RESUMO

The study of diffusion in biological materials is crucial for fields like food science, engineering, and pharmaceuticals. Research that combines numerical and analytical methods is needed to better understand diffusive phenomena across various dimensions and under variable boundary conditions within food matrices. This study aims to bridge this gap by examining the diffusion of substances through biological materials analytically and numerically, calculating diffusivity and conducting surface analysis. The research proposes a process for sweetening Bing-type cherries (Prunus avium) using sucrose/xylitol solutions and a staining technique utilising erythrosine and red gardenia at varying concentrations (119, 238 and 357 ppm) and temperatures (40, 50 and 60 °C). Given the fruit's epidermis resistance, the effective diffusivities of skin were inferior to those in flesh. Temperature and concentration synergise in enhancing diffusion coefficients and dye penetration within the food matrix (357 ppm and 60 °C). Red gardenia displayed significant temperature-dependent variation (p = 0.001), whereas erythrosine dye remained stable by temperature changes (p > 0.05). Gardenia's effective diffusivities in cherry flesh and skin, at 357 ppm and 60 °C, 3.89E-08 and 6.61E-09 m2/s, respectively, significantly differed from those obtained at lower temperatures and concentrations. The results highlight the temperature-concentration impacts on mass transfer calculations for food colouring processes and preservation methodologies.

The component Allee effect (AE) is the positive correlation between an organism's fitness component and population density. Depending on the population spatial structure, which determines the interactions between organisms, a component AE might lead to positive density dependence in the population per-capita growth rate and establish a demographic AE. However, existing spatial models impose a fixed population spatial structure, which limits the understanding of how a component AE and spatial dynamics jointly determine the existence of demographic AEs. We introduce a spatially explicit theoretical framework where spatial structure and population dynamics are emergent properties of the individual-level demographic and movement rates. This framework predicts various spatial patterns depending on its specific parametrization, including evenly spaced aggregates of organisms, which determine the demographic-level by-products of the component AE. We find that aggregation increases population abundance and allows population survival in harsher environments and at lower global population densities when compared with uniformly distributed organisms. Moreover, aggregation can prevent the component AE from manifesting at the population level or restrict it to the level of each independent aggregate. These results provide a mechanistic understanding of how component AEs might operate for different spatial structures and manifest at larger scales.

RESUMO

It is discussed the relevance of quantitative approaches, specifically mathematical modelling in epidemiology, in the public health decision-making process. This topic is discussed here based on the experience of various experts in mathematical epidemiology and public health. First, the definition of mathematical modelling is presented, especially in the context of epidemiology. Second, the different uses and socio-political implications, including empirical examples of recent experiences that have taken place at the international level are addressed. Finally, some general considerations regarding the challenges encountered in the use and application of mathematical modelling in epidemiology in the decision-making process at the local and national levels.


Se trata sobre la importancia de los abordajes cuantitativos, específicamente la formulación de modelos matemáticos en epidemiología, dentro del proceso de toma de decisiones en salud pública. Esta importante temática se analiza basándose en la experiencia de algunos expertos en epidemiología matemática y salud pública. En primer lugar, se presenta la definición de modelación matemática, particularmente dentro del contexto de la epidemiología. En segundo lugar, se abordan los diferentes usos y las implicaciones socio-políticas, incluyendo ejemplos de experiencias recientes que han ocurrido a nivel internacional. Finalmente, se hace referencia a ciertas consideraciones generales respecto a los retos que representa el uso y la aplicación de modelos matemáticos en epidemiología para el proceso de toma de decisiones a nivel local y nacional.

