RESUMO

In order to enhance the stability of the tilt transition process, a new configuration of Quad-Tiltrotor UAV was presented in this paper. Firstly, numerical simulation was used to calculate and analyze the aerodynamic interaction between the front rotor/fuselage/rear rotor during the transition state mode. The calculation model of the isolated rotor, front-rear rotor, front rotor-fuselage, and front rotor-rear rotor-fuselage combination states are established. Besides, the effects of pitch, roll, and yaw moment on the fuselage at different tilt angles are analyzed. It is concluded that the front rotor is the leading factor in the aerodynamic interference of the whole UAV in the different combination states. The research results can provide a reference for the optimization design of the overall layout, structure, and flight control strategy of the cross-shaped quad-tiltrotor UAV, and can also provide solutions for the logistics application of urban air traffic.

BACKGROUND: Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK and the leading cause of cancer mortality globally. NHS England guidance for optimum lung cancer care recommends management and treatment by a specialist team, with experts concentrated in one place, providing access to specialised diagnostic and treatment facilities. However, the complex and rapidly evolving diagnostic and treatment pathways for lung cancer, together with workforce limitations, make achieving this challenging. This place-based, behavioural science-informed qualitative study aims to explore how person-related characteristics interact with a person's location relative to specialist services to impact their engagement with the optimal lung pathway, and to compare and contrast experiences in rural, coastal, and urban communities. This study also aims to generate translatable evidence to inform the evidence-based design of a patient engagement intervention to improve lung cancer patients' and informal carers' participation in and experience of the lung cancer care pathway. METHODS: A qualitative cross-sectional interview study with people diagnosed with lung cancer < 6 months before recruitment (in receipt of surgery, radical radiotherapy, or living with advanced disease) and their informal carers. Participants will be recruited purposively from Barts Health NHS Trust and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trusts to ensure a diverse sample across urban and rural settings. Semi-structured interviews will explore factors affecting individuals' capability, opportunity, and motivation to engage with their recommended diagnostic and treatment pathway. A framework approach, informed by the COM-B model, will be used to thematically analyse facilitators and barriers to patient engagement. DISCUSSION: The study aligns with the current policy priority to ensure that people with cancer, no matter where they live, can access the best quality treatments and care. The evidence generated will be used to ensure that lung cancer services are developed to meet the needs of rural, coastal, and urban communities. The findings will inform the development of an intervention to support patient engagement with their recommended lung cancer pathway. PROTOCOL REGISTRATION: The study received NHS Research Ethics Committee (Ref: 23/SC/0255) and NHS Health Research Authority (IRAS ID 328531) approval on 04/08/2023. The study was prospectively registered on Open Science Framework (16/10/2023; https://osf.io/njq48 ).

This study examines managing urban energy systems in the Sichuan Basin, considering natural gas production. An integrated approach assessed the economy, energy, ecology, and technology (EEET) connections. The study identifies systemic issues and significant differences across locations and emphasizes the interdependent nature of economic expansion, energy innovations, and environmental commitment. Findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, providing strategic directions for overcoming barriers to sustainable city and energy advancements, and nurturing resilient urban environments. The EEET framework sheds light on the complex interactions of urban development, enabling officials to focus on areas for improvement. Addressing conflicts can create more cohesive and sustainable urban landscapes, uncovering serious environmental and energy-use issues in cities with dense industrial zones. Decision-makers could prioritize solutions like enforcing pollution controls and encouraging green energy use. Addressing disputes among urban development participants can craft strategies to encourage cooperation, finding win-win outcomes for sustainable city growth.

PURPOSE: This study aims to comprehensively examine the determinants of depression among urban older adults in Seoul, utilizing the social-ecological model to address multifaceted influences. METHODS: A comprehensive analysis was conducted using data from the 2022 Seoul Aging Survey, which surveyed 2,914 individuals aged 65 and above. A multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors contributing to depressive symptoms, including socio-demographic characteristics, health behaviors and status, research accessibility, social support, and environmental influences. RESULTS: This study revealed that poor subjective health (OR = 1.47) and the presence of multiple chronic diseases (OR = 1.59) significantly increased the risk of depressive symptoms among urban older adults. From a social support standpoint, living alone was associated with a higher risk of depression (OR = 1.66), low food security (OR = 2.56), and low digital competency (OR = 2.70) were all significant predictors of depressive symptoms. Additionally, a lack of engagement with cultural facilities (OR = 2.15) was identified as a critical environmental factor contributing to depression. CONCLUSIONS: The findings underscore the need for comprehensive policy and practical interventions aimed at preventing chronic disease, enhancing social support networks, improving digital literacy, ensuring food security, and expanding access to healthcare and cultural facilities. Such measures are crucial in mitigating depression among urban older adults, thereby enhancing their overall well-being and quality of life.

