RESUMO

In psychiatry, psychomotricians can play an essential role in multidisciplinary teams. The specificity of their clinical vision and analysis, as well as their care tools, make them specialists in understanding the symptoms expressed by the body, and in body-mediated therapy. Able to propose interventions for patients in crisis, and to plan long-term care for stabilized chronic patients, they adapt to the temporality of the pathology. Committed to teamwork, they play their part in the multi-disciplinary weave of containing and structuring that the psychiatric institution confers on the most fragile patients.

RESUMO

Adolescents and young adults admitted to the Espace unit at Nantes University Hospital are offered beauty treatments. Although their situations are diverse, they consistently show a decline in self-esteem. These young patients benefit from individual hand and facial treatments, make-up sessions and group workshops.

RESUMO

Job stress is a critical factor of concern in police work across the world. While frustrations, exhaustion and emotional burnout in work places, particularly as they relate to police job, have been academically emphasized in more advanced climes, they are marginally addressed in less developed societies like Nigeria. Thus, this paper examines the psychological and physical impacts of job stress, workload, and burnout among police officers in Nigeria. Using a nation-wide cross-sectional survey involving 528 police personnel, this paper notes that the police in Nigeria work longer hours than normal, including working under tensions with poor logistics that expose them to dangers on regular basis. This increases their level of frustrations, exhaustion and emotional burnout in work places besides greatly impacting their service delivery. To ensure effective performance of the police in an atmosphere of increasing complex crime networks, therefore, the study recommends clear strategies for improving police wellbeing.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Recto-colic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a frequent and serious complication of hematopoietic stem cell allogeneic transplantation, which is sometimes difficult to diagnose. The aim of our study was to identify histological diagnostic and prognostic criteria for recto-colic GVH. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Patients allografted at Amiens university hospital from 2012 to 2017 were retrieved. Those who had a recto-colic biopsy were included and divided into two groups (final diagnosis of GVH and non-GVH), then biopsies were reviewed by 2 pathologists. RESULTS: One hundred and nineteen patients were included. Sixty-seven were allocated to the GVH group and 52 to the non-GVH group. In the GVH group, we observed a significantly greater number of apoptotic bodies (AB) on standard HES staining and with the anti-Caspase 3 immunohistochemistry, cryptolytic AB abscesses, atrophy, regenerative glands and glands lined with eosinophilic cells (P<0.001). Anti-Caspase 3 immunohistochemistry revealed more AB than standard HES staining (P<0.005). But to differentiate GVH cases from non-GVH cases, we obtained a threshold value of 3.5 AB per 10 contiguous crypts on standard HE staining and with the anti-Caspase 3 immunohistochemistry. From 4 AB per 10 contiguous crypts, on HES staining and anti-Caspase 3 immunostaining, the diagnosis of GVH became consistent. No non-GVH case had more than 6 AB per 10 contiguous crypts. GVH patients with more than 8 AB per 10 contiguous crypts had a worse prognosis (P<0.001). CONCLUSION: We confirm the value of AB and their counting in the diagnosis of GVH, with a diagnostic threshold of 4 AB and a prognostic threshold of 8 AB. Glands lined with eosinophilic cells could be an additional diagnostic criterion in favor of GVH to be confirmed by further studies.

RESUMO

This article looks at the historical construction of knowledge about the elderly body from a medical perspective that is concerned with the materiality of the body and associated losses. It recalls, presents and analyses the paradigm of loss, decline and failure that dominates the way care is provided, and examines the issues associated with this domination. By presenting old age as a social construct produced by language and subject to values relating to a certain performance of the body, the author invites us to shift our perspective and take a finer, more complex and broader view of the body and the experience of being old.

RESUMO

One might think that the representation of the ageing body in film has evolved over the years, reflecting certain cultural and societal changes, as well as advances in the understanding of ageing. However, regardless of gender, older people are more likely than any other group to appear in film as comic antidotes to ageing, cultivating stereotypes of physical, cognitive and even sexual inefficiency.