This study is based on an investigation of the transport phenomenon, specifically the quantification of arsenic diffusion in carrots within a temperature range of 89 °C-99 °C using a thin plate model. Studying the diffusion of arsenic in carrots is important due to its toxicity, as it can concentrate during cooking. The World Health Organization considers arsenic as one of the ten chemical substances of public health concern. In this study, biennial hybrid carrots of the Nantesa variety were cooked whole with their epidermis in an aqueous solution containing diarsenic trioxide with an As concentration of 5 mgL-1 at 89 °C, 94 °C, and 99 °C. The cooking times of the carrots at different temperatures were based on a specific degree of tenderness, with a value of ≤3 kg m-2. The evaluated data showed consistency with increasing temperature. The calculated effective diffusion coefficients at temperatures of 89 °C, 94 °C, and 99 °C were 5.84E-09 m2s-1, 1.08E-08 m2s-1, and 2.51E-08 m2s-1 for the flesh (DL), and 1.601E-11 m2s-1, 2.15E-11 m2s-1, and 4.39E-11 m2s-1 for the epidermis (DE), respectively. The activation energy for diffusion was determined to be 159.54 kJmol-1 for the and 110.68 kJmol-1 for the epidermis. Similar behaviours were observed in different radial positions of the carrot, where the arsenic content decreased from the periphery to the centre, consistent with studies on diffusion phenomena with other solutes in food. The novelty was the detailed quantification of arsenic diffusion in the Nantes-type hybrid carrot matrix. This study is limited to a specific concentration of 5 mgL-1 of arsenic solution. The findings of this study may have significant implications for public health and food safety.

The lateritic ore drying in the Cuban nickel producing industry is realized within flighted rotary dryers. In this investigation, performance indicators in regards to transfer of momentum, heat and mass were evaluated. The dryers operate in a concurrent configuration with combustion gas, at a productivity between 40 t h-1 and 50 t h-1. The distribution function of the residence time (RTD) was best fitted to a model of a multi-branch tanks-in-series system, theoretical residence time was 51 ± 2 min and experimental mean residence time 61 min, at a rate of 45 t h-1 and hydraulic efficiency 1.23, due to the presence of dead-zoon. Mass and energy balance was made following a "black box" model, as results, the specific fuel consumption was 27.25 ± 0.25 kg fuel t-1 of wet ore, specific energy consumption 79.66 ± 0.95 kg fuel t-1 of H2O evaporated, energy efficiency 97.28 ± 0.01 %, thermal efficiency 66.88 ± 0.71 % and drying efficiency 98.77 ± 0.12 %. Mathematical modelling was made using a system of differential equations, the rate of drying in falling rate period was estimated by Arrhenius equation, then, temperature profile and ore moisture content along the dryer was simulated. The model provided a successful predictive performance; for an inlet gas temperature between 850 °C and 900 °C, the ore moisture was reduced form 33.0 % (wet basis) to a range depending on the dryer productivity, from 3.0 % to 7.1 %. Designing a computerized system that implements these algorithms can benefit on efficiency and productivity of the production plant.

INTRODUCTION: In 2014, Mexico implemented a one peso-per-litre tax to sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB). Even though this tax reduced household purchases and predicted population health gains, the magnitude is lower compared with taxes implemented in other settings. In this study, we assessed what would happen if Mexico modified its existing tax to get higher benefits based on currently implemented taxes elsewhere. METHODS: For each tax scenario, we estimated net benefits as the difference between healthcare savings and lost jobs. We created hypothetical scenarios in which the current tax doubled or would be modified based on existing tax designs around the world including specific taxes (sugar-density or volumetric) and ad-valorem taxes. RESULTS: We found that the largest benefits would correspond to a tax increase of 7.4 Mexican pesos (0.45 US dollars (USD)) per SSB litre, following the current tax in Bahrain (the highest tax rate option). This tax is predicted to yield net benefits equivalent to USD 24.7 billion after 10 years of the tax redesign. We also found that sugar-density taxes can result in larger net benefits since, in addition to reductions in consumption associated with responses to prices, they induce product reformulation. Middle-income households are the most benefited group because they reported the highest baseline prevalence of obesity and the largest price elasticity. CONCLUSION: Policymakers should consider pursuing a tax reform adding to the current tax, with significant increases in prices linked to a sugar-density strategy to reach a higher benefit.