INTRODUCTION: Obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2DM) are growing global health concerns. A disproportionate number of Indigenous Peoples live with obesity and its complications. Bariatric surgery offers superior weight loss and comorbidity resolution when compared to medical management. There is a paucity of literature regarding the experiences of Indigenous Peoples undergoing bariatric surgery. The aim of this study was to employ two-eyed seeing and a decolonizing approach to explore the experiences of urban Indigenous bariatric surgery patients. METHODS: An Indigenous Advisory Committee guided the conception and design of the study. Four urban Indigenous bariatric surgery patients with T2DM participated in two sequential sharing circles and individual interviews facilitated by an Elder. Audio transcripts were analyzed for emerging themes using inductive thematic analysis. RESULTS: Themes generated from shared participant experiences and knowledge included the following: (1) Experiencing hardship or challenges; (2) Reflecting on the importance of supports; (3) Understanding relationships with food; and (4) Healing and recovery. Overall, the participants described a generally positive experience with the bariatric pathway. Participants also described varied connectedness to their Indigenous identity but uniformly expressed interest in more culturally diverse supports such as sharing circles, access to an elder, and Indigenous peer mentorship. CONCLUSIONS: Indigenous Peoples have strong motivators for pursuing bariatric surgery and desire access to culturally relevant supports. Suggestions for program improvement included offering sharing circles, providing access to an elder, and Indigenous peer mentorship. This study is the first to qualitatively explore the bariatric surgery experiences of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

Discarded vehicle tires serve as habitat for mosquito vectors. In New Orleans, Louisiana, discarded tires are an increasingly important public concern, especially considering that the city is home to many medically important mosquito species. Discarded tires are known to be associated with mosquito abundance, but how their presence interacts with other socioenvironmental gradients to influence mosquito ecology is poorly understood. Here, we ask whether discarded tire distribution could be explained by social factors, particularly median income, home vacancy and human population density, and whether these factors interact with urban heat islands (UHI) to drive mosquito vector assemblages. We surveyed tire piles across the city and adult mosquitoes in 12 sites, between May and October of 2020. We compared this data with the social indicators selected and UHI estimates. Our results show that median income and human population density were inversely related to tire abundance. Tire abundance was positively associated with Aedes albopictus abundance in places of low heat (LS) severity. Heat was the only predictor for the other monitored species, where high heat corresponded to higher abundance of Aedes aegypti, and LS to higher abundance of Culex quinquefasciatus. Our results suggest that low-income, sparsely populated neighborhoods of New Orleans may be hotspots for discarded vehicle tires, and are associated with higher abundances of at least one medically important mosquito (Ae. albopictus). These findings suggest potential locations for prioritizing source reduction efforts to control mosquito vectors and highlight discarded tires as a potential exposure pathway to unequal disease risk for low-income residents.

The most widely used herbicide glyphosate contaminates surface waters around the globe. Both agriculture and urban applications are discussed as sources for glyphosate. To better delineate these sources, we investigated long-term time series of concentrations of glyphosate and its main transformation product aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) in a large meta-analysis of about 100 sites in the USA and Europe. The U.S. data reveal pulses of glyphosate and AMPA when the discharge of the river is high, likely indicating mobilization by rain after herbicide application. In contrast, European concentration patterns of glyphosate and AMPA show a typical cyclic-seasonal component in their concentration patterns, correlating with patterns of wastewater markers such as pharmaceuticals, which is consistent with the frequent detection of these compounds in wastewater treatment plants. Our large meta-analysis clearly shows that for more than a decade, municipal wastewater was a very important source of glyphosate. In addition, European river water data show rather high and constant base mass fluxes of glyphosate all over the year, not expected from herbicide application. From our meta-analysis, we define criteria for a source of glyphosate, which was hidden so far. AMPA is known to be a transformation product not only of glyphosate but also of aminopolyphosphonates used as antiscalants in many applications. As they are used in laundry detergents in Europe but not in the USA, we hypothesize that glyphosate may also be a transformation product of aminopolyphosphonates.