RESUMO

Health care provider retention is important for mitigating workforce shortages in underserved areas. The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) provides loan repayment for a two or three-year service commitment from clinicians to work in underserved areas. Prior studies have mixed findings as to what influences clinician retention and have focused mainly on individual-level background characteristics. We used measures of NHSC clinicians' work environment during their service experience, in addition to background characteristics, to identify patterns of experiences, and assess whether these patterns were associated with post-service intentions. We observed that technical assistance and job resources were more influential on clinicians' intentions, compared to individual- or community-level characteristics. Organizations with efficient and supportive work environments may help retain clinicians in underserved areas.

RESUMO

The papers from George Blair's war service as a prisoner of the Japanese in the Second World War are unusually complete. It is a valuable record because it is representative of those young doctors who provided most of the medical care in the camps, and also because the Taiwan camps are not well documented in the literature.

RESUMO

The institutionalization of the nursing discipline within French universities can take a number of different paths, but must not ignore a fundamentally diverse practical reality. Heterogeneity is also evident in the abundance of theories available and mobilized to address objects of nursing interest. This text emphasizes this mobilization and presents a rhizomic nursing discipline that departs from a classical, vertical and hierarchical academic discipline. It draws on multiple theoretical contributions to address the encounter with cared-for bodies, and on critical perspectives to question the future of advanced practice nurses as a caring corps.

RESUMO

Geospatial online participatory tools, or geo-OPTs, are increasingly used worldwide for engaging the public in planning. Yet, despite growth in the adoption and use of geo-OPTs, and the growing scholarship to accompany it, our understanding of their ability to support public participation in environmental planning is still underdeveloped. In this paper, we investigate the application of a geo-OPT by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), a leading water management agency in the United States, in three contextually and geographically diverse cases. Through a combination of document analysis, interviews, and participant observation, we examine the processes and dynamics associated with the development and use of the geo-OPT Crowdsource Reporter. Our findings highlight the importance of managing geo-OPTs not in isolation or as a panacea but rather as part of a broader planning process that recognizes the complexity and significance of communication in geo-OPT processes. Although it may be tempting and seemingly simple to create and launch these online tools, our research reveals how a lack of intention early on may lead to underuse or misapplication of the tool. More significantly, real damage can be done, like increased public frustration and alienation, resulting in breakdown in communications or even worsening public relations for federal agencies.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Open globe injuries are a major cause of visual impairment in children, related to the severity of the trauma or secondary to induced amblyopia. Intraocular foreign bodies (IOFB) have been reported in approximately one third of cases of open globe injuries. As clinical presentation and management may differ between adults and children, data is lacking about IOFBs in children under 18years of age. The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical characteristics and visual prognosis of ocular trauma associated with intraocular foreign bodies in children. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This single-center retrospective study included patients under 18years of age treated for ocular trauma with IOFB. Demographic characteristics, complete initial and final ophthalmological examination, imaging data and details of medical and surgical management were collected. RESULTS: Fourteen patients were included (78.6% boys), with a mean age of 10.3years (min 7months-max 17years). In 92.9% of cases, patients were found to have a single IOFB, mostly metallic (71.4%). Posterior segment IOFBs were found in 50% of cases, anterior segment IOFBs in 28.6% and orbital IOFBs in 21.4%. The clinical examination permitted detection of the IOFBs in 50% of cases, while they were visible on CT scan in all cases. The mean initial visual acuity was 20/320, and the mean final visual acuity was 20/125. Endophthalmitis occurred in 2 cases (14%). DISCUSSION: Open globe injuries associated with IOFB are severe and sight-threatening. Localization of the IOFB in the posterior segment has a worse prognosis. CT scan is mandatory, especially in children, as the trauma history is often missing. Retinal detachment and endophthalmitis appear to be the main prognostic factors requiring urgent specialized pediatric ophthalmology management.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Removal of orbital foreign bodies is a surgical challenge. The purpose of this study is to report our experience in the removal of orbital foreign bodies and to evaluate the usefulness of various technological aids in their removal. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a single-center retrospective study at Nice University Hospital (France) from January 2017 to December 2023. All patients undergoing surgery for an orbital foreign body during the study period were included. Data recorded included the nature of the orbital foreign body, its size, location, surgical route, outcome (success, partial success, failure), and technological aids used (intraoperative navigation, intraoperative imaging scope, orbital magnet). Concurrently, we designed a dedicated orbital magnet, which was tested in the anatomy laboratory and in two of our patients. RESULTS: Six patients, all young men, were included during the study period. Removal was successful, partially successful, or unsuccessful in one-third of cases, respectively. Failure was associated with orbital foreign bodies located in the intraconal or posterior orbital space. Preoperatively, the use of a "low-artifact" scanner allowed us to better determine the exact size and shape of the orbital foreign body. Intraoperative navigation was not accurate enough, due to the mobility of the orbital bodies within the orbital fat. In our experience, intraoperative scope imaging was more accurate. The use of a dedicated orbital magnet was successfully tested in the anatomy laboratory and allowed the removal of a small orbital foreign body in one of our patients. Intraoperative surgical videos are provided. CONCLUSION: Vegetal orbital foreign bodies must be systematically removed. Removal of non-vegetal orbital foreign bodies should be considered on a case-by-case basis based on their size, best assessed using a "low artifact" scanner, their location, and their intrinsic ferromagnetism. Intraoperative navigation does not appear useful, while intraoperative scope imaging does. A dedicated orbital magnet might be helpful in removing ferromagnetic orbital foreign bodies. However, an orbital magnet may be ineffective in removing intraorbital bullets, since they are made primarily of an alloy of copper and lead.