Background: Plasmodium vivax malaria is challenging to control and eliminate. Treatment with radical cure drugs fails to target the hidden asymptomatic and hypnozoite reservoirs in populations. PvSeroTAT, a novel serological test-and-treat intervention using a serological diagnostic to screen hypnozoite carriers for radical cure eligibility and treatment, could accelerate P. vivax elimination. Methods: Using a previously developed mathematical model of P. vivax transmission adapted to the Brazilian context as a case study for implementation, we evaluate the public health impact of various deployment strategies of PvSeroTAT as a mass campaign. We compare relative reductions in prevalence, cases averted, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) tests, and treatment doses of PvSeroTAT campaigns to strengthened case management alone or mass drug administration (MDA) campaigns across different settings. Findings: Deploying a single round of PvSeroTAT with 80% coverage to treat cases with a high efficacy radical cure regimen with primaquine is predicted to reduce point population prevalence by 22.5% [95% UI: 20.2%-24.8%] in a peri-urban setting with high transmission and by 25.2% [95% UI: 9.6%-42.2%] in an occupational setting with moderate transmission. In the latter example, while a single PvSeroTAT achieves 9.2% less impact on prevalence and averts 300 less cases per 100,000 than a single MDA (25.2% [95% UI: 9.6%-42.2%] point prevalence reduction versus 34.4% [95% UI: 24.9%-44%]), PvSeroTAT requires 4.6 times less radical cure treatments and G6PD tests. Layering strengthened case management and deploying four rounds of PvSeroTAT six months apart is predicted to reduce point prevalence by a mean of 74.1% [95% UI: 61.3%-86.3%] or more in low transmission settings with less than 10 cases per 1000 population. Interpretation: Modelling predicts that mass campaigns with PvSeroTAT are predicted to reduce P. vivax parasite prevalence across a range of transmission settings and require fewer resources than MDA. In combination with strengthened case management, mass campaigns of serological test-and-treat interventions can accelerate towards P. vivax elimination. Pasteurized sports drinks and other fruit-based beverages are susceptible to deterioration due to thermal processing ineffectiveness to inactivate certain spoilage microorganisms, like Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris. This represents a major challenge for the beverage industry. The goals of this study were to: i) investigate the UV-C inactivation (annular thin film unit, actinometrical delivered fluence: 795-1270 mJ/cm2, 10-15 min, 20 °C, 1.8 L/h, Reh = 391-1067, recirculation mode operation) and the evolution during refrigerated storage of A. acidoterrestris ATCC 49025 spores and single or composite Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 in isotonic sports drinks (ISDs) made from orange (orange-ISD, UVT% = 81) or orange-banana-mango-kiwi-strawberry-lemon juices (multi-fruit-ISD, UVT% = 91), compared to a turbid orange-tangerine juice (OT juice, UVT% = 40); ii) assess the effect of pH, °Brix, A254nm, turbidity, colour and particle size of the ISDs and juice on microbial inactivation, iii) evaluate the evolution of native microbiota during cold storage, iv) investigate the Coroller, biphasic, Weibull, and Weibull-plus-tail models' ability to describe microbial inactivation and v) measure 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) formation. The modified biodosimetry method was used to calculate the germicidal UV-C fluences. Heat pasteurization (T-coil, 80 °C/6 min) was evaluated as the control treatment. UV-C was highly effective at inactivating E. coli as 4.1-5.1 and 4.5-5.6 log reductions were determined in the multi-fruit-ISD and orange-ISD, respectively, barely impacted by the background microbiota. No significant differences were recorded for the inactivation of E. coli in the UV-C and T-coil systems. Whereas, a significantly higher inactivation of A. acidoterrestris spores was achieved by UV-C (3.7-4.0 log reductions), compared to the negligible one achieved by the thermal treatment. Even though E. coli inactivation curves were similar in shape, UV-C was less effective when a cocktail of other E. coli strains was present. In comparison to the OT juice, the ISDs' inactivation kinetics were markedly different in shape, with a rapid decrease in population during the first minutes of treatment. The germicidal fluence (Hd biod) corresponding to A. acidoterrestris (19.1 mJ/cm2) was selected as it was higher than the one obtained for E. coli (11.0 mJ/cm2). UV-C induced 2.8- or 1.3 and 2.3- or 0.8 log-reductions of total aerobes or moulds and yeasts in the multi-fruit-ISD and orange-ISD, respectively. Compared to the other models, the Coroller and biphasic models showed a better fit and more accurate parameter estimates. UV-C-induced HMF production was not significant in the ISDs. The current study found that the UV-C treatment was more effective than typical heat pasteurization for inactivating A. acidoterrestris spores in isotonic drinks, following a similar trend for E. coli and native microbiota.

