RESUMO

Versican is increased with inflammation and fibrosis, and is upregulated in Duchenne muscular dystrophy. In fibrotic diaphragm muscles from dystrophic mdx mice, genetic reduction of versican attenuated macrophage infiltration and improved contractile function. Versican is also implicated in myogenesis. Here, we investigated whether versican modulated mdx hindlimb muscle pathology, where inflammation and regeneration are increased - but fibrosis is minimal. Immunohistochemistry and qRT-PCR were used to assess how fiber type and glucocorticoids (α-methylprednisolone) modify versican expression. To genetically reduce versican, female mdx and male versican haploinsufficient (hdf) mice were bred resulting in male mdx-hdf and mdx (control) pups. Versican expression, contractile function, and pathology were evaluated in hindlimb muscles. Versican immunoreactivity was greater in slow versus fast hindlimb muscles. Versican mRNA transcripts were reduced by α-methylprednisolone in soleus, but not in fast extensor digitorum longus, muscles. In juvenile (6-week-old) mdx-hdf mice, versican expression was most robustly decreased in soleus muscles leading to improved force output and a modest reduction in fatiguability. These functional benefits were not accompanied by decreased inflammation. Muscle architecture, regeneration markers, and fiber type also did not differ between mdx-hdf mice and mdx littermates. Improvements in soleus contractile function were not retained in adult (20-week-old) mdx-hdf mice. In conclusion, soleus muscles from juvenile mdx mice were most responsive to pharmacological or genetic approaches targeting versican; however, the benefits of versican reduction were limited due to low fibrosis. Pre-clinical matrix research in dystrophy should account for muscle phenotype (including age) and the interdependence between the inflammation and fibrosis.

Introduction Provisional prosthetic restorations play a crucial role in dentistry by protecting dentinal tubules, offering thermal insulation, and ensuring a precise fit during dental treatments. Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) have improved polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), enhancing its mechanical properties such as hardness and resistance compared to traditional methods. However, bacterial accumulation remains a challenge due to inherent surface roughness. This study aims to assess and compare Streptococcus mutans adhesion on milled PMMA and conventional self-cure acrylic resin, providing insights into their microbial interaction dynamics. Materials and methods This study was a prospective trial approved by the Institutional Human Ethical Committee (SRB-IHEC) (registration number: IHEC/SDC/PROSTHO-2104/24/045) and registered in the Clinical Trial Registry, India (registration number: CTRI/2024/05/068196). The study involved 20 patients requiring single crowns in the right and left molar regions. Two groups were established: Group I (the milled PMMA group) and Group II (the conventional PMMA group). Criteria for participant selection and exclusion were set. A total of 120 swab samples from the buccal mucosa and tooth surfaces were collected before tooth preparation (the baseline) at one week and three weeks. Culture for S. mutans was done, and colony-forming units were counted. Data analysis was carried out using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 26 (Released 2019; IBM Corp., Armonk, New York, United States). An independent sample t-test was employed to compare the two materials for crowns. To analyze changes over time within each group, a repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted. When the ANOVA test indicated significance, Tukey's post-hoc test was utilized for pairwise mean comparison. The level of significance was set at P < 0.05. Results The mean colony-forming units (CFU) counts for the milled PMMA group were 4.46 ± 0.167 CFU at baseline, 4.163 ± 0.058 CFU at one week, and 3.87 ± 0.19 CFU at three weeks. The mean CFU counts for the conventional PMMA group were 4.41 ± 0.13 CFU at baseline, 4.29 ± 0.114 CFU at one week, and 4.16 ± 0.108 CFU at three weeks. At baseline (before cementation), there was no difference between milled PMMA and conventional PMMA (P = 0.578). After one week, a significant difference between milled PMMA and conventional PMMA was observed (P < 0.005). After three weeks, a significant difference between milled PMMA and conventional PMMA persisted (P < 0.005).  Conclusion There was a significant reduction in microbial adhesion in both the milled and conventional PMMA groups. However, milled PMMA demonstrated a greater decrease in microbial adhesion as compared to conventional PMMA.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of different surface treatments on the shear bond strength (SBS) of clear aligner attachments bonded to Bis-acryl provisional crowns. Methods: 120 cylindrical bisacrylic composite material (ProTemp type) specimens were prepared and divided into six groups (n = 20) based on surface treatment, control: (no treatment); super coarse grit diamond bur, carbide bur, alumina-blasting, non-thermal plasma treatment, and Er:YAG laser treatment. The features of treated surfaces were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A flowable composite resin (Transbond XT; 3M Unitek) was bonded to the specimens forming the attachment. Half of specimens were subjected to thermal cycling (5,000 cycles). SBS was measured before and after thermal cycling. Each specimen was loaded at the attachment/resin interface at a speed of 0.5 mm/min until failure. The nature of the failure was analyzed using the composite remnants index (CRI). Two-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD were used for data analysis α = 0.5. For CRI scores analysis, Kruskal-Wallis test and Dunn's multiple comparison were used as post-hoc test. Results: SEM analysis showed that all surface treatments altered surface properties and increase surface bonding area. The specimens treated with plasma, Er:YAG laser, and alumina-blasting had higher SBS values before and after thermal cycling. In comparison to control plasma, Er:YAG laser, and alumina-blasting showed a significant increase in SBS (P < 0.001) while carbide and diamond bur groups showed no significant differences (P > 0.05). Thermal cycling significantly decreased the SBS of control, carbide bur, diamond bur, and Er:YAG laser while no significant effect of alumina-blasting and plasma group. Er:YAG laser and plasma groups significantly exhibited more dominance for scores 2 and score 3 and the absence of score 0. Conclusion: Alumina-blasting, Er:YAG laser, or non-thermal plasma surface treatments increased the shear bond strength between clear aligner attachments and resin-based restorations.