The study focuses on current pollution in the Saïda basin, a semi-arid region in north-western Algeria. By analyzing sediments, the study provides interesting results on urban pollution and its environmental impact. The research consists of two main phases, each addressing different aspects of pollution. In the first phase, different pollution indicators are used to analyze heavy metals and organic pollutants in urban drainage sediments. The results are compared with sediment quality guidelines, regulatory thresholds, and local and international references. Most of the metallic contaminants exceed the toxicity levels established by the continental crust and sediment quality guidelines, suggesting an anthropogenic origin. In addition, contamination indices show significant accumulation. In this context, the results highlight the importance of accumulation and transport processes in urban sediments. Hydrological parameters significantly influence heavy metal distribution mechanisms. Remarkable variations between copper (Cu) and lead (Pb) suggest a combined or singular source during transport. Conversely, chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and iron (Fe) are mainly derived from natural lithological sources. Cadmium (Cd) is associated with anthropogenic sources related to the agricultural use of phosphate fertilizers, whereas zinc (Zn) is mainly derived from physical corrosion processes. In the second phase, a combined descriptive and multivariate statistical analysis examines the mobility and distribution of heavy metals and their relationships with organic matter (OM) over time. Pronounced temporal variations in Cd, Zn, and Cu concentrations are attributed to human activities. Strong correlations exist between OM and cobalt (Co), Cu and Pb, confirming the ability of OM to adsorb these metals under specific geochemical conditions associated with waste disposal. Conversely, Zn, Cd, Cr, and Ni show weak or negative correlations with OM, suggesting diverse sources, including potential agricultural, industrial, and natural origins. The dendrogram confirms the existence of previously identified contaminant groups, suggesting common sources and potential co-occurrence patterns. This analysis highlights the role of the drainage network as a physico-chemical reactor in the mobilization of contaminants. It underlines the importance of sediment interactions in urban pollution processes. Finally, recommendations are proposed to ensure effective pollution control and remediation. PRACTITIONER POINTS: Useful information on pollution and its environmental impact is provided by the analysis of sediments in the urban basin of Saida (NW-Algeria). The results of this study indicate high levels of heavy metals in the sediments, in excess of toxicity limits, and evidence of anthropogenic sources. Temporal variations in metal concentrations indicate the influence of human activities. The study has made it possible to identify the sources, to understand the mobility and distribution, and to control the contamination by heavy metals in the urban sediments. Drainage system serves as a pathway for dispersing contaminants.

Accurate forecast of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is crucial for city air pollution control, yet remains challenging due to the complex urban atmospheric chemical and physical processes. Recently deep learning has been routinely applied for better urban PM2.5 forecasts. However, their capacity to represent the spatiotemporal urban atmospheric processes remains underexplored, especially compared with traditional approaches such as chemistry-transport models (CTMs) and shallow statistical methods other than deep learning. Here we probe such urban-scale representation capacity of a spatiotemporal deep learning (STDL) model for 24-hour short-term PM2.5 forecasts at six urban stations in Rizhao, a coastal city in China. Compared with two operational CTMs and three statistical models, the STDL model shows its superiority with improvements in all five evaluation metrics, notably in root mean square error (RMSE) for forecasts at lead times within 12 h with reductions of 49.8 % and 47.8 % respectively. This demonstrates the STDL model's capacity to represent nonlinear small-scale phenomena such as street-level emissions and urban meteorology that are in general not well represented in either CTMs or shallow statistical models. This gain of small-scale representation in forecast performance decreases at increasing lead times, leading to similar RMSEs to the statistical methods (linear shallow representations) at about 12 h and to the CTMs (mesoscale representations) at 24 h. The STDL model performs especially well in winter, when complex urban physical and chemical processes dominate the frequent severe air pollution, and in moisture conditions fostering hygroscopic growth of particles. The DL-based PM2.5 forecasts align with observed trends under various humidity and wind conditions. Such investigation into the potential and limitations of deep learning representation for urban PM2.5 forecasting could hopefully inspire further fusion of distinct representations from CTMs and deep networks to break the conventional limits of short-term PM2.5 forecasts.