In the last two decades dengue cases increased significantly throughout the world, giving place to more frequent outbreaks in Latin America. In the non-endemic city of San Ramón de la Nueva Orán, located in Northwest Argentina, large dengue outbreaks alternate with several years of smaller ones. This pattern, as well as the understanding of the underlying mechanisms, could be essential to design proper strategies to reduce epidemic size. We develop a stochastic model that includes climate variables, social structure, and mobility between a non-endemic city and an endemic area. Climatic variables were input of a mosquito population ecological model, which in turn was coupled to a meta-population, spatially explicit, epidemiological model. Human mobility was included into the model given the high border crossing to the northern country of Bolivia, where dengue transmission is sustained during the whole year. We tested different hypotheses regarding people mobility as well as climate variability by fitting numerical simulations to weekly clinical data reported from 2009 to 2016. After assessing the number of imported cases that triggered the observed outbreaks, our model allows to explain the observed epidemic pattern. We found that the number of vectors per host and the effective reproductive number are proxies for large epidemics. Both proxies are related with climate variability such as rainfall and temperature, opening the possibility to test these meteorological variables for forecast purposes.

Organ growth driven by cell proliferation is an exponential process. As a result, even small variations in proliferation rates, when integrated over a relatively long developmental time, will lead to large differences in size. How organs robustly control their final size despite perturbations in cell proliferation rates throughout development is a long-standing question in biology. Using a mathematical model, we show that in the developing wing of the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, variations in proliferation rates of wing-committed cells are inversely proportional to the duration of cell recruitment, a differentiation process in which a population of undifferentiated cells adopt the wing fate by expressing the selector gene, vestigial. A time-course experiment shows that vestigial-expressing cells increase exponentially while recruitment takes place, but slows down when recruitable cells start to vanish, suggesting that undifferentiated cells may be driving proliferation of wing-committed cells. When this observation is incorporated in our model, we show that the duration of cell recruitment robustly determines a final wing size even when cell proliferation rates of wing-committed cells are perturbed. Finally, we show that this control mechanism fails when perturbations in proliferation rates affect both wing-committed and recruitable cells, providing an experimentally testable hypothesis of our model.

BACKGROUND: Hepatitis A is responsible for 126,000,000 cases of acute viral hepatitis distributed heterogeneously worldwide, with a high disability-adjusted life year (DALY) rate, especially in low-income countries. Data related to Hepatitis A provides information to improve control measures and identify the population at risk. This study aims to analyze temporal trends of Hepatitis A in Brazil and its regions from 2007 to 2018, based on official notification data. METHODS: Data related to Hepatitis A reported cases from 2007 to 2018 were fitted to a joinpoint model by Brazilian regions, age groups, and gender, allowing the calculation of average annual percentage change (AAPC) and annual percentage change (APC) to estimate trends of Hepatitis A in Brazil. FINDINGS: From 2007 to 2018, 65,284 Hepatitis A cases notified in Brazil were available for analysis. The Northeast Region reported 18,732 (28.69%) cases, followed by the North Region reporting 18,430 (28.23%), the Southeast Region reporting 14,073 (21.55%), the South Region reporting 7909 (12.11%), and the Central-West Region reporting 6140 (9.4%), respectively. Temporal trend analysis showed that Hepatitis A incidence decreased from 2007 to 2016 in all Brazilian regions for individuals less than 20 years old, but increased in the South and Southeast males between 10 and 39 years after 2016. CONCLUSIONS: Hepatitis A endemicity is heterogeneous among Brazilian regions. In addition, an unexpected outbreak of HAV among Southeast and South adult males in 2016 resembles the outbreak in Europe, revealing a vulnerable population that should be prioritized by vaccination programs and control measures.

Zika virus (ZIKV) is a mosquito-borne pathogen that caused a major epidemic in the Americas in 2015-2017. Although the majority of ZIKV infections are asymptomatic, the virus has been associated with congenital birth defects and neurological complications (NC) in adults. We combined multiple data sources to improve estimates of ZIKV infection attack rates (IARs), reporting rates of Zika virus disease (ZVD) and the risk of ZIKV-associated NC for 28 capital cities in Colombia. ZVD surveillance data were combined with post-epidemic seroprevalence data and a dataset on ZIKV-associated NC in a Bayesian hierarchical model. We found substantial heterogeneity in ZIKV IARs across cities. The overall estimated ZIKV IAR across the 28 cities was 0.38 (95% CrI: 0.17-0.92). The estimated ZVD reporting rate was 0.013 (95% CrI: 0.004-0.024), and 0.51 (95% CrI: 0.17-0.92) cases of ZIKV-associated NC were estimated to be reported per 10 000 ZIKV infections. When we assumed the same ZIKV IAR across sex or age group, we found important spatial heterogeneities in ZVD reporting rates and the risk of being reported as a ZVD case with NC. Our results highlight how additional data sources can be used to overcome biases in surveillance data and estimate key epidemiological parameters.