Aim This study aims to evaluate the color stability of four provisional materials: polymethyl methacrylate (DPI® Self-Cure), 10-ethoxylated bisphenol A dimethacrylate (Oratemp® C&B), bis-acryl composite resin (Systemp® C&B, Ivoclar Vivadent), and bis-acryl composite (Systemp® C&B, Ivoclar Vivadent) combined with light-cure composite (Fusion Flo® LC). Materials and methods A total of 40 specimens were meticulously crafted from modeling wax into discs, each precisely 2 mm thick and 20 mm in diameter. Four provisional materials were packed into molds, yielding 10 specimens for each material group. After mixing and polymerization, the specimens were trimmed and polished. Reflectance spectrophotometers were used for initial color assessments based on the CIELAB color space system. Staining solutions, including coffee, Tata Green Tea, Pepsi, and turmeric, were prepared to mimic dietary agents. Artificial saliva, replicating oral conditions, was formulated and sterilized. The specimens were then immersed in various solutions for 15 days at 37 °C. Color measurements were taken on days 2 and 15 using the same spectrophotometer, calculating color differences (ΔE) from changes in L*, a*, and b* values. Results DPI Self-Cure (polymethyl methacrylate) was found to be the most color-stable temporary restorative material, followed by Vivadent (bis-acryl composite resin), Oratemp (10-ethoxylated bisphenol A dimethacrylate), and Fusion Flo (light-cure composite). Fusion Flo exhibited the highest color change by the 15th day. Coffee and green tea demonstrated the greatest potential for causing color changes in the provisional restorative materials. Conclusion DPI Self-Cure exhibited the highest color stability among the provisional materials, with Vivadent and Oratemp following closely behind. Green tea and coffee were the most potent staining agents, while Pepsi and turmeric induced lesser color changes.