Monitoring and management of alien coypu (Myocastor coypus) is a key issue in Europe since this species has been included in the EU Invasive Alien Species Regulation 1143/2014. Thus, controlling the population of this rodent is considered as imperative by wildlife managers. Coypu management in urban areas is crucial considering potential conflicts with human activities. The aim of this study is to investigate citizens' knowledge, perceptions and opinions towards the presence and management of coypu in a case study in Central Italy (the Serravalle urban park, Tuscany). The survey was administered to a subset of municipal residents and garnered responses from 281 park visitors. The outcomes showed a high level of knowledge of respondents: 99.3% of total respondents had heard of coypu before this survey, and 93.9% were able to distinguish the coypu from the Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber). Despite the importance of coypu control in invaded countries, our results highlight that most respondents are against the removal of coypu, with the exception of most young, highly-educated and upperclass men, but favouring sterilization over capture and population control. Findings of this study could assist managers in enhancing the efficacy of management efforts via an information initiative involving the general public. Achieving this goal may entail improved communication by wildlife managers, which is imperative for optimizing management strategies regarding alien species.

BACKGROUND: Low income communities are vulnerable to non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which affect their economy and disability status. An effective approach to address the NCD burden is through the multidimensional concept of health-promoting lifestyle. Another preferred approach by the population worldwide for NCD treatment is natural health product (NHP). Studies on NHP and health-promoting lifestyle among this vulnerable population, specifically the low-income urban community, are limited. Therefore, this study, aimed at investigating the NHP knowledge and health-promoting lifestyle, and to determine the factors associated with health-promoting lifestyle in a low income urban community in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. This study has focused on sociodemographic characteristics, annual health monitoring activities, and health status, which are modifiable and non-modifiable factors. METHODS: Phase 1 of the study involves developing the Malay-version NHP knowledge questionnaire, whereas Phase 2 involves a cross-sectional study of 446 randomly selected low-income respondents to determine their level of health-promoting lifestyle and the associated factors. The respondents' sociodemographic, socioeconomic, health monitoring activity, health status, and NHP knowledge data were obtained using the newly developed Malay-version NHP questionnaire and the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP II) questionnaire. The independent variables include sociodemographic status, annual health monitoring activities, health status and NHP knowledge were analysed using simple and multiple linear regression. RESULTS: In this study, the 10-item NHP knowledge questionnaire developed in the Malay version contains two domains [safe use (eight items) and point of reference (two items)] (total variance explained: 77.4%). The mean of NHP knowledge score was 32.34 (standard deviation [SD] 7.37). Meanwhile, the mean score of health-promoting lifestyle was 109.67 (SD 25.01). The highest and lowest scores of health-promoting lifestyles are attributed to spiritual growth and physical activity, respectively. Ethnicity is associated with a higher health-promoting lifestyle level, same goes to the occupational status - NHP knowledge interaction. "Unclassified" education status and annual blood glucose level monitoring are associated with a lower level of health-promoting lifestyle. CONCLUSION: A new questionnaire in Malay version was developed to measure NHP knowledge. Compared to other subpopulations, the respondents' health-promoting lifestyle levels in this study were low, associated with ethnicity, education status, and health monitoring activities. The findings provided insight into the interaction between NHP knowledge and occupational status, which is associated with a higher health-promoting lifestyle level. Accordingly, the future health-promoting lifestyle intervention programmes in healthcare delivery should target these factors.