Whole and halved strawberries were dried by using three methods, which were solar tunnel drying, shade drying, and microwave drying (180W, 540W, and 900W) to determine drying characteristic and modelling. The researchers measured solar irradiation at ambient and drying air temperatures and air velocity at specific intervals in various parts of the dryer. How microwave drying (180, 540, and 900 W) affected the drying time and drying ratio of the whole and halved strawberry samples was investigated. In addition, the data on the drying process were applied to 5 different mathematical models, which were Weibull distribution, Midilli et al., Jena and Das and Aghbashlo et al. Equation Models. The researchers compared the performance levels of the models according to correlation coefficient (R2), chi-square value (χ2), besides the root mean square error (RMSE) between moisture ratios that were observed and predicted. Furthermore, the Weibull Distribution and Midilli et al. models were found to reveal the ratio of drying in a satisfactory way for all the methods of drying.(AU)


Morangos inteiros e cortados ao meio foram secos usando três métodos, que foram secagem em túnel solar, secagem à sombra e secagem por micro-ondas (180W, 540W e 900W) para determinar a característica de secagem e modelagem. Os pesquisadores mediram a irradiação solar nas temperaturas ambiente e de secagem do ar e a velocidade do ar em intervalos específicos em várias partes do secador. Como a secagem por micro-ondas (180, 540 e 900 W) afetou o tempo de secagem e a proporção de secagem das amostras inteiras e cortadas de morango foi investigado. Além disso, os dados do processo de secagem foram aplicados a 5 modelos matemáticos diferentes, que foram a distribuição de Weibull, Midilli et al., Jena e Das e Aghbashlo et al. Modelos de equação. Os pesquisadores compararam os níveis de desempenho dos modelos de acordo com o coeficiente de correlação (R2), valor do qui-quadrado (χ2), além da raiz do erro quadrático médio (RMSE) entre as razões de umidade observadas e previstas. Além disso, a Distribuição Weibull e Midilli et al. os modelos revelaram a proporção de secagem de forma satisfatória para todos os métodos de secagem.(AU)

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic had an uneven development in different countries. In Argentina, the pandemic began in March 2020 and, during the first 3 months, the vast majority of cases were concentrated in a densely populated region that includes the city of Buenos Aires (country capital) and the Greater Buenos Aires (GBA) area that surrounds it. This work focuses on the spread of COVID-19 between June and November 2020 in GBA. Within this period of time there was no vaccine, basically only the early wild strain of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was present, and the official restriction and distancing measures in this region remained more or less constant. Under these particular conditions, the incidences show a sharp rise from June 2020 and begin to decrease towards the end of August until the end of November 2020. In this work we study, through mathematical modelling and available epidemiological information, the spread of COVID-19 in this region and period of time. We show that a coherent explanation of the evolution of incidences can be obtained assuming that only a minority fraction of the population got involved in the spread process, so that the incidences decreased as this group of people was becoming immune. The observed evolution of the incidences could then be a consequence at the population level of lasting immunity conferred by SARS-CoV-2.

We propose a mathematical model to study the antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) phenomenon. Here, we explore the interaction between macrophages, dengue virus and plasma cells, especially the effect of a limitation on plasma cell proliferation, which occurs due to immunological memory. The model has up to three equilibrium points: one virus-free equilibrium and two virus-presence equilibrium, depending on the value of two thresholds. We determine the existence regions for the model equilibrium points and their stability, a sensitivity analysis was performed in the model thresholds. Numerical simulations illustrate that ADE can occur even when the basic reproduction number is less than one.

