyG index, body composition, and biochemical markers. Statistical analyses included Pearson/Spearman tests for correlations, Student's t-test/Mann-Whitney test for group comparisons, and ANOVA/Kruskal-Wallis tests for normally and non-normally distributed variables. Results: PAand TyG index were strongly linked to diabetic foot risk, supporting their potential as biomarkers. Significant relationships with other relevant biomarkers were also confirmed. Conclusion: PA and TyG index are valuable, easily measurable biomarkers for assessing diabetic foot risk, and can be monitored in primary care settings. Implementing these biomarkers in routine practice could enhance the management of diabetic complications, particularly in resource-limited settings, by enabling early detection and intervention, thus improving patient outcomes and reducing the burden of advanced complications.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the predictive value of the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and neutrophil-to-high-density lipoprotein ratio (NHR) for in-hospital major adverse cardiac events (MACE) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), and to establish an associated nomogram model. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we collected data from consecutive STEMI patients who underwent PCI from October 2019 to June 2023 at the Second People's Hospital of Hefei and the Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, as training and validation sets. Stepwise regression and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed to screen independent risk factors, and a nomogram model was constructed and evaluated for its predictive efficacy. RESULTS: The TyG index, NHR, urea, diastolic blood pressure, hypertension, and left ventricular ejection fraction were independent risk factors for in-hospital MACE after PCI, and were used to construct the nomogram model. The C-index of the training and validation sets were 0.799 and 0.753, respectively, suggesting that the model discriminated well. Calibration and clinical decision curves also demonstrated that the nomogram model had good predictive power. CONCLUSION: In STEMI patients, increased TyG index and NHR were closely related to the occurrence of in-hospital MACE after PCI. Our constructed nomogram model has some value for predicting the occurrence of in-hospital MACE in STEMI patients.

BACKGROUND: The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is recognized as a robust indicator for evaluating insulin resistance (IR). Despite the well-documented anti-aging biological functions of Klotho protein, its correlation with the TyG index remains unexplored. METHODS: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted involving participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) 2007-2016. The TyG index was computed using laboratory data, while serum Klotho concentrations was determined using ELISA kit. After adjusting potential confounding variables, multivariate regression models were employed to evaluate the association between the TyG index and Klotho protein levels among middle-aged and elderly females and males separately. Additionally, smooth curve fitting and segmented regression model were applied to investigate potential threshold effects and identify the inflection point. RESULTS: A total of 6,573 adults qualified for inclusion, comprising 3,147 (47.88%) males and 3,426 (52.12%) females. Multivariate regression analysis revealed that females with a higher TyG index exhibited significantly lower serum Klotho concentrations (ß=-83.41, 95% CI: -124.23 to -42.60, P < 0.0001). This association was not statistically significant in males (ß = 15.40, 95% CI: -19.16 to 49.95, P = 0.3827). Subgroup analyses revealed a significant interaction effect by diabetes status in females (P-interaction = 0.0121), where non-diabetic females showed a stronger negative association between TyG index and serum Klotho levels compared to diabetic females. In the female group, when TyG index was divided into quartiles, individuals in the highest quartile of TyG index exhibited reduced levels of Klotho protein (Q4: -88.77 pg/ml) compared to those in the lowest quartile (Q1) after full adjustment (P = 0.0041). Segmented regression analysis indicated a turning point value of 9.4 in females. Notably, a 1-unit increase in TyG index was significantly associated with a decrease in Klotho levels by -111.43 pg/ml (95% CI: -157.34 to -65.52, P < 0.0001) when TyG index was below 9.4, while above this threshold, the association was not significant (Log likelihood ratio test: 0.009). CONCLUSIONS: The findings highlight a non-linear correlation between the TyG index and serum Klotho concentrations among females, indicative of a saturation effect. This relationship was particularly pronounced in non-diabetic women. In contrast, no statistically significant association was observed in male participants.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that inflammatory and antioxidant dietary patterns can modify the risk of COPD, yet few studies have examined the association of these diets with its early signs (PRISm), and the potential role of metabolic disorders remains to be elucidated. METHODS: Data from 9529 individuals who participated in the 2007-2012 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were analyzed. The Dietary Inflammation Index (DII) and the Dietary Antioxidant Composite Index (CDAI) were assessed using 24-h dietary recall, multiple metabolic indicators were calculated according to biochemical markers, and lung function parameters defined PRISm cases. Individual and joint effects of DII and CDAI were evaluated by generalized linear models and binary logistic regression models, and mediation effects of metabolic indicators were further explored by causal mediation analysis. RESULTS: Increased DII was associated with decreased lung function (FEV1: ß = -18.82, FVC: ß = -29.2; OR = 1.04) and increased metabolic indicators (ß = 0.316, 0.036, 0.916, 0.033, and 0.145 on MAP, UA, TC, TyG, and MS, respectively). Contrary to this, CDAI were positively and negatively associated with lung function (FEV1: ß = 3.42; FVC: ß = 4.91; PRISm: OR = 0.99) and metabolic indicators (ß < 0), respectively. Joint effects of DII and CDAI indicated the minimal hazard effects of DII on TyG (ß = -0.11), FEV1 (ß = 72.62), FVC (ß = 122.27), and PRISm (OR = 0.79) in subjects with high CDAI when compared with those with low CDAI (low DII + high CDAI vs. high DII + low CDAI). Furthermore, TyG mediated 13.74 %, 8.29 %, and 21.70 % of DII- and 37.30 %, 20.90 %, and 12.32 % of CDAI-FEV1, -FVC, and -PRISm associations, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicated that CDAI can attenuate the adverse effects of DII on metabolic disorders and lung function decline, which provides new insight for diet modification in preventing early lung dysfunction.