Here we report on the detection and surveillance response to two Rugonectria species found in Sydney, Australia, in 2015. Both Rugonectria castaneicola and R. wingfieldii sp. nov. were found in association with cankers on Quercus robur (English oak). The fungi were initially found to be localised on amenity trees in northern Sydney, New South Wales, and as they were new detections for Australia, eradication was considered. Ongoing surveillance across the Sydney basin, regional New South Wales, and the Australian Capital Territory, however, indicated that they were already well established. Species identities were confirmed through morphological examination and molecular barcoding, with the subsequent analysis undertaken to classify R. wingfieldii sp. nov. Urban infrastructure can be depicted as critical facilities for providing urban public services and supporting urban socioeconomic activities. Economic growth, especially the provision of sustainable mobility in urban areas, is found to be reliant on the availability of effective transport infrastructure. Urban transport assets, mainly road and railway infrastructure, have notable influence on the safety and convenient connectivity of economies, communities, and ecosystems. While the vitality of urban transport infrastructure provision is well recognized, its practice is marred by several challenges. Addressing those challenges may require interventions throughout the life cycle of the facilities, including planning, design, construction, commissioning, operation, and demolition phases. This study, however, focuses on formulating key guiding principles and methods for effective design of transport infrastructure in urban areas of Ethiopia. The provision of transport infrastructure requires an effective design methodology throughout the lifecycle of the built element. The study involved a thorough analysis of the literature review to identify the current delivery approaches, and a questionnaire survey with a sample size of 204 (N = 204) was then utilized to determine, based on the opinions of experts, the most efficient methods of delivering transportation infrastructure. A descriptive and factor analysis were utilized to forward the demographic data of the research findings and to identify the key components of transport infrastructure delivery through design, respectively. The study found that the principal components that directly impact the design and delivery process of urban transport are design context, design necessities, institutional competency, and professional competency. It can be concluded that consideration of the principal components at the time of design assignment would facilitate the design products' effectiveness.

While there is a growing interest in citizen-led initiatives, there is still no consensus on how to situate them, especially in relation to state institutions. On the one hand, citizen-led initiatives are seen as being co-opted by formal institutions in a context of austerity. On the other hand, these initiatives are often presented as "spaces of resistance" to neoliberalism, or as political acts of reclaiming the city. Mapping and tracing urban gardening and dumpster diving from their grassroots emergence to their inclusion in the institutional world through a two-level analysis, we show that individuals and loosely organized collectives involved in such initiatives are embedded in complex relationships with local institutions and third sector organizations that do, in turn, structure their practice and its consequences. The two-level analysis we propose follows this process: it is through interactions and relationships with other "practitioners" and with their social and institutional environment that these urban social practices gradually institutionalize.

Limited open areas for urban agriculture and greenery have led to the search for innovative, sustainable growing media to strengthen the food supply and improve atmospheric quality for a resilient city. Rampant land developments have caused soil to become increasingly scarce. Sewage sludge incineration ash (SSIA), the by-product of waste-to-energy (WtE) incineration of sewage sludge, is a major municipal waste containing phosphorus-fertilizing nutrients. For the first time, we investigated the novel application of SSIA as a soilless plant-growing medium with built-in fertilizer. SSIA outperformed topsoil in bulk density, water-holding capacity, porosity, and nutrient content. However, it was found that SSIA has a high salinity and should be treated first. Wheatgrass (Triticum aestivum L.), a fast-growing glycophyte, thrived in the desalinated SSIA, showing growth and nutrient content comparable to the topsoil case. Simultaneously, it demonstrated phytoremediation. The SSIA residue was then recycled into cementitious materials, using desalinating water for mixing. SSIA upcycle into a growing medium facilitates urban resource management by utilizing nutrients in sewage waste for eco-friendly plant cultivation, benefiting urban agriculture and greenery. It is also a prudent valorization step before further recycling SSIA to reduce landfill requirements.

The urban heat island (UHI) effect has become increasingly prevalent and significant with the accelerated pace of urbanization, posing challenges for urban planners and policymakers. To reveal the spatiotemporal variations of the urban heat island effect in Jinan City, this study utilized Landsat satellite images from 2009, 2014, and 2019, employing the classic Mono-Window algorithm to extract land surface temperature (LST). Additionally, Geodetector was introduced to conduct a detailed analysis of the relationship between LST in Jinan City and land cover types (vegetation, water bodies, and buildings). The results indicate a significant increase in the severity of the urban heat island effect in Jinan from 2009 to 2019, with the central urban area consistently exhibiting a high-intensity core heat island. Suburban areas of Jinan show a clear trend of merging their heat island effects with the central urban area. The combined area of strong cool island effect zones and cool island effect zones within water bodies reaches 89.7%, while the combined proportion of heat island and strong heat island effect zones in building areas is 62.2%. Vegetation cover (FVC) exerts the greatest influence among all factors on the intensity level of the urban heat island effect. These findings provide a reliable basis for decision-making related to urban planning and construction in Jinan City.