BACKGROUNDS: Brazil has suffered two waves of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The second wave, coinciding with the spread of the Gamma variant, was more severe than the first wave. Studies have not yet reached a conclusion on some issues including the extent of reinfection, the infection fatality rate (IFR), the infection attack rate (IAR) and the effects of the vaccination campaign in Brazil, though it was reported that confirmed reinfection was at a low level. METHODS: We modify the classical Susceptible-Exposed-Infectious-Recovered (SEIR) model with additional class for severe cases, vaccination and time-varying transmission rates. We fit the model to the severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) deaths, which is a proxy of the COVID-19 deaths, in 20 Brazilian cities with the large number of death tolls. We evaluate the vaccination effect by a contrast of "with" vaccination actual scenario and "without" vaccination in a counterfactual scenario. We evaluate the model performance when the reinfection is absent in the model. RESULTS: In the 20 Brazilian cities, the model simulated death matched the reported deaths reasonably well. The effect of the vaccination varies across cities. The estimated median IFR is around 1.2%. CONCLUSION: Overall, through this modeling exercise, we conclude that the effects of vaccination campaigns vary across cites and the reinfection is not crucial for the second wave. The relatively high IFR could be due to the breakdown of medical system in many cities.

The diffusion phenomena of sucrose and lactitol in cherries using different proportions during osmotic dehydration was quantified by means of a mathematical model based on Fick's second law. The average effective diffusion coefficient for soluble solids in skin and flesh are 5.37 10-11 m2∕s and 1.24 10-10 m2∕s. Whereas, for water in skin and flesh are 9.27 10-09 m2∕s and 5.48 10-08 m2∕s. A significant difference for water diffusion coefficients (p < 0.05) was observed between the treatments. This could indicate that the diffusion between species and treatments is differential. Effective diffusion coefficients for water in skin and flesh are 2 orders of magnitude greater than effective diffusion coefficients for soluble solids. This is probably due to its lesser molecular weight. Furthermore, the effective diffusion coefficients for water and soluble solids in cherry skin are between 1 and 2 orders of magnitude lower than effective diffusion coefficients for both in cherry flesh, possibly due to the barrier effect exerted by the cherry skin.

A distributed parameter model and two lumped parameter models were used in order to find the rate-limiting step in the adsorption process of a herbicide (Diuron) by Moringa oleifera husks, a possible low-cost adsorbent. For that, four kinetics assays, differentiated by the initial Diuron concentration, were performed. Langmuir isotherm well represented the equilibrium data and through this evaluation, Moringa husks proved to be a potential adsorbent for Diuron removal from water. The internal mass transfer resistance, analysed as a distributed parameter model, was found to better represent the experimental data. This fact enabled the simulation of the process according to the variation of time and space, which contributed to the better understanding of the adsorption process.

The COVID-19 outbreak has generated, in addition to the dramatic sanitary consequences, severe psychological repercussions for the populations affected by the pandemic. Simultaneously, these consequences can have related effects on the spread of the virus. Pandemic fatigue occurs when stress rises beyond a threshold, leading a person to feel demotivated to follow recommended behaviours to protect themselves and others. In the present paper, we introduce a new susceptible-infected-quarantined-recovered-dead (SIQRD) model in terms of a system of ordinary differential equations (ODE). The model considers the countermeasures taken by sanitary authorities and the effect of pandemic fatigue. The latter can be mitigated by fear of the disease's consequences modelled with the death rate in mind. The mathematical well-posedness of the model is proved. We show the numerical results to be consistent with the transmission dynamics data characterising the epidemic of the COVID-19 outbreak in Italy in 2020. We provide a measure of the possible pandemic fatigue impact. The model can be used to evaluate the public health interventions and prevent with specific actions the possible damages resulting from the social phenomenon of relaxation concerning the observance of the preventive rules imposed.

RESUMO

In order to improve cancer treatments, cancer cell differentiation and immunotherapy are the subjects of several studies in different branches of interdisciplinary sciences. In this work, we develop a new population model that integrates other complementary ones, thus emphasizing the relationship between cancer cells at different differentiation stages and the main immune system cells. For this new system, specific ranges were found where transdifferentiation of differentiated cancer cells can occur. In addition, a specific therapy against cancer stem cells was analysed by simulating cytotoxic cell vaccines. In reference to the latter, the different combinations of parameters that optimize it were studied.