The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a simple and reliable indicator of insulin resistance, which is an important contributor to the development of hypertension. The aim of this meta-analysis was to determine the dose-response association between the TyG index and the incidence of hypertension. An extensive search was conducted through several databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, ScienceDirect, and Scopus, until June 1, 2024. The TyG index was used as the exposure, and the incidence of hypertension was measured throughout the TyG index intervals. The effect estimates were presented as odds ratios (OR) in both the unadjusted and adjusted models. Adjusted OR were carried out from all included studies to eliminate the possibility of confounding factors being involved in the incidence of hypertension. A total of 108.936 participants (mean age: 48.2 years old, male: 47%, mean body mass index: 23.9 kg/m2) from 14 observational studies were included. The TyG index in the most eminent category was related to a higher risk of hypertension in both unadjusted (OR: 2.59, 95%CI: 2.03-3.31, p<0.001; I2: 97.1%, p<0.001) and adjusted model (OR: 1.74, 95%CI: 1.39-2.19, p<0.001; I2: 92.2%, p<0.001). The dose-response meta-analysis for the adjusted OR showed that the linear association analysis was not significant per 0.1 increase in the TyG index. The dose-response curve became increasingly steeper at the TyG index above 8.5. In conclusion, the TyG index was shown to be strongly linked with hypertension in a non-linear dose-response manner.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality in adults with metabolic syndrome (MeS) and explore the mediating role of oxidative stress. Methods: This study included 6131 adults with MeS from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The relationships between TyG index and mortality were elucidated using multivariate Cox proportional hazards models, restricted cubic splines (RCS) Fine-Gray competing risk model. In addition, mediation analysis was used to test the indirect effect of oxidative stress indicators. Results: Over a median 106-month follow-up, a total of 357 CVD and 1292 all-cause deaths were recorded. After multivariate adjustment, there was a J-type relationship between TyG index and CVD and all-cause mortality, with optimal inflection point of 9.13 and 8.92. After the threshold point, TyG index was positively associated with CVD (HR: 4.21, 95%CI: 1.82, 9.78) and all-cause mortality(HR: 2.93, 95%CI: 2.05, 4.18). Even using non-cardiovascular mortality as a competitive risk, the Fine-Gray model also illustrated that the cumulative CVD mortality incidence was higher in MeS with TyG index >9.13 (Fine-Gray P< 0.01). Mediation analysis revealed that biomarkers of oxidative stress, including gamma-glutamyl transferase and uric acid, collectively mediated 10.53% of the association between the TyG index and CVD mortality, and 8.44% of the association with all-cause mortality (P < 0.05). Conclusion: In the cohort study, TyG index was found to have a J-shaped association with CVD mortality and all-cause mortality in MeS population and oxidative stress may play a key mediating role in this relationship.