No known studies have examined the relationships between urban heat islands, historic redlining, and neighborhood walking in older adults. We assessed whether (1) individual and neighborhood characteristics (including redlining score) differ by neighborhood summer land surface temperature (LST); (2) higher LST is associated with less neighborhood walking, and whether associations differ by historic redlining score; and (3) neighborhoods with discriminatory redlining scores have greater LSTs. We used data on 3982 ≥ 65 years old from the 2017 National Household Travel Survey. Multivariable negative binomial and linear regressions tested associations between LST z-score (comparing participant's neighborhood LST to surrounding region's LST) and self-reported neighborhood walking and the association between living in neighborhoods redlined as "definitely declining" or "hazardous" (versus "still desirable"/"best") and LST z-score. LSTs were higher for those in neighborhoods with higher area deprivation scores and more African American/Black residents. Older adults living in neighborhoods with higher summer LST z-scores had fewer minutes of neighborhood walking/day. This association seemed limited to individuals with neighborhood redlining scores of "still desirable"/"best." Neighborhood redlining scores of "definitely declining" or "hazardous" (versus "still desirable" and "best") were associated with greater neighborhood summer LSTs. Overall, these findings suggest that historically redlined neighborhoods may experience urban heat island effects more often. While older adults living in hotter neighborhoods with "still desirable" or "best" redlining scores may less often engage in neighborhood walking, those in neighborhoods with redlining scores of "definitely declining" and "hazardous" do not seem to decrease neighborhood walking with higher LSTs. Future work is needed to elucidate the impact of extreme heat on health-promoting behaviors such as walking and the types of interventions that can successfully counteract negative impacts on historically disadvantaged communities.

The social service approach for the elderly that emerged in the USSR in the late 1980s and was introduced within the framework of a federal law in 1995 was oriented towards care and service provision. However, various authors have noted that the needs of the elderly and the availability of services often do not coincide, and this gap is growing with the change of generations of the elderly. The modern approach, the founder of which was the Polish demographer E.Rosset, reflected in a number of international documents, prioritizes supporting employment and maintaining independence for the elderly for as long as possible. However, there is still little research clarifying the specific services needed by the elderly themselves. The aim of this article is to demonstrate that the needs and capabilities of the «older generation¼ are changing noticeably, and the existing approach to the provision of social services, which largely took shape in the 1990s, is outdated. Our research question is: do the digital ecosystems (services) being developed by the Information and Analytical Center of St. Petersburg Government correspond to the needs of the elderly on the one hand, and the provisions enshrined in the Madrid Plan on the other? The study employed qualitative methods: an analysis of a pilot survey of users of the «Active Longevity¼ service and the opinions of participants in a focus group (age of informants 60-75 years) of elderly individuals conducted on 16.03.2024.

This paper employs a comparative analysis to investigate the state-led use of industrial heritage in major Chinese mega-events, delving into the three cases of the Guangzhou Asian Games, the Shanghai Expo, and the Beijing Winter Olympics. Examining the evolving practices led by Chinese governments reveals unique pathways for industrial heritage and showcases its diverse roles in economic development and societal transformation. The three cases illustrate the nuanced dynamics between market forces and state interventions, emphasising the importance of strategic planning and long-term considerations in mega-event-induced heritage practices. Mega-events serve as catalysts for urban regeneration, allowing governments to allocate substantial resources to conserve and repurpose industrial heritage. However, the current paper contends that the sustained benefits of industrial heritage hinge on thoughtful planning for long-term economic and social sustainability, emphasising the need to constrain a focus on short-term gains through land revenue. These reflections contribute to a nuanced understanding of the intricate interplay between heritage preservation, economic development, and sustainable urban planning in the context of China's mega-events.

Even though it has been established that a hyetograph's shape affects the results of hydrological simulations, common engineering practice does not always account for this fact. Instead, a single design storm is often considered sufficient for designing a urban drainage system. This study examines the impact that this design paradigm, combined with the uncertainty introduced by subjective choices made during the design process, has on the robustness of a designed system. To do so, we evaluated a set of individual designs created by engineering students using the same Chicago hyetograph as a design storm. We then created ensembles of hyetographs with the same precipitation volume and duration as the Chicago hyetograph and evaluated the designs' hydrological responses. The results showed that designs, which performed equally well for the initial design storm, triggered varying responses for the storms in the ensembles and, consequently, showed different levels of robustness, hinting at a need to adapt the current design approach.