Aim: The study aimed to comparatively evaluate the effect of eugenol exposure time on the micro-shear bond strength (µ-SBS) of etch-and-rinse and a self-etch adhesive to dentin. Materials and Methods: One hundred and twelve teeth samples were prepared from bisectioning 56 freshly extracted human mandibular molars and were randomly divided into 14 subgroups of 8 samples each (n = 8). Three subgroups containing eugenol and a noneugenol-based restorative material were placed on the dentin surface and left for 24 h, 7 days, and 14 days, respectively, and were compared to a control. Two bonding systems were evaluated: one being etch-and-rinse and the other self-etch adhesive. The µ-SBS were calculated and expressed in MPa. Statistical Analysis: The data were analyzed using mixed model analysis of variance. The level of statistical significance was set at 5%. Results: There was a statistically significant reduction in the µ-SBS values when the self-etch adhesive was used, after the removal of eugenol-containing cement placed for 24 h. However, the reduction in the µ-SBS values after 7 days or 14 days was not significant. Conclusion: Exposure to eugenol containing temporary cement for 24 h significantly reduces the µ-SBS of self-etching adhesives to dentin. However, exposure for 1 week or more has minimal effects.

Background: Side branch (SB) occlusion after main vessel stenting is the main complication in treating coronary bifurcation lesions by provisional stenting. The Jailed Wire Technique (JWT), recommended by the European Bifurcation Club, is a standard technique to deal with this issue. The Jailed Balloon Technique (JBT) has been found to be more effective than the JWT in clinical practice by some interventionists, but it has not been widely accepted. In this meta-analysis, we compared the efficacy and safety of JBT and JWT. Methods: The literature comparing JBT and JWT was systematically reviewed. Stata/MP 17.0 was used to perform a meta-analysis. The primary endpoints were major adverse cardiac events (MACE), cardiac death, myocardial infarction (MI) and target lesion revascularization (TLR). The secondary endpoints were SB occlusion and SB dissection. Aggregated odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were calculated. A sensitivity analysis was conducted if I 2 was > 50% or p < 0.01. Results: Thirteen studies involving 1789 patients were enrolled. JBT was found to have a significantly lower incidence of MACE, SB occlusion and dissection. The incidence of cardiac death, MI and TLR were also lower in the JBT group, though the differences were not significant. Conclusions: JBT prevents SB occlusion more effectively and does not increase immediate or long-term complications. JBT, or its modified versions, can be used to treat SBs with a high risk of occlusion.

RESUMO

Despite a decade of extensive research and clinical insights, percutaneous coronary intervention strategies for coronary bifurcation lesions have remained a challenging and highly debated area. This article presents a review of the latest findings and advances in defining and classifying coronary bifurcation lesions, in vitro studies, intracoronary imaging, stenting strategies, and the deployment of drug-coated balloons. Based on current evidence, this review provides recommendations for interventional cardiologists to develop individualized interventional strategies and enhance the efficiency of stenting procedures.

This study aimed to identify the ideal inter-implant distance for optimum outcome on immediately loaded implant supported prosthesis. Hence this study was taken up to analyze the effect of varying inter-implant distance on fracture resistance of implant supported provisional FDP. A total of 24 bis-acrylate composite resin samples were prepared. Inter- implant distance was present in the metal die for placement of dummy implants at distances of 14 mm, 21 mm & 30 mm respectively. Wax-up for 3 unit, 4 unit & 5 unit implant supported provisional restoration were made. Silicone molds were used for making multiple interim prostheses using bis-acrylate composite material. All samples were subjected to fracture test in the universal testing machine with a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. All samples were loaded with gradual force starting from 100 N till it fractured. The Load was applied at the center of prosthesis. Data was analyzed by one way ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc test. Mean Fracture resistance of 3 unit provisional FDP at 14 mm of inter-implant distance showed 1342.61 ± 179.15 N. Mean Fracture resistance of 4 unit provisional FDP at 21 mm of inter-implant distance showed 1420.44 ± 170.37 N. Mean Fracture resistance of 5 unit provisional FDP at 30 mm of inter-implant distance showed 791.61 ± 203.59 N. Both 14mm and 21mm of inter implant distance are suitable span lengths to be considered for the optimum outcome during immediately loading with implant supported provisional restorations. Limitations of the study was force application was static in nature and not dynamic and the arch form was not "U" shaped but longitudinal using Bis-Acrly material only with no cantilever. Future studies can be done to evaluate the fracture resistance of bis- acrylate material considering biomechanics and arch form of natural dentition. Distal cantilever should be considered along with different material for fabricating provisional restoration.