Background: The TyG index, or triglyceride-glucose index, is primarily used as a marker to assess insulin resistance and metabolic health. It increases mortality risk in patients with NAFLD, atherosclerosis, ischemic stroke, or heart failure. However, its association with Carotid Atherosclerosis (CAS) risk in NAFLD patients remains uncertain. Methods: This retrospective cohort study enrolled 739 individuals who participated comprehensive health evaluations at a large public hospital in Yangzhou, China, between January 2021 and December 2023. Among them, 436 were men and 303 were women, and their mean (SD) age was 51.53 ± 11.46 years. The individuals were categorized into three tertiles (Q1, Q2, and Q3), according to the baseline TyG index. Our investigation focused on exploring the correlativity between the TyG and the occurrence of CAS utilizing Cox regression and RCS analyses. Results: During a 3-year follow-up period, 199 patients developed CAS (cumulative incidence rate: 26.93%). A statistical model, adjusted for age, gender, BMI, and other confounders indicated that the HR (95%CI) values for CAS risk in the Q2 and Q3 groups were 3.11(1.87-5.17) and 4.51(2.69-7.56), respectively, with P-values <0.001 for both groups. A sensitivity analysis confirmed these results. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed that CAS risk varied across the groups (P non-linear < 0.05). Conclusion: In individuals diagnosed as NAFLD, the possibility for CAS escalates with the elevation of the TyG value. Therefore, the TyG index is an effective marker for assessing the risk of CAS within this demographic. Large-sample prospective studies are needed to confirm this conclusion in the future.

Background: Insulin resistance (IR) can predict the prognosis of patients suffering from cerebrovascular disorders. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and triglyceride-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio have been confirmed to be easy and reliable indicators of IR. However, the relationships between the TyG index or TG/HDL-C ratio and early neurological deterioration (END) after thrombolysis in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) are uncertain. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 1,187 patients diagnosed with AIS who underwent intravenous thrombolysis between January 2018 and February 2024 was performed. Post-thrombolysis END was defined as an increase in the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score of ≥4 within 24 h after thrombolysis. Logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the relationships of the TyG index and TG/HDL-C ratio with post-thrombolysis END. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to assess the ability of the TyG index and TG/HDL-C ratio to discriminate post-thrombolysis END. Results: Among the 1,187 recruited patients, 179 (15.08%) were diagnosed with post-thrombolysis END, and 1,008 (84.92%) were diagnosed with non-END. A binary logistic regression model indicated that the TyG index (odds ratio [OR], 2.015; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.964-2.414, p = 0.015) and TG/HDL-C ratio (OR, 1.542; 95% CI, 1.160-2.049, p = 0.004) were independent factors for post-thrombolysis END. The area under the curve (AUC) values for the TyG index, TG/HDL-C ratio, and TyG index combined with the TG/HDL-C ratio for post-thrombolysis END were 0.704, 0.674, and 0.755, respectively. Conclusion: This study indicates that the TyG index and TG/HDL-C ratio can be used as prognostic factors to predict post-thrombolysis END.

BACKGROUND: The link between insulin resistance and endometriosis is not well established. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index serves as a straightforward and economical indicator of insulin resistance. This study examines the link between the TyG index and the prevalence of endometriosis in a U.S. METHODS: This cross-sectional study analyzed data from the NHANES conducted between 1999 and 2006. Reproductive health was assessed through questionnaires, and the TyG index was derived from fasting triglyceride and glucose measurements. Weighted logistic regression models were used to analyze the relationship between the TyG index and endometriosis. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) curves explored the linear relationship, while stratified and sensitivity analyses assessed potential interactions and the robustness of the findings. RESULTS: The study included 2,346 women, with 176 diagnosed with endometriosis and 2,170 without. Women with endometriosis exhibited an elevated TyG index compared to those without the condition. The weighted logistic regression analysis revealed that the TyG index is an independent risk factor for endometriosis (OR = 1.58, 95% CI 1.17-2.14, p = 0.004). RCS analysis indicated a significant positive linear association between the TyG index and endometriosis, with a turning point at 8.51. Subgroup analysis indicated a stronger association in certain populations. The post-propensity score matching analysis confirmed the robustness of these findings. CONCLUSION: In the U.S. population, a higher TyG index is positively and linearly associated with endometriosis prevalence. Effective management of blood glucose and lipid levels may reduce the prevalence of endometriosis.

BACKGROUND: Although triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a reliable indicator of insulin resistance and cardiometabolic disease, its effectiveness in predicting mortality risk has not been adequately validated. We aimed to investigate the association between the TyG-related indices and all-cause and cause-specific mortality in the general population. METHODS: A total of 27,642 individuals were included from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 1999 and 2018. Three indicators were constructed, including the TyG index, TyG combined with waist-to-height ratio (TyG-WHtR), and TyG combined with waist circumference (TyG-WC). Mortality data was acquired through the linkage of NHANES data with National Death Index records. Weighted Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate the independent association between the TyG-related indices and mortality. Nonlinear associations were explored using restricted cubic splines. RESULTS: Multivariable adjusted models showed a progressive increase in all-cause and cause-specific mortality across quartiles of the TyG-related indices. Compared with the lowest quartile of the TyG index, the highest quartile had adjusted hazard ratios of 1.26 (95% CI 1.04-1.52) for all-cause mortality, 1.38 (1.04-1.74) for cardiovascular mortality, and 1.23 (1.01-1.50) for non-cardiovascular mortality, respectively. For the TyG-WHtR index, the corresponding hazard ratios were 1.60 (1.25-2.05), 1.86 (1.26-2.50), and 1.48 (1.10-1.99), respectively. For the TyG-WC index, the corresponding hazard ratios were 1.42 (1.11-1.75), 1.48 (1.04-1.96), and 1.38 (1.05-1.72), respectively. The associations between the three TyG-related indices and all-cause, cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular mortality were J-shaped. Interaction tests revealed significant effect modification by age, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) level, and statin use (all P values < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The TyG-related indices were independent predictors of all-cause and cause-specific mortality in the general population. Young individuals should be particularly vigilant, whereas low LDL-C levels and statin use are potentially protective.