This article seeks to reflect on the relationship between adolescence and body at present, from the point of view of psychoanalytic theory. In order to do this, we analyze the conception of the body in psychoanalysis starting from the works of Freud and other contemporary authors, through the concepts of hysteria, drive, self, and stage of the mirror. In this purpose, we highlight the function of the self-image in the formation of the Self in the mirror stage to understand the impacts of the destabilization of this image with the physical transformations of adolescence. We consider, then, adolescence a re-edition of the stage of the mirror where the subject, who no longer sees himself as a child but does not yet recognize his adult image, has the unity of the Self destabilized, having to reinvent a position for himself in front of the Other. Finally, we questioned the possible impacts brought by the increasing virtualization of the image on screens for these subjects

RESUMO

Sexuality is shaped by experience and by what has been passed down. Body image and sex influence desire and pleasure. In the case of endometriosis, suffering and pain can lead to shame and guilt. Encouraging people to talk to each other helps to create a free eroticism that resembles the couple.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In 2019, the World Health Organization declared the reluctance to vaccinate despite the availability of vaccination services as one of the top 10 threats to global health. In early 2021, self-reported reluctance to vaccinate among military personnel might have been considered a significant threat to national security. Having a choice architecture that made COVID-19 vaccination optional rather than required for military personnel could have inadvertently undermined military readiness if vaccination uptake did not reach an acceptable threshold. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this observational study was to examine Marines' self-reported reasons for planning to decline the COVID-19 vaccine to understand their barriers to vaccination. METHODS: As the vaccination became available to 1 company of Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST) Marines in early 2021, company command required those planning to decline vaccination to write an essay with up to 5 reasons for their choice. These essays provided the data for this study. Qualitative descriptive analysis with elements from grounded theory was used to thematically categorize FAST Marines' written reasons for planning to decline the COVID-19 vaccine into a codebook describing 8 key behavioral determinants. Interrater agreement among 2 qualitatively trained researchers was very good (κ=0.81). RESULTS: A troop of 47 Marines provided 235 reasons why they planned to decline the COVID-19 vaccine. The most frequent reasons were difficulty understanding health information (105/235, 45%), low estimates of risk (33/235, 14%), and fear of physical discomfort (29/235, 12%). Resulting interventions directly targeted Marines' self-reported reasons by reducing barriers (eg, normalized getting the vaccine), increasing vaccine benefits (eg, improved access to base gyms and recreational facilities), and increasing nonvaccine friction (eg, required in writing 5 reasons for declining the vaccine). CONCLUSIONS: Understanding the barriers military personnel experience toward COVID-19 vaccination remains critical as vaccine acquisition and availability continue to protect military personnel. Insights from subpopulations like FAST Marines can enhance our ability to identify barriers and appropriate intervention techniques to influence COVID-19 vaccination behaviors.