The purpose of the present study was to estimate the factors linked to the prognosis of children with provisional tic disorder (PTD). We conducted a prospective cohort study enrolled children with PTD who were subsequently followed-up at three-month intervals for 1 year post-enrolment. A total of 259 PTD patients were included in the final analysis. At the end of the follow-up period, 77 (30%) of the patients had achieved clinical remission. Result of the LASSO logistic regression analysis revealed that a disease duration >3 months (OR=4.20, 95% CI 1.20-14.73), moderate/severe tic severity (OR=5.57, 95% CI 2.26-13.76), and comorbid behavioral problems (OR=2.78, 95% CI 1.15-6.69) were significant factors linked to remission in the PTD patients. The path analysis model showed that comorbid behavioral problems and recurrence partially mediated the association between tic severity and remission, with a mediating effect of 37%. Conclusions: We have identified several significant factors linked to prognosis in children with PTD, including comorbid behavioral problems and recurrence, which were found to be important mediators. These findings provide new insights for the clinical management of patients with PTD.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate three temporary luting cements in terms of their restoration loss rates, biological interactions, esthetic properties, and handling characteristics. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 75 adults requiring fixed prosthodontics voluntarily participated in a single-blind, randomized controlled trial. After preparation, temporary restorations were luted with a randomly selected temporary luting cement (either Provicol QM Plus (PQP), Bifix Temp (BT), or Provicol QM Aesthetic (PQA)). Clinical examinations were performed one to two weeks after cementation. The following criteria were evaluated: tooth vitality, percussion, hypersensitivity, gingival bleeding, odor formation, esthetics, cement handling, removability, cleanability, and retention loss. Antagonistic teeth served as controls. Statistical analysis was performed using the paired t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's chi-square and Fisher's exact test, where appropriate. RESULTS: The overall loss rate of temporary restorations was 16.0%, showing no cement-specific differences. Postoperative hypersensitivity occurred in 8% of cases regardless of cement type. Esthetic impairment was reported by 31% of the PQP-fixed restorations, compared with 4.0% and 4.2% of the BT and PQA-bonded restorations. Cement application was reported to be easy in 100% of cases, excess removal in 88-96%, depending on the cement used. CONCLUSIONS: The choice of luting material affects the esthetic appearance of a temporary restoration and should be considered, particularly in restorations in esthetically demanding areas. No significant differences between the cements were identified regarding biocompatibility, handling, and loss rate. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Translucent cements can help to reduce color interferences, resulting in a more appealing appearance of the temporary restoration.

BACKGROUND: Provisional Tic Disorder (PTD) is common in childhood. The received wisdom among clinicians is that PTD is short-lived and mild, with at most a few tics, and rarely includes complex tics, premonitory phenomena or comorbid illnesses. However, such conclusions come from clinical experience, with biased ascertainment and limited follow-up. METHODS: Prospective study of 89 children with tics starting 0-9 months ago (median 4 months), fewer than half from clinical sources. Follow-up at 12 (± 24, 36, 48) months after the first tic. RESULTS: At study entry, many children had ADHD (39), an anxiety disorder (27), OCD (9) or enuresis (17). All had at least two current tics, with a mean total since onset of 6.9 motor and 2.0 phonic tics. Forty-one had experienced a complex tic, and 69 could suppress some tics. Tics were clinically meaningful: 64 had tics severe enough for a clinical trial, and 76 families sought medical attention for the tics. At 12 months, 79 returned, and 78 still had tics. Of these, 29 manifested no tics during history and extended examination, but only via audio-visual monitoring when the child was seated alone. Only 12/70 now had plans to see a doctor for tics. Most who returned at 2-4 years still had tics known to the child and family, but medical impact was low. CONCLUSIONS: Our results do not contradict previous data, but overturn clinical lore. The data strongly argue against the longstanding but arbitrary tradition of separating tic disorders into recent-onset versus chronic.