BACKGROUND: The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is linked to both the development and progression of diabetes, while obesity remains a significant risk factor for this disease. However, the relationship between the TyG index and overweight or obese diabetes remains unclear. METHODS: This study was a cross-sectional analysis of data from 40,633 participants with body mass index (BMI) ≥ 24 kg/m2 who were screened from January 2018 to December 2023 at Henan Provincial People's Hospital. Participants were divided into groups of overweight or obese individuals with diabetes and those without diabetes according to the diabetes diagnostic criteria. The TyG index, the dependent variable, was determined using the equation ln [fasting triglycerides (mg/dL) × fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. We explored the association between TyG index and diabetes in overweight or obese individuals through multivariate logistic regression, subgroup analysis, generalized additive models, smoothed curve fitting, and analysis of threshold effects. RESULTS: Patients who were overweight or obese and had diabetes had higher TyG index levels than those without diabetes. After adjusting for confounders, our findings indicated a significant association between the TyG index and the risk of diabetes in overweight or obese individuals [odds ratio (OR) = 7.38, 95% confidence interval (CI): 6.98-7.81]. There was a J-shaped nonlinear association between TyG index and diabetes. When TyG index was > 4.46, the risk of diabetes increased sharply. Notably, a high baseline TyG index (Q4 group) correlated with a notably greater risk of diabetes than did the Q1 group, with an OR of 22.72 (95% CI: 20.52-25.16). Subgroup analysis revealed that the association between TyG and diabetes was stronger in females than in males (OR = 7.57, 95% CI: 6.76-8.48,), more significant in individuals with a BMI of 24-28 kg/m2 than in those with a BMI ≥ 28 kg/m2 (OR = 8.40, 95% CI: 7.83-9.02), and increased with age (OR = 8.15, 95% CI: 7.25-9.17) (all P for interaction < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Among overweight or obese individuals, a higher TyG index is associated with an elevated risk of diabetes, especially when TyG is > 4.46. Furthermore, factors such as sex, age, and BMI significantly influence the risk of diabetes in overweight or obese individuals. Specifically, older women with a BMI of 24-28 kg/m2 are at a greater risk of diabetes under similar TyG index conditions.

Investigate the predictive value of TyG and lipid ratios on the development of complications and HUA in patients with T2DM. A retrospective cross-sectional study involving 9488 T2DM patients was conducted. They were divided into HUA and NUA group base on SUA level and divided into with and without complications groups according to the diagnosis of the endocrinologist. Necessary information and biochemical parameters were recorded during outpatient visit. TyG index and lipid ratios were calculated, and statistical analysis was carried out to correlate the calculated values and HUA using SPSS version 26.0 for Windows. TyG and lipid ratios were significantly higher in T2DM with HUA or with complications than those with NUA or without complications (p < 0.05). Regression analysis adjusting for confounding factors found TyG (adjusted OR = 1.54; 95% CI: 1.31-1.82; p < 0.05), TG/HDL-C (adjusted OR = 1.21; 95% CI: 1.04-1.40; p < 0.05) and TC/HDL (adjusted OR = 1.36; 95% CI: 1.17-1.57; p < 0.05) was risk factor of HUA in T2DM patients. TyG (adjusted OR = 1.21; 95% CI: 1.02-1.44; p < 0.05), TG/HDL (adjusted OR = 1.19; 95% CI: 1.03-1.38; p < 0.05) and Apo A/Apo B (adjusted OR = 1.41; 95% CI: 1.26-1.58; p < 0.05) was risk factor of complications in T2DM patients. TyG, TG/HDL-C, and TC/HDL can be used as early sensitive target in the occurrence of HUA in T2DM patients and TyG was the most influential risk factor. TyG, TG/HDL-C, and Apo A/Apo B can be used as early sensitive target in the occurrence of complications in T2DM patients and Apo A/Apo B was the most influential risk factor.