RESUMO

The Recruit Assessment Program (RAP) is a cross-sectional, baseline survey of U.S. Marine recruits administered at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. This report presents RAP study procedures and survey content that was administered to 229,015 participants between 2003 and 2021. Self-reported data were collected on recruit demographics, physical and mental health, adverse life experiences, lifestyle and risky behaviors, and substance use. In 2013, the survey was updated to remove questions with other linkable and reliable sources and those with low completion rates and low relevance to Marine health research; the removal of these items allowed for the addition of instrument measures for major depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anger, and resilience with no significant change to overall survey length. Average completion rates are approximately 95%. Multiple studies have shown the utility of RAP data collected thus far as a robust data repository of pre-service health and behavioral measures.

RESUMO

Unalaska Island, Alaska, served as a US military base during World War II. The military installed bases on Unalaska and nearby islands, many of which were built adjacent to Unangan communities. The military used toxic compounds in its operations and left a legacy of pollution that may pose health risks to residents and local wildlife. The goals of this study were to identify hotspots of contamination remaining at Unalaska formerly used defense (FUD) sites, evaluate the risk posed by arsenic, and examine "no US Department of Defense action indicated" (NDAI) status determinations for FUD sites near communities. We compiled soil chemistry data from remediation reports prepared by the US Army Corps of Engineers at 18 FUD sites on and near Unalaska. Nine had past and/or active remediation projects and on-site sampling data. Eight sites did not have sampling data and were characterized as NDAI. One site was listed as closed. For the nine sites with sampling data, we compiled data for 22 contaminants of concern (COC) and compared concentrations to soil cleanup levels for human health (18 AAC 75.341). We mapped contaminant concentrations exceeding these levels to identify hotspots of contamination. We found that concentrations of some of the 22 COC exceeded Alaska cleanup levels despite remediation efforts, including diesel range organics, arsenic, and lead. The highest COC concentrations were at the FUD site adjacent to the City of Unalaska. A quantitative risk assessment for arsenic found that the risk of exposure through drinking water is low. We highlight concerns with NDAI designations and current remedial practices at remote FUD sites located adjacent to communities. Our data suggest the need for further remediation and monitoring efforts on Unalaska for certain contaminants and research to examine potential threats to human and animal health associated with these sites. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Federal loan repayment programs (LRPs) are one strategy to address the shortage of behavioral health providers. This scoping review aimed to identify and characterize the federal LRPs' impact on the U.S. behavioral health workforce. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted in accordance with JBI (formerly known as the Joanna Briggs Institute) methodology for scoping reviews. The authors searched the Ovid MEDLINE, Web of Science, APA PsycInfo, EconLit, PAIS Index, and Embase databases, and gray literature was also reviewed. Two coders screened each article's abstract and full text and extracted study data. Findings were narratively synthesized and conceptually organized. RESULTS: The full-text screening identified 17 articles that met eligibility criteria. Of these, eight were peer-reviewed studies, and all but one evaluated the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) LRP. Findings were conceptually organized into five categories: descriptive studies of NHSC behavioral health needs and the NHSC workforce (k=4); providers' perceptions of, and experiences with, the NHSC (k=2); associations between NHSC funding and the number of NHSC behavioral health providers (k=4); NHSC behavioral health workforce productivity and capacity (k=3); and federal LRP recruitment and retention (k=4). CONCLUSIONS: The literature on federal LRPs and their impact on the behavioral health workforce is relatively limited. Although federal LRPs are an important and effective tool to address the behavioral health workforce shortage, additional federal policy strategies are needed to attract and retain behavioral health providers and to diversify the behavioral health workforce.

Abstract Recognition is presented as a way the psyche can develop and complexify from its encounter with the other and the affects this will arouse. Likewise, recognition is presented as a movement of affirming oneself by an element of the external environment the individual relates to. In this context, we are faced with modalities of personality interaction via non-verbal means, giving the body great relevance in our study, which presents itself as a stage that makes it possible to express and recognize certain psychic contents that could not otherwise be brought into play in relationships.

As a complex pathology, anorexia nervosa interacts with the psychological challenges of pregnancy, and raises questions about how to support the women concerned. As part of a multidisciplinary approach, support groups are particularly important, offering both individual and social support. Child-parent drop-in centers can also provide a supportive space for the psychological work of parenting.