Background: Comparative studies of interim veneer restorations crafted using subtractive computer-aided manufacturing (s-CAM) milling technology and traditional direct hand-made approaches are needed. Purpose: This comparative in vitro study evaluated the fracture resistance of two types of provisional veneer restorations for maxillary central incisors: milled (s-CAM) and traditional direct hand-made bis-acryl veneers. Materials and methods: Fifty maxillary right central incisor veneers (25 specimens per group) were fabricated and divided according to the fabrication method: (1) s-CAM milled (Structure CAD, VOCO Dental); and (2) hand-made (Protemp Plus, 3M). The restorations were cemented onto 3D-printed resin dies using temporary cement and subjected to 1000 cycles of thermal cycling between 5° and 55 °C. These restorations subsequently were subjected to compressive loading until fracture occurred. Images of the fractured samples were captured using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Statistical analysis was performed using the one-way ANOVA test and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: Significant differences (p < 0.001) in the fracture resistance were observed between the two groups. s-CAM milled interim veneers displayed higher fracture resistance values (439.60 ± 26 N) compared to the traditional method (149.15 ± 10 N). Conclusion: The manufacturing method significantly influences the fracture resistance of interim veneer restorations. s-CAM interim laminate veneer restorations for maxillary central incisors exhibit a fracture resistance superior to that of the traditional method using bis-acryl.Clinical relevanceClinicians should consider CAD/CAM milled veneers for scenarios demanding long-term interim restoration and the withstanding of high occlusal forces.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the mechanical performance of patient-specific prefabricated temporary shell versus laboratory-fabricated CAD/CAM provisional restorations on titanium temporary abutments, with and without thermo-mechanical ageing. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Implants with a conical connection were divided into four groups (n = 24) and restored with temporary shell or laboratory-fabricated central or lateral incisor PMMA restorations that were relined or bonded on titanium temporary abutments. The diameter of the central and lateral incisor groups' implants was regular (ϕ 4.3 mm) or narrow (ϕ 3.5 mm), respectively. Half of each group's specimens were subjected to ageing, simultaneous thermocycling (5-55°C) and chewing simulation (120,000 cycles, 50 N, 1.7 Hz) resulting in eight groups in total (n = 12). The aged specimens were evaluated with optical microscopy, and survival and complication rates were determined according to modified USPHS criteria. The non-aged specimens and those that had survived ageing were loaded until failure, whereupon bending moments were calculated. RESULTS: Survival rates after ageing were 100% for all groups. Apart from wear facets (ϕ 2-3 mm) on the palatal restoration surface, no complications were observed. The mean fracture load and bending moments ranged between 597.6-847.1 N and 433.3-550.6 Ncm, respectively, with no significant differences between the eight groups (p = .25; p = .20). CONCLUSIONS: As patient-specific temporary shell central and lateral incisor provisional implant-supported restorations are mechanically stable enough to withstand clinical bite forces, even after thermo-mechanical ageing, they may serve as an alternative to laboratory-fabricated provisional restorations.

Despite recent advancements, challenges persist in determining the optimal stenting strategy for LM bifurcation disease. Hence, this systematic review aims to compare single provisional and systematic dual stenting for managing LM bifurcation disease. A systematic search was performed until January 14, 2024. For the effect measure, risk ratios (RRs) was calculated. This study included 22 studies with 10776 participants. The all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality revealed comparable outcomes between provisional and dual-systematic stenting (RR 1.13, CI95 %: 0.87-1.47, p 0.36, I2 59 %; RR 1.16, CI95 %: 0.73-1.84, p 0.63, I2 80 %). In addition, MACE, MI, TLR, TVR, and in stent thrombosis also showed similar findings. Subgroup analysis revealed that cohort studies was the source of heterogeneity in all-cause mortality, stent thrombosis, and TLR. This meta-analysis suggests comparable outcomes between provisional and dual-systematic stenting in managing LM bifurcation disease. Further study is needed to validate the outcomes of novel techniques.

AIMS: Healthcare needs of the Australian population are changing, providing an opportunity for dietitians to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship to meet evolving demands. This study explored the expectations and experiences of participants in a 12-month mentoring circle designed to provide entrepreneurship learning and formal mentoring for the Provisional Accredited Practising Dietitians Program. METHODS: A qualitative study design was employed. New graduate dietitians (<2 years) participating in the Entrepreneurial Dietetics Mentoring Circle in 2019, 2020 or 2021 were invited to participate. Baseline demographic and employment data were collected via survey. Semi-structured interviews were conducted before mentoring circle session 1 (baseline) and after the final session (completion), exploring insights into participant expectations and experiences in entrepreneurship. Thematic analysis, using methods outlined by Braun and Clark, was conducted to identify themes and subthemes. RESULTS: Twenty-eight dietitians participated (85% of mentees). Participants were mostly female (89%), less than 12 months post-graduation (75%), registered as Provisional Accredited Practising Dietitians (82%) and employed at least part-time (55%). Forty five interviews were conducted (28 baseline, 18 completion). Themes developed were: (1) entrepreneurial career path as a deliberate choice; (2) the value of being prepared for entrepreneurial careers; and (3) the importance of networks to support entrepreneurship. CONCLUSION: The mentoring circle at this single university was seen by participants as supporting their transition into entrepreneurial careers, while meeting their requirement to be formally mentored through their Provisional status. Future research could consider the applicability of the mentoring circle model across a wider graduate population to support innovative practice.

Introduction: Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technologies have been increasingly used to fabricate provisional restorations in recent years. This study assessed how build orientation influences the fracture resistance and marginal quality of 3D-printed crowns compared with milled provisional crowns. Methods: The test group included 3D-printed crowns (Freeprint temp Shade A2, Detax, Ettlingen, Germany), which were further subdivided based on print orientation (0°, 45°, and 90°; n = 10 for each subgroup). The control group (n = 10) included milled crowns (Coratemp, White Peaks, Germany) with the same design as those of the test group. The margin quality of each crown was assessed at 60 × magnification using a digital stereomicroscope. A load-to-fracture test was performed by applying a force at a rate of 2 mm/min to assess fracture resistance. One sample from each subgroup was also subjected to scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis. Results: The milled group exhibited the highest fracture resistance and marginal quality. Within the printed subgroups, the 0° group showed the best mean marginal quality, whereas the 90° group showed the lowest mean marginal quality (p < 0.05). Within the test groups, the 90° group had the highest mean fracture resistance (p < 0.05). In the SEM analysis, the milled group exhibited the most homogenous boundaries, whereas among the 3D-printed subgroups, the samples printed at 0° had the best margin quality. Conclusion: The manufacturing method significantly influences the marginal quality and fracture resistance. Milled crowns demonstrated superior marginal quality and fracture resistance compared to those of 3D printed crowns. Furthermore, the print orientation of 0° led to the best marginal quality, whereas printing at 90° led to the highest fracture resistance.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of metal primer II (MP II) on the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets bonded to teeth and bis-acryl composite provisional material (Bis-Acryl). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty extracted human premolars specimens and 20 premolar shaped Bis-Acryl specimens were obtained and randomly divided into two surface groups. The first group consisted of human premolars (T) bonded to brackets in the conventional way while in the second (T-MP) MP II was applied on the bracket base before bonding. Similarly, one group of provisional material (PM) was prepared according to conventional treatment and another with the application of MP-II metal bonder (PM-MP). In all cases Ortho-brackets (Victory Series, 3 M) were bonded employing Transbond XT resin cement. Then the brackets were debonded under shear and the results were statistically analyzed by two-way analysis of variance and Holm Sidak at α = .05. The debonded surfaces of all specimens were examined by light microscopy and the Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI) was recorded. RESULTS: The SBS results exhibited significant differences er (p < .001). For both the T and TM the application of MP-II increased the SBS compared to respective control groups (p < .001). The T-C group was found inferior compared to PM-C (p < .001) and the same is true for the comparison between T-MP and PM-MP (p < .001). ARI indexes demonstrated that the tooth groups were characterized by a predominantly adhesive failure at the resin-dentin interface. In contrast, the control group for provisional crowns (PM-C) showed a predominantly cohesive failure mode, which moved to predominantly adhesive after the application of MP II. CONCLUSION: The application of MP II enhances the SBS on both, human enamel and provisional crown materials.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of common beverages on four currently used provisional restoration materials: Protemp®4, Integrity®, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) block, and acrylic resin. Flowable resin composite is included as a control group. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Each material was formed into disks of 10-mm diameter and 4-mm thickness (N = 40) by loading the material into acrylic molds. The exposed surface in the mold was covered using a glass slide to prevent an oxygen inhibition layer, and polymerization then proceeded. The solidified disks were placed in distilled water for 24 h. These samples (n = 8) were then immersed for 14 days in one of four different beverages: water, orange juice, cola, and coffee. Changes in color dimension, hardness, and roughness were observed and then analyzed using two-way repeated analysis of variance. RESULTS: The provisional materials had more obvious changes in all three color dimensions than the flowable resin composite. Integrity showed the biggest changes, followed by acrylic resin and PMMA block, whereas Protemp had the smallest changes. The hardness of all the materials significantly decreased after immersion in any of the beverages for 14 days. There were no changes in surface roughness when the materials were immersed in distilled water. The surface roughness of the PMMA block significantly decreased in orange juice whereas that of Integrity and acrylic resin significantly increased in cola. CONCLUSION: Different kinds of provisional materials had different degrees of staining due to their composition. Moisture had a significant influence on the hardness of materials, and the acidity of cola significantly roughened the surface of the provisional materials.

During the preparation of fixed prosthesis (including individual bridges and crowns) it is important to select the materials that have the best features and properties to predict a successful clinical treatment. The objective of this study was to determine if the chemical and structural characteristics could cause to increase the fracture resistance, we used four bis-acryl resins Luxatemp, Protemp, Structur and Telio. Three-points bending by Flexural test were performed in ten bars and they were carried out to compare with Anova test. In addition, the bis-acryl resins were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, to analyze microstructure and morphology and the molecular structure were performed by Infrared Spectroscopy through Attenuated Total Reflectance. A higher flexural strength was found in Luxatemp and Structur with, no significant differences between this study groups. Regarding Protemp and Telio, these study groups showed a lower flexural strength when were compared with Luxatemp and Structur. These results corroborate SEM and ATR analysis because Luxatemp sample showed a regular size particle on the surface and chemically presents a long cross-linkage polymer chain. The presence of CO3, SiO2 and N-H groups as a fillers particle interacting with OH groups cause a higher flexural strength compared with another groups.

This study aimed to evaluate and compare the impact of additives such as ZrO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles (ZrO2NP or SiO2NP) on the hardness, surface roughness, and color stability of 3D printed provisional restorations. Two hundred samples in total were printed using 3D printed resins (ASIGA, and NextDent). Each resin was modified with ZrO2NPs or SiO2NPs in two different concentrations (0.5 wt% and 1 wt%), while one group was kept unmodified (n = 10). Disc-shaped (15 × 2.5 mm) samples were designed and printed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendation. Printed discs were evaluated for color changes through parameters CIELAB 2000 system (ΔE00), hardness using Vickers hardness test, and surface roughness (Ra) using a noncontact profilometer. After calculating the means and standard deviations, a three-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc test were performed at α = 0.05. The addition of ZrO2NPs or SiO2NPs to ASIGA and NextDent resins significantly increased the hardness at a given level of concentration (0.5% or 1%) in comparison with pure (p < 0.001), with no significant difference between the two modified groups per resin type (p > 0.05). The highest hardness value was detected in 1% ZrO2NPs with 29.67 ± 2.3. The addition of ZrO2NPs or SiO2NPs had no effect on the Ra (p > 0.05), with 1% ZrO2NPs showing the highest value 0.36 ± 0.04 µm with NextDent resin. ZrO2NPs induced higher color changes (∆E00), ranging from 4.1 to 5.8, while SiO2NPs showed lower values, ranging from 1.01 to 1.85, and the highest mean ∆E00 was observed in the 1% ZrO2NPs group and NextDent resin. The incorporation of ZrO2NPs and SiO2NPs in 3D printed provisional resins increased the hardness without affecting the surface roughness. The optical parameters were significantly affected by ZrO2NPs and less adversely affected by SiO2NPs. Consequently, care must be taken to choose a concentration that will improve the materials' mechanical performance without detracting from their esthetic value.
